This used to be amazing but now behaves like a beta version. Too many bugs and its a pain to use workarounds as they cancel each other out so its difficult to get the controls in a working state. You also need to manually edit config files as part of the workarounds.
Needs bug fixes and an update to the settings. Not sure if its abandonware now.

This game was great when it first came out but in 2025, it doesn't even run and there is no support for the game to be found. Game crashes past the initial loading area.

Despite the frustratingly slow development progress, the pain of setting it up, the inaccuracies pointed out in other reviews, and the game certainly leaves me wanting a bit more... I still find myself coming back to it and haven't once considered refunding. I feel a lot of the gaming, and especially VR community has become spoiled to expectations... but despite the bugs it's solid. Playable roms, customizable cabinets, upload your own movies, etc. It's a long ways from being perfect but until someone out-does it, I can't leave a negative review

Just asked for a refund, would be ok if it is free, but there are too many quirks and workarounds you have to do to even make it playable, not acceptable for a product that you pay for.
On quest 3, controller is not recoginze, you have some weird HTC vive controller que weirder control scheme.
When trying to play the games, connected xbox controller does nothing, trying to configure controller does nothing, literal nothing I click on the button mapping to change > awaits input > I press the desired button on the controller > nothing changes and the awaiting input dissapears.
Sad that it was abandoned by the developer, would have been something nice with some more effort. But still charging money for this seems like a rip off.
Takes a LOT of figuring out but it's pretty good. Fix the nightly MAME core's screen rotation, and also a Candy Cab type would rule.

