It's so and so. OK when it's on sale but not otherwise.
The game desperately tries to be another Portal but fails pretty much on every level to live up to it. It constantly references Portal but not in a clever way. It even reuses jokes from Portal.

Where GlaDOS is at times snarky, ironic, sarcastic, trolling and passive aggressive the guy who is constantly talking at you in this game is just being a pompous prick 24/7. That shtick gets real old real fast.

The environment doesn't make any sense in a pre-shadow context - particularly the switches.
Also you really have to NOT think about the game mechanics...because why would you not just pick up a light and point it at your feet and walk out of there? Yes, the game forces you to only turn lights in one plane but there's no reason given for this constraint.

The audiologs (which seem to be a must-have for games of this sort) don't make much sense, either. Even the recording woman says recording devices are forbidden and no one can leave the facility so no one could have smuggled any in. Where do these crates of recorders come from she's using?

The entire game would actually have been MUCH better off without any of these and any of the monolog from Virgil. It would have been spooky and cryptic instead of badly written and acted.

Some of the puzzles are fun. Some are merely tedious. The game does look good at times, though.

Really fun puzzle game. A lot of homage to portal, especially on the humour front (Also a direct mention of Aperture Science).
Avoid the shadows, shine light on them, do what you must to escape.

Good story and good world building. Very a-kin to a 'Portal' like game, especially with the reference at the end of the game. Puzzles were a nice challange before the end and about a average difficulty through out the whole game.

Lightmatter ran ok for game built around the game mechinic of heavy shadows in a Unity game. I don't know why the main menu runs so badly? It's also weird that you can't change the key binds to the game, used a controller instead for my play through. :/

a well-designed and fun puzzle game similar in style to Portal and Portal 2.
Even though the achievements are a bit tedious the game is definitely enjoyable and makes for a nice few hours of puzzling.
The athmosphere is awesome, the voice acting is superb, the soundtrack enhances the experience.
Some of the physics are at times a little bit clunky but not enough to become frustrating.
Overall I would recommend the game to fans of the 3D physics based puzzle games like Portal and Talos Principle though do be warned that this game is far shorter than those game so maybe wait for a sale.

O jogo é uma ótima experiência com puzzles, tem diálogos engraçados com uma narração muito bem feita. Como muitos podem esperar, tem uma atmosfera parecida com Portal, de onde o jogo abertamente tira inspiração e referências.

Tirando algumas questões de otimização, achei os desafios interessantes e em geral um joguinho que vale a pena, se estiver na promoção.

光と影を使った一人称のステージクリア型パズルゲーム。ルールは非常にシンプルで、「影を踏まないこと」ただ一つ。影に閉ざされた場所も移動可能な光源で照らしてやることで光の道を作ることができるので、どの光源をどの順番でどこに移動するか、が思考のポイントとなる。

パズルの難易度は比較的やさしめ。ステージは一望できるほどコンパクトで全体のギミックを見渡しやすいためプレイヤーが目標を定めやすく、また明快なルールと、操作できる光の「直進性」が考え方をシンプルにしてくれる。

クリアまで4時間ほど。パズルの解法には無理がなく自然で、特別なひらめきも必要としないため謎解き感はなく、合理的な思考のみで答えにたどり着けるのでパズルゲームとしての質は高い。ややギミックの種類が少なく単調になりがちだが、その分悩む時間も短く、次々とステージをクリアしていけるので爽快感は強い。一人称パズル初心者向きの内容ではあるが「Portal」の小ネタが仕込まれていたりするので、かつての名作パズルで腕を鳴らした人でも楽しめる良作。

Lightmatter : un jeu brillant dans l'esprit "Portal" à la première personne dans lequel on doit s'échapper d'un complexe technologique où une expérience secrète a mal tournée...

Nous sommes donc dans un casse-tête immersif où il faut éclairer son chemin avec des spots et des cristaux lumineux car chaque zone d'ombre est mortelle !
Le principe est vraiment original et nous fait chauffer le cerveau à plus d'une reprise car positionner les lumières au bon endroit demande réflexion et patience.

Coté graphique, le choix du style minimaliste industriel est très efficace car l'environnement est relativement sombre et par conséquent plus stressant.

