This game is AMAZING. It's my personal comfort game and my 2nd favorite game. There is just something so capturing and comforting about this game. Whether it be some of the best controls I've seen in a climbing game, the low skill floor and high skill ceiling, or the simple nature of each mountain. I dont know, but i keep coming back.
The game is honestly stunning at times, while still being intimidating. The atmosphere is amazing for every mountain.
The game eases you into everything, and throws challenges that dont feel unfair and impossible, but instead feel purposeful and rewarding. Some climbs prepare you for later ones, but are still fun on their own. Each mountain is different, even when they feel the same. Most of the mountains are extremely fair.
The game puts new, but unique things in your way, but also gives you tools to help without undermining the actual challenge in the first place.
If you dont think youll like this game, give it a fair try. Even if you dont like climbing games, give it a fair try.

I really wish I liked this game, and I think me not liking it is entirely my own fault. It emulates the experience of rock climbing really well, studying the wall, making a route, inevitably failing and eventually overcoming a difficult challenge. This sort of translation of the real life experience to gameplay is this game's most impressive trait.
My problem with it, is the actual translation results in me screwing aroudn in a unity physics sim for multiple minutes and losing those minutes of progress due to the difficulty of the game and the unpredictability of the physics engine, and while I believe most people have the patience to tolerate the frustration of the lost time, I simply do not. Every moment I was playing this game I was just thinking "Man, I would much rather just do this challenge in real life instead".
Overall, yes it is a skill/patience issue, I acknowledge this game is in fact good, but is simply not for players like me.

Игра отличная, пушка, имба, бомба и так далее! Передаёт атмосферу горных восхождений на все 100%. Не могу передать те эмоции, когда смог достичь вершину горы, не смотря на падения и многие попытки снова и снова подняться. Игра учит терпению, холодному расчёту и что нельзя никогда сдаваться. Редко какая игра находит во мне такой отклик, как эта. Что меня ещё радует, это что игра абсолютно не казуальная и не ведёт игрока за ручку, а даёт возможность самому во всём разобраться и собраться с мыслями. Ещё есть steam workshop, где можно скачать кучу других карт. Так что, бегом брать Peaks of Yore! Уверен, что не пожалеете :)

Really good game! Shocked how beginner friendly it is, considering how hyped it is as an overly-difficult endurance game. Really goes to show how it appeals to a wide range of players! On to the final three climbs of Fundamentals!

