i absolutely love this game. very atmospheric but also very simple. it wears its inspirations well while telling its own story. the tie-ins with the other titles by this dev are really fun to find.
It's a clunky Souls-like, with great atmosphere (dark, brooding environments, eerie NPCs), minimalist cel-shaded graphics, and it's mostly focused on exploration with minimal hand-holding. My biggest problem with the game's the combat, as it tries to be deliberate and methodical, but it just feels stiff and unpolished. Some of the fights are quite difficult as well, and combined with unresponsive controls, can make the game feel really frustrating at times. The save system's also a bit scuffed, the save points aren't generous, and there were moments when I had to replay big chunks of the game than I wanted to. Also, you kinda can get lost as the levels are samey and tend to blend into one another, and as a result, can make the game feel monotonous.
It feels like somebody's first game project, and most likely it's just that. Also, I'm aware not everybody's gonna put up with its shortcomings, but I've had some fun with Malebolgia.

The final achievement is bugged. I beat this weird game twice for nothing.

"Malebolgia" ist ein Third-Person Kampf- und Erkundungs-Spiel.
An den Ufern des Eissees Cocytus, in den dunklen Schatten der Hölle, steht Malebolgia, der Palast des Teufels. Wir spielen als alternder und erschöpfter Leopold, der sich durch den Palast kämpfen muß. Ghule, Dämonen und Monster stellen sich uns in den Weg. Auf unserem Weg entdecken wir aber auch bekannte Gesichter, die uns nach und nach enthüllen, weshalb wir in diesem Höllenkreis gefangen sind.
Die von Dante Alighieris Werken genommenen Inspirationen in diesem Spiel sind offenkundig. Aber von wem sollte man sich auch zu einem solches Spiel inspirieren lassen, wenn nicht vom italienischen Dichter-Genie aus dem frühen 14.Jahrhundert. Die Atmosphäre ist, nicht zuletzt dadurch, dicht und mystisch treffend.
Wir bewegen uns von Raum zu Raum und hoffen etwas Nützliches oder ein bekanntes Gesicht anzutreffen, finden aber doch meist einen oft großen und schwer zu besiegenden Gegner. In diesem Bezug erinnert das Spiel an Titel wie "Dark Souls". Schnell kann man sterben.
Dummerweise ist bei aller situativen Dichte das Gameplay nur bedingt überzeugend. Denn Steuerung und Kampf wirken schwammig und ungenau. Zudem fehlt ein gutes Trefferfeedback. Oft ist man sich gar nicht mal so sicher, ob man einen Gegner gerade trifft oder nicht.
Letzteres ist allerdings auch durch die blockig wirkende Cell-Shading-Grafik verursacht, die auch wieder interessant, gut gestaltet und passend wirkt, aber sich zum Spielen nicht gerade als die Ideallösung erweist. Die Musik hingegen kann ohne Abzüge überzeugen.
Auch problematisch wird im Verlauf des Spieles, daß der Palast relativ unübersichtlich wird und wir auch gerne mal die Orientierung verlieren können. Die oftmals dunklen Gänge, durch die wir mit unserer schwach scheinenden Fackel laufen, tragen auch nicht wirklich zur Orientierung bei, auch wenn sie stimmungsvoll sind.
Und so läßt sich denn feststellen: "Malebolgia" ist interessant und atmosphärisch, es ist aber zu oft im Gameplay zu kryptisch und ungenau.

For a game focused around combat, it is exceptionally bad. I tried to get into this because I like the art style, but the combat is atrocious.
It's Dark Souls but if you had a fever dream.
Loved the sound track and simple, dark design of the game. A short experience, which didn't over stay it's welcome. The controls are simple and combat is a little stiff. Great indie game!
I bought this as it seemed very interesting, pertained to what I like and appreciate, and similar to other games I play. Characters and lore looked and seemed very interesting and I wanted to explore this world. I read it had a Dark Souls-vibe, which meant I'd die. A lot. No problem.
Looks and actually game-play are far different. While the art style of the game is minimalist with characters and architecture being simplified polygons, I at least assumed the game-play would be more of the late 2000's RPG game or battles would include more intricacies. Nope.
It seems there's a very slow delay when trying to parry or attack. You feel the weight of the weapon your character welding to be like Thor's hammer and not a knight's sword. Actions seemed perfectly timed to collide with each other as there is one speed and one speed only: Slow. When I would try to parry an attack, it barely or didn't make it in time, only to unblock and try to hit when the other character was already preparing for another hit. It felt like I old Nintendo controls,

[h1]Excellent Game with a Few Issues[/h1]
Malebolgia is overall an excellent action adventure. It has a spooky atmosphere with gameplay and style that reminded me of both Dark Souls and the original Alone in the Dark. My review will cover the similarities to Dark Souls, as well as pros and cons.
Similarities to Dark Souls:
Unfortunately, too many games are compared to Dark Souls these days. While Dark Souls has left a lasting legacy on game design, the tag "Souls-Like" does get thrown around a little too often. Malebolgia does its own thing, and is different enough from Dark Souls too not be a copycat, but the inspiration is easy too see.
Similarities in Narrative Structure, Story Progression, and Lore:
Like Dark Souls, Malebolgia's story is not fully explained. You are thrust into the world, and you have to figure out what you need to do. The NPC's dialogue within the game further the mysteriousness and intrigue. They offer more insight into the lore of the story, but they never truly explain what is going on. Some NPCs drop hints about how you need to progress, but you are never told what you need to do to get from Point A to Point B. Unlike Dark Souls, there are not items and item descriptions to further the lore.
Combat:
On the surface, Malebolgia seems more similar in combat style to Dark Souls than it really is. You have a normal attack, a strong attack, a dodging mechanic, and a parry. This is where the similarities end. Dark Souls combat is much more in-depth, with multiple ways too build characters and conduct combat. You have multiple weapons with different move sets, you have magic, and you can also use shields and armor.
In Malebolgia, you are armed with only a torch and a halberd. Nothing else. You cannot block, but you can parry. The parry is much more forgiving than in DS. The dodge mechanic is different as well. You dash to the side, instead of roll, and due to a lot of fighting taking place in cramped areas, most of the time it has limited use. You also cannot level up in Malebolgia, and you do not have stats, other than an off screen calculation of your vigor and strength. These two stats can be upgraded several times through periodically fighting an enemy known as The Beast.
Bosses and Enemies:
Like Dark Souls, Malebolgia has a strong emphasis on boss battles. While some of the enemies are tough, once you figure out the combat system, it is pretty easy to defeat almost anything the game can throw at you. Unfortunately, there is a boss battle that is meant to be a strong nod to Dark Souls, but almost feels like plagiarism instead. One of the early boss fights from the first Dark Souls game is almost copied in its entirety in Malebolgia: the location has the same name, the boss battle cutscene is similar, the movesets are somewhat similar, and the "surprise" about midway through the boss fight is the exact same. For someone who has beat the first Dark Souls four times, this boss fight was disappointing in its lack of originality.
Review of Malebolgia:
Pros:
1) Atmosphere - The games just oozes atmosphere. There is great use of jump scares, Renaissance-style art, decor, and snow and lightning in some areas. For a minimalist horror game, it does atmosphere better than many AAA games.
2) Combat - The combat is a little clunky at first, and it will take several battles to really get a feel for it. Once you do though, it is a lot of fun. It is minimal, but it is entertaining.
3) Huge Castle - The game is not a massive open world game by any means, but the castle that Malebolgia takes place in is huge, with many levels. It has a similar feel to the Derceto Manor in the 1992 Alone in the Dark, but it is bigger and better.
4) Bosses - The bosses aren't overally difficult. You should beat them all in 1 to 3 tries if you are experienced with these types of games, but they are fun. Some of the boss designs will stick with you.
5) Sound and Design - The sound is minimal, but is great. The sound of your footfalls, doors opening and closing, the little bits of music, and the sound of fire is great. It's crisp, and it's not too much, or too little. Overall, the game is very well-designed. I enjoyed some of the extra little touches that the developer added. For example, the more injured you are, the smaller the flame on your torch becomes. This is not only an additional visual aid for your health, but it ups the tension because it means your surroundings are even more dark.
6) Story - The story is excellent, and like Dark Souls, there is a lot left up to interpretation. The ending of this game is a perfect example of that. I also loved the constant nods to Dante's Inferno. After I defeated the last boss and viewed the final cutscene, I reloaded my save so I could experience it again. The ending of the game sticks with you. I haven't pondered an ending like this since Planescape Torment.
7) Potential Speedrunner - This game has a lot of speed-running potential, but unfortunately, it is not popular enough for it to gain any traction in speed-running communities.
Cons:
1) Messy Navigation and Map - It is easy too get lost in this game. Even though the castle is huge, it is not so huge that you will be hopelessly lost. Yet, it can be painful to navigate, and when you get lost, it does take away from the game's excellent atmosphere. The map, while not entirely useless, can add more confusion, and it does take a while to get used too.
2) Game-length - The game is very short for the price. It took me longer to beat than normal, due to how much time I spent getting lost in the castle. I could probably beat the game in under two hours on a fresh play-through. The game is a lot of fun while it lasts.
3) Achievements - I got 100%, yet I still have no idea how these work, or how I unlocked each one.
Overall:
I score this game an 8 out of 10. It is impressive that this game was made by one person. I would love to see what this developer could do with a huge budget and team working with him. I hope he continues to make video games. The game is short, it can be clunky and hard to navigate at times, but it is a lot of fun with an excellent atmosphere. It doesn't have replayability in the sense of hard to find bonus achievements and hidden paths, but this is a game that I can see my self revisiting annually to play around Halloween.
A retro computer gaming take on the Dark Souls formula. Where it lacks in complexity it excels in atmosphere. Challenging enough to keep things interesting, but never too hard or frustrating. As a fan of using torches to explore dark places in video games, this one is a definite winner, and it's runs on my $200 potato laptop!

