Although you did nothing wrong, you were arrested one morning. You arrived for work, but you don’t recognize your assistants. And your upbringing left you with a pervasive sense of guilt. Welcome to Playing Kafka, an adventure about the alienation of modern society as well as unresolved family issues. Hra je o opravdu zajímě zpracovaná, krásně gamifokovali život a náhled do vědomí Franze. Nejsem nějaký jeho extra fanoušek ale z díla co jsem četl mi přišlo že hra vystihuje pocity co na mě přenášela kniha při jejím čtením. nápad na ovládaní hry mi přišlo geniální. opravdu za to velký obdiv. ze začátku mi to přišlo jen lehce zmatené. moc jsem nechápal jak se hra má ovládat a hrách ovšem po pár minutách s tím nebyl problém.
Upřímně bych tuhle hru zhodnotil 9/10
- jediné mínus je za to že jsem ze začátku nechápal jak se to má ovládat ale zase to vystihovalo zmatenost jeho díl a života takže to je tak za půl bod (9.5/10)
Jsem rád že naše učitelka tuhle hru zakonponovala do výuky.

Playing Kafka je kratší adventura, která se snaží převést tísnivý svět děl Franze Kafky. Hráč se ocitá v postavách z jeho děl a prožívá marný boj s neviditelným systémem.

Hlavní myšlenkou můžeme ukázat ztracenost v labyrintu byrokracie a nesmyslných pravidel. Snaží se hráčovi zprostředkovat pocit bezmoci, kdy v systému člověk nemá žádnou kontrolu a vyšší moci pouze rozhodují o jeho osudu.

Co se mi líbilo převážně, tak jak bylo pozadí do stylu divadla. Dabing za mě taky byl skvělý, protože dokázal prohloubit se do té tísnivé atmosféry a pocitů z Kafkových knih. Za mě co bylo někdy lehce frustrující i experimentální, tak byla celkově hratelnost. Ale též bylo skvělé u té hratelnosti, že to pohybování se dost shodovalo s Kafkovým životem.

Za mě bych to doporučil všem, kterým se líbí literatura 19. a 20. století. Hlavně i pro maturanty se to hodí, protože dost informací se dozvědějí z jeho života.

Playing Kafka je atmosférická příběhovka, kde neřešíš záchranu světa, ale boj s toxickým tátou a šílenou byrokracií. Hra ti perfektně ukáže, jaký to je být úplně bezmocný proti systému, který nedává absolutně žádný smysl. Není to o tom něco porazit, ale o prožití té úzkosti.

Gameplay je klidnější, čistě o klikání a volbách v dialozích. Žádné rychlé reflexy nepotřebuješ. Hlavním plusem je neskutečný vizuál a hutná atmosféra. Zápory za mě nula, hra prostě doručila přesně to, co slíbila.

Pokud si chceš dát pauzu od klasických stříleček nebo onlinovek a zažít něco, co ti trochu zavaří mozek, běž do toho. 10/10.

Hra je o dílech Kafky a o tom, jaké mají vyvolávat pocity. Hra chce moderní formou pro mladší generace ukázat vše o Kafkovi a jeho tvorbě. Zároveň chce předat pocity, které ke Kafkovi patří. Ať už gameplayem či obsahem.

Velmi mě překvapilo poněkud intuitivní ovládání myší. Při průchodu hry jsem nenarazil na žádné chyby. Hra je nenáročná pro hardware, takže ji rozjede v podstatě skoro každý. Jediné, na co jsem hned zprvu narazil, je limitované nastavení hry, kde nejde nastavit grafika (což avšak není potřeba), ale hlavně jazyk. Bere to systémový jazyk, tak pozor na to.

Hru určitě doporučuji všem, co se nudí nebo si třeba chtějí doplnit hravou formou znalosti o Kafkovi.

3 Haziran 1924’te hayata gözlerini yuman Franz Kafka, ardında tamamlanmamış romanlar değil, tamamlanmamış sorular bıraktı.
Onun metinleri bir hikâye anlatmaktan öte, insanın varoluşuna yöneltilmiş sessiz ama ısrarcı bir sorguya dönüşür.

Kafka’yı okumak bir olay örgüsünü takip etmek değil; görünmez bir mahkemenin içine girmek gibidir. Bu nedenle Dava, Babaya Mektup ve Şato yalnızca üç ayrı metin değildir. Bunlar, otoritenin üç farklı yüzünü gösteren bir varoluş üçlemesidir.

