Nie dziwę się, że ta gra wzbudza aż tak mieszane uczucia. Lokacje często są przepiękne, pomysł mechanik nie jest zły, choć przydałoby się ich więcej. A przykładowo motyw z elektrycznymi kulami, które otwierają drzwi, powinien być więcej wykorzystany niż tylko raz.

Ogólnie zagadki należą do tych bardziej frustrujących, w których nie liczy się logiczne myślenie, a bieganie po dużych przestrzeniach z nadzieją ze na coś się trafi. Najbardziej frustrujące jest bieganie przez mgłę, nic wtedy nie widać i miałem wrażenie, że dodano tę mechanikę na złość. Nic ona nie wnosi, tylko irytuje i niepotrzebnie wydłuża czas gry. Szczerze wolałbym, gdyby ta gra miała krótszy czas przejścia, ale była lepiej dopracowana.

Muzyki brak, fabuła niby jest, ale tak naprawdę jej nie ma, lokacje ogromne puste i przez tę cholerną mgłę okropnie irytujące. Nie raz zdążyło mi się zostawić kulkę we mgle, z nadzieją że jakoś to pomoże rozwiązać zagadkę, tylko po to, żeby przez pół godziny szukać gdzie ją zostawiłem. Zmusza to, do zapamiętania budowy map na pamięć, a tak nie powinno być.
Same mechaniki pozwalają na tworzenie ciekawych zagadek, tak samo widać, że twórcy umieją tworzyć ładne widoczki. Mam nadzieję, że w następnej grze oprócz widoczków, zrobią też ładne zagadki i dużo ciekawsze, które zmuszają do myślenia, zamiast irytować.
Ogólnie widać tu spory potencjał, który jest okropnie zmarnowany.
I ten klimat, który wywołuje momentami niepokój. Czy to błądzeniem w półciemnych lokacjach, czy to we mgle lub nagła sytuacja, gdy w jaskini pojawia się kula i nie wiesz, czy coś ci grozi, czy nie.
Ogólnie mam takie poczucie, że twórcy nie wiedzieli, co chcą stworzyć i dla tego tak się skończyło. Gra najwięcej by zyskała solidnymi zagadkami, wypełnieniem przestrzeni, usunięciem mgły i niby fabuły.
Obecnie daje łapkę w dół, ale czekam na następne dzieła tej ekipy, bo mają potencjał.

1) You need to fix the game yourself by using a hex editor, otherwise it will crash within a minute.
2) It's not like the game is worth the effort anyway, special mention to the credits + post credits scene being the biggest clownfiesta I have seen in a game.

mind: path to thalamus originally released in 2014 and was the first walking simulator (a genre i was immediately excited about after playing dear esther) to make me realize that, as the genre expands, a lot of them are going to be quite bad. supposedly the developer did a lot of work for their enhanced edition, but i loaded it up back when it released and it was the same old thing: an *extremely* talky narrator with an edgy-dark tone but nothing of substance to say, and the game's absolute refusal to shut up and let the player understand any part of the story on their own. i also don't want to be mean, but there were a lot of flubbed words and awkward delivery of lines - the kind of thing that made me wish there was someone outside the recording booth to go "okay let's do one more quick take of that."

dear esther is a landmark in the exploration of what video games could/should be, but thalamus took all the wrong lessons: in addition to the constant faux-philosophical noise mentioned above, the entire game is a bunch of stark pretty environments that have absolutely nothing to do with what the character is doing or talking about. the island in dear esther is a very specific thematic construction that connects in many many ways to its actual subject matter, while thalamus is some floating staircases and mirrors you walk around while someone else is talking about something else.

it's so bad that i've since winced every time another game says it takes place in "a surreal depiction of a tortured mind," but those types of games tend to be also not great, as they all exhibit an absolute disconnect between the painterly surreal environments and the actual events of the story. no actual world or rules, just a bunch of disconnected images while you listen to somebody telling you what the story is about.

oh, and it was you the whole time. the evil entity is just your character, and they talk at each other.

Olvidado y abandonado.

