I think Schein got a bit too much unfair criticism - note how many reviews complain about the precision platformer genre rather than the game itself.
That being said, the game's not impressive: the aesthetic can leave a bit to be desired, the environments are all pretty samey (or consistent) and I agree that the voice acting could be better (even though it did add flavor to the game), to the point I couldn't help but laugh out loud at a specific line near the end. The story is concise and I haven't found any secrets.
BUT. As a puzzle precision platformer, it delivered. The mechanics are straightforward and worked pretty well. The difficulty of both the platforming and the puzzles does not go wild at any point, and it kept the right balance between being challenging but also fun, without turning that frenetic or repetitive thanks to the fact that you'll have to hit the brakes and give some thought to the puzzles before taking action.
The progression is linear but you can easily revisit previous levels in case you want to hunt for all the collectibles. It's fairly short and it didn't overstay its welcome. I finished it before I knew it and I have to admit I ended up kind of enjoying the negative points I mentioned before; now I find Schein as a whole a pretty charming experience, slight mediocrity included.
Recommended? Very much, especially at this cheap price, but only to those into puzzles AND precision platformers.

This one is a pretty tedious mess. I was hoping for some cool brain twisters, but all the puzzles were barely puzzles at all and most of the gameplay seemed more about being as annoying as possible. The biggest problems is the light radius and a lack of information to the play as to what each layer contains. This means a lot of the issues you run into this game are due to making blind jumps and hoping you are in the correct space to not end up dead. The frustration is alleviated somewhat by a lovely soundtrack, but then you look at the pretty gross art and hear the obnoxious main character and it brings you right back into the distaste. There are dozens of puzzle platformer more worth playing, replaying, then replaying again over playing this.

Schein es un juego indie que mezcla plataformas con puzzles de manera acertada, aunque su acabado final esté lejos de otros juegos del género.
Gráficamente está bastante logrado, dando la sensación de ser una especie de Limbo a color. La mezcla de los colores y su iluminación (en especial con los colores verde, rojo y azul) es acertada. Los paisajes de fondo no son demasiado variados ni llamativos, pero crean una buena ambientación teniendo en cuenta que toda la aventura transcurrirá en una ciénaga.
La música no destaca demasiado, simplemente cumple, sin molestar, con un ritmo más bien pausado pero agradable y acorde con el ambiente tenebroso del pantano.
La jugabilidad es buena, pues en seguida aprenderemos a manejar al personaje con soltura, y el uso de las llamas de colores para ver otras dimensiones lo iremos dominando poco a poco a medida que las vayamos consiguiendo. Sin embargo, en las zonas de plataformeo se nos requerirá en ocasiones de una gran fineza en los saltos ajustados que no se corresponde con la fineza en el control del personaje. Es decir, y este es un punto negativo del título, los controles son intuitivos pero poco afinados y en los saltos milimétricos que se requieren en ocasiones veremos como acabamos en el fondo de la ciénaga con la sensación de no haber sido culpa nuestra sino de un control que falta depurar.
La dificultad no es demasiado elevada, aunque tiene algunos picos puntuales. En las zonas de plataformeo más complicadas ya he comentado el problema con los controles. En el caso de los puzzles, sí hay que admitir que están muy bien pensados y tienen una resolución lógica que denotan el trabajo depositado en ellos.
La durabilidad es de aproximadamente 20 horas de juego si quieres conseguir todos los logros. Esto no debería ser un problema para los jugadores experimentados. El juego cumple en este aspecto también.
En definitiva, un título entretenido y bastante bien pensado, con puzzles excelentes, pero con un control que haría falta afinar para estar a la altura de otros juegos del género. El final del juego, eso sí, me ha parecido bastante lamentable. Sin gracia e intentando ser profundo pero transmitiendo poco al jugador. Al menos esa es la sensación de "quiero y no puedo" que me ha dado, para culminar una historia ya de por sí bastante simplona.

Я много сложных игр проходил, в том числе и пазл-игр, но вот такого типа мне не нравятся. Да и визуально кривовато. Для меня это 6 из 10. Но так как внизу отзыва написано рекомендую ли Я ее, то мой ответ - да. Попробуй, может тебе зайдет.

Una aventura en 2.5D, realmente tediosa y con puzzles muy frustrantes, Lo unico rescatable la Mecanica de la linterna (de cambiar entre 3 colores y dejarlas en el piso para que den luz), Esquivar hiedras y no caerse al agua y Pasar a traves de algunas paredes o muros estrategicamente puestos para que tengas que cambiar entre el mundo apagado y el colorido.
Ademas de la batalla final y pasar por esas plataformas con rodamientos que abrian algunas puertas de otra dimension.

El juego es lindo estetica y visualmente, sonidos, musica y ambientacion no estan mal a mi criterio, pero con un lore pobre e inentendible (por que no sabes ni de que trata lo que el hombre y la mujer dicen), hacen que no pueda recomendarlo.

The 2nd phase of the first boss (thorny plants) was really annoying. and its really different from i've seen on walkthrough video.
there is this obstacle bar that blocking my spiky bar to drop onto the boss while on walkthrough there is no obstacle.
overall i enjoyed the game despite the differencies. 7/10
EDIT: nevermind. i finally defeated the thorny boss. the spiky bar can goes through the obstacle bar. dang devs they really got me for 15 minutes lol to figured it out.
[b]Schein[/b] не самый хардкорный платформер, пройти его вполне можно, и процесс действительно затягивает. Причём интерес вызывает не сюжет (он быстро разгадывается), а именно геймплей: переключение между несколькими мирами с помощью света выглядит очень круто и красочно (насколько это возможно в тёмном болоте).
Но всё равно игру нельзя назвать простой: управление в меру деревянное, иногда пересечение света от нескольких источников может вести себя непредсказуемо, а жизнь и очередную смерть зачастую разделяют миллиметры. И я бы мог предположить, что у кого-то настолько развита реакция, вот только её тут недостаточно, так как нужно учитывать не только отображаемые в данный момент на экране элементы, но и другие слои локации, которые невидимы до момента переключения между ними. Это просто взрывало мой мозг!
Поэтому лично я получил больше удовольствия от этапов, на которых игра делала акцент не на скорости и многоцветных прыжках, а на головоломках. Они действительно радуют своей сложностью и изяществом.
Улучшить бы ещё немного сюжет (или убрать его совсем?), и было бы совсем хорошо.
P.S. Достижение в 50 смертей за игру мне кажется нереальным, так как я на одном уровне иногда умирал большее количество раз! Поэтому я считаю, что автор оставил нам подсказку, назвав это достижение "Cheating Death", IYKWIM.

