A wonderful and emotionally aggravating (in a good way) game about attachment and responsibility and burden. Story had me wanting to know more about the world and it's history and had me rooting for Mo, the main character, to see what we all do. Whether she did or not you'll have to see yourself. Gameplay wise it was straight forward and simple puzzling and a little platforming. Near the end I was starting to feel impatient with the gameplay feeling a bit repetitive and tiresome even with the shaking up of the formulas. Not helped by this was the cut scenes that dragged out so unnecessarily long, that didn't really respect the player's time. This was the biggest complaint but it wasn't breaking at all. Other than that I ran into a bug in a puzzle that made me restart but that was it.
All in all I found it a really good experience and super happy I played it.

Дал игре шанс из-за того, что мне дилогия The Inner World понравилась. Арт и обложка обещают приключение, но на практике его нет, так как игра сама не знает, чем хочет быть.

С первых же минут дизайн нарушает главное правило "показывай, а не рассказывай", и начинает тебя грузить какой-то бесполезной информацией через рассказчика.

Потом она начинает грузить тебя искусственными граблями-паззлами в духе "найди три рычага и покрути их". И ты начинаешь тыкаться в каждую стену, пытаясь через телепатию и перебор понять, что игра от тебя хочет.

Ей нужно было быть рельсовым кинцом, которое брало бы атмосферой, а она начинает давить игрока аудио-рассказами, кривым управлением и детскими паззлами, не зная, что делать с тем артом, который разработчики придумали.

Красивая обложка, но кривая реализация.

No esta mal el juego, es corto, entre 6-7h aproximadamente para completar todo, la historia no esta mal, artísticamente es hermoso, el gameplay es sencillo y los puzzle son fáciles de resolver, spoiler para completar los logros, hay uno que es de devolver la llave, ese se realiza en la parte del faro, antes de partir debes devolverla ya que no podrás retroceder (a mí me toco repetir el juego hasta esa parte para sacar el logro)

This is one of my favorite [shorter] indie games. It's beautifully drawn, story rich, and has many deep life thoughts. I really enjoyed learning the "issues" of the world throughout gameplay and not right up front, kept me wanting to get to each new chapter. [spoiler ish] As much as I love happy endings, I like that the ending was realistic and worked well with how it was written.

I wish there was another game visually like it, maybe with some extra exploration or a larger map story. It's worth going through a semi calm (lol) gamestyle with a very unique plot and visuals.

Also, the side scroll and illustration actually led me to try out Hollow Knight XD I come back to this when I want something calmer.

I am determined to finish this game, but MAN is it slow. The controls are fidgety and the cut scenes are constant. I want to care about the characters, but they're all so weirdly disconnected that you don't really have any reason to. It's also supremely depressing. Shout out to those that made it because the art style is very cool, but it's not for me.

Another review described this as a visual novel with platforming elements and I would broadly agree. The visuals are gorgeous, and establish a strong tone. The gameplay itself does not feel inherently engaging, but I did at least like the setpieces I got to see. The actual play itself is rather slow, often being caught waiting for cutscenes to complete before you can continue. The story is linear, and from what I remember there's only one decision to make, in the latter half of the experience. I wouldn't replay the game to see what would happen differently, just because I'd get impatient waiting for all the cutscenes I've already seen to plod through.

I *would* like to see more from this studio, hopefully they have quite a few lessons learned on how to make their future works more intrinsically engaging!

玩过很多比较催眠的独立游戏，即使跟它们比起来这个游戏节奏也是特别地慢，主线流程做完的人才不到三分之一，好在美术音乐真的加大分才让我坚持玩下去，各种元素的堆砌，血肉机械的融合，诡异而奇美的珊瑚和搁浅鲸鱼，色彩的强烈冲击是这个游戏的一大特色。茉儿开始非常地叛逆执拗，中后期不知道是不是孢子吸多了心境也发生了转变，看到幻象中搁浅的鲸鱼变成了自己的样子，不理解所有人也不支持所有人。后期旁白崩坏，开始压力鼓动茉儿与亲人决裂，万能开关真的别拿来当武器啊孩子orz。。。。钥匙被毁巨人死亡，飘渺的希望也烟消云散，茉儿不能也不想继续爬鸟屎台阶，钻地下迷宫，然后鞭策巨人996拉磨了，拯救世界什么的我做不到，巨人最终石化沉寂。结尾致谢字幕出完之后，茉儿乘上船去往远方，远方又会是怎样的时光在等着她呢。（btw那头一直在船头东张西望的小宠物真的好可爱,最后还拉我一把它还怪好的咧）

Minute of Islands está mais para uma peça de arte do que para um jogo.

Você vai precisar estar na 'vibe' para apreciar o jogo. O gameplay é minimo (caminhar, plataforma simples, puzzles triviais). O jogo consiste em explorar esse mundo criativo e estranho. Uma mistura de pós apocalipse, futurismo e um pouco de lovecraft? Achei intrigante.
Conforme explora irá aprender mais sobre as ilhas e a história da protagonista. Gostei das músicas e da boa dublagem.