A falta de terminar los últimos picos del libro avanzado puedo valorar Peaks of Yore con la convicción de no sólo haber descubierto uno de los mejores juegos de la generación, sino quizá una nueva pasión por algo que (aún de momento) me resulta tan ajeno como la escalada.
Si algo le debo a Death Stranding es ayudarme a ver que los verbos que damos por sentados en videojuegos son reconfigurables, y que andar, como cualquier acción relacionada con la coordinación de nuestras extremidades, tiene un potencial increíble como "fantasía" de desempoderamiento. Por eso creo que gracias a este descubrimiento veía con una lente distinta cosas como Getting Over It o Jump King, siempre desde la barrera, pero podía entender cuánto de esa frustración que ya ayudó socialmente a desestigmatizar From Software se podía convertir muy fácilmente en material de ragequit para streamings insustanciales o, por suerte, en elaboraciones mecánicas complejísimas que pudieran abrir nuevo camino en mecánicas que ya consideramos automáticas. Es el caso de caminar, claro, pero también de escalar.
Siendo un niño que se crió con Assassin's Creed y Uncharted siempre percibí la escalada como una performance, como algo simplemente estético que abría un nuevo eje de movilidad, un destensor de gameplay en lugar de un sistema en sí mismo. Y por eso me fijé en Peaks of Yore.
Porque ya no solo era una apuesta estimulante desde lo visual, abordaba la escalada desde una perspectiva distinta (una primera persona más reminiscente a The Climb en realidad virtual), basándose en agarres y en destreza pura; y de repente, como si me atravesara un rayo, sentí que se estaba abriendo una puerta. Que aunque pudiera vincular este juego con esas máquinas de viralidad en un vacío, quizá había algo mucho más profundo y con mucha más verdad.
Y así empecé.
Al principio sentí tanto la ilusión de descubrir algo nuevo y ajeno como la fricción (bendita fricción) de no entender del todo el funcionamiento. Las físicas me resultaban extrañas, la sujeción de las manos se me escapaba la mayoría de las veces porque no era capaz de controlar la cámara, sentí falta de confianza en dónde iba a llegar con eso, algo dubitativo de si había sido un impulso consumista lanzarme otro juego al backlog infinito con el que no tenía posibilidad de conectar. Pero aún con todo eso, escalé el primer pico. Y cuando conseguir hacer mi primer salto y subí al molino, saltó la primera chispa.
Y luego aprendí a usar las cuerdas y a medir la velocidad; descubrí los nuevos agarres y entendí el ritmo de mis brazos, incluso empecé a impulsarme, muy poquito, en tramos cortos, pero con cada aceleración y cada llegada me sentía cada vez mejor.
Y llegaron los primeros picos largos, de varios tramos, y las cruxes. Y me caía, y me frustraba pero, por primera vez en mucho tiempo, acostumbrado a perder y a abandonar o como mucho a buscar un camino más sencillo a la primera de cambio, la conexión que estaba sintiendo con las articulaciones de ese monigote en blanco y negro era inexplicable. Y me levantaba. Y lo volvía a intentar.
Y llegué a saltar.
Y a entender el ritmo, y la gravedad, la velocidad pero sobretodo la confianza. De repente estaba en el libro intermedio y veía los recorridos como una oportunidad de practicar y no sólo un objetivo a cumplir. De repente entendía el proceso sin obsesionarme con el resultado.
Y entonces, después de encallarme durante varios días en el mismo punto del mismo pico en el libro avanzado, decido escribir esto.
Con la confianza de que lo conseguiré pero sin la presión de llegar a un objetivo. Pudiendo escribir sin ver unos créditos porque confío suficiente en mi experiencia para poder articular unos pensamientos sin basarme en unos criterios aleatorios que siempre me han hecho sentirme algo incapaz. Y es que quizá escalar tiene mucho que ver con escribir, con pensar. Con vivir.
No creo que Peaks of Yore me haya cambiado la vida, no creo que un juego deba ni pueda hacer eso porque el peso del arte tiene que estar en hacernos sentir, en descubrirnos a través de las experiencias de otros, pero un cambio se construye con mucho tiempo y mucho cuidado. Sí creo que Peaks of Yore me ha despertado un gusto por escalar, por escribir, por hacer, que es difícil de explicar sin sentir la adrenalina pero sobretodo la disciplina de dejar que el placer recupere su sitio y esté codo a codo con la frustración, sin dejar que gane la batalla.
Tengo muchísimas ganas de ver a dónde me lleva.

starting off easy and getting pretty hard early on but with enought practice you'll make it through to the final peaks.

Tons of fun, you can choose to casually enjoy it or try to master the movement system, and there are tons of different mountains to choose from with their own gimmicks. Some are long and enduring, some are short but difficult, some are scenic, some are easy, etc. There's a lot to like for anyone that likes climbing and movement systems.

This is probably one of the best games I've ever played. I just finished Solemn Tempest for the first time, and oh boy, was it fun. I can't wait to play the DLC and try some of the harder modes, like you fall you die. But overall, this game doesn't really have a story, which means I have to deduct points for that. But overall, it's such a good game that I would call it a 9/10.
I highly recommend the game, but it does get quite a bit hard at the end of the game. Solemn Tempest (the last climb) took me about 40–55 hours to beat, give or take a few hours. But if you are up to the challenge, it's quite rewarding (you don't actually have to beat the last two mountains if you don't want anything too challenging, technically they are "post-game", and anything before the last two mountains probably won't take anyone more than 2 hours of attempts for some of the more late game climbs).
P.S. Eldenhorn sucks, and it should be legally considered torture. Please, Anders, delete that mountain from existence.
I absolutely despise this game with every inch of my heart. Everytime I fall my blood pressure spikes and I need to punch a random family member. Every climb feels like a chore that can take hours. Missed handholds make me cry scream everytime. I have sunk too many hours into this game full of hatred to justify why I play this.
10/10 Will continue to play whenever I'm bored.
At first glance, this looks like one of those many dumb streamer rage games, or even just a rage game in general. But I'm here to tell you that that's not the case.
Now, I'm not saying that this game isn't hard, it most certainly is, but it won't pull mean tricks, be unfair or have any other hallmarks of any rage game. This game is something special. It mimics an authentic mountain climbing experience that's a fun time for everyone! I highly recommend this experience.