Coté sonore, la musique de fond correspond parfaitement à l'atmosphère stressante des lieux mais la voix OFF du directeur des lieux est parfois agaçante car ce dernier nous observe et commente tous nos faits et gestes...

Si vous aimez les casse-têtes façon Portal, vous adorerez ce Lightmatter. D'ailleurs on retrouve quelques clins d'œil à Portal et aux laboratoires Aperture dans le jeu.

Fini en 8 heures en prenant tout mon temps.

Je recommande évidemment ce jeu ;)

This is a relatively short game with excellent graphics and story writing. The puzzles are amusing and interrupted from time to time with timed sections of obstacles. Some eye-hand coordination required, but most emphasis is on reasoning and puzzle solving. It would have been nice to have decision points that could split the storyline and allowed for more gameplay.

Так как при оценке чего-либо, что мне в целом понравилось, я обычно разбираю в первую очередь минусы, чтобы поскорее с ними закончить и завершить обзор на хорошей ноте - с них и начну.

[spoiler]Главгад регулярно упоминает про какое-то "спасение мира" и необходимость в его "инновационном" источнике энергии, однако мир за пределами комплекса не раскрыт примерно никак. Здесь прям заметно ощущается нехватка минимально необходимого лора, хоть в катсцене, хоть в записках, хоть как. Банальное "Ядерная война, вирусы и трам пам пам" уже дало бы антагонисту по крайней мере минимально понятную мотивацию, а не "Ну он плохой потому что потому". Троп с поехавшим ученым, поставившим науку выше морали, избит уже всеми, кем только можно. Троп с "помогатором", который в середине-конце якобы внезапно на самом деле оказывается врагом, избит не меньше. Избит не в последнюю очередь Порталом, настолько любимым разработчиками, что отсылки на него раскиданы каждые несколько метров. Спасибо, я с первого раза понял отсылку, в первый раз действительно было забавно, да, но не надо мне в каждой комнате пихать то радио с песней из концовки первой части, то модельку турели. В какой то момент это начинает уже не раздражать, а бесить. Если шило в одном месте - так положите на какой-нибудь стол монтировку из Халвы, хоть какое то разнообразие будет. А так это похоже уже не на отсылки, а на агрессивный маркетинг. С главным героем ситуация не лучше. То он инспектор, то журналист, то шпион. До самого конца ждал, когда же выстрелит это чеховское ружье о том, кем же на самом деле является протагонист. Вот только порох отсырел, да и сам патрон холостой оказался. Зачем было нагнетать интригу и заставлять игрока думать, за кого же мы играем, если все равно раскрывать это не собираетесь - непонятно. Это, пожалуй, самый жирный минус. Терпеть не могу истории, которые вот так обрываются. Может, это в какой то секретной комнате в какой то пасхалке и раскрыли, но при обычном прохождении вы это не узнаете, как не узнал и я. В общем за сюжетом вам явно не сюда, если хотите сюжет - пройдите лучше тот же Портал, там он хотя бы целостный.[/spoiler]

Про музыку ничего особо сказать нельзя. Не запоминается, но и не раздражает. Геймплей разбавляет и на том спасибо.

В условиях ограниченного бюджета идея сделать подобную стилизацию оказалась действительно удачной. На протяжении большей части игры используются в основном лишь 3 цвета - черный, белый и синий. При этом как таковых текстур почти нет, есть лишь контурная обводка, из-за чего игра выглядит максимально просто, но при этом максимально стильно. Это и в концепцию игры вписывается, и просто приятно смотрится.

Вот это именно то, ради чего, в отличие от сюжета, играть стоит. Концепт здесь действительно оригинальный - смесь из "пол это лава" и головоломки, для прохождения которой эту самую "лаву" нужно убирать при помощи света - прожекторов, фотонных установок и прочих приблуд. Куда свет попадает - там безопасно, откуда его убрали - туда наступать нельзя. При этом источников света обычно мало, поэтому нужно думать, как и в каком порядке их расставлять, чтобы не расплавиться в тени, исполняющей здесь роль лавы. Сложность здесь тоже весьма грамотно подобрана - не невозможно, но голову поломать приходится. Жутко фрустрирующих уровней здесь всего пара, в остальных баланс сложности подобран отлично. Проходится игра за один весьма плотный вечер. Хотелось бы, конечно, больше контента, но, наверное, решение не растягивать прохождение все же верное.

