Finally reviewing this after owning it for god knows how long.

Chill, goofy party game that's enjoyable solo. Fun art, plenty of endings to unlock as well.

This game is 8 years old this April which makes me feel dizzy so I'm not gonna think about that anymore!

I didn't use multiplayer much, but this writing is a great roller coaster. It does get difficult to find all the endings without a guide. Two are locked behind Damien and Liam.

I came to this game in an interesting way: I was in a room full of Lolitas and one suggested we all play this game she was keen on. This led to an evening of voicing all the dialogue in the goofiest vocies imaginable.
So yeah, it may be a dating sim but it manages to stand out from the rest with some side-splittingly funny writing and lots of imagination. Definteloy recommend getting some friends together and see who read the dialogue in the goofiest voice.

Bought this game + dlc just because of Zoe. Took 3 tries and a guide telling me the stat requirements, but I finally got the eldritch cutie to go to prom with me. Oh uh... rest of the game's cool as well. Buying the game gave me +2 FUN and +1 BOLDNESS IRL.

It says I only have 5 hours on this game, but through my friends gameplay I have easily over 20 hours in this game. I love the characters, story, and gameplay loop. If you love silly stories, to voice your own characters, or roleplaying, this is the game for you.

The humour is absurd, the characters are well-written and hilarious, the scenarios will always manage to surprise you no matter how thick-skinend you think you are. A great party game, especially if you decide to do the voice acting yourself!

好久之前打的了，画风文本和人设都还挺有意思，史低入了玩感觉还是非常值（特殊结局挺多的）。周目数多了后期会比较无聊，刷结局刷的我是真心累……这一作局内引导实在少，没上手前打的一头雾水。老游戏出优化感觉费劲，挺喜欢这个系列的画风，dlc和续作基本都支持了一下，许愿后续系列能慢慢出一下官中吧！

Being a visual novel type game, the game world is entirely 2D and takes places across various different backdrops. There isn’t much variety and no option for exploration or interactivity other than choosing your next destination.

There isn’t an overarching narrative, it’s just small stories about the characters. I did find the writing to vary from okay to cringy and terrible. It’s mostly what you would expect from a juvenile high school setting, but with the characters being monsters.

[h1][b] Gameplay (Mechanics/Difficulty) – [0/10] [/b] [/h1]
The mechanics loop consists of choosing a character, answering three questions, the last of which forces you to be matched with a character, and then choose three activities a day that each have two choices. The choices you make affect your stats, which impact whether how character you are matched against responds to your request to go to prom.
To me this felt very gimmicky, lacking educated player choice, and too ambiguous unless you are using a guide.

Being a visual novel, the difficulty is of course low, there is “Game over” other than you simply not getting a prom date. However, the way the special endings occur and the stat-based requirements mean that it's very difficult to say correct choices without a guide.

Good graphics. There are barely any animations, but the art style is good, fun, and vibrant. I’d say early PS4-era.

On the technical side, I encountered an issue where my screen was flicking on the top half. I went to go and check the V-sync setting and didn’t see any graphical options? Pretty lazy. I had to use Nvidia app to force options on.
Other than screen flickering, runs flawlessly and I didn’t notice any bugs.

Seems okay. Music is a bit repetitive and largely generic.

There isn’t much voice acting, just a few lines for each character.

There is a lot of replay value to see all the endings and scenes. Also, a good amount of achievements and mod support!. If you enjoy the gameplay, I could see this lasting a while, but I did notice on only my 2nd(!) playthrough there were scenes starting to repeat.
The game is quick enough though - there are two options for a playthrough, 30 minute or 60 minute games (with no option to save!).

Monster Prom (MP) is a visual novel that is tagged as a dating sim. It’s not so much a sim as it is choosing absurd choices that you think the character would like and hope your stats are high enough at the end for a trip to the prom. I only found the game okay at best, and was largely disappointed.

My main problem areas were the repetition and the way that endings work in regard to stat requirements and choices. You only have two choices with every interaction, so that alone is kind of limiting. But the big thing is that both choices can be correct, it just depends on which of your stats is higher than the other. To me this is frustrating since characters not only have stat requirements to go to prom, but for the real endings you really gotta do specific things. I played through about 10 games and never stumbled across an ending once. Only after using a guide I realized the issues with this and how crazy you’d have to get with the details of your playthrough to get endings. Not very fun, as the repetition is too great for the chance of spontaneous outcomes being successful.
To add to the negatives, the ending I did get by following the guide? Nothing even noteworthy and not worth the effort.

I did really enjoy the characters and art. Yes, the characters are often very one dimensional - you have the airhead royal princes, the party girl, meathead jock, ect, but even with the limited time with them, I felt them to be fun and decently written. The artwork is great, and I liked the unlockable art as well.

Overall, I was disappointed because this almost feels like a game show instead of a visual novel. I would have much preferred better and deeper writing with a better story instead of how gimmicky this was.

Awfully cringe. Do not buy this game.

At first I thought you have to choose the most appropriate response in dialogues (by this I mean, the least stupid one). Actually, you just have to guess which one better suits your current stats. Which doesn't feel like proper roleplay, but ok, I got this mechanic. The thing is...

They're all ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid! Remember this kid in school who tries to be edgy and cool by shouting "provocative" jokes. But every and each one of them lands flat. No, not flat! It induces a complete silence, since this guy thinks that making a joke only requires exlclaiming swear words and mentioning sex.
This game IS that guy! It just doesn't make sense

Honestly, I bought it to look at hot monsters, not to feel this excruciating second hand embarrassment for the developers

It's a very cute game with witty writing. The designs are really charming. Though as with all dating games, you sort of have to grind through all the dialogue to get all the endings (which I did after 35+ hours), and some of it can get a bit repetitive, but still quite enjoyable. The best thing about this dating game though isn't actually the romance for me. I was more invested in each character's relationship with each other. Like I could actually believe they were friends with each other. It was sweet.

Игра безусловно красиво нарисована! Типы монстров для персонажей, и их характер тоже подобраны разнообразно, чтобы романсить каждого было интересно. Однако, игра чаще не даёт желаемого результата. В игре, где тонна исходов, довольно поломанный баланс. Чтобы звёзды сошлись, нужно каждый раз при встрече отвечать положительно, что чаще не удаётся из-за схожих черт характеров двух персонажей в одном выборе. В общем, я много расстраивался, и если вы такой же сентиментальный, не берите эту игру...
