Gonna have an amazing dream tonight, then all of a sudden it'll turn into a horror- where a zach solitaire game comes in outta nowhere
There are no tutorials so you'll feel lost on how to solve the puzzles at the beginning. Then when you learn how to play the game, it quickly loses its charm because as you progress, contructing slightly more complex molecules becomes very repetitive very soon. The included soltaire game is totally out of place and there is an achievement where you have to win 100 super boring solitaire games, horrible. Overall, 4/10.

Very skippable as far as Zachtronics games go. The mechanics are fine, but mostly feel like a remix of Opus Magnum. The story is extremely minimal, there's no interesting worldbuilding hidden in the UI or the puzzles, there's no wild new mechanics introduced at the midpoint that change the way you approach puzzles. The use of real molecules for the puzzles is neat, but it does feel like it limits the puzzle design and makes some puzzles more tedious. Overall, the puzzles are still solid and eventually get very challenging, and the solitaire minigame is decent, but Molek-Synetz made me realize that I want a little bit more from a puzzle game.
Maybe it's my previous attachment to organic chemistry, but this game is just so charming to me through all its simplicity.

If you are into Zachtronics games, you know you will like this game. It's a bit more spartan in graphics and gameplay than some of the others, so it's not an ideal entry point, but the bare simplicity is kind of cool and Zen. I dig the style. I wish it was possible to play comfortably on Steam Deck, but you use the mouse and hotkeys a lot.

This game is very barebones compared to others in the Zachtronics lineup, but the puzzle solving is just as fun and rewarding as the other ones. The most enjoyable part of the game for me is figuring out how to place the precursors just right so that assembling the final molecule is as easy as possible.

fun game, but if you don't remember high school chemistry you're not going to understand it. I'm not sure if its worth the full 10 dollar price tag, but for the price i got it at (it was on sale for 5 dollars) its 100% worth it.

Zachtronics puzzle game. If that phrase made any sense to you, you’ll know what to expect -- for those who don’t though, Zachtronics’ games involve placing and manipulating combinations of inputs to create specified outputs. They're also hard - devilishly, almost [i]unbelievably[/i] hard.
In this case, you're taking smaller molecules and moving, rotating, splitting, and merging them into larger, more complex ones (which are then removed from the system), with each new puzzle demanding a certain new molecule be made. As with most other Zachtronics games I played, though, the kicker is that the solution [i]must be able to repeat itself infinitely without breaking.[/i]
This may sound simple, but these games are as challenging as they are fun to play -- and while they're certainly not for everyone, if they click for you, you'll find a collection of puzzle experiences unlike anything else on Steam.

Very enjoyable! It seems quite clear that the main source of difficulty is meant to be optimizing your solution, which I don't really care for personally, but even without that some of the molecules are fairly tricky to set up and building a successful layout is a lot of fun even when it's very suboptimal.
I lost my soul to this game, 10/10

It's pretty much like Opus Magnum but easier, and more mysterious plot.
Playing through the campaign is a breeze, but y'know not every Zachtronics puzzle should be hard... right? (I mean it's Zachrtonics, it should be hard). But whatever.
Still do recommend! Even though it's one of the worst Zachtronics' games (don't get me wrong, the game is really good, but there are objectively better games (Opus Magnum))

If you can temporarily unlearn that rule, your months grinding ochem will help you a surprising amount.
The only minor point of frustration I had was learning the classic Zachtronics "hidden order of operations" game that defines a lot of the midgame. In the case of Molek-Syntez this largely manifests through both double bond priority rules and when combining motion and charge manipulation.
If you play other Zachtronics games you will likely be familiar with having to teach yourself the game's underlying rules for collapsing "dual-states" (eg, picking one of two conveyor directions in Infinifactory). This game is no exception but I fit being at the forefront of the game made it surprisingly easy to work with.

Вот был у меня случай, звонил курьер сказал через полчаса приедет, ну и я глягул думаю полчаса ещё долго давайка я быстренько одно из решений оптимизирую - бац а курьер уже звонит что он уже здесь, да и по часам те самые полчаса прошли - а для меня по ощущениям пролетели за несколько минут!
Да и не слишком трудная - самое то чтоб и извилинами похрустеть и чтоб голова потом не болела.