It´s May, 2024 and I couldn't find a way to either configure my Meta Quest 3 Controllers or my Xbox controller to control the in-game user interface. I was not even able to interface with the initial arcade menu machine. I tried all possible guides and recommendations to no avail.
If someone REALLY knows a friendly way to configure meta quest 3 controllers AND / OR Xbox gamepad in VR, please let me know.
A perfect failure.
I loved NRAN when it debuted, however it was full of bugs. I think there was only one patch since I got it on March 8, 2018. There were so many reasons to love NRAN: arcade fan, VR fan, time travel/nostalgia fan – I am all of these things, and NRAN failed me on each.
Let’s start with the VR aspect. By 2018, every VR game that could had been retrofit with standard movement controls, except for this one. The left hand controls forward and backward movement, rotation is done with your body so there will be no sitting down while playing this, and right hand is reserved for teleporting. One achievement requires the user to pick up all of the trash and throw it away however a bug that has always been present is that the ground is about six inches under the floor. To reach it at all, playspace moving is required. Direct movement requires the user to stand in the small “prison waffle” located in the center of the playspace as movement will not occur otherwise. By the way, there is another achievement, Pink Rabbit, that has been made completely impossible to achieve thanks to DCC removing the pill that causes a psychedelic visual due to “concerns of motion sickness”, something that anyone who has spent more than a month in VR is long past.
Next, NRAN promotes itself as an 80/90s nostalgia centered experience. Well, that’s an interesting lie. The soda cans of NRAN all have wide mouths, a feature not introduced until 1997 and not universal until around 2000. The magazines, although fictional, feature dates from well past 2040, and the runner lights on the bottom of every corner feature ultrabright LEDs which did not exist prior to 2007. There were only two things NRAN got historically right. The first is that smoking was everywhere back then and that worthless robot that inevitably falls over trying to make it down the stairs. I am certain I speak for every NRAN user when I say that an idealized version of the robot that didn’t fall over every five minutes would have been more appreciated here.
Now, the last part is how NRAN could have been a great arcade experience. Many arcade roms and the systems that run them are not setup to be network multiplayer, but even so, one of the achievements is to have a full lobby, so what can you do if not play video games together? It would have been great if we could at least watch other users play games, but no, DCC couldn’t be bothered to give us that. The other games bowling, basketball, darts, airhockey, whack-a-thing, skeeball, and the various instruments could have been optimized to actually hold the attention of those trying to use them. Their state from then till now has been so frustrating to use that even the friends I’ve let use my VR didn’t bother with them for more than three minutes. Music on NRAN requires users to setup an internet radio station even for local play. Video playback is the only thing NRAN managed to make normal by linking a file to a VHS, however, there is so much bloom coming off of everything that it looks like the VR lenses have been polished with Crisco.
DCC made an announcement that people left the company and it is clear that everyone who left was someone who could have made NRAN better. DCC promised to return to NRAN and give us the lasertag that they had been promoting since it’s launch, after they finished making Fortnite- I mean Hypercharge. Three years after releasing Small Soldiers- I mean Toy Story- I mean Hypercharge, DCC released some shovelware that had nothing to do with NRAN, proving to me that they truly have no intentions of delivering on their promises.
I have held off giving this review for six years because I desperately wanted NRAN to live up to its potential. You who are reading this, should not give six cents for this program. If you want a nostalgic arcade experience in VR, install Resonite or EmuVR instead.
It's a really neat concept with a poor execution, The idea of making an arcade sounds awesome but the tools they give you even as the uploader for everything you must find yourself are just terrible. The game won't help or tell you anything in terms of formatting and moving things around to such a degree that there are several whole page long community posts on the basics of getting this functional. Would an jpeg to whatever the poster are easy converter kill them? Or better game checking then testing a game for it not to work in arcade. I wish they would have kept working on this and making as user friendly as possbile. If you can find the nran start up packs those can be fun but setting up a 100% yours arcade won't be worth the pain just buy a pi or cheap phone to play old games on
great game
I’ve known about this game for quite some time, and when I originally purchased the game I sort of dropped it for the learning curve of getting working. Recently, because of a winter storm in my area, I decided to finally get it going. Now that I have got it fully customized and put some hours into it I wanted to give a review for anyone else wanting to jump into it.
While I will go over the Pros and cons I do want to point out a few things. Game is very resource heavy despite the requirements, my rig meets or goes over the recommended specs (besides RAM cause I am too cheap to buy more) and at full settings in VR will run games choppy, and I mean unplayably choppy. It's not a deal breaker for me, cause I can turn down most settings, but it's something to take into consideration.
PROS
Not nearly as hard to setup as it seems:
While the game seems like a nightmare to set up, once you find a decent tutorial and you use the Arcade Manager (which has everything but roms) it's actually quite easy to get the game going with working roms.
Fun experience to play emulators on:
The game has a great atmosphere and it is really enjoyable to play the games this way. If you’re wanting an arcade experience at home it's a pretty decent attempt at replicating it (in VR).
Non-Emulator experiences built into the game:
Besides the emulator based stuff the game also comes preloaded with a handful of things. You have two bowling lanes, basketball machines, whack-a-mole clones, a punching bag, a movie theater and radio (have to add your own files), a shooting game, and darts. Honestly the Movie theater alone helps sells it for me, as it makes watching videos in VR more entertaining, and actually adds benefit to playing Co-Op (if configured on both ends)
Tons of things to interact with:
The Arcade floor is littered with random items that build onto the atmosphere of the game. You can find an etch a-sketch and draw, mess with an omnibot that moves around the floor, pick up and throw food items. Just small things that add to the experience beside the main stuff.
CONS
Almost all the Arcade Cabinets have horizontally mounted monitors:
This might not be an issue for most people, but if you plan to mainly fill your arcade with classic early 80s titles you’re going to run into this issue. You only get 4 vertical monitor cabinets, all the others are horizontal. While you can put any game on any cabinet, there really isn’t a way to make a game like (Dig Dug) look good on the monitor.
Some games seem to not work period despite using the correct versions:
(I’ll preface by saying this negative might be an entirely me thing but I did do some testing to lead me to believe it isn’t).I thought it would be cool to add a LaserDisc game to the arcade, M.A.M.E supports a very small amount and while it shows up into the arcade, as soon as you go to boot it the game crashes. I turned down all the resource settings, I verified the roms worked on the version of M.A.M.E, but it just crashes.
You’re kinda forced to play standing up (In VR):
To my knowledge there is no setting at all to allow a (Sit Down) VR experience. While there are some aspects of the game that would work very poorly with sitting down, such as bowling, it's kind of annoying if you're only booting it to play a couple games or watch something in VR.
The Oculus App/Oculus Headset turns on even when not booted into VR Mode:
While this isn’t to big of a deal, especially cause the main selling point of this game is the VR mode and you really won’t play non-vr mode much, its annoying when you only want to test something (see if a machine crashes the game, if it showed up in the arcade, if your customization worked, ETC) and every time you do so the screen immediately minimizes and the oculus turns on. None of my other games with both Non-VR and VR modes do this.
No way to speed up or skip boot sequences for Arcades:
Many early 80s games had long bootup screens which makes the game very annoying to play in NRAN because some games might be 2 seconds, another might be 30-50 seconds. And you have to go through it every time you step away from the machine. I know in M.A.M.E you can press something like F10 and speed up, but I don’t know an easy way to do it here.
There are some things you might find issue with that I wouldn’t consider a Con but to just list a few.
Co-Op is kind of dumb (players can’t see or play each others games besides built in games, and if movies theaters are configured correctly)
Due to it working best with outdated M.A.M.E Cores, finding roms for specific games can be more challenging.
From reading posts when I was getting it working it seems the game is kind’ve abandoned and the community has fizzled out.
Compared to playing on a real machine the oculus controllers are just OK, not good, not bad, but OK.
All in all if you’re really wanting an experience like this I recommend picking up the game, it's fun to mess around in, it makes playing games on M.A.M.E more fun (for me anyways), I prefer watching videos on it, and if you enjoy the demo I think the full price is worth it. If none of what I said appeals to you and you didn’t like the demo I’d pass, I’ve never seen it go on sale either so I wouldn’t wait for it to get lower either.
nostalgic, fun and you can play it without VR! Playing with friends makes it even more fun.

