Breve platform stile Game Boy (con i colori del Game Boy) in cui siamo un calamaretto che parte per un’avventura e come unico attacco può sparare dell’inchiostro verso il basso.
Ci sono diversi NPC con cui parlare (o abbracciare) nei villaggi, 3-4 livelli e altrettanti boss.
Una run non dura più di 20-30 minuti prendendosela comoda, e la rigiocabilità è data più che altro dagli obiettivi tipo “finisci senza farti mai colpire”, fai questo, non fare quello, e alcune speedrun che culminano con “finisci in meno di 10 minuti” – non facilissimo, servono parecchi tentativi e un po’ di fortuna.
Un gioco carino, semplice, con una musica orecchiabile e dialoghi simpatici (solo in inglese, ma non vi perdete chissà che) che vale i pochi centesimi che costa durante i saldi.

The retro-revival scene is one of my favourite aspects of modern indie gaming, and in particular I adore when developers decide to dip into the nostalgia old farts like I have for the Game Boy.
Squidlit's wonderful black-and-green display feels like it's right out of my childhood, and the simple story in which a squid (obviously) sets out to save their hometown is equally old-fashioned in all the good ways. Gameplay is pure platformer joy, just running and jumping and occasionally trying to bop something on the bonce, and it's all over and done with decidedly quickly. Nevertheless, if you want a taste of Game Boy goofiness without the hassle of pulling out that giant grey brick (not to mention finding enough batteries to bring it back to life) then Squidlit has you covered.
Fun little game :) Very short, but then it is very cheap. Nice for a little retro-themed nostalgia.

Honestly a really fun little platformer, it is short but it's a joy to play though!
Just a really cute little platformer. The whole inking gimmick is neat and it leads to some cool puzzle bits later on and an actual pretty sick boss battle (both in the same library level actually) and there is the obvious adorable charm present throughout the entire thing. There's not much more I could say about it but I don't think the game set out to be much more than a solid gameboy era platformer and what it does it does well especially at the price. Also I played this to break up my Dusk playthrough after getting too scared by the wendigos and it helped :)
This is a short but charming platforming adventure game that looks and feels like a forgotten gem from the Game Boy era. There isn't much challenge here, but given the cost, this is a more than pleasant way to spend an hour or two. If some easy-to-pick-up retro fun sounds appealing to you, definitely check out Squidlit!

BUT I will rate this as negative. Because it has a few flaws that are way too big.
-> No saving (what were the devs thinking)
-> You cant change the resolution, how to play this game in my monitor ?? It's nauseating, needs windowed mode.
-> The camera shouldn't follow pixel for pixel the hero. Even more nauseating combined with the previous flaw.
If these 3 things were fixed, I would change my review.

Fun game done up as an old game boy game.
Its a pretty simple platforming game, as most gameboy games were back in those days. You have the ability to jump, ink, and squiggle. Ink is your primary attack which can only be done while jumping and you'll attack downwards at the enemies. Squiggle is just dancing and you can make the other squids dance with you if you go near them.
There's a few bosses, including one that really made me think. The only thing I disliked was the speed run achievment. I'm an achievement hunter but I absolutely HATE speed run achievements. I have ADHD and can easily get distracted away from the games i play and it completely ruins a speed run if I get distracted even for a second. This ones speed run is particularly tight.
bought this when it was on sale and dear god it is an actual gameboy game (in the sense that i cant even get past the final boss)

Extremely cheap for what it's worth. The game is very cute and funny, the gameplay is simple but that's by design. If you want something more complex then go buy a more complex game that will probably cost way more than this one.

While the graphics and the animations are really nice, the gameplay just isn't that fun. Also, the game never gave any good challenge and didn't motivate to replay. While I really liked the fight against the book, I can't recommend this game for a single boss fight.

A friend gifted me this game, and I knew I was gonna like it, but I had no idea how much! Squidlit is super cute, it has smooth controls, and the boss fights are pretty awesome. Although I was born in the 90s, I didn't get to experience many titles of the era, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I thought the bosses were very creative and fun.
I'm grateful I got to enjoy it, but very sad (and slightly disappointed) that getting the 100% on achievements is so memory-heavy.

I'll be honest with you, this game is bad, and it stems from the developer's seemingly ass backwards philosophy of "Gameboy games were good because they were chiptune and monochrome" rather than realizing that the games were good in spite these limitations. The result? A game that ironically reminds me nothing of classic GB games. Ugly graphics with characters whose spites are nigh indiscernible. Terrible ear-piercing music. And boring gameplay. It's just a mediocre platformer with nothing interesting going on. You can only attack after you jump and the attack is a downward projectile. You might think this would be used to craft some interesting gameplay scenarios, but no, it's just arbitrary and annoying. The bosses, it's impossible to tell if you're even hitting them until they crumple after like 5 billion hits, why is there 0 feedback when you are damaging them? Oh and the worst part is the game is capped at 30fps. Yeah for all the developer's pride in replicating a gameboy game, he seems to have forgotten the Gameboy had a 60hz screen.
The best thing is that the game is 30-50 minutes long. Trust me it runs out of ideas by minute 10.