Para um jogo focado na história, achei um pouco raso. Ou melhor... pouco desenvolvido.. Entendi a mensagem que a história pretende passar, mas alguns pontos ficaram fracos pelos personagens não terem sido muito desenvolvidos.

Os detalhados cenários, as sutis animações da protagonista e a música criam uma experiência tocante.

Bom game.

Tem alguns problemas, um errinho ou outro de bug, mas nada quebrado.
O jogo em si é muito bom, a arte é linda, a história é boa, os puzzles não são chatos (na verdade eles variam até que bem e eu gosto muito de puzzles).

Mas o mais lindo é o final e a mensagem do jogo.

El juego, para mí, es como un episodio de “Hora de Aventura”, sobre todo en la forma de contar la historia (con una animación similar y excelente), jugando dentro de lo grotesco, lo lindo y lo divertido, tal como lo hace la serie.
También me recuerda a GRIS en algunos ámbitos, tanto en el estilo como en lo filosófico. Es tranquilo y tiene un solo objetivo que cumplir: la misión de Mo. Todo es lineal.

Dura lo que tiene que durar, entretiene, tiene puzzles simples y una buena historia, y el estilo de animación me encanta. Una cosa que dejo como aviso es que no tiene selector de capítulos ni algo similar, y hay un logro “perdible” que puedes pasar por alto: “No me gusta robar”. Tengan cuidado con ese, para no tener que pasar la historia de nuevo, o al menos hasta el punto donde debes hacer el logro (como me pasó a mí).

Una enseñanza que me deja el juego es que, aunque quieras hacer algo y tengas todas las ganas de lograrlo y hacerlo realidad, no siempre podrás conseguirlo por mucho que te esfuerces. Y eso no es algo tan malo, porque diste lo mejor de ti; no había nada más que hacer y toca afrontar lo que deparará el futuro.
En efecto, recomiendo el juego.

Minute of Islands ist weniger ein klassisches Spiel als vielmehr eine interaktive Geschichte. Mit seinem besonderen Stil, der atmosphärischen Musik und den besonderen Charakteren zieht es einen schnell in seinen Bann. Thematisch geht es um ein Leben nach einer Katastrophe – um Verlust, Trauer, Tod, Familie und innere Zerrissenheit, wie man mit all dem Umgehen soll.

Die Story ist stellenweise verwirrend, besonders die Gedankenwelt der Protagonistin Mo, was die Identifikation nicht immer leicht macht. Teilweise hätte ich sie gerne angeschrien, was zum Teufel sie sich bei manchen Sachen denkt ... :D
Das Ende lässt Raum für Interpretationen. Grafik und Sound werden zunehmend düster, während das Gameplay sehr simpel bleibt und klar der Geschichte untergeordnet ist.

Wer ein fröhliches Spiel mit "Happy End" erwartet, wird enttäuscht.
Dennoch hat es mir gefallen. Kinder würde ich es allerdings nicht spielen lassen, da schon einige unschöne und verstörende Stellen dabei sind.

You don't need to play this game, just watch it on YouTube if you're curious. This game is slow, repetitive, and boring. The game has a horrible tendency to pause the game to focus on information the player already understands. I feel like the art style is put up on a pedestal, while story takes a backseat, and gameplay was ignored entirely. After chapter three I was done with the game, nothing is here to keep me invested.

Visually, this game is gorgeous - and the worldbuilding immersed me like nothing else. Even through my frustration with the game's mechanics I was still invested enough that I wanted to continue playing. The animations are charming, and the creature designs can range from cute to disturbing while all feeling a part of the same planet. The narrators voice is perfect for the role. I felt like I was being tucked into bed (In a good way!) The different character motivations also give the world so much life. Not everyone is 100% rational, and it reminds the player of the humanity of the family. Watching arguments, and emotional conversations play out gives more information on the dynamics, without feeling like I am being explicitly told. Fantastic writing.

On a slightly negative note -this felt more like a visual novel with some platforming elements. The game has an irritating tendency to take the controls away from the player for visually expositional cutscenes (There are drawn out animations that play every single time you walk up to a boat, every single time you walk into a tunnel, etc) It can feel jarring to fall into a flow state while playing Mo, only to have the controls taken away from me in order to spell out a puzzle I haven't even gotten a chance to start. The game wants you to explore - but only on its terms, turning me away at times when I am not meant to go towards a certain area. I can understand this as the story is linear, and certain actions need to happen sequentially, but it doesn't make it any less irritating to experience. The maps are interesting, but the puzzles are repetitive and require a lot of backtracking to complete. It allows us time to take in the detail in the map, but can feel like I am being prevented from actually playing the game.

