Absolute classic. (I recommend using Roberta/Luxtorpeda)
So overall i would defintiley recommend. I remember playing these or some of them as a kid. I would recommend saving often as you can get stuck later with no recourse other than reloading saves. It can be quite jarring if not used to it. I feel like some of the puzzles in the space quest series can be way over the top though.
In tems of games the best ones are I , III, and V.
I fell VI is pretty bad and i would skip it honestly plus it runs really slow and crashed all the time. II and IV are ok but over all probably III is my favorite. II I feel like your on a planet too long and IV didnt like bouncing all over the time lines. Its definitely great overall and would recommend it
The Space Quest 1 VGA version IS included in this anthology. After hitting Play, you'll need to select the Legacy version. You can play the EGA (older) version by selecting the first option.
These games are classics SCI-FI Comedy. If you liked Galaxy Quest, these are the same genre.
Absolutely recommended if you have never played them (or if you have). SQ1VGA and SQ5 were a huge part of my childhood and they hold up today.
However, this collection is not without flaws, it is trying to emulate really old games after all, and these are problems you will find on all versions of the games. You will probably need the NeRisingSun patches to fix some errors and timing issues, though it may be hard to find (check the community discussions, particularly the thread I started). And for those complaining SQ1VGA is not here, that is incorrect. You just have to do a little file editing to get it to show up on the launcher. Everything will work perfectly fine with the above fixes, so if you don't mind doing a little work after installing then absolutely buy this.

Very enjoyable adventure game even today. Legacy one has SQ1 VGA edition. ScummVM makes it even better. 2 and 3 have free fan made remakes so don't have to play with text parser.

Scifi adventure game. You are a janitor aboard the Arcada, which is delivering a valuable planet-igniting device to a system that needs a new star. Unfortunately, the ship has been boarded by hostiles and you, the apparent lone survivor, must save the day. And then do it five more times.
Space Quest Collection is a series of six games: Space Quest 1 through Space Quest 6. Each one has a relatively self-contained story; you don't have to complete, play or even know about the others to play any given one. Spread across ten years, the collection represents advances in storytelling and production quality.
Space Quest 1 is low-tech, with 7-bit music and graphics to match. By the time you get to Space Quest 6, you're at fairly detailed graphics, smooth motion and voice acting. The leap is tremendous, but that doesn't mean there isn't worthwhile content in SQ1. The games have the quirky humor Sierra is (was?) famous for, and it's always satisfying to work through the puzzles, obstacles and challenges to complete one.
Be advised that these are DosBox games, which means they were produced before Microsoft Windows was even a thing. But I didn't run into any performance or glitch issues with them on either of two grades of machine, so they should be safe for any machine one can find today to run them on.
My nostalgia may be waxing here. SQ1 was hot stuff when it came out in 1986; the average gamer born after that might not see the appeal. But I got the collection through Humble Bundle, which, considering how many hours of story-driven game the whole collection represents, made it a helluva value.

One of the all time great text based/point and click series from a bygone era of gaming. Gary Owen’s voiceover in parts IV and VI are definitely the highlights of the series.
The absolute pinnacle of classic point and click along with King's Quest these games put SIERRA ON-LINE ON the map back in the day! I would say it only gets better with 3 being the watermark, wasn't as big of a fan of 4 as the puzzles and story felt kinda lacking but 5, oh man 5 goes super hard lol, back when you could miss things and never know you needed them and it was way to easy to die, trial and error baby! But anyway search everything and try different wording and hey you got it easy, playing back in the day it was more expensive than PHONESEX LINES to call the tip hotline LMBO!!!!!l lol lol anything can just be googled nowadays!
Classic. Especially IV, then III, with the latter containing one of the best video game soundtracks ever which was composed by the drummer of Supertramp.

It's Space Quest, man. One of the first computer games I ever played as a kid, all packed into this nice collection for next to nothing. The comedic writing still holds up even decades (uggh, that hurt to type) later. Some of the jokes got even funnier with age.

I guess what I love most is that Space Quest doesn’t take itself seriously. And in a world that often takes everything far too seriously, that’s worth a lot.

