Именно симулятор. Это не тот рельсовый фан из Ребелион. Тут у тебя все органы управления транспортом, несколько степеней газа, выбор вооружения, наводка на цель, ориентирование в космическом пространстве, работа по целям. Здесь тебе нужно перераспределять энергию с движков, на щиты, с шитов на оружие и обратно, в зависимости от обстановки, что люто добавляет атмосферы и работает на геймплей. Так же звук, со звуком порядок, он буквально сошёл с киноленты, Лукасы это умеют. Очень атмосферно и аутентично. По сюжету здесь, кроме пересечения немного с 4 эпизодом и общей вселенной ничего особо нет, различные миссии, уничтожение, сопровождение и т.д., Но вот реализация геймплея каждую миссию превращает в нечто великое.

- 3 игры в одной. Тут есть и DOS-порт из 93, есть CD версия с чуток улучшенной графикой и совсем новая на движке X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter (Та самая special, её и рекомендую проходить)
- Действительно интересный симулятор космических сражений, где нужно ещё и думать, а не только стрелять
- Это прародитель всего, чего мы знаем из космошутанов. Ближайщий пра-правнук это система полетов в Starfield.
- Различные типы кораблей и иксы и уаи и а и б-крылья, выбрать есть из чего

- Без геймпада никак, серьезно, в это практически нереально играть на клавиатуре
- Высокий порог вхождения. Если нет желания разбираться, скорее всего Вы не станете в неё играть
- Отсутствие локализации. Только английский, нет ни русика, ни владика, только если нейронку прикрутите, а контента, в том числе лорного хватает

Игра мне понравилась, но даётся она тяжеловато. Человеку не фанатеющему по Звездным войнам или любителям просто заскочить на полчасика убить время я бы её не рекомендовал. Просто потратите деньги. Но если Вы фанатеете по Стар Ворс, либо любите космосимуляторы, то Вы по адресу, покупаем, не задумываясь [/b]

Aquí no vienes a hacer piruetas arcade con lucecitas bonitas; vienes a lidiar con cabina, instrumentos, combates en el vacío y misiones donde el error no es “oops”, es “reinicia y reflexiona”.
La propuesta mezcla Acción con Simuladores en estado puro: dogfights tensos, gestión de la nave y una curva de aprendizaje que hoy sería considerada “crimen de guerra” por cualquier tutorial moderno. La primera impresión es clarísima: esto es un clásico retro que no te pide permiso para ser exigente, y por eso mismo es tan fácil de amar… o de abandonar con orgullo herido.

Su mezcla de Acción y Simulador espacial sigue siendo atractiva, pero también es un recordatorio controversial de que antes los juegos no te cuidaban el ego.
Con 5 jugadores actuales, no esperes una comunidad bullendo ni conversación constante; esto se juega más como pieza de colección que como fenómeno. Si te gustan los simuladores espaciales clásicos, la dificultad sin anestesia y el sabor retro de los años 90, vale la pena como experiencia de un jugador y como cápsula del tiempo. Si buscas comodidad moderna, controles perfectos en mando y recompensas tipo “logros por respirar”, mejor pasa de largo… o prepárate para que este juego te humille con educación imperial.
Creio que foi a primeira versão 3D de jogos de naves de Guerra nas Estrelas no estilo simulador. Excepcional quando foi lançado. Realize centenas de missões pela Rebelião e acabe com o império. Várias missões quase impossíveis. Ataque. Defenda-se. Escolte. Capture. Centenas de horas de diversão.

[b]S[/b]adly, it has been neglected for a long, long time with no hope for improvement in the near future. Although much less appreciated Star Wars games have been, surprisingly, retouched, remastered and otherwise brought to digital circulation, giving a legal means to acquire them in the modern era. If Jedi Power Battles can get some attention, then there must be some hope for the X-Wing/TIE Fighter saga. As a ‘90s space sim it's more mechanically archaic and less approachable then some other, streamlined concepts, like action-adventure games from the sixth+ generation (Bounty Hunter), the formula alone is an alluring one, has small but passionate following and with some leadership changes at Disney and more liberal handing out of SW licences, there might be a window for a competent studio to tackle a modarately-budgeted, modern take on this design. On a level deeper than Squadron's, at least.
[b]O[/b]therwise, even a Nightdive Studios‘ remaster package alone would be a great gift, if the IP owners are interested in safer, bigger bets for a more casual audience (Galactic Racer), instead of trying the reignate the late 80s/90s space sim craze . Before that, since X-Wing SE most likely won't be updated outside of some tiny, critical hotfixes- tips for making it run on modern operating systems and hardware and fan patches are out there. So grab Jérémy Ansel's [i]xwa_ddraw_d3d11[/i], prepare PCGW tips and Steam guides, and hope for the best.

