Game of my childhood. I would definitely play a remake (with multiplayer option ofc).

i think this game has something unique to it, it combines the limits of locomotives on only rails, the use of guns on cart/wagon and the rts mechanic of it, it's so interesting and fun, the graphic might not look at all appealing in todays standard, but it has this unique concept to it. the story is nice, and its just the idea of trains with gun cart is what so fun about it, and i kind of wish they could make some form of anniversary remake of the game, maybe turn it into 3D and a upped graphic. Overall i totally recommend this game to anyone who comes across this game and try it. Dont let the graphics and looks deceive you

Wyjątkowa gra strategiczna, w całości skupiająca się na pociągach pancernych. Tematyka co prawda niszowa, ale za to jak wciągająca! Kolorowa, kosmiczna grafika, świetne udźwiękowienie i muzyka oraz kampania długa na 20 rozdziałów. Szeroki wybór jednostek, co przy prostym sterowaniu daje naprawdę niski próg wejścia. Interesujące wykorzystanie mechanik, całkiem wysoki poziom trudności ale bez szaleństw. Dla wielu (w tym dla mnie) olbrzymia dawka nostalgii, bo pamiętam tę grę jeszcze z dzieciństwa. Jedyne minusy, jakie przychodzą mi do głowy, to brak trybu multiplayer oraz maksymalna rozdzielczość zablokowana na 1024x768 :( Cóż, nie można mieć wszystkiego. Tak czy inaczej polecanko, 8/10.
Впервые поиграл в детстве, классная игра. На Windows 11 работает стабильно, не вылетает.
Очень мечтал, что бы в ней была сетевая игра или возможность создавать свои уровни.
Надеюсь, что какая нибудь инди студия сможет переиздать эту игру с сетевым режимом)

It's good to see this old game on Steam, after few hours of game play i can say it's unique game. Game has a lot of mechanics that create new strategies totally fresh and new, most of them revolves around train movement. First half of campaign is challenging and gradual teaches strategies, missions are short but requires good timing, precision so to beat level often i had have few attempts, searching for optimal; strategy it was really fun. Graphics is something that cannot be reproduced today, lot of work has been put to make maps look interesting. Unfortunately later in the campaigning new weapons destroy balance and game becomes somewhat repetitive. Games also has bug from time to time, trains get clogged, and enemy AI gets stuck and is have issues to defend against really unusual tactics

This game is just about two empires and also about train combat. That's the main reason why is it soo good. Best game ever.
This is ma childhood. I still have the Estonian translated version of the game on CD, but im still happy to see it on Steam.

It's have really interesting game mechanic's. i played often before on steam, up this day i still have original CD with this game. what i wish to see, it would be is remake of this game, or have another game.

Graphic it's simple, and at that time i really was enjoing it, even now i enjoy that graphic. Music it's alos simple but interesting, it's siut well whole gameplay. i think that game deserve more attention. even tough it's 2024... My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

Ещё 16 лет назад играл в эту игру на диск версии. Потом к сожалению потерял диск, но обложка осталась. Игра очень классная и прикольная, особенно для тех, кто любит поезда (меня). Игре уже много лет, но графика такая, пиксельная, хотя на заставках там всё в 3D. Ну оно понятно, спрайтовая игра, что очень даже хорошо. Насчёт о создании модификаций для игры, то разработчики ничего из этого не оставили, а мне всегда хотелось (хочется) новый уровень создать. Ну, думаю ожидать не стоит, так как про игру мало кто знает, но если бы разработчики оставили хоть какой-то моддинг для неё, то была бы думаю более-менее популярна. Игра в своём роде единственная и уникальная такая, в стим версии отличается только музыкой в главном меню, как в диск версии, там поётся песня. Спасибо маме, что купила мне эту игру в магазине. На тот момент мне было 6 лет. Спасибо разработчикам за эту прекрасную игру детства. Очень рекомендую, если конечно, любите стратегии и поезда.

