RPG. Pinball. Love the concept. Love this game. Ever since I heard there was a sequel coming, I knew I had to come back and finish this one.

It's short and sweet, though I'll admit, I rage quit this game, twice, years ago on the second to last level. I finally came back to it. I forgot elements of the story, and how to use abilities, but not that level that turned me away twice before. Well, third try's the charm.

Who knew pinball could have a story mode? Who knew it would actually be fun?

If you like pinball and/or rpgs, definitely check out this unique blend. I just hope you're better at pinball than I am. Now I'm ready for the sequel!

Cradle the ball to swap characters, grow the team, buy better gear, etc.

Rollers of the Realm, a pinball RPG, is a unique concept and was a lot of fun at first. Unfortunately, there are several flaws that ruined the experience as the campaign pushed on. The most important is that the level shticks become worse as the game progresses. You're supposed to be able to choose between various balls with varied play styles, but It felt like I had to be constantly healing the flippers with my healer ball due to enemies shooting fireballs and arrows while barely getting a chance to enjoy using the attack balls. Switching characters by holding the ball in a flipper is also less-than-convenient, particularly when the levels become more hectic, making it less likely you'll be able to whip out the character you need in a tight spot. The placement of enemies and other obstacles also felt genuinely unfair at points, and losing one ball would often quickly result in losing the others with nothing I could've done to change the outcome.

A smaller critique is that all of the dialogue is tied to the level and will be replayed if you lose, want to restart, or choose to replay the mission (which the game encourages for you to earn more gold and experience). This made these occasional restarts even more frustrating and annoying. In a similar vein, there was one multi-tiered level that had a puzzle on the upper floor, and if the ball fell while on the lower level, you had to redo the entire upper puzzle, which was a waste of time.

There is also too much focus on the challenge levels as opposed to the more interesting campaign which was only ~4-5 hours long (at least, if we base it on the achievement list; there are only a few campaign-specific achievements, and the rest are tied to the challenges), which are boring and quickly grow tiresome.

Fortunately, most of these concerns seem to be on the easier side to remedy, and I hope the devs improve upon them in the sequel that was announced because the pinball RPG concept still has a lot of potential.

Rollers of the Realm is a great take on pinball combat. It applies RPG leveling and item bonuses to a host of character-based pinballs of different weights and handling, many of whom can summon additional pinballs. The story is decent and a lot of the voice acting is good. I'm a big fan of the core characters and how they evolve over the course of the narrative. Unfortunately, the repetitive lines from the pinballs in combat can get somewhat grating, especially when I'm on a losing streak. Overall, I'm looking forward to the upcoming sequel.

Difficulty scaling is weird. I played through most of the game on Challenging and was unable to make it past the last two bosses, even with max levels and all shop items. Switching to Casual mainly meant I found the bosses beatable, as it still took me a lot of tries to break through and beat the game.

I liked the variety of boards and the level of interaction. It is very easy to 'tilt' the board to move pinballs already in play. My main complaint with the handling when using a controller is the easiness of accidentally swapping characters when the ball is being held against the flappers.

Really creative idea, very short game. Bought it for $7.79 CDN, beat it today and don't really have much interest in playing non-campaign as it feels a little tiresome after finishing the campaign. I recommend it, but don't expect to get more than a few hours out of it.

Awesome take on the Pinball genre, where different heroes that you acquire throughout the campaign mode are represented as balls themselves, each having their own unique attributes and Special abilities that affect how you use them on each level. In each level you gain XP and gold for killing enemies, finding treasure, etc. Between levels you can go to "The Port" where you can buy upgrades for all of your current characters or even hire new heroes! As you get more heroes, you'll unlock new dialogue when you play old levels which I found to be an awesome touch that helps add to the replayability. The voice acting is pretty solid, it took viewing the end credits to find out that certain voice actors played multiple roles which is impressive. The gameplay and ball physics are great, with very few instances of "how did THAT happen?!" which I find all too common in most other pinball games. My biggest complaint thus far is that I was able to complete the campaign in about 3hrs, and found all of the treasure within 5 hours. I still have lots of upgrades and a final hero to unlock, and I have yet to try the Arena mode (I'm not sure if items/gold/etc in Arena mode will carry over to your Campaign progress or vice versa so I've been trying to max out everything in Campaign before jumping into Arena) I believe that if a game's biggest weakness is that it's not long enough, that tells me it is a solid experience!