If someone is expecting a more action focused, and player driven puzzle platformer you may be disappointed. If you are looking for a world to immerse yourself into, with good music, art and narration - then I highly recommend.

the main character who's [b] not [/b] perfect, the strange voice that is her inner anxiety voice imo, the final and the phrases that will be stuck with me. and the graphics! you can screenshot almost every second and get the great wallpaper

From the very beginning, the game warns you that it will touch on heavy themes — and that warning is absolutely justified. I really liked how the developers contrast the bright, colorful surface levels of the islands with the dark, gloomy, sometimes even unsettling underground areas. This contrast feels like a reflection of different sides of the protagonist’s mindset and inner thoughts. [spoiler]If you also take the hidden rooms in those underground sections into account, they can be read as yet another layer of her suppressed thoughts and emotions.[/spoiler] The story itself resonated with me as well: it gives glimpses of the past and present of this post-apocalyptic world while still leaving a small sense of hope for the future.
I was especially impressed by the narrator — Megan Gay delivers an outstanding performance that genuinely held my attention throughout the game. The gameplay is quite slow-paced (even running feels deliberately slow), so it’s something to keep in mind before starting. Це добре відображає різні сторони світогляду та внутрішніх переживань головної героїні. Minute of Islands has the foundation for a powerful story the stunning hand drawn art, the eerie and imaginative world, and a tone that constantly hints at something deeper. You can feel yourself wanting to fall in love with it. The atmosphere carries themes of responsibility, guilt, letting go, and holding on to the people who matter, and at times it comes close to being genuinely moving. However, the experience ends just as it starts to build momentum. The world looks rich and full of potential, yet the narrative wraps up too quickly to explore everything it introduces. It feels like there’s a bigger, more fleshed out story just beneath the surface that we never get to see.

The gameplay is where it struggles the most. Instead of supporting the narrative, it becomes repetitive slow traversal, simple puzzles, and a lot of interactions that feel like busywork rather than meaningful mechanics. The controls can feel clunky, and that the game’s pacing often stalls because it asks you to repeat the same tasks without adding much variety. The narration and environmental storytelling do a lot of heavy lifting, and they really shine, but they can’t fully make up for the monotony of the moment to moment gameplay. It’s an easy game to admire from a distance harder to stay fully engaged with once you’re playing it.

Overall the game can be described as a great visual experience that keeps you hooked, but it had its quirks I did not enjoy. It's relativelty slow paced, becomes repetitive and some cut-scenes should be skippable. Definitely a game that is not for everyone, but many will remember fondly (or at least cause some other emotional response that you'll remember).

Absolutely excellent, intricate, hand-drawn aesthetic and environments in the vein of Adventure Time meets Hollow Knight.

Fantastic voice acting with little cringe or camp. The time and talent it took to create this must have been staggering.

Awe and wonder games (with thin puzzle gameplay mechanics) typically need consistent pacing and an interesting story or theme to justify the person spending time on it. Unfortunately that is not here.

They built a very slow and very easy puzzle platforming game with repetitive and long action transition sequences, insane amounts of needless backtracking and a game mechanic that resorts to QTE's basically.

I would love to see what else this game has in store but I just can't sit through it long enough to get there.

This is an intensely lore-heavy game with an incredible number of cut-scenes and non-interactive elements.
The constant removal of player control is very annoying and just makes the game feel so extremely slow, on top of the sluggish commands and janky platformer elements. You'll cover each element of the path at least twice, which adds to the felling of slow progress.
There are a couple of user-choice points, but otherwise it's entirely a follow-the-prompt game. Which is good, because the story is so full of jargon and widgets that it's impossible to care about any of the characters.
The style and music and great, but the constant frustration it brought up in me makes me hesitate to recommend.

Spiel ist nicht spielbar - ca. 2-3 Minuten nach Start kommt eine Sequenz wo man "Pumpen" muss - das funktioniert nicht. "S" + "D" halten und "F" wiederholt drücken - aber es passiert überhaupt nichts bei "F".

太美了，所以值得原谅一切美中不足。登高望远的空灵感与禅意令人想起Jusant，墨比斯风格构筑下精巧的地图联通像是迷宫大侦探，和煦悠扬的配乐直接将人带回童年那个抱着迷宫书幻想冒险的午后。你要问我喜不喜欢这部作品，那肯定是很爱的。

但老实说不太推荐游玩，首先是构思一样的收集体验。比如开局贝瓦岛就足以给人一个下马威了，如果你非常不幸有所遗漏，那就得面临在长达1h跑图时长的硕大地图里大海捞针的困境。（建议直接查攻略）不得不说这关的设计质量最高，体感上也是最接近迷宫绘本的，后续地图容量逐步下滑了。（初见感⬇跑图⬆后续开发资金不足？）其次，操作本身并不流畅、指引不清晰导致经常迷路，特别是一些向下跳的点位藏得很隐蔽。主角常伴小动作，爬完洞穴拂衣摆、转完阀门拍下手。还有全程捧读、故作高深的旁白，语速奇慢且不容跳过，都强行放缓了游玩节奏。这套组合拳打下来进一步增强了跑图痛点，堪称对耐心的究极折磨。相较之下，同样讨论时间的Harold Halibut竟然允许跳过对话，真是非常仁慈了。

不过话说回来，游戏内点题处表明了回到当下、感受美好的核心(还参杂了一些亲情和解)，也许这种刻意放缓是有道理的。我们总是过分执着于事物运作的结果，背负了太多自我设定的莫须有压力，却忘记了已然拥有沿途靓丽的风景。做不到就不做，拿不到就不拿，直接借用好友评测里的话：这世上还有几个游戏是[spoiler]拯救世界失败，所以干脆去TMD不救了的呢？[/spoiler]

Decir que he tardado mucho en jugar este juego porque no me llamaban los gráficos, que equivocado estaba, el estilo cartoon es una pasada el juego está muy bien hecho y los mapas son una pasda.

