Sinceramente, achei o jogo muito bom, muito mesmo, mas me decepcionei. Quando chega no último boss, o jogo dá erro. Não dava para pedir reembolso, mesmo se desse, não iria pedir porque pensei que o erro poderia ser resolvido. Então, resolvi esperar. Já se passaram quase 1 ano desde que comprei o jogo e nada. Esse erro não é somente comigo, vi que também outras pessoas reportaram o mesmo erro... espero que os devs resolvam isso, porque ainda gostaria de terminá-lo.

Everyone talks about the slick biopunk art style and the hype soundtrack (both of which are outstanding, to be fair), but what's not talked about enough is how unique the gameplay loop is. Like, the devs really took a big swing at translating a variety of action genres into one coherent system, and it's incredible how much of it connects. There is definitely a learning curve, especially once the game takes off the training wheels a few stages in, but the same is true of any action game that experiments with a new gameplay formula. Once you learn what the game is asking of you, and maybe spent some time in the training room after looking up some tips online (real ones know), the game really starts to click, and it feels like nothing else I've ever played. I truly hope this game did well enough to get a sequel in the works, because it would be a shame if this was the only iteration of this 2D character action/fighting game hybrid.

Also, if I can succumb to franchise hype for just a second, imagine if this dev team got to remake the original 3D mech shooter with this art style. Cyberpunk fans would have an all-timer on their hands.

Получится главный герой игры [b]Slave Zero X[/b]: симбиоз Шу, члена повстанческой организации, и Икс, живой брони.
И всё это происходит в мире деспотичного будущего, города Мегасити, управляемого Ханом Повелителем, которому главный герой и бросил вызов. С первых же кадров мы видим упадок общества, превышение полномочий должностными личностями и другие причины, из-за которых Шу собирается уничтожить правящего лидера.

[h2]Геймплей[/h2]

[b]Перейдём же от красок к сущности.[/b]
[b]Slave Zero X[/b] — это 2,5D экшен, жанр лучше всего определить как «битемап-слэшер». В процессе динамичного и яркого геймплея вы сами должны будете изучать доступные приёмы (никто вам их не подскажет).
В арсенале у нашего героя катана, различные приёмы, смертельная синхронизация, метательные снаряды разного толка и уклонение с парированием. Звучит немного, но этого более чем достаточно, чтобы обеспечить ураганный геймплей. Впрочем, я как-то обошёлся и без некоторых элементов на протяжении большей части игры. Например, использовать целенаправленно блокирование урона в этой игре не только сложно, но и бесполезно, поскольку отражение одного удара никак не спасает вас от последующего за ним ещё одного, от которого уже будет не так просто защититься.

[b]Враги[/b]. Они разные. От простых болванчиков, которых порубить не составит труда, до сильных соперников, которые не будут прощать ваши ошибки. При этом игра сражается с игроком, выставляя порой крайне много врагов, а стоит отметить, что немало врагов обладает атаками, которые вводят главного героя в оглушающее состоянии или же попросту захватывают, проводят свою серию атак, отпускают или бросают, а потом вас подхватывает ещё один враг в свою атаку. Этим пользуются не только стандартные враги, но и боссы, выкручивая это на максимум в исключительных случаях. В какой-то момент игры вам может показаться, что игра хочет вас унизить такими трюками с постоянными станами, и это так. Игра бросает вызов игроку, но главное помнить, что всё это проходимо, нужны лишь тренировки и щепотка упорства.

[b]Боссы[/b]. Интересны и разнообразны. Каждого надо несколько раз "потыкать", при этом умерев, ради понимания атак. Что не есть инновация, но тем не менее мне доставило это удовольствие (возможно просто стоит поиграть в какой-нибудь добротный слэшер). Отдельно отмечу лишь предпоследнего и последнего босса. Первого из-за его сложности и невыносимости, проходить его было сложнее и больнее всего, но поэтому и интереснее, это было прекрасным испытанием. Второго из-за его скучности, серости и безвкусности на контрасте с предпоследним. Почему-то последний босс достал откуда-то гастер-бластеры от Санса, огненные черепки, испускаемые, словно из иного мира, да и в принципе босс выбивается атаками из общей атмосферы, привлекая слишком много потустороннего, что не вяжется с показанной атмосферой биопанка, как по мне.