The overall art style is great, and the cutscenes, while short and unanimated (still images), are done well and make for some neat screenshots. The music and sound effects are serviceable.

Absolutely worth checking out if you are a fan of Pinball games, and in fact I already have the sequel wishlisted and followed as I can't wait to continue the adventure and see what new mechanics and story are in store!

How is it that I had so much fun playing a game that I thought was an incredibly stupid concept? If you find any enjoyment in pinball games, real or simulated, and you have ever enjoyed an adventure game or RPGs, then take this for a spin. I dunno why, but it works. **Shrug**

It's quick to pick up and put down, with the light fun of casual pinball, but with RPG elements offering additional strategy and complexity over time, instead of relying on deep, repetitive play with the simple goal of maximizing points scored--something I find a bit tedious and boring.

So here we're trying to blend RPG with pinball. Sounds like a fresh concept, right? Well, in theory, maybe. But in practice? Let's just say it's a bit of a swing and a miss.

See, the problem is, it doesn't fully commit to either genre. It's like it's stuck in this weird limbo where it's not quite RPG enough to satisfy those cravings for epic quests and character development, and it's not quite pinball enough to give you that satisfying arcade thrill.

So what do you end up with? A game that's trying to be two things at once and failing to excel at either. And let me tell you, that's not a recipe for fun gameplay.

Sure, it's a novel idea, but unless they can find a way to really lean into one genre or the other, it's hard to see this game gaining much traction. So yeah, if you're looking for a true RPG or a true pinball experience, you might want to look elsewhere.

Definitely worth it for $5 or less. There is nothing quite like this game that I have found. The art is a bit rough at full resolution. Some of the maps definitely need a tune up and I experienced a few spots of random animation lag on the ball.

I recommend this game for anyone who misses Microsoft's old pinball game. Not quite as good, but it scratches the itch in a different way! Love the combat aspect.

Not a bad game. I'll post my first impressions.

First the positives. It's pinball, and your balls have different abilities. That's pretty cool, and you know exactly when to get excited if a NPC pinball suddenly shows up, because you're the only one who uses pinballs, everyone else is a little animated mini-figurine. You can level up your character pinballs and each of their upgrades provide a tiny blurb of lore about them, like the knight character who pawned off his ring, and once you buy it back his special only costs half as much. The character interactions are pretty good, nothing too chuckle worthy but its about what I would expect. It's a mostly pleasant experience.

And now my nitpicks. Art style is a little meh, makes me think "The DnD 5e players manual but Chibi" The controls are... ok. I don't have the slightest clue why you need to flick the left stick up and down to change Balls (characters) when theres RT and LT you could use instead or the Dpad. Speaking of the Controls, the game seems to lack the icons for the buttons, telling you to press a key on the keyboard instead of the controller.

One thing I find annoying is how often you have to hit barriers that are in the way to move up the board but other than that I can't find much to complain about.

The music is passable, although not really memorable in any way. Maybe you'll get sick of the generic "On an adventure" music that plays in the background throughout the menus.

I might come back to this one if I need something to do for a quick 30 minutes or so.

You know I don't think this works ALL the way, but I think it works enough that there's a charm that's kept me coming back to it over and over throughout the years (closing in on a decade!?!?!). I finally picked it up and finished its main story and while I wish more levels had more interesting goals, and there were more pinball things like ramps and dropshots and maybe even ball locks or something, it's got heart and clever ideas sprinkled throughout. Plus, what other games let you trebuchet a pinball at a giant's head?

I can see the quality here - this game has a neat idea, combing a pinball game with RPG. Different characters are represented by different balls which is cool.

While you play the story you will loose balls as they miss the flippers - and can revive them. But the method if reviving them is annoying. If all of your balls die then you loose the level and you must restart.

I know this is how most pinball games work - you loose balls and your score resets to zero but this feature really makes me not like the game. It is just not clicking with me.

Just not my cup of tea.

This is one of those games that needs a "meh" as a vote. Very interesting concept and it kind of works. The problem is in the execution. Unless you are a PINBALL GOD or have a lot of patience, this game is just simply FRUSTRATING.

Collect the berries... okay HOW? The arenas somehow feel both too big and too small at the same time. Good luck trying to get that one enemy in the corner.

Lots of frustration here so go into it knowing that.

Rollers of the Realm offers a really different pinball experience to the more "serious" simulations like Pinball FX and more arcade-inspired titles like Demon's Tilt and Xenotilt.
And that is the real charm of the game. It is like nothing else.