I really wanted to love this game and kept coming back to it in the hope that I'd like it more if I was in the right mood, but it just doesn't work. It's like 75% cut scenes and player-restrictive animations and 25% actual play. It's absolutely maddening how much waiting this games expects of a player. Every time you go to a new island, there's a cut scene with voice over, and then there's an animation of your ship's dock unfolding where you can't move, and after you get off, there's another animation where you can't move as it folds back up. There are so many pointless little animations where you're frozen where you stand! You should be able to walk away if you want to. It absolutely ruins the pacing of the game, and I've finally accepted that I'm not interested in finishing.

I just got the Chapter 2 Completed achievement shortly before I wrote this review, and it says only 34% of players get that. That means the majority of players quit the game before they're 2/5 of the way through the game.

К сожалению в игре нет русского языка и так же отсутствуют какие либо русификаторы, потому я очень плохо понимала происходящее. Ориентировалась в основном на свое слабое знание языка и визуальные подсказки!

Но все же даже с половиной понимания играть было очень приятно. Так же присутствует отличное аудиальное сопровождение! В конце пустила слезу. 👉💧

Я очень надеюсь что люди заметят эту видеоигру и поддержат разрабов, ибо такой красоты должно быть больше! ☝️😌

A quiet, melancholic journey through a beautifully decaying world.
I love the art style, colorful and at the same time dark and somber. Themes of death and decay are present throughout, but they’re woven so naturally into the world that they feel more everyday than shocking.
The soundtrack is subtle and fitting, never loud, but always there, supporting the mood.

Gameplay-wise, this is a light experience. The puzzles are simple, and there are no real "challenges" in terms of difficulty or decision-making. That might disappoint some, but I appreciated the clarity and straightforwardness. The loop of the gameplay is a bit repetitive, which for me worked well, it gave the game a kind of rhythm that helped me engage with it in small sessions over several days.
Emotionally, it’s a melancholic experience, with themes like loss, self-doubt, and (the burden of) responsibility. If you’re looking for a calm game that lets you explore a story and an atmosphere more than test your reflexes, Minutes of Island is well worth your time.

Definitely recommend this game if you enjoy story-centric, atmospheric, and slow/relaxed paced games. The art is very beautiful and unique, and I really enjoyed the soundtrack as well. There is a strong interactive fiction/narrative focus unlike more traditional puzzle platformers, and the puzzles are fairly simple (which was a positive for me). And the pacing is purposefully slow to focus on the story and message of the game but if you are low on time and/or patience that may be frustrating. Also, as far as I could tell, there is no way to return to a previous area so keep an eye on getting all the memories in each area before leaving.

Вайб присутствует. Лично мне было интересно проходить и искать каждое воспоминание Мо.
Минусы есть. В одном моменте неадекватно отображаются имеющиеся воспоминания. В частности - в подвале, где сидит Сафан(первый великан, которого надо активировать) . Мне пришлось проходить заново всю игру, что-бы добыть их. Ведь после того, как сафан начал крутить шарманку - их нельзя залутать. О чём игра вам не скажет. Благо она хоть сохраняет при новой игре то, что вы уже нашли (воспоминания). Однако игра очень медленная, из-за чего перепроходить было довольно тяжко. Но тем не менее - игра хорошая.

The game's style reminds me a lot of Adventure Time which was initially why I purchased it. I'm really glad I did. The pacing of the game gets you absorbed in it's lore. The narrator's story telling really grips at Mo's (Main characters) feelings all throughout. 省流：如果你是衝著美術來的，別對游戲性和故事性抱有期望。
開頭說是創傷重演，講給類似遭遇的人，初期的碎片化敘事確實使人感到寂寞和殘念，但是到結尾才發現都是、也只有莫名其妙不知所云的發瘋、發癲、發狂、發爛、發臭，主角的脾氣和人物關係急劇惡化，無端的芥蒂、無端的矛盾、無端的任務，請問想寫的是什麽創傷？
平臺跳躍手感很爛，解謎乏味，操作很少，大多數時間是强制觀看慢得像故意水時長的小動畫。你做成微電影算了，還省得我操作你那個有自己想法一般的步行模擬器了，走路走得我耐心下去血壓上來還是頭一回呢。
結局之後還不能選關卡，如果有錯過的回憶必須重開。我忍氣吞聲赤了7h的石還剩最後一個“完成所有成就”的成就實在是痿不自禁了。就這個播放速度還不能跳過，二周目誰愛玩誰玩。

"Minute of Islands" is a very beautiful German indie game with a soul.