[h2]Атмосфера и нарратив[/h2]
По атмосфере города я чувствую нотки «Акиры», что-то мне неизменно напоминает об этом аниме во время игры. Локации красивые, а выбранный стиль идёт, как по мне, исключительно на пользу. Персонажи явно были созданы под впечатлением от Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Под очень сильным впечатлением. Это чувствуется и во внешнем виде, и в репликах, и даже в том, как эти реплики произносятся.

Игра приятно рассказывает историю, вплетая флешбэки главного героя, показывая его мотивацию и ошибки на своём пути. Впрочем, большая часть персонажей не раскрылась до конца, поэтому и сильного сопереживания не вызывает, как, например, в том же Metal Gear Rising, где каждый персонаж запоминается из-за создаваемой им атмосферы, его фраз и действий. Тут же крайне не хватает такого.

Единственная фраза, имеющая вес и хорошо поставленная со сценарной точки зрения.
Так же, как и не раскрылись персонажи, много тем не раскрылись достаточно, как могли бы. Много где не хватило эмоционального напряжения. Наверное, тут виновата ещё скорость происходящего, поскольку она не даёт достаточно глубоко пропитаться сопереживанием к персонажам. И я неустанно провожу параллели между Slave Zero X и Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, в них очень много схожего! И на фоне MGR игра данного обзора показывает, что ей в сюжетном и смысленном плане на самом деле не хватило будто бы раскрытия и большей чувственности.

Финал оставил неприятное послевкусие... Какой-то он скомканный. Сделал ли персонаж то, что хотел? Не до конца. Изменилось ли что-то от его действий? Да глобально тоже нет. Больше похоже на белые нитки, которыми приквел, коим является Slave Zero X, пришили к основной истории, но сделали это будто бы крайне наспех.

Отдельно отмечу музыку игры. Она хоть и не самая запоминающаяся, но хорошая. Музыка поддерживает драйвовый темп игры и создаёт нужную атмосферу. Впрочем, добивает финального босса даже музыка, поскольку в этот бой играет какое-то, на мой взгляд, унылое аудио.

[h2]Минусы игры[/h2]
Да, я выделил это в отдельный пункт, поскольку тут есть, о чём порассуждать.

— [b]Игра короткая[/b]. Думается, что сложность замедлит игру, и это так, но... Я её прошёл за 9 часов, что на самом деле грустно. История не успевает дойти до нужных оборотов напряжения, хотя некоторые моменты будто бы могли нагнать дополнительной вовлечённости. Темы внутреннего конфликта, человечности в экспериментах и использовании в качестве оружия разумных существ, любви могли бы быть раскрыты более развёрнуто, но увы и ах. Поэтому и остаётся неприятное послевкусие: персонажей до конца не раскрыли, финал скомкали, действия персонажа по итогу около нулевые в глобальном плане (а его личной историей мы не успеваем проникнуться сильно).
—[b]Контент после прохождения[/b]. Этот пункт важен, поскольку игра довольна короткая. Может, хотя бы после истории будет что-то, что заинтересует продолжать запускать игру? Как бы да, но... Нет. В игре аналог Кровавого дворца из Devil May Cry — Багровая цитадель. Это режим, в котором вам надо будет проходить волну за волной и покупать улучшения на ходу. Проиграли — начинайте сначала. Хороший режим, нет вопросов. После него остаётся только усиленная версия финального босса, которую лично я потрогать пока не могу, поскольку доступ к ней требует полного прохождения Багровой цитадели, а мне она пока не далась. По словам одного из разработчиков, это оригинальная версия босса, но ни один из тестировщиков не смог её пройти, поэтому босса пришлось ослабить для основной истории.
— [b]Тренировочное додзё[/b]. Отмечу это отдельно, поскольку такая вещь появилась ещё и, например, в Devil May Cry 5, и было это за 5 лет до выхода Slave Zero X, но, к сожалению, этой функции не хватает настроек для комфортного тестирования комбо, способностей и исследования игровых механик. Впрочем, спасибо, что это вообще есть, очень приятно потыкать кнопочки и понять, на что ты вообще способен.

[h2]Итог[/h2]
Игра вызвала у меня бурю эмоций в разные моменты от положительных до отрицательных, но стала для меня глотком свежего воздуха, за что я люблю эту игру со всеми её минусами.

Oh Slave Zero X, how I wish I could actually recommend this game to someone.

TLDR: I would have put it in the middle section, but recently built pc made sure I can't play game past 3-1 which makes it into not recommend for me and my first refund, bummer.

