Controls are bizarre and not fun. Too many weird input combos for basic moves like a long jump. A number of keys are hard coded and can't be mapped to inputs, so the result is a very clunky and unergonomic control scheme.

Para fans de Metroid resultará una delicia, pues eso es lo que da.
Jugabilidad suave, sin exceso de armamento y un mundo ni pequeño ni enorme.
Las mejoras están muy bien implementadas en relación a la necesidad progresiva.
Se hace corto, pero no por fácil, sino porque te quedas con ganas de más.
El único contra sería el mapa, que es un poco confuso en cuanto a iconos y acabas volviendo a lugares innecesariamente, porque a veces no queda claro si una marca significa que ya has descubierto un objeto pero todavía no has podido recogerlo, o bien si ya lo tienes y esa marca quiere decir que estaba ahí.
Además, el mapa cambia de zoom/resolución según cambie en ese sentido la habitación donde estés. Supongo que eso fue difícil de solucionar.

Нужно привыкнуть к управлению. Без использования бега герой ощущается неповоротливым, отчасти это можно списать на громоздкий водолазный костюм, который носит наш протагонист. Больше всего поначалу будут раздражать прыжки, т.к. герой норовит оттолкнуться от стен там, где это совсем не нужно, и прилететь в объятия противников или сесть задом на шипы. Потом, когда дадут двойной прыжок и ранец для коротких полётов, станет гораздо проще. Во второй половине игры, по заветам Самус Аран, мы сможем перемещаться в виде шара почти по всем поверхностям, и надобность к акробатике отпадёт.
Нет прокачки. Совсем. Забудьте об увеличении здоровья или очках навыков. Максимум, что может предложить игра - это один обвес для каждого из орудий главного героя: увеличенный боезапас для ракетницы и усиленные выстрелы для других. Зато все виды оружия нужны, одни помогают открывать запертые двери, другие служат перемещением по локации. Есть ещё мины, при помощи взрывов которых мы открываем пути к разным секретам и срезкам на другие уровни. Особняком стоит пузырестрел, сначала я им почти не пользовался и удивлялся, зачем его разработчик добавил в игру. Но потом я начал перепроходить игру за короткое время на достижение, и пузырестрел действительно пригодился: он обездвиживает на время врагов, и мы, не отвлекаясь на уничтожение, несёмся дальше по уровню.
А ещё у вас есть спутник-дрон, умеющий взламывать некоторых противников. И давать подсказки к простым головоломкам. А самое важное - он умеет сканировать местность на предмет секретов, не нужно как в метройде, ракетами разносить каждую стену.
Слабая часть игры - это биомы. Внешне они не сильно друг от друга отличаются, в основном палитрой и набором противников, которых мало видов и часть просто перекрашена в другой цвет. Здесь незачёт.
Картой пользоваться неудобно. Она не масштабируется, нельзя поставить свои отметки. Карта плохо читается, она вся исполосована линиями, указывающими пути телепортов. Восклицательные знаки говорят, что здесь есть что-то важное, но при этом не факт, что вам нужно туда именно сейчас, это тоже сбивает.
Боссы - это украшение данной игры. Внешне они похожи на древних богов, которых описывал Говард Лавкрафт. К каждому требуется свой подход. Не всех нужно нашпиговывать пулями, иногда надо подумать головой. Самое сложное достижение связано с ними. В игре есть режим босс-раш, где нужно победить каждого из девяти боссов без получения урона. Это очень не просто, я кучу попыток потратил на финального супостата, вспоминая всех родственников до десятого колена.
По заверениям разработчика, игру делали в свободное время семь лет. Глядя на неудовлетворительный результат в Стиме, задаёшься вопросом: а стоила ли овчинка выделки? Или потраченное на разработку время автор игры лучше бы посвятил жене и ребёнку? Многие конкуренты по жанру в магазине выглядят гораздо интересней, OUTBUDDIES DX мало, что может предложить уникального. Неудивительно, что она затерялась среди подобных. Но мне в целом игра понравилась с оговорками и потраченного времени не жаль.
P.S. На деке игра чувствует себя прекрасно, ни одного вылета за всё прохождение. Частота кадров упала лишь раз, когда заряд моей батареи ушёл в красную зону.

if you want to sink your teeth into a metroid-like game thats oozing with atmosphere and cool mechanics then this great!
I usually don't review games, but I felt the need to review this one because at the time of writing it has mixed reviews on Steam, so I wanted to help it get closer to positive.
I will admit immediately that the early game felt rough: there were too many controls and the movement felt janky. Early game is one of the most important parts of the game to get right and this game's reception shows that, more often that not you lose a player early and never get them back. Run button also felt completely unnecessary and I felt the game would be better if running speed was just the default.
As I got deeper though, I enjoyed the game more and more. I liked exploring this world, and the abilities were fun to play around with. I absolutely loved the atmosphere, though I'm biased because I love deep underwater vibes in general. The boss fights were really good aside from the sheep and the fish. Boss rush mode (which is pretty oddly named - usually that name implies beating all bosses in a row, but here it's individual boss rematches hitless) was a real treat.

I can't perform those kind of moves, nor would one be expected to try to perform those moves.
This is no Metroid-vania, this is just a mess.
TOO MANY INPUTS. Seriously. I had to forward joystick to keyboard with a 3rd party program and there's still too many inputs for a SNES controller. Too much is thrown on the player at once, too. It just all gets lost.
TEDIOUS which I read in another review sums it up. Movement and input is just TEDIOUS.
PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ANY MORE GAMES. These are not FUN. Would refund if I could but it's too late sadly.