Grab a pre made pack if your starting off! Otherwise try tinkering with the software and build your own! ALSO! If you own a VR headset and want to test your arcade, UNPLUG THE HEADSET! It doesnt matter if you close it! The game will open Oculus by default, Just close oculus and steamVR, The game will boot into desktop!
Takes a bit of tinkering to set up, and I'm still having some small issues with things like, the classic arcades don't show the correct attract screens, I can't pick up anything from the floor directly for some reason... but ultimately, they are nit-picks that I'm trying to solve. But, ability to have a personalized arcade from the peak moment in arcade history? Absolutely worth the time investment. At this point, I am looking to get a usb-arcade joystick setup because the VR controllers aren't cutting it. Also, bowling is surprisingly fun since there's no weight to the ball, I chuck that ♥♥♥♥♥ like a baseball at the pins.

If those of you who long for an 80's arcade front end for MAME emulation this is an awesome front end in VR! Takes a little while to get it going as you have to get the mame rom's yourself and installed but it looks amazing and it brings back found memories of my childhood. I have been re skinning the cabinets with 4K skins and adding my own touches to the artwork. Looks sweet and is a kind of a fun project as I can get it just the way I like it. Sounds and visuals are stunning. When you come close to the arcade machines you can hear the sounds from each game.
Watch video tapes which you can link your own videos too. Youtube etc.
Play you own music after making your own mix tapes in the game.
Edit the posters in the arcade.
Set up old game console games.
So cool!!

I would definitely recommend this game but be prepared to set up the Mame games yourself and there's a bit of a learning curve but good instructions.
I can't wait to see what they do next.

The game is great but feels lonely. I was lucky to play once with someone else in it. They showed me this cool hidden room behind one of the soda machines, like a secret VIP room that I was never able to figure out how to get to.
If you're an emulator buff and like to configure things, you will love this!

The TLDR:
This is less a game than a hobby. I know the trailer looks incredible - and the game does too - but the customization end of this can be difficult, frustrating, and in the case of broken features, impossible. There are tools to assist (Arcade Manager), and content packs on the internet, but it's not simple. Get this if you want to play arcade games or hang out in an arcade with your friends. Don't count on any of the other features being fun or functional, but you might enjoy them for their verisimilitude. Best for folks in their 30s and older, who have fond but hazy memories of going to arcades, or teen to adult for tinkerers and synthwave fans.
The good:
Basically the ideal arcade. Any game you want, no quarters needed. Movie screen. Fun toys. Minigames like Bowling and skee-ball. It's multiplayer*, so you can play air hockey and jam on instruments with your friends. Works great with a controller right out of the box. Had no problem running it on a 6-year-old video card. You can play MP3s as tapes - I download mixes from the internet so there's more than one song on a tape.
The bad:
The place is really trashy and isn't comfortable to be in imo. There's cigarette butts and empty beer cans and bottles everywhere. Cassettes are littered around the whole game. There's an unmovable pizza box and a box of trash on the couch.
It's really, really, really synthwave. Now I LOVE synthwave. But there are only so many neon chrome triangles I can handle before things feel fake and the nostalgia is artificial.
The ugly:
The ability to stream music and videos is almost totally broken. Even in its default state, this game can't play 90% of the tapes it comes with. It's just not even worth the setup, just use files on your hard drive or stream something in another window.
*The multiplayer functionality stops at actually playing arcade games with your friends. You can't do it.
Good luck finding documentation! There's not really a community for this game, the discord and subreddit are dead, so if you run into problems, you will likely have to solve them on your own.