Carlos Coronado se hizo famoso por este juego, el cuál un tiempo más tarde fastidió por completo.
Recuerdo las tardes viendo a Alexelcapo y viendo un gameplay suyo de este juego. Me gustó y lo compré a modo de apoyo. Quién me diría que años más tarde, sacaría una supuesta "Enchanced Edition" y fastidiaría su obra al completo. Esta versión mejorada de mejora solo tiene el nombre: No para de crashear hasta el punto de que es injugable. El menú muy bonito y tal, pero es imposible jugarla. Fui a jugarlo porque quería probar su versión VR, pero es incluso peor. Para poder jugar al juego, tienes que meterte en las propiedades de este en la aplicación de Steam y decirle que te ponga la versión anterior, la cuál ha envejecido fatal de aspecto a día de hoy.

No, no recomiendo jugar a esto, porque una vez que no sabes arreglarlo es imposible jugarlo. Si Carlos decide lanzar un parche que arregle el juego cambiaré mi reseña, pero por ahora se queda en un "Alejaos de él".

Очередной набор абстрактных рассуждений с попыткой в драму о потере члена семьи, натянутый на красивые, но пустые локации со скучными головоломками, вроде "пройди по невидимой тропе" или "донеси шар до определённой точки". Умер Клим, да и х... ну вы поняли.

Haven't tried it in VR, but I doubt it will change my mind.

It's basically a boring walking simulator with some non-sense game mechanics.
Some physics base puzzle where physics simply does not work and many puzzle where you really don't know what to do.

It's... really not a good game, but there's something charming about jumping into a bad puzzle game full of beautiful landscapes. The puzzles are mostly nothingburgers that don't interrupt the experience much, while the final puzzle is actually fairly good. So it gets a tentative thumb's up, if you're intimidated by all the 10/10 puzzle games in your backlog, and can tolerate the impressively bad combination of "painfully self-serious edgy voiceactor" and "achievements that smugly beat you over the head with the themes of the game". But I enjoyed my time with it.

This game was recommended to me after telling my friend of "The Talos Principle" and I see where they are coming from. You have to solve puzzles in order to unravel a story about a personal tragedy and the human mind, as the name implies (Thalamus is part of your brain). The game looks pretty, the artist was very creative.
There's nothing inherently wrong with the game, but... too bad it also feels cheap. It was clearly made on a low budget. The slow walking speed got slightly annoying, but I spent more time standing and thinking (and admiring the view) than walking.
I had ZERO crashes or technical issues.
I think it's worth the price of around 12 bucks.

Thanks, I hate it. Kept crashing. Had to watch the buckyball fall in the water thanks game now I have to walk slowly to try to get it giving me more chance for crashing. Which it did. I don't mind not having guidance, but hard to navigate is not fun. oh look, light, and buckycall is there, so I get buckycall and try to hold it in light ...nothing. drop tit on light? It rolls and falls and I try to grab it and fall with it. have to start over.
Try to just take buckyball to darkness, game doesn't care.
So I don't care. THe graphics aren't worth it. Especially since this is the enhanced edition, should have been tested more. and had a run button or a farther teleport.
I don't know why I was reccomended thsi game. I kept it too long to get refund. Do not make my same mistake.

I hope you have more fun than I did!
I have the system for it, it's the "game".

Aunque es bonito visualmente, es un poco inconsistente.
Es muy corto y aunque tiene alguna buena idea en los puzzles, el desafío es prácticamente nulo.
Si te viene en un bundle o si lo pillas muy barato, te da para 2~3 horas de escenarios bonitos pero poco más.

Chaque décor est soigneusement réalisé, et d’une scène à l’autre, le jeu parvient à créer de l’émerveillement.

Les amateurs de beaux paysages et de photographie virtuelle y trouveront largement leur compte : difficile de ne pas s’arrêter régulièrement pour admirer les panoramas ou capturer quelques souvenirs de cette aventure paisible. Le titre assume pleinement son côté simulation de marche, tout en y intégrant des casse-têtes qui apportent quelques défis, certes parfois trop simplistes, mais suffisant pour maintenir l’attention sans casser le rythme zen de l’expérience.