Muitos pontos negativos e poucos positivos, escolha de cores que torna difícil ver os elementos relevantes, muitas mecânicas completamente desnecessárias nesse tipo de jogo, mapa confuso, lore (um pouco) interessante.
不到7元还要啥自行车？画面看着太暗太花太脏，男猪是个丑肥猥琐糟老头，导致其卖相极差。只有上下左右四方向射击，也是被很多人吐槽诟病的地方。看似做得极其粗糙，但我却喜欢这种醍醐味！我通关了，奉上好评！

По окончании прохождения мне игра очень понравилась, но по какой то причине я долго не мог втянутся в игру, начинал доходил до первого босса и бросал и так несколько раз, поначалу даже было желание вообще бросить игру, но потом игра всё таки меня затянула и открылась во всей красе, очень точное управление, ретро графика, хардкор, поиск секретов, вообщем всё что должно быть у хорошей метроидвании, и как изюминка на торте Boss Rush, это действительно достойный вызов.
Very solid Metroidvania but doesn't deviate a whole lot from the formula. The one added wrinkle of your buddy's hacking abilities is unfortunately not super-easy to get a grip on but thankfully, it's not hard to pull off. You also can't increase your health like many other Metroidvanias, which mostly results in bosses you can't just spam attacks on and be ok. In most ways, it's about as close to a Metroid clone in atmosphere and weapons within largely original assets. But as long as you're not expecting anything new and like a nice challenge, Outbuddies should entirely satisfy.
一上来各种玩法扑面而来，还有点难适应，初步体验感觉还不错，游戏过于冷门
Хорошая игра, прошел за 15 часов, ну я еще так оставил без паузы поэтому можно пройти за 10-12 часов, получил из 38 наград только 35, одна награда как я понял за прохождение игры менее 7 часов, но это я думаю для спидраннеров, там так и написано в награде "спидраннер". В общем, я поставлю 10 из 10. В игре никаких багов или вылетов, неожиданностей много, поэтому подыхать будете это конкретно, бродишь и исследуешь мир, условно показывает карту где есть комнаты, поэтому куда то сквозь стены не пытаешься идти чтоб найти секретную комнату, ну это на самых крайних уголках мира, вот еще враги непредсказуемы, вроде бы слабые но ошибки не прощают. Почти похожа на игру Axiom Verge ну и на Axiom Verge 2, главное отличие тут прорисовка чут чуть не такая пиксельная. На счет музыки, ну своя атмосфера, понравился то что перед комнатой босса идет музон о прибижении босса, потом заходишь в следующую комнату и там босс, а так же есть мини боссы, в начале не мог пройти босса ТАМ ТАМ, оказывается я зашел не в ту сторону, хорошие игроки пройдут наверно обычным плазменным бластером (бластер урон наносит меньше чем ракетница), а у меня на ракетнице обойма была только на 10 шт. Интересная игра. А кстати, те которые уже прошли игру, у меня к вам вопрос, артефакт мощь древних находишь и отдаешь людям с синим плащом, я так и не всем раздавал, по окончании осталось еще 13 штук, их еще найти надо, и собственно вопрос, что будет если найти все и раздать всем?

The game is completely underrated. It's a fantastic metroid-like game! And all this with splendid graphics from an indie team.
I honestly think this was one of the most fun metroid-based metroidvanias, specially the middle sections. The exploration was great, but I'd appreciate better locations for teleporters/shortcuts . Some of the boss fights were very cool too, though I feel like other bosses seemed to favour a going-berserk playstyle too much.
My main complaints are:
- In the later sections there are too many instant deaths and traps. Even though deaths are not punishing (at least on normal difficulty, I don't know about anything else) they get annoying.
- The way secrets are hidden is way, way too basic. It's strange to have a lot of badly hidden things, a lot of times following the same patterns
- The controls are strange and counter-intuitive. But also you will easily learn them on the first sections without much pressure. The learning curve is quite fine, in my opinion. The game also seems to throw some things at you to remind you of some of the mechanics
the game seemed like it would be great but what tied me up was the controls. its like too many inputs overwhelm the game and its a real damn shame because it made something that could of been amazing into a poor experience. i might revisit it to see if i can work around it but i wouldnt count on it.
最初にやって思ったのは主人公のおじさんが正直魅力に欠けるという事だった。
ただ内容は面白かった。
メニュー画面で微妙に主人公の見た目を変えることが出来て、顔を目以外真っ黒の正体不明みたいな感じにする事が出来るけど、むしろそっちの方が良くてあえてそっちにしてやっていました。
実績を見るとそんなに難しい訳ではなくて探索をしていれば取れる実績を取ってる人の割合が低くて、ここまでやる人の数がすくないのか、と少し寂しい気分になります。
アクションゲームとしての問題点で感じた事は、
壁をつかんで登る際に、ジャンプを織り交ぜながら登る事は出来ない事（＊壁に向かってジャンプをすると、自動的に壁ジャンプみたいに壁とは反対方向にジャンプしてしまうから）
小さな足場からダッシュジャンプをしようとすると全然勢い付かない事、
チャージビームをチャージしながら２段ジャンプや方向転換を織り交ぜたアクションの時、思うようにチャージビームが打てない、等
アクションの小回りが利き辛い所があります。
それがこのゲームの賛否両論たる所以なのかなと思います。
ボスや中ボスは難しくて面白いです。
セール時とても安くなるので２Dアクションやメトロイドヴァニア好きにはオススメです。