Schein es un indie plataformero y "puzzlero" en el que tomamos el papel de un padre que va en busca de su hijo desaparecido en un pantano, alli nos encontraremos a una especie de fuego fatuo que sera nuestra guia durante todo el trayecto de los niveles, esta puede ser cambiada de diferentes luces para pasar por la plataformas que requieran tal color.

+ La idea de agregarle las capas de colores para ir cambiando para pasar las plataformas es interesante, (aunque a medida que avancemos esto se va haciendo un poco tedioso)

- La historia pudo haber resultado buena, pero termina siendo un desastre, con un final muy malo.
- Tu peor enemigo es el salto del personaje, es renegar y renegar y renegar hasta que milimetricamente acertas.
- Diria que los checkpoints estan mal ubicados, en las partes extremadamente sencillas estan cada 2 pasos, y en las partes frustrantes estan a un kilometro.

От Schein, глядя на количество наград ожидаешь какого-то откровения, всё таки в аннотации есть параллельные миры, сложнейшие головоломки и титул самого хардкорного платформера года. На деле поиск отцом сына превращается в тупое заучивание мира игры наизусть, а все сопутствующие реальности отличаются цветом и наличием/отсутствием ловушек. Самая главная проблема Schein, что действительно сложные и интересные пазлы не работают по причине кривого управления и гигантизма вашего персонажа. Главный герой высокий и неуклюжий, следовательно его хитбокс занимаем много места на экране, и там где нужно лавировать между препятствиями вы будете очень часто умирать. Ближе к финалу Schein зачем то пытается превратиться в скоростной экшен и все перечисленные проблемы полностью убивают положительные впечатления. Единственный плюс - битвы с боссами, несмотря на их сложность, ключики к победе искать интересно. Проходить для сбора всех достижений придётся дважды, в общей сложности у меня это заняло 8 часов, причём второй заход длился всего 120 минут. В итоге получаем абсолютный проходняк с завышенными претензиями и соответственно ожиданиями. Оценку поставлю 6.0 за несколько действительно удачных головоломок.

+ Very unique and interesting graphics style, whole level design has 4 different dimensions or whatever you call them, even through each of them are mostly re-skins each looks great and a bit different, it feels very well done.
+ Collectables unlock some short text dialogues. They are challenging to get, very satisfying.
- Some weird performance. Game automatically starts lagging a bit after playing for half hour and lag keeps increasing the more you play. After 1h of playtime game lags unplayably. If I quit the game it runs very smoothly again and always starts lagging after I play a bit. It sucks I have to restart the game every 30 minutes. This issue has been mentioned by many players, yet there's no better fix other than keep restarting the game as far as I know.
- Final boss battle is cryptic and a really hard pain in the ass, it's really unfair 1. Cryptic, I had to play for half hour until figured out how to beat him 2. In his last form he starts shooting "invisible" projectiles, they look like water so they are almost invisible. 3. It's pretty much trial and error kind of battle, every step requires perfect play. Still, I must admit that it's great that it saves after every hit you make on that boss, otherwise I couldn't imagine myself ever beating it.

The core game mechanic of [b]Schein[/b] is using colored light to make certain elements of the game world appear or disappear. You have your own guiding light, which can be turned on or off in three different colors. The guiding light can be left behind in any location and called back to you from afar. There are sometimes several additional colored lamps, which you can carry around, put in strategic places, and when lamps are destroyed they respawn (which is sometimes used as a game mechanic). There are platforms popping in and out of existence depending on the ambient light near them, sometimes platforms start to move in response to light sources close a switch point. Sometimes several light sources need to be put close together and it can matter in which order you put the lamps in their place. All this makes for some pretty complex puzzles. Some sections involve fast moving platforms and hazards which require a rapid succession of many well-timed button clicks – make one mistake and you have to start the sequence all over again. Fortunately, after completing nearly every puzzle there is a checkpoint.
I enjoyed playing Schein very much, it is a nicely balanced package of puzzles solving and platforming. It reminded me of the game Hue. The final boss fight, however, was not so nice – it took me over an hour to figure out how to fight it, which is far from obvious. Not gonna spoil anything here, but as soon as you have figured it out, it is not so difficult to beat.
The graphics are cute and cartoon-like, but the game world is perhaps a bit too crisp and clear – I think it would have looked better if the unlit parts of the game world were a bit darker and misty. The story is about a father looking for his lost some in a swamp – but the story does not add much depth to the game. The atmospheric soundtrack is actually pretty good, but the voice acting is less so (especially the annoying grunts when dying). I really wanted to like Schein, but the excellent concept for this platformer was unfortunately overwhelmed by desperately poor voice acting, long and tedious platforming sequences with finicky tuning, and slow pacing overall.
There is a ton of creativity in this game, and a lot of the artwork is stunning, but it just feels cumbersome (not fun) to grind my way from save point to save point. Precision timing is required to succeed, but not in a fun way.
I don't regret picking this game up on sale for $1.34 to try it, but the repetitive and unpolished gameplay mean that I can't recommend Schein. I should note that there is a free demo available for this game - I'd recommend trying the controls out before you spend your money.
Schein, while visually remotely resembling a blurry version of Braid, falls completely behind mechanically as a puzzle platforming game.
It plays like Super Meat Boy without speed. You will keep dying and dying until you have memorized the outlay of all traps and will have to battle with the extremely limited jumping height and distance of the character model more often than actually having to find out what to do. Additionally the visible area of the different lights - the main mechanic of the game - is infuriatingly narrow, meaning that even with the already slow movement of the player model, you'll be required to take things even more slowly.
This was an absolutely tedious and bothersome completion for me. Can't recommend, not to puzzle platforming enthusiasts and especially not to anyone else.
I must admit that about halfway through the game I was already out of patience and ready to say bad things about this game and hoping it would end soon. Schein has some good ideas, the lights mechanic, some puzzles are really challenging, the battle against the last boss has a very interesting dynamics and the system to go back through the areas of the map to solve the puzzles. But everything in it, for some reason, became repetitive and tiring in such a fast way that it made the game lose its fun. In the end, when I killed the last boss, I was relieved, because I was finally going to stop playing this game. What I believe has happened is that the people who did Schein had good ideas, plenty of motivation and a lot of creativity, but what they lacked was financial resources to be able to create a better game.