This collection is complete trash. Every game crashes constantly and I've spent all my playtime in these Sierra Classic collections just trying to get them running. I purchased the Police Quest Collection, The Space Quest Collection, and Leisure Suit Larry 1,2,3, and 5 in a sale and didn't get around to trying them for around 2 months. They all have the same issues and are unplayable. STEAM has denied my refund request because I purchased them too long ago... 8 min play time, denied, 20 minutes playtime, denied, 0.1 hours on record... denied.
This is terrible customer service and makes me extremely unlikely to EVER purchase any classic game collections on STEAM again. I have much better and easier options for playing every game in them. Don't waste your time and money on any of the classic Sierra games here on STEAM.

This series was part of my childhood so it holds an extra special place in my heart. New games can have pretty graphics and deep game play but games like these are a reminder of a simpler time when all you needed was to use your brain, free time and trial and error for entertainment.

Space quest 1 does not give you the right droid to continue. Space quest 5 does not sent WD40 into the cave so you can kill her. This also does not let you continue.

These are very charming old games. I humbly implore you, if you have a hard time enjoying more primitive graphics for the first 3, try to have a different perspective. As opposed to highly detailed, beautiful hand painted backgrounds, and music and voice acting, the originals from the mid-80's are much more subtle and mystical.
The imaginative 8-bit pixel art, with vibrant color schemes, fills in a different space in your mind. It can take you far beyond the majestic paintings in it's simplicity, the graphics of these earlier games, along with the minimal sound design, create a more dreamlike, phantasmagoric experience, that can't be replicated by higher detailed sprites.
This is a great collection, all of these games provide truly wonderful journeys across lively slum cities, giant forboding jungles, breath-taking spaceships, and even time travel. I cannot recommend this enough.

Terrible. 1-3 are an absolute waste of time. 4 was a decent idea, but largely just full of Boomer nerd programmer humor. 5 has music that wants you to shove a screwdriver through your ear and out the other. Just watch the playthroughs on 2x speed and you're good. They're short games...unless you want to try and figure out the most frustrating mess of typing and even knowing what's on the screen. 6 I have yet to watch the playthrough...but I doubt I will bother updating this considering these games are just bad.
Basically it boils down to being an okay game for age say like 15 year old boys. But that is considering they could go back 40 years to make the humor even kind of relevant. Oh and then you would have to give the kid shock therapy to get him to forget that graphics have infinitely improved. There are just way better story driven games like this out there now.

Fun, but very difficult. No command tips, had to use a guide for lots of parts, but still super fun. If I had infinite time I would play without the guide... what a trip!

They should default the DOSBox settings to use machine=tandy to get the 3 tone and 1 noise sound system that the Tandy line of computers supported. Why listen to a single tone IBM PC when Space Quest 1 and 2 supported more?

Fun, retro game
I played the first Space Quest when it came out when I was 9 years old. Adventure games like these are no longer made, but the 80s and 90s were the golden years of adventure gaming. Exploring, learning to use collected items for ingenious, devious, and sometimes downright silly outcomes was part of the joy. Part of the fun of these games was finding all the ridiculous ways you could die in a sci fi setting and seeing what the hilarious developers had to say about your failures. If you're into comedy and retro gaming, I can't recommend Space Quest enough. I wish the Two Guys from Andromeda would make a resurgence today!
You have to tinker with this collection to make some of the games work, but Space Quest is one of the most consistently solid Sierra franchises out there, with the exception of 2 being unbearably annoying and awful. 3-5 are probably the single best run of Sierra games, with 4 probably being my favorite of the three. It's actually charming and fun when it's not drowning in the unfair parts of Sierra classics.

I played these games as they came out decades ago. And I have to say, revisiting they still hold up as puzzle oriented adventure games. I definitely recommend these to any retro gamer and modern gamer alike.