You can select between different characters in ball form that offer different abilities in the game. You'll need to select the right characters at certain points of the expansive levels to progress efficiently and beat the enemies.

I really love the mechanic in boss battles where your flippers take damage and shrink in size until you are left with stubs to flip with. Your flipper gap goes from a modern solid state gap to an experimental electro-mechanical (EM) flipper gap that is as wide as two and a bit character balls.

Expect a variety of flipper play modes jammed into this game, which despite its age really holds up well even today.

If you haven't already, check out the RotR Reunion demo to see how the designers have taken all they have learned from RotR and applied a fresh take on the original.
I can't wait until the Reunion game is released, but until that happens you can have a lot of fun with this novel pinball title.

补票！很久之前就玩过这个，应该是我玩过的第一款把弹球和冒险结合起来的游戏。之前玩的时候在中期卡关了，现在玩一遍才发现之前那时候根本没有注意角色的养成……

这游戏的关键是要多刷金币然后升级角色装备，让角色逐渐变强，才能一直玩下去，不然游戏体验就会十分糟糕。每名角色都有不同的分工，小女孩可以背刺NPC偷钱，老骑士擅长打伤害以及破坏障碍物，猎人可以在靠近敌人时对其射箭，升级之后的射速非常夸张，因此如果你的球一直打不中敌人的话推荐练，技能召唤的鹰也可以锁定敌人并持续进攻，中后期还能再解锁一匹狼作为召唤物，伤害很高。港口的可雇佣角色比较推荐炼金术士，炸弹对怪海很好用，主动技能也是在当前位置放置威力更强的炸弹，打boss时非常好用。

难点基本就在最终boss战，三场连战，一旦全灭就功亏一篑。第一战清掉骷髅后boss会落地，此时即可输出，推荐用猎人清骷髅然后炼金术士直接用技能炸boss。第二战需要老骑士清掉投石机旁边的石柱，然后让小女孩坐上投石机向boss发射，因为剧情里小女孩得到了传奇装备，所以克制boss，其他角色基本无法对boss造成伤害（老骑士甚至都碰不到boss哈哈哈）。第三战比较难，球如果到两边就无了，所以要狂按夹子键把球打回中间。而且场上经常有蝙蝠扣减魔法，使得复活角色变得更加困难。这里就比较考验技巧了，推荐用老骑士，拉满之后基本能连续放盾的技能，而且因为剧情还会再送一个额外球，慢慢磨就过了。

This is essentialy a pinball game with some RPG elements including a story.

Your characters are your balls that you both unlock (through gameplay or purchased as upgrades) and can upgrade to increase their effectiveness on the field (the pinball part).

Balls come in 3 sizes : small, medium and large. They each have unique abilities that are inspired by RPG games.

It is a fun, very action oriented game (the pinball part) and enjoyable in small bursts.

Be warned though, if you are a completionist, some of the achievement are quite grindy from what I read.

That fact that I have to leave this review right now hurts me. I really like this game. The combination of pinball with some rpg elements really brought a smile to my face when I first played this game years ago. But now that I came back to play it again I find that all of a sudden the flippers will stick in the up position and it'll take a few more button presses to un-stick them.

At first I thought that it might be due to my controller being funky so I switched to keyboard controls, but no it does it there too. I did a little research and the Devs apparently left some messages that they were aware and working on it but this was months ago. If this wasn't an issue currently then I would absolutely recommend this game. As it is now I just can't do it.

This gives me serious Sonic Spinball vibes. Couple that with the trendy adventure-lite elements of having a party, currency for upgrades, a mana pool, and some story. The game's not too serious and losing is quite forgiving but the game play is fun for a casual crowd.

Game play advances on a stage-by-stage basis with story progression. Each stage has potential to be made up of multiple parts or zones.

Party join as part of the story line and exist as pinballs with various talents. Examples being a knight who's pinball feels heavy but also does higher damage to any enemies it encounters along with doing more damage to destructible barriers. Another example being a rogue who's mana ability summons a dog in the form of an additional active pinball on the table.

Gold earned in stages can be used to enhance characters such as improving backstab damage, mana/gold collection, speed, etc.

Each character has a mana ability cast from a shared mana pool which accumulates based on hitting certain targets throughout each stage. Mana abilities include things like the knight being able to temporarily protect from ball loss, rogue being able to summon multi-ball, and healer being able to revive a character's pinball during a stage in progress.