Birinde insan neyle suçlandığını bilmeden yargılanır.
Birinde suç duygusunun kökeni çocuklukta aranır.
Birinde ise ulaşılmak istenen merkez sürekli geri çekilir.

Kafka’nın anısına bu satırları yazarken, onu bir “karamsar yazar” olarak değil; otoritenin ontolojisini en çıplak haliyle ortaya koyan bir düşünür olarak okumayı tercih ediyorum. Çünkü Kafka’nın asıl meselesi umutsuzluk değil, insanın kendi varoluşunu meşrulaştırma çabasıdır.

[h2] Var Olmak Bir Suç Mudur? – Dava [/h2]

Kafka’nın Dava’sı, suçun eylemle değil, varoluşla ilişkilendirildiği bir dünyanın kapısını aralar. Josef K. bir sabah tutuklanır; fakat neyle suçlandığını asla öğrenemez. Bir suçlama vardır ama suçun içeriği yoktur. İşte metnin ontolojik kırılması burada başlar: Eğer suç tanımsızsa, savunma nasıl mümkündür?

Bu noktada mesele hukuk değil, meşruiyettir. Dava, bireyin kendi varlığını sürekli açıklamak zorunda bırakıldığı bir düzeni gösterir. Josef K. mahkemeye karşı değil, belirsizliğe karşı mücadele eder. Otorite görünmezdir; ama işleyişi kesindir. Mekânlar kapalıdır, koridorlar uzundur, odalar dar ve havasızdır. Fiziksel sıkışmışlık, varoluşsal sıkışmışlığın yansımasına dönüşür.

Babaya Mektup, dışsal bir mahkemeyi değil, onun kökenini gösterir. Burada yargı kamusal değildir; doğrudan evin içindedir. Kafka, babasına hitap ederken aslında bir figürü değil, bir otorite biçimini analiz eder.
Eser boyunca belirgin olan şey fiziksel şiddetten çok, ölçüsüz bir emir-komuta hissidir. Baba yalnızca bir ebeveyn değil; doğruyu, yanlışı ve değeri belirleyen ilk merkezdir. Çocuk için dünya, önce onun sesiyle anlam kazanır. Bu nedenle eleştiri yalnızca eleştiri olarak kalmaz; kimliğe dönüşür.

Bu nedenle Şato, bir sistem eleştirisinden çok daha fazlasıdır. O, anlamın hiçbir zaman sabitlenemediği bir dünyayı gösterir. Bu durum, bireyi yalnızca sistem karşısında değil, kendi varlığı karşısında da askıda bırakır.

Hem bu kitapları okumuş, hem de oyun uyarlamalarını deneyimlemiş biri olarak şunu gördüm: Kafka’nın dünyası yalnızca okunacak bir dünya değil; içine girildiğinde insanı rahatsız eden bir alan. Metinlerde hissettiğim şeyle oyunlarda karşılaştığım atmosfer aynı yerden besleniyordu: Sürekli bir açıklama zorunluluğu, bitmeyen bir bekleyiş ve hiçbir zaman tam olarak ulaşılmayan bir merkez.

Dava’da insanın varlığının bile sorgulanabileceğini gördüm.
Babaya Mektup’ta bu sorgunun nerede başladığını fark ettim.
Şato’da ise ulaşmaya çalıştığımız şeyin gerçekten var olup olmadığını düşünmek zorunda kaldım.

Kafka’yı çözmeye çalıştığımda bana net cevaplar vermedi. Ama şunu hatırlattı: İnsan, çoğu zaman dışarıdaki sistemle değil, kendi içinde kurduğu mahkemeyle mücadele ediyor. Kafka’nın gücü tam da burada yatıyor. O bize yeni bir dünya kurmuyor; zaten içinde yaşadığımız dünyanın görünmeyen tarafını gösteriyor.

В этой игре нет минусов. Даже ценника! Игра создана фанатами творчества Франца Кафки, и основана на его жизни. Вас ждёт простенькая игра, лёгкая в понимании, и не усложнённая механиками, чтобы вы могли легко с ней ознакомиться. Выборы довольно сильно могут изменить ход главы, так что при обсуждении с друзьями у каждого из вас может получиться своя собственная интерпретация происходящего в этом маленьком мирке. Игра полностью озвучена, боже, как же я кайфанул от местных голосов. Они звучат аутентично, и не один голос не будет резать слух. Я до конца хотел оставаться в этом странном, загадочном мире, но увы...