An absolute classic!
This an Awesome game.
Keyboard and mouse does not work at all, some functions work on Xbox controller but I can't figure out how to remap, and the music is stuttery. I'd love to give a more thorough review but I can't play any further into the game as it was sold to me.

It doesn't work on modern OS and is essentially unplayable, even if you do have a controller. It's essentially a non functional game being sold here. There are a source port/mod to fix the game, but I can't be bothered to deal with that. I appreciate the fact you can get the game/files legally at least but still...

The special edition is unplayable. It's bgm is problematic and when mission complete it will hang. Only the classic version is playable. If you just want to play the classic version it is worth buy it.

This is a throwback to when I was a kid in the 90's. The X Wing CD Collectors edition is some awesome nostalgia! You get 3 games for $10 and this is an amazing deal. Highly recommend!!!

Classic Game, Lots of fun, it's great with a joystick. It does take some messing around with files and patches and such to get it to run.

Along with Star Wars Rebel Assault and Command & Conquer Red Alert, it was this game that made me realize back in the mid 90s that the PC is the superior gaming platform. In the meantime since then, Rebel Assault has turned from a guilty pleasure to one of the worst games ever made and Red Alert is still the greatest RTS game, but got some serious competition by its own successors and the likes of Age of Empires 2. The X-Wing series on the other hand is still something very unique and after playing the original for the first time in nearly 30 years, i remembered within minutes why it made me waste week after week on my dad‘s old DOS- and Windows 3.1-powered 3/86 back in 1996.
X-Wing runs perfectly on modern systems without any compatibility issues or necessary bugfixing at all and it is perfectly playable with a common Xbox controller (maybe even better than with a classic joystick). The attention to detail, distinct classic Star Wars atmosphere and general amount of effort and refinement that were put into this thing are barely matched by any other Star Wars game of the last two decades and for 1993 standards X-Wing actually looks, sounds and plays basically flawless. The first time i booted it up again i had only planned to set up my Xbox controller, but within moments i got hooked again and played for over 2 hours straight.
Now you might scream „Nostalgic Star Wars fanboy alert!“, but believe me, even if you are not a hardcore Star Wars fan that was born long before 1990, you‘ll find that this game aged like fine wine.
Star Wars X-Wing is not only one of the best and most groundbreaking space combat simulations and a Top 10 greatest Star Wars game ever made: If it wasn‘t for Doom, this would be by far the most amazing game of the year 1993 and i dare say that it is maybe even one of the greatest PC games of all time in general.

Seems that DOS/CD Collection really sucks at using a controller of any age, rather xbox, switch, a 8bitdo and etc.... But the special edition just crashes a lot.
Its hard, but once you get to know all of the hotkeys its doable. Its definitely challenging which is a plus.

I loved these games 30 years ago. Hoped for another great retro experience...
Started the Special Edition: Music was a choppy mess and the game crashed 5-6 minutes into the training mission.
Tried the "Collectors Edition" (original graphics): Music was fine but controlling the game was impossible due to stick drift.
Sadly not worth the bother!

fast forward to now and...nope. Its busted. Joystick is mandatory for special edition, and classic is just dosbox but broken keyboard support.

Still great. Plays buttery smooth, at any rez, and still is a blast. Mission design is fantastic -- shift power the engines, and get those tie bombers, or you're gonna lose.
You'll need to mix it up a little, with the keyboard and the gamepad. There aren't really enough buttons. Not much of a problem, really -- think of it as a real X-Wing simulator, where not all the controls are on the stick itself.
There are hardware wrapper mods available for playing in 640x480 (or higher) resolutions, and.. yeah it looks good, like an update from 1993 to like... 2004? Still a pretty good improvement, especially with the higher rez textures in the remaster.
It's a hard game -- if you die during a mission, you'll either be rescued and get to try again, or be killed, or captured, and then your pilot career is over, then yeah -- you need to start again.
Yup, you read that right -- step aside, Dark Souls, its Ironman mode for everyone, all the time. You could copy your save file, if you want to cheat death (even though that's pretty sad) -- they hadn't made such a thing impossible, at the time.
Should you buy it? Yes, yes you should. Worth every penny, if you ever dreamed of flying a starfighter, and have even the slightest appreciation for the quality of older games' solid gameplay.

