I’m honestly torn on how to rate this. I'm going to recommend it purely because it's a classic and it's not terrible. If you're willing to put up with it, it's fine.

Sonic 1 was obviously important when it came out over 30 years ago, but it has aged pretty poorly and it has some REALLY low lows (damn you, Labyrinth Zone).

With the right mods/version, this game can be fun, but in its vanilla state, it kinda blows. Since this version is both vanilla and delisted from Steam now, I guess it forces all of us to find a better version. If you really want to play this, go for the Christian Whitehead version, or find a ROM hack that includes the spindash at least.

I'd really only recommend it for the sake of experiencing the original Sonic, but that’s about it. There are much better versions out there.

Sega a principios de los años 90 quería una mascota asociada a su empresa, tal como Nintendo hacía con Super Mario Bros. Fue todo un éxito, al menos en su consola [u][url=https://steamcommunity.com/id/gequi_/recommended/34270/]Genesis / Mega Drive[/url][/u] y uno de los primeros títulos que disfruté en mi [u][url=https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3300481056]Segera infancia[/url][/u]

Las mecánicas son sencillas y parecidas a las de Super Mario Bros, un juego de plataformas 2D donde recopilar objetos (anillos en vez de monedas) y saltar sobre los enemigos para vencerlos. También hay algunos puzzles, trampas, y niveles especiales donde buscar esmeraldas mágicas (solo al final de ciertos mapas y habiendo conseguido una cantidad concreta de anillos)

La principal característica del erizo es la tremenda velocidad que consigue al correr o rodar. La optimización es excelente, aguantando sin despeinarse la tasa de fotogramas. Lamentablemente cada mapa obliga a completarlo en menos de 10 minutos. Normalmente esto no suele ser un problema, pero desincentiva la exploración, algo que alargaría la breve duración del juego (unos 90 minutos sin morir demasiado), pues suelen presentarse al menos 2 o 3 rutas por donde avanzar.

Gráficos excelentes, enemigos y mapas bastante originales.

Audio decente, [u][url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVoNyufMUpo&list=PLB1223F61F39B601C&index=5]música del genial "Masato Nakamura" simplemente mágica[/url][/u]

Historia simple y orientada al público infantil. Cinemáticas y diálogos no contiene, aunque tampoco le hace falta.

Lo que no convence:

- Físicas mediocres en los saltos, al igual que ocurría en Super Mario Bros. Se puede cambiar la dirección mientras el personaje está en el aire saltando, y además al caer suele resbalar y no quedarse en el sitio. Esto genera bastante frustración y es fácil morir debido a una mala caída.

- Dificultad capada. No hay niveles, te tienes que aguantar, tanto si te parece fácil como si te resulta difícil. Además la IA es muy simple, no reacciona, simplemente sigue patrones de movimiento predefinidos.

Conclusión: obviamente al ser el primero, carece de las mejoras y personajes que fueron apareciendo en [u][url=https://steamcommunity.com/id/gequi_/recommended/71163/]posteriores entregas[/url][/u], pero es un buen comienzo de la saga. De todas formas le voto negativo porque ha sido eliminado de la tienda de Steam. Es un caso similar a [u][url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/1547000/Grand_Theft_Auto_San_Andreas__The_Definitive_Edition/]las nuevas versiones de los antiguos GTA[/url][/u]. Al haber publicado en 2022 una remasterización ([u][url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/1794960/Sonic_Origins/]Sonic Origins[/url][/u]) donde se incluye este juego, ya no permiten comprar los originales por separado.

Really amazing to see such piece of history.
A game that works as a DLC for this bundle:
The SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis Classics.
Which is basically a legal emulation bundle.
This game is originally from 1991. Very old.
And: I'm happy to see it included on Steam.
I have two main positives to say about that:
The first cool positive: The ROM is included.
Which is fantastic for the fans of emulation.
We can boot it up for example in RetroArch.
Or pretty much any other software for emu.
I can't stress enough: How awesome that is.
An actual ROM legally obtainable on Steam.
It's perfect, but let's get to the 2nd positive:
Steam Workshop is supported and It's dope.
Who would've guessed we'll get retro mods.
It's a lovely addition to the retro experience.
However there are some negatives in here:
You can't buy it anymore for weird reasons.
They released a newer collection of Sonic.
Which is arguably a truly worse collection.
Not to mention: A lot more expensive one.
I really dislike that they removed this DLC.
Which is why I had to give it a bad review.
I will change my review if they return this.