流程接近50分钟的小游戏，但很好地展现了卡夫卡作品的一些特点。道具的互动、人物的移动很有趣。配音也不错。
前不久刚好在看《城堡》，游戏里的文本几乎和原文几乎一致，选项的拆分没有很大作用。整体文本简洁了很多，加上画面和操作之后，叙述更易懂更清晰了。最后开放结局也挺有意思的。

Difficile de parler de Playing Kafka (PK). Est-ce un jeu ? Est-ce divertissant ? Pédagogique ? Une farce ? Une tentative destinée à faire découvrir l’auteur ?
Je crois que, comme pour les œuvres de Kafka, on y trouve ce qu’on veut ou plutôt ce que notre sensibilité y perçoit.
En tout cas, c’est beau ; les voix sont remarquables et cela a le mérite de mettre un peu de lumière sur un des auteurs les moins appréciés des critiques. Quant à la partie jeu (puzzles, arc narratif), cliquer mène souvent à une surprise et je pense que les choix ; comme souvent ; ont une influence limitée sur l’histoire.
Je pense qu’il faut aborder PK comme une balade dans un jardin, profiter de la vue et se laisser surprendre.
Le projet mérite le coup d’œil et l’heure (ou deux) que vous y passerez.
PS : amis français, ne vous laissez pas impressionner par l’anglais utilisé dans ce jeu.
D’une part, les sous-titres sont là ; d’autre part, Kafka n’est pas célèbre pour son style, l’anglais pratiqué dans le jeu n’est pas littéraire et inaccessible.

É unha curiosidade, máis que nada. Unha pequena peza que explora, moi grosso modo, as dúas novelas longas de Kafka máis rematadas (O Proceso e O Castelo), e tamén un chisco da súa vida coa Carta ao Pai. Logra un ton absurdo, incómodo como a obra do praguense, lioso ao tempo que onírico sen apenas nada excepcional máis alá de como a realidade vai contra o protagonista. Ademais, tenta ser bastante literal.
Porén, apenas é un xogo, xa que só ten un mínimo de interacción totalmente guiada, algún puzzle evidente, e moita voz en off e texto lido.
Mais como xogo gratuíto que achega ao mundo do autor, está ben.

Empiezo diciendo que no he leído a Frank Kafka en la vida, excepto el principio de La Metamorfosis, pero esa novela no está adaptada en este juego entonces no hablaré de eso.
El juego tiene representadas 3 historias y, ya que es un juego educativo, para conocer más sus trabajos literarios, me tomé la molestia de leer un poco google porque me quedé bastante confusa con lo que estaba jugando. Pero no pasa nada, porque si lo juegas y te quedas igual que yo, aquí estoy para explicarte ☝️🤓

⚖️ The Trial: historia de aproximadamente 15-20 minutos basada en la novela del mismo nombre de 1925. Cuenta como el protagonista Josef K, es arrestado por cometer un crimen muy serio pero a su vez desconocido. Se supone que es una crítica al sistema legal que se contradice, y al jugar se puede entender que nos quedamos atrapados en un laberinto burocrático, hasta que pasan cosas que obviamente no sabía porque no me he leído la novela.

📝 Letters to the Father: segunda historia y la que más me gustó. Es muy breve, pero quizás la más real. Es una carta muy extensa y personal a su propio padre, que según leí, nunca fue entregada y permaneció en un cajón por 30 años, hasta que luego de su muerte, un amigo la encontró y la hizo pública. El juego la representó bastante bien en mi opinión, no la he leído tampoco, pero es la única historia de las 3 que no necesitas leerte los trabajos de Kafka para entender cómo la relación entre padre e hijo es complicada.

🏰The Castle: no me pregunten nada que fueron los 30 minutos más confusos de las últimas semanas. Basada en la novela de 1926, un señor conocido como K viaja a un pueblo rural lleno de nieve y tiene un trabajo que nunca llega a hacer, y también tiene que llegar a un castillo al cual nunca llega. La novela nunca fue terminada en la vida real, entonces fue representada en el juego de manera muuuy confusa. Al final te dejan hacer lo que quieras hacer pero igual no tiene ninguna consecuencia, al final esa parte nunca se llegó a escribir.