慣れないうちはなんかイマイチだなと思ってたが、段々面白くなっていった。
広大なマップで若干迷子になりつつ段々と行ける箇所が増えていくのはやはり楽しい。
とにかく死にまくるが死のリスクはないに等しいのでゴリ押していける。
序盤は魚の群れにヒィヒィ言わされる貧弱さだが、その分強化されていく楽しみもある。
ボス戦は結構難しい。
探索要素はいいんだけど囚われた部族を助けても何もいいことがないところはつまらなかった。
何があるのかと思ったら全員解放して実績ひとつ埋まるだけかよ。
セールで相当安くなるので十分おすすめできる作品。
I really wish I could like this game. It looks pretty and polished, and it's very obvious a lot of care and effort was put into it, but it fails horribly at the most fundamental things, mostly the controls. The controls are a mile wide and an inch deep for no reason.
For example, why do I need to hold down an unrelated trigger to shoot upwards while moving? This was figured out all the way back in 1986 with Metroid 1, it shouldn't be that hard to make it so you can simply hold up on the dpad while moving left and right to do that.
Jumping feels like rocket thrusters in the sense that your jump starts really really slow before speeding up at the apex of your jump. Generally you want the opposite kind of behavior in a platformer where your upwards velocity starts fast and slows down towards the apex of your jump since it makes dodging by jumping far easier.
Your run button also has no reason to exist either. Normally when a platformer has a run button it comes with some compromises to your handling, but you can still stop and change directions on a dime when running, so what's the point? You've got no reason to not keep that button held down at all times.
Combine that with a buttload of input lag, and it makes for a character that feels utterly miserable to control.
I can't be bothered to play past the first boss, even if the level design and overall content is nice, all because your character controls are so butchered.
Oh yeah, and the music is really boring and repetitive. I don't care that you change the intensity of the instruments when you're in heavy combat. Dynamic music is only cool when the composition is interesting from the start.
получил игру почти даром (98 центов) игра очень красивая и атмосферная да и в целом приятная, так почему же я ее не рекомендую? я очень люблю платформеры особенно метроидвании , но вот эта... игра ? просто ужасный платформер, что бы куда то допрыгнуть нужно стрельнуть под себя в нужное место и в нужный тайминг и быть вообще богом таких игр , я уже пол часа не могу пройти дальше и это очень растраивает, и кто то может сказать что я скил ишуе, только я прошел с десяток различных платформеров и все они были хотя бы играбельны. не советую брать игру,разве что по скидке
So far it's alright, I saw this compared to axiom verge and metroidvanias but the controls are not super great. And the explanation of them is even worse. Weird symbols that don't make sense in terms of instruction. Then an "online manual" that opens your browser to a weird (obviously they don't own that url anymore) site. I'll continue and update to let you know what I think.

Lo primero que salta a la vista (literal, cuidado con esos píxeles) es la ambientación. Estilo retro con sabor a nostalgia, por si te falta algo de los 90 en tu vida. Además, tienes un “Buddy” que te acompaña, lo cual le añade un toque de estrategia al juego. Es como llevar a tu hermanito menor, pero, sorpresivamente, ¡este sí te ayuda de vez en cuando!

adie es perfecto\, y este juego hace que lo recuerdes. La dificultad a veces parece más desbalanceada que mi cuenta bancaria los lunes. Además, la historia es un poco más predecible que los chistes de mi tío en la cena familiar. Y hablando de predicciones, sí, los controles podrían ser más amigables. De amigo a amigo, eso sí necesitan una manita de gato.

Compralo con descuento. OUTBUDDIES DX es para esos días que necesitas algo nuevo pero no quieres gastarte el billete grande. A los $43.500 pesos colombianos, puede ser tu light en las sombras de un fin de semana sin plan. Pero, sinceramente, tómatelo con calma, como un café de esos que necesitan tres azúcares. No todos los días es buen día para aventuras desconcertantes, pero quién sabe, tal vez encuentres algo de encanto en esta odisea pixelada.
Metroidvania de prima... Separa os meninos dos homens... Das meninas das mulheres... Jogo difícil! Arte incrível, ambientação ótima... Não tem o que mexer nesse jogo...
styled quite convincingly as a 16 color VGA metroidvania but with far better music than the PC speaker/adlib could have produced. But other than style points this is a disappointment. Instead of intuitive and responsive controls, I feel like I'm learning to pilot a plane, with every single button on the controller used and sometimes in combination. The 15 minutes I played consisted of at least 15 new movement or other related options for character control. Just not fun.
There's a lot of ambition, heart and problems in this game. While I did enjoy a lot of it--and go on to beat it--It's hard to recommend it.
First, the positives: It has a big, fun world to explore, as any good MetroidVania should. Though there aren't a lot of 'fast travel points' on the map, I felt engaged enough to explore all of it. Getting certain upgrades also felt nice, and towards the late game I loved flying around, and speeding through certain biomes.
Being able to switch from your main avatar to a secondary robot avatar who flies and 'hacks' objects is also a novel idea. It feels really nice to be able to scan walls early on with the robot, to see if I could break away hidden areas. I'm not sure how this would work with two people, but I can see it being fun if you have a friend involved. Controls for both characters takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do, it becomes pretty fluid working with both avatars.
The graphics and color scheme in this game is...odd. I can't say it's a very pleasant, but it's got a quality to it that feels easy on the eyes. Think about those old DOS computer systems with green text on a black screen. It also fits the narrative of exploring a strange underwater world, so in that sense it works. However, it feels very limited because there's not enough daylight between a lot of these biomes as far as design. The 'fire area' biome feels just as bland as the 'underwater area' biome.
The enemies basically come in three varieties:
-A big bruiser who will swing at you and throw projectiles. These take a handful of strong hits to bring down.
-A crawler that goes along the ground, wall and ceiling, and may spit projectiles at you.
-A flying enemy with varying degrees of bobbing, set paths, or homing.
Combating these foes became tedious after awhile, especially when the end game of exploration was my main goal. I do have to mention that the dev stepped up on most of the bosses, because those were incredibly well thought out. Most required a very specific set of actions you need to perform in order to beat them, which feels reminiscent of a good Zelda boss battle. Unfortunately, that makes the last boss a bit of a disappointment. Minor spoilers, but the last boss simply is a damage sponge, with a set of moves that, while tough, basically makes you unload all your missiles in order to beat him.
The biggest flaw in this game was it's death mechanic.
I can't say it's not generous, since if you die, you respawn at where you've entered a room. The problem is that a lot of the time dying can feel cheap, and that there were conditions you were put in where it was unavoidable. This feels especially bad when you acquire an upgrade that is a sort of 'morph ball' equivalent from Metroid. The upgrade will protect you from fire and acid while you're in the ball form, but one wrong move and you die instantly. I found myself accidentally coming out of the 'ball form' and dying so much that the pace really began to sink.
This also was a problem when I would respawn at a rooms entrance, and would be attacked before I can react and be sent flying back into spike pit or lava. Getting sprung back by and enemy attack onto an environmental hazard is one of my biggest pet peeves, and this game has it in spades. There are no health or shield upgrades, so you have roughly six hits and then you're done. So much of my frustration came from dying, and is the biggest tipping point for me not fully recommending it.
I'm not saying this game is bad, and I do think the amount of negative reviews it has is unjustified. This is clearly a lone dev passion project, and they've got a lot to be proud of, and I would encourage to keep making games. If you want a unique take on a MetroidVania that throws some challenges at you, and often goes on sale for real cheap (I got it 90% off, for $2.00), then I would recommend this game.
Just be prepared for some frustrating bits.