[h1]You're too slow![/h1]

[b][u]Disclaimer:[/u][/b] I never played Super Mario World (only the NES one) but many of the features of the NES and SNES Mario titles were brought to New Super Mario Bros. which I played a lot when I was younger (all I'm saying is that I've been a Mario kid, and not a Sonic one, and these last 2 months have been the only time I've played Sonic games in my life). So in terms of a 16-bit comparison, I have no other benchmark to see if these games exceed or falter.

Sonic 1 is more of a platformer with puzzles rather than a Blast Processing simulator like 2, 3, and CD, with occasional Loop de Loops. It really does show its irrelevancy in that sense, especially with the lack of the Spin-Dash, which sucked for me since I played Sonic 2, Mania, and Generations before this and felt at many times the game was lacking a crucial mechanic (Though its [i]focus[/i] was on building up momentum instead of giving you the instant gratification that comes with Spin-Dashes, everything felt slower overall.)

As long as you're in a ball, you deal damage (unless it's just after you touch the ground and you take damage to whatever is there). Even though the spin-dash is absent, you can do a sick quick-roll immediately in front of a badnik to take it out. Having these ROMs in widescreen could've been great as Sonic scrolls horizontally most of the time and seeing more of his upcoming obstacles definitely lets you react better.

Teabagging is by far the strongest in this game because there are fewer intermediate frames of animation for ducking, something that I did in this game as a fidgeting mechanism while waiting for platforms to slowly come to me.

There are no [b]Saves[/b] in Sonic 1 or 2, so you end up repeating Green Hill over and over again whenever you decide to pop in Sonic 1, without ever revisiting [i]Spring Yard and Star Light Zones[/i] because of the pace breaking stages in between them making you want to end your run. You gotta rely on savestates in the emulator (where you get up to 4 slots for each game on the Genesis and Megadrive Collection), so it's advised to place a save upon reaching each quarter of the game to keep a permanent memory of your playthrough.

There are only 7 zones here, just like Sonic CD, but each of them has been dragged out to 3 acts, with the third one mainly being a boss fight in its second half, which is a far cry from the variety seen in Sonic 2 and 3K in the future. I like the music of every Zone apart from Marble Garden and the Final Zone, and they're just gonna keep getting better.

The sound effects for stuff like blades spinning or boulders breaking always irritated me. It always felt like the genesis couldn't reproduce that sound well enough and was instead spitting profusely at me. (it sometimes sounds even worse than the fire-spitting sound effect from Bowser in the first NES Mario game)

it's good that Sega gave away Sonic 2 instead of 1 back during their 60th anniversary, cause if I had started with this game instead, I would've probably dropped it after the first zone and gone on believing the lies about Sonic never being a good franchise.

[h1]Sonic CD (2012):[/h1]

I tried Sonic CD before it got delisted but refunded it because the uncapped framerate made the physics too wonky to play with (game speed was more than doubled). Mania redid the best parts of CD anyways, so I didn't have any regrets about not being able to beat Metal Sonic at the end of the 2nd last stage which I reached by flying through all the bad futures without a care in the world to fix Little Planet cause I was fed up of initiating a time travel as soon as I hit top speed after passing a sign accidentally.

Sega definitely beat Nintendo at shifting from chiptune music to higher bitrate CD-quality soundtracks with voices and stuff for Sonic CD (especially the weird, quirky kind with the JP soundtrack), and even though Nintendo beat them to the adaptive soundtrack race, I feel that for replay listens, Sega's approach for overhauling the Zone themes with contextual remixes was better than adding a Bongo track onto Mario soundtracks when you sit on Yoshi. The beeps and boops of the Genesis sound more like rock music compared to the SNES' softer but heavier music. Even though 1 and 2 are pop music, 3 is pop-rock; CD is the most experimental with its 90s SFX mash-ups.

Sonic CD has the same number of zones as Sonic 1, which also might explain how CD is more of a supplement to Sonic 1 rather than a sequel that defeats it in every category. Metal Sonic's appearance, in-game, and external promotional material with all the animated shorts and renders were all adding up to it being my favorite antagonist in the series, even more than Knuckles, even though he had more interaction with the player in the game that he was in; and it helped keep that abomination of a creation an elusive entity throughout.