The hand-drawn art is straight form the most beautiful modern comics, if you know what I mean.
But don't get fooled, it is a pretty dark and personal story.
The voice acting is superb, it tells the story and effectively conveys the emotions of the protagonist.
(Why no German Full Audio in a German game? At least add it out of principle. Pride & representation where?)

The biopunk setting and style are overlooked.
The bio-mechanical constructs that cover the islands in their tendrils are cool
It also is a nice juxtaposition to the alien fungus, the abandoned coastal architecture, corals and dead sea life.

The game's greatest flaw which most players complained about is how the game is very slow.
While I agree with that sentiment, after analyzing I realized that it was completely INTENTIONAL.
In fact, when the game was tested and that point was brought up, the devs doubled down!
The game asks you to spend a Minute. It is not some highspeed roguelike hack'n'slash.
"Minute of Islands" demands your patience! You must be in a certain mood to play such games.
(If you work a 9-5 and have only 2 hours per week for gaming, I get how such a slow paced game can piss you off..)

When this game was released, the German developers (Studio Fizbin) were indie.
That fact must not be forgotten.
Yes, the devs sold out and went corporate with their latest game "Reignbreaker (2025)", but back then they were indie.

"Zack Hemsey - The Way" - That song came to mind, it explains Mo's struggle with duty... idk how to explain it.
The game has something to say that will stick with you for a while.
Honestly, I underestimated this game, but was left surprisingly satisfied.
Despite its flaws, I enjoyed it :)

是非常简单的一款小众游戏，没有任何会卡关的地方，全成就很容易，基本都在主线路上顺手能完成。属于那种评论两极分化的作品，喜欢的人觉得很特别，不喜欢的人觉得很无聊。节奏慢和故事晦涩这点可能会劝退掉很多玩家，如果是喜欢快节奏、寻求刺激、喜欢成熟卖座的商作的朋友，就不是很建议玩了，确实非常不适合习惯刷短视频和喜欢角色说大白话的玩家，玩了可能会大骂。如果你本身非常有耐心，能不间断地静下来看完一本书或一部电影，喜欢分析谜语人，同时还拥有大块的闲暇时间，那你应该会喜欢这个游戏的。如果你和主角是一类人，那你应该更能理解这个游戏的主线，这本就不是一个表面上看起来的拯救世界失败的故事。

Minute of Islands感觉很难翻译得信达雅，我看一些汉化翻译成“岛屿时光”之类的，不太合适，让人误以为是休闲种田小游戏，实际上是比较风格独特的叙事作品，像在用缓慢的速度读小说。Minute of Islands应该来自奶奶把主角拦下想让她陪自己坐一分钟，听听鸟鸣和水流的声音。故事内容感觉象征意义和符号感很强。主角MO是个怨气很重，还有一点自毁倾向的角色，“你来帮我？你不拖累我就不错了，我自己更快”，她推开所有人，又恼怒所有人的不理解，甚至怀疑别人关心她的动机。她愤怒地要求所有人都戴防毒面具而自己不戴的这个举动，像是在证明什么，又像觉得死了算了，但真正被孢子侵袭肺部的时候又暗自后悔，但也不知道有什么可后悔的。死人感和活人感都很强了。

我觉得故事是好看的，但是有点怎么解读都能行的感觉。玩的人太少了我甚至搜不到剧情解说和讨论（只有嫌弃太慢的和愤怒于故事无厘头的）。我觉得是一个傲慢自大和自以为是又怨气满满觉得全世界都欠她的姑娘，无视和伤害了很多对她好的人，觉得他们都耽误了自己，拖自己后腿，但自己并没有做多好，又嫉妒别人的才华，觉得人家要阻碍自己的成功，明明别人只是在做自己的事情。而且MO有一点冒充者综合征和被害妄想，自卑和傲慢牵制了她的行动。自顾自地忙着自己的事，不关心身边的人（奶奶手里的两个泥人很可能是她去世的双亲，姐姐房间里多出的两个泥人也可能是她不关心也未曾谋面的过世的丈夫和孩子），又觉得别人不关心自己也帮不上忙，最后大家都会离开她（然而当初灾祸来临时他们不忍心让她独自在这里而决定留下来，最后又去接她带她去往新世界）。这是MO她在和自己的执念撕扯和纠缠不清，最后认清现实，放弃四个巨人所象征的“自己的执念”，回到现实里弥补自己的过错的故事。精神独特到戳我肺管子的角色真少见，MO在游戏里演我，我就是一个这样的烂人。

但是确实，我喜欢慢节奏的优质作品，但还是觉得人物的移动速度可以再快个1/3左右，有的爬行动作的前摇后摇都太长了，移动速度和船的行驶速度适当加快应该可以获得更多玩家的喜爱。希望所有游戏都能找到适合它们的玩家。