Несмотря на дырявый сюжет - внимания игра явно заслуживает. Задумка весьма необычная, любителям головоломок понравится. Стоит не сильно дорого (по крайней мере по скидке), проходится недолго, так что поиграть стоит.

Apart for the setting (aka the science facility and being spoken through the facility’s speakers by a Glados like antagonist) I can’t really compare it to Portal that much, in a matter of fact the puzzles remind me more of Talos Principle. So I would say it’s a mix of those 2.

So, in this game you have to navigate around shadows which damage and kill you, hence you gotta use the light. I didn’t found the puzzles to be that hard, they grow in difficulty ofc, but for me they kept at a medium-hardish level at most, bit easy but enjoyable.

I ain’t got much to say, the game its just good enough, if steam had ratting system I would give it a solid 7/10. I recommend for any enthusiast of fist-person puzzlers, BUT even I don’t think its worth the full price of 20$ for that price you can grab both Portals, or one of the Talos games during a sale, but if you can find it during a sale or bundle, its worth it.

Very good puzzle game with fun parkour. The level design is excellent and the story is interesting....but the game launcher is useless and actually bugs my windows 11 computer by adding a weird overlay that flickers even after the game has closed. Only way to get rid of it is too restart the PC. There were a couple of crashes but save points are pretty good so wasn't a big problem.

This review is only for the demo. I have not bought the full game and I do not plan on doing it anytime soon. I only recommend the demo.
One thing I liked was that despite being a lot like Talos with its laser tools, the spotlights obviously shed light on a bigger area when placed further back. So it's not just a clone of fps puzzle games before it, it builds on top of them.
But the cons, big sigh:
There's no reason for this game to melt my pc while in the menu still, after having turned all graphics to low. Had to turn to discussions to figure out unlimited fps is an issue with this game, which has not been addressed yet at the time of the review. Graphics low+unlimited fps=bad. graphics high+60fps=playable. MK.
Can't change binds and for some reason not only space makes my character jump, but shift as well. V hard to shake FPS muscle memory and not accidentally press shift when trying to sprint, then ending up jumping instead. When trying to sprint from a standstill, this makes me jump up in the same spot. Odd, odd choice of a bind set in stone.
Just a waste of time searching the menu and the internet for the best way to play, graphics and binds wise.
Inconsistent when it comes to the area which you can safely stand on, when close to a dangerous part of the floor. I got used to dying a lot due to this, but I cannot get used to the personality of the CEO. I go to video games to forget about the real world. Today's real world is full of toxicity. I don't need to be treated like this in a video game, as well. Sure, some games put you in a hard spot, but you persevere and feel good about yourself for doing so. Here, the put downs are constant and it's just not fun for me. If it was a drill sergeant and I was in training, sure, this attitude would not feel out of place. And the snarky remarks are just not funny.
If they ever fix this game's performance, binds, and make the dangerous (read: deadly) pixels more consistent, I would consider this on a sale.

Years ago i randomly found this game and gave it a try cuz it had a free demo. Immediately fell in love with it. I really like the concept of using light sources to illuminate a safe path for you to walk on (floor is lava = darkness consumes you)

Game has many references to Portal and Aperture. It is a chill puzzle/strategy game.
Some puzzles really got me stuck but i was never frustrated.

Donc c'est un non catégorique, surtout qui fait ça, lancer le jeu sur steam et c'est un launcher qui se lance pas le jeu.

A wonderful first person puzzle game, on par with the likes of the Portal series. Some of the puzzles were tricky, but nothing that made me feel completely lost on what to do. Checkpoints are incredibly generous too, which in a game where a mistake will kill you, is very appreciated.

Narration was wonderful, comedy overall was very good, with some misses here and there. Story was good and interesting. Nothing super special or mind-blowing, but definitely worth paying attention to.

Biggest issue is the length. Took me about 4 hours to complete the story, almost 5 for 100% of the achievements. Full price might be a bit too steep for that, but on any kind of sale I would say it is very worth it.