Quite possibly one of the best games I've ever played. All the positive reviews are positive for a reason, this game has some of the most intuitive movement of any game of its type, and mastering the peaks feels, well, peak. From the first time you summit Greenhorn's Top, to the moment you conquer the great Solemn Tempest (maybe even learning to speed run all the mountains in between), the game will always leave you wanting more, even after your 50th fall trying to get past that stupid crux. Can't wait to dump another 200 hours into the game.

You're an 1800s version of Alex Honnold and you're something of a Promethean legend considering that the birds what to murder you in cold blood and you try to your very best effort to reach the peaks to acquire some stamps of the gods to achieve your destiny.
You like collecting trash covered in seagulls' dung because they remind you that your suffering is real after innumerable falls even though you manage to not die for whatever reason.
this game is indeed a psychological horror, but somehow your hands aren't bleeding even after you grab onto thorns multiple times. your limps will look like noodles. you'd forget briefly that you're not currently playing Octodad. you will also convince a young boy partake your dangerous undertaking like when people were inspired by Steve-O on MTV and ended up doing dumb things. yes you do actually get to see the boy climb without a rope. once you're done, you're back home with your trusty gramophone while cleaning off dungs from stuff people left behind from places.
I'll say this, if you struggle with motion sickness this might be difficult to get into. you're dangling from weird angles and swinging yourself to catch momentum. you'll also be holding on to your mouse for deal life and I wouldn't recommend it for people with sores. you'll also be holding your breath a lot and it's generally very tense, even after you find the right momentum which tends to make it a bit easier.
Upon heaving yourself over the final ledge of Ymir's Shadow, the most arduous peak in the Great Gales, you feel your soul become at peace with the world. This epiphany is cut short by a package in the mail, which details [spoiler]two more peaks up north in the frozen landscape that have yet to be conquered by any soul[/spoiler]. Pack your chalk, crampons, and ropes, though I doubt it will make much of a difference.
Peaks of Yore is a climbing game where you scale mountains, boulders and buildings one hold at a time, leading to you getting roped into a flow state throughout the whole level. If you don't pay attention or accidentally let go of a hold for a second it can be over meaning you will have to start again from the bottom.
Whenever I play this game my hands genuinely sweat on the longer routes especially when climbing free solo without ropes or a harness. Looking down is actually scary when you are far into a run and the heights of the later levels get fairly intimidating, you are best to just lock in and remain calm, if you stop for too long you can sometimes lose the groove a bit.
The game starts with some simple maps that ease the player in, allowing them to get a hold of the mechanics by climbing some fairly straightforward mountains.
Then you move onto bouldering which involves shorter maps with trickier, more technical movements being required to reach the end of the routes.
Finally you go on to the advanced peaks which combine the finer movement of bouldering with the long routes and cruxes you can find in the fundamentals category, this is where the game becomes quite challenging. If you beat the advanced peaks you then unlock a final mountain that is just stupidly big and I haven't climbed this yet.
Moving onto the DLC, the DLC peaks introduce two new holds to the game as well as cracks and while there are less maps than featured in the base game they seem a lot more varied and they really mix up the scenery as well as the sort of movements you need to make. You get pushed out of your comfort zone here and it makes for more interesting gameplay, some of my favourite peaks are definitely in the DLC so I think it is well worth getting the complete edition if this game peaks yore interest.