"Squidlit" is a very short and very easy trip to GameBoy-nostalgia-lane with adorably cute and silly overtones.
The Ink-Spray movement/attack lets the camera wiggle around, which can be offputting at times, but I liked the half an hour spent on this little title. Gotta love the walking animation of your invertebrate!
Heck, if you want a challenge, there are achievements for it (speedrunning and never taking a health drop).
And there is a sequel that is prbably worth looking up.
It's very short but don't let the length deter you from playing this adorable platformer.
Very short, easy and cute platformer. Will probably run on even the most potato laptops out there. Good sense of humor, simple aesthetics that do their job, straightforward gameplay with no noticeable bugs or issues etc. Reasonably priced everything considered, worth it if this is your kind of deal. I see some bemoaning the lack of save system, but honestly, I think even a platforming newbie could probably complete this in one sitting - in fact if you have kids or family members or even friends that are interested in games but are put off by their difficulty, this is an ideal place to start for platformers. There's also a special achievement for beating it in under 13 mins if that's your deal.

This game uses the classic Gameboy aesthetic as in being in the green and black color pallet. While on the outside it can look good while playing it can be difficult to identify enemies and I've had multiple times where the enemies blended into the background and caused me to take damage.
[h1]Controls[/h1]
The controls are very simple being just left and right for movement, the A/B button for jumping, and up/down for interaction. It's not hard to remember what each button does. An issue that came up multiple times while playing is the character moving without input so either it was made way too sensitive or your character is intentionally moved on occasion.
[h1]Hitboxes[/h1]
While playing I noticed there were some weird hitboxes, there were multiple times when I got hit when there was visually plenty of space between me and the enemy. At the same time the attack ink that should have hit missed causing annoyance and often getting hit.
[h1]No Saves[/h1]
There is no save system and while it is a short game you do need to commit to playing the game as a whole. This is intentional however it can be annoying, especially if you want to have a break without having to keep the game open the whole time.
Because of the issues, I experienced I can't recommend this game due to some of the jank however at its low price it's not the worse experience, it's just not for me.

A delightful little game that delivers its lighthearted charm in under an hour.
Setting, dialogue and boss encounters all deliver these tiny spoonfuls of happiness despite their ultimate simplicity. There's an almost childlike glee to the whole experience, which I think succeeds exactly because it doesn't overstay its welcome.
Many of the achievements are simple, but really creative or quirky. They definitely offer a touch of replayability, and there's even something for casual speedrunners in there.
And if you're feeling nostalgic for some of those simpler, childlike times of the Game Boy era, I really can't recommend this enough.

No, what this is is a super cute retro title that is doing it's very best to emulate a true original game boy experience. It's pretty simple and pretty easy, thought if if you want all the achievements, I don't think that's going to be easy. My play through was only about 45 min, but for two bucks, I say it's worth it.

Okay so... It's actually a bit of fun. Some of the dialogue is actually funny. You can blitz through the game in less than 30 minutes (there's no save system so just go for it). The achievements are fun to go for in a second run. Get this game on sale for cheaper than a McDonald's coffee, or regular price for cheaper than a Starbucks coffee. Why am I comparing this to coffee prices...

Juego muy cuco al estilo de los de la antigua Gameboy, tanto a nivel visual como de sonido y música. Tiene una duración de alrededor de 1 hora, así que si eres como yo de los que de vez en cuando les apetece algo ligero, te vendrá que ni pintado. Jugablemente bastante decente. En los textos me costó entender algunas cosas porque a veces utiliza un inglés un tanto peculiar, pero nada exagerado.

From the grating and repetitive chip tune, to the eye searing and annoying visuals; This game tries to be anything but good.
Admittedly, there is an initial charm to the (inaccurate) retro style, but it wears off quickly.
The controls feel very retro and would be right at home on an old DMG in the worst way, holding this game back from being playable.
An ounce of modernity would have gone a long way in making this a better title, but it's just an echo of past mistakes.
The small amount of dropped frames I get on my PC, that can handle most games on high or ultra settings (struggling slightly on only the newest titles,) makes me wonder where they're going.
I can't recommend buying this, 20 minute itch.io proof of concept, for any amount of money. Even if it's on sale, don't waste your dollars!
Edit: After getting all the achievements I can officially say I hate this game.
The amount of hours I have on this game is from getting up and walking away, leaving it on all night and while I was at work.

Absolutely loved this game, from the presentation, music, and especially the enemy designs. Yes it brings back a lot of nostalgia when I was a child playing with my Gameboy, but it's more than that in this case. There is a modern sensibility to the comedy that is so on point with my own and the fast paced/short length of the game finds its identity here. I totally recommend playing this game due to everything I just listed and the fun replay value, and I can't wait to play Super Squidlit!