Одна из лучших Портал-like игр. Умные головоломки, продуманный дизайн уровней, уникальная механика со светом, отличная комфортная графика, сюжет, прекрасная озвучка, стоит пару евро по скидке. Из минусов - иногда не срабатывают прыжки и изредка дропается фпс из-за множества визуальных эффектов, но не критично. Головоломки не суперпростые, но и не особо сложные, игра не душнит: все довольно логично.

It is the style of game I like but does have timed puzzles and I get frustrated with timed puzzles. I mean puzzles that have to be solved in a timely manner or you can not pass. I guess Portal has those too but still would love to see puzzles games with out them.

Fun game, albeit not quite great. At the point where you'd expect to get a tad more advanced puzzles, the game suddenly falls flat on its face. Ending just sucks, it's completely off beat with the rest of the game.

Can't recommend getting this at full price, but the first ~90% of the game is well worth playing through when the it's on sale.

Really great game. I like the art style, the story is fun, the puzzles and overall concept are great. I think it was a little too short though, it could have easily been double the length. Halfway through you discovery a second style of puzzle involving a different light tool and I expected there would be one or two more after that, but nope. Even taking your time you will likely finish the game in about 2 or 3 hours, maybe a little less. Still a game worth your time, but I think at $20 it should have been longer. If ever on sale for $10 its 100% worth it.

Nettes kleines Rätselspiel mit interessantem Look. Nichts Besonderes, aber auch nicht schlecht
gemacht. Ziemlich kurz, aber es würde sich vermutlich irgendwann alles zu sehr wiederholen. Hab mich recht gut unterhalten gefühlt auch wenn die Rätsel für meinen Geschmack etwas zu leicht gewesen sind. Kann man durchaus machen, aber nicht zum vollen Preis !!!

I Loved this game BUT… (… See below). It is my type of puzzle solving game. good environment, story, voice acting. progressing developing of difficulty. Use of logic and special layout.
(It is very Portal like.) I will look for more games by them.

HOWEVER; THE ONE BIG DISAPPOINMENT is that final level is just a timed jumping puzzle that abandons all the tools and puzzle style of everything that came before it. One where just hundreds of repeated attempts are necessary to find the exact timing. (I basically consider this lazy design). It’s like they hit the ‘lets just wrap this up” time in the project and this is a cheap way to make it the hardest level…. (especially after they created such great tools and scenarios up to this point. )
It is a great game. But I suggest you might want to google the cheat that lets you skip the final level. (and the fact that the cheat exists to bypass this level, says that they might have known this too…)

So yes, play it. just skip the final level. (you can still get the end story...)

Woah.. this is the closest to Portal (without portals) as I've so far from any puzzle games seen.
Outstanding writing (HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO MIMIC IT SO WELL?!!), fun puzzles (not too easy, not too hard), fun with the concept, always something new happening, concept evolving.
Great job.
Would love to see some sequel or a some other puzzler from you guys. (but maybe with a bit more advanced graphics this time, hehe)

Clever concept and level design. Feels like a mix of Q.U.B.E. and Portal, though more like Portal overall. Difficulty falls somewhere between these two games.

I had no issues with framerates on an i9-10850K / RTX 3080 rig.

Stability is fine if you just play the game as is, but it's somewhat temperamental if you do anything else while playing. I experienced some crashes when quitting the game and also using ALT + TAB to swap to my desktop and back. If you enable speedrun stats in the extras menu while in a level, it can also crash. Overall, experienced about 10 crashes due to issues like this in my entire playthrough. Fortunately, due to near-constant auto-saving no progress was lost and it didn't ruin the experience.

Si disfrutaste con Portal ó The Entrophy Centre, con este también lo harás. Porque sigue el mismo patrón (Incluso hacen bromas sobre ello) : Pocos elementos simples que se combinan de forma endiablada para crear puzzles en los que al quedar atascado tendrás que plantearte qué funcionamiento de esos elementos estas dando por supuesto, habitaciones selladas al pasar tú, revisión original de su ambientación y buena historia guiada por gracioso personaje "peculiar" de moral dudosa.
También usa alguna mecánica parecida a The Talos Principle (Por suerte no el transfondo de la historia).

Por contra se me ha hecho más corto y menos complejo.
Y la reflexión velada a la energía nuclear que hace el final del juego me parece una falacia, por reducir la situación a dos opciones simplonas, aunque sin llegar al extremo de las historias yanquis.