Больше бреда на экране и “схавают!”, а если не сработает, то можно с глубокомысленным видом нести ересь о том, что все так и задумано, а все кругом невежды и ограниченные идиoты, которым не дано понять сакральный смысл. Но никому не нравится, когда из них делают дураков.
Откуда у Schein столько наград и положительных рецензий? Это один из самых скучных платформеров на моей памяти. Серый, блеклый, чрезмерно медлительный, с абсолютно неуместной музыкой и бессвязным сюжетом. Очередной студенческий проект, которому по непонятной причине дали добро на выход в свет. Идея хоть и не нова, но все же заслуживает внимания, но ее исполнение бездарно профукано. Переключение между мирами могло бы стать захватывающим приключением, если бы эти миры отличались друг от друга. Но разница между ними лишь в том, что в одном вас поджидают коварные колючие стебли, а в другом не менее коварные столпы пламени. Третий мир, к слову, даже не потрудился хоть чем-то выделиться, в нем нет никакой особенности, кроме цветовой гаммы. И все это назвали “самым сложным платформером’. Издатели явно не страдают пороком скромности.
А секрет “сложности” крайне прост – Schein использует грязный прием, который в свое время использовали Battletoads, I Wanna Be the Guy, Limbo и т.д. Суть его – зaдрaчивaть, пока пальцы не отвалятся. Это не проверка реакции, не оттачивание навыков, это просто выучивание уровней на зубок. Игра подразумевает, что вы никоим образом не сможете пройти ее без смертей в первый раз. Ваш герой умирает снова и снова, и снова, пока механическая память не сделает свое дело. Вот только худая овчинка выделки не стоит. Реиграбельность в данном случае просто нулевая, ибо перепрохождение ничего вам не даст. Ну, кроме, разве что, скупой насмешки оттого, что теперь требуется лишь пара секунд на то, на что уходили драгоценные десятки минут.
Впервые я чувствую досаду, потому что с первого взгляда это действительно выглядело привлекательно и интересно. И можно было бы даже простить эти совершенно нечестные головоломки, если бы игра имела хотя бы интересную историю. Да хоть бы какую-нибудь историю! Но все, что мы имеем, это описание к самой игре в магазине. Ни больше, ни меньше. Непривередливым сгодится. А я не порекомендую.

Great mix of reflex-intensive platforming and puzzle solving that revolves around different colors and what exists around them. Some areas can get really difficult, in a good way. I love it.

despues de picarme con este juego desquiciante,desafiante y complicado llegar a un final sin sentido sin una recompensa gratificante me ha decantado a no recomendarlo.
Vor 10 Jahren habe ich das Spiel gekauft. Seitdem installiere ich es ab und an, spiele es vielleicht eine Stunde und bin dann frustriert. Dieses Spiel ist einfach nichts ganzes und nichts halbes.
Die Idee ist erstmal ganz gut. Man sucht seinen Sohn oder so (das Intro ist schon 10 Jahre her ;) und hat dazu mehrere Lichter zur Verfügung die durch ihr Licht andere "Dimensionen" anzeigen. Dabei sind diese nicht nur sichtbar, sondern man kann interagieren. Perfekt also für ein Puzzlespiel. Hier in Form eines Platformers. Soweit so gut, aber schnell fängt Schein an zu nerven. Könnte man über einige misslungene Rätsel noch hinwegsehen, ist das Spiel auch sehr actionlastig. Leider aber in Verbindung mit versteckten Hindernissen. So muss man dann ständig zwischen den Lampen hin- und herschalten und neue Objekte suchen bzw. dies verstecken. So kämpft man sich dann Objekt um Objekt voran und stirbt immer und immer wieder. Leider wird dieser Part durch die endlos schlechte Steuerung so frustrierend, dass es irgendwann keinen Spaß mehr macht. Und so zieht es sich nun viele Jahre bei mir hin, dass ich Schein beenden will. Es macht einfach aufgrund der schlechten Entwicklung keinen Spaß! Hier hätte man an so vielen Stellen optimieren können und müssen. Die Trägheit der Figur, die Physik der beweglichen Platformen in Verbindung mit dem Spieler, die viel zu lange Dauer zwischen Tod und erster Bewegung.
Schließlich gibt's noch den Sound und die Grafik. Leider beides nicht besonders gut. Der Grafikstil ist stimmig, aber oft fehlt etwas. Das Dauergrinsen bei rot nervt mich übrigens auch etwas und irgendwie scheint zwischen normal und rot ein Offset zu sein. Die Hintergrundmusik ist belanglos, dafür dass damals ständig von Leed:Audio geredet wurde. Die Sprache/Story nervt sogar teilweise und kommt auch dann, wenn man sich teils konzentrieren muss. Gut - ich schreib das gerade wieder in der Frustphase. Aber wenn ich andere Reviews lese, bin ich nicht der einzige ;-)
Update: Nun habe ich es endlich geschafft. Man merkt deutlich, dass man nach hinten immer weniger Lust hatte. Nur noch wenig Rätsel, dafür ziemlich schwierig und durchgehend Trial&Error. Die Musik wird immer anstrengender und der Endboss ist grafisch sehr mies gemacht.