If you like soulslike games and are familiar with the aesthetic of older games like Alone in the Dark (1992 PC) or Ecstatica (1994 PC) This game may resonate with you. The game is slow paced and the combat is very deliberate for me it's worth the nostalgia hit. The graphic and art style suit the game. It's biggest flaw for me is the lack of full controller support.
Malebolgia is a moody and slow-paced action adventure. And yes, it's like Dark Souls, as cliche as that line has become. You explore a grand palace killing demons and figuring out your situation and how to escape. You only have one weapon, a halberd, and a few moves like a combo strike, a block and a dodge. You also have a torch that acts as a lifebar and a second tool and sort of weapon. There's some enemy variety, a good amount of bosses - overall a serviceable, if simple, combat scheme.
The strongest part of Malebolgia is the oozing atmosphere of loneliness and dread. The palace's halls are tall and foreboding, there's a blizzard outside, the demons are chanting echoes, the muted colours make everything seem distant and unknowable. It's good stuff. The bosses have amped up orchestral music, but otherwise it's just you and a simple but effective ambient track. And whichever demon slowly tries to hunt you down.
You could feel a little bit annoyed by the final chapter where it's not exactly clear where to go immediately. There's sort of an implication you need to do one tedious set of tasks, but you don't actually need to do that at all. Vague because of spoilers, I know, but it just stuck out to me as not being clear enough. Although you could say that's part of the charm.
The game can be beaten in around 4-5 hours. It's very stylish and shows a clear vision. Try it out.

This is a low poly untextured action/adventure game trying very hard to rip off a Dark Souls vibe by including really clunky, unenjoyable "parry or die" combat that made Dark Souls popular and spawned hundreds of terrible copycat games, encouraging developers to make their game stupidly difficult because that might work for them too (but it won't).
So, badly optimised for a Unity game, we have no textures, low poly assets, terrible gameplay, fixed controls. Where's the fun? There isn't any. $17 though... ouch. You can get Dark Souls for less than that, and that's an actual game that people want to play.

Eres Leopold y te encuentras encerrado en Malebolgia, un castillo que encierra los horrores del mismísimo infierno, donde te ves obligado a luchar para conseguir tu libertad. ¿Acaso es posible lograrla? Nadie piensa que así sea. La historia es algo intrigante pero a la vez escueta y no se narra de la mejor forma. Aún así me sorprendió para lo que esperaba del juego. 7/10
* Calidad Gráfica. Con solo ver las imágenes de la tienda ya te haces a la idea de que gráficamente no es de lo mejor. Los escenarios son quizás más oscuros de lo necesario y la animación es bastante pobre. Sin embargo, estamos hablando de un juego indie creado para entretenerte un día o dos, mejorable pero pasable. Puede que a primera vista el juego no parezca muy prometedor pero si le das una oportunidad puedes llevarte una grata sorpresa.

I went into this game hoping for, at least a decent "Souls" like experience, both in combat and atmosphere. Malebolgia was at least partially what I was looking for. But, that part was better than I expected. The combat is much more akin to King's Field than a "Souls" game. Slow and deliberate but clumsy. Much like the King's Field games, you need to plan your attacks way in advance. Hit and run often works well. The combat isn't why you want to play this game though. It's the atmosphere and story that this game has in spades. Like the "Souls" games, there is a mystery and suspense that kept me going. Always wanting to see what is around the next corner. The oppressive dark tone kept me on edge and is a big part of why I enjoyed this game so much. The simple 3D polygon environments and creatures just add to the overall feel. I would like to see this developer make something similar but with a better combat system.
If you are looking for a "Souls" clone in play and tone, this is probably not the game for you. However, are willing to ignore the combat system and just want to experience a compelling "Souls" like horror/adventure I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

The idea from this game seems good, but the execution is full of flaws, it seems like developers barely finished the game and uploaded to steam. Some advice, make the gameplay more fluid and fast, as a gamer i don't consider waiting for my character to move from one place to another as a substitute for difficulty, the attacking controls are veeery weird, and as an important part of the game you should improve it, make it more dynamic. In conclusion, try harder. I think you have some good elements in your game, so keep on the good work and improve whats wrong.
Malebolgia has a fantastic look and tone that carried the experience for me. Running around this castle with your torch casting super sharp shadows was wonderful; the game is incredibly clean even running on a low-powered handheld PC.
While that was great and I found the combat serviceable, the biggest complaint I have is some of the map design. There are hints of something great with the game signposting future areas (courtyard, demon door on another stairwell) and having impressive one-off room design, but there’s a lot of running through areas that look too similar and don’t give a great sense of place. There is a decent map to alleviate that but it still makes traversal a bit tedious in-between bigger areas.
There’s a bit of environmental progression in that the world that I really liked though. The map can change as you progress through chapters of the game; sometimes doors will be blocked off, forcing you to take another path, or the environment will change (red sky, thunderstorm). I would have love to see moment like this take a bigger emphasis (final run through the castle being much more...lit) but as-is it was appreciated.
It’s not super long at ~6 hours so if you’re interested I recommend you give it a try!
Ohhh no no no no, I only had to play for the first 5 minutes to understand this is garbage. They even changed the controls from the Soulsborne standard. Why? Are they trying to stand out pointlessly or have they not played the defining titles of the genre? Either way, the animations and gameplay of the combat itself is as rudimentary as you could possibly have in a 3D application. It's like I paid for someone's Vidya Game College project.
Is this game polished? No. It doesn't have that high production value people expect from a soul's like game.
That being said, it's something different. Dark, atmospheric, and it's clear that the dev had passion for this. If you enjoy a simple third person action game, then give it a spin.

Apesar do nome interessante o jogo tem comandos truncados e dificies. As batalhas não tem peso e apesar de o personagem poder se esquivar e defender, praticamente todas podem ser vencidas apenas atacando sem pensar. O jogo é escuro e o mapa é muito confuso. A história parece ser interessante mas, não foi o suficiente para me segurar pois o jogo é entediante.
For a 1 dollar game (on sale) I can say i prefered this over buying a soda can.