Just download "packs" from others players (comp sci majors} youtube music in the background and buy an arcade stick.... A fifth of your favorite liqour and play ninja turtles like your mom bought you a hundred dollars in quarters....pays for itself
While i would recommend this game, someday someone out there. Please make a better version of this with full on MOD support. i want to make my own buildings and layouts.

In short and positive, I do recommend getting it solely for a Desktop experience.
It's a great way to relive your favorite arcade games.
The main review:
It's a mess. If the main mode suppose be VR then this feels abandoned as the controls for any arcade game is annoying to deal with. I can't move down or left only right and up.
And navigating is outdated. You don't have smooth turning or snap turning but you do have teleporting but even that's a pain. You have to twist your hand to turn around and there's no way knowing you overshoot or undershoot until you teleport.
You CAN play with you controller in VR with a small step by adding a command line in the launcher. However your controller will assumed as keyboard and you can't change that in option menu.
Which brings up another issue. The option menu doesn't save when you want it to.
You're at the mercy of the game's default settings.
Now before I end this, I acknowledge what happened in the update patch with the dev team getting smaller and smaller.
As a customer I need to say my peace what the game currently is.
I will say the ticket arcade games preinstalled is really fun and the multiplayer shooter game as well!
Maybe Vive players have a better experience. From a WMR player point of view. It's awful.

Great idea bad execution. Non vr works well but in vr sucks. Game was made almost exclusively for the vive and did not detect any of my inputs (im on a Index). Have no problems with the fact that its a front end and not an actual game but couldn't get the controls to work so I refunded it.
I am finding this game so late. I wish people would come back to it, its amazing. It has so much potential, I wish the developers would breath some new life into it.

Se vi piacciono gli arcade, le vecchie sale giochi anni 80 e 90 pieni di Cabinati e non vi dispiace "sporcarvi le mani" imparando cose nuove, questo è il front-end che fa per voi.
Se invece fate parte della Generazione ZERO, date una possibilità... Capace potete scoprire qualcosa che magari nascendo 20 anni prima avreste potuto amare come l'abbiamo amata noi.
An INCREDIBLE concept that will sadly probably never come to fruition, i'm sure you can get some fun out of this game (with a big caveat being that it is essentially a front end emulator for light gun and retro games with you needing to provide your own roms and do a lot of tinkering and playing around with the game before you get it working well) but it really sucks to see a game with so much potential be pretty much abandoned.
The concept is good but requires wayyy to much tinkering and configuration to get things going.
There needs to be a better import system.
I spent 5.5hrs configuring and about 30mins trying to play. I saying trying because 85% of the time the ROMs crashed me to desktop.
I'd rather just play SNES9x, MAME32 or one of the other desktop emulators.... this isnt worth the trouble.
I may revisit if someone has a bunch of preloaded layouts that all work.

Not half bad, but it is kind of bare bones, if you don't have this one expansion pack that's not included with the game. I forgot it's name but that alone is what helps the game by a huge margin. I would say I recommend if you are really into virtual arcades like I am.

Honestly, from the get go this software is much better then anarchy arcade you can do quite alot with this software but it does require moderate knowledge on how emulation works you don't need a to be a pro at programming or any of that just mostly know how to work file directory's if you work an office job then that should be second nature to you at best plus it even comes with some mini games but i highly urge you set up the roms/emulation because those mini games only add to the experience if you play the game just for that i assure you your going to be bored fast.
Pros: Make the arcade you allways wanted, Can hang out with friends and watch videos together or hang out, Fun mini-games to play in between.
Cons: Not 100% customizeable there are some limits especially depending on what emulators were talking about, Vr experience is a bit clunky at best your experience may vary, and lastly updates they been not really a thing for a while now dispite the software feels complete in some aspects
9/10 I would recommend this software to a emulator enthusiast who wants a fun experience i do not recommend this software if your a casual gamer and dont have alot of spare time that said ANYONE can use this software it just takes a little bit of time and effort

It takes some legwork to set up, but New Retro Arcade Neon is a must have if you're into virtual reality.

For right now, it's way too quirky with the controls. I mean, when you play VR, you're not supposed to have to "work" to do basic things like play a VCR tap or a guitar. They need a ghost "finger" where you can press buttons and the guitar has better rotation.
Don't get me wrong, it's a GREAT idea and very unique.....only it sucks to navigate some of it.