When you combine the shape management of Opus Magnum with the constrained tools of TIS-100, you get Molek-Syntez. Even though I used other games to describe it, this game is surprisingly unique.
Everything about this game is minimalist. The stark aesthetic, molecules, the limited space and tools you have to work with all contribute to this feeling. Minimalism has spirit of efficiency that Zachtronics games thrive on.
This is on the shorter side of Zachtronics games, but that's only if you're trying to complete everything without going for the most efficient/optimal designs. I think it ends before it gets too repetitive.
The bonus campaign is excellent. It includes harder levels that require you to use a unique set of components that are entirely different from the main campaign, so it's practically a whole new game.
This is a remarkable game offering versatility to both more casual and hardcore puzzlers alike. It is one of the more accessible of the zachtronics games in terms of mechanics (although not so much interface) providing ample resources to reach a solution. Conversely, for those who like to limit their own resources, it can provide hard dopamine hits fuelled by beautifully torturous tinkering with the option to see percentile leaderboards to [strike] taunt [/strike] benchmark yourself.

This little programming game affirms my near-spiritual admiration of hexagons. Its monochromatic field of play being a fixed grid of them, onto which a player inserts chemical precursors--water, ammonia, hydrochloric acid--and then provides instructions to the grid’s inward-facing particle emitters, which in turn rearrange their hexagonal formulae into more complex pharmacological outputs: peroxide, chloroform, & amphetamine, to name only a few of the introductory “levels.” (Is the hardest boss I’ve beaten this year actually just an anxiolytic medication called mebicar?) The game, if you can even call it that, consists of largely experimental, backwards interpretation, in which you program individual tasklists for the six emitters--add a hydrogen atom here, push the molecule two places forward, rotate it clockwise--tweaking uncertain inputs towards certain outputs. Its major appeal comes from both the multitude of possible approaches to any one drug composition and its lean ambience, the mechanical hum of its black machine whirring and clicking along to your solutions.
Upon finishing certain compounds, you’re treated to a few vague sentences from the perspective of an erratic & underground protagonist, who much like you sits staring at a screen, though in a drab Romanian apartment sometime in the late 21st century (“The difference between helping and hurting is just a few atoms.”) These lore-drips are rare, and merely a small piece of an eerie, subdued presentation which punches well above its weight. Zachtronics really don’t get enough credit for these refined diegetic interfaces--since the screen you’re looking at is ostensibly identical to our fraught narrator’s archaic terminal, your actions in-game always feel ultra-aligned with the game’s universe despite the fact that the OChem on-screen obviously takes great liberties with the real thing. (As forum STEM bros feel the need to point out.)
This is a Zachtronics game, so your ability to find fun here is likely commensurate with your interest in optimizing solutions to open-ended problems loosely associated with real-world programming and/or engineering. And there’s as much, likely more, to be gained from discovering efficient solutions to simple problems as there is to brute-forcing ugly input lists for those which are more challenging. An interactive litmus test for Occam’s razor, then: no coincedence at all that a more efficient solution is also more beautiful.
I think it’s a shame that Opus Magnum seems to have had the most staying power within and outside of the Zachtronics community--MOLEK’s druggy minimalism and harsher hexagonal spatial constraint really sets it apart as its own thing. If nothing else, this is the only Zachthronics title I don’t ever feel the need to relearn upon returning to it after a year or more away. Its straightforward rules and no-nonsense vibes make it remarkably easy to pick up for five minutes or five hours, quietly but without question cementing it as one of my all-time favorites.

Another incredible Zachtronics game. To be honest, it just feels so good. These games are HARD, don't get me wrong. Especially the older you get (SpaceChem is painfui), but, after compelting the main campaign and half of the bonus campaign, I can assure you it's a worthwhile buy that you will enjoy A LOT, at least if you like this very specific kinds of games that Zachtronics always brings to the table. Also, the solitaire is really great.