1990 konnten wir mit Wing Commander packende Weltraumgefechte führen und nach der Grafikdemo "Star Wars: Rebel Assault" konnten wir uns 1993 endlich hinter den Steuerknüppel eines X-Wing, Y-Wing oder A-Wings setzen. Dabei kam auch ein Hauch Simulation auf, indem man das Energiemanagement steuern konnte (das ging sogar 1984 auch bei Elite). Dank der Special Edition kann man das heute auch noch sehr gut spielen. Die Steuerung ist zwar gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber wenn man sich einmal drauf eingelassen hat, fluppt es auch ganz gut. Den Vollpreis würde ich vermutlich nicht bezahlen, aber im Sale ein heißer Kandidat.

This is a classic video game from the 90s. It is amazing and very nostalgic. I enjoyed plying this game then and now. I highly recommend.

I played this in the 90's, and playing it again all these years later is even better. Its so much fun, makes you feel like a starfighter for real.
Remember to save a backup of your character manually to avoid being captured by the empire and losing all of your points. Do it after every mission, and also verify game files every time too or the game might crash.

The original edition was first PC game I ever played, and the de facto reason I became a PC gamer in the first place. It introduced me to the joystick and Star Wars at the same time. It is just wild fun, dog-fighting against The Empire in various scenarios with a variety of mission objectives to keep things interesting.
This game is rudimentary by today's standards even with the efforts to update it, but modern games struggle to capture the feel that this one managed seemingly effortlessly. At times, X-Wing can be more exhilarating than Squadrons.
If you're even considering getting this game, then clearly you love nostalgia for nostalgia's sake, and I will not try to deter you from this game. So how does it actually play?
First of all, if you want an exhilarating and realistic x-wing simulator, just go straight to either Star Wars: Squadrons or my preference, Star Wars: Battlefront 2. Both of those games do an incomparably superior job simulating the feeling of an X-wing in the Star Wars universe. They are both insanely fun, and look incredible.
I played this game as a kid, and it was really difficult and slow then, but it was the coolest space sim game in existence. Now, it's still really difficult and slow, but is also really dated. That being said however, this is the game that popularized the Space Sim genre.
You know what you're getting! So don't bother buying this game unless you specifically love the charm of early Star Wars games, or want to learn the history of Space Sim design. If what you want is the best X-Wing experience, go with the more recent Battlefront 2 or Squadrons.
I wish they'd make it a little more obvious where the manual is. Otherwise, it still holds up.

An absolute classic sim. It has some flaws that weren't solved until Tie Fighter came out. I love this game but this version has game breaking glitches. Campaign 3 mission 2 cannot be finished due to a group of tie bombers that need to be destroyed not registering as destroyed. I hope I can find a work around but so far I have not found a fix for this glitch. Therefore I cannot recommend this game to anyone for now.
Requires a joystick for the better versions of this game. However, it doesn't work properly with my pro flight controller - can't get the fire button to work, so I can fly around but that is it.
This was the very first computer game I've ever had, originally for a Packard Bell computer. For those that aren't aware, Packard Bell became Hewlett Packard. THATS how old I am.
I just thought to look for this game after 30 years, never thinking that it would be on Steam.

Classic Star Wars game from the 90's that was recently patched for modern systems. Personally, I prefer TIE Fighter over this one, but it's still excellent.