Бесконечные узкие коридоры, в которых толком нельзя развернуться, сплетающиеся в огромный лабиринт, в котором крайне сложно ориентироваться, т.к. большинство этих коридоров выглядит совершенно одинаково. Бесполезная карта. Просто ужасная, примитивнейшая боевка, окончательно убивающая желание играть. Одно оружие, один удар, кривой блок, кривое уклонение, которое толком не работает в узких коридорах - вот и все. Точки сохранения, расположенные чeрт знает где. Случайно помрешь, застряв между противником и стеной - будь добр, возвращайся на 30 минут назад. Сохранений где угодно нет. Автосейвов нет. Спринта, чтобы быстрее добежать куда надо - тоже нет. Целеуказания, чтобы было проще вернуться на место смерти - нет. Я бы хотел побольше узнать о здешнем мире и выяснить, чем закончится история, но играть в "Малеболгию" решительно невозможно.

I got stuck in the second area. Tried interacting with every hotspot, the candle, and doors but could not progress.
Could live with the technically limited visual engine but the navigation is confusing and the combat I experienced in the tutorial was disappointing. Obeys standard conventions for dodging, counter attack, locking on target but it the AI felt deficient and the combat animations did not have a nice flow to them. I have not played a lot of titles in this genre but I am fairly certain this is a little underpar. Going to remove for declutter since I already have the Dark Souls series that I have not played yet

Malebolgia habla de horror personal en un marco de terror gótico. Despiecemos un poco esto. Despertamos en un castillo extraño, invadido por demonios y habitado por algunos aliados tuyos, los cuales son, en principio, ajenos a lo que está pasando; además hay algo que nos impide salir, y todo está sumido en una profunda ansiedad y melancolía. Ya sabemos que Leopold está siendo juzgado por los pecados que cometió en el pasado. Lo más fácil sería pensar que esta sentencia dicte que todo demonio que haya en el castillo querrá acabar con él. Sin embargo, no son pocos los demonios que hablan contigo, y te proponen guiarte hacia un trato con alguien de mayor rango. La mayoría de enemigos reaccionan de forma agresiva porque son parte de nuestros recuerdos, que vuelven para castigarnos. Otros, sin embargo, son pecadores que, atormentados, buscan el consuelo atacándonos, demostrando un comportamiento no muy distinto al nuestro.
También tendremos a compañeros nuestros esperándonos. Éstos, pese a reconocernos como aliados, mostrarán un rostro totalmente descarnado, aceptando lo que ha ocurrido, y deseando que su señor se una a ellos. En cuanto a vida pasada se refiere, no serán los únicos testigos. Obras de El Bosco, Goya o Holbein vestirán las paredes del castillo. Su estilo más fiel a los cuadros reales, destacará con los colores planos y los diseños poligonales del castillo y de los personajes, insinuándonos su propia versión de nuestra historia. Porque si de algo puede presumir Malebolgia, es de callar más que hablar.

Dava l'impressione di essere un souls-like interessante e dai tratti horror-ansiogeni.
Bellissima l'atmosfera e la musica ambientale/malinconica/inquietante, ma pessima la gestione della telecamera e la mancata possibilità di poter modificare le opzioni in base alla propria sensibilità visiva. Inoltre il combat system è estremamente statico.

Ispirato (almeno a mio avviso) ai Souls, Malebolgia non è un cattivo gioco, ma è minato da comandi abbastanza scomodi e da una ambientazione carina ma che poteva essere sfruttata meglio (si ha la sensazione di andare in giro a caso).

No he necesitado ni 10 minutos para comprobar que su jugabilidad es MALA, tosca, y limitada, mira que esos gráficos retro me atraían, y la premisa de ser un clon de Dark Souls más light de contenido, pero no hay por donde cogerlo.
Por mi parte ya he pedido la devolución, y eso que solo me ha costado 2,49€, y paso de tener porquerias en mi biblioteca ya...
Si quereis un buen clon de Dark Souls con unos gráficos similares a los de este titulo, teneis el fabuloso y entretenidisimo

Pretty simple yet very enjoyable horror/souls like game, around 6 hours to finish it.
Loved the dark creepy ambiance, liked the clunky yet entertaining souls like gameplay combat style, the bosses difficulty was good, the player must learn how to play properly in order to proceed through the bosses and the simple yet confusing story with plot twists almost every chapter.
Disliked some other aspects of the game, graphics and animations deserved some extra polishing, gameplay could reeeeeally use some RPG aspects, because most of the time i was just running away from monsters since there was no reason/reward for me to kill them since they would just respawn as soon as i die or proceed on the story. The hunt for the beast to get some more HP was very meh, making the player explore the whole castle every time to hunt the beast is very annoying.

I'm still a little lost on Malebolgia.
Did I enjoy it? Did I not? I'm still not sure.
I went in expecting a very mediocre, deriviative clone of Dark Souls. Actively what I wanted from it. And it managed to be more than that. But also managed to scuttle that with some very poor design decisions. Isn't that odd?
Malebolgia is a purposefully slow action game set in one self-enclosed level, that gradually opens up, then warps itself through later story sections. You follow one character, with one weapon, with no character levels or armour or any of that jazz. This isn't a bad thing and the story emphasis proves to the be the main driving motivation for this game.

The story, a fairly simple tale of guilt and redemption that never really gets around to either, follows the backstory of your character Leopold. It has a bunch of dressed up nonsense strapped to it, involving latin aesthetics and NPCs who speak in riddles, but also some meaningful dialogue from other NPCs who reveal their backstory, their biases or even casually chat as they reminisce about innocuous activities.
This emphasis on a single character really pays off, and proves to be a fairly engrossing tale with some decent climactic moments.
All the side characters are distinct and individual and fulfil a specific role, all within the Palace Malebolgia itself. Malebolgia manages to have some interesting uses of environments that conveys a sense of a cohesive whole.
But this is where the problems start.

It's way too dark. Waaaay too dark. "Early access indie greenlit first-person horror game on Steam" dark. Your torch illuminates a nice little 3-inch circle under your feet and otherwise you're pretty much left to your own devices.
This doesn't do anything, you see enemies from a billion miles away anyway since they've all got glowing eyes. You know what it does? Hurts my eyes, for one. Squander the game's potential by making most Malebolgia locales proper look completely indistinct for another - in that they're all black because you can't see anyway. Even with the brightness jacked to full, it was like wearing a gimp mask.
Just use the map to navigate? The map is worthless. It shows one area at a time and navigating it is a shot in the dark, which is fitting. For some reason the arrow that shows you which direction you're facing is itty bitty and blends into the player marker, another fantastic design decision. But the map sucks, might be the worst map I've seen since Shadowman.
Maybe it's good that the game is so dark, because the animations are horrible and ugly. The game's artstyle, sure, you know what you're getting into, and honestly the models don't even look that bad. But the actual animation - from limpwristed, undercommunicated telegraphs to Leopold's penguin waddle walk cycle just sucks. It's awful, robotic, and still manages to be weak.

But here's the real clincher, here's what really ties it all together into a package that I'm fairly sure I'll never return to and I can't bring myself to recommend:
It's a good 15-25% slower than it should be. From the gameplay to plain walking, just getting from A to B takes longer than it should. In a pitch black game, with a worthless map, that consists of mostly finding your way from A to B and that's not even adding in that for all the game's talk of parrying and dodging the combat quickly devolves into just baiting attacks and spamming heavy attack.
There's no tactics here. No thoughtful strategizing or emphasis on character builds. It just wastes your time.
So honestly, no, it wasn't that fun. Malebolgia has its moments, and it had its chance, but it let it slip with some core design decisions that just reduce that brilliant story, presentation, and level cohesion into something that's just kind of a chore and eyesore to play.

The selection of enemies and their AI capabilities are quite limited pretty much all of them can be beat with just dodge and overhead attacks same counts on the bosses too.
Story was good i was not impressed but also not dissapointed.
No inventory , no consumables pretty much nothing you can use from a downed enemy or boss except the armor buff that some corpses can give you.
The starting weapon is the ONLY WEAPON you will use in the whole game !!!
With all these it is really hard for me to find something innovative or exceptional from the game!!!
Maybe the only thing that made me buy the game was the atmosphere, the art style and the promise that it is a dark souls clone!!!