全成就通关，但我不得不承认这是一坨大的，这六个小时的游玩时长我足足分了6.7次才打完，可见这是多无聊的游戏。
又臭又长的剧情，玩之前看了一眼测评，有个老哥说要经历又臭又长的过场，一开始还不觉得有什么，玩了之后发现老哥说得对，我举双手赞成。
重复度不能说高简直可以说一模一样，你那地下通道巨人又走不了，你自己走还搞得这么麻烦，你这不是脑子有泡是什么。还有无厘头的设定，屎一样的旁白和折磨人的互交，你爬个管子还得拍拍衣服，有这空你不如多走两步拯救世界，最后还给人家巨人整死了，你咋这么活佛啊哥们？？？

Complete slog to play, developer has zero respect for the players time.
Once you play through the first area you've played all the gameplay there is. I wanted to see the all the unique art and story dialog the game had but I missed a memory, or it just didn't show up, and there is no way to replay a section. So you're locked out of the very limited amount of content there is.

TLDR: An interesting Adventure time inspired world with a meaningful story it wants to tell, but it just doesn’t respect your time, and draws itself out I can only assume to hit beyond the refund window.

[b][u]General Thoughts/Overview:[/u][/b]

At what point does a visual novel become a game? How many mechanics are needed? Does it need fail states? Should there be skill gates? Is it even a walking simulator if you don’t have an environment to explore?
I hesitate to call Minute of Islands (MoI) a game… but I also hesitate to call it a walking simulator. It is a story based platformer with very few mechanics, no real skill requirements, nor much to explore… It’s definitely more story based, with a focus on dramatic feelings.

We are Mo, the wielder of the omiswitch (the MacGuffin which makes things doofer). We don’t speak, but we have lots of thoughts and feelings which are painstakingly narrated. We wander about in this Adventure Time inspired world, trying to turn the power back on. Jump, shimmy, and sprint around unlocking memories and doing the next thing to be the hero of the story.

[b][u]Pros:[/u][/b]
[list][*] Wonderful art style which blends beautiful and grotesque in an interesting fashion. This world really had potential to be both unique and interesting, and I had questions and a desire to explore it more thoroughly.
[*] The story itself is ok, a bit blunt and clumsy at points, but it has some poignant moments and presents some interesting ideas through the narrator (who starts out flat, but improves in performance throughout the game. I am unsure if this is intentional.)
[*] The distinction between the different themes throughout is maintained and well done, from the creepy electrical underground to the whimsical delusional visions.

[list][*] SO DULL. [b]SOOOOOO.[i] DULLLLLLLLL[/i][/b]. This game is 2/3 loading time, or cutscene, or animation, or back tracking. IT HAS NO SKIP FUNCTION. You have to endure every second of it, and it’s a lot of seconds. I suspect this has been done to stop people finishing in under the refund window.
[*] There are no mechanics or challenge. I don’t even understand how people have managed to miss the memories, unless they did so on purpose to cut the ‘gameplay’ down.
[*] I’d have liked choice and consequence. I’d like to have had that drink, I’d have liked to wake the lighthouse keeper, I’d have liked to have the soup… I dislike options and offers being presented and just not being acceptable.

If you’re into an artsy experience, or something to give you a little food for thought that isn’t too philosophical. Then this is very much for you. If you want to explore an adventure time style world with same mix of whimsical and unsettling, then this has you covered.

But if you want a game that’s got anything remotely approaching pacing, or choices, or traditional mechanics, then this isn’t for you.

For me, I’d have given this the thumbs up, were it not for the soul crushing time wasting in back tracking and animations. As I came to the conclusion of the third chapter, I timed how long I spent between being able to do anything of meaning… it was 10 minutes. When the game is 5 hours long at an absolute push, having done everything one can do in a single run… That’s just no ok. Every island you spend 30-45 seconds just watching the boat pull in, every cave has 10 seconds of looking around, and every memory roots you in place… It’s just too frustrating to recommend.

노력, 희생, 외로움 그리고 인정욕구.

주인공 Mo처럼 우리는 사랑하는 이, 일면식 없는 사람을 위해 의무감을 갖고 희생할 때가 있습니다. 전혀 다른 이유로 무리하기도 하고요. 그게 내 선택이었는데도, 시간이 갈수록 압박감에 짓눌리기도 해요.
그런 자신에게 사랑하는 이들은 너에게 부탁도 안 한 일을 왜 하냐며 그만하고 돌아와 다른 걸 하라 하고 어떨 때는 일손을 거들려고 해요. 하지만 내가 원한 건 '고맙다'처럼 나의 희생과 노력을 인정해주는 한 마디였어요.
나를 못 믿어서 반대하고 방해하는 걸까? 왜 내가 포기하거나 실패했을 경우의 대책안을 준비하는 건데? 내 희생과 선택을 가볍게 보고 내가 유난 떤다는 식으로 바라보는 것 같을 때는 화도 나요.
'너희를 사랑해서 이렇게 노력하는데, 내가 실패하기를 바라는 거야?'라며 비뚤어진 생각마저 하고요.
어떨 때는 좀 더 빨리 시작했더라면 상황이 지금보다 더 나았을지도 모른다는 상상도 하죠. 그리고 모든 생각의 끝은 지금까지 나의 업적과 노력은 다 쓸모없다는 결론에 도달해요. 상상 속 완벽한 내가 되지 못한 현실의 난 실패작이라며 자신을 질책하죠. 그러다 분노가 터져 해서는 안 되는 말과 충동적인 짓까지 저질러요.