Extremely short, but it's enjoyable and super cheap.
Cute, plays well, faithfully recreates the Gameboy experience sans blurry LCD with no backlight (thankfully), but criminally short, while some achievements refuse to trigger despite meeting every requirement. Normally I wouldn't care, but since most of the intended replay value is in the goals set by the achievements themselves, it's hard not to be let down.
Won't blow anyone away regardless, but for two dollars, it's a nice enough, half hour diversion from life's various woes.

Just an absolutely wonderful throwback to what I loved about GameBoy platformers. It was fun, the writing was great, and absolutely scratched the itch I was looking for. Took a little over half an hour to complete so it was well worth the 2$. Give it a go.

A charming and short 2D platforming game that seeks to emulate the Game Boy platformers of the 80s and 90s. It manages to not only look and sound like a Game Boy game but also feel exactly like one. From the 30 minute story without saves to the simplistic gameplay consisting of nothing but a jump button (which you press twice in order to squirt ink on your enemies) the game oozes passion and charm.
I highly recommend it to anyone even remotely curious in what the game has to offer!

Squidlit is a short platformer featuring pixel graphics, music, and sounds, reminiscent of the original Game Boy. I liked the controls, as well as the mechanic of using ink to defeat (or just stun, in some cases) enemies. The dialog is silly (in a fun way), and the characters are pretty cute. I enjoyed this short game, and I hope a sequel is created one day.
Keep in mind: There is NO save feature in this game - you have to beat it all in one go, but it will take you less than an hour to do so.
So, if you like platformers and retro games, then I'm pretty sure you will enjoy Squidlit. Recommended, but ONLY on sale with a 50%+ discount due to how short it is.

A short but sweet retro romp. All the fun of an original GameBoy platformer, with less eye strain. Highly recommended if you have nostalgia for 8 bit monochromatic gaming, are a fan of squids, or just think the game looks cute. I thought it was well worth the cheap asking price.

It's not gonna blow your socks off, and it's incredibly short, but the 50 cents I paid for this game (and the 2 dollars you'll get it for when it's not on sale) is totally worth it

I have no real negatives with this game: runs great, looks and sounds good, everything is adorable, and is a great game overall.
Short, but fun platformer. As a 90s kid, I love Game Boy games, but a huge flaw WAS the green screen on the original. We were super happy for the monochrome release, and of course later, the color varieties.
I'm not entirely convinced it is THAT great of a game, and even more so one that makes any sense on a PC. If I had this game on handheld or my Nintendo Switch, that would feel more...right. Completely subjective opinion, of course. Squidlit is cheap though. Even more so when it's on sale, but given the game's run-time of about 40 minutes, I'd say it is fair.
If I could rate it neutral I would, but since I can't and I don't feel that keen on it - I'll have to suggest skipping on this one. That said, if you catch it for under $1, then give it a shot...maybe.
An alright yet small platformer, the game isn't too long nor is it overly difficult but doing the game hitless makes for an exciting challenge, however the speedrun achievements are terribly annoying, im fairly certain it becomes impossible to get sub 10 after something like 7 hits due to the time they'd waste, its overly strict and tight for the time so if you're going for 100% on this i'd say look elsewhere, but for a casual experience its a good bitesize game with some cutesy and funny humour.
Squidlit is short and sweet. It does everything it can to take you back to the Gameboy era from it's 1 button controls, the graphics, the sound, to even the simple touches it includes like the ability to change the contrast as if you're playing your Gameboy in the car and the screen is affected by glare. It's one of the most charming games I've played and although it justifies it's price (especially if you can get it for under a dollar on sale) I wish there was more of it.
My first playthrough of the game took me just under half an hour and I very much enjoyed it. The soundtrack is absolutely amazing, and the nostalgia hit hard with every beep and boop. The game's controls felt great both with a controller, and with my keyboard (I played through the game with both 2 times each). The simplicity keeps the game simple, yet challenging at times and there was plenty of variety in enemy types, and gameplay that I never got bored, even during my fourth playthrough. The game has so many little secrets and touches that every time I played through it I found something new, and the game is just fun to speedrun in general due to it's short length and fun level design. Every area you go to has it's own personality and all the sprites look great. The location variety is great and despite the levels being 2D the castle really manages to feel like you're exploring a castle as the levels have height and depth to them, it's great. The writing is the game is good, there's lots of adorable little interactions and secrets you can discover while playing the game and your character's sprite animations are adorable. The game just oozes charm.
1 problem I did have with the game is that due to the nature of the graphics and the fact that you're constantly jumping around, you can experience a little eye strain. It only really happened to me in areas with a lot of horizontal lines in the art like the castle and when I was jumping around a lot but it was definitely there. If you have sensitive eyes, I'd definitely be weary of this. I also just wish there was more of it. For 2 dollars, it's an easy recommendation still as what is here is fantastic but having even just 1 or 2 more areas would've really beefed up the whole package. There is a sequel in the works based on the Gameboy Color that released for the Switch that looks fantastic and although the developers posted about it on Steam, it's not on here yet which is a shame. Either way, it's a fantastic game that I highly recommend to those who grew up in this era of games or want to experience that era for the first time.