The story is somewhat interesting but to be honest I'm too interested compared to how fun the pinball is.

All-in-all I've spent more than $10 on bad decisions lately. This actually turned out to be a pretty good decision.

a story driven pinball game with rpg elements where you use the ball to attack enemies. if you are using a controller make sure you remap the swap buttons. each character/ball has special abilities when you use them and you can push the ball a bit to the sides. you lose once all your balls/characters fall down the hole. you need to watch your flappers hp because enemies will attack them and make them shrink.

this game makes me realize how much i suck at pinball also if you like this game check our Zombie Rollerz.

Completed this game, on the Steamdeck/offline so my hours might not be very accurate.

I binged it; started playing about a week ago. A few train rides and a couple evenings later I am done. Worthwhile game. The tables are generally fairly simple, but there's enough new features/specific objectives to make each one interesting. The character/ball system is unique and fun, though I didn't take enough advantage of the mana-based specials. If specials and reviving of a fallen ball worked on different meters, I might be inclined to do so, but as it is, playing on challenging I wasn't good enough to feel like I could use the specials and not regret the spending of a 'revive'.

Some of the characters feel a bit too useful compared to others, though that's possibly my playstyle. The amount of healing to the decaying flippers that the Healer provides, for instance, is too valuable to let that ball be downed on certain boards.

I bought this on sale, but it's probably also worth the cost. Replayability is TBD.

This is a very good and fun game but not without it's issues.
So I picked up this game without knowing much about it, I knew it was some variation of flipper but that was about it.
The game play is fun and you can play on casual or challenging and here is the biggest problem this game has. You can get through the game on harder difficulty until the last boss or should I say bosses. It is not impossible to beat the bosses on harder but after 3 or 4 hours it just becomes repetitive,frustrating and it only takes one or two mistakes and you match is over. The other thing you have to watch out for is that you have to invest your money in alchemists with bombs because they will make your life easier, guess WHO didn't know that...well you didn't say anything about that GAME! :)
The game has a good story and some very good voice acting, it is also at times funny. Sound design and music are also very well done.
Controls feel good and the game play is as I said fun.
Overall a very good game and I had fun playing it, if the difficulty was handled properly it would be hard to find major flaws in this one.

I bought this on a whim because it looked different and fun, and it was.
Played on the challenging difficulty which adds a bit of grind to it, tbh, but it was not too tough. The arena mode offers a few more challenges after the main game ends and i'm satisfied enough that i think i'll get the sequel when it comes out.

TLDR: if it's on sale (I got it for $2.49) or if you are a big fan of pinball, or unique game design, then I recommend it. Otherwise you can probably pass.

Basically a "living" pinball game where your ball represents a specific character with abilities, stats, and upgrades. You can switch between characters whenever you are cradling the ball or when you launch. You can also move your ball left/right in flight, simulating a sort of "tilt" effect, where the characters dexterity determines how fast it can move.

At first it felt clunky (to be fair I was playing wireless controller instead of wired and there was a bunch of input lag), the game loop wasn't quite clear (Why switch characters when I can just use the same one every time, and enemies don't damage your ball?), and it felt like just a fantasy theme slapped on top of a simple pinball game that didn't significantly change the experience.

As you get further along, you unlock more characters who each unique and interesting abilities. The levels get more complex and require you to strategize with your characters and leverage each one to succeed. To be honest, It was only on the last level (final boss level) that I really became compelled by the game design and fully appreciated it. The levels leading up are pretty well paced to introduce you to the mechanics of each character and present new puzzles to solve.
When everything comes together it's very cohesive - your flippers will get damaged unless you use the healer for a bit, obstacles can only be broken by the fighter, cursed monsters can only be felled by the hunter, etc. The final level brings all these challenges together in tandem.

I just beat the game after ~5.5 hours playtime. Pretty short, but maybe a replay would be worthwhile now that I understand what it's trying to accomplish. For the price I think 5 hours is plenty to expect, less than a movie ticket!

Sometimes a bit twitchy and frustrating. I wish there were more levels that required the use of different abilities. There were some characters I didn't use at all (unless they were the last surviving hero) and many levels where I only used 1 character. Overall it's relatively simple, but pretty clever and well implemented.