Good game, but like many puzzle games, a little shorter than I would like. Took me 5-ish hours to beat the first playthrough, though I missed a decent amount of acheivements.

Puzzles, are excellent, a mix of figuring out where to move things plus the order of doing it, and a few sections of platforming requiring normal human levels of timing.

Plot is a bit predictable, but you don't play this game for the plot. The voice work is good and they make some fun Portal references.

For a puzzle game, 8/10.

A delightful mind challenging love letter to Portal. Well balanced, VERY polished, no annoyances, no irritations, pure puzzling with seldom jumping races to dilute the otherwise purely intellectual game play. Perhaps dialogues... or better say monologues, could have been slightly more interesting, or maybe there could be less of them, or the voice actor could be slightly more involved in what he was reading, but that's nitpicking. Great job and highly recommended to anyone who enjoyed Portal 1 and 2. Hope the developer keeps making games, they are definitely great at it.

Game is great. Difficulty raises across the levels. Many puzzles require thinking out of the box. But there is one negative item - you need to change one value using UnityAssetBundleExtractor in game's files in order to play it smoothly. Otherwise a game feels like unstable 30 fps/30Hz. After changing the proper value as described in the tutorial on the steam discussion site, everything works smoothly on stable 240fps/240hz. Shame on developers/studio that they didn't fix that. Without it the game is barely playable because my eyes were hurt after 5 minutes.

some nice "floor is lava" puzzles to solve using a couple tools for directing light.
unfortunately the visual design lets it down, a messy environment of random scattered items, while bathed in a near black and white lighting throughout, leaving little of it to be interesting to look at, and most of it being unpleasant to look at.
audio design is also disappointing, leaving you without a sense of having a real presence, feels like you're just floating around silently.
some frustrations from accidental death when looking around while holding a pylon and accidentally severing the connection.
will keep an eye out for a sequel, as I feel there's a solid foundation they can build upon!

"LightMatter" where.... Light Matters...
You first start off in this almost like "Portal" puzzle game where you are on a dying installation as if it is almost on the verge of collapse. As you progress in the game you are found with someone on the commentary as you complete each and every puzzle. Almost identical to the other game title, however they are just missing the mark of where portal had it right.

Like any other game as you progress new and different challenges persist and you must complete them, with this games almost "Borderlands" graphics where everything is a blotch but makes sense and looks good on how they did it. The key to puzzle end-ever is that you must stay with in the light at all times. If you do not, the floor acts as lava. and you lose... If you fall... you lose. The really great thing about this is that your last jump before you fall is the last save so that way you do not have to waste time getting to where you were on the puzzle to continue a new angle on how to complete it.

They do make a reference in game about aperture science as a pun, however again it just seems to miss the target ever so slightly to where its just a bad joke being told.

In my opinion, I would not buy this game at the full asking price. I would most definitely what for a good sale for this if you are looking into it, or even see if you can get it for free on a event maybe.

Short Portal-like experience.

Very nice puzzle game, original ideas and puzzles around the light mechanic, something we never seen before.

+ Level design is great, fair and challenging. (Could be nice if get more new maps like a new DLC)
+ Visual design is kinda simplistic with borderlands style touch but for what this game is fits quite nice.
+ Soundtracks fit well the situation you are in so they are quite well done.
+ Performance is also great, no lags, no crashes, no framedrops, most likely all PCs can run it without issues.
+ Cool easter eggs and references to other games like portal, we all love portal so love to see those.

Definetly if you like puzzles its a great game to try, quite enjoyed it.

The trailer doesn't quite do it justice! Great portal-like game! (If you like this I also recommend The Entropy Centre), The central antagonist is REALLY well written, and this game (especially late-game) does a great job of getting you to think! Not just about the puzzles, but also about perspectives and philosophy (not in a preachy or pretentious way though). To a degree, the story feels like a microcosm of modern politics.

A very fun little puzzle game trying its best to emulate a portal like expereince. While it misses the mark on getting to an Aperture level of puzzle design, the story itself is fun and the puzzles are engaging, I liked the mechanics with the shadows and the light, had me stumped a few times with a few fun moments of realization. I'd recommend it but you can probably finish this game in an afternoon.