Uno tiene que aplaudir la audacia del juego de llevarte por un viaje tan surrealista que haría que Salvador Dalí se sonroje. Los efectos atmosféricos son un festín visual y no puedes negar que mover nubes y cambiar las estaciones a golpe de puzles tiene su gracia. Además, la historia tiene sus momentos, tirando de preguntas existenciales y metiendo alguna que otra narrativa emotiva que podría orillarte a soltar una lagrimita (si es que los acertijos no te han hecho ya llorar de frustración).

Si bien el surrealismo es genial, navegarte por este laberinto puede sentirse a veces como buscar una aguja en un pajar... si el pajar estuviera también hecho de agujas. Los desafíos pueden ser confusos y a veces sientes que necesitas una bola de cristal más que tu cerebro para resolverlos. Además, a pesar de que la musica y los efectos están bastante bien, las voces pueden dejar un poco que desear, como si el cómico de turno se hubiera quedado sin chistes.

Played the VR version through Quest 3 via Virtual Desktop. It wasn't designed for playing on the Quest and it shows. It was difficult to get started, working out the controls, figuring out how to get audio, etc. After that it was just ok. Didn't age well in VR standards.

Then there is mechanics that are so freaking pixel perfect it is stupid. Some thing is supposed to fling you up on a 'platform' but of course it either not fling you at all or it flings you right next to it.
Screw this. There are so many other walkingsims with puzzle elements to chose from.

Esse é um jogo que eu gostaria que a steam tivesse a opção "Mixed/Talvez", que é a sensação que tenho desse jogo, mal consigo me lembrar quando que comprei esse jogo, mas com toda certeza foi antes da versão Enhanced então seria em 2013 ou 2014.

Isso é importante pois quando comprei o jogo via as imagens e imaginava um jogo de puzzle maneiro com ambientação bonita, mas na verdade, é um jogo sim, com ambientação bonita, porém é mais um "Walking simulator" do que um jogo de puzzles. A história tenta se comprovar com o nome das fases e nome dos capitulos, os pequenos dialogos que ocorrem durante o jogo porém, para mim, no fim não foi algo que pegou.

Geralmente dou o "positivo" para sempre ajudar os devs, porém imaginando alguem me perguntando um indie de "puzzle", ou "atmosferico", ou com pelomenos uma "lore" imersiva, provavelmente esse não seria um dos primeiros que viria na minha mente, uma pena, pois eu tinha altas espectativas quando finalmente decidi jogar.

Em promoções, você encontra esse jogo a 1.79, se tiver com o dinheiro sobrando na carteira, ou precisando inteirar para algo vale a pena, o jogo não é ruim, só realmente não seria algo que eu sairia recomendando, ou que aconselharia pagar o preço cheio atualmente.

An overly abstract walking simulator with a few puzzles and an unremarkable story about dealing with grief. The initial setup was intriguing and the settings were beautiful with rolling vistas and some atmosphere, but the lack of guidance, bare bones dialogue and bugs made for a slow and unrewarding experience. The puzzles are ok, building upon the mechanics you’ve learned in earlier worlds, but most felt like busy work and some were a bit buggy. The game is relatively short and the ending was underwhelming, but the achievements do add some replay value, although I found earning them was either trivially easy or a chore. Some other design choices like the unreadable credits and the idyllic post-credit scenes were just weird and detracted from any message they were trying to convey.

Juego de factura española a caballo entre los llamados “simuladores de caminar” y juego de puzles.

Un tornado está a punto de alcanzar la costa de la isla de Menorca donde residimos. Tras intentar ponernos a salvo y mientras buscamos a nuestra hija, Sofía, el tornado impacta con la casa donde nos encontramos. La historia comienza tras despertar en un mundo que nos resulta foráneo. La trama en sí no está mal, la forma de llevarla ya no me parece tan adecuada.

La mecánica de los puzles es simple pero interesante, basados principalmente en el concepto de “interruptor”, usando esferas o nuestro personaje, pero lo que altera es el entorno, con niebla, lluvia, alternando entre día y noche, etcétera. En general son simples excepto por un par que requerirán un poco de ensayo y error hasta dar con la tecla. Muchos de estos puzles están localizados en zonas amplias, delimitadas por muros invisibles y en muchas ocasiones bastante vacías; esta es una de las pegas del juego ya que a veces, si fallamos al resolver un puzle, habremos de darnos una caminata relativamente larga para volver a intentarlo. En la parte narrativa encontraremos unos puntos brillantes flotantes con los que interactuar y que activarán los pensamientos del protagonista.

