I wouldn't recommend this for the full price of $25 but, if you can get it on a good sale, it's not terrible. It's not particularly good, either, though. There are many better puzzle games for VR. Despite this game being often recommended, it's pretty weak in a lot of ways...

First off, the "puzzles" barely count as puzzles. There are like 2 real puzzles in the entire game and the rest of them fall into 1 of 2 categories: 1) You just have to follow a chain of interactables that can only be done in sequence. You'll enter a room, there will be a bunch of switches and such but none of them are powered on except one. You interact with that one and another powers on. Then you interact with that one and another powers on, etc, until you reach the end of the sequence. 2) There will be a bunch of interactables all powered on at once but there's no trick or solution to solve it. You just have to fiddle with things until you stumble across the solution.

Second, the smooth locomotion is PAINFULLY slow. Smooth loco and teleport are both active at the same time but smooth loco is so slow that you're basically forced to teleport.

Third, this game is super short. I'm writing this after beating the game at 2.5 hours. I did miss a couple things so it might be like 3-3.5 hours to 100% it but not long at all.

Lastly, the controls are kind of annoying, even though the only controls to speak of are switching between your grabber, scanner and flashlight. The flashlight is useless. The laser your scanner emits works better as a flashlight than your actual flashlight so that could have been gotten rid of. Then I'm sure they could have worked out a way to make the scanner and grabber active at the same time. There's no real reason to switch back and forth. If you got rid of the switching then that would free up the face buttons and then you can use the trigger for the grabbers and one of the face buttons for the scanner. EZPZ.

Overall, it's not terrible but it's not particularly good, either. Considering the price is high for the length and the fact that there are better puzzle games available for VR, I can't strongly recommend this but I can't really recommend against it, either. It's one of those "I would have picked 'neutral', if I could" games.

Red Matter is a very short game, but it's incredibly immersive and still looks great in 2026. The attention to detail is beautiful, but I just wish it was longer.
The puzzles are very good and do require a bit of thinking, but they are very satisfying when you get them.
Ah well, time to charge the Quest 3 and download the sequel. :)

While not as refined as its successor, it's nonetheless a very enjoyable puzzle game with an intriguing story, great world building and great atmosphere. It's best enjoyed back to back with Red Matter 2, so try to get both games as a bundle, ideally on sale. Had no issues getting it to work on Linux (Proton + ALVR --> Pico 4).
Trigger warning: There are scare chords on three or four events that caught me off guard (because the atmosphere is quite tense), but there are no jump scares that put the player character in danger.

Overall: Very much recommended!

Did I enjoy the game? Not really 😅
It's visually impressive.
I originally bought the game on the Quest when it came out. But because I'm a scaredy cat I wasn't able to finish it.

So this was now my third attempt to play through it. Now that I have finished this game, I can say that this is at the level of Batman Arkham VR (the first Batman VR game), good visuals, bunch of random puzzles, figuring out how to control the grappler, and short!

Having to use the universal translator on everything...and I mean everything in the game, gave me PTSD!

If you have no problems with dark spaces, the ability to be calm when having a wait on the DOS text to show up, and be able to withstand unnecessary creepy music. Then this game is for you.

Buy it on sale! Like a real sale like 90% off!

Gra daje mi mocny vibe książek Stanisława Lema, a może też odrobinę C. Clarke'a, jako że jest osadzona na jednym z księżyców Saturna - co biorę za luźne nawiązanie do pierwszej części Odysei. Jest ładna, dobrze opowiedziana, zagadki są ciekawe, ale raczej nie zablokujesz się tu nigdzie. Sporo interakcji z obiektami i trochę widoków do podziwiania. Bardzo polecam.

Red Matter is an old-school VR puzzle game that’s surprisingly polished and well focused on what it wants to deliver.

The intro is short and the controls are explained quickly, and then the story that is actually interesting starts. The puzzles are well balanced, not too hard, not too easy and they never break the flow of the game. Everything feels intentionally designed, without unnecessary filler or downtime.
Visually, the game still looks good for its age, even though it can’t compete with newer VR titles anymore.

That said, the game has two big problems:

- It’s extremely short.
I finished it in about 2.5 hours with 100% achievements, without rushing and while fully exploring every area.

- There is no replay value.
Once you’ve solved the puzzles, there’s no real reason to come back unless you missed an achievement.