Honestly...I'm not so sure if I do recommend the original Sonic 1 or not. If I ever go back to Sonic 1 - I usually do it to play the plethora of ROM hacks for this game, from simple changes like adding the spindash or huge changes like revamping the entire game, I'd be hard-pressed to tell you that I replay the original 1991 release very often. It's because this game [i]feels[/i] dated to play.

Don't get me wrong - I acknowledge that this game was incredibly revolutionary for its time. This game birthed one of my favorite franchises of all-time and the influence it had on making Sega a powerhouse in the 90s can't be overstated enough. But when there are so many better Sonic games out there - Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic Mania, heck even the Sonic Advance games - the only merit I'd see in playing Sonic 1 is either for the ROM hacks like I've mentioned (I highly recommend the spindash ROM hack or the Super/Hyper Sonic in Sonic 1 ROM hack) or for those seeking to see how the blue blur's humble beginnings looked like nearly 30 years ago.

There is a better version of this game out there, however it's relegated to mobile platforms, being a total remake by Christian Whitehead which adds a whole bunch of quality of life changes to the game, like the aforementioned spindash and even a much better level select. If that were the version released on Steam (as Whitehead's version of Sonic CD is), I'd probably recommend it. But as it stands - I'd highly recommend playing other Sonic games than this if you're not interested in Sonic's history.

Influential for its time, definitely, but has aged like milk. When your best zone is the first zone - you know you have a problem, in my opinion.

The game that started it all and proved that blast processing was a force to be reckoned with. My opinion of this game is a little mixed. On one hand, about half the levels are fast, frantic fun. However, I don't like the slow, repetitive platforming that plagues the other half of the levels. Still, Sonic 1 holds up much better than its 8-bit contemporaries. A must-play.

[h1][b]Настолько быстрая классика, что скорость даже мешает.[/b][/h1]

Мне было лет 5-6, на день рождения мне как и всегда дарили разные подарки и бабушка тогда дала мне странную штуковину, которую надо подключать к телевизору, с этого всё и началось. Через месяц отец пошёл на рынок что бы скупиться и принести мне новый картридж и принёс он необычную игру с каким-то синим чудиком, с этого началась моя история длинной более 12 лет связанная с этим персонажем.

[h1][b]Плюсы:[/b][/h1]

Первое что тогда впечатлило это скорость игры, уровни хоть и были большими, но ёж бежал по ним очень быстро и это всегда впечатляло, даже сейчас скакануть по Грин Хиллу офигенно. Не зря же ведь Соник сверхзвуковой.
Игра выглядит восхитительно, её визуал и цвета прекрасны, а уровни красочные и запоминаются, для 16 бит игра выглядит очень достойно и даже великолепно.
Музыка прекрасная, всё эти треки запоминаются и оседают в голове на всю жизнь, композиторы великолепные как и ихни треки, навсегда в голове и сердце.
Безусловно и сам геймплей работает, сложность равномерная, боссы интересные, механик хоть и маловато, но их с головой хватает для того что бы не заскучать на всём протяжении игры.

[h1][b]Минусы:[/b][/h1]

Эмулятор работает как дура с этой игрой, куча багов, звук багует тоже из-за чего иногда режет уши, а проседы в местах где не должны быть просто вымораживают. Но это уже не проблема игры.
После Грин Хилла с каждой зоной больше и больше проседает скорость, в конце уже ели ходишь потому что везде ловушки и враги, скорость игры уже вредит ей, а не помогает, в будущих частях это исправят, но здесь это критично.

[h1][b]Итог: настолько быстро бежал что в конце сломал ноги.[/b][/h1]

[h1]Безусловно классика в которую и сейчас будет интересно поиграть каждому, конечно геймдизайнерское решение со скоростью игры в конце фигня, но всё остальное сделано на высшем уровне.[/h1]

We talk a lot about games ageing poorly, and it can often be hard to tell precisely what that means and what it is that makes a game subject to it. A prime example of this phenomenon is [i]Sonic the Hedgehog[/i], 1991 critical darling and Harbinger of Screaming Children. The Sega Mega Drive’s biggest success is still cited today as a great title, usually to the effect of: “how did they ♥♥♥♥ up this franchise so colossally?”. Such a consensus tends to come from people who loved [i]Sonic[/i] as a 10-year-old in the early ‘90s, but haven’t played it since. The reason I say this is because playing [i]Sonic the Hedgehog[/i] is like trying to read a book on a high-speed rollercoaster. I don’t know if it’s the headachy, precise level design, slippery, high-speed controls, or the way these things combine with the tiny view distance to create a game that only a purpose-built robot could play without having memorised level patterns… actually, that pretty much says it all.