Giochi divertenti ed enigmi, tutto sommato, mai illogici; Va considerato anche il piglio comico che, per certi versi, ricorda la Pallottola Spuntata. (anche se alcune battute e riferimenti si perdono proprio perché vengono citati personaggi Americani anni '80 o '90 magari sconosciuti ai più).
Ho trovato molto gradevole il fatto che i giochi riprendano, più o meno, da dove quello precedente era terminato, creando così una sorta di continuum narrativo.
Come tipico per le avventure Sierra, sarà possibile morire veramente spesso, in modi assurdi e anche violenti: sparati, schiacciati, divorati, spappolati, sventrati, rovesciati come un calzino sono solo alcune delle possibili morti del povero Roger.
Una sezione particolarmente difficile è verso la fine del Secondo capitolo dove sarà molto complicato SALIRE UNA SCALA; bisognerà alternare SU e DESTRA per non farlo cadere e morire... ma fa sicuramente parte del fascino di questi giochi!
Per SQ1 sarà possibile scegliere la versione EGA (con parser testuale) o VGA (con icone tematiche).
SQ2 e SQ3 saranno solo EGA; invece SQ4, SQ5 e SQ6 saranno solo VGA.
Durante molte sezioni di questa compilation, nonostante non ricordassi con precisione chirurgica tutto quanto, ho avuto la sensazione molto forte e molto piacevole di essere tornato a casa, di rivedere un vecchio amico...
Ho un aneddoto che fa parte della mia vita sin dal 1991, e dato che riguarda direttamente Space Quest 4 decido di scriverlo qua sotto, rubando qualche minuto a chi mai si troverà a leggere questa recensione:
In quel periodo i soldi scarseggiavano e, al contrario di oggi, il 99% di quel che giocavo era piratato; ecco arrivare la famigerata Copy Protection della Sierra! Comunque la carenza di soldi non vuole essere una scusa, solo la mia motivazione.
Per chi non sapesse, la copy protection Sierra funzionava in modo molto semplice : nelle prime battute del gioco, veniva chiesto al giocatore un "qualcosa", che poteva essere un codice alfanumerico, un nome, una parola e queste info si trovavano solo nel maledetto manuale che, ovviamente, un pirata non aveva.
Ad esempio in SQ5 le coordinate per spostare la navicella si trovano solo sul manuale.
Ultima informazione : all'epoca i giocatori che volessero ricevere aiuti per andare avanti con un gioco o consigli su come battere un particolare nemico scrivevano delle vere e proprie lettere alle riviste specializzate, come The Games Machine o Zzap!, le quali pubblicavano la lettera con tanto di nome, cognome ed indirizzo.
Io che ero bloccato alla copy protection di SQ4 mi sono battuto a tappeto svariate riviste per trovare qualche sfortunello, anch'esso alla ricerca di info per il medesimo gioco, e alla fine trovai un ragazzo dei dintorni di Ancona..
Mi recai in un centro specializzato in, beh, telefonate, pieno di cabine ed elenchi telefonici di tutta Italia. Ora il nome del ragazzo non compariva, ovviamente, per cui mi scrissi tutti i cognomi corrispondenti per quella città e, tornato a casa, cominciai a chiamare a casaccio questi numeri, spacciandomi per un suo amico; per fortuna i numeri da provare erano solo una dozzina !
Insomma alla fine trovai la nonna che mi diede il numero giusto ! Non si concluse bene perché il tizio, con giusta ragione, si rifiutò di aiutarmi ... ricorderò per sempre il disagio di quel povero ragazzo mentre parlava con uno sconosciuto che gli aveva dato la caccia !! Che ricordi

so much fun to play!! was super on the fence about buying this game, but it was worth it ! the 1986 graphics are a little,,, crunchy,, but watching the graphic grow with the game was so nice.

These games are fantastic. Funny writing, great art, creative settings and chalk full of sci-fi references. Odds are if you're reading this, you already know about Space Quest. Again, these games are fantastic for old text prompter/point & click adventures.
***They do not run well. You will find yourself needing to download a custom version of DosBox, mess with quite a few settings, I think I even had to get a separate emulator set up for 4-6 but I could be wrong. If you're going to package these games like abandonware, you should price them as such.***

Honest review: i have no clue if its fun or not. I missed the series when i grew up. As an adult i wanted to have this in my library for the sake of it. Test started Space Quest 5. Yeah...nah. Got no time for this.