I like this game a lot. I like the minimalist aesthetic. I love the dark ambient atmosphere. I like that the story is sparse and unobtrusive. I like that the solutions are actual molecules. I like the GIF exporter. I like that you can arbitrarily raise the difficulty by limiting the number of modules you use. I like that the rules are discovered through exploration, and that there is hardly a tutorial and no manual.
The main complaint I see from other people is that this is like opus magnum or otherwise doesn't feel as innovative or exciting as other zachtronics games. I vibe with it heavy and love the return to a TIS-100 esque minimalist experience. I think you can tell if you'd be into this.
neat problem solving chemistry puzzle game
I generally love Zachtronics, but I'm finding this one... annoying? It just feels a lot more fiddly than the other ones in a way I'm not enjoying very much.
I think there are two primary reasons so far.
1. The mechanics are annoying. The zachtronics games always involve solving interesting puzzels with seriously limited systems.. but this one just seems limited in some particularly obnoxious ways (for instance: you can't directly control when new input molecules get dumped into the device)
2. The UI is annoying outside of the mechanics. Again, that's kind of true for all of these games, but with this one I keep having to get out a piece of paper to draw things that I should just be able to see on screen. and that's not really the fun part of the puzzle solving for me.
So in summary, more complicated and fussy to solve than previous games, but not in a way I'm actually enjoying.
It is a good game.
I like older Zachtronics, but he really should have stopped after Exapunks when he completely ran out of ideas. Tediously screwing around with adding or removing hydrogen atoms until the bonds do what you want according to rules that are never explained and are completely opaque (so it's literally just trial and error) isn't a game, it's just trying random nonsense until something randomly works.

Too hard to get a grip on what to do learning curve too high for most people and needs a decent tutorial or everyone will just use cheats,
It's yet another zachtronics game, with all its positives. I feel this one's a bit too easy to just simply succeed at each problem with compared to his other games, but the challenges to beat will keep you engaged past that point, and as a chemist by trade I found the flavour of this one particularly fun.
Fantastic puzzle game with some truly challenging levels, worth a shot.
I didn't like this one. It's extremely similar to Opus Magnum, but with the molecule manipulation turned inside out in a way that makes the system much less flexible and interesting. While it's cool that they managed to engineer out the need for glyphs by just having bonding/unbonding occur as a side effect of shunting hydrogen atoms, this just makes it less interesting since you can make bonds anywhere and there's no fusion/transmutation
Every puzzle was easily solved by just slamming down precursors in basically the same shape as the output, dumping hydrogens onto any extra atoms, and fixing up any missing or extra bonds. There's still some room to optimize after you get your first solution as usual, but I wasn't interested due to the rigid and restrictive feel. There's technically not a single way to solve each puzzle, but there's usually one obvious decomposition into precursors and not much space freedom
The only moderately tough puzzle was the second to last one, it took three tries instead of one
I also didn't really like the stark design or the way it just throws you in with no tutorial. I'm not sure I fully understood the bond rules ... obviously each atom type has the max bonds specified and breaking double bonds / creating single bonds is preferred over breaking single bonds / creating double bonds, but I'm not sure what the order for creating single bonds is when multiple are possible
The main character's narration is really cringy. I understand that the minimalist aesthetic was chosen to immerse the player as being miserable and trapped in their "small Romanian apartment" and this is supposed to explain their edgy misanthropy, but it's just bad
There's no option to skip to a given instruction like in exapunks or opus magnum
There are glyphs for wasd, q, e, r, f, v, x, and c, but even though the ui shows there's a locked one for z, it's not available in any of the main puzzles. Maybe this is used in some of the bonus puzzles, but I don't really feel like playing the bonus puzzles or solitaire for this one.
If you like zachtronichs, this is good, because it is zachtronichs.

Standart Zachtronics game, this one with a bit boring monochrome color scheme.
It sat in my library for a couple of years, I tried it and got bored in two hours - but it more or less what I expected.
Not terrible, but still basically the same game as Spacechem, just slightly different interface. try it if you like Zch's games and not appaled by screenshots.