Ok so, this game truly dangles on the line of I like it and I can't seem to enjoy this game as I hoped to for multiple reasons:
--This is the biggest issue for me that pushed me from middling review to not recommended: Complete and utter lack of updates from game where players have tons of technical issues, from frame pacing issues, stutters, low fps hangs in 3d sections where you have bunch of people troubleshooting or "works on my machine" comments. It truly never gone away even after almost 2 years post launch. I got stuck at 3-1 due to game not rendering level properly on official update, but on its beta branch it hard crashes game with an error report that has been reported by other users and apparently "fixed" even tho many people still struggle with this issue ( This issue was last touched in OCT of 2024 )
--You either already know this game or you will never play it. It is one of those niche titles that I can't even recommend it to most people, unless you really love 2d Fighting game mechanics so intrinsically that you absolutely enjoy labbing single character in training modes to learn setups inside and out. I love it and spent a lot of time practicing but even there training mode lacks severely, Shou is a finely polished character that you will spend time learning his tricks and still find more stuff even after dozens of hours, i just wish training mode was heavily expanded with move lists ( frame data? ), spawning more enemies and having more variety, give us armored enemies since I can't learn how to optimally go against them when they have their armor, more enemies would also make you learn how to parry better etc...
--Difficulty seems to have few steep corners which is fine but it heavily forces you into playing their game ( clumping them together in a corner and using secret technique often to break armor ) rather than to be this free-form-flow style of combat you may be fine with this or completely annoyed by this depending on how you handle those armored enemies with crowd of 10 or so cannon fodder

The good stuff are pretty good tho: The art style evokes heavily of something like guardian heroes on Sega Saturn with 3d backgrounds and 2d sprites, sprite animations are pretty solid for most part, voice acting is great and actually makes you interested in wanting to know more about these characters and setting ( mind you I never played original Slave Zero ), combat is pretty fluid when it clicks, juggling enemies and doing air combos is pretty fun not to mention certain bosses feel absolutely like those fighting game boss characters that have unfair advantage but they are fun in their own ways of trying to out do them.

With sadness I had to refund this game, since Im not sure I will ever be able to play this game due to technical issues, if this game ran perfectly fine it would have been a niche cult classic in years to come but not made for everyone, as it stands now and probably for foreseeable future since we had over a year of no updates Im not sure it will even run on mine or your machine for that matter.

Hopefully I will be proven wrong and devs one day decide to actually fix the troubling issues so the system requirements that were posted in the store's description are actually true and can be ran on 10+ year old potato, since even my modern pc seems to struggle.

Slave zero x is in my opinion a really good game but with some flaws that are kinda anoying.
Like i really liked the combat and in my opinion its really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good its kinda easy to understand while learning how to combo is engaginc and a little hard, i havent played the whole game but the story is fine its ok for what it is and the side romance story is ok too and ok for that it is one of my problems with the game is how many enemies can sometimes spawn and it can definetly bother some people.
the voice acting is good and the art is great(also i heard that this game is meant to be some kind of what the original slave zero is meant to be like the game originaly was meant to be like x but then for some reason they switched some stuff like the biosuits for giant robots which kinda makes me want to remake the original to fit more with the original idea and x) also my favourite characters were enyo and x

==== STORY ===
You play as Shou, a "guardian", a member from a freedom fighter group against the iron fist grip of the SovKhan. Going against your master's orders, you equip yourself with a slave, a sentient biomecha armor called "X" go outside to fight against the forces and the SovKhan and end his tyrannical rule over the world once and for all.
Simple and good enough story for what the game is in general. I think the best part of it are the characters, they are pretty interesting in general and I liked their interactions with X/Shou, helped also by a pretty decent voice acting. I just wished I could learn a bit more of some of them though. There's also worldbuilding lore in the game presented as collectibles that gives you a little glimpse of the world's history, some characters. Nothing too important but interesting nevertheless.

=== GAMEPLAY ===
You have the following as moves/abilities: you can walk, run, light attack, heavy attack, parry (I'll talk about this one later), combos, a special mode where you attack faster (and do some special combos) while recovering some HP depending on the damage you make during this state and some equipment like grenades. You can upgrade some attributes and abilities at stores that appear during stages. As typical in this kind of games, you move forward until to reach a point where you need to defeat a group of enemies; rinse and repeat until the end of the stage.