와 왜이렇게 어려워 하면서 맵 진행했다가 나중에 기술 얻고 오는 길이라는 걸 깨닿고 욕한게 몇 번인지
루트 거꾸로 뚫고 총 컨트롤로 넘어갔다가 갇히고.. 자유도가 어느정도 있는 건 좋지만 진행에 대한 경계를 확실히 해야할듯
근데 지역 레벨링 괜찮았고 클래식한 메트로바니아 느낌도 잘 살려서 좋았음
보스 난이도가 쉬운게 쬐끔 아쉽지만 기믹이 각각 있어서 파훼하는 재미는 챙긴듯

This game is far better that the picture painted by the negative reviews, I will admit, the price you will need to pay to get the hang of the controls and the unique layout of the game mechanics and map is steep.
I felt it was hard as hell and just felt...wrong, everything felt...wrong, then the next thing I knew I beat the game twice and I rarely replay games these days.

OUTBUDDIES is deliberately giving you a warm welcome with it's inspirations worn on it's sleeve, you immediately see it's influences and inspirations and that is Julian LAufers way of telling the Metroidvania fan that he's also in love with the genre and respects it just as much as you, most likely more that you.
He then asks you to see what he's done with that love. You will enjoy this game for the lore as well.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

I own this Game on GOG and have already beaten it, I got this on steam because I wanted to play more games like this on my Steam Deck. Let me be blunt. The game is fun and very challenging. So fun that I am worried I may break my my controller on my Steam Deck. If you like metroidvania games then this is a must have.

The game is a-ok. I quite like some of it to be honest, but definitely contained a lot of flaws. Since I was having fun generally, so this go to the "Yes".
There are going to be a lot of spoilers so spoiler warning!
[h2]Cons[/h2]
Let's start with the cons:
1) The control is a bit weird on the controller. The buttons arrangement didn't make sense. For example, changing primary weapon is the "Triangle" or "Y" button, which is one the four main buttons, but to change secondary weapon, it's right analogue stick "R-down". Guess what's right analogue stick "R-up"? It's activating the buddy system. The running is L-trigger while the dash is R-shoulder, whereas R-trigger is shooting upward. Does any placement of this really make any sense?
2) The control can also be a bit clunky, where sometime certain button that was meant to do something didn't do it, for no reason. This is probably also part of the reason why some other comments mentioned wall that you can't jump off. So far I didn't find any wall that I can't jump off at all, but it just doesn't work 100% of the time.
3) The boss difficulty is pretty inconsistent and sometime it is not clear what you need to do. For example, I defeated the first boss without even seeing what it looks like -.-; where as the underwater boss is kinda tough. Somehow I found that the boss Burluc that said to be the hardest to be quite manageable for me (managed to kill it in a few tries), whereas Nocturne totally frustrate me with way too many things happening at the screen at anytime. There's also a massive luck required for Nocturne as if you choose the wrong side of the wall (no indication whatsoever, so pure luck), you're not going to rush to another side one time to avoid the one hit death. I have absolutely no idea that I need to do something to Moxan and end up simply killing it. Easily as well. And then, the last boss was way easier compared to Nocturne which is supposedly the second last boss.
4) The box Physics is absolutely stupid. Why should the box move so janky? Why should it move and sway around so fast without any reason? Anytime I need to stack any boxes, I will let out a long sigh because of how tough it is just to line 2 boxes together. It's absolutely unnecessary!
5) Like some has already said, there's absolutely no audio feedback on weapon charged. This wouldn't be as bad if it will simply shoot an uncharged shot, but no, if you're charging it without going all the way, it will just give you an empty shot.
[h2]Neutral Part[/h2]
Now, about part that some people might like, some might hate, so it's more of a option based:
1) There are absolutely no instructions, no guide, no direction. Absolutely nothing. So basically you will have to blindly crawling everywhere to find place to go, and if you're lost, it could take forever. Actually, even the dev said it in the forum - if you know where to go, it's a 4 hours game; otherwise, it will take you 15~20 hours. However, do that note that this may also be not so bad. For people who liked exploration and beating puzzle on your own, this is good for you.
(Yeah don't worry, I'm one that kinda liked it, provided that I'm immersed in it)
2) Dying in this game respawn you at the start of the room with progress of that room wiped but an additional hp (until it's maxed out). For those who liked their progress saved, this is a curse; for those who played a lot of soul-game, this is a blessing. So take it however way you want.
(I'm more of a latter, so it's once again a blessing for me. If I'm low on health in a room, I can always suicide without consequences other than for the one achievement that I don't plan to attempt.)
[h2]Pros[/h2]
Now, the parts that I liked, other than those two above:
1) A fine, claustrophobic-inducing experience where you're fighting to get out from throughout the game.
2) There are quite a few different mechanics that every time you unlocked something, it will give you a feeling that "Yes, I can now finally reached that place!" Fun thing is, I actually accidentally sequence broke a few parts by using some "jump while shooting down" trick to access places that I wasn't supposed to reach, but mostly just contain items that I need to get when I backtracked.
3) A rather big map to explore if you like to explore. Though there are some "Bridge Zone" that wasn't quite as interesting.
4) Last but not least, like I said, I quite enjoy it overall, so it is not too bad.
Hint: Oh ya, I didn't realised that you can change the settings about the zooming so if you saw this comment, take note that you can do it. I only know it like a day after I finished the game.
Genuinely challenging Metroidvania. Actually forces you to think things through.