이 게임을 하다 보면 그런 생각이 들 때도 있어요. '주인공 Mo는 어린 소녀니까 그녀의 어리숙한 자아를 바로 잡아줄 보호자와 마음의 안식처가 없어 이런 결과가 나온 걸지도 모른다.'는 생각이요.
그런데요, 생각보다 Mo와 같은 사람은 나이 상관없이 세상에 널려있어요.
작중 조연 중, 한 가정의 아버지가 기억나네요. 그도 Mo처럼 가족의 말을 듣지 않고 자신의 신념을 지켰어요. 그리고 그는 끝내 혼자가 됐죠. 물론 그와 Mo의 상황은 많이 달라요. 제가 말하고 싶은 건, 앞서 말한 주인공 Mo의 희생과 신념은 그녀의 나이, 어리숙한 자아에서 큰 영향을 받지는 않았을 거다라는 거예요.
저는 Mo를 이해합니다. 물론 그녀가 자신의 목표를 위해 범죄를 행한 건 당연히 잘못했고 그것만큼은 고개를 저을 수밖에 없어요.

게임을 하다 보면 여러 가지 모순이 보여요. 등장인물들의 이해 못 할, 부족한 선택이 마음에 걸릴 거예요. 하지만 그건 제3자인 플레이어, 우리의 생각이고 작품 속 등장인물들은 꺾이고 의지를 잃어 황폐해진 마음에서 그것이 그나마 나은 선택이었어요. 가슴에 손을 얹고 생각해보면 우리도 가끔 더 좋은 이상적인 방법이 있지마는 마음이 가는 차선을 고를 때가 있잖아요? 그리고 누군가 그런 우리에게 왜 최선책을 고르지 않았느냐 물으면 멋쩍어할 때도 있고요. 그래서 저는 이 게임의 줄거리에 이해가 안 가는 부분이 생겨도 같은 인간으로서 '그럴 수도 있겠구나'하고 넘어갔습니다. 작중 등장인물들은 감정적으로 무언가를 포기하지 않는 미련한 행동을 많이 하는데, 저도 그런 사람이라 그들의 아픔을 조금이나마 이해할 수 있었어요.
제가 공감됐던 장면 중 또 하나는, 대부분 등장인물이 일을 그르치고 난 뒤 깨달음을 얻거나 이를 받아들이고 더는 아무 말 않는 장면들이었어요.
잘해보려 했는데 일이 점점 꼬이더니 마음대로 되지 않았던 과거가 있지 않으신가요? 그때 여러분은 어떻게 하셨나요? 억울함을 갖고 세상에 분통을 터뜨리셨나요? 포기하고 좌절하셨나요, 혹은 받아들이고 걸어가셨나요? 만약 걸어갔다면 그걸 '극복'이라고 불러야 할지 모르겠네요. 실수로 쏟은 물을 걸레로 닦았다고 해서 그 당연한 행동을 '극복'이라고 말하지 않듯 뭐라고 콕 집어 표현하기 어렵게 지나간 일이 있을 거예요. 제가 그렇거든요. 작중 등장인물들에게서 그런 장면을 여럿 발견해서 저는 확실하게 짚고 넘어가지 않고 어중간하게 지나가는 게 오히려 현실적이라 좋았어요. 아마 이 부분에서 취향이 갈릴 것 같네요.

'핀과 제이크의 어드벤처 타임'이라는 카툰네트워크를 떠올리는 그림체에 반해 구매한 게임이라 눈이 즐거웠습니다. 펜 하나로 그린 것 같은 투박한 손그림체라 좋았어요. 플레이어가 몇 초 만에 지나칠 장면마저 사소한 소품을 모두 묘사해준 덕분에 걷다가도 멈춰서 오브젝트와 배경을 뚫어지게 쳐다봤어요. 그리고 챕터마다 보여주는 몽환적인 일러스트들도 일품이었습니다. 시간이 흘러 완전히 변해버린 동일 장소의 변화도 좋았어요. 게임을 하는 내내 '그림 그리신 분 정말 힘드셨을 거 같다'는 생각이 들었어요. 비슷한 펜 두께와 특유의 색채 때문에 한 번씩 장애물인지 상호작용 가능한 오브젝트인지 배경인지 시각적으로 구분이 안 된 적도 있지만, 그것 때문인지 Mo가 도착해야 할 목적지까지 일시적으로 시선을 일부러 이동시켜 플레이어에게 '이곳으로 가십시오.'라는 메시지를 전달해준 점에 엄지를 세워 보냅니다. 그리고 Mo가 등반할 수 있는 벽 일부를 흰 색으로 칠해줘서 도움이 됐어요.

