This game kills it when I'm entertaining guests. They always get really into it and the learning curve is very easy. The twitchy gameplay means most people have a reasonable chance so I don't just dunk on whoever's over. Great game, lots of fun.

ce jeu est typiquement un excellent jeu de fin de soirée entre potes, quand il ne reste plus que quelques bières et que déjà certains invités ont dû partir, ce jeu est nerveux, un coup au but = un mort, les parties sont rapides et pourtant le Samurai Gunn se veut précis et punitif : tirer ses (3) balles dans tous les sens ou sauter partout ne vous apportera qu'une mort affligeante.
De plus il y a plusieurs types de Mondes qui ont chacun des particularités (plateformes mobiles, mousse collante …), ce qui donne une petite surprise bienvenue ainsi qu’un petit air frais.
Mais le top du top reste le moment "mort subite" (pour départager les joueurs finalistes à égalité), où une tension s’installe instantanément dans un (très) bref échange.
Rajoutez à ce gameplay une musique et une ambiance "film de samouraï VHS" et vous avez un jeu qui vous fera suer sur vos manettes et créera une rivalité amicale entre vos potes.

Samurai Gunn is a simple, yet highly stylized arena fighter. There’s only three buttons: jump, slash, and shoot. That being said, this simplicity allows players to focus on their strategy.
The combat is just straight up satisfying. Sword clashes, gunplay, and movement feel smooth. The 1 v 1 showdowns are creative and super well done.
However, this 12 year old game was designed to couch gameplay so it doesn’t have any online capabilities. Still, this game is great to play in any regard. I recommend it.

Wonderful balance, abundant opportunities for strategic gameplay, exponentially more fun when played with friends. Love being able to hit enemy bullets back at them. A very classy touch which I appreciate very much is the option to substitute blood effects with cherry blossom petals. I did buy the game when it was discounted to 89 cents, if that helps bring needed context for anyone reading, as the price-fun ratio could be different for you.

Samurai GUNN is an older game from 2013. It's a venerable 12 years old at the time of this review, but feels like it's much, much older, and that's the first of many problems.
This is basically a ripoff of Super Smash Bros, a local PvP focused arena platform brawler, but with two distinct differences, instead of a variety of Nintendo characters, it's Kurosawa style samurai with over the top blood effects everywhere. Secondly and most distinctively, the graphics, gameplay and everything else about the game are much, much worse than Super Smash Bros.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.
This looks a lot like it was designed for consoles, but released on Steam instead by mistake. While this is on PC, it has all the hallmarks and deficiencies of a console game, from the clunkier than needed control scheme to the less than cutting edge graphics. There's 10's of thousands of PC games on Steam, and PC gamers deserve only the best. This might not appeal to many gamers due to the lack of PC-centric design. It's unclear why this never made it to the video game console appliances it seems to have been designed for.
Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the GameMaker Studio construction kit/toolset. This is a very poor quality toolset favoured by amateur developers as it's cheap and requires little in the way of development skill, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. GameMaker Studio is most commonly used to make retro pixel shovelware and cash grabs.
A strong argument can be made that construction kits like GameMaker Studio should never be used to make games for profit, as the "developer", Beau Blyth has done here. These construction kits are intended to teach people some of the basic principles of game development, and to make small demos to pass around with friends. They're not intended to replace to actual work of real, professional game developers. So it's inappropriate when amateurs try to use these for profit, without any actual, real game development effort taking place. This doesn't result in products that have any real meaningful value for gamers.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 110,000+ games on Steam?
Samurai GUNN is relatively cheap at $5 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 14,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.

I remember watching gameplays of this and I'm sure it's fun. But as a lonely soul, this is local multiplayer ONLY. Well there is one mode I can play solo but... not as fun you know.
This is one of my favorite couch versus platforming + fighting games, I love it sooo much! The controls are sooo tight and the combat and movement are super fluid. If you love games like Towerfall, you'll looove this.

Samurai Gunn is a fast-paced and crunchy pixel art fighting game. The controls are tight and quick to learn, making for a great couch party experience. Definitely better the more people you have.
If you like couch competative games like Nidhog or Towerfall Ascension this will all up your alley. There are a few modes, but out of them there is only one that can be played single player - and that one is a survival mode.

"Samurai Gunn" is a nice and stylised local-multiplayer versus game with tight and intense combat controls and a simple and challenging gameplay loop. While the diversity in terms of gameplay-mechanics is meagre, the creative map design and bold overall presentation makes up for an epic multiplayer experience.