Played with a Quest 2 over AirLink, an xbox fusion controller, and a GTX 1060. What a roller coaster of an experience. First, it looks and sounds great. Then, you discover the amount of work - with zero documentation - to add even one game, and feel disheartened. Next, you find a NRAN Setup pack from like 6 years ago that gets lots of cabinet art and attract mode videos, joystick and button positions, wow, excited again. But wait, now you discover that any game from 1994 or later plays basically in slow motion, no matter how much you dial down settings. But, you read a note about attract loop video affecting performance, rename that video file so the games all look like they're off until you're using them, and hey, now more games are fully playable, even if the sound is a little stuttery! Unfortunately, you realize that most of these games need an xbox controller to play, in addition to motion controllers to start them, and that the rumble per input press is loud and aggressively unnecessary, with no way to shut it off. Fortunately, you find the Microsoft accessibility software to download for extra options, and create a profile in that to turn off vibrate, since this game ignores the vibration option set by Steam. Anyway, after all that, I am having a great time. Would recommend it, but reviews here mean it when they say set up is not for the faint of heart, even if you find one of those community setup starter packs.
This is what VR is made for. Very nostalgic experience for anyone who remembers the old video arcades of the 80s/90s. If you do not have any experience with emulation, it may be a little daunting to set up, but in that case try MAME arcade emulator first as it is easier to use and when you have learned how it all works, come back and set up your arcade.
I would definitely recommend Nabeday's arcade manager as the included one is not as intuitive to use in my opinion.
Great front end for your emulation setup, with a few other games included like 10 pin, basketball, Whack-a-Mole and darts etc. I have read that there is a new version coming, but I have no idea when this is going to be. 10/10 for this version though!!

Oyun güzel düşünülmüş güzel tasarlanmış ama bazı eksiklikleri var.
- Oyunda sağa sola dönmek ve ilerlemek için stickpad ile yapmak istediğiniz de belli bir çember içinde olmazsanız yapamıyorsunuz. Çember çok dar ve sürekli aşağıya bakıp çemberde miyim acaba diye emek sarf ediyorsunuz.
- Ses sorunu kesinlikle var, anlam veremediğim bir şekilde oyunda ses gelmiyor menüye girdiğiniz de oyunun sesi geliyor.

This is an amazing game in VR if you take the time to set it up. I recommend using Nadebay's arcade manager as it makes things so much easier.
I grew up in the era of the arcades and it is so nice to be able to put my headset on and be back in an environment that brings back such great memories.
You need to put some work in, like sourcing your own ROMs and video/music files but when you piece it all together with the attract screens blaring out and some classic 80's pop and rock hits playing on the ghetto blaster, it truly is something very special.
If this game were to make any improvements in the future, I would like to see more rooms or a bigger room to fit more cabinets in and some more special cabinets like for the racing games and games like star wars or afterburner.
Highly recommend the game to anybody with a desire to relive their youth at the local arcades!

Nightmare.. No instructions. Glitches non stop. Locks Freezes . Controls do not work. Says I am at 9% and 96 Minutes and I have not got anything to work. I wonder if its this HP REVERB? anybody else with Reverb able to use this game? Of Course it didnt work on just PC mode either. Newest and Best Computer and nothing with this game.. Missing the old days now.

Well have to say I am impressed however I cant help but feel it is missing something, maybe they should have kept it as early access and added more arcade styles games and things to do, like different style shooting cabinets or even sit in style racing cabinets for starwars of daytona style games, maybe they are working on a new game that will have this, but so far so good..
You're going to need some ROMs to play in your virtual arcade. This game doesn't come with any.
However, there are several collections on steam you can purchase.
SEGA's MegaDrive and Genesis classics games on here on the Steam store can be purchased and include the ROMs.
Also, on steam is ATARI's Vault, giving an additional 50 game ROMS. Plenty to get you started.
If you don't want to buy them on steam, ask friends or drop by on the discord server and people will be happy to show you where to get more ROMs from. For example, you can pickup the Cloanto Amiga forever pack on the PC or even super cheap on Android and take the ROMs from that. Alternatively you could rip the games you already own...
Once you have your ROMs in hand, you can work on designing and creating your own Arcade, and for many that's the fun. It's certainly a throwback for anyone that spent a lot of time in the arcades of yesteryear and want to relive that part of their lives, even if it's a little neon styled.
A good 'game' here, more a tool for amusement. It's got a little bit of a hard learning curve, but again discord group will help when needed, or you can download some of the pre-made arcades.
The only downside to it is the inability to create your own arcade buildings. Changing the cabinet layout and locations, artwork is all good, but if you had a arcade from childhood that you're like to replicate more closely, it would be nice to create our own buildings. The game is supposedly being re-written, who knows if it will make it, or if we'll get this feature. Regardless, if you have access to ROMs and want to create your own working arcade, go for it.
If you have a VR headset it's all the better.
Was AMAZING when I played it on the Oculus CV1 in the past, but now that I have a Valve Index, it doesn't work.
One controller will be frozen under the play area making it impossible to play with more than one hand.
Hasn't been updated or anything in a very long time, seems abandoned which is a HUGE shame.
No update and hard to configure.
Get Unreal Engine + Blender and learn how to make UVmaps looks more easy and faster than configure this "tool" + no help on the web, few documentation. Don't lose money and time ! :)
This is an amazing concept. Although unfortunately for many that's all this will ever be. I wanted so very much for this to work. I had heard the horror stories of others trying to setup their neon arcades and yet i still chose to dive in and give this a chance. I tried using their built in manager. I tried using Nabeday's manager add on. And i tried various roms, emulators and outside resources, but to my dismay nothing worked. Unless you are an absolute GOD at emulation and you REALLY know your ♥♥♥♥ stay far away from this because it is not worth the time. if you really want some arcade action download Fightcade. Sure it's not as immersive, but it's free and there's multiplayer. **Final Verdict**
It's really hard to recommend NRAN... I certainly wouldn't recommend it to everyone, especially if you are new to emulation and a computer newbie, stay far away from this, unless you have a real nerd friend to help you out (or happen to be one). That said, the end result of a well set up arcade in NRAN is awesome. I'd say EmuVR comes close and is better at providing VR emulation for consoles, while NRAN is better for VR emulation of arcade machine games.