IMO better than Axiom Verge.
Really worth the buy if you like Metroidvanias!

I really liked this game!! It definitely has some flaws that I can get why people fell off it. But there is absolutely a good game here. If you liked Axiom Verge, give this one a go.
The world is cool. Definitely nails the alien and hostile environment vibe. The music is surprisingly great for an indie and adds to that.
Movement takes some time to fully get used to, and over time you get some pretty cool movement tech upgrades. By mid game I felt very good with the movement and controls.
Exploration/Map - The map is probably the worst part of the game, it is confusing to read but I got used to it over time. I feel like if just a little more design thought went into the map it would be so much better. Exploration on the other hand is pretty cool. Your sidekick is a robot thing with an ability to scan enemies and surfaces. He can detect walls that can be blown up for you. Its a good way to mix "invisible secret walls" with a hint system. You can definitely do things out of a set order, which is a good component of a MV.
Bosses/Combat - Hit and miss. Bosses are challenging across the board. They aren't overly spongey and generally have good patterns that are challenging but can be identified. An issue I have is that if you have to insert finger pointing icons which don't fit the game atmosphere at all, you aren't doing a good job telegraphing boss fights.
Overall despite some flaws I found this game to be FUN. It really nailed the atmosphere it was going for and that is hugely important for the metroidvania genre imo. This game gets more flak than it deserves. Well worth giving a try!

Bland, repetetive, sometimes unfair due to aweful controls.
If you're a fan of "get hit and die" games then this might be for you. If you're from the metroid-vania genre: Stay clear of this one... There are much better games out there.
If you want a truly non-linear adventure-platformer, look no further. No game is perfect but this is exactly what I was looking for and I can't recommend it enough.
The power-ups are not entirely unique but the weapons and tools you gather are a solid evolution of the expected with some fun twists. The game is molded to the kit you build and the sunken city of Balan is the perfect playground.
This is a game that is not afraid to kill you but it has a unique habit (for the genre) of simply making you restart the room you died in rather than booting you back to the last save point. The developer was free to make some rooms grueling affairs, be it with deadly combat situations, unforgiving platforming challenges, or just plain gauntlets. It is the best of both worlds.
The art is charming and aesthetic is perfect. Environments look excellent and the bosses put up good fights. You are given a chance to rescue the Wozan, long suffering denizens of Outbuddies whose animations and design led me to rescue as many as I could find. The strong visuals are accompanied by a lonely, moody soundtrack and an adaptive soundtrack to boot. The tension ratchets up during combat situations seamlessly and calms as the danger passes.
The controls are very good but definitely take some getting used to. You bought the whole controller and you're going to use the whole controller. That said, once you get used to it you can really fly. The act of playing this game is a joy.
Once you've master the controls and escape the initial area, you'll enjoy a phenomenal metroidvaina that is well deserving of your time.

If you have some patience and can accept a little bit of jank, you'll find yourself in one of the very best Metroid-style 2D worlds.
The controls felt a little awkward.
The symbols on the map were irritatingly ambiguous, but I liked how you aren't sure how many squares on the map you are uncovering by entering a new room/segment.
The platforming was good, and there is often a mixture of ways to traverse an area thanks to your palette of abilities.
Sound is good, Music sounds like the same few very short loops, though amazingly it fit the mood and took me far longer than i care to admit to notice how repetitively short these loops were. The music intensifies/loudens as you take damage, which helped with this.

Yea no the controls are a mess and the general sluggishness of your movement makes this a miserable experience, there are other indie metroidvanias to sink your teeth into out there.
After only 20 minutes, I can already tell this is going to be one of the most painful experiences to play. I can definitely recommend for the 3 dollars, but as it has a 25 dollar price tag, this is not worth it.