Locoland is an ancient game from 2003. It's a whopping 20 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge.
It was an interesting twist on the RTS genre of the time, merging RTS gameplay with train tracks... you move your locomotive around to collect guns etc, and drive your train on the tracks to where things need to be shot. Well, given this is just a nostalgia gouge and nobody made a game similar since, it's safe to say the idea didn't catch on.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. Now, we might say "Ah, but that's just the graphics of the time"... but it isn't. The game was released in 2003 alongside games like Rainbow 6, Call of Duty (how far that title has fallen) and Max Payne 2. There's no excuse for such crappy graphics back then, and there certainly isn't today.
The game only displays in 4:3 pillarboxed aspect ratio. It's possible they developed this using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game has been specifically designed for people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming. Likewise, resolution caps out at Super VGA.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only appears around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
Unethically, the developers have left this on the Steam store in an unplayable and broken state. This is harmful to Steam and to gamers, because it takes a share of the marketing space and visibility away from other games. It's polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to find genuine games and for genuine indie developers who put months or years into making proper games find an audience.
The developer is deliberately and unethically trying to scam gamers into paying them the almost unethical price of $5 USD for a game they know is broken. Don't give it to them.

先骂缺点，这些点真的没法无视：随着科技发展，游戏的兼容性越来越跟不上一些设备，不少英文评论说的真不假，（劳资通关后想再玩这个游戏结果无法创建账户！）
还有命令移动的汽笛声太吵，最好优化（你想想你要躲避致命攻击以及做紧急调动会有多吵你就明白了）
驶入一个圈时列车太长的话有时会无法控制列车向前或向后行驶
部分能同时生产维修车和弹药车的关卡太过容易。（建议加个限制或更好的方案）
骂完缺点说优点：这游戏给我带来的欢乐无法估量，我全款入手除了兼容性问题解决不了时退不了款那时候就比较后悔其他时间我都不后悔，游戏虽老旧但美术音乐以及玩法都很有意思。
这游戏的质量完全爆杀粗制滥造的游戏以及能和当今一些游戏比一比，我认真的。
建议或点子：
首先是我开头骂的问题不是兼容就是一些影响体验的东西。
还有就是可以再增设一个难度：敌军的防御以及军队规模比困难更多，防守用的无动力列车组都增设动力车头防止玩家强制抢夺。
手动瞄准攻击可以优化，建议学一下战争之人（Men of War）系列的。做到长按开始连续攻击，按Shift键就开始瞄准鼠标指向位置
新增能用wasd或箭头键等能用键盘移动列车的方式。

Best strategy game there is, I do not care what anyone says. If they say this game is bad, then they just suck at it. No RTS games of nowdays match up to the fun and excitement this one brings.
В режиме "Первичный видеодрайвер" игра заработала нормально, но не работает в других режимах. В целом поменяю оценку на положительную, но было бы лучше с более допиленной совместимостью.

J'ai connue ce jeux il y a très longtemps, je désespérer de ne plus pouvoir y jouer et finalement après de longue recherche j'ai finit par le retrouver sous un autre nom !
Ne vous arreter pas au graphisme qui son évidemment vieillot , le jeux est vraiment très intéressant, que se soit niveau combat, stratégie, bande son et j'en passe.
Le but du jeux est d'avancer de niveau en niveau, donc la difficulté est relativement progressive même si certain niveau sont très difficile et d'autre extrêmement rapide a terminer. On est donc au commande de locomotive de combat, et on gère tout de A a Z ( excepter le carburant ).
En soit le jeux ne brille pas forcément par sa diversité d'objectif ( la quasi totalité des mission consiste a vaincre l'ennemi ), mais chaque carte est différente, avec ses propre biome, ennemie, piège et tourelle fixe. On peut globalement choisir de vaincre par la stratégie, ou par le bourinnage, mais certaine mission nous oblige a prendre rapidement des décision ( et un mouvement de train peut faire la différence entre victoire et défaite ).
Une fois qu'on a comprit comment fonctionne les wagon, comment prendre en main le jeux, il est relativement simple.
En résumé , si vous êtes fan de locomotive et de jeux Hold-School, ce jeux est fait pour vous ! Je dirait que sont plus gros défaut est qu'il n'y a aucune re-jouabilité. Une fois qu'on a terminer le jeux, c'est terminer. Mais on peut évidemment refaire les niveau comme bon nous semble.
EDIT du 24/11 : Le lendemain de la publication de mon évaluation, ma sauvegarde a complètement disparue sans aucune raison. Il ne c'est absolument rien passé de spécial sur l'ordinateur entre hier et aujourd'hui et je me retrouve avec un jeux complètement vide de sauvegarde.
Et apparemment je ne suis pas le seul, loin de la. Donc mon évaluation ne concerne pas le jeux en lui même ( qui fonctionnais très bien sur CD ) mais le portage sur Steam qui apparemment ne lui réussit pas, dommage.