Overall I rather enjoyed this game. It has an interesting art style and I feel a lot of time and love went into the story. the combat mechanics are admittedly a little wonky but otherwise good. I would defintely give this game a play if you haven't yet.
Alors, tout le monde le dit, tous l'ont vu ou du moins ceux qui ont joués ou consultés les critiques : C'est un clone de Dark Souls.
Cependant, Malebolgia a peut-être marché sur les traces d'une oeuvre d'art, il n'en est pas pourtant un copycat et le démontre à différents niveaux. Je ne vais pas le nier, après 2h de jeu je me suis imaginé qu'il s'agissait là de ce qu'aurait pu être Dark Souls sur Nintendo 64, enfin une N64 boostée mais vous pouvez comprendre l'idée.
Est-ce que le jeu est beau ? Pour son style de château victorien, il l'est même si comme dans un château les pièces se répètent et que les développeurs ont insistés sur le thème d'une épopée des enfers ou autres actes religieux comme en témoignent les tableaux qui sont souvent répétés et après la tour de l'horloge, je me suis perdu plus d'une fois à cause du tableau de la tour de Babel et seuls de bien polites créatures des enfers m'ont offert de me renvoyer à l'horloge après m'avoir surprit. Malgré des répétitions, le jeu est beau, comme la musique d'ailleurs.
Le problème de ce jeu ? Vous souvenez-vous de ma remarque sur la nintendo 64 ? Exactement les mêmes problèmes : La caméra est infernale et demande à être gérée manuellement si vous ne voulez pas frapper votre clavier en demandant, suite à une exclamation injurieuse d'où vient cette boule de feu, lance ou épée qui vous a tué. Le systhème de combat ? Castelvania 64 + Star Wars. On frappe; coups rapides ou coup fort, on pare sans que l'ennemi ait une animation de débousellement ou on donne des coups de torche. Et Star Wars dans tout ça ? Notre personnage est un vieu soldat qui s'est marié dans la royauté mais je le soupçonne d'utiliser la force pour glisser ainsi sur le parquet avec de simple bons.
Et pourquoi Dark Souls ? Les ennemis vous font en majorité aussi mal que vous leur faîtes bobos. Il vous faudra de la patience, du courage et surtout
Savoir hurler "P*TAIN DE M*RDE!" avec finesse et doigté.
Est-ce que ce jeu vaux le coup ? Oui, si "I wanna be the guy" vous déprimes, Malebolgia est une alternative amusante et assez plaisante. Et puis après Dark Souls, nous somme tous un peu masochiste au fond alors pourquoi pas du foreplay ?
The only reason I'm not requesting a refund is the game wasn't even 2 bucks... but it's just bad.
The art style is cool but the game feels like a beta version of Demon Souls which, after playing Dark Souls and beyond, felt like a beta for the Dark Souls series.
All the game really needs to be better is more refined combat - but for a game that is entirely centered around combat, I can't recommend it.
One super annoying detail is that the tutorials that try to encompass multiple game controllers by telling you "Press "XXX" or "YYY" to block/attack/roll/etc." while you are IN COMBAT. It's impossible to read, comprehend, and accomplish what they are trying to tell you (plus neither of the two buttons worked in some cases and I'm just using a PS3 controller).
I really wanted to like this game. I consume Souls-like games like water and oxygen, but awful controls, bland and repetitive dugeon design, and total lack of direction even for a souls game make this impossible for me to enjoy. I played through a few hours of it with my friend on his steam, and the game never really got into a rhythm I enjoyed. I felt like I was just fighting with the game every step of the way.

Malebolgia нетороплива и меланхолична, колоссальные пустые пространства давят на психику, а неестественное самообладание героев, окруженных жуткими тварями, почти пугает. Хотя чего уж там, большая часть этих героев - и есть жуткие твари. Каждая глава - как еще один слой кошмара, как новый круг ада, через который необходимо пройти.
Если бы только не управление...

Все было так хорошо. История вполне может заинтриговать, мир не лишен определенного шарма, дизайн и работа с освещением компенсируют скромность графического исполнения. Но играть в это невозможно; ад для героя должен стать адом и для игрока, да?
Камера постоянно вырывается из-под контроля, застревает в стенах и колоннах, прячется куда-то в подмышку врагу. Оружие каждый раз приходится доставать вручную, причем заранее этого сделать нельзя, приходится триггерить бой и только потом суетливо вынимать алебарду из карманного измерения. Кнопка блока срабатывает три раза из четырех, и даже единую клавишу действия утвердить не смогли. Деревянная боевка с деревянными анимациями, невразумительный лок-он и крохотные комнатки-арены - ультимативное комбо, призванное сделать ваш опыт незабываемым.
И если вы пали в неравном бою с камерой, добро пожаловать назад за двадцать комнат. Только ручные сохранения, только хардкор.

Полигоны - не беда. Иногда попадаются красиво поставленные картинки, бесспорно, вроде одиноко играющей на пианино девушки или вида на заснеженный двор, да и игра теней хороша. И левел-дизайн можно пережить: меньше умирайте, чаще консультируйтесь с картой, и не придется блуждать в лабиринте комнат и шорткатов. Шрифты - опять же, несмертельно, все-таки они рассказывают любопытную историю с отсылками к традиционным каббалистическим учениям, поэтому чуть-чуть поломать глаза стоит.
Но Malebolgia, так пытаясь стать хоррорными инди-душами, спотыкается на самых основах. С большим или меньшим успехом переняв принципы дизайна уровней, сторителлинга и системы сражений, она не может предоставить главное: контроль. Плавный и естественный геймплей, где если уж ошибаешься - то по своей собственной вине, а сражаться надо только с врагами (и внутренними страхами), но никак не с управлением. До чего же обидно.
A very enjoyable (if simple) Dark Souls 'clone' with minimalist graphics. The game doesn't tell one what to do for the most part and the player is left to explore the castle and discover the story of Leopold. While it has some issues (rather clunky and repetitive combat being its greatest flaw), the level and enemy designs are, for the most part, solid. If you're looking for something different (and I do mean *different*) then go ahead and try it, odds are you'll enjoy it.

荒れ狂う吹雪により橋の往来は絶たれている。寂寥感を覚える廃墟と化した宮殿に日の光は差し込まず、火を灯さねば足元すら見えない。人の気配がないその宮殿内に老騎士は囚われていた。いつからか、なぜなのか、は定かではない。確実に言えるのは、闇の中で悪魔や幽鬼が跋扈しており、日没が迫っているということだけだ。
本作は章仕立ての3人称視点で進めるアクションアドベンチャーである。セルシェーディングで描かれたローポリ風味のテクスチャーには陰影が色濃く現れ、手にした松明の灯がなければ画面は本当に真っ暗になってしまう。外から聞こえる吹雪の音が、暗い屋内をより一層心細いものにし、時折流れるBGMは孤独を感じさせる。作り出された雰囲気は初期のKing's Fieldに似ている。

暫く進めると、冒頭に書物の記述を見て以降、殆ど文字情報が出てこないことに気付く。幾つかの人ならざるNPCより進行に必要な手掛かりは得れど、主人公の置かれた境遇や状況に対する背景は多く語られず、物語はユーザーの想像に委ねられる。この点が本作の最大の肝と言ってよい。しばらく悶々とした状態でイメージは作られ続けるが、終盤にしっかりと回収される。語られる種明かしまでの待たされ具合は丁度よい長さに感じられたし、世界観に合ったプロットであったように思う。進行に詰まりさえしなければ、文字情報がなくてもデモを見ているだけで何となく話が分かるのがありがたい。
宮殿内には様々な敵や初見殺しが待ち受けている。セーブはオートではなく、セーブポイントで行わねばならない。死んだ際にすぐその場から再開できないのは難しく感じるかもしれないが、敵の攻撃パターンや配置はプレイしていると段々分かってくる。主人公の武器は槍で、リーチが思っている以上に長く、与えるダメージも大きい。入力のレスポンスも良く、敵の攻撃をブロックしたり回避することも簡単にできる。また宮殿内の蝋燭に火を灯すと失ったライフを回復できるのだが、そこら中に蝋燭はある。つまり慣れてくると主人公の性能の高さが際立って死ななくなり、リトライの即時性はそれほど気にならなくなるのである。存外、攻略難易度は低く、気持ちよくプレイできる。