Ah, importante, es un juego narrativo y la jugabilidad se resume en dar clicks y arrastrar objetos. Aquí se viene a leer, entonces si no estás para leer durante 1 hora y confundirte un poco (porque tú tampoco leíste Kafka)… no lo juegues.
Probablemente el que sea muy fan de sus trabajos se levantó a aplaudir en su casa. No me pasó pero el concepto es interesante, ojalá encontrar más así sobre otras personalidades. Dicho esto, para ser gratis y aprender está bien pero a nivel de ejecución como juego podría haberse adaptador mejor.

Kafka is my favourite writer, and while I appreciate it’s a free game I don’t think it does his writing justice at all. It fails to adequately convey the feeling or themes, and adds new elements not present in the novels in a half-assed attempt to incorporate some not very fun gameplay.

Some media is described as “philosophical” or “political” while only nodding to those things rather than exploring them in an interesting way. In the same sense, this is the only way this game could be described as kafkaesque. A nod to, not an exploration of.

It seems the shame did outlive him after all.

Love the art style, gameplay, and voice acting. I know this was adapted from the novels, so it tells the story as it was written by Franz Kafka. But this is pretending to be a choose-your-own adventure kind of game. When in reality it is not. There is nothing (outside of the occasional achievement) that you can choose that affect the outcome of the story. This may be an overall statement about inevitability. But as someone who did several play-throughs in attempt to get different scenarios.. disappointing. This is not branch story telling. This is a Railroad track, with buttons to entertain the toddlers.

I’ve always enjoyed the works of Franz Kafka, so discovering a game based on his writings was a real treat!

It was fun to play, and I really appreciated the simple mechanics and the game’s unique artistic style.

That said, I do wish it had been a bit longer. The game only covered The Trial, Letter to the Father, and The Castle, and each story was quite condensed, focusing only on the most important moments.

I really hope the developers add more of Kafka’s works in a future update — The Metamorphosis would be amazing to see!
Overall, though, it’s a great experience, especially considering it’s completely free.

Dobrá příběhová adaptace částí z Kafkovo děl. Taková pohodová věc k nedělní kávě. Rozhodně stojí za to, lze se podle rozhodnutí dostat i do jiných zákoutích příběhu, obzvlášť v Zámku. Celou pochmurnou atmosféru vážně skvěle dotváří českej dabing, to je něco, co mi udělalo fakt radost. A ta minimalistická animace je za mě od autorů trefa do černého 😁👍

Гра дуже мінімалістична, ігролад абсолютно банальний й позаяк вибори в грі не дуже на щось впливають, багато взаємодій видаються зайвими. Сюжетно ідеї зчитуються, але мені страшенно не вистачало деталей, все настільки стисло, настільки обмежено, наче читаєш витяги зі шкільної хрестоматії, при цьому багато сцен та й гра сама по собі повільні, не завжди там, де це було б потрібно.
Загалом в це можна пограти менше години, але це справді радше коротенький переказ, ніж щось повноцінне, хіба друга історія (про батька) ілюстративна та зрозуміла як є.

Why yes, I did have to get up and walk in a few circles when the ending of The Castle happened.
Given that this is broken down by story, I will do the same.

I knew a lot of the context (or lack there of) of The Trail, so it was easier to follow than it probably would be going in blind. Obviously the point is to be confusing and frustrating, but some details that were included in the actual story were missed that would provide to the absurdity. For example, you probably wouldn't even know that the 'court' is held in the attic of some building save for one throw away line said by Leni. Beyond the missing details, the initial confusion on how to actually play did provide a bit of... I don't know how to word it, 'wrong-footedness'? It really fit the theme.

Letter To My Father was the best done section. The way it breaks from the initial form of game play was interesting, and it really did give you the feeling of trying to string together this long and deeply honest letter from Franz. The game does a wonderful job of demonstrating the relationship between the two. Also, props for condensing a 45 PAGE LETTER into something so concise.