The visuals are great, the controls are fine and something you can get used to, but the game punishes you for doing stuff out of order. You fall down one pit to discover two missing tiles on the map. Turns out you have to repeat an hour-long journey to grab a third orb that levels up your hacking ability. You should've grabbed it BEFORE you decided to drop down that hole.
You probably remember water levels being clunky and slow movement underwater in other metroidvanias right? Well there's a lot of that here since you are, well, underwater.
The game simply becomes tedious. I really wanted to like it but I simply cannot, nor recommend it.
While flawed, this game me exactly what I wanted out of a Metroidvania: a large, foreboding world to explore with a sense of mystery and discovery, along with neat boss fights and upgrades, complete with a strong retro graphical style that never let up. I very thoroughly enjoyed it, even with its persistent frustrations.
And what were those frustrations? Janky, unbalanced enemies and combat encounters that'll cause you to respawn over and over, and room designs that are too clever and which make navigation - especially backtracking - tedious. I can very well see how these two aspects can turn some people off (hence the Mixed rating here on Steam), since this game is on the longer side and the lack of combat precision does not gel well with this genre of game.
But, who cares? I learned to love it. Every single aspect of this game had thought and care put into it, and I believe that the design choices were faithful executions of the developer’s vision and not simply a result of being incompetent or lazy. (And no, that last sentence is not codeword for me trying to cope.)
I'm really astounded that a game of this scope was a one-man job, and I think it's quite sad this title did not recoup its development costs.
Overall I was really touched by this game, so here's hoping that maybe we'll see another title from this developer!

√特殊机制比较多，比如射击反冲，小机器人hack技能

缺点：
×手感一般，比如蓄力射击没有声音提示，只能看枪口那一格小像素是否变大了。主角动作龟速，正常移动应该叫散步，按住跑步才是正常速度。
x主角的血量永远只有4格，但是死亡是从当前房间重生的（并且每次只补一格血量，类似战神的重生机制），这就说明战斗设计是多么不合理，只能靠随时重生弥补一下。而且这样就降低了死亡的惩罚，以至于无所谓了，我水平虽然不算好，但也没很烂，通关死了300次左右。
×地图设计一般，很多地方不合理，有时候要走挺长一段才能发现走错了。场景单调。
×明显应该一次性使用的开关开启后不能记忆状态
×UI不好，地图很多重要道具没有展示，反倒有一些莫名其妙的叹号，也不知道什么意思。
×机器人升级是过关必备，但是竟然没有一个展示机器人升级的界面。而且升级没有余量，也就是如果少拿了，那你不知道要回到地图的哪里去找，而且传送点很分散，完全起不到作用。
×受伤判断很不友好，有即死地形，很长而且只能龟速通过
×门的颜色莫名其妙，和解锁条件不对应
×很多过关技巧完全没有提示，或者提示是一些莫名其妙的箭头或者图标，需要自己悟
×敌人单调，地图很大，敌人却没几种，还是换皮怪。
×个别boss战极难，即死地形+无间歇陨石干扰+大范围攻击+少的可怜的平台+躲避要看箭头提示（因为boss攻击动画是瞬间的）+不可消除的大号跟踪弹幕，boss毫无招式，就是无赖放弹幕+大范围攻击。BossRush不是连着打boss，而是只打一个，但你一击死（更准确是无伤挑战）

Metroidvania con ECCELLENTI potenzialità, sfumate tutte a causa di una grafica pixellata che però è estremamente confusa. Adoro i giochi pixellati e retro, ma qui si è cercato di dare troppa importanza a quel lato e da solo fastidio, peccato.
Could not get game to recognize controller and so could not get past the opening intro. Not super functional looking.