マイナスの要素についても述べておく。
次に向かうべき目的地が分かりづらい。ボスを倒すと鍵を入手して先に進めるようになるのだが、このボスがどこにいるのかは周到に探さないといけない。探しづらい一つの要因として、マップの複数階を同時表示させ半透明処理していることで、現在いる階層と表示の重なっている箇所の通路の有無が視認しづらいのだ。
リプレイ性も低い。装備は初期装備のまま完全固定である。故にパターン化しやすい反面、多様性に欠く。クリア後の追加要素などもない。
そしてバグである。このゲームは最後までプレイすると完全に実績がオープンするハズなのだが、なぜか3つまでしか解放されない。一度エンドクレジットを見てからゲームを終え、再びゲームを起動してラスボスを倒すことで解放された。フォーラムにも同様の記述がある。また幾つかのデモではスキップのボタンを連打すると、デモの中断処理がうまく機能しないところがあった。割と陥りやすい状況のように思う。
全く期待せずに買った割には結構遊べた。ストアページのタグにホラーと表示されているがホラー要素は強くない。初期のKing's FieldやEcho Night、初代Diabloのような、暗い雰囲気が漂うゲームが好きな人にオススメしたい。
Malebolgia is an action game that uses heavily influence from Dark Souls (slow, animation locked combat, vague story) with exploration that feels like classic Resident Evil and cel-shaded visuals.
I feel that many might find the combat clunky - I certainly did at first, but as time went on I warmed it in a big way and enjoyed the way it played. It's slower than Dark Souls, and due to the lack of a stamina bar it's much more about timing. You can't hold up your block, it's a fixed animation that must be timed. Your attacks and dodges are similar.
The bosses and enemies all have different attacks and it is mostly about learning their patterns. Every boss bar one killed me several times. For me it was very satifying to take them down.
Exploration takes place in a large mansion. At first it was very disorientating as much of it looks the same. You get a map, and with a little time it did start to come together in my head. I found unlocking more of the palace fun and feel that the initial disorientation added to this. Later areas are more varied too, which was nice.
I'd say the high point of Malebolgia is the atmosphere. The drone-like music was unobtrusive but unsettling and the beautiful low-poly cell-shaded graphics fit in well. You feel the dread that infects the palace.
The story is vague. Unlike Dark Souls, where the story is easy to grasp but the lore needs digging out - the lore is integral to what is happening. It's also difficult to figure out and as such I won't pretend I fully understand the story. It certainly added to the atmosphere, but it meant that events had less impact than they should have.
My main critism of the game is that they have just missed the balance that Dark Souls strikes between not hand-holding and not giving enough direction. The Dark Souls games are set over a vast landscape where you clearly have to travel over it to proceed. Malebolgia takes place in one large palace that changes in each chapter. In the first chapters this is fine as you discover more of the palace, but later when you have discovered it all and the game wants to reexplore certain rooms, this can often lead to you wandering around for some time.
There is also one horrible example where you have to hit a wall, although you have NEVER done this before and never will again. You will need to look up where it is, I'm not really sure how anyone could stumble across it.
Overall I would say that if you're a fan of mysterious and tough games (y'know like Dark Souls) then pick this up. It's a little rough around the edges and takes a little getting into, but overall I enjoyed the experience and thought it was worth the price.

A great aesthetic but ruined by poor gameplay.
Malebolgia cribs heavily off of the Dark Souls series, high risk high reward gameplay where death is going to be common. Sadly, the controls are way too clunky for paces it puts you through. Movement is very basic and the controls match, you have a Lock-On button, Guard and Attack button. The game falls apart when it comes to combat, your guard and attack buttons won't do anything unless you're locked onto an enemy, this is bad because there's some enemy attacks (grabs) which will automatically break your guard, and locking back on doesn't always work. All of your attacks are slow and cumbersome and you don't get a dodge roll. Dying in the game doesn't feel like you messed up, but rather the character didn't do what you wanted it to which is frustrating at best.
Other than that the art and sound create a great atmosphere but the palace itself is too copy and paste, and rooms get reused a lot, leading you to become lost easily. Animations on everything are also very poor and look incredibly amature. With a little extra polish the game could be a nice little jem. As it stands I can't recommend it. Dark Souls gameplay stems from it's high level of execution of mechanics, everything is very responsive, but that can't be said for Malebolgia though it gives it a college try.
One word for describe malebolgia is: surprising.
This game deserves a LOT more attention.
Yes, at first look this game looks cheap and unpolished, and it is, in his special way.
But after the first couple of hours, the fantastic atmosphere, the tricky but very solid combat system, and the exploration overcome the first look.
It is obviusly Dark Souls, but a very minimalistic one, focusing on the essence of is peculiar gameplay. Only one weapon, no customization at all, take away all the rpg element and concentrate on the exploration, the timing in combat, and the lore (dante alighieri's inferno is the inspiration for the story).
This game really surprised me more than once, and if you let him try, closing an eye on the occasionally bugs and the first look, maybe can do the same for you.
For the Dark Souls lovers out there, it is an absolut must try.
If really you can't overcome the graphics, at least put it in your wishlist and wait for a price drop, -really, really deserve it-
So lets get the bad stuff out of the way first:
Malebolgia is a one man project and it shows. From the clunky and janky control and combat, to the very simple design of the castle and repetition of assets.
However, if you can get past all of that, you will find a very interesting and creative game.
Its a mixture of Dark Souls with Resident Evil, where you explore a castle not unlike the mansion of Resident Evil 1.
It takes inspiration from the imagery of Dante's Divine Comedy, more specifically the Inferno part.
You are a knight trapped in what seems like a feverish dream or purgatory and you must deal with the mistakes of your past while facing and avoiding beats and demons from your own personal hell.
The story is vague and very unintrusive, but it gives you just enough detils to make you search for the answers and get a full picture of what exactly is going on in this castle.
But really what shines is the atmosphere. The castle truly feels haunted , with paintings of religious and mythology motifs hanging everywhere, giving you subtext and suconscious details about the story, and you are forced to use a torch in this pitch black place. And the janky combat system serves its purpose as well, like Silent Hill or other japanese survival horror games, where the difficult controls are used to enhance the tension and dread of facing every enemy.
If you find this game on a sale, do pick it up if you are into cool experiences, I truly wish that the guy who made this had a bigger budget/team to take it to the next level.
But, if you are the kind of person who gets extremely frustrated from wrestling with controls and backtracking, then dont bother.
Прежде всего стоит, наверное, сказать, что эта игра из себя представляет. Многие, вероятно, купились на внешнее сходство с серией Соулс. Не хочу сказать, что это ошибочное ощущение, но всё же не вполне верное. Сходство скорее внешнее. Здесь нет лута (кроме ключей), дополнительного оружия, статов или прокачки (есть некий рудимент от неё, но считать его я бы не стал, просто после встреч с некой тварью у героя немного возрастают хп и урон). Боёвку можно, конечно, назвать Соуловской, но она такая встречается в большинстве экшенов от третьего лица. Можно дешиться в четыре стороны, можно ставить блок, бить слабыми ударами, переходящими в небольшую серию или одним сильным с выпадом. Собственно и все. Игра, в общем-то, не о боёвке. Рядовых противником можно и нужно пробегать. Разве что вначале можно попрактиковаться для боёв с боссами. Боссов же мало и они не сложные. Самых потных максимум с третьей, четвёртой попытки можно завалить. В основном же убиваешь с первой, ну, со второй. Основой геймплея я бы назвал ориентирование на местности. Мирок игры небольшой, но крайне плотный. Куча комнатах, коридоров, переходов, лестниц, залов и т.п. Опять же, похоже на Соулсы, скажите вы. Да, но там это было десятой частью геймплея, здесь же это основа. Чем-то это всё неуловимо напоминает старые думы, где краеугольным камнем прохождения уровня было не столько геноцид монстров, сколько нахождение проходов и ключей. Если вам ок, то можете смело брать. Не знаю на счёт фулпрайса (хотя игра и так не очень дорогая), но со скидкой вполне отобьётся.
P.S. Можно было бы ещё поныть на счёт графона и того, что анимация могла быть получше и её могло быть побольше, но, ком он. Игра сделана практически в одиночку, и выглядит и играется при этом вполне компетентно.
Malebolgia is a simple slimmed-down game in the spirit of Dark Souls, with challenging combat, obscure story and deep references to Dante's inferno.
The art style, while simple, is actually very striking and beautiful. This is complemented by the brilliant sound design, which, with the shadows and darkness of the castle, creates a genuinely spooky atmosphere.
The atmosphere is the highlight of the game. You explore this castle, fighting demons and holding your torch to the shadowy halls.
The combat feels clunky at first, but it's ok and actually quite fun when you get used to it. Definitely use a controller and disable invert-look when playing.
The game has some minor quirks and bugs, but nothing game-breaking. For a one-man dev team, and the fact that this game only costs a couple bucks, I must say I highly recommend it for anyone who is a fan of the genre.
It's a slightly easier, slimmed down Dark Souls clone with a simplistic, yet aesthetically pleasing, art style. Controls aren't really that bad at all if you're using a controller, so I'm not gonna jump on the "controls are bad" bandwagon. Picked it up on sale, and I don't regret it at all.