Curiosamente, el juego permite activar la versión original del título, donde la narrativa se activa al avanzar y que además dispone de un “[i]jefe final[/i]”, omitido en la nueva.

Visualmente es una de cal y otra de arena. Muchos de los escenarios, en especial cielos y horizontes son espectaculares, parecen salidos de un cuadro impresionista. Por otro lado, algunas texturas y modelados dejan bastante que desear. Hay algo raro también con la iluminación, muchos de los interiores son demasiados oscuros, hasta el punto de apenas ver nada, cosa que no ocurre con el original. Sin embargo, el original tampoco sale tan bien parado con los rayos solares, en especial cuando hay niebla, hay que caminar mirando hacia el suelo porque de lo contrario deslumbra tanto que no se puede ver. El juego viene con voces en inglés y textos en español. Hay una única voz en el juego que deja algo que desear y los subtítulos no están bien implementados, con algunos que no están bien sincronizados, otros sin traducir o que no salen, y otros que sí van bien. Curiosamente, en el original funcionan correctamente. La banda sonora es correcta, con melodías tranquilas que le sientan bien, aunque durante el juego muchas veces no hay música, centrándose en los efectos sonoros donde sobresalen la lluvia y tormentas, de los mejores que he escuchado.

El juego tiene una duración de unas 3 horas. Una vez terminado el único aliciente para volver sería encontrar las zonas ocultas o desbloquear logros mediante la selección de nivel. Como extra, en dicha pantalla de selección hay un especial de Halloween.

Encontré un fallo que me obligó a reiniciar un nivel cuando una de las esferas cayó a través del escenario. Además, la nueva versión tiene algo raro en cuanto al traspaso a [i]Unreal Engine 4[/i] con algunos puzles que resolví de manera incorrecta al poder saltar a ciertos sitios, y de lo que me di cuenta después al jugar a la original donde no era posible hacer lo que hice.

El juego cuenta con unas mecánicas curiosas a la hora de resolver los puzles y una historia interesante pero mal contada. La razón por la que he mencionado la versión original en varias ocasiones es porque creo que [b]MIND: Path to Thalamus Enhanced Edition[/b] no merece mucho la pena pero que por otro lado, la versión original del título sí es más redonda y mejor diseñada, de hecho, es la responsable de que mi recomendación sea positiva y no negativa.

I struggled on whether to recommend this game.

Pros:
-The visuals are top-notch with a surreal aesthetic.
-I liked the level of puzzle difficulty. Your mileage may vary on that though.

Cons:
-The voice acting was VERY annoying. I resorted to playing with the sound off.
-Story was 'meh' at best. It can be ignored a lot easier than the voice acting though.

If you can tolerate the voice acting (or don't mind playing without sound), then there's a lot to like.

Игры - они как отношения. Даже если они оказались неудачными, это все равно какой-никакой опыт, который иногда приятно держать в памяти. Со временем эти воспоминания покроются плесенью ностальгии, что выветрит вонь итогового дерьмеца.
К сожалению, к игре под красивым названием "сознание: путь к таламусу" это не относится. Д@рьмо от нее не выветрится даже через сто лет, а ностальгия по ней будет бить разве только морального мазохиста.