缺点：
1.操作手感差，奔跑跳有时助跑不起来，蹬墙跳有点反人类，匍匐时按奔跑键装雷不习惯，水中射击方向实属不习惯（尽管按奔跑键可以固定方向）。
2.没有明确的任务目的提示，有时拿完关键道具找不到路，打BOSS时提示不明显，最后打完BOSS撤离时，没有明显的目标点撤离。
3.火地形、酸地形、伤害砖块设计离谱，拿到抗火抗酸护甲，有时候用起来显得很呆。
4.前期拿到冰枪不如初始武器，有时候用冰枪容易把自己坑了，电枪手短，也就打打黄门和最终BOSS，后期拿了远古核心武器才好用。
5.剧情看的很迷，剧情互动不够多，男主像个哑巴，最后莫名其妙的从传送门走了。
优点：
1.进门存档确实舒服
2.堆箱子和入侵敌人确实有意思，（有一说一最后打BOSS我不知道黑了三角形啥用）
3.拿同伴找隐藏能方便很多
4.前期拿到二段跳才能正常游玩，拿到喷气背包的时候基本上半数地图都能去了，后期拿到电枪蓄力冲，过图确实舒服
5.打BOSS前可以拿再一条血挺舒服的
Jogo maravilhoso! Quem curte um Metroidvania mais puxado pro lado do Metroid, vai gostar muito. A arte lembra bastante o primeiro Metroid, mas o som não é tão 8-bits. Tem uma história interessante. Boss fight e jogabilidade muito boa!
画风很喜欢，游戏内容也很有创意，游戏最大的问题是指南不清，作为一款比较冷门的游戏，在各大视频网站上都找不到攻略，非常容易卡关，我本人遇到最多的情况就是从一个地方下来然后上不去了，很影响游戏体验，这类2d类银河城游戏我玩的也很多，这次这款游戏确实是有很明显的缺陷，还有就是汉化做的不够全面，对不懂英文的玩家不够友好。总而言之，适合喜欢探索，玩过类似游戏的玩家入手。
It's unfortunate, this game started with hype: An Explorer, buff and mad with desire to seize the treasures of Gods past, cast down by a wicked storm, his flying fortress dashed into the ocean beneath, and befriend by a robot upon his awakening in forbidden lands.
The early half of the game has you sneaking past fearsome foes, and obtaining weapons and tools alike to chart your way to that Old God's Treasure.
Then you encounter the gameplay, moving boxes a lot with janky physics, a wall jump that doesn't seem to work on every wall, but every wall looks alike, so...
Then there are the controls: (J) is Attack (K) is Interact, Run, Place Bomb. (L) is Go Prone to crawl, and Dodge Roll. Yes, you will be hitting the wrong inputs, and yes I believe you can rebind your keys.
But then there's three major issues I have; firstly, there's an ability that you need to progress that is hidden in three different pieces hidden in side passages that you most likely will miss in your travels.
Issue one, isn't a problem if not for issue two: There are save points, you save the games progress with those, however when you enter a room, the game checkpoints you at the start of that room, and if you leave the game and start it back up, you are started at the checkpoint, not your save. It gets worse, because if you don't save at save point and die, those things you've collected don't save.
Once again, this is something that you can get used to, until issue three appears: The Enemies who charge to attack you in Melee range, or are on narrow cliffs that the only way to fight them would be using a melee attack, but that isn't in your arsenal, no, you have bombs that don't go on every surface, you could try and sneak, but fumble over controls.
Then...
There is the Skulk Fish.
The Skulk Fish doesn't skulk, it doesn't have to, for it's a swarm enemy, eight, differing in size so you will miss most of them, two to three hits to kill each fish, cannot dodge dash past or through them like the dodge roll does (Yes, it's on the same input) and no, they don't have to go around walls to get you, they get to pretend those don't exist, but don't worry those walls are plenty real for you, and they will corner you, and you might survive, but their schools are plenty, and your sanity might not hold out, beware, there are mazes in the deep.
In closing, fun start, I beat the second boss, probably won't beat this game, but might return to it throughout the year(s).

Its basically Metroid, except with blander music and graphics/color schemes that are strangely reminiscent of an Action 52 game. Its decent but it could have been refined more to not look so samey. Boss difficulty could be toned down a bit, and no way in hell am I going to attempt the one hit death Boss Rush challenge. Its old school in ways youd rather forget (if you dont have godlike skill, forget about completing those acheivements) but at least when you die you can start right in the same area rather than all the way at a save point. Not really worth a second playthrough after you beat it/100% it but get it on sale if you like these types of games.
Game looks cool but couldn't really get into it. Movement felt a bit slow and controls felt a bit awkward. Beat the first boss fight then called it there.
The character doesn't feel good to control. There's a lack of 8 directional aiming, the jump physics do not feel good, and aiming your gun is clunky. I expected a playable, maybe NES metroid like experience, but the character physics are so complete garbage that i couldn't force myself to keep playing.