Overall, Red Matter is a well-made VR puzzle game and a nice throwback to the early days of VR.
But it’s simply too short and too expensive for what it offers, even during sales.

If you’re looking for a focused puzzle experience with a decent story, it’s worth playing, just don’t buy it at full price.

Joguinho top, mostra como o feijão com arroz bem feito funciona nos jogos de VR. Uma historinha simples com um plot legal no final.
O jogo é de exploração com puzzles agradaveis e interações basicas, mas muito competente no que se propõe.

Fazia tempo que n jogava a sério no meu VR, até pelo desanimo com os jogos ruins no geral, mas esse aqui me prendeu por essas horinhas. Jogos em VR n precisam ser longos mesmo, é meio cansativo de jogar.

Comment: It's a puzzle solving game with a story. Puzzles were pretty good and the story was intriguing. The one thing that falls short is playability. With only 3.5 hours in, I completed the game while taking my time. There is no point in replaying.

Однозначно стоящая игра. Русик можно в инете намутить на сабы. Игра не очень продолжительная, но богатая на сюжет. Сюжет правда не разжевывают и до некоторых вещей предлагают додумываться самому, но так даже лучше, больше втягиваешься в повествование, да и отмосфера хороша. Визуал радует и с производительностью проблем нет.

Red Matter - одна из самых занятных VR-игр, в которые мне доводилось играть.
Неторопливый темп, продуманные и не сложные головоломки, потрясающая визуальная стилистика в духе пост-советского футуризма создают настоящее погружение. Исследовать заброшенную станцию - одно удовольствие. Игра небольшая, но насыщенная - и точно стоит своих денег. Единственное, чего не хватает - официальной русской локализации. Но даже без нее Red Matter оставляет яркое впечатление.

Totalmente en castellano y con voces.
Parece una peli del espacio de terror pero estas dentro y no es terror, terror ya que mas
bien es la ambientación.
Banda sonora brutal también y gráficos impresionantes y buena optimización.
Los puzles estan muy bien y con mecanicas VR.
En cuanto te habituas a los controles te das cuenta que estan super chulos e ingeniosos.

Red Matter is an OK game.

For the asking price of 25 bucks, I don't believe it is worth it. Buy on sale.
I took my time going through the game and only got 3.6h out of it, and I even got all the achievements.

That being said, let's shift the analysis from quantity to quality. Was that 3.6h good? I would say "yes with some caveats".
The story is pretty good. It could have done with some more fleshing out, but it was good.
The voice acting and writing was very well done, and so was the sound design. The game play mechanics are generally good - even if I have to admit, that the control system could have been done much better.

Basically, your left hand has 4 tools attached to it, of which one is: "Show mission objective" - *Thumb Stick button*.
For the sake of brevity, this is the last I will say of that.

The other tools are: A translator, a grabber and a torch. Most of the game you are constantly having to switch between these, each time having the transition take a second or two. You press A or B to cycle through them and if you do it too fast and skip the right one, or go the wrong direction, you spend a good bit of time just getting to the right tool. It get's old REAL fast.

I'm not saying that if it was done better, that I could have probably finished the game in 2h sans achievements.
I'm not saying that. I really am not.
I am just *heavily* implying that.

Here is what I believe would have worked better:
Button A: "Action A" (Example - Translate)
Button B: "Action B" (Example - Torch)
Trigger: "Action C" (Example - Grabber)

Every VR gamer knows Red Matter (I think), so I probably don't need to explain what it is. It's a simplified adventure game that has slick production values at the expense of being very, very short. If you didn't know, now you know.

I've known about this game for years and years, but only yesterday did I step foot on Mars. No, I had always thought it took place on Mars but it's really a moon of Saturn. I first saw Red Matter in action when Roger Maddy posted a short video.

Getting in there for myself made for an enjoyable couple hours. I like short games; no worries there. I also like casual games, so the linearity of the adventuring, and simplicity of the puzzling, were also fine. I have the Unreal Engine remakes of Myst & Riven for when I'm ready to play a fully featured puzzle-adventure game that can be viewed in virtual reality.