Oh my gosh. Where do I begin? With so many predictable cookie cutter games out there, this stands by itself. Rollers of the Realm is absolutely magical. I was in love within minutes of starting, and before I knew it I was lost in this amazing fantasy world. I don't quite know how to explain this, but the characters actually come alive! I would never have believed this possible in a game with such relatively simple banter, but I feel as if I know them like old friends. I love pinball, but this is not a pinball table, not even remotely. I love RPG games, but this is so much more. And I love fantasy and adventure, and that it has in spades. This wonderful experience almost defies description. You must play it yourself to understand. And even if you have never played pinball before you will enjoy this so much. There is strategy beyond just hitting balls, and think of the interactive flipper use like wielding swords or casting spells and distributing potions, only with more skill involved. I highly encourage you to buy Rollers of the Realm, and get its sequel on your Wishlist.

The instructions are ♥♥♥♥, the bugs are numeropus and... its just not worth the effort to learn.

It looks promising, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is this an unfinished unpolished piece of garbage. Literally the intro instructions will often tell you "press or to do xyz" And thats literalk... the keys you need to press are not actually displayed, because that would make things easy,.

It freezes constantly, has no ability to lock the mouse to the window forcing you to play in full screen or deal with constantly clicking off the window.

Seriously, its garbage that should be still marked early acces but the developer decided they were done long before it was polished.

I'm going to suggest this game because it's great to see an indie type of pinball game. It combines RPG elements, fully voiced dialog for characters and a degree of difficulty that will keep you trying and trying again trying to get through to the next scene.

One of the levels I played had lots of flippers. You had to work the flippers strategically to get the ball to go to where you need to on the playing field. There are also times where you manually can control your ball with the XBOX analog stick to progress.

For those people who are seasoned PC pinball players you may like the extra challenge. It kind of reminds me of Pinball Quest on NES and also Adventure Pinball from EA on PC. For those who are new to the world of pinball you may find yourself confused because of all the ideas the developer added into the game, it really takes a lot of practice just to get through certain parts of the game.

But it's a worthy indie pinball game to buy overall, of the 15 minutes I played it, I really like it and will be playing more soon. And it supports XBOX One controllers too! FYI I don't have that fast of a laptop graphics card and processor wise but this game played just fine on my machine.

I love pinball, and I love the medieval fantasy settings. Medieval Madness is one of my favorite pinball tables ever (even though I've never actually played a real one).
Giving a pinball game a story campaign with unique challenges makes this game both intuitive for beginners and deep for pinball veterans. I love the art style, the colorful graphics , the fast-paced gameplay and the fact that it's published by Atlas alone makes it worth checking out even if you aren't a pinball person.

I absolutely recommend this game if you enjoy fantasy or pinball or both. A pinball-style RPG works quite well together and I can't wait for its sequel.

I recommend this to anyone who likes pinball games and isn't a hardcore pinball fan. It is a hybrid game in how its a story driven pinball with RPG elements for XP, mana, gold, and items. Each ball is a character, except for some of their multi ball type companions.

Here is what you need to know:
+Cute characters and basic story add extra personified charm not found in most pinball games.
+The mana system is great for unlocking character abilities and revives at max mana.
?Difficulty is eirther Casual or Challenging. I thought it could use a third setting, because I played most of the time on Challenging, but thought it was too challenging.
+Any table previously played can be replayed to get more gold, which is useful because...
?Gold is used to buy items for characters or hire temp characters. I didn't bother with temps.
+The flipper health system is cool, wherein flippers take damage from enemies with projectiles or magic.
?Flippers can only be healed by certain characters or from certain things.
?On certain boards, certain characters are best for some things. Last board requires a specific character to be used, or everything takes many times longer.
+Enemy and level variety is pretty good, as there are multilevel boards.
+There are some branching board paths, some required some optional.

I want to like this game so much but it takes every chance it can get to make you hate it. The upgrades are way too expensive and grindy (same with experience levels), the flippers will FREQUENTLY get stuck in a raised position which will lead to countless unfair deaths, the final level is a ridiculous gauntlet with zero checkpoints and, coupled with the issue of the flippers getting stuck, is Sisyphean. Just don't waste your time here because it's not worth it and you're going to look back at every hour and think about what you could have done instead.

What a fun little gem. Made me feel like a half-decent pinball player and the fun story and clever maps kept me interested enough to play for hours. I am looking forward to the sequel.

Edit to say that it also runs well on Steam Deck and I'm excited for the "Reunion" (Sequel).