İlk başta basit ve sürekli kazanacağın oyunlardan zannettim ancak bir kaç bölüm sonra zorluk öyle bir hale geliyor ki, oyun kolunu kırmamak elde değil :sadness:
Sadece oynanış zorluğu da değil aynı zamanda çözmeniz gereken yerler hatta hem çözüp hem de dikkatli oynamak gerekiyor.
Hikayesi o kadar iyi değil ama oynanış keyifli olduğu için sıkmıyor.

Un platform tra i più interessanti che abbia mai giocato. Ha momenti veloci e momenti in cui è necessario fermarsi a riflettere per risolvere i puzzle. Un audio molto azzeccato. Assolutamente consigliato.

Spiel startet nichtmehr richtig. Sobald ich das Spiel starte ist nurnoch ein weißer Kasten zu sehen. Auf Screenshots jedoch sieht man ganz normal das Spiel. Egal was ich tue der Bildschirm verändert sich nicht. Habe schon 2 mal das Spiel neu installiert, hat jedoch nicht geholfen

Геймплей основан на переключении между разноцветными источниками света - зелёными, красными, синими. Каждый из них как-то изменяет область, которую освещает: добавляет или убирает платформы (и их части), ловушки, переключатели, реагирующие только на этот свет и т.п.
В начале доступен только слабый зелёный свет, позже он усиливается (освещает большую область), постепенно открываются новые цвета, появляются переносные лампочки... На манипуляциях со всем этим строится множество паззлов, зачастую довольно креативно эксплуатирующих особенности механики (например, взаимодействие лампочек разного цвета и силы между собой). Решение практически всегда оказывается несложным (хотя иногда требует довольно длинной последовательности действий), но часто заставляет задуматься и действовать нестандартно. До уровня Braid, пожалуй, не дотягивает, но уже очень и очень достойно.
Промежутки же между паззлами заполнены весьма активным платформингом, нещадно эксплуатирующим всё ту же механику. Это самая сложная часть игры, некоторые участки просто-таки нереально хардкорны. Например, приходится два раза переключать свет за время одного короткого прыжка, точно приземляться на движущуюся платформу, существующую только в одном из цветовых "миров", и тут же совершать следующий прыжок в таком же духе. Практически все мои претензии - именно к этой части: слишком уж точного расчёта она требует, учитывая, что половину действий приходится выполнять буквально вслепую (не видя платформы, на которую нужно прыгнуть, и не имея возможности "подглядеть", т.к. это убьёт другую платформу, на которой ты сейчас стоишь). В общем, умирать приходится много и постоянно, постепенно запоминая последовательность действий, необходимых для выживания, и тренируя координацию, чтобы наконец правильно её исполнить. Тем не менее, процесс очень затягивает. Особенно под хорошую музыку (а она здесь хорошая).
Также в игре, конечно, есть боссы, совмещающие в себе паззл и экшен одновременно. Но они-то как раз в плане платформинга далеко не так сложны, как некоторые "обычные" игровые отрезки - гораздо сложнее бывает сообразить, что именно и как нужно делать, чтобы их победить.
В целом, такая комбинация паззлового и платформенного хардкора, конечно, подойдёт не всем (настройки сложности для вечно не успевающих здесь бы очень не помешали, но, увы, как всегда отсутствуют). Но это одна из лучших попадавшихся мне подобных игр, так что ценителям жанра рекомендую однозначно.