[i]Sonic[/i] is the Ubisoft sandbox of the last generation; a game so vapid and poorly designed that it’s continued popularity is nothing but a glaring testament to the amount of nostalgia junkies who just never got around to replaying it. When you’re holding down right and pounding along at 300 km/h it’s lovely, with the admittedly excellent Mega Drive graphics dashing by at mach speed, but it’s when the game suddenly and without warning transitions into a [i]Mario[/i]-esque platform hop over spike pits that it gets hairy. The only way you’d know this obstacle is coming is by knowing the level, so on your first playthrough you’re [i]♥♥♥♥♥♥[/i]. It’s not just retrospectively awful game design; in 1991, [i]Sonic[/i] was still a steaming pile of garbage and now, stripped of the value that it’s aesthetics gave it then, it stands as a monument to just how far you could get on graphics alone in an era before they existed on this scale. Unless you loved it as a kid and are willing to spend a couple of hours in denial, avoid [i]Sonic the Hedgehog[/i] like you’d avoid an actual hedgehog that moved that fast.

If you need a fix this and don't want to emulate through other means this will do the trick, but the game doesn't play as well as it does on an actual Genesis. Slowdown where slowdown wouldn't occur, even some audio bugs.

Tried a couple unofficial Genesis emulators and they aren't doing it as well as the original system either, very noticeably so. Unofficial Nintendo emulation isn't 100% accurate either but what I use it's 98% - 99% accuracy, you can't notice the quality drop when playing, the only way you'd know is if you were trying some frame-perfect speedrun exploits and the counting was off. I guess there isn't as much interest on the unofficial end to get a Genesis emulator to the same level of quality as exsists with Nintendo emulators. That or unofficial Nintendo emulators have attracted better talent... at the end of the day the only way to get the proper experience from these games is the original consoles on a CRT.

Getting back to this package, it's always ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to pay for emulation that ends up being lackluster, though in this case it's better than what can be had unofficially, so at least you're getting something better for your money, unlike most cases (ie. Chrono Trigger Steam, Final Fantasy V/VI Steam, anything on any of the Nintendo VCs vs. unofficial Nintendo emulation, etc.)

Despite the issues with emulation, the core game is overall a good experience. Sonic has terrible air control, which can be pretty frustrating at times because you can't reflexively twitch away from an obstacle or enemy mid-jump, and for the most part are committed to your route. The sound design, again aside from the emulation issues, is great. Most of the art is high-quality retro grade as well, far better than most indies that attempt to emulate this era, but some of it (mainly in the later stages) seems really dull and slapped together.

The game overall isn't too difficult outside of the bonus stages, where a couple can be more frustrating than fun - it's very hard to end the bonus stages early since you can jump off the sides of walls to avoid hitting the "goals" and exiting instead of getting the Chaos Emeralds. The underwater sections can be annoying when you need an airbubble that isn't spawning and then you die, there is also one section in Star Light (Act 2 or 3, I didn't write it down) where you can get stuck and *need* to take a hit from an enemy (losing all your rings) to get access to a higher platform. The fix of course is to take a different route, but if you're a first time player, you may run into this. It's just bad design.

100 rings gets you an extra life. Unlike Mario games of that era (and most Mario games) where coins would carry over from stage to stage, ring counts don't carry over from stage to stage. They're instead emptied into a score count at the end of each stage at 100 points per ring. This score count means nothing beyond challenging friends to see who can get the highest score. Getting 50 rings to the end of a non-boss stage gives you access to the bonus stage. Clearing all six bonus stages gets you all Chaos Emeralds and the best ending. Getting 50 or more rings in a bonus stage earns you an extra continue. Getting 100 or more rings in a bonus stage gets you an extra life. You get ten chances to collect all six Chaos Emeralds, as there are ten levels that let you access the bonus stages. Acquiring all six Chaos Emeralds gives you a screen letting you know you got all the Chaos Emeralds, as well as a slightly different ending (Robotnik is stomping the words "The End" at the end of the game instead of playing with the Chaos Emeralds). Unlike Sonic 2 and 3, you don't gain access to a Super Sonic mode from having all the Chaos Emeralds.