When I finally bought Malebolgia w/ an indie price, I was expecting an indie-level gameplay that has rich story to back it up.
I bought it FOR those. And it delivers.
The whole concept being a metaphor of Dante's Inferno while giving the feel of Dark Souls.
And a lot of negative reviews attack both elements, mostly the latter.

I'm sad to say that I don't really want to recommend this game. I appreciate the aesthetic, and I knew it was meant to be challenging going in. But the game fundamentals didn't work for me. Ultimately, it boils down to the incessant pausing that occurs throughout combat. It makes the combat frustrating and clunky.
Combat works fairly simply: a basic weapon attack, a strong weapon attack, and an attack with your torch. A lot of the combat is built around the timing and maneuvering of your attacks versus the enemy's. Reading their attack signals is important as it lets you know to move out of the way or try to time your block. Okay, it's all fine so far. That's not a bad system. The game also seems to try to add a claustrophobic tension by having you fight often in cramped quarters versus large opponents. Again, a fairly neat idea.
Where it falls apart for me, however, is the way that all strikes and blocks cause the action to freeze for what feels like nearly a half a second. There's no obvious beneficial reason for this pause--my best conjecture is that it's an "action-enhancing" effect--but it results in some serious complications regarding the combat. As the combat revolves around the timing of attacks and blocks, these pauses inhibit my ability to "feel" the timing. Take a common scenario: I attack, but my opponent has also begun its attack animation. I feel that I can still block it once my attack animation finishes. However, successfully landing the strike has caused the pause effect to happen. I now have miliseconds to successfully trigger a block, but now, instead of timing it from the beginning of the attack animation, I have to time it from the end of the pause, which creates an even shorter window and that's if I manage to guess when the pause ends. The typical result of all of this is me missing my window and taking yet another hit.
I suppose if my attacks broke the enemy attack animation, there wouldn't be a problem, but they don't. Also, I'm sure that there are those of you out there who are able to compensate for the pause and still pull of the block. I'm not saying no one can do it. I'm saying I can't. I tried to get better at it, but it ended up just making me mad.
There's some very cool ideas in here, and I really wanted to expore more, but I don't like to spend my free time doing things that make me mad. I know I've got less than 2 hours of play time on the game, but that's split over three play sessions, each of which had to end when I found myself actually yelling at the screen. (And no, that's not a common occurrence for me.) This left me with an upleasant experience and as a result I can't, in good faith, recommend the title.
Honestly not a great game. I can't say much in terms of play time, or how interesting it is throughout, or if the story/ending is enjoyable... Because I never made it past the first level. I never got to a point where I even had a weapon, outside of the tutorial.
While I'm talking about the tutorial, I should say, it's quite terrible. It has you fighting an enemy with button promts telling you what to do, but sometimes the prompts are on screen for literally half a second, not even close to enough time to read the. Trying to figure out the controls on your own/reading the promt one word at a time gets annoying, but once you figure out what to do, the game gets no less annoying.
The controls are very clunky and the timing of combat feels rather slilted. Maybe this is something one could get used to, but I wouldn't know as once I completed the short but frustrating turorial and started the main game, I got nowhere. It appears to start you off without a weapon, and I wandered around the assumed castle several times, each time dying because I couldn't figure out where to find a weapon. I even wondered into a boss room by mistake, and it turns out boss rooms lock you in when you enter, so I just had to stand there and let myself die so I could reset. I'm a fan of games not hand-holding more than they have to, bit this was a bit much. Being told what to do constantly isn't fun, but wandering around not nowing where to go and not being able to do anything isn't fun either. The most I could do is walk around rooms and hallways, light candles with my torch (I never did figure out if this was benifical in any way or not...) and maybe unlock a door with a key every once in a while (which resets when you die, by the way). I'd like to tell you if the game gets better, but based on the tutorial fight, I wasn't really eager to wander the dark castle halls for another half an hour to aqquire a sword or something so I could find out if the clunky combat is worth getting used to.
Visually, this game is actually quite nice. It may not be for everyone, but I find the simple, minimalist art design to be a rather interesting one, and everything that I did see looked pretty good. For what I assume is a low-budget indie game, the visuals and art took a smart direction and did what it could with less, and did it well. But bear in mind I did not see much of the game. The animations for your character aren't the best, but they're not game-breakingly bad or anything. I could have easily looked past it if controlling your character at least felt good. The enemy animation that I saw was honestly not too bad, although I imagine I only saw a fraction of the enemies in the game.
I will also note that there is no option to turn down the music volume, only the master volume. While the music wasn't bad, it was a little louder than I would have liked it, and I would have liked to be able to turn it down without also turning down the sound effects of enimies and such.
Overall, I can't recomend this game. It's simply not fun to play. If you really want to give it a shot, I won't tell you to avoid it at all costs. It looks nice and could be fun if it controlled well. But approch with caution.