Путь к таламусу плоха во всем.
Как симулятор ходьбы она не справляется: тут нет ни интересных видов, на которых можно позалипать, ни цепляющей подачи сюжета, ни интересных ответвлений от основной дороги. Мое мнение - для симухода это надгробная плита весом в тонну.
Как головоломка игра еще более убога: вместо интересных загадок - превращение игрока в курицу, которая должна постоянно нести яйца... ну ладно, нести шары из одной точки в другую. Шары, с@ка. Гребаные разноцветные шары. Шары вызывают ночь, туман, ремонт мостов... Они тут альфа и омега. Иногда шары бывают невидимыми и искать их приходится смотря на их отражение в воде. Иногда они валяются в е@енях, и пока ты их найдешь, проклянешь все вокруг. Иногда их нужно класть на уступы, чтобы потом пробежать через полкарты и поднять их с другой стороны, чтобы случайно уронить, ударив об угол уступ и повторить заново. Один раз нужно кинуть шар в еле заметную дырку, чтобы выхлоп от этой авантюры перебросил тебя на другую сторону расщелины. Иногда без пол-литры не понять, куда их вообще совать, а с пол-литрой мозг проясняется и играть дальше уже не хочется.
Даже сюжет игры ничем не блещет - какой-то мужик либо в коме, либо в пьяном угаре что-то бухтит про дочь, сестру, батю и бродит по просторам своего разума, носясь за детскими рисунками... я отключился через пару уровней, настолько сильно скука от происходящего воздействовала на мой, простите за каламбур, таламус. В итоге я сдался и просто пробежался по гайдам, быстренько добив достижения, после чего удалил ее к чертям собачьим. Черт, это практически единственная игра, которую я не смог добить, начав - а ведь я тот еще любитель говнянных игр. Это рекорд, тысяча чертей!
Ладно, что я только о плохом и о плохом. Справедливо будет отметить, что в этой игре мне понравилась музыка. Она довольно приятна и мелодична. [spoiler]Я соврал. Музыка тут тоже д@рьмо[/spoiler]

Итого: не советую. Увидите в своей библиотеке эту игру, шлите ее нахер. Лучше Эстер какую пройдите, или Принцип Талоса.

Mind : Path of Thalamus is a first person puzzler/walking sim. This review is for the non-VR version.
I'm not really into puzzle games, but I like the aesthetics showed in the video game preview and I also like walking sims.

Pros :
- Beautiful graphics
- Relaxing music.

Cons :
Text doesn't display properly Imaginereadingsomethinglikethat.
- Some of the puzzles are unclear and tricky.
- Motion sickness
- Voice acting could've been better.
- I was expecting more at the end.
- The music for the credit is good but doesn't really match the game spirit

[spoiler]Cons details : The part where you have to take a ball across a bridge making sure it doesn't fall in the water is a pain, and I wish it was skippable. Also if you throw yourself in the water before the ball arrives at the end of the bridge you have to do everything again. So basically if you don't want to try countless times you are stuck and can't continue the game. Which is a shame.

I got motion sickness in the Trauma chapter Hallowed Sands while trying to get the Path of thalamus Amsterdam achievement. So if you get sick as well just take a break.

Voice acting was good at first but the more you progress in the game more it feels like it's just someone reading a text.

I personally was expecting more for the end, somehow the end didn't feel like the end.[/spoiler]

I bought it on discount for £2.84 I do not recommend paying the full price for this game. Nevertheless I have enjoyed the beautiful graphics and relaxing music, as a discount priced game you should give it a try!

В конечном итоге игра оставляет положительные впечатления, но к сожалению у неё очень много шероховатостей. Визуальный стиль выполнен хорошо, игра действительно красивая и выдаёт интересные пейзажи, но графика не поражает воображение, она просто хорошая, хоть и не супер технологична. Головоломок не так много, и хотя есть места где нужно немного подумать, некоторые механики кажутся не интуитивными, но к этому можно привыкнуть. История не вызвала у меня каких то сильных эмоций, она просто есть, где то там с боку, что то пытается рассказать, но большого смысла за ней следить нет. Небольшая, местами красивенькая с интересными визуальными решениями, но игра местами довольно нетороплива и головоломки несколько простоваты, но интересно обернуты, и история слабовата. Если вы хотите немного подумать и посмотреть на необычные пейзажи, то игра в принципе не разочарует.

The major problem with walking sim puzzle games is that puzzles are really slow, tedious and often not interesting. A walking sim is by definition slow and that's fine, but adding puzzles based on just walking and carrying things is not fun. Even if the puzzles had been interesting, they probably would've been ruined by the gameplay anyway.