Absolutely ruined by a misleading, inaccurate and at best barely-legible map. Outbuddies ensures you'll spend hours looking for pickups the game tells you you've already found, missing tiny rooms indiscernible amongst obnoxiously-placed map icons, and a mini-map drawn to a baffling and unreadable scale. Avoid.
Great game, both as an example of its genre and as a game in general.
It does have some problems, can feel hardcore at times, but isn't that the case even with the best metroidvanias out there. Don't even try playing with the keyboard, get a controller.
And it has one unique feature that made it special to me: you can let your child (5 year old in my case) control the robot with the mouse, which I bet is much more fun than playing alone. And while there are many other child-friendly co-op games, the unique detail here is that the robot never dies, which is rather important for a character controlled by a child.
Outbuddies DX is an underrated, underappreciated gem of a Metroidvania. More in the lineage of Metroid, it leans heavily on exploration, atmosphere, and a core set of collectible power-ups.
The game takes a little while to ramp up due to the simple, moody graphics, and the gradual introduction of tutorials. Its unusual platforming mechanics also lend to the slow start. However, it's not long before you are earning your first abilities and facing off with bosses, and that's where the game really starts to shine. I began to enjoy the game more and more, until some time around the third or fourth boss when something clicked for me. After that, I could barely stop playing.
Once you start obtaining movement abilities, the game progresses into challenging platforming sections which are an absolute joy to move around. The fights with generic enemies in these rooms can be somewhat simple, but most of the fun lies in navigating the room itself. Clearing each room often feels like a minor accomplishment. Unfortunately, toward the latter half of the game, the platforming challenges often depend on insta-death acid/fire, but even here the traps rarely feel unfair. The game is never punishing, with a generous respawn system where you simply restart the current room when you die.
At around the time of the fourth boss, I was finally getting a feel for the mechanics and physics of the game. When I first started playing, the controls and movement felt a little clunky to me, and I had trouble even making basic jumps. Eventually, however, I felt as though I had tight control over every movement. Once I got accustomed to the sort of "slide/snap" up onto ledges, the platforming truly opened up to me and moving around the map became almost addictive.
Mastering the mechanics really helped for the later bosses, as well. None of the bosses in this game were especially hard, but they weren't pushovers either. I might have felt differently if it weren't for the generous respawn, but being able to retry a boss within seconds of dying kept me in the flow of the game and allowed me to learn the mechanics at a nice pace. The bosses were challenging and well-balanced to the point where every death felt fair (with the exception of just one boss, and even that boss was fun to fight). After every death, I felt I learned a little more and was ready to try again. Only one boss had moments that didn't always feel "fair", thanks to an insta-death pit, but somehow I actually enjoyed it more than every other boss. I had to be constantly on my toes and ready to multi-task. All said, I think most of the bosses were a high point for the game.
The music and design are also top-notch. My only complaint here is with the lack of variety. There are only a handful of tracks in the game, but every single song fits the mood perfectly. The music, which was normally eerie and suspenseful, would crescendo into bombastic battle tunes when you began to fight with enemies. The songs flow back and forth between this quiet exploration and explosive fighting seamlessly, which was an excellent touch. Likewise, the art and design lends itself incredibly well to the foreboding vibe. The style is cohesive and beautiful throughout. Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot to see in the map, with only a few standout locations. However, the sections are distinctive and interesting on their own.
Outbuddies does have some weaker aspects, however, such as the namesake buddy system. Others have said that the buddy can feel disruptive to the flow of the game, but my impression was that this was only marginally true. The hacking and box-moving mechanic both felt somewhat clunky, but the buddy was often useful to gather health recovery items or to quickly view the room. The ability to scan walls was also nice, but it was just a little too slow to be useful all the time. I mostly used the scanning ability when I suspected a secret wall would be nearby. I would imagine that the buddy mechanic becomes more useful in a co-op mode, but I played through the game solo.
Lastly, the map design might be a weak spot for some. Personally, I enjoyed it, because I love exploring. However, it sometimes became tedious to navigate, especially before some of the portals are enabled. Unfortunately, there really isn't fast travel outside of these sparse teleporters. Nearly all of the portals connect back to locations that are *somewhat* nearby, but even traveling between these locations can be a pain. There was one section in the game where I wasn't sure exactly how to progress, so I began exploring other areas that had opened up to me. Sadly, I would often find that I could travel a little ways into these other areas, but I would eventually reach a point where I couldn't progress further without another ability. Then, I would have to backtrack for miles to try another path. Backtracking is a big part of the genre, but it became cumbersome when I wasn't sure how to progress.
All in all, while Outbuddies is not perfect, it is still an exceptional game created by someone with a clear love for the craft and the Metroidvania genre. Its few small flaws are all that hold it back from being a true masterpiece, in my opinion. Still, I will hold this game up as one of the greats, and I truly believe it deserves so much more recognition and praise.
A Weird, Atmospheric and overall enjoyable experience
有官中无脑赞。有少量错字。游戏相比银河战士，恶魔城，塞尔达，操作太繁琐了。要是隔段时间没玩，估计都不知道怎么操作。画面配色方面差点，有时候分不清障碍物和背景。地图不能放大缩小，装备界面不能查看详情，希望厂家继续完善。本地双打估计意义不大，僚机貌似只能搬运东西。总体来说还是可以推荐的，可以一玩。杉果包入的本体约3元，目前就这，看以后追评。
A wonderfully atmospheric game that does a great job of scratching the action/exploration itch!
Good game, especially when you consider that it was made by a one-man team.
Took about an hour to get used to things, but once I did, I had a blast. The atmosphere is really great, and the world is pretty huge. I think fast travel could be a bit more streamlined (certain spots were a bit of a pain to backtrack to), but overall was a lot of fun to play through. Would recommend if you're a fan of Super Metroid or similar

The control scheme is annoying, when you get the upgrade that allows you to traverse environmental hazards it is so easy to accidentally get out of it and die and the options, ui and menus could be more user friendly.
Otherwise it is ok, decent bosses and enemies with a decently large game so not one of the better metroidvanias i have played but good enough to play.
But i am never going to be able to play this without being frustrated at the controls.

良い点としてはメトロイドっぽい所、それに加えてドローンやスニークの要素があるのもユニークで面白い。
が、ドローンはAxiom Verge以上に自由度ありすぎて(移動制限なし＆無敵)ちょっとチート感。
イマイチな点としては音楽に盛り上がりが欠ける所、道中BGMは雰囲気に合ってるけど
ボス戦ではAxiom Vergeみたいにもうちょっとテンション上がるような曲にして欲しかった。
一気にやろうという感じは起きないけど、クリアはしたいなぁと思うゲームです。
"OUTBUDDIES DX" is a ripoff of Metroid from 1986. Gameplay consists of the usual 2D platforming/shooting and negotiating a persistent 2D platformer map.
They chose to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. In this case significant amount of effort seems to have gone into the visuals, so we can assume the game was made to look bad and obsolete on purpose. The game features only 2D graphics. For reference, the first consumer mass market 3D accelerators were available from 1995, so there's little in the way of excuses for the obsolescence here.
Controls are locked. While resolution can be changed, there's no support beyond 1080p, and even at that resolution, the game is presented as a lower resolution but neatly upscaled so it doesn't look blurry... regardless, no support for modern PC resolutions. These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable standards for PC.
There's an inexplicable $26 price tag here for a game that lacks modern graphics and isn't even presented in 3D. For comparison, AAA games like Euro Truck Sim 2, Dark Souls 3 and Tomb Raider are significantly cheaper than this, and the developers of those games were capable of 3D graphics.
В общем и целом вполне хорошая метроидвания.
По графике и аудио особо нечего сказать, все обычно и нормально.
Вот с сюжетом подкачали, он тут есть, но его совсем чуть-чуть и только так, чтобы хоть было какое-то начало и конец.
Управление нормальное, играется не сложно.
А вот сама игра, если еще вначале простая, то где-то после 2-3 босса начинаются местами трудности, сами боссы же тоже не простые, так что придется попотеть.
Проходится полностью примерно за 16-18 часов.
Почти все ачивки получаются по ходу прохождения, кроме трех, из-за них придется конкретно напрячься.