Games made like this is what I love about VR. Great graphics, excellent sound, (except the actor on comm radio, with games like this they love cringe overacting and say things like Good Job Agent! and A.S.A.P!) Immersive environment, fluid interaction with objects along with force feedback in controllers, clever puzzles that are not too difficult, cool story not to much reading. Well done team. The game was very fun. The puzzles became very challenging to me at a few points (likely skill issue). Just pay attention to all details and you wont get stuck. Try and scan everything you possibly can. Will have go back and redo the play through so that I might find the other achievements I have yet to give. Short game but a good story. Very nice fluid mechanics. Although the flashlight was almost useless and barely gave any light unless you were near an object. You don't need the flashlight for most of the game.

Cute little game, but very short and not really replayable. Would give this a neutral review if I could.

The game is interesting enough to just walk through and learn the story, but the puzzles are honestly pretty bad and the default movement speed is crazy slow. I recommend setting both of the right stick pointer functions to dash or teleport.

With a big sale, sure it's worth the playtime, but the normal asking price it a lot for something like this.

[h1] A really pretty game held back by interesting design choices [/h1]
Really this game was both a hit and miss in its so many aspects. Its graphics are outstanding and stand up as one of the best in the VR industry - yet its heavy use of forced TAA really spoils everything that is further than 3 feet away with Vaseline smeared all over it. Then, while actually playing the game the smooth locomotion itself often gave me headaches, as it would dynamically change its movement speed based on your proximity to objects. Luckily, teleportation is available, but its not my typical preferred movement option when given the choice. Finally, as a puzzle game, its fairly straight forward and didn't really strike out by giving me any "Ah-ha!" moments either.

Honestly, its a decent little game if bought at a very cheap price, however I wouldn't necessarily recommend it unless you're bored.

很不错的太空基地探索+异星解谜游戏，画面很棒，剧情也很惊艳，而且全成就也不算很难。
游戏没有死亡设定，没有跳脸惊吓，有的只是对异星恢弘基地的探索，以及对早期VR游戏就能有如此画质而叹为观止。

Отличная игра с прекрасными головоломками, графика уже успела устареть, но в ВР и такие текстуры, эффекты, тени и освещение довольно требовательны. В целом не минус для меня, тем более что в игры зачастую нужно играть, а не просто любоваться видами и предметами с телевизионной частотой развёртки.

Играл на 2070 (в разгоне), Р5 5600, 32гб озу, везде и всюду упор был в видеокарту, но 60фпс игра выдавала почти стабильно, за крайне редкими исключениями. Пришлось поставить 80фпс и множитель кадров, но на ощущения это не сильно повлияло.

По поводу головоломок, в целом все были прикольные и довольно простые, кроме одного Сейфа. Я как ни старался так и не смог найти паттер, в интернете чуть позже прочитал про [spoiler] какие-то суммы, что там +200 чего-то и тд [/spoiler]. По итогу пришлось смотреть на скрин с верным кодом, видимо брейн рут уже поглотил остатки извилин с концами.

Сам сюжет довольно прикольный и интригующий, есть забавные подсказки с самого начала, есть интересные и немного спуки моменты, жаль кнч не все локации в игре доступны к просмотру, было бы очень интересно посмотреть на реализацию такой вот космической базы, в целом у разработчиков получилась отличная игра.

П.С. В самом начале немного боялся мистики и врывов Красной Жижи, но если вы, как и я, побаиваетесь высоты для вас найдутся испытания куда страшнее и суровее)

Since I played the second part first, I'm judging Red Matter from the perspective of its successor. The game feels more like a collection of escape rooms than its narratively more sophisticated sequel. However, the puzzles are fun and the game is very nice to look at. The physics can be a little wacky. The playing time is very short, but I would definitely recommend Red Matter to fans of atmospheric puzzlers.

It's a very good VR game but not as good as you'd expect it to be after all the feedback I read.
The achievements are easy to get and you can get them all in the first playthrough if you're paying attention.
I'd say that the game is a tad creepy at times. The controls feel a bit wonky, but not to the point that it annoys you. It's fine, but could be better.
The puzzles are okay too.
I liked the game, but it won't go to the "one of the best games I played" shelf.

Good game with balanced, in terms of difficulty, puzzles. You probably will be able to manage all or almost all of them by yourself without the need to google solutions. Graphics is descent, story - interesting enough.
The only negative part - motion is too slow, you are walking like a turtle, and flying is just slightly better. Also game physics is very clunky.