нет, просто нет. когда ты отскакиваешь ото льда вместо того, чтобы в него вцпепиться и так несколько раз подряд, из-за чего ты летишь с высоты 2000 метров. пошёл ♥♥♥♥♥ на разрабе отсталый дол6оё6. искусственная сложность. на момент снежных гор я уже могу летать как супермен, но, увы, в игре нет стабильного способа засейвиться. ни о каком навыке речь идти и не может, молишься чтобы ты упал под нужным углом. в итоге летишь просто смотришь как бьешься об маленькие склоны без возможности что-то сделать
сэкономьте деньги, а главное здоровье и нервы. оно вам не надо поверьте
спустя ещё несколько попыток пишу, разраб тупой сын потаскухи. второй гитлер, я хз. просто отродье которое ненавидит все людское
UPD: прошёл я солемн темпест этот, еле еле. оно того не стоит, те эмоции которые я испытал улетев несколько раз с 5 и 6 тыс. метров сильно перевешивают эмоции от покорения вершины). ну не должна эта игра быть про такой невыносимый хардкор. ну хочешь ты на разработчике чтобы стримеры/ютуберы балванчики наваливали басов и эмоциии падая и теряя ЧАСЫ прогресса, ну сделай ты им отдельный режим усложненный, а мне обычному пареньку дай порешать джамп пазлы и без того стрессовые, сделай шорткаты я не знаю, что-то придумай. в итоге последний удачный подъем занял примерно 1 час 40 минут, это при том что я использовал большие скипы и в целом долго не мешкался на месте! это же вообще пи3dec. как рядовой игрок, который посмотрел трейлер, увидел адекватные по размерам скалодромы и решил "о прикольно, куплю и кайфану, повешу на скалах", должен справляться с этим? просто дропнуть игру за которые заплатил деньги, потому что разраб промышляет ложной рекламой? тьфу. а я же ещё длц купил, которое поговаривают сложнее чем темпест) 6ляяяя я же очумею если там ещё одна гора под 10 км будет.
причем до темпеста игра прям конфетка, ты ей одержим, тебе нравится методично подниматься, продумывать маршруты, изредка рискуя. магнезия, веревки, альпинистские ботинки и прочие разблокируемые предметы, все это смак. но увы в конце ожидает огромная куча кала в виде размазанного маршрута, который ты физически устаешь проходить. у меня болит кисть, я залил клавиатуру и мышь потом, мне один раз пришлось прокапывать свичи техническим спиртом потому что клавиша W перестала работать из-за пота) 7500 грёбанных метров, причем сам маршрут не идёт строго вверх, он идёт змейкой, растянут искусственно. сложных прыжков на весь маршрут дай бог штук 20-25, остальные зацепы созданы чтобы тебя измотать.
я, конечно, понимаю, что в реальности забраться на эверест(особенно в те времена) это реальный подвиг, но я то играю в видеоигру, сижу перед монитором, мне такая передача опыта наxyu не нужна опять же)
ну и про хвалебные отзывы, посмотрел я профили данных индивидов, у половины просто анлокнута прогрмаммой ачивка за темпест(причем в наглую без сопутствующих ей ачивок), вторая половина пишет дифирамбы не дойдя даже до продвинутых маршрутов(те которые по 300,500, 900 метров), что уж там говорить про темпест и обучалку к ней(на 2100 метров или 2400 уже не помню). выводы делайте сами, я таких называю внимание6ляgями и нетакусями. это их выбор, не осуждаю, наоборот, восхищен способностями к выживанию в обществе где таких бьют ногами. браво!