I wasn't ready for the learning curve it takes to get this emulator frontend working properly. After trying some after my initial frustration, I finally got things working the way I wanted. Be sure to read the guide exactly, watch a Youtube tutorial or three, then read the guide again and use it as a reference. Even then there are some things not mentioned in the guide. You will most likely encounter an issue, but you won't be alone and most likely there will be a hint somewhere the steam forums to help you out. If I had to compare the difficulty of configuring NRAN, I'd say it's about the same as setting up a modded Wii with Wiiflow (probably a useless comparison for most people, but I'm sure someone gets it) or using modding tools in other games (the UI is kind of bad). That's hacky software. This is a commercial product. Still despite all the annoyance, I thing the end result is worth it. Setting up this game is hard. Be prepared to spend not 2-3 hours, but multiple days figuring out how to use NRAN. This was not what I was expecting. Your time spent on the setup will depend on your level of emulation and pc skill / knowledge. You will not be "playing" the game after buying it. First you have to build your own arcade. Don't bother with trying to find a pre-made configuration pack for the game, believe me, I tried and the one I found was outdated and only lead to more issues and wasted time that would have been better spent on actually learning to use the arcade builder.
Read the Guide, learn to use builder tool, add things one by one, not all at once. I'd suggest starting with SNES games using .sfc ROMs (get cartridge [url=https://emumovies.com/files/file/1865-super-nintendo-cartridge-labels-pack-no-intro/]label images here[/url], you need to make an account, but it's worth it). Then Posters (use this [url=https://ivilded.wixsite.com/whatever/resizer]image resizer tool for posters[/url]). Then add Radio stations, VHS and Music tapes. Be sure to test your Arcade every time you add something new, so you don't accidentally break something without knowing what caused the issue. Only after you have done the previous things, got them working and have some idea of what you are doing, I would suggest trying to add MAME games and customizing the arcade machines.
There are some things I still couldn't get working quite right:
- Using Youtube links on the VHS tapes to stream videos. First VHS tape streaming doesn't work at all, then I found an updated youtube-dl wrapper on the forums and replaced the outdated version of youtube-dl that the game uses. This let me stream from youtube, but it's janky. It hangs and doesn't play the video smoothly, unless I pause and let them load for a bit. I'd suggest forgetting about the youtube-streaming feature and instead pre-download any videos you want to watch in the game. Makes sense anyway...
- Attract screens (adding these is a confusing mess)
- Certain MAME games - some work, some don't