でも フルプライス 1280円払うだけの価値は無いと思います。 私は90％オフの128円でこのゲームを買いましたが この値段での購入なら大いに満足できる良い買い物だと言えます。 あえて適正価格を考えるなら800円から半額の640円の間、もしくはそれ以下の値段になるでしょう。
PVやスクリーンショットは一見するとローポリ的で見た目のリアルさや面白味に欠けているように思えるかも知れませんが、プレイしている内に慣れてきて このグラフィックについては コレはコレで悪くないんじゃないか と思えるようになるはずです。 というのも、単にリアリティに欠ける楽なデザインに逃げているワケでははなく、雪や炎などの無形物が ◯ ・ △ ・ ❑ のような単純な図形に落とし込む手法で創意工夫をもって描き出されており、それが私には存外に本物っぽく 美しく見えてこないこともなかったからです。 シンプルながらも童話やおとぎ話の描かれた絵本のような雰囲気を持ったダークファンタジーの空気感を作り出そうという意欲が感じられました。
しかし、ほぼ左右対称なデザインの城の中を延々と歩きまわって、鍵を持ったボスを探しだして倒し、奪った鍵で錠の掛かった扉を開けて先に進む、というのを繰り返すゲームデザインになっている上、マップ画面上でキャラクターが現在 どの方角を向いているかが分からない表示になっているので 道に迷ってしまいやすい ことは否定できません。
窓の外の雪が照り返す淡い光とロウソク、暖炉の炎しか明かりのないメレボルジアという名前の城の中を、中世的なデザインの鎧を纏って 左手には松明、右手にはハルバードのような長柄武器を携えた戦場を駆けるライオンこと、レオポルドおじさんになって道中邪魔をしてくる悪魔を倒しつつ何故 メレボルジア城が悪魔に支配され雪に閉ざされることになったのかを、城内を探索して解き明かしていくというようなストーリー。 各章のボスを倒すと文章による解説がベースの短いムービーが挿入されて次の章へ、という仕組みで進行していきます。 城内を探索していると[spoiler]やたらとフレンドリーで人語を操り会話のできる悪魔[/spoiler]と出会うことがあり、そいつらの話している内容の重要部分が読み取れる程度の英語力がないと、錠の掛けられた扉を開くための鍵を求めて 手掛かり無しの総当りで城の中を駆けずり回らなければならなくなるので、若干の英語力は必要と思われます。
PV、スクリーンショットを見ると何となく分かる通り、完全に 『DARK SOULS』 を意識して作られたオマージュ・パスティーシュ作品に当たるゲームになっています。 アクション、探索、グラフィック、ストーリー等全てがシンプルで取っつきやすく簡単になった “簡易版 『DARK SOULS』” を想像して頂ければ そのイメージと今作、『Malebolgia』 のプレイ感覚やあらすじは それほど離れてはいないでしょう。 武器は最初から持っている松明とハルバードのみで防具は無し、プレイヤーが使える飛び道具は弓も 魔法や呪術も無い仕様になっています。
Xboxコントローラーでプレイする場合の操作方法は、左スティックで移動、右スティックでカメラを動かせ、調べられる物を調べたり扉を開けたりするのには接近してからAボタン、城内にいる会話のできる人物と会話するにはRBボタンを使います。 戦闘態勢に入るには、敵の方へカメラを向けてからRBボタンを押してロックオン。 Aボタン連打で三段までの通常攻撃コンボ、Yボタンで隙は大きいが与えるダメージも大きい強攻撃を繰り出せます。 敵の攻撃には通常のガード可能な攻撃と、敵の目が光る等の合図の後に発動されるガード不能な特殊攻撃があり、ガード可能な攻撃は一度RBボタンを押して敵をロックオンした状態を保ったままLBボタンを押すか、後退しながらAボタンを押すことでガード可能ですが、敵の攻撃のタイミングに合わせてガードを発動させないと狙ったとおりに被ダメージを防ぐことが出来ないので少し慣れが必要です。 ガードすることの出来ない特殊攻撃については、これも敵をロックオンした状態で 後方か左右の任意の方向へ左スティックを倒しながらBボタンを押すことで回避行動を取ることができるので、タイミングを見計らって入力すれば通常攻撃・特殊攻撃どちらも回避することが可能です。 戦闘時に大切なのは 敵との距離を適切に保つこと。 ロックオン状態で敵と接近しすぎた時にはXボタンを押して松明を一振りして炎を食らわせ、敵を後退させることができるので有効に使いましょう。 松明は最も素早く繰り出せる攻撃ですが、与えるダメージが低く射程の短い、敵を下がらせるための武器です。 受けてしまったダメージの回復は、扉の脇にある火の灯いていないロウソクに近づいて Aボタンで松明から火を注いでやることによって可能です。 壁際の特定位置に立っている振り子時計の傍でAボタンを押すと、進行状況をセーブすることができます。
ややもするとチープでつまらなさそうだと感じられ、その時点で興味を失ってしまいかねないグラフィックの質素さ。 それから受ける第一印象だけで、どうせ面白くないゲームだろ、日本語対応してないし、と捨て置いてしまうには ちょっと惜しいと言えるくらいの面白さを充分に隠し持っているアクションゲームです。 まぁまぁのボリュームもありますし、セールの時にでも開発して積みゲーしておいて、暇になったら試しにプレイしてみるのにも丁度良いゲームだと思います。 流石に本家 『DARK SOULS』 ほど骨太な難易度を期待すると大きく肩透かしを食らうことになってしまいますが。
いつか 『DARK SOULS』 シリーズをやってみたいと思っているけど、メチャクチャな高難度と聞いてどうも手を出すに至っていない というような人には予行練習 ( のさらに練習みたいな感じかも知れない) として大いにオススメ。

補足修正を入れておくと、メレボルジアは城ではなく “Palace” と表記されているので本当は “宮殿” でした。 この宮殿というのにはおおまかに分類すると、儀式等を行うことを目的として建てられたものと、それに加えて居住スペースを設けてあるものの二種類があるそうで、今作のメレボルジア宮殿の実態は言うなれば、[spoiler]「悪魔崇拝のために建てられた居住スペース付きの宮殿」[/spoiler]だと思います。 有りがちだけど このゲーム、オチも好きなんだよなぁ。
If you're looking for a game that is far far too hard to play.. this is it. I hope you don't have the reaction time of a human and possess a christ like reflex because to beat the opening tutorial you need it.

Well, yes, the combat system IS different. But also, this GAME is different. You see, the combat in this game is more realistic, for some reason, it reminds me of Dark Souls, horribly difficult, and nearly no respawn points. However, the combat system does have one major flaw, "Health regen". There are no healing abilities or items :/
Anyways, moving on, this game has a beautiful backstory and a really dark atmosphere. Sound, is "ok", I can see it was going for a "quiet" theme, however having some sort of ambience would be nice as well.
I bought this game on sale for $1.29. I personally would have bought this game at full price, because I am a fan of these types of games, but I know that MOST people aren't. Buying this game on sale, "definitely" Buying this game at full price, Maybe, if you have money to spend, but if you are trying to conserve money, there are some other titles that will return the price you put into it.

The game does suffer from some frustrations without a doubt. Laggy controls, backtracking and slow pacing make the game tough going in places, but the atmosphere is well done and very effective and the sparse minimilist graphics give an eerie vibe.
If your looking for a low cost dark souls inspired game and you have a bit of patience then this could well be worth a look. If you want a more hectic fast paced game then this is not the game for you.
It would be a good game but, the Controls are horrible! You click to strike and sit back, eat a sandwich and wait for your stick to strike the monster that already killed you. If you are going to put combat in a game, make the controls work! This could have been a great game. But the controls need major work! PLEASE, PATCH IT!
每次攻击都会卡一下是要怎样。攻击动作没有做完只做了一半的结果吗？
目前我卡在两个法师的地方，我和其中一个对刚，另一个就拼命地给他加血，我搞不过，我认输。而人物死亡将从存档点读档，很抱歉，上一个存档点离我卡关的地方实在是比较遥远，我不想再跑了。
攻击敌人前需要先按鼠标右键锁定怪物拿出武器，怪被打死就会自动还原非战斗状态，往往在来了两只怪以上的的时候，撸死了一只，你就忘了你恢复了非战斗状态，当你反应过来的时候，你可能已经被怪揍了一顿。
地图（城堡）非常大，要往哪儿走都要靠自己一点一点的发掘要素。
所以整体上玩起来虽然不吃力但是挺折磨人。
画面挺好，色块风格，既节约了成本又挺有特色，不过个人感觉这种清新的风格，倒是是怎么跟“恐怖”这个标签挂钩起来的。毕竟再恐怖的怪，用这种风格做出来都显得像一堆脆弱的纸片。
Um dos mais bonitos jogos criados utilizando a Unity que eu já vi, com uma atmosfera extremamente densa e uma boa dose de suspense. Entretanto é um jogo recheado de sérios problemas, a começar com a falta de opções nos menus, com exceção das sombras e da resolução, absolutamente nada pode ser mudado, nem mesmo os comandos que são bastante ruins diga-se de passagem.
O jogo também tem sérios problemas de roteiro, pouca coisa é explicada ao jogador e pelas primeiras horas, andamos por um enorme castelo matando criaturas sem nenhuma noção dos motivos por detrás disso. Mas isso é um pequeno problema, quando comparamos ao gameplay em si, básicamente você anda -> mata criaturas simples -> pega uma chave -> mata um boss.
Esse processo é repetido inumeras vezes, sendo jamais quebrado por qualquer tipo de variação, não existem quebra-cabeças, não existem missões secundárias, não existe nem ao menos coleta de itens. O jogador começa com uma alabarda (mistura de machado com lança) e uma tocha, que vão acompanha-lo ao longo do jogo inteiro, não existe nenhuma outra arma, magia, etc... Que possa ser usada, apenas esses dois equipamentos que contam com dois ataques, um forte/lento e um fraco/rápido.
Os npcs não possuem nenhuma indicação, então você não sabe se são inimigos até estar perto o suficiente para eles arrancarem um pedaço seu. Mas a pior parte, com toda certeza é o tamanho artificial do jogo, em média ele dura cinco ou seis horas, todavia, isso só acontece porque ele coloca os save points a uma certa distância dos chefes, não salva os inimigos que vc abateu (respawn) e nem seu escudo, então toda vez que vc morrer para um dos inumeros chefes (o que vai acontecer bastante por causa dos péssimos controles), vc vai ter que andar uma distância "x" para pegar seu escudo, uma distância "y" até o chefe e enfrentar "z" inimigos até chegar nele.
Caso o jogo permitisse salvar a qualquer momento, ou mantivesse o seu escudo, ou não tivessem esse "respawn" de criaturas, ele poderia facilmente ser batido em pouco mais de uma hora. Para os caçadores de conquista, sugiro não se focarem muito nisso aqui, pois elas estão bugadas, vc pode terminar o jogo sem habilitar nenhuma ou começar ele e já desbloquear uma ou duas.
E mesmo com todos esses problemas eu admito que eu gostei do jogo, mas pelo preço de 26 reais é impossível recomenda-lo. Se você gosta de desafio e tem bastante paciência, esse jogo talvez te agrade, mas espere uma promoção de 50% -- 75% ou adquira ele por meio de um Bundle.