I didn't know anything about The Castle before starting it. I knew there was a castle? But little else. This section also suffers from some of the problems of The Trial, where crucial details that are in the text are left out. This caused me to seek out the novel, or at least a few summaries to see what I missed. Yes, it is Kafka's writing, and it is esoteric and weird, but the confusion from the game and the confusion from the text feel different.
That being said, I also understand that it's a beast of a thing to condense into a small (and FREE) game. As stated above, the way the 'ending' is interpreted is genius. Some of this also might come down to translations? I don't know if this game was originally in English or if the devs are, and again, FOR FREE, so I'm not going to be too hard on it.

Definitely a good interpretation of the works. I liked the simplistic style and the strange surrealness of some of the imagery.

Reviewing this game comes with the very necessary consideration of the fact that this is an educative game front and center. So while this might not be the correct pick for everyone (and for every gaming occasion), this is an excellent free resource in pursuit of using video games as a tool for teaching and learning. It's tailor-made for it and succeeds its goal brilliantly. It adapts some of Kafka's writing succinctly and plays very intentionally with its design in a way to honor Kafka's style and themes. Looking forward to using it in my own lesson plans going forward!

Proces měl bejt highlight. Jenže jsem byl ztracenej. A ne tím správným způsobem. Děj skáče, rozhodnutí jsou divně mrtvý, a místo paranoie jsem cítil spíš frustraci. Chápu záměr, ale hele – zmatenost se dá udělat chytře. Tohle mě spíš házelo do zdí.

Dopis otci? Co to bylo? Vím, že jsem to spustil, ale jestli jsem to dohrál nebo si jen uvařil čaj, fakt netuším. Místo toho tam mohla bejt Proměna – tam by Kafka konečně mluvil skrz tělo. Takhle to byla tichá výplň.

A pak Zámek. Čistá psycho jízda. Nejlepší část. Atmosféra skvělá, postavy zvláštní, ale přesně na hraně uvěřitelnosti. Fakt mě to drželo. Chtěl jsem dál, i když jsem věděl, že tam nikdy nedojdu.

Celkově? Není to pro každýho. A ani pro mě to nebylo vždycky ono. Ale zůstalo to se mnou. Možná právě proto, že to nebylo příjemný. Kafka by se asi uchechtl. Každopádně příjemná a hodně krátka interaktivka se skvělým dabingem, kterou doopravdy zvládnete dohrát za hodinu vašeho času.

"Playing Kafka" is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam for god knows what reason. This dour and depressing point and click adventure game exhumes the corpse of Franz Kafka to tell a dimly related narrative about how bad modern society is or something. Honestly I've seen worse abuse of Kafka than this game so I guess we can let that bit slide.

However, this does need to be reviewed as if it was a game... and you could get 100% of whatever this has to offer by watching a Youtube playthrough... or in other words, playing this game doesn't give you anything more than just seeing it. And that means it's failed in the function of being a game. Well, it is a mobile app.

In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality minimalist low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games.

On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game.

Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on.

Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it.

Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it?

Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.

Well, a strange expperience for me. Game wise it's all fine, execution is good, but I struggle with the topic. It's depressing to me, and while I had my share of depression over the course of my life, I'm glad to gone through it and I don't need it any longer. Hence I can't establish any connection the the protagonist or the events in the game, but that's obviously not the game's fault, but of the source material. Try it out and see for yourself, made easy by that fact that it's free.

Hru jsem procházela několikrát, abych zjistila, zda se liší děj a výsledek příběhu na základě rozhodnutí - pokaždé jsem se dozvěděla nějaké nové informace, ale na konec příběhu neměly různé scénáře nijak velký vliv.

Kdyby se mohl Kafka vyjadřovat ke hrám, které jsou podle jeho děl, umím si představit, že by s touhle hrou souzněl. Hra je totiž velmi netradičně pojatá, uchovává si tajemnou atmosféru a pomaličku se zarývá pod kůži. Charles Games nám tuhle hru dokonce naservírovali zadarmo, takže zde vidím jen a jen klady. Hrála jsme to na Twitch.tv/Luciefog a všichni včetně mě, jsem si to náramně s českým dabingem užili.

This is a short dramatisation of three Kafka stories, each of which are fittingly padded with pointless busywork. Adaptations are difficult, and of these the Castle is probably the most successful. Bobok's treatment of the Dostoevsky story of the same name was a preferable approach, in which the additional hypertext teaches the player about the story and its setting and context, while making much less of an attempt to gamify it. Playing Kafka is neither here nor there – neither fun nor insightful, yet it is free and not long, so worth a look.