What can one say? It's a Zachtronics game. Two hours of hatred and suffering buys you two minutes of intense joy and pride (and mesmerizing beauty, if you're good enough). A much better ratio than you can usually get in real life!
I tried this out as part of the Zachtronics bundle since I like many of their other games but I couldn't get into this one. The UI is meh. The first 15 or so puzzles didn't pose any challenge and just felt tedious to complete. Maybe it gets better, I don't know.
If you like this sort of puzzle I'd recommend Opus Magnum instead. It's got similar mechanics (and is fairly easy imo) but a much prettier interface. If you like the UI but want a challenge, go for TIS-100 instead.

It's a Zachtronics game. You probably already know whether you will or won't buy it just from that alone.
So you get:
- Clever pseudoprogramming puzzles
- Dystopic plot
- Zany solitaire variant
- Many hours of brain-teasing
Although by Zachtronics standards, this one is miles and miles easier than the norm (except the Solitaire, naturally, which is why 4 out of 6 achievements of the game are tied into it).

- use a rudimentary programming language to make drugs
- completely forget about molecular chirality and wonder why your solution is not working
- get frustrated
- open solitaire
- realize you are bound to cheat in solitaire (nothing will ever feel like shenzhen io solitaire)
- play a few rounds with a profound sadness in your heart
- try to make drugs again
If you know Zachtronics, you know how this game works. It's like Opus Magnum Lite.
I found it really enjoyable. Completed most of the main puzzles. Very typical Zachtronics quality and polish. Can't go wrong for $10 or whatever it is, if you like this type of puzzle.

Warning: the game is very difficult. But since it's a puzzle game, your main issue will be the solitaire, since you can just look up a guide if you're stuck on a puzzle (which will thoroughly ruin the experience).
Anyways, the game is very complex, similar to other games by the same developer, ESPECIALLY magnum opus. I think you should play that game first, and if you enjoy it, try this one out, as they play with the same core concept. The story is nonexistent. The graphics are minimalist.

1. You wanna scratch your head looking at the same synthesis for an hour
2. If Organic Chemistry didn't torture you enough in school
3. You like weird/unique mini games
That is to say, I feel at home playing this game. It combines academic progress and understanding of basic chemistry concepts into an easy to understand play-style and puzzle game.

MOLEKSYNTEZ is one of those puzzle games where you start playing it thinking you're pretty good at puzzles and then about halfway through you're staring at the screen wondering if you're actually stupid.
There is a full guide available if you truly need the solutions, but the real fun of this game is trying to find either the least amount of moves needed or the least amount of precursor molecules (you can never really do both at the same time). There are always several ways to solve the same puzzle, some of them are just more optimized than others.
There really isn't much for music, kind of just some industrial noises? (But I'm hard of hearing, so maybe I'm missing some nuance) So I'd suggest having your favorite music or podcast on in the background for optimal enjoyment.
It also comes with Solitaire! Just a word of warning though, if you're going for the "MORALIST" achievement it's going to take a while. Each hand of Solitaire is random and not every hand is winnable without cheating, you'll just have to keep restarting to get a good hand for it. (Which is exactly what I did to get that achievement out of the way first).
Overall, I'd recommend it for people who actually like brain–meltingly difficult puzzles and don't mind a monochrome color palette.

As one of Zachtronic's final puzzle games Molek-Syntez feels like a bleak note to end on. It has all the mechanical and functional feel of a zach game, but its stylistic minimalism and the blunt game design leave it feeling as cold and lonely as the narrator. A slightly dire send off for old fans and far from the place to start for those new to the series.
Your goal here is to program tools affixed to the edges of the board to re-arrange base elements into new ones, but how you do that is left to your experimentation as there's no instructions or tutorial. This hands off approach may leave you feeling helpless or empowered depending how much experience you have with the series. Long time fans will be able to intuit most of the gameplay while newcomers will be at a loss quickly with no guidance except what little guidance the fan base have put together.
If you enjoy zach games this is very much more of the same with some new twists - it feels like an experimental remix of Opus Magnum minus the flare and pageantry. The story is limited to some on-screen text so there's no characters, art, or animations, just you and the puzzles. As for the style and music, if you think of Exa as the stereotypical US themed game, Shenzen as the Asia one, and Opus as the Western Europe one, Molek is very much the Eastern European game with the cold and sardonic tone tropes at play.
I feel like zach games have always struggled to make their titles feel more fun than functional, but here the pretence is eschewed and you're left with the mechanics laid bare. If you're familiar with Opus you can expect a similar albeit more challenging experience, and if not you should start with something more accessible like EXA-Punks or Opus Magnum. This isn't one for newcomers and will likely give you a polarising introduction to the premise of these games.
Play literally any other Zachtronics game.