Should you buy this game? Yes, it is well worth the price, playing the game you can easily look past all of the flaws and have a good time.

ゲームの流れは（憶測ですが）
悪魔の城にやってきた主人公たちが館内を探索しながら
悪魔達と戦いながら、この城で何が起こったのかを突き止めていき・・・のような。
たぶんゲームプレイはさくさくいけば４、５時間くらいででクリア
セーブは任意のセーブポイント制
ゲーム全体は雰囲気・ＭＡＰはかなり暗めに仕上がっており、ホラー感があります
戦闘は単調な部分がありますがボス戦は緊張感と緊迫したものがありなかなか面白いです
城を行ったりきたりして面倒な部分と
城の壁に配置されてるロウソクに火をともさないと減ったＨＰを回復できないといった
わかりにくい所が我慢できれば楽しめると思います
Do gry zachęcił mnie jej styl graficzny i kolorystyka. później już było coraz lepiej i dałem jej kredyt zaufania. Jest to typowa gra akcji z elementami przygodowymi i zręcznościowymi, dodatkowo ukraszona elementami horroru. Przez wielu porównywana do Dark Souls, ale powiedzmy, że tylko sprawia takie wrażenie, bo w rzeczywistości jest bardzo łatwa i mało w niej elementów dark fantasy. Akcja rozgrywa się w pomurym wiktoriańskim zamku, stylizowanym i inspirowananym twórczością Dantego Alighieri. Wcielamy się w postać starego mężczyzny (tutaj więcej nie powiem, by nie zdradzać fabuły), naszym celem jest wydostanie się z tego koszmaru, wszędzie czekają na nas bestie i zjawy chcące naszej śmierci, spotykamy także parę znajomych twarzy, które pomogą nam i wskażą drogę do celu, ale nie wszystko jest takie pewne jak się zdaje na początku, coś czycha na nasze życie i trzeba uważnie stawiać kroki, by nie zaczynać gry od ostatniego zapisu. Oprócz zwiedzania posiadłości, naszym głównym zadaniem będzie częsta walka z potwornościami i jak na długość tej gry (jak się ktoś uprze to przejdzie w 2-3 godziny), czeka nas spora ilość walk z bossami. Aby jednak do nich dojść przemierzamy posiadłość wzdłuż i wszerz w poszukiwaniu kluczy, które czasem chronione, a czasem nie, czekają na nas gdzieś w zamku (gra nie podpowie nam gdzie iść, trzeba więc polegać na własnej pamięci i logice, np. kiedy jakiś pomnik wcześniej blokował nam drogę teraz zniknął i utworzyło się przejście). Sterowanie w grze nie sprawia trudności, można powiedzieć nawet, że jest bardzo łatwe (poruszamy się przyciskami WSAD, akcję wykonujemy przyciskami myszki), walki polegają głównie na unikaniu wyprowadzanych przez wroga ciosów i kontrataku w odpowiednim momencie. Graficznie nie jest może rewelacyjnie, ale nietypowy styl graficzny wprowadza odpowiedni klimat w tej grze, co wyróżnia ją na tle wielu podobnych tematycznie gier. Mroczny klimat, powstały dzięki sceneriom i panującym prawie wszędzie połmrokom i ciemnościom, dodaje także noszona przez nas pochodnia (służąca także do odzyskiwania przez nas zdrowia - wystarczy zapalić niezapalone pochodnie, których pełno przy każdych prawie drzwiach) oraz dźwięki otoczenia i muzyka ( czasem słychać nawet grającą na fortepianie kobietę, której tożsamości nie zdradzę). Ogółem, jak na przeciętnego indyka, całkiem przyjemnie mi się grało i nie powiem (a i optymalizacja wyszła bardzo dobrze), ale zagrałbym w kolejną część. o ile będzie tym razem trochę trudniejsza i nie pogardziłbym także większym tym razem arsenałem. Całej większości, o ile nie ma zastrzeżeń co do grafiki i sterowania, mogę szczerze polecić (gra jest dodatkowo bardzo tania i jak trafi się na promocję to można smiało brać). Fanom indyków polecam :)

Damn beautiful game. Got very invested in the story and found the atmosphere and sound to be perfect for the setting. Wasn't a moment I wanted to stop. Kept playing to see where it was all going.

While I personally was NOT a fan of the combat system, there is a great game here. I just can't get over the combat. It was...something else. With Dark Souls RIGHT THERE to emulate, this feels...lacking.

Could be fantastic, but the handling of the game ruins it. Honestly, I wanted to love this, but can't reccomend until something is done.
Tldr; simplified dark souls style game, narrative is pretty good, atmospheric and striking visuals, good music.
I am really impressed that an indie game company has been able to develop a game with mechanics similar to Dark Souls. I enjoyed this game for the most part.
The visuals are beautiful and very clever. I really enjoyed the striking contrast of the colours with the simplistic polygon style. Malebolgia comes off as clean and never overpowering or crowded. I loved the use of light and the torchlight really lent itself to the atmosphere. I particularly enjoyed as the game progressed through the acts, the atmosphere became darker without being too obvious. If there's any critique to be made, I feel that Leopold's model could play with light and shadow a little better, as he was a bit awkward looking at times. I also understand that it's much more difficult to have light interact with dynamic objects though, so I am not too bothered. I also thought that important NPC's could have more defined models, as some of them share models with regular monsters.
I enjoyed the OST for this game. Very atmospheric and well done. I also enjoy a game that can appreciate silence as important in setting tone for a scene or area.
Narrative is great. I enjoy games that don't necessarily hand you the entire plot. The game trusts the player to remember small details and connect the dots themselves. The pacing is good, apart from the one of the last portions of the game, where it requires you to set specific things on fire. I thought this was so out of place, especially right after a big boss battle. It was easily the poorest part of the game in terms of pacing and mechanic.
Gameplay is good. It differs from Dark Souls in that there is no customization or weapon/armour collection. The fighting system is particularly simple, probably because it takes a great deal of work to code this type of game. This game can be quite difficult if the player isn't acquainted with Dark Souls style gameplay. I found it to be a bit too easy at times, as some mobs could be defeated by backstepping > attack > backstep > etc. I didn't utilize the block function very often. I found it frustrating that I couldn't unsheathe my weapon unless there was a mob around, and that when fighting multiple enemies, I couldn't choose which one I wanted to target with ease.
Overall, I enjoyed Malebolgia and I look forward to seeing future projects from this game dev.
Been looking to by this since it was released and finally did and was extremely disappointed. The framerate is in the 20-50 range all the time, the audio is completely screwed up, and it's really clunky because of it. It's unplayable.