Peaks of Yore sort of made me realize my love for climbing games. I don't know why, but conquering the summit is so rewarding. I love the gameplay to bits. The variation in gameplay with the different holds and threats is refreshing without being outlandish.
My ONLY quarrel so far with the game is the achievements. At some point I decided I loved the game enough to start chasing certain achievements, free solo this, climb that. Later I realized there was an achievement for free soloing the entire roster of peaks and boulders. Okay, that's pretty difficult, but well within the spirit of the game. Then I learned that there's an achievement for playing the whole game in wally mode where a damn seagull is constantly antagonizing you, and yet another mode for two birds. This immediately sapped all my will to chase any of the achievements for this game, and by extension playing the game in general. I love the game, but I'm not going to sit down for 600 hours just to torture myself like that.
One of the most frustratingly difficult yet immensely satisfying games I've ever played. Very few other games can match the feeling you'll get summiting some of the later climbs for the first time. The movement is super in depth and fun to master, and between the base game and the dlc there's a LOT of content here. Overall, I cannot recommend this game enough, please play it I beg you
Fun for anyone who likes a good challenge
This game is one of the few games that I can say, in my opinion, is a 10/10. The gameplay is fun, the learning curve is perfect, the atmosphere is cosy, I could go on. I have experienced a rollercoaster of emotions from this game, from the lowest of lows (I fell at the LAST jump of a 6 hour climb), to the highest of highs (beating that same mountain the next attempt). Everyone and their mother should play Peaks of Yore.
Started playing Cairn today. What an awesome game! And still Peaks of Yore might just be the best climbing game currently available.

Умственные способности резко снижаются. Даже простой шаг вперёд даётся невероятными усилиями. Останавливаться нельзя, есть риск не найти сил на ещё один шаг, уснуть и умереть. Даже современные устройства вроде кислородных баллонов не спасают от высотной болезни. Поэтому у меня вызывают искреннее восхищение альпинисты и скалолазы, которые решались покорять высочайшие вершины мира ещё в конце 19-го века.
Тогда у них не было синтетических непромокаемых курток, кислородных масок, особо прочных верёвок. Были кошки, руки, мел, примитивные ледорубы и, возможно, курительная трубка. Именно в таких условиях предлагает покорять вершины Peaks of Yore. Конечно, какой-либо реалистичности ждать от игры не стоит, но она позволяет хоть чуть-чуть ощутить, какого это: взбираться на скалу во времена, когда из страховки у тебя только стальные гвозди и простой канат.
Я провёл в этой игре уже около 150-ти часов и продолжу играть в неё дальше. Просто потому, что при каждом запуске она меня невероятно вдохновляет. Я уже наизусть выучил все уступы на всех горах, побил рекорды по времени на всех скалах и мне всё ещё мало. Скалолазы и альпинисты прошлого действительно были бесстрашными людьми. Ибо если уж мне страшно засыпать в бивуаке на высоте семи километров, В ИГРЕ, то как себя чувствовали первые покорители Эвереста? Когда в лагере на той же высоте они не могли дышать, не могли спать, не могли нормально думать, страдали от снежной слепоты и обжигающего кожу солнца.
И всё равно в 5 утра они выходили из тонкой брезентовой палатки и продолжали восхождение, прекрасно понимая, что с каждой минутой они продолжают умирать.
Honestly this is one of the greatest climbing games ever made so far.
The physics and how skillful you can get and need to get in order to fly through the levels is absolutely amazing. All the fluid movements and jumping
There are also so many cool mechanics and the DLC even adds more. You slowly add items you find to your little rooms and it's honestly really cozy and feels nice like a progression.
The DLC is insanely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard tho and I have completed the first book and a part of the second, but holy ♥♥♥♥ I'm not doing it all :D it would take way too much of my sanity and time.

A skill based game where you will fall a lot, but if you persevere every climb teaches you new techniques until you are throwing yourself up mountains with precision.
Peaks of Yore is an outstanding climbing game that teaches pain while encouraging persistence. Every single peak has you fixated on the summit not by guaranteeing success, but by the thrill of conquering the peak. This game shows you how fast things can escape from your grasp, whether that's a small tumble or a catastrophic fall. I know just about every other review says this but it's true: every other peak feels like a tutorial for the final mountain, and even then you still aren't ready. The final mountain makes you feel like you've summited an actual mountain by the end, and in my opinion is the hardest thing i've ever had to do in any game. Overall, this game is a true test of skill, making you frustrated, sad and happy try after try. 10/10 would recommend