So yes, the mechanic of this game is to carry balls and put them in certain places to change the environment. Except for a very few puzzles, you don't have to think because there usually is just one thing to do. But you can still be stuck because you missed a ball, a hidden path or you're lost in the fog... and that's not things you want to see in a puzzle game.

The story is... there I guess. It's about a guy in a coma that lost his sister and his daughter. I understand this is a journey in his mind exploring his struggles but there's not much else to say. This is badly done and I didn't really care.

Took me a bit more than 2 hours to finish it, that's far too short.

At least the visuals are very nice but that's pretty much the only good aspect of this game.

В целом мне понравилась игра. В целом: только геймплей. Мне понравились загадки. Типаж один, но всё таки есть разнообразие по их решению.
Отдельно похвалю пейзажи. Здесь есть красивые фоны, что являются редкостью в подобных инди играх.

Ставлю только 2 минуса: фоновая музыка и сюжет.
Фоновая музыка. Ее толком и нет. Очень скучненько ходить в полной тишине. Нет даже звуков шагов.
Сюжет. Типо затёртая до дыр тема с виной гг, где он путешествует по своему подсознанию и пытается рассказать, что вот он "сделал так, а надо было не так, терь я плохой, но я хочу быть хорошим и тд". Игра вышла в 15 году, тогда эта тема еще не была такой затёртой, поэтому чутка пропустим мимо ушей этот момент. Но даже если смотреть в целом на сюжет, то он очень скучный. Повествование гг не цепляет. Оно просто идет на одной ноте, без эмоций. Не хватает чувств, переживания. Хотя какая чувства и какая переживалка, когда сама тема для вины ну очень такая себе.

Берите игру с целью порешать забавные загадки, а не с целью найти здесь смысл сюжета.

Ein seltsames Adventure mit krassen Umgebungen einige davon wirklich schön gemacht, manchmal etwas zuviel Nebel für meinen Geschmack und das Licht blendet stark gerade bei meiner sehr kräftigen Samsung Odyssey Plus mit O-LED Display.
Einige sehr tolle Ideen wie die Sphären von denen man abgestoßen wird und im weiten Flug bestimmte Orte treffen muss. Manche Kapitel lassen einen im Unklaren was man tun soll aber sehr positiv fand ich das ich ein Kapitel nicht unbedingt beenden musste sondern im Menü das Kapitel frei wählen kann. Bei mir funktionierten die Dell und Samsung WMR Controller aber nicht die der HP Reverb.

if you like this sort of thing... it was a gift, i was told it would be a relaxing game... i like horror and RTS mainly... DarkSouls# is all time fave.

This is not my kind of game at all - BUT - if this is your kind of thing, you will love it I assure you!

I've found it; engaging, tedious, confusing, more tense than it probably is, BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED (which is mainly why i liked playing and will finish it; the surreal landscapes are very nice - sky-boxes are lush)
game is what it says it is - in a coma...
Maybe this is why I found it so tense, its being trapped in this beautiful nightmare-dreamscape that made very little sense whilst being very cerebral.

The puzzles were difficult enough but there was something lacking that excited me... the story premise wasn't my thing either, but it was VoAc well enough/

If this looks like your thing, you'll love it.

Рекомендую с натяжкой. У игры два больших минуса много маленьких. Главный минус никто вам не рассказывает о механиках игры. Типа догадайся сам. Оно и понятно, если понять механики, задачки решаются на раз. Но это приводит к ситуациям где ты не понимаешь что от тебя хотят. Второй жирный минус - сюжет, Ненавижу философские депрессивные сюжеты, под завязку забитые самокопанием. С остальными недостатками игры можно смириться. Задачки несложные красивые сюрреалистические виды прилагаются.

MIND: Path to Thalamus is an average first-person puzzle game. It’s not bad, and some puzzles are well-design, but some are annoying and there’s a general lack of polish.
For example: the subtitles are tiny, some of them display incorrect text, and you can’t completely navigate the options menu with a controller. Small things like that, piling up.
Then some odd design choices, like having all chapters available from the very beginning, instead of unlocking gradually. There’s also Steam Cloud, but for some reason it only works with the original version of the game, not the Enhanced Edition. That’s not very “Enhanced” to me. You can access the original version in the Steam Betas.
The controls are simple, and that’s a plus. The story, graphics and music are ok. It’s not a long game, but there’re extra achievements to collect, although you’ll probably need a guide for those, including a secret ending. The game also supports VR, although I couldn’t test it.
I would give it a neutral score if I could because you can see some effort involved. It’s just an average game, that I can only recommend on sale if you enjoy the genre.