Schein is a great platformer, including puzzles, and an interesting story. I also liked the art style and the voice acting very much. They create a unique atmosphere.
Schein fue desarrollado por Zeppelin Studios, empezando como un proyecto para la universidad, para luego convertirse en un juego completo, ganando múltiples aclamaciones tanto por la prensa como por el público en general y sinceramente no entiendo por qué.
Empezando por el principio: Schein es un plataforma puzzle que tiene una muy fuerte inspiración en Limbo y nos cuenta la historia de un hombre que busca a su hijo en un pantano, para hacerlo cuenta con la ayuda de una pequeña flama (la irrlicht) que nos ayudará a lo largo de la aventura. Las mecánicas entonces están en resolver puzzles y secciones de plataforma, muchas veces combinándose. Estás secciones se resuelven usando las 3 tipos de luces que tiene el juego: verde, rojo y azul, que iremos adquiriendo al avanzar y son nuestra principal arma para avanzar en la historia.
Hablando de lo positivo (porque acabo antes): la ambientación es buena, el pantano está bien logrado y hasta hay cortos ciclos de lluvia que brinda realismo al ambiente y la paleta de colores si bien no es de mi agrado, esta muy bien. Además los puzzles son muy buenos y realmente desafiantes, me hicieron pensar bastante en su resolución y me gustaron aunque no soy muy fan de ese tipo de puzzles. Se basan en su mayoría en activar mecanismos que dependen de un tipo de luz para que podamos seguir avanzando. Por último la música es buena, aunque no va muy bien con el juego.
Tristemente es lo mejor que puedo decir, y más triste es decir que todas sus cosas positivas se ven opacadas por todo lo malo que tiene. Para empezar, hablaré del punto más grave: el plataformeo. El plataformeo en Schein es asqueroso, en serio, pocas veces he jugado un juego PLATAFORMA con tan mal plataformeo, nos vamos a morir y morir porque el personaje no salta como queremos y por si fuera poco, cada luz (que son un mundo en sí mismas) tienen peligros que solo son visibles si la tenemos activadas. Esto es malo porque hay varias secciones de plataforma en que debemos ir cambiando de luz para avanzar, pero a veces es casi imposible saber si hay peligro al cambiar de luz, pero aún si lo sabemos, Schein es uno de esos juegos de insta-kill, es decir, si te toca te mueres y deja muy poco margen de error por lo que debemos ir calculando los saltos hasta pasarlos. Se vuelve muy frustrante y más que plataforma es un ensayo y error. Pero además la distribución de los checkpoints es irregular, hay veces que después de un sencillo puzzle o una corta acción plataforma hay un checkpoint, pero otras veces pasan varios puzzles o largas y difíciles secciones plataforma, antes de encontrar uno, aumentando la frustración.
Quiero hablar de un nivel del juego llamado "Speed of life" porque resume bien el problema de Schein ya que es una larga sección plataforma sin ningún puzzle. Considero que esta sección es al mismo tiempo la mejor y la peor del juego. Me explico: en un plataforma bien hecho esta sección sería extremadamente divertida, porque la idea es genial y el nivel desafiante, pero en Schein solo es frustrante. He leído a muchos decir que el juego es difícil pero no, Schein no es un plataforma difícil, es uno frustrante y todo por su pésimo sistema de salto, exige mucho del jugador ofreciendo muy poco. Me parece bien que quisieran hacer un juego más difícil que el promedio pero esta NO es la forma.
Otra cuestión (ridícula) es que al morir perdemos lo que hicimos antes de agarrar un checkpoint, incluyendo las partes de los coleccionables. Cada nivel tiene 5 partes de un coleccionable, debemos agarrar todas las partes para formar dichos coleccionables y como imaginaran, algunas de esas partes son de acceso complicado. Pues bien, no se les ocurra morir antes de un checkpoint porque si mueren pierden esa parte y deben volver a agarrarla. No sé si eso ocurre por alguna limitación o realmente lo hicieron así pero de cualquier modo: ¡es estúpido! Entiendo que destruya nuestro progreso en el puzzle si morimos ¿pero nuestro coleccionable? ¿Por qué hacer eso? ¡Es un coleccionable! No afecta en nada al juego y solo agrega una dificultad innecesaria.
Schein además es un juego narrado y las únicas voces son la del hombre (nosotros) y la irrlicht. Las actuaciones de voz son mediocres, el actor de voz creo quiso dar un tono entre depresivo y desesperanzado pero solo logró que su personaje se escuche como que tiene flojera, se siente poco realista y desconectado del juego; por otra parte la actriz de voz de la irrlicht lo hace ligeramente mejor pero no por mucho, sonando muy dramática cuando quiere sonar arrogante. Es algo difícil de explicar en palabras pero no lo hacen bien, hubiese preferido que solo me pongan el texto y yo imaginarme las voces. Además las animaciones son pocas (no hay animación de muerte), no voy a ser exigente con un juego indie pero sí, me hubiese gustado ver un poco más de expresión.
Ah, y el final de la historia es una basura.
En conclusión Schein es un mal juego, en el mejor de los casos: muy frustrante. Y eso me entristece porque la idea de usar 3 tipos de luces para sus puzzles es fantástica y dichos puzzles son muy buenos y desafiantes, me hubiese gustado que solo sean puzzles porque eso SÍ lo hace muy bien o igual mejorar su plataformeo y hacerlo meramente plataforma (porque también tiene buenas ideas en su plataforma) pero tal y como es no lo recomiendo. Solo se lo recomiendo a quien esté dispuesto a pasar horrible plataforma por buenos puzzles. Creo que la mejor forma que tengo de resumir a Schein es: un par de buenas ideas enterradas bajo un montón de pésimas decisiones.
Una lástima que la luz no brillara al final del pantano.

You'll find a nice gloomy atmosphere, good puzzles and hard platforming.
The game consists in solve puzzles while jumping platforms. It's insane in some parts. Creatively uses the game's light mechanics to blend the hand-drawn assets of the four worlds, as well as somehow incorporating a 3D model without it looking really out of place.
It's inevitable not remember [i]LIMBO[/i]. It's very easy to die in [i]Schein[/i], like in [i]LIMBO[/i], though [i]Schein[/i] doesn't quite have the same pathos to the main character's death.
The game has a good level of difficulty in some parts. Hard sometimes. The platform of the game can be a bit frustrating for ones, and challenging for others. You'll die a lot. But it's a good difficulty. I really liked this game.

the savepoints are much to far away and the collection stuff isnt save, when you dont reach next savepoint. refund this, because there are much better platformers out there.
One of the best puzzle platformer I have ever played. You will need a lot of patience if your jumping skills are as bad as mine. But you will get rewarded with really nice puzzle design.
I wasn't really motivated by the trailer but I definitively don't regret my purchase. This game has a fun gameplay, pretty graphics and offers challenging puzzles to resolve. A very good surprise!
- Gameplay : the game is a platform/enigms one. The main gameplay mechanism is to use magic lights to reveal elements (platforms, triggers but also obstacles :-P ), invisible to the unaided eye. You have to use these lights to resolve puzzles and make your way out. Other gameplay mechanisms will appear through your journey. Easy at the beginning, the puzzles become more and more tricky (I spent 30min on one of them...ahem). The game also offers pure platform moments, asking you to be quick and to coordinately use the good light at the good time. The difficulty is well-dosed, not too easy but not for hardcore gamers.
- Graphics : in a general way, the graphics are pretty. I am not the most qualified to judge graphics but it seems ok to me. A funny and good idea is that each light changes the appearance of the character and the scene. For example, the first light reveals the better in each element and your character appears younger and prettier. It was funny to see how the background appearance changes with each light.
- Scenario : to me, the weakest point of the game. The game is defined by its gameplay rather by its story. But it is the same for other good games such as Limbo. Maybe the most motivated persons would see in the story some paraboles I didn't notice.
- Life expectancy : this game took me 4-5h to be finished. Some collectibles to find will expand the journey.
To conclude : an interesting and challenging game. If you see it with a price reduction, don't hesitate and buy it!