One of the best games of my childhood. Imagine someone would made a remake or another part of this game.
I remember this game from my childhood and I completed it few times on hard mode but it still brings joy.
PROS:
- very original idea
- good graphics and very low requirements
- diverse landscapes and weapons
CONS:
- the AI is a bit retarded and repetitive
- there are few bugs
- the objective is almost always the same - destroy everything and capture everything

Lubię tą grę i cały ten pomysł taktycznej potyczki pociągami. Jest to również jedna z moich ulubionych gier z dzieciństwa no ale jeżeli mam być szczery to nie polecam jej kupować z tego powodu, że ma solidną liczbę błędów takich jak np. po użyciu Alt+Tab i wejściu z powrotem do gry, ta właśnie się psuje. Cały ekran po prostu zaczyna szaleć i zmienia miejscowo odcień na różowy. Kolejna rzecz to nie da się wpisać imienia do zapisu żeby zapisać postęp gry, zamiast tego napis znika. Naprawdę chciałbym żeby ktoś spojrzał jeszcze raz na tą produkcję gdyż wierze, że ma w sobie potencjał. Moim zdaniem to jakiś tryb multiplayer 1 vs 1 byłby świetny i więcej poziomów do kampanii. Materiał w porządku ale popsuty 5/10

An underrated masterpiece! This game brought me back to childhood.
Locoland (Steamland) it's a intriguing and original RTS game amazingly based on the rails logic. Since I played it for the first time I found it unique and after 2 decades I am still surprised by this game and how genial is the idea, that actually would deserve more. I am still hoping for a future of the genre and more levels/units/mods
Not bad for when it came out, but not good enough to be worth recommending nowadays.

Steamland startet soweit, aber beim Player Select, kann ich einen namen eingeben, aber wenn ich Enter drücke, dann wird der name reseted und ich habe dann wieder keinen Player.

Aha, jeszcze jest czasami taki bug, że nie da rady tworzyć profili. W tej sytuacji polecam sprawdzić spójność plików gry, to na pewno naprawi ten błąd i znów będziecie mogli grać.

This game has unique concept that has not been replicated in any form yet, unfortunetelly, the uniqueness brings a lot of trouble alongside it as well. There are trains strictly better than others, sometimes they are overpowered as well. aquiring money is finicky, and the fact you got only one factory that makes every train makes the game unsuitable for multiplayer, if it would have been programmed into the game of course. one kamikaze could theoretically camp your factory the entire game...
As for the single player (THE ONLY MODE IN THE GAME!), The game gets much more enjoyable after aquiring flamethrower aproximetelly at mission 10. Before then homever, the difficulty can get insane. seriously, FUN black gold and citadel. the variety of the levels is pretty good, the sceneries change as well and aged pretty well for retro game like this. and if you get stuck on citadel, just turn the difficulty down and hope you can muscle through (pro tip: if you get all 5 money cubes in the level reinforcments will come)
Also there is a problem with the fact this game got a virus in CDPRO.bin, there are ways to overcome this though!
1. delete CDPRO.bin
2. search for steamland (the orifinal name of this game) on the interenet and download the demo
3. replace the steam.exe file in your steamapps folder with the demo steam.exe (steam.exe is the launcher for the game, not to be confused with steam as a service)
4. the game should be good to go and play virus!
IF YOU REALLY GET STUCK IN THE GAME
there are codes online that unlock all levels, so you can skip the already mentioned citadel, black gold and even some other like wep or swamp monster, which are brutal as well. I have used this numerous times at my young age.
I have replayed this game as a child many times, and the nostalgia hit hard for me. partially because of this, Im giving this game thumbs up. Its debatable if this game is worth 5 Euro, but if you see this game on a 90% discount, I can garantue you its worth a try!