I found New Retro Arcade after playing Hypercharge, the newer game by the developer, when I checked what other games they had made. As a retro gaming enthusiast who has made extensive use of emulators before, this seemed like is might be the kind of "game" for me, a new and interesting way to enjoy old arcade games. NRAN delivers that, but I didn't expect the setup to be as involved. It really is a laborious pain to get how you want it. From the occasional emulation compatibility problems, to tracking down and inserting artwork for the cabinets and adding attract screens... it looks cool when it's done, and you walk around for a bit playing the various machines, but then you notice something is missing and rather than fiddling some more, you just give up and open RetroArch.
In the end the NRAN feels like an arcade that is closing, rather than one that is being revived. The lack of multiplayer on the Arcade machines and no more updates to the game add to that perception. It's as much about fiddling around with things, so they look nice (almost like animal crossing, but more frustrating), as it is about actually playing the games. The developers were upfront about these drawbacks and I thought I could look past that, but it's just kind of disappointing that the end result falls flat, just before reaching its potential. It's a nice interactive VR diorama, but not worth the effort, unless you somehow enjoy the tinkering.
One thing worth mentioning that I discovered in my search to set up NRAN is [url=https://www.emuvr.net/]EmurVR[/url]. It's not a virtual arcade, but aims to be an "Emulator, but in VR" experience in a smaller room that you can freely customize. It's free, supports gamecube, wii, ps2 and 3ds, has online multiplayer for most systems (but not all) and is being more actively developed with new features.
Just GET IT ! Set it up with premade packs and then make ones yourself (takes time to make/edot artwork but it's a hobby, no ?)
Would me great if new updates would come to this one of a kind project. Devs are busy with another game.
Back when I got the game, it was a wonder to play arcade games in an environment that catered to it, but now it's really just an experience you use a couple of times. I would've used it more often than I would, but the current tools available make it hard to invest in the game. Some of the biggest critiques I would give is allow more cabinets or cartridges and to allow you to create your own arcade layout, instead of using the two they give you. Also, not sure if it was something wrong with my setup, but the game is now failing to do anything anymore. So unless they make a major update, then I can't say I recommend this game.
Its kind of cool. The biggest problem is that the arcade is much too small.

So much potential but it is a huge pain in the ass to configure. Do not buy this. I lvoe Digital Cyber Cherries but do not buy this unless you want tp spend hundreds of hours setting it up for your own amusement.

1. VHS tapes. Simple video files (i tried several that are supported) dont work right or crash the game
2. Genesis roms have never worked for me. Ive never even seen someone else run one they always play SNES games. ive tried bin, md, gen. etc. as well as several different systems. Different Windows installs, never worked, but says it supports it...SHOW ME!
3. the attract screens requires you to know how to do advanced video editing. You overlay a square of recorded video onto a video file that has different games on a grid....damn so i need to learn to video edit? okay....no
4. cant play or see roms over multiplayer...whack.
So overall, I just don't know. Devs need to get back on this and finish this cool concept of an idea
No updates since 2018 so I /really/ can't recommend this game. The devs are supposedly working on a new version from the ground up which if/when that releases I'd likely say the game was worth checking out. Right now it's just in bad need of an update.

10/10 for being able to escape harsh reality. Play an 80's jukebox playlist and some arcade ambiance on Youtube for full immersion.
Initial setup is pretty difficult and their method of locomotion is frustrating. It also hasn't been updated since 2018 so don't expect it to get better. Awesome idea but it needs some polishing before I can recommend it to anyone.