It's a puzzle plattformer similar to Limbo, but in a somewhat different light. The like the basic mood of the game, which serves as a backdrop for the different 'lights'. I usually play it in 'offline mode' when traveling or if I have to wait somewhere. I often get interested looks or questions by the folks around me, so the first impression seems work quite well for this game.
Three things I consider essential to a storytelling puzzle plattformer, all are very strong points of Schein:
- The savepoints are very fair and you don't have to replay a lot if you fail (and you will).
- The cutscenes/dialogues are made in such a way, that they do not interfere with the puzzles. So you don't have to listen to them again and again. Together with the first point this gets you back to the puzzle quickly.
- The jumps 'feel right' with respect to speed and height.
Este juego es complicado ya que requiere inteligencia y destreza debido que pertenece a un genero mixto plataformas y puzzle,de estetica obscura,poco puedo decir debido al poco tiempo invertido,pero es bastante curioso dentro del mundillo indie,seguramente lo retome algun día...saludos lo voy a editar,eso si no se cuando,o recomiedno desde luego una joya que brilla por luz propia de extrañeza muy bella

50% des Spiels ist schnell bewältigt, danach geht es nur noch mit viel Ausdauer, haufenweisen Toden, schnellstmöglichen Reaktionen und viel zu schnellen Spielaktionen. Habe bei 60% das Handtuch geworfen. Ist einfach zu schwer.
Wer ne kranke Herausforderung sucht, ist hier genau richtig.

Die Grundidee ist imo richtig gut.
Es sieht auch optisch sehr nett aus.
Ich stehe auf anspruchsvolle Puzzlegames. Dieses Spiel hat anspruchsvolle Puzzles, die ich auch sehr gut finde.
Leider ist der Rest echt für A*****
Neben den guten Puzzles gibt es:
Trial und Errorpassagen ohne Ende, die extrem nerven. Man stirtbt 1000 (!!!) mal im Spiel!
Aneinanderreihung von Sprüngen, die perfekt getimt werden müssen, was aufgrund der nicht ganz optimalen Steuerung erschwert wird.
Das Spiel erfordert extrem gute Reaktionsfähigkeit um in Millisekunden zwischen den unterschiedlichen Lichtern hin- und herzuschalten.
Schade, die Idee ist sehr gut. Wenn man daraus ein ruhiges Puzzle Game gemacht hätte, wäre es ein 9 / 10
So kann ich keine Wertung abgeben, da ich nach ca. 60 % abbrechen musste, weil ich das Timing nicht beherrschte, um im Spiel weiterzukommen.
Jogo bem interessante e com puzzles bem legais. A idéia do game de levar o lado negro e o lado bom em modos definidos como "luz" foi bem interessante e faz com que o personagem se pergunte qual o lado real depois de tanto tempo nas sombras. Para os amantes de jogos indie e aventura é um jogo que vale a pena ter na biblioteca e se aventurar nos lugares e challenges mais escondidos que tem. :D

Uno degli indie con più acclamazioni e premi dello scorso anno e tutti assolutamente meritati: è una vera gemma, nonché la dimostrazione tangibile insieme a Fez che il puzzle platform è un genere vivo e vegeto, con sonora pernacchia annessa a chi sostiene il contrario e sforna shooters su shooters ed open world che sfociano in un grindfest tutti allo stesso modo.
Stile grafico sublime (difficile battere in questo mostri limitatamente agli indipendenti come Braid o Limbo, beh ci sono riusciti), gameplay senza sbavature e con un tasso di sfida bello grosso (volendo essere proprio pignoli solo la boss battle finale ha un pattern molto criptico che però quando scoperto poi la rende facilissima), OST orchestrale che risalta perfettamente lo stato di vera e propria angoscia che si prova andando avanti nel gioco e con un climax finale assurdo. Non raggiunge la perfezione solo per una trama di base di una banalità che fa proprio a cazzotti con l'evidente mole di lavoro per la ricerca e la cura stilistica data al gioco. Consigliato caldamente, non ve lo dovete perdere!
A great puzzle platformer in a dark swamp setting. You carry different-colored lights, at most one of them can be active at a time, and they change the environment (what you can't see, can't hurt you -- but it also won't help you).
The animations aren't that great and yes, there are platformers with better graphics, but the mechanics are great and so is the overall atmosphere. I highly recommend it if you like puzzle platformers.
Learn to die and die to learn. Toggle different realities (colored lanterns) on and off to make your way through. Take leaps of faith and switch realities while airborne. Failures are just a way to learn the patterns. A good run feels like a choreographed dance. Even the frustrating parts are fun. [disclaimer: this may have something to do with the fact that I've been away from my Steam games for eight months!] Great Indie Game at 75% off.

Bardzo słaba gra.
I can't recommend this game. Sadly!
It looks great. I like the stile of the game. I also like the idea behind it.
And I love platformers.
But this game just have no flow. It plays very unintuitive, because the controlls reacts... strange... can't describe it.
It also feels as the game was made for a smaller player character. You often die because ONE of your polygons hits a spike.... or another platforme... and so you fall into the swamp.
The difficulty is not very high actually. You jump over platforms, try to avoid spikes and the water and use the light to see other paths and dangerous things. That could be really fun, but it gets boring very very fast.
And then it gets frstrating... cause your character seems to be too big and cause you often don't know what to do and where to jump. (I hate blind jumps -.-)
tldr;

- the idea with the light orb that lets you see another world is great

Don't pay more than 2€ for this game. So buy it in a sale if you whish to...
But if you really want to enjoy a platformer or a jump n run, there are many others, which will bring you way more fun. ;)
What could have been a lovely clever platformer was, unfortunatelly, turned into a series of long, inexplicably tedious jumping sequences that is all about split-second timing.
If you are a hardcore platformers fan, though, you may want to get this one while the discount lasts ;)
By the way, Schein includes trading cards, although (as of writing this review) it doesn't say so on the Store Page.
This game is addictive. Especially for puzzle/platformer lovers. I really enjoyed the challenges this game offers. The thing I liked the most about this game is sometimes you have to be precise about timing when you are solving the puzzles.
Pros:

- Progressive difficulty on levels (except one or two parts, but it's no such a big deal)

- Game ending, story-wise and gameplay-wise, is not original (Reminded me so much of another game that I cannot mention here)
遊戲透過綠光來看另一個世界 整體來說還不賴
I'd not read anything about this previously, but I thought I'd get it on an impulse purchase, and I'm glad I did. The comparisons between Braid and Limbo are obvious but fair (Braid style graphics with Limbo style ambiance), also throwing in a bit of Nihilumbra, but where it really stands out is the lamp mechanism it uses. A recommended platform puzzler.
Charming little puzzler that does a lot of things right, but some wrong. In general the idea is that you manipulate light around you to reveal and mix different worlds so you can overcome obstacles. The concept works great and allows for some difficult brain twisters. The puzzles are challanging but also rewarding once you get past them.
Graphics are decent, nothing impressive to me, in fact if anything I would say the game feels bit unpolished there but given its an indie game I'm not taking that as a con. It didn't bother me. Couple of things that did bother me though:
- Unless you shed the appropriate light color you won't know whats there. This may not seem like a problem at first, but there will be many sequences where you have to navigate tight spaces switching lights and you will die many times because you switched the light too soon or too late and there is no way for you to know until you try (and die). Game that does this much better as an example is Fly'n where you have shadows of the other world.
- The game tries to do a decent job at introducing you to different things you can do, but doesn't hold your hand. This means if you are particularly resourceful you may overcome some obstacles in a non intended way and never learn what new mechanics you were supposed to pick up until you get stuck much later, because you never learned it. Other things you never tried or had to try until you are stuck 30min on the same puzzle and discover "Hey! This is possible?! That would have saved me hours had I just known!"
The story is non fairly shallow, not going to say more about it. Overall it was a nice journey and I would still recommend just be prepared for some (good) frustration. 7.5/10

Schein is a fun little platforming game. It reminds me of LIMBO with the dark gloomy shading. The difference is you have lights which, depending if they're on or not, show you different platforms and methods to get through the puzzles. They brighten the world and show how beautiful it really is through all the gloom.
Be advised, Braid, Bridge, 8bitboy, and Schein all have performance issues with windows 8.
Anyway, this is a game I should be enjoying, but for some reason it's not. Windows 8 may be one reason but I think there is more to it than that.
I may upgrade my computer to windows 7 in the summer, perhaps then it will be possible for me to like this game.
UPDATE: I found a fix for the performance issues that 2D games tend to have on windows 8, it fixed the performance of all games..... except this one. I'm sorry, but this game is just bad, avoid it.
"Schein" is a very good looking game with intense music and a beautiful and interesting landscape. Also the character is very good and you are very fast in the right mood for a good game with an interesting story.

This game is just frustating... It is not possible to beat this game without a few hundred, or maybe thousand times dying. I beat the game to 50% and my deathcounter score is 452. There is no chance to make most of the the jumping passages in one run, without falling and dying. You have to die many times in one jumping passage, even to know, what you have to do next. This is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and there are other ways to make a game interesting or difficult. This game is not very difficult, it is just unfair. And it lags many times, so that it is impossible to time your jumps or lights changes right. And then... of course - you die. This is what this game is all about. Just to frustate you with unfair and impossible to make it in one run, jumping passages. Maybe this game could be good, but the producers just had no idea how to make a game difficult without being this ♥♥♥♥ like "Schein".
So don't buy this piece of ♥♥♥♥.

Really!!! Hands off. This game is one of the badest games I've ever played. And I've played many bad games.
First of, I need to mention the pros about this game:
- very nice design (the first thing that captured me about it)
- the game mechanics are built upon a good idea I guess
- the story is so-so. The protagonist is trying to find his son with the help of a fairy like being that generally converses with him on the way through a magical swamp. Other than that, it's not too clear what's happening.
Now, the cons:
- Though based upon a good idea, the game mechanics are not enjoyable.
- The game mostly consists of jumping and platforming puzzles utilizing the special fairy lights gained during the story (green, red, blue) and they main problem is that they get annoying fast, so much so that the frustration ruined the whole game for me within an hour of playtime.
- In addition the moving and jumping mechanics are clunky. It's like the guy is moving in a suit full of lead.
- The check points are not exactly placed in accordance with the difficulty of the areas (I would consider the game's difficulty to be hard in general).
Conclusively, if you don't like hard and frustrating platforming puzzles I don't recommend buying this game. If you do...I'd rather suggest "Super Meat Boy": :D

