システムはこってるけど、プレイしていて爽快さとかあんまりない
何ともいえないベルトアクション！

一般的に、この手のジャンルは操作がシンプルなのが基本ですが、
本作は格ゲーの派生作品なのを意識してか、妙に操作が多いです
攻撃ボタンは弱中強と分かれており、それに必殺技にゲージを消費しての強化必殺
ライン移動にブロッキングと、まるで格ゲーのよう
キャラの性能も、パチモンキャラ以外はかなり差異があるので、頑張って作った感じはする

ただねぇこのゲーム、あんま面白くないのよ
普通の敵を相手している分には楽しいけれど、後半になるとホーミング弾を撃ってくる
クソ敵が出てきて、もうひたすら攻撃され続ける
一体これの何が面白いというのか
レベルを上げないとまともに戦えないし、レベルを上げたところで
フル強化状態で戦えるステージ１の性能に戻るだけ
やりがいが全くないよ！
この手のゲームのお約束のアイテムボックスがやたら固いのも意味が分からない
なぜ補給アイテム手に入れるために、箱を何十発も殴らせるのか

値段を加味すれば、十二分に遊べるゲームだとは思うけれど、
必要以上には期待しない方がいいよ！
ダルイ飛び道具や空中敵にイラつかされるだけだから……

It’s that kind of game isn’t very good but once you start playing, it’s hard to stop.

It’s a cute 2D arcade beat-them-up. Your movement is limited to 2 lanes and so are the enemies’, it has several levels and a boss fight at the end of each, about 80% of the gameplay is just defeating wave after wave of enemies, repetitive and not exciting. Besides the AI is dumb, enemies either remain still or walk away when they can hurt you, and when you switch lanes you are almost always to get a hit.

The good part is that you can choose from a few girls and pick your own favorite color, each girl uses a different weapon (sword, hammer, spear) and you unlock new girls later. The attacks are visually satisfying and the girls look cute, that's why I said hard to stop playing at the beginning. I picked the spear girl because her regular attacks can do good damage and looks great. Also, when multiple enemies are killed the shiny coin eruptions look good, and the 3D Japan location background makes the game a bit less boring.

You level up and earn talent points for stats and skills, but when I quit after 5 levels and returned, my hero’s progress reset to level 0, while the stage progress was saved. I was forced to lower the difficulty because a level 0 hero can’t survive, and I didn’t want to punish myself for others' mistakes. The boss is significantly difficult but not unbeatable, because when you lose you still get points for upgrades, you can continue at the boss stage and deal more damage.

I completed the game in 1.5 hours, it has some replay value since each girl has different skills, but the main reason is the final boss fight is not finished - the boss escapes halfway and the game ends, I can only think it requires a second run to fully complete, but I don’t see a reason to replay again. Another thing is the keyboard bindings feel odd: in the menu Esc is confirm, during gameplay it’s B.

It's not a very charming game but playable.

sekarang aku paham, dulu saat menanam bunga selalu saja banyak yang layu dan tidak mekar, ternyata penyebabnya karena aku terlalu mencemaskan kehidupannya dan terlalu merawatnya secara berlebihan, namun setelahnya aku sudah mengurangi hirauku terhadap bunga yang aku tanam dan merawat dengan seadanya, namun bunganya malah berseri dan bermekaran dengan indah.

Side scrolling beat ‘em up featuring cute girls with big weapons.The game has a surprising level of depth with lots of different movesets, skills, great pixel animations, and even foreground to background transitions. Some battles are a bit rough and maybe they are balances for co-op but as a single playthrough you can very easily get stuck in a stun loop. Also, moves/abilities aren’t particularly explained so you’ll have to do a lot of testing to see what works.

10年以上前の作品ですが、非常に面白く他のシリーズも遊びたくなりました。
キャラも豊富で可愛くそれぞれ特徴があるので、レベルを上げる楽しみもあります♪

グラフィックや操作性も良く、1ステージあたり7～8分程度（難易度にもよりますが）でクリアできるので隙間時間に遊べるのも◎。

同時に4人まで可能なオンライン協力プレイや対戦は、人が全くいない為絶望的です（涙）

アクションゲームとして非常にクオリティが高く気軽に楽しく遊べる作品ですので、紹介PVを見て気になった人にお勧めです☆彡

I was able to get back into this game recently I played it to work on some achievements. I tried to load it up today and the game won't load, it is just stuck on a black screen with a character frozen on the bottom. There are some very extensive fixes with drivers, or downloading random stuff. Which is completely unnecessary and shouldn't BE necessary for a steam game to run.