Hitting recommended, but with the caveat of "noticeably not as high quality as the Genesis release, but currently the best way to play this on PC".

There is currently a free official version of this game on Android/iOS. It has a crappy blur filter applied which the Steam paid versions let you remove, along with mod support and other things.

The Android/iOS versions of Sonic 1 and 2 have additional content, some of which was planned to be released in the originals but was cut due to whatever reasons. It also has a higher FoV for widescreen resolutions, which means you see more on the screen at once and it makes the game easier. The game also runs much smoother on the Android/iOS version than it ever has. However due to the forced blur filter I'd still think people would prefer the original Genesis or Steam emulated versions. It would be wonderful to have that version ported to PC with an option to disable the smear filter however.

I had a good time, received this from Sega as it's Sonic Mania delay apology.

-It's a good game, it's not the best, it's far too easy for experienced players, i mean, i took me a few hours max to finish this with all the 6 Chaos Emeralds.

-The soundtrack still one of my favourites, being Marble Zone, Labyrinth, Scrap Brain and Final Zone the ones that i enjoy the most.

-Gameplay it's okay, you can do things the fast way or the "i'm afraid to lose a life so i will run slowly".
Level desing is amazing for the time when this was released.

-My only complain is that this is not the Re-master that android has, and it's really a shame, but it's okay.

-I experienced some fps drops, maybe it's because of my pc, maybe because of the emulator, but i don't know, mostly it happens when i get hit underwater and the rings are spilled all over the place.

Thanks Sega, not for the delay, but for at least giving us something to kill time.
It's not something WOAH woah Woah WOAH WOAH, but.. it's something, other companies do not give a ♥♥♥♥ about how the people that pre-order feel about a delay.
I really not appove this, because I got spoiled already, and it could be better a delay in all plataforms, not just PC, but, okay, it's your business, not mine, you know your deal. Anyways, hope next time give us, something related to the game itself, like it's soundtrack, a demo, a special feature and not an old 2 dollar game.

Sonic The Hedgehog is the first platformer game featuring Sega's most infamous mascot: Sonic. The Hedgehog, FYI. It came out in 1991 for Sega Genesis, made to become the next big thing. Developed by soon-to-be Sonic Team division, formed out of members of Sega of Japan, of course. 4 Megabit ROM cartridge, some of which got wasted away by high-quality “Sega” choir sample.
There also were 8-bit versions that came out later that were pretty much different games. And this game also seen few re-releases, as both emulation or ports. The best ever version is the one on iPhone, made by Taxman.
It would become a pack-in title for Sega Genesis, replacing Altered Beast.

The game that you have here is nothing more than emulation of Sega Genesis version. It's “Revision 01”, which is a bit fixed up release, the latest original one. It tweaked stuff a bit, adding more paralax layers for clouds in Green Hill zone, ripples for underwater areas and so on. Nope, spike bug where the spikes ignore invincibility-due-to-recently-being-hit is still present.

Now, technical part about Sega's emulation here:
The Sega Classic games that you purchase on Steam count as DLCs for "Sega Mega Drive & Genesis Classics" game that should appear in your library.
It has Bedroom HUB which is the one with many features yet lags for many and Simply Launcher which lacks Workshop and Online but at least it works just fine for everybody.
However, Simple Launcher has it's fair share of glitches as well. It can crash. And it does the second time you go to main menu, so always quit after saving there so it doesn't crash when you want to save next time!
Emulation itself, mostly sound, isn't that good but it does it's job. Also, yes, emulator supports quick saves.
As alternative, you can use external emulator to run games that you purchased. Sega kindly placed in all games that you purchased in "uncompressed ROMs" folder that program itself doesn't use, just change file extension to ".bin" or so. The file for this one being "SONIC_W.68K".
I also demand you to read digital manual of this game first. You can find it here on store page or go to "manuals" folder of game root and open "STH1_PC_MG_EFIGS.pdf".

The premise of the first Sonic game is simple. You got South Island, which drifts over sea due to mysterious power of six Chaos Emeralds. You got Eggman, known as Robotnik in western manuals, who captured every animal into robots. And you got Sonic, blue blur with attitude, who blew game reviewers minds back then due to his very-attitude two-frames-long idle animation of foot-tapping.
Featuring Flicky from Flicky video game, yay!