The above is a quote from the subject of this review [i]Mind: Path to Thalamus[/i]. This single line of text can be found plastered on a wall within one of the game's many hidden areas. It's difficult to tell whether this sentence is intended to be defiant towards those who actually hold such a belief, or in contempt of itself. Regardless, if Mind: Path to Thalamus were the metric to prove that video games can be art, it wouldn't be particularly up the the task, as here the two seem to have a tumultuous coexistence.

[b]A R T[/b]
Art is expression. Art is composition. Art is subjective, vibrant and paradigm-shifting.

Video games are, in numerous ways by extension, art, and Mind: Path to Thalamus is - inarguably at stages - visually stunning. The surrealist settings create impossible, infinite horizons for the player to explore as far as the eye can see*. You wander from place to place, solving the mysteries of the place along the way**. The story unravels, full of heavy themes such as regret and remorse. The sound design and music are beautifully crafted. There's a lot of things to appreciate about this game from an artistic perspective.

The problem which Mind: Path to Thalamus deals with is of identity. It could have settled for being an artsy indie game, but the developer has a tendency to throw deflections into the mix, as if arguing with some unseen force that their game isn't pretentious, and that it's all just a bit of a joke. The Steam achievements illustrate this best, with references to internet and pop culture scattered throughout. A little quirkiness is usually perfectly reasonable, but such decisions oppose the game's generally serious tone and feel rather out of place.

Games are also expression, vibrancy, and composition, but games are also carried by gameplay. [url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/520720/Dear_Esther_Landmark_Edition/]Dear Esther[/url] was a game that fell rather flat for me, as I found the visuals to be not quite striking enough to make up for a lack of compelling gameplay. The gameplay of a game can tip the balance from good to bad, and vice versa.

Mind: Path to Thalamus is equal parts interactive art piece and puzzle game, but its puzzle elements only serve to detract from the overall experience. To counterpoint the previous section on art:

*The player can only explore as far as invisible walls will let them. Moreover, some physics objects have a tendency to clip into invisible walls, making them inaccessible, and the puzzles associated with them impossible.

**The puzzles are pretty obtuse to the point of being frustrating, or simple to the point of being redundant. Either way, they mostly have you just wishing they weren't there.

[b]Is Mind: Path to Thalamus art or a game?[/b]
Well, it's both, but that doesn't mean it needs to be excelling on all fronts at either. There are some points where the game looks beautiful, others where its art direction is nothing special. There are some puzzles that are okay, and others that just feel half-baked. It's regrettably not all that it could be, despite having merit in some areas.

It's so surreal it feels like the rules keep changing from puzzle to puzzle and within a given puzzle. It went from boring to frustrating in a hurry. Lack of a run option to get back to the start of puzzles really killed my desire to keep going until I figured out what combination of jumps and invisible walkways I had to traverse. The story isn't engaging enough to make me want to hear more. I don't know who Sofia is and I find it impossible to care.

This might be the most borinng walkinng simulator I have ever played. Puzzles are uninspired and boring. I had more fgunn the last time I wennt to see my dentist. I felt like they stole the time I spent playing it. Do not play this game unless you are payed handsomely to do so.

I'll start by saying this game is not for everyone. After playing portal, I started trying out puzzle games similar to it and this game was around the alley. It can be unfairly labeled as "walking simulator" as many puzzle-exploration games but there is something beautiful in the level design, puzzles, sounds and anatomically relevant structures (neurons, nerve endings, nerve pathways). I enjoyed my time with it and the puzzles were definitively interesting.

Ce jeu m'a transcendé ! comme vous le savez, je suis une fan de la simulation de marche, j'adore me balader dans des paysages, me vider l'esprit et faire fonctionné mon imaginaire, me mettre à la place du personnage principale et m'imaginer un scénario - je ne sais pas ou je me trouve, j'avance dans le jeu avec la peur de l'inconnu, la peur qu'il m'arrive quelque chose (mais il n'y a pas de méchant ouf) tout en sachant que je suis en sécurité chez moi- j'adore ces ambiances de jeu solo.