퍼즐은 딱 하나 빼고 다 쉬웠어요. 저는 직접 풀긴 했지만, 만약 다른 분께서는 직접 풀기가 어려우시다면 인터넷에 정답지가 있으니 쉽게 넘어가실 거라 봅니다.

조작감은 좋았습니다. 게임 초반 적응 기간 때에는 제가 키를 너무 빨리 눌러서 여러 번 다시 누르느라 몇 번 불편했지만 느긋하게 플레이하면 불편하지 않아요. Mo가 직접 몸으로 밀어서 끼워 넣어야 하는 커다란 퓨즈가 있는데 제가 방법을 못 찾은 건지, Mo가 퓨즈 앞으로 지나갈 수 없고 무조건 퓨즈를 밀기만 하더라고요. 그래서 실수로 탈출구가 없는 공간에 들어가 퓨즈를 밀어 공간을 탈출하지 못해 체크포인트를 다시 불러들인 적이 몇 번 있습니다. 퓨즈를 발견하시면 건들기 전에 탈출 경로를 머릿속으로 생각해보고 출발하시는 걸 추천합니다.

기승전결 중 결말 전까지는 이입이 잘될 만큼 매끄러워 좋았는데 결말부터는 곧 풀릴 실타래를 가위로 싹둑 자른 듯 갑작스럽게 마무리해 조금 당황했어요. 하지만 등장인물들 사이 감정의 골의 해소를 쉽고 빠르게 보여주지 않아 현실적으로 보여 좋았어요. 작중 처음부터 끝 무렵까지 서로에게 어색해하고 화를 냈는데 엔딩 몇 분 전에 와서 화해했다면 어땠을까요? 아마 저는 개발자들이 등장인물들의 슬픔을 너무 가볍게 봤다고 화났을 거예요. 오히려 Mo의 삼촌이 말없이 그녀를 데리러 온 장면이 저는 더 마음에 들었어요. 그리고 마지막 도전 과제로 곧 앞으로의 새 여정에서 갈등이 풀릴 것이라는 암시가 더 좋았습니다.

나레이터의 연기와 에코를 사용하는 타이밍이 사람 숨 조이게 딱 맞아 마음에 들었어요.

지금까지 타의로 휴식을 갖던 Mo가 자발적으로 일을 멈춘 장면이 떠오르네요. Safan도 그렇고요. 그녀가 자리에 앉아 눈을 감으니 손을 멈추고는 그녀에게 몸을 기울이는 Safan을 보고 깊은 울림을 느꼈어요. Safan을 쓰다듬으며 해방하는 Mo와 그의 생기가 사라지는 눈동자를 보고 눈물이 났어요. 엔딩 크레딧에서 남은 형제들도 해방된 모습이 가슴에 남았어요. 이야기는 Mo에게 집중돼 있지만 Safan, Bergan, Ande 그리고 Afla 거인 사형제의 희생을 주인공 Mo가 알아줘서 고마웠어요.

Mo가 새로운 여정의 길에서 제일 먼저 Fenja에게 때린 것을 사과하길 바라요. 그리고 그녀의 삼촌과 약속했던 와인도 마셨으면 좋겠어요. Mo의 삼촌도 과거에 머물지 않고 이제는 수년 동안 뜯지 않은 편지들을 차차 읽어봤으면 좋겠어요. Mo와 Miri가 따뜻한 스튜도 같은 식탁에서 함께 먹었으면 해요.

게임을 하는 동안 Mo에게 저를 참 많이 투영했어요. 왜냐하면, Mo는 게임 캐릭터가 아니라 현실에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 우리 주변 누구나가 될 수 있거든요. 그래서 그녀가 행복했으면 좋겠어요. 여러분도요.
진심으로 그러길 바라요.

누군가는 Mo가 아니라 Miri나 다른 등장인물에 더 마음이 아팠을 거 같다는 생각도 들어요. 그래서 저는 앞에서 말한 것처럼 다른 등장인물들도 그동안 미루고 못하고 있던 일들을 이제는 할 수 있기를 바라고 있는 거예요. 그리고 그들에게 자신을 투영한 여러분도요.

I normally don't write reviews, but considering the fact that many people give this game a not recommend status, I really wanted to push back with my own 'Recommend!!!' I think it is too harsh to write this game off because of the 'lacking' game play or too easy puzzles. These aspects are clearly not the main point of the game, they just serve as a tool for the developers to tell their story. Also the slow pace of the game was for sure meant as a choice. The player has to be patient and has to put in the slow-burning effort to eventually be brought back to reality and realize that all that hard work was 'for nothing' and 'not for nothing' at the same time. Our hard work had a different goal than the goal we originally were going for. And I cannot even begin to describe how well-crafted the artwork is. Every scene i wanted to take screenshots because i was literally mesmerized. Just WOW! So, for a game that excels in every visual, storytelling and narrating aspect this definitely deserves a thumbs up and everyone should play this!!!