왜인지 모르겠는데. cd-rom 버전으로 실행하였을 때 joystick인식이 안되서.. 별도의 dos-box로 실행하고 비교
1. 사운드
- 장점 : 영화에 나온 사운드를 bgm으로 채용하여 프랜차이즈에 대한 향수를 불러옴
- 단점 : 각종 경고음, 알림이 bgm에 묻히고, 팬들이 좋아할 것이다 싶은 bgm을 전투에도 덕지덕지 붙여놓아 되려 비행 간 몰입을 방해하는 느낌을 받음. 대표적으로 mission complete 시 나오는 rebel brockade runner.. 스타워즈를 대표하는 명작이지만, 소소한 성취에 대해 너무 과하다고 해야 할까.. 뜬금없는 나오는 느낌에, 플러스로 미션 시마다 과도하게 노출되는 느낌이 들어.. 오리지널 버전의 게임에 향수를 가진 사람 입장에서는 불호가 될 수 있음
2. 그래픽
- 장점 : 전투 시, 텍스처가 오리지널에 비해 많이 좋아짐.
- 단점 : 비행은 실사인데. 파일럿 등록 시 만화풍 드로이드..는 이질감이 느껴지고, 출격/귀환 시 격납고 장면 삭제는.. 상당히 아쉬움
3. 조작감
- 장점 : dos-box에 비해 프레임이 안정적인지, 적중률이 조금 더 잘 나오는 느낌
- TIE와 dog fight 뿐 아니라, 목표 보호와 같은 다양한 성격의 미션이 섞여 있기 때문에 전술을 설계하고, 하이 스코어를 획득하는 도전 등 flight simulation으로서 재미는 보장됨(원작 느낌을 보존)
4. 요약
- 텍스처와 프레임만 개선하였으면 더 좋았을 것 같은데. 영화 팬을 고려한 판단 - bgm 등- 이 오히려 사족이 되었다.
- 상기한 소소한 불만들이 게임성을 훼손한다고 보기는 어렵고, 텍스처 품질에 크게 개의치 않는 사람이면, 오리지널 버전(dos, floppy)의 플레이를 추천함
5. 비고
- 적군 AI에 비해, 아군 AI가 멍청한 측면이 있어서, 게임 자체가 난이도가 어려운 편이나, 스타워즈의 매카닉적인 부분을 좋아하는 팬이라면, 별로 장애가 되지 않을 듯
- 스페셜 에디션으로 tour of duty를 진행하지 않아, 정확한 평가는 어렵지만,
과거의 기억을 추려보면,
TIE들은 부대가 전멸하지 않는 이상 충원되지 않고, 심지어는 심각한 손상 시 모선으로 귀환한 후 가만히 있기도 하기 때문에(TIE BOMBER가 잦음) 이러한 AI의 특성들을 분석하면서 미션을 반복하면 충분히 클리어가 가능함 (특히 실드가 탑재된 건보트 등은 y-wing의 ion cannon으로 무력화 시키면 충원도 안되고 공격도 못하는 바보 부대가 됨)
- 전투 팁으로, 레이저/실드 출력 조절(f11/f12) 외 레이저 에너지를 실드로, 실드 에너지를 레이저로 전환 가능하고(버튼 ;과 '으로 따로 있음), 같은 부대에 있는 윙맨에게 명령을 내려서 멍청한 ai를 일부 보정할 수 있다.(shift-a 목표 공격 등)
- 그리고 tour of duty 중 파일럿이 사망하거나 포로로 잡히기도 하는데. register에서 살릴 수도 있고, 파일럿 파일(*.plt)를 백업해도 됨

I like STAR WARS Spacecraft. I like that the game can still be played.
Classic game, one of the best of its genre. Very much outdated, but the gameplay is still solid. It was tremendously tough to get into it (for a kid), but once past the lurning curve, it is such a joyful experience! But to enjoy this game now, players definitely need nostalgia.
On balance, my favorite all time space flight/fighter sim. And it's in the Star Wars universe. Challenging, rewarding game play. All 4 star fighters are a joy to pilot. I've been coming back to fully deck out that uniform again and again for decades now. It is just that fun.

This is an evergreen from my early experiences with computer games. It is absolutely fantastic to have it available and playable on modern hardware to revisit these beloved childhood memories! ... and to finally tackle some challenges, I simply was not up to so many years ago.
You might need to search and apply some simple fixes to the game for it to run properly, but they are readily available.
Enough said - Go dust of the old joystick and charge your lasers to maximum! > ---- |o|

Playing on a MacBook Pro M2. Took a bit to get everything set up (screen settings, Xbox controller mappings, etc...), but once that was dialed in it worked great. This took me straight back to my teenage years. Love this game!
One of the best space sim games of its time.
Overall, it’s a lot of fun to play, but some missions suffer from frustrating design. If you don’t already know where the enemy will appear or which target to prioritize, there’s a 99% chance that they’ll destroy a shuttle 10 km away, causing you to fail the mission. Thankfully, there aren’t too many missions like this.
I played on the Steam Deck, and the game ran perfectly. However, setting up the controls was a bit of a challenge since I wasn’t satisfied with the community-provided layouts and had to customize my own.

Fun game, nostalgia is strong with this one. Save the PTL file and replace it when you get captured or die. It makes it so much better. Continue to save the PTL file as you progress. Trust me.

Landing the plane was a better XPerience than just now in 2023, when it landed and I made the mistake, and got off the plane.

It's an old game, with ancient graphics, but if you're more about game-play than looks, you will still enjoy this game. Works great with my thrustmaster joystick.

Flight simulator style Star Wars game. One of the first PC games for Star Wars and it really quenched a thirst for gamers at the time. High learning curve but remains entertaining at each stage of development.

So you can play the windows version that will crash inmediatelly unless you have a joystick or you can play the old MS DOS emulated version wich has 2 seconds delay on all your arrow inputs so playing with keyboard is off limits and using mouse with extremelly low sensitivity makes everything really frustrating.