Sonic brought new concept into the genre and was outstanding game. The game was marketed as having the fastest character around. But you will not notice it in this one, it's slower-paced than later Sonic games. This one has much more emphasis on rolling and general physics. And this is what makes this game great as a platformer. The slopes will impact your speed and you may need to gain some speed before attempting to move up the slope. No spin-dash for you in this game! Sonic can roll, being hedgehog. He can only damage enemies when he is rolling, whether by jumping or on the ground.
So have an important protip: press Down while moving to roll.
You should use ground rolling more often than in other Sonic games. To roll under some obstacles, for example. Or hit the robot that has spikes on it. You will even notice that you will speed up even more when rolling down the slope. Yep, the max speed cap is higher when you are rolling. Not to mentioning that you will destroy robots while doing so, sooo.

Another unique thing is ring health system that Sonic franchise kept ever since. You collect rings and as long as you have a any rings you can take a hit without dying. All the rings will scatter off you when you take hit (though the maximum amount that game spawns out of you is 20, otherwise Genesis would have died painfully) and you have to grab them again before they disappear. A great system for a platformer, even if Sonic franchise been around for so long that people don't think much of it anymore. You also get extra life when you get 100 rings. That, or you can get extra life in this revision if you get 50000 points and so on.

And if you get 50 rings and get to the end of any of the first two acts of each zone aside from the last zone (there are 6 zones and 3 acts per zone) you will be able to enter special stage where you can get chaos emerald. You need 6 of them to get a good ending. Not that it's much different from normal, just more flower. If anything, it's more worth getting into special stage is because getting 50 rings gives you a whole continue.
Special Stage itself isn't much. It's a rotating maze and you can barely any control over Sonic aside from jumping. Not the greatest in Sonic franchise, but fair and enjoyable. If anything, it's how you have limited tries to do it through a single run is what keeps me excited.

And yep, going fast. Sega would later use Blast Processor term for console, as something that allows it to handle Sonic games. Of course fast moving sprites and background isn't something that only Genesis could pull off. Just check out how fast the unreleased Bio Force Ape game on NES moves at times. Blast Processor is just a way of saying “faster processor than SNES” and reference to high-speed DMA controller. And who knows what that means.

By the way, I am not sure if it's related to what I said or just faster processor, but if you take a look at mentioned Bio Force Ape game again, you will notice that during speed section the layout of rooms seem to repeat constantly for a while, yea. Probably so NES doesn't have to load anything. I also heard that Sonic engine on Genesis only allowed to load 2 or so new tiles per frame, while you are running forward in level? Not sure, it was something I once read long time ago and couldn't find it again now. I am saying this only to show you what you should be looking for, really.
But hey, no slowdowns!

And yep, graphics and music are really great, especially for 1991. Colorful. Melodical. Has abstract style. It sure features many cities in background for a natural island where animals live. Level design is great, having few places where rolling does wonders. Underwater level isn't as bad as many say, it's actually fun at making you worry. But nothing unfair.

That, and this game set level design standart for a Sonic franchise where levels often have few routes for you to take and the top one tend to be the easiest one. And it's fun to use a different route that you have never taken before. They were also quite big for it's time. And have a lot of secrets as well!

The only bad things in this game are bosses. These were weak for a Sonic game. Just Robotnik with whatever weak gimmick over his flying mobile, always taking 8 hits to destroy and being predictable and repetitive. Like, just having a spike under the machine. So yea, for bosses, I prefer other Sonic games. But I find Sonic 1 to the best for normal stages.

"[b]WOW[/b]", questa era l'esclamazione di quando era uscito per la prima volta Sonic sul sega mega drive.
La grafica 16bit, i colori, e sopratutto la velocità del gioco fecero diventare Sonic tra i personaggi videoludici più famosi di sempre.
Ai tempi nessun gioco aveva mai raggiunto la sua velocità, era talmente veloce che per un attimo credevamo uscisse dallo schermo.

Ora quello che vi scrive la recensione non è un videogiocatore di vecchia data, quando era uscito il gioco io non ero neanche nato. Ma posso comunque "condividere" le esperienze che ho avuto con un altro tipo di Sonic.
Da bambino giocavo su pc, e avevo pochi giochi, ma ho avuto le stesse emozioni raccontate prima quando giocavi per la prima volta a SONIC CD.

Chi non conosce Sonic? Penso che qualunque videogiocatore abbia almeno provato una volta un suo titolo.