В общем, когда я впервые увидел эту игру, и попробовал в нее поиграть, я офигел от управление. а точнее. невозможности настроить. в следствии забросил. Но вот сейчас купив, и, убив час на настройку этого управления (в котором мало логики но ладно) я смог ознакомится с игрой. В целом, игра очень приятная, за последние года в жанре, та и в общем, это наверное одна из интересных представителей. Если кратко, в игре есть минимум 2 вида парирования, 3 кнопки под разные атаки, из которых делается комбо, вроде есть разновидность спешлов, но я не сильно понял как другие использовать. Но такого набора инструментов, я давно не видел, тот же Sor 4 хороший, но не на столько, дает возможностей что ли. Короче рекомендую, игра сейчас стоит копейки, а онлайн еще работает

我是从街机的时代过来的，这种类型的游戏非常喜欢。可选角色也很讨喜，但DLC角色不只贵，还不好用，无奈LV99上限必需买DLC，不买只能升到LV50，连技能都点不满。解锁全角色只要通关困难难度就行。联机已经鬼服。

É engraçado, parece que esse jogo levou uma nota 64/100 na média do METACRITIC, porém pra mim é nota 10/10... principalmente se incluirmos nesse pacote as duas DLCs que acrescentam duas novas personagens com um move set diferente. Eu já havia jogado esse jogo no XBOX 360, mas não tinha as DLCs, recomendo pegar completo, se você gosta de BEAT EM UP com elementos de RPG e curte um PIXEL ART, só vai...

Fiz os 100% e as duas únicas conquistas meio chatas do jogo é a de cair pegando todas as moedas e a de chegar no nivel 99 com um personagem. De resto é só alegria, bem fácil de fazer e bem divertido, se souber usar bem as personagens, principalmente as de dlc.

Phantom Breaker battlegrounds brings up a lot of nostalgic memories. It belongs to the same era of beat em ups as Scott Pilgrim and Castle-Crashers. Aka,the formula was upgraded to include "leveling up",assigning growth points into stats,and buying new moves! Technically River City Ransom was the first to do that but it was a welcoming trend other devs were finally catching on as to why that particular title was so revered in the retro gaming community.

Phantom Breaker Battle Grounds also borrowed a few tricks from Guardian-Heroes and Fatal Fury classic wherein you could jump between planes in the foreground and background adding much needed evasion options for when you found yourself being outnumbered.

Story-wise Phantom is pretty much The Wish-master. In other words,an evil old geezer that will promise to manifest your deepest desire yet will also find a way to either twist it into something negative or trick you into fighting people you care about just to have it granted. He's not a pleasant fellow and this time he is responsible for mask-like parasites that emerge from big colorful eggs before latching onto reluctant human hosts,gradually turning Japan's populace into brain-dead minions and wacky monsters! (Seems as if someone at the office really liked Alien. I get it! Alien truly is one of the best sci-fi horror films of all time!)

Beyond the bare-bones plot to serve as your motivation,every girl protagonist is refreshingly unique play-style wise and there are a couple more characters as DLC. (Kurisu from Stein's Gate being one of them!)

Yeah, I don't like dlc price gouging either but at least MAGES kept it very affordable. You could buy "everything" bundled together without worrying about if you will have enough spare change afterwards for your rent,utilities,and groceries.

Oh,and the game has a ridiculously catchy chiptune sounding soundtrack that is more "fire" than it has any right to be! (Made me reminisce to some of the better compositions in the Megaman series.)

Is there a reason to get this version over the "ultimate" version? I cannot really say for certain. Some gamers are purists thus might prefer the classic iteration. Others will obviously want the extra content and further refinements Ultimate will provide.

Regardless the case, if you got this as a gift from a friend and it is already in your backlog it is a great beat-em-up worthy of at least a few play-thrus! Had this been in my hometown's corner store arcade during the 90's I would have missed a lot more days of school! (Glad I dodged that particular bullet! Phew!)

没事翻翻库存，突然发现这游戏绝版了，很不错的游戏，画风非常可爱，就是默认键位有点反人类，改键还得去找文件，懒得改键的话建议手柄玩。可以实现一台设备两个人游玩（一人键盘一人手柄即可调出2P，单键盘无法调出，不知道为什么）。还有，新版马上就要发售了，之前的试玩中发现是多了几个可用角色，比如那个boss，其他的不知道有什么新内容，总之我还是非常期待新版的，很休闲的横板闯关小游戏，希望新版出了之后能有更多人能发现它！

I really like this game. A very fun Beat 'em up with multiple characters to choose from, and great ways to do combos. It's one of those games that I enjoyed so much, that I decided to level up every character to the Max. despite having no associated unlockables or achievements for it.