Though the game itself might be not heavily polished, the design of its puzzles is absolutely gorgeous!
Kein Review zu Schein in deutscher Sprache sagt Steam mir. Nun das lässt sich ändern.
Auf Schein bin ich gestossen, als ich eine Interviewfolge des Insert-moin-Podcasts dazu mit einer der Entwickelrinnen gehört habe, der mich doch neugierig gemacht hat. Ein Puzzle-Platformer mit Lichtspielereien von einem deutschsprachigen Team (Österreicher) klang für mich auf jeden Fall interessant. Und genau das bekommt man auch. 4Players beschreibt es als Mischung aus Limbo, Giana Sisters: twisted Dreams und Braid. Das alle drei Spiele zu meiner Sammlung zählen und ich alle mag, habe ich dann meiner Neugier nachgegeben und zugeschlagen.
Nach viereinhalb Stunden bin ich laut spielinterner Fortschrittsanzeige zur Hälfte durch, deswegen hier ein - vorläufiges -
Review mit meinen Eindrücken: Die oben genannten Referenzspiele haben wohl alle miteinander Pate gestanden, ich möchte noch eines hinzufügen, nämlich Closure, ein, wie sollte es anders sein, Puzzle-Platformer, in dem nur der Teil der Spielwelt existiert, der von einer Lichtquelle erhellt wird. Eine ähnliche Mechanik findet sich auch in Schein, wer Closure also kennt und wie ich mochte, sollte sich Schein näher ansehen.
Persönlich stehe ich dem Spiel mit gemischten Gefühlen gegenüber, denn es gibt Bereiche, in denen Schein gut ist, dann aber wieder andere wo dies nicht der Fall ist. Die Atmospähre von Schein ist sehr bedrückend, die Grafik und der Sound vermitteln stets ein Gefühl der Trostlosigkeit. Gleichzeitig ist die Grafik, sagen wir mal, nicht sonderlich hübsch und die Animationen sind bestenfalls als krude zu bezeichnen. Die Musik unterstreicht wie erwähnt den Grundton des Spiels, die Sprachausgabe wirkt selbst auf mich als nicht englischen Muttersprachler sehr uninspiriert, wobei die weibliche Stimme etwas besser ist, als die des Protagonisten.
Die Rätsel sind meiner Meinung nach gut gelungen, es gibt verschiedene farbige lichtquellen und nur bei passenden Farben sind teile der Spielwelt überhaupt existent. Dabei sind die Aufgaben immer fair, aber die lösung ist nicht immer offensichtlich (So haben die Lampen zum beispiel verschiedene Größen ihrer Lichtradien, das kann man leicht übersehen). Das Platforming oder für Leute aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum der Jump and run teil hingegen ist weniger gut gelungen, er wird zunehmend durch Hektik und Trial and Error bestimmt und das Hüpfen fühlt sich allgemein absolut unresponsive an (Sorry für den Anglizismus).
Also wie man sieht, viel Licht, aber auch viel Schatten - fünf Euro in die Wortspielkasse wirft-, die zu einer eingeschränkten Empfehlung führen, da es dem Spiel irgenwie an Eigenständigkeit mangelt, es fühlt sich wie ein Mix aus den vier von mir benannten Spielen an, wobei es für alle die eins oder mehrere davon mochten, einen näheren Blick Wert ist, zumal es mit sieben Euro ein gutes Preis/Leistungsverhältnis aufweist, ich selbst habe es in einem Sale für die Hälfte geschossen und bereue das keineswegs.
Schein est un excellent jeu de plate-forme et est un vrai defi ! Des graphismes simples, une mécanique de jeu fluide, on transforme son environnement en fonction de la lumiere (vert, rouge ou bleu) pour faire apparaitre/disparaitre des plateformes, activer des mécanismes, et divers choses qui metterons vos nerfs à rude épreuve. En effet, n'ayez pas peur de recommencer plusieurs fois le même passage pour le réussir. Heuresement, les "points de sauvegardes" sont nombreux et bien placés.
L'histoire est correct, la narration moyenne. A jouer avec la manette ou clavier. De temps en temps le jeu rame un peu (soucis d'optimisation), mais un relancement rapide du jeu corrige vite cela. La bande son est correct.
Alors si vous aimez les jeux de plateformes avec du challenge, de la réflexion, de l'agilité, alors je vous conseille se petit jeu indépendant - nombreuse fois primés - (il y a une demo) qui mérite d'être connu !
Schein is a neat puzzle platformer game focusing on using various light sources to warp reality to solve the puzzles in the game. I liked the fact that some of the puzzles are thinking based while others are reflex based. The game does not completely bogs itself down with a single type of puzzle over and over again; it alternates between these two types of puzzles to keep you interested to the game. You never feel any unnecessary repetion in the game. It has quite a good of an atmosphere. The graphics and music is nothing like Bastion, Braid but it is decent enough and fits very well with the atmosphere.
There is also the underlying story which unravels as the game progresses. When everything is finished it just felt a bit underwhelming to me. For such an interesting and compelling atmosphere, I would have preferred at least multiple endings. But then again it is not much of a problem.
I really recommend Schein for anybody who is interested in a good puzzle platformer game. Also considering its price, it is a very good deal for a low price.

Der Soundtrack ist sehr angenehm und geht einem auch nach dem hunderdsten Tod in Sumpf, Feuer oder Dornen nicht auf die Nerven, sondern lässt einen ruhig seinen nächsten hoffnungslosen Versuch starten.
Angenehm fand ich, dass man direkt aus Steam in das Spiel startet - ohne nervige Introbildchen zum Wegklicken. Tatsächlich hat es mir den Wiedereinstig in das Spiel bei jedem Anlauf etwas angenehmer und atmosphärischer gemacht.
Die Synchro fand ich etwas flach - das es aber überhaupt eine gibt, ist bei einem derart kleinen Indieprojekt (siehe Abspann) schon eine Leistung. Die Story ist zwar nicht mitreißend, aber sie hat mich schon bei der Stange gehalten und dazu beigetragen, dass ich auch den letzten Boss besiegen konnte.
Hoffe es versuchen sich in Zukunft noch mehr Leute daran. Grinsend mitzuverfolgen wie sich Freunde fluchend durch das Spiel arbeiten, stelle ich mir sehr unterhaltsam vor.
UPDATE: Sorry, people, but I have to change my review. After spending several hours with it, I've decided the level design is too cumbersome and technical to merit a thumbs-up.
I want to recommend this game; the graphics are amazing and the triplicate-art shows a level of devotion and attention to detail that most games don't have. Unfortunately, the puzzles eventually get very minute and annoying -- so much so that the game is no longer fun. I simply quit caring and stopped playing. Maybe other people enjoy this sort of pixel-different placement challenge, but I don't want that sort of stress and frustration in my games.
I struggled through many levels that I didn't enjoy, because I assumed the fun factor would return, but it never did. It's just not worth my time anymore.

Original Review: A remarkable little platformer.
Combine the focused visual concentration of Limbo -- the refined art style, the elegant control mechanisms unencumbered by needless complications -- with the unforgiving, punishing precision of Super Meat Boy -- the tiny ledges, the insane death spikes waiting below -- and you've got a superb title.
You could wait until it gets cheaper, but I can tell this will be worth every penny of the $9.00 I paid.