La trama è semplice: un diabolico scienziato (Dottor Ivo Robotnik) vuole conquistare il mondo trasformando tutti gli animali in robot.
A livello di gameplay è un platform 2D originalissimo (per i suoi tempi), basta solo vedere com'è strutturata la "barra dell'energia" fatta da anelli che troverai in giro. Se ti colpiscono te li faranno cadere tutti, e devi essere veloce a raccoglierne il più possibile. Se invece ti colpiscono quando non tieni neanche un anello sarà game over (ps: anche se tenete anelli, le trappole che vi schiacciano vi uccideranno facendovi perdere una vita).
Se riuscirete a finire il livello con 50 monete o più, riuscirete ad entrare in questo special stage dove vi permetterà di raccogliere i chaos emerald (in questo gioco sono 6 e non vi potrete trasformare in Super Sonic).
Anche i vari power up sono originali, situati tutti in questi monitor. Si passa dallo scudo (che vi permetterà di proteggervi da un attacco senza farvi perdere monete), alla velocità, o invincibilità per un periodo breve.

Le ambientazioni del gioco le ho trovate molto colorate e diverse tra loro, mentre a livello tecnico i livelli del gioco sono veramente grandi. Sono lineari alla Super Mario, ma ci saranno tanti percorsi su cui proseguire, molti punti "segreti" e così via.
I livelli in tutto saranno 6 (7 con il boss finale).

I boss del gioco invece li ho trovati forse fin troppo facili. In molti giochi vecchi i boss ti davano quel senso di sfida che una volta abbattuti ne eri sodisfatto, qua (per eccezione del quarto e dell'ultimo che vi farà impegnare di più) sono molto semplici.

Riguardo la soundtrack invece, tengono le classiche musichette che non riuscirete più a togliervi dalla testa, ottima colonna sonora molto "adrenalinica".

Che dire, non ho più niente da dire su questo gioco, l'unico contro (che è anche un pro) che segnalo (che per me è un contro) sono i salvataggi caricamenti rapiti, che fanno perdere molto il fascino del gioco. Per carità una volta che morivi dovevi ricominciarti tutto il gioco, ma avrei preferito una selezione di livelli, uno così se ne approfitta e salva davanti al boss. Perde il fascino della "sfida" di Sonic secondo me.

Aggiungo un'altra cosa, in questa versione di steam, hanno messo il Workshop! Esattamente! Ci sono tantissime mod per i vari Sonic, e sono una figata!
Infatti concludo la recensione aggiungendo in seguito vari consigli per le mod per Sonic 1.

Tra le mod giocate penso sia il mio preferito.
Soprattutto perchè Metal Sonic l'ho sempre trovato figo da bambino, e giocare nei suoi panni mi fà gasare tantissimo, è sempre stato un sogno per me poterlo usare, e grazie a questa mod è possibile.
Realizzata benissimo, il personaggio al posto di abbassarsi e fare la ruota, si spinge a braccia tese con un'aura POTENTISSIMA interno a sè danneggiando i nemici (come in Sonic CD), può respirare all'infinito sott'acqua.
E pure i livelli realizzati li ho trovati molto ben fatti e difficili al punto giusto. Usano texture di altri giochi di Sonic, e i chaos emerald si possono prendere tramite monitor nascosti e saltando nell'anello gigante a fine livello (non ci sono livelli bonus).
I boss invece sono riciclati, con la differenza della skin (Robotnik robot) e della resistenza dei boss (si dovranno colpire più volte rispetto a quelli del primo sonic).
Solo l''ultimo boss ha una texture diversa, una specie di Sonic con gli occhi rossi, e sinceramente brutto da vedere.

Impressionante come sia riuscito a fare le animazioni di Sonic in maniera molto più fluida, sembra di ritrovarsi davanti a un altro gioco.

-I livelli sono belli lunghi
-Le texture sono rifatte da 0 penso si svolga in un altro pianeta diverso dal classico.
-Nemici nuovi
-congegni nuovi (pulsanti gravitazionali, apparecchi volanti, e molti altri)
-Le musiche a mio parere sono messe alla perfezione in questi tipi di livelli, le ho apprezzate veramente tantissimo, facendomi conoscere "compositori" che non conoscevo.
-Boss originalissimo e stranissimo allo stesso tempo (non ci ritroveremo davanti al classico Robotnik)

L'unico contro che ho trovato è la sua longevità. Ve lo farà durare una mezz'ora che è tanto visto che è composto solo da 3 livelli.
Assolutamente da provare una volta finito Sonic.