Controls felt great, responsible, and the music is just awesome. The Stage 1 theme in particular kicks ass, especially the variants when you play as Kurisu and Frau (DLC characters). I can't say much about the voice acting because I muted it, leaving only Music and Sound Effects.

It's a little short and the story is kinda eh, but the gameplay is where it's all at. There are a couple things I don't like, however. I don't like that this game locks level progression at Lv. 50, and sells a DLC to remove that unlock. The Kurisu DLC also expands the Level limit from 50 to 99. You are not able to upgrade everything on your character if you don't have this DLC.

It's possible that the game was originally balanced so you need to mix your upgrades and stuff, but it still feels weird. I bought all the DLCs long time ago before actually playing this game, and well, it seems that is no longer on the Steam store, sadly.

There's a remake coming out. I do hope at least it lives up to the original, though. I don't agree when companies just gets rid of the original experience when there's a remake or a collection in the way / available. Not sure if this game needed a remake too, it's fine as is!

The game isn't very lengthy, though my lengthy play-time was because I levelled all characters to maximum and got every achievo. Still, despite some of its flaws (story being kinda eh), I still recommend it. Now, if only people could still buy it...

I do prefer the classic version, and it's the one I have beaten it completely and the one I'm reviewing. I tried the demo version of Ultimate and thought something was off. Long live the O.G.![/b]

I bought it because it looks like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game which I only have on the Xbox 360.

Game progress not saved after quitting, I don't like that, starting all over again is a pain.

It's fun! But for a short time. It's repetitive and some characters are initially stronger than others.

A Beat 'em up game with a Fighting-style control scheme that locks the players in two side scrolling lanes instead of allowing the free roam of enemies in a 3D plane over a 2D camera. That's [b]brilliant[/b], in my opinion. I always had trouble with depth perception in regular Beat 'em ups, as well as not finding much joy in 1 on 1 traditional Fighting. However, [b]this game nailed it[/b] for me. Ten distinct characters with their own combos, specials, and techniques, eight somewhat repetitive levels to play, five difficulty levels, customizable stats and skill trees, gorgeous sprite work, an amazing soundtrack, and up to four players co-op, local and online. [b]I hope the upcoming remaster does it even better[/b].

A somewhat unknown or perhaps forgotten gem from 2015 that I believe is about to return to the Steam store. I saw a YouTube video that said this was originally a PSP game. It's a retro scrolling beat-em up (right up my alley) with beautiful pixel art backgrounds and colour palette, great music and satisfying game play and pacing.
If you love games like Turtles in Time, Scott Pilgrim the video game, Streets of Rage or Final Fight this is for you. Don't procrastinate, just get it and enjoy it.

Arcade mode intro: Wall of text. Who? What?
Tutorial: Super wall of text, which I obviously couldn't remember
Arcade mode on normal: spamming strong attack will get you anywhere. I was too bored to finish it, but got decently far.
Enemies: Some are too dumb, some spam ranged attacks creating a wall of stun. Sigh.

Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds is a beat 'em up spin off game for the game Phantom Breaker, which is an arcade fighter. Unlike most beat 'em up games that are in a like 2.5D space, this game is in a 2D space with an ability called "slip switch". Slip switch lets you jump between two 2D platforms kind of like riding a rail in a sonic game and jumping between rails. The enemies can also jump between these two platforms at will, which gets annoying since the controls aren't super responsive. The game itself plays like an arcade fighter, in movement and attacks/combos. Some parts the difficulty is insane tho as some enemies have these projectile explosion attacks that can movement lock you so you are stuck taking damage cause they can just rapid fire. They are mostly in the finally level which is more frustrating. I ended up beating the game in 96mins. There is a co-op mode and a PvP mode which was probably cool but the game is dead now with 0 active players. The game has also been removed from Steam so it can no longer be purchased. The fighting game it is based off is available tho. While the way the game is played and how it uses the space and arcade fighter mechanics was really cool, the game itself is pretty mediocre for the beat 'em up genre. I had fun playing the game but by the like 3rd stage the game felt pretty stale. Also not having played Phantom Breaker I didn't know about the characters at all so it was hard to care about the story. I would recommend but you can't get the game, easily at least, anymore. After doing some reading the game was removed March 4, 2024. Rocket Panda Games acquired the Phantom Breaker IP from MAGES in June 2022 and apparently because the game was originally developed for the Xbox 360 the engine they used was too old to update or add to the game. Instead they decided to do a remake/remaster that is being released some time in 2024. I think I might buy the remake/remaster just to see how different it is.