Now, here's the best and the worst part of this game: the combat.
The good: action flow is good, it's fun, most of the combos are easy enough to make, there's a good enough variety of enemies as you progress into the game.
The bad: There's a noticeable difficulty spike at a certain point in the game, can't remember in which part exactly (I think it was mid-game) but you WILL notice it xD. The damage recoil which is kinda awful, you can quickly recover from this by pressing jump (not always though, depends of the kind of attack) and also, there isn't a "no damage window" which means, if you get swarmed by enemies (and you'll usually be), you can easily become a punching bag and die a few seconds after. There's a parry mechanic which it can really help you sometimes...when it decides to work xD. Supposedly you can parry by moving the stick in the direction of the attack but it doesn't always work and it gets tricky when you get attacked in different directions. Also the combos, the game never tells you how to make them, not even in the training mode. Sure, you can find them in the Steam forums but I find it kinda weird that game keeps this vital info hidden from the player. Also, as I said before, you can easily be swarmed by enemies and, if you don't move quick enough, you'll have a bad time, especially when the games throws you sub-bosses in between the normal enemies.

=== VISUALS & SOUND ===
Another great part of the game well done imo <3.

Most of the game is presented in a mix of pixelart (your character, most enemies, effects, etc.) with 3D backgrounds that gives you a cool retro vibe in some way. There are also some illustrations that appears mostly in some cutscenes and dialogues that kinda reminds me of the work of Yoshitaka Amano from Final Fantasy so, my respect to the artist (witnesstheabsurd), keep up the great work <3.
I laso liked the sound work in general and the soundtrack too, it has a rock/retrowave style that I think goes well with the style of the game, as well with the action when it needs to.

=== FINAL THOUGHTS ===
On one hand, I really liked this game. I liked the style, the gameplay (when it works as it should <.<), the artwork/music, the characters. But, on the other hand, I really hated this game, mostly for the gameplay problems it has. I know some people stumbled with other problems with the game from what I read in other reviews but "luckily", my only problems where the ones I've mentioned here (and maybe a couple of times during the final stages where the game got stuck loading and I had to close and open again, no progress lost though).
There's a great action game here, not impossible to beat but I can hardly recommend it unless you're looking for a kinda masochist challenge xD and you're very resilient to failure and/or it's on sale. If you want to play it just for nostalgia sake because you played the original Slave Zero, I think that's valid but still, think it twice before you do.

phenomenal game with heavy flaws, not even close to being for everyone. to start with the bad; defensively you're quite weak. air teching gives you no i-frames, making you often tech into an incoming attack with little way to consistently defend yourself outside of attempting a parry or bursting. blue bursting is actively disincentivized as well, as it locks you out of your essential fatal sync loops. pair that with every late game fight being ornstein & smough if there were 58 ornsteins, and you have a game that REALLY tests your patience.

besides that? ♥♥♥♥ this game is good. PSX eyecandy artstyle, quality voice acting, sandbox combos that live up to their inspirations and reward you for learning intricaties with the video game equivalent of the free bird solo.

This yaoi ♥♥♥♥ serious.

o jogo tem uma boa historia. tem um gráfico legal e a intenção da gameplay é boa. só tem um defeito e muito grande. estou jogando o jogo na dificuldade normal, o game fica com inúmeros inimigos o qual não deixa seu personagem cair no chão e vc não tem ferramentas para quebrar isso. fica muito frustrante nos combates em que a tela enche de inimigos e todo jogo de luta tem que ter um momento que vc caia no chão para poder ter uma estratégia de sair do cerco. o personagem não cai e vc fica travado no auto perdendo vida até morrer. por isso da avaliação negativa, quando corrigirem isso e alguns bugs que são insignificantes na gameplay, eu mudo minha avaliação

I really want to love this game, but there are some elements of it that make me scratch my head.
This game is raw pure entertainment that i thought i never seen in a indie game, and even if some elements like the controls are a bit crude and unrefined the combat sistem is very addicting.

The visual and art direction is down right stellar. In a time where indie developers are always delivering crude horrors with low poly graphic, this games stands out the most as the more competent in the matter.

The story is nothing crazy but it's also nothing to dog pile on, it's good enough for this type of games and gameplay.

Even though the marketing said this game was made for fans of Devil May Cry, Guilty Gear and MGR Rising i guess, this game in execution is much closer to the classic Megaman Zero series.

I give it a 7.5 / 10