Di sicuro la mod più originale

Vi siete mai chiesti a fine di ogni livello di Sonic come Robotnik abbia fatto a mettere tutti quei animali in quella capsula?
Ok, sinceramente neanche io, ma questa mod vi spiegerà come ha fatto.
Impersonerete Dr Ivo Robotnik, e con una retina classica da acchiappa farfalle, dovrete catturare tutti gli animali sparsi per il livello, con tanto di tempo limite, e metterli dentro alla capsula in questione. Ogni volta che metterete un animale nella capsula il tempo liminte si allungherà.
E' ben fatta, i livelli sono i classici del primo Sonic (a livello di texture), e piano piano avanzando di livello a livello diventerà veramente molto difficile. Dai primi livelli avrete la capsula affiancata a voi, e nei livelli successivi dovrete pure cercarla.
Una mod simpatica che vi consiglio di provare.

Majority of the people are probably going to buy this game only for sake of nostalgia purposes. Its rather cheap game so why not really, while i do not think its best of the old sonic games its still decent title and rather revolutionary when it comes to whole gaming industry.

Я мабуть не зустрічав людей які б не знали хто такий Сонік. І взагалі, більшість людей від 20 років 100% грали в цю гру ще на [b]SEGA Megadrive[/b] (вона ж [b]Genesis[/b]).
Тому про саму гру розказувати немає чого - просто шедевр!
А от в стімі вона вийшла не як [i]Remaster[/i] і не як звичайний [i]порт[/i], а у вигляді [i]емулятора[/i] з вшитою оригінальною грою для Megadrive від SEGA.
І я мушу визнати, що проблем з цим не виникає жодних. Даний емулятор набагато краще тих, якими я користувався.
Все ідеально: багів немає, інтерфейс лаконічний, налаштування прості.

세가의 마스코트이자 전성기의 상징인 소닉의 그 첫 번째 이야기.
당시 마리오의 라이벌로 만들어지면서 마리오와는 다른 방향을 추구하면서 선택한 것이 '스피드'였기 때문에 이 게임은 당시 기준으로 엄청난 속도를 자랑한다.

사실 아무것도 모르던 시절 적 하나하나 제거하며 천천히 진행했었는데 나중에 보니 다들 빨리달리면서 점수는 그다지 신경쓰지 않고 클리어하는 것을 보며 꽤 놀랬었다.

스피드를 중시한 면 때문에 속도를 제어하지 못해 '링' 시스템이 들어갔으며 이는 아주 탁월한 선택으로 이후 소닉에 링이 빠지면 아쉬울 정도.

스토리도 단순하며, 충분히 빨리 달리며 쾌속으로 스테이지를 클리어하는 재미가 있는 작품

지금와서 생각해보지만 스피드가 소닉을 만들었지만, 지금은 그 스피드 때문에 마리오 시리즈와는 달리 다양한 시도가 속도감을 죽였단 이유로 좋지 않은 평을 듣는 양날의 검이 되버린 느낌이다.

소닉 시리즈는 매 시리즈마다 OST도 듣는 맛이 있으니 꼭 한 번 해보도록하자.

초기 작품이라 지금은 익숙할 여러가지 편한 기술, 시스템이 이 때는 없었기 때문에 말 그대로 단순히 즐기기에 좋다.

근데 스팀 버전은 에뮬레이터랑 별반 다를 것이 없기 때문에 구매하기엔 좀 부담스러울 수 있겠다.

The Sonic games hold up to the test of time very well as good solid platformers. I had Sonic 2 as a child so I found Sonic 1 rather hard to get into as it does not have the spin dash move. Sonic 1 seems much more unforgiving and difficult compared to sonic 2. As games of this era had no save function, by the time you got to the final boss you would have played the first levels hundreds of times and know them like the back of your hand. So if you come to the game now without this experience it does seem rather difficult. The quick save function on this emulator works well to compensate for my reduced attention span. Overall if you are looking at this game because of nostalgia buy it and it will live up to your memories if you did not play this as a child I'd probably not bother.

This game was one of the harder ones to beat, but once you beat it you learn to appreciate how awesome it really was. Die-hard Sonic fans cannot call themselves that without having played and beaten the old school Sonic games, this included.