New Retro Arcade is amazing, I've always wanted to be able to visit a retro arcade and NRA:N lets you build your own. The actual customisation itself feels a little clunky, the editor could be simplified slightly - especially the format the attraction movies have to be in.
My recommendation would be to find a pre-built mod pack online to get you started. After a good few hours spent tinkering I was able to create the arcade I wanted. In limits anyway.
All the machines can be customised, but the layout of the arcade cannot, and about 3 arcade machines are special machines with a slightly different screen angle, however you cannot control which machines are these 3 special ones.
If you don't mind spend some hours to create the machines you want, fighting the slightly clunky builder program, then the current version of NRA:N is for you. It is great, however there are a few bugs here and there, and a few features seemingly absent entirely. The devs have stated they intend to return to NRA:N in the future, but have said that since 2018.
Oh, and as the description states, whilst playing with a friend can allow you both to interact with the 1 in built light gun game and the air hockey table, all of the arcade machines will not transfer over to the other players so you will not be able to play the same arcade machine with someone. If this was implemented, I don't know how difficult - if at all possible - this would be, but I would love to see it.
Overall, NRA:N is in need of attention by the devs, something magical could be created here, but for now it is still a solid, and amazingly fun little arcade sim. I would recommend to anyone with some patience and a love for the retro synth style.
Still waiting for this to become even vaguely playable on Index. Right now it's just pretty to walk around in VR mode, maybe throw the basketball, but that's all you can accomplish. It does not have appropriately mappable controls for Index, and the community mappings really don't get the job done. The entire experience is very janky and frustrating.
Overall, this does not feel like a finished product.
Best mame emulation ever good for covid 19!
I absolutely WOULD NOT recommend you pay for this program as an emulation front end, it's incompatible trash. I've been emulating old games for over a decade and have a large library of games which I run in MAME, bSNES, KEGA, SCUMMVM and DOSBox mainly. I've even custom programmed my MAME graphics to resemble an actual CRT monitor as accurately as possible from memory and overlaid classic arcade bezels on them. My point is I LOVE retro emulation and am fairly good at it, I even plan to build a physical arcade cabinet so having an entire retro arcade in VR seemed too good to pass up.
New Retro Arcade is over complicated and under explained, even something as simple as inserting image files to use as posters is a time wasting headache. I've used two front ends for MAME and had no trouble with either but Retro Arcade doesn't support emulators and makes you scour the web for Libretro cores instead. SNES ROMS that I've been using for years and are in a compliant file format refuse to run in this program and my 300+ arcade cabinet ROM collection is next to useless. Every time you program a new SNES game into Retro Arcade you have to start the program, navigate the whole way through the building (at a frustrating snail's cawl), find the cartridge, pick it up, insert it in the console then start the game. And when your compliant ROMS aren't working this results in a LOT of wasted time and frustration while you try to get things running.
I've spent HOURS upon HOURS (mostly engaged in fruitless and infuriating Google searches) trying to make heads or tails of this game. It's seeming less like a 'labour of love' to me right now and more like a 'fools errand'. I'm gunning for a refund, it definitely doesn't work like it should. My ENTIRE LIBRARY of SNES, Megadrive and MAME ROMS will not run in New Retro Arcade. You need a degree in video editing and graphic design to get attract movies and posters to appear correctly. The devs are charging money for this product but haven't made any effort whatsoever to make it accessible or transparent in any way.
It's unusable trash; steer clear or have a LOT of your time wasted trying to get it to work.

"For years now, the dev has been saying "don't worry, we will be updating this game and working on it soon" - NOTHING since 2018."
THAT IS IT. That is my "ban reason". For stating the truth. There have been zero updates since 2018, and I stated that fact!! It should not be the case that developers can abuse power like that.
Also, would you believe, that if a dev bans you from their game, you can no longer leave a reply to comments ON YOUR OWN REVIEW of the game? Steam, what are you thinking? Get that sorted out.

I purchased this years ago, while the devs were saying to people that this game would be worked on as a priority "very soon", with lots more features to be added, bugs fixed, made more user-friendly, etc, etc.
The last update was 2018, with none of the promises kept. The dev’s excuse? We are busy working on another game. Seriously, this is not good enough. How about not working on another game until you have completed THIS game, and delivered what was promised? It just shows you the type of people behind this project – they think it is ok to take your money, make promises, but break them so they can go and work on something else. Hey, they have our money, right, so why not? Well, any decent person would not think this way.
This is very disappointing, as the atmosphere of the game is excellent and has great potential. Just a pity the dev team isn't very good. If a dev promises to work on the game, but then abandons it, it should be possible for EVERYONE to get a refund. If that were possible, maybe then they would be motivated to finish games before moving on.
NOTE: For some reason, my play time has been lost. I had a few hours on this game years ago, but now it registers as nothing.

If you always dreamt of owning an arcade place since you were a kid then this is atleast the closest to that dream especially if you don't have the money to build one. In this game you're the owner of an arcade place and you're free to customize a lot of stuffs to your liking. From the arcade machines, the console/handheld games, music, posters, and even the movies in your theater. You have all the freedom to turn it into your own personal nostalgia and chill out place.
For the cons let's start with setting up everything especially the arcade machines, how it will be too complicated for a lot of people, and how it could probably take you days to get everything working. The game also doesn't tell you where to get all these roms and emulators because of legal reasons so also keep that in mind when starting. Now after getting your roms/emulators in there still the trouble of looking for your arcade machine's cabinet design and attract mode for it. So most of this stuffs will take a lot of time but it's also pretty rewarding after all that hours or even days of work. There are also some downloadable game packs out in the wilds if you want to skip all these complicated stuffs but I've only seen a few and you don't really have the choice with the arcade/console games since it's someone's own work. But hey atleast you can change the games you don't like. 8/10 for me.
Fantastic arcade environment, be sure to get the Arcade Manager Add On to make setting up your arcade easier. This is sure to bring on the nostalgia for older players and still offer a unique gaming experience for all. You can also play it in either flat screen mode or VR.
This game is a dream! I've spent many hours customizing and this little bit of software has genuinely become my happy place. Can't thank the devs enough for all their hard work.