[1/2025] Played on Quest 3 wireless with Meta Quest Air Link on Windows 10.
The game has been in my library since 2019 and after playing it, I should have played it much sooner. The VR interactions are well thought out and easy to understand. The graphics are really good (way better than some modern games) and the sound is atmospheric too. The puzzles are nice and not too challenging (including the safe combination, which was a simple logical puzzle, even if some people have trouble with it).
I liked the simple story and the ending.
The game time is about 3 hours and in that time I really enjoyed walking through the underground areas and exploring the story and the fate of the characters.

This game is a treat, runs buttery smooth with really pretty visuals and environments, no idea what the story meant but it sounds cool and the puzzles where fun, only complaints is the height config is a bit out of wack, running speed is god awful slow and while i have no problem with a shorter game, for almost 40 dollars maybe only consider when on sale, otherwise pretty minor complaints, I recommend.

Sci-fi adventure game with some mild horror elements. Tells a pretty good story in 3 hours of gameplay. Played on PSVR2 with 3090ti, no real issues. Some blur, re-projection at times while playing, some of the textures have that unreal engine "plastic sheen". The story is advanced via slow exploration and fairly easy puzzles. The environments are neat, retro future 1960's scifi style space base, with Soviet Union propaganda spread about. Graphics are decent. The voice acting is very good. The bulk of the story/narrative unfolds through environmental clues, and the pace of the story can be a little slow if you aren't drawn into the mystery of the base/mission. If you don't like adventure games with puzzles, or "walking sims" might not be the game for you. I do think that this is an really good interactive story telling experience / a game that really only works well in VR. Excited to play the second one now. Heard it is improved greatly over the first.

This has been an interesting little VR experience so far. I’m really liking the story and the puzzles. The puzzles aren’t extremely challenging. They’re just enough to make you think a bit, but not so much to make you need to google the solutions.

Graphics and performance are excellent. Texture work is impeccable. It seems well optimized, and it’s always refreshing to have a game work the way it is supposed to. It is crazy to me that smaller dev teams can manage to push out a game that just runs well, yet AAA devs struggle with that concept.

Whereas I’m really enjoying what I have played so far, from what I hear, it’s not a particularly long game. And it makes sense. Playing it, I can just feel that the gameplay wouldn’t translate well to some 10 hour game or something. Having said that, I bought it on sale and probably wouldn’t purchase this for for its full price of $25. But for $12.50 I think it’s well worth it!

He terminado el juego, y puedo decir que es uno de los mejores juegos de aventuras que he jugado en realidad virtual. La sensación de inmersión y de hacerte sentir que estás allí, en ese planeta extraño, esta muy lograda. El apartado gráfico me parece muy bueno, con escenarios muy detallados, gran uso de luces, sombras y reflejos.
Los puzles son lógicos e intuitivos y los controles responden con soltura. La música cumple perfectamente y acompaña a la historia, que me ha parecido muy interesante, con algunos giros de guión y alguna sorpresa. Además tiene los textos y doblaje al castellano.

El único punto negativo para mí, es su duración, depende de lo que tardes en resolver algunos de los puzles, se puede acabar en unas 4 horas.

Para mí un juego obligatorio si se tiene un casco de RV.

Great thriller puzzler that kept the mystery up until the end. Story lasted a few hours, which was just long enough. A few puzzles had me stop and think for a few minutes. Lots of small details hidden throughout the game in the objects you scan. Highly recommend playing this and I intend to tackle the sequel soon!

The only downside here is that it only somewhat supports index controllers. It works fine, but you have to find out the buttons for yourself :)

Pretty short for the price, but looks great and runs very well. Puzzles were fun (except when the piece of paper explaining the [spoiler]laser redirection[/spoiler] puzzle clipped through the floor).
It would be nice for dash to be the default setting for long range movement (had to dig into the options to find it), as the default jetpack behaviour was worse for motion sickness than the normal smooth locomotion

A prendre en promo ceci dit, entre 10 et 15 euros donc.

Au dessus c'est un peu chère pour ce que c'est.

Le jeu est visuellement très bien, rien à redire dessus, mais il est court.

J'ai mis un peu plus de 4h à le faire, aucunes réjouabilités.

Donc jeux VR très sympa si vous aimez les enigmes, de l'histoire, et l'espace.

En promo, vous pouvez y aller les yeux fermés.