Я хотел поиграть в любимую игру детства, но я просто охуеваю с ваших багов конченные вы дебилы, каким местом вы ♥♥♥♥ залили эту игру? Я полчаса жму энтер и у меня не создается игрок, а когда заказываешь юнита в депо иногда вылезает панель меню(( удалить или удалить или остановить)(вот эта панель)) Просто нереально бесит.Это ещё учитывая что у меня просто так слетело сохранение. Заебись поиграл спасибо за то что отняли мои нервы, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Помню как в детстве не мог осилить игру на "нормальной" сложности)
На самом деле, с первого взгляда на первый уровень, кажется, что тут надо задавить врага массой, но на самом вам дают довольно ограниченные ресурсы. (Но на втором уровне есть бесконечные стрекозы, нажимая на которые можно получать +1 доллар, а на первом уровне вам даются пассажирские составы с деньгами, предполагаю чтобы вы могли всё опробовать на вкус и освоиться с управлением)
Дальше, детство заканчивается и вас начинают кидать в пекло, особенно если вы поставили "сложный" уровень сложности. И уже нужно изучать механизм игры довольно детально. "О железные штучки отключились, что же я сделал, ага я понял, прикольно".
А чего стоят эмоции "провезти большой состав попав в тайминг железных штучек" или понять кого с какой дистанции бить.
А ощутить дамаг поезда-бомбы, это вообще сказка.

Годная игра для 2003 года.
I first played Locoland back when it was called Steamland, on a loose CD in a stack from an estranged family member almost 15 years ago. I spent hours attempting to play it on my already aging Windows 98 computer set up in my bedroom, and boy did I suck at it. Fast forward to about two months ago and I find it on Steam and, despite never being any good at it, I bought it.
Playing it now, I realise that the game isn't necessarily any easier - I'm just more patient. It's still tricky, and isn't exactly monumental as far as strategy games go, but I still enjoy playing it. As frustrating as it can be fighting against the enemy trains, mounting attacks on their factories and repair depots and fending off zeppelins, I think it makes the victories even sweeter because you really need to fight for it.
Locoland is not perfect. But despite its simple concept, it keeps you trying again and again until you prevail over the enemy with skill, patience, and to be honest, a decent amount of luck.
Best played in a good mood.
One word: childhood
Excellent game from my childhood. Especially great when you like trains, real time strategy and good for it's time visuals that have not really aged much. Game offers 20 levels with different biomes that are pleasing to look at. There are many trains available and some levels offer unending supply of money to experiment with builds. There are many little tricks that have to be learned which provide some challenge. Even though I'm older now, it's still great to get back and experience this strategy anew. Fantasy world is really great to immerse yourself into. I can say it's a great not very complex game for kids and adults alike. This game got me into more complex strategy games so it has special place in my heart. For me it's 9/10, if there ever would be second version, multiplayer, level editor and endless mode and of course more types of train cars are what I would add.
Also worth to note, 2 fixes: If you can't select player at the start, you need to launch the game as administrator. If game lags, use lower resolution (not the largest available). I had these 2 issues and I fixed them that way. it's an old game so it's understandable that it has errors on new systems.
Hum... A mixed bag. This is a very original RTS game. You assemble trains with cars with different powers and you go fighting on rails for 20 missions. Old graphics but still nice. Decent music.
No bugs or crashes. Runs fine on Win 7.
Now, no tutorial, no tooltips, no descriptions, 'easy' would be 'normal' or 'hard' for today standards... the old concept of getting the player to find out everything by himself and get frustrated with repetition. The game, though, is not hard to understand. The problem is the difficulty spikes to crazy. The strategy part of the game goes down the drain in some missions cause there's only one way to win and, even when discovering that could be part of the fun, it gets boring to try for the perfect timing over and over again. This game was promising, a sequel might fix and improve many of its flaws... but that seems unlikely. So what we have here is kinda a hit and miss experiment and nostalgic retro-gaming. But no more. I think this is a very niche game and I find it hard to recommend it to the masses.

I bought the game cause it was one of my favorite games free childhood but after I finished a few levels everything bugged and I can't enter username anymore and therefore can't play :((((((((((
Можно взять если играли когда-то и хотите поиграть пару часиков - поностальгировать, всем остальным не рекомендую. Прикольная на первый взгляд ртс не имеет в себе какой-то серьезной стратегической основы, просто настрой кучу поездов и закидай врага металлоломом

Recommending against getting or installing this game, primarily due to the "Trojan Horse" reported and blocked by my Norton anti-virus on the CDPRO.BIN file installed with the game (file reported to be from 9 years and 9 months ago). Even if a false warning, first impressions are of a quite dated game (released 17 years ago) and not worth the effort or the risk.
It's not working, menu is broken, haven't noticed it playing in the background , glad I bought it for 0.4 usd not 4