First off, I never played the originals and I understand these older games bring back fond memories of days gone by for many people so my review is from someone who's only played these as they are now.
This game hasn't aged well at all. The graphics for the first 4(?) are frankly atrocious. Yes I appreciate they are very old games now but I bet they were poor even back in the day. The 5th (?) is acceptable (all the screenshots that look good on the store page are from this one).
The game seems a mix of walking aimlessly around blocky pixelated 2D platforms and trying to solve ridiculously hard puzzles that defy logic.
The setting for the games is unique and interesting and it badly needs remaking for the 21st Century to make the most of it. If you played the originals then you'll probably love reliving your youth but if you've never played them, I think there's better out there.

this game is a trip down memory lane. such a classic from a company that died too soon. I wish there were more games in the series. basically youre a goofy janitor that gets into all kinds of issues and ends up saving the universe just because it was the right thing to do OR by accident. loved it as a kid and love it still.
The Space Quest series is a bit before my time but I did play a bit of the last one at the time. This collection works pretty well straight out the box, it opens a launcher window with all games in the series and then you can choose which one to play. All of them run on DOSBox, pretty standard stuff, don't forget to edit the .conf file to remove fullscreen and add a CRT shader.
But the best thing for me though, as an history buff, is how this works like a time capsule. It's so awesome to see how games evolved with each game, great stuff!
Really dissapointed. 3rd screenshot is from the VGA version of SQ1 and it's not included. What the heck?
Edit: Well... It seems I was wrong. SQ1 VGA is included in the Legacy version when you launch the game. I trully thought Legacy meant "old versions"

These are classic Point and Click adventure games that are a lot of fun to play. Plenty of humor and challenging puzzles. If you enjoy these kind of games, this is definitely worth the money.

I have always played Quest for Glory, in Sierra's famous Quest series. Space Quest was my first and it is great in many ways. To be honest, the linear game play compared to QFG makes the game easier as well as enjoyable. I think I am old enough not to spend hours on riddles and just enjoy the story line. I think QFG is one of the best games ever so no other Quest series can change my mind. However I strongly recommend if you like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The story is funny, the game is satisfactory even in 2022. Save often and save on different files, then you are good to go.
So difficult to get these games to run properly. Play these elsewhere.
Do yourself a favour and run the games using Scumm rather than dosbox - sorts out the timer issues.

This is a great collection of the series. The only shortcoming I found here is the lack of the [b]'Popular Janitronics'[/b] magazine, which is required to solve the beacon puzzle and was integrated as a copy protection for [b]Space Quest 6[/b]. This is quite annoying for people like me who don't want to use walkthroughs.

This pack does contain both the old ega text based version of sq1 and the newer vga point and click version of sq1 but it has been so badly packaged that this is not obvious when installing and launching the game.
When installing, you should be offered the option to choose between standard and legacy installs.
If you choose standard, the launcher will only let you launch the old ega text based version of sq1.
If you choose legacy the launcher will only let you launch the newer vga point and click version of sq1.
I found that the legacy version of the install uses a badly configured implementation of dosbox which causes problems. eg: doesn't mount a suitable drive for saving your game, sets an incompatible screen resolution etc..
I installed the standard version and then edited the launcher's ini file to add an extra button that launches the newer vga version of sq1. I had to create an extra .conf file and move and rename some other files but now it works well and I have both the old and new versions of sq1 in my launcher.

The space quest series is one of my favorite of all time! Very nostalgic to play this again, and I love how easy it was to get all these games running on a modern computer.
This is old school but a great. If you use the walk through to cheat its still great fun and worth playing
Honestly, this game is pretty fun, if frustrating at times. I went in blind but about halfway through I relented and looked up a walk-through. Its fun and super funny, but you have to be careful to get ALL the items or you WILL be soft-locked later in the game and sometimes it is not clear that you are actually able to pick up a specific item. Also if you can't type fast good luck for the first couple games because some portions are timed. All in all its a good game, but just know it is kinda hard when doing a blind run.

Played and completed all 6 games. All ran with a few crashes here and there, but was otherwise playable.
I would only recommend to people that like 80/90's retro games or to people like me who played these games in the childhood who want to revisit them again as an adult.
Brought back good memories for me, but would recommend saving very often due to crashes and the risk of dieing. Also I would recommend using a walkthrough as the standard of gaming back then was completely different than today and would be frustrating to play without a walkthrough IMO.