Super fun! Some of the maps are bad but thats okay, I love the mechanic where last survivor wins but ONLY if they have most kills by more than one, showdowns are super fun, only real complaint is I wish unlocking the secret characters was permanent so I don't have to google it every time we play.
Honestly this game is okay, the mechanics are fun but there is not a lot to keep you playing. I bought this game years ago and maybe only played it a few times. The biggest issue was that there was no online and that base game is very simple. It looks like there's remote play now so that's an improvement but it doesn't make up for the complete lack of support by the developers. You can see that other games are labors of love by other developers and some get many updates over the years but this one feels forgotten. The core game is fun but I can't recommend it for the price. You will forget about it and it will sit in your library taking up space.

Este es un juego de peleas versus para hasta 4 jugadores. El estilo de juego es bien rápido y requiere de muchos reflejos ya que los personajes mueren de un solo golpe. No lo pude disfrutar por que no tiene online, es multijugador local solamente. Para jugarlo en solitario tiene un modo aburridisimo que es exterminar a bots de la máquina uno tras otro que se portan todos igual.
El juego en sí ofrece muy poca variedad de personajes, todos se sienten parecidos y los gráficos son en 8-bits pero muy feos y sin carisma. La música es genérica. La jugabilidad es lo mejor que tiene, con controles sencillos y mucha velocidad pero sufre por la falta de habilidades y movimientos particulares de los personajes. Otra cosa mala que tiene es que no hay opción para ajustar resolución y lo terminé viendo en una "caja" en mi pantalla.
No me pude divertir con este juego.

This game gets really deep once you start putting some time into it.
Did some shrooms with a budy and we played this for 3 hours and it was one of the most intense set of matches I've played. Every fight felt like a story. The sword clashes, exchanging gunfire, and wall hopping make for a great action movie feel.

EXCELLENT rare gem. rarest of gems, none of my friends have it or seem to know of it. I believe it requires atleast one extra player. 1 hit kills (and deaths), castlevania styled sword play, limited 3 bullets per life. Played with my brother and nephew and we were all quite thrilled. Perfect couch game with friends.
EDIT: I lied, survival mode lets you fight computer bots solo. 9001x better with friends tho.
Update: Samurai Gunn 2 is also in the works, and even has a singleplayer adventure.

A neat reflex game with friends!
There is not much depth, it is a couch game what did you expect, which makes the game easy to pick up and play.
It relies completely on your reflexes and reading your opponents next move.
Only one note, it says that it is only for windows while I got it for MAC years ago. It also works fine without any problems.

Сразу хочу сказать, что игра, довольно таки неплохая. У нее отличная оптимизация (я как обладатель очень слабого ноутбука, который даже Hotline Miami не тянет, уверенно это заявляю), и довольно таки бодрый геймплей. Но, в игре напрочь убиты хитбоксы, из за чего и так непростой геймплей становится просто адским. Поясню: играл я в режиме выживания с ботом, ибо компании для игры у меня нет. И очень странно видеть то, как ты буквально гладишь своим мечем противника и ему насрать, но за то он, даже не дотягиваясь до тебя, умудряется разрезать тебя пополам. Это, мягко говоря, странно. И так... всю игру. Стреляешь в противника - он отбивает пулю даже не коснувшись её. Пуля летит в тебя - отбивай, или не отбивай, ты уже труп.
Опять же, сама по себе игра - классная. Возможно для посиделок с друзьями и вовсе отличная. Но эти чертовы хитбоксы просто убивают все удовольствие от игры, и ты просто орешь в экран "ДА КАКОГО ФИГА Я ТЕБЯ ♥♥♥♥♥, А ТЫ НЕ ДОХНЕШЬ, ♥♥♥♥? ТА ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ НА ЛЕВО, ♥♥♥♥, КАК ТЫ МЕНЯ РАЗРУБИЛ ЧЕРЕЗ СТЕНУ, ПЕС? АААА!!!!!"

As if Smash Bros met Nidhogg in the center, dropped all of it's toxic community members, and then just gave up on trying to make an online format for a group of maybe 300 people still interested.

This game is a delight, fun at any party. The rounds are short and snappy and the variety of environments changes things up. Always a joy to play.
Great game for local multiplayer. The game mechanics is amazing.
An instant couch-gaming classic where easy-to-learn controls and subtle strategies are completely forgotten once the shared-screen mayhem starts. I love breaking this game out with a group of friends over and proclaiming my victories in their faces, when I'm not nursing wounded pride over a brutal losing streak :)
Pick this one up on sale, for best value.