L'histoire est touchante, triste, les quelques phases de plateforme sont assez pénibles mais on y arrive avec de la patience si si je vous assure! je le recommande pour les fan d'atmosphère, mystère, simulation de marche, pas de méchant, pas de chrono

Once I got past the confusion of what to do in a world/experience that was not about reality, but about the psychological state of a man with a troubled life, I was prepared to just ride along and figure out what I needed to do as the narrative progressed. I have only played the first chapter, but look forward to working my way through the whole game.

I was thrilled that I could even play the game in VR. I bought it to play in VR and was disappointed that the game would not launch in VR. Apparently VR is not supported for the Linux version of the game, even though the store description suggests that it is VR supported. I forced that Proton Experimental be used and that caused the Window's version to be downloaded. Then I was able to play the game in VR.

So now I look forward to hearing the whole narrative and figuring out what I need to do to progress. Just from the intro and the first chapter, I am enthralled. I am usually not that excited about narrative games, but this one definitely is pulling me in.

After finishing this game, I'm a bit torn between giving this game a thumbs up or down. In the end, I have to say there were several aspects of the game that I did enjoy and they did outweigh the negatives.

The positives:
* Most of the visuals are fantastic, creative and/or dreamlike. I really enjoyed being immersed in that beauty.
* Wide screen / 4k support. The game filled my 3840x1600 monitor flawlessly.
* Some of the puzzles were really good. I especially enjoyed the last world / level.
* You don't need to understand the narration or story (see below) to solve puzzles and make progress
* Did not encounter any bugs when playing in non-VR mode.

The negatives:
* Somewhat annoying narration.
* Story (based on narration) did not make sense to me, but that could be because I tuned out the narration.
* Some of the puzzles have an unclear objective, which when combined with expansive levels you need traverse, and slow walking speed, caused some annoyance and frustration.
* Some puzzles are either too simple or just mediocre - with much more trial/error than logic
* VR support (HP Reverb G2) was very poor:
- Could not get sound to work.
- Some puzzles are just broken using VR teleport transportation, which seems the only transportation mode supported in VR. To be specific, one puzzle mechanic in this game involves turning on (or finding) "bridges" then walking across that bridge to progress. However, in VR there is only teleportation (as par as I can tell) and you can essentially teleport across the gap the bridge would have spanned, without knowing you had to do something special to find or turn on the bridge. This isn't even cheating, because you never even get an indication of what you are supposed to be doing, and as you get to more difficult versions of those puzzles (where the teleport distance is not long enough to cover the gap) you are clueless that there's this whole "find/turn on the bridge" game mechanic.
Once I switched to non-VR mode, the movement (and bridge puzzles) made a lot more sense

Good puzzler with creative visuals and a very nice soundtrack. Take your time with this one and don't look up solutions. The game is "fair" in that you'll figure the puzzles out sooner or later by experimenting and being observant.

You cannot "die" but you'll reset to a spawn position, if you fall from too great a height. The "parkour" aspect is normally not challenging but there were a couple of spots where I lost a lot of time trying to manoeuvre to a destination without losing the object in hand. Another small minus is that you cannot "sprint". The speed is fine normally (the game overall has a contemplative mood), but if you have to repeat actions because something went slightly wrong, it can be agonising to not have the ability to quickly cover some distance. The game is on the short side but if you fancy it, you can put more time into it by attempting to get all achievements.

If you like this type of game, you'll probably like "XING: The Land Beyond" (which features a very similar weather mechanics) and "The Talos Principle" (which is also about puzzles but with a much richer set of objects). I found both these games better than "MIND: Path to Thalamus" but the latter is a decent puzzler as well.

Не покупайте, кроме красивых видов здесь нет абсолютно ничего. Особенно выбесили механики этих сраных шаров которые сдуваются когда подходишь к определенным точкам и потом надо быстро бежать чтобы шар тебя подбросил куда нибудь.