If you're watching this tape, I'm probably dead, murdered by my brother-in-law Hank Schrader. Hank has been building a meth empire for over a year now and using me as his chemist. Shortly after my 50th birthday, Hank came to me with a rather, shocking proposition. He asked that I use my chemistry knowledge to cook methamphetamine, which he would then sell using his connections in the drug world. Connections that he made through his career with the DEA. I was... astounded, I... I always thought that Hank was a very moral man and I was... thrown, confused, but I was also particularly vulnerable at the time, something he knew and took advantage of. I was reeling from a cancer diagnosis that was poised to bankrupt my family. Hank took me on a ride along, and showed me just how much money even a small meth operation could make. And I was weak. Upon recovery, Hank was bent on revenge, working with a man named Hector Salamanca, he plotted to kill Fring, and did so. In fact, the bomb that he used was built by me, and he gave me no option in it. I have often contemplated suicide, but I'm a coward. I wanted to go to the police, but I was frightened. Hank had risen in the ranks to become the head of the Albuquerque DEA, and about that time, to keep me in line, he took my children from me. For 3 months he kept them. My wife, who up until that point, had no idea of my criminal activities, was horrified to learn what I had done, why Hank had taken our children. We were scared. I was in Hell, I hated myself for what I had brought upon my family. Recently, I tried once again to quit, to end this nightmare, and in response, he gave me this. I can't take this anymore. I live in fear every day that Hank will kill me, or worse, hurt my family. I... All I could think to do was to make this video in hope that the world will finally see this man, for what he really is.
A little "easier" than some other Zachtronics games but still quite challenging and a fun puzzler overall. The aesthetic is very monochrome and minimalist, which adds to the immersion. Channel your inner Heisenberg, if Walter White was a Romanian recluse. If you're an actual chemist you may notice some idiosyncrasies, but it's fun to make familiar drugs like aspirin and tylenol in one puzzle, and then illicit drugs in the next

If you like Zachtronics games, you'll like it. Not as great as Opus Magnum in terms of feeling unrestricted, but not as restricted feeling as TIS-100 or Shenzhen IO either, and nowhere near as weird feeling as something like EXAPUNKS. I found pretty much every level until Dimercaprol fairly easy to optimize into the fastest bracket, but can't speak to the other optimization categories as they aren't really interesting to me.
Molek-Syntez is Zachtronics' last, and surprisingly, most barebones molecule constructing game. It utilizes a different toolset than either Spacechem or Opus Magnum - you have a set of remote waldos that can move on the circumference of the work area, and manipulate molecules with a very limited set of commands. Also, your inputs are not atoms but full molecules which you need to modify or even completely disassemble to achieve the targeted compound. The visuals are absolutely minimal with only a few shades of gray, the story is very very simple (although, not uncharacteristically, quite creepy), but the controls are good, and with a bit of practice, you can enter commands easily with nimble fingers.
The puzzles are usually also good, but not as good as the other two games, and by some distance. The very scarce set of source compounds (there's one set for the main puzzles and one set for the bonus ones) inspire some creativity in the earlier levels, but then make several of the later solutions a mechanical chore, or partially one, and I rarely felt motivation to sink hours into optimizing the solutions, which is usually one of the best aspects of a Zachtronics game. Recommended if you've completed everything in their other games - it's a good game, but not quite up to par with its siblings.

I love it. About two thirds of the way in and I look forward to the next time I can work on one. It has a bit of Opus Magnum feel but in a more minimalist presentation. Two thumbs up.
