Tak w skrócie to ta gra polega na skakaniu kangurem i grubasie, którego jedyną kwestią jest powtarzanie w kółko coś o 3000 dukatów. Poza tym mój czas reakcji jest na tyle wolny, że potrafiłem siedzieć nad jednym etapem poziomu z dobre 15 minut, aż moje neurony w końcu się połączyły i umożliwiły mi przejście poziomu.

Sinceramente, meu primeiro PS2 veio esse jogo em capa de plástico preta e original. Joguei o mesmo com 5 anos de idade em 2010 e nunca tirei ele da cabeça, posteriormente outras vezes que tive oportunidade de ter um PS2, sempre tentei acha-lo mas nunca encontrei o mesmo pirata em feiras de venda de jogos. Em 2019 por ventura fiquei sabendo que um novo jogo estava sendo feito, e meses depois foi anunciado a trilogia na steam, sem pensar duas vezes, comprei os jogos e um controle pra pc para jogar na batata que eu tinha na época. Podem falar o que for do jogo, pra mim é imbatível, tudo nele é bom, principalmente se levarmos em consideração por ser um jogo de 2003 (23 anos atrás). Único defeito? Ser tão pequeno... Jogo 1000/10, com certeza irei levar para vida, uma experiencia totalmente diferente para quem tem nostalgia.

OG 3D platformer. Sadly, the game slipped under my radar and I never had the pleasure of playing it back in the day so this was my first time. It's pretty good at the beginning but towards the end it has some really annoying parts, like the flying. My only other complaint is that when I move my analog stick at a certain angle, Kao starts walking for a brief second instead of running all the time which makes some of the levels impossible to beat with a controller but keyboard works just fine. Quite mediocre overall but the game is cheap so for price it's worth giving a try if you're even remotely interested in platformers.

Pretty timeless 3D collectathon platformer that feels good and lowstakes. I didn't grow up with this one but it does remind quite a bit of the titles I did grow up with from the respective genre. Works great on Steamdeck.

Frustrating platforming, there's annoying Temple Run sections in every level, "hidden" mechanics - meaning you aren't told how things work until you do them, and sparse checkpoints. I keep trying to come back to this game with an open mind, and by that I mean uninstalling and re-installing. This game is disappointing every time I try.

The thing that made me quit last time was the Temple Run section in the forest being outrunned by the bear. It tok me almost 20 different attempts to win. This time it was a "shoot this rock at the balloons to help you get across" puzzle and that particular puzzle made me question why I was wasting my time on this awful game.

Gra z tamtej epoki. Nigdy w nią nie grałem, wolałem np Crash'a, Spyro itp. Czuć że była robiona mniejszym kosztem, ruchy postaci są niespójne, niekoherentne. Brak w wielu lokalizacjach pomysłu na ich rozwinięcie. Fabuła tak szczątkowa i tak płytka że ręce opadają. Pozycja nostalgiczna, bądź do nadrobienia zaległości w klasykach. Ogólnie polecam ale bez wielkiego entuzjazmu.

- Buen doblaje al español.
- Sencillo, pero entretenido.

- Siempre pregunta al principio del juego si quieres cambiar la resolución y el idioma en lugar de arrancar y si quieres, luego cambiarlo.
- El apuntar con el boomerang sigue siendo igual de malo que en el original.
- Algunas texturas siguen siendo de las original y se nota MUCHO la diferencia.

Es un buen plataformas 3D de la época. Desde luego, si eres fan del género, es un buen juego para probar.

Kao Round 2 was part of my childhood. I played it multiple times on PS2, replayed levels to collect every coin, every emerald, and tried to complete everything 100%. Like many childhood games, there were levels that felt impossible back then, and revisiting them years later shows how much perspective changes with time.

Recently I picked it up again on Steam, mostly for nostalgia and to complete the achievements.

First, the positive:
The Steam version received a noticeable visual upgrade. Textures are sharper, the game looks cleaner than the PS2 version, and overall it aged better than I expected. It definitely feels old, but not in a painful way.

The gameplay itself is simple.
The puzzles are basic.
Combat is straightforward.
Bosses are easy once you understand their patterns.

It’s clearly designed for a younger audience. Dialogue is simple, story is simple, characters are animal-focused and lighthearted. There’s no deep narrative or complex mechanics here. It’s a classic early-2000s platformer with a very direct structure.

However, it’s also limited.

The game is short.
There’s not much depth.
Once you finish it, there’s little reason to return beyond nostalgia or achievements.

There are also technical issues on the PC version. The camera can bug when using a controller, especially during combat when throwing projectiles. It affects precision and makes certain encounters more frustrating than they should be. This wasn’t something I remember being an issue back in the PS2 era.

Kao was never as big as Jak, Ratchet & Clank, or Crash Bandicoot. It doesn’t reach that level of polish or identity. It has its own charm, but you need to go into it with the right expectations. If you expect something on the level of the major platformer franchises, you will be disappointed.

If you approach it as a nostalgic early-2000s platformer with simple mechanics and light fun, it works.

Первые часов 5 было лампово, ведь, несмотря на свою корявость, базовая платформенная механика глубже, чем в том же мемном «Шреке 2», который я время от времени перепрохожу. У игры присутствует яркая атмосфера старых 3D-платформеров эпохи PS2, где каждая игра старалась удивлять разнообразием локаций, противников и механик на вооружении у очередного персонифицированного зверька — маскота серии.

Пока мы бегаем за нашего кенгурёнка Као и собираем монеты — игра работает, даже фаново было смотреть на убогие 3D-модельки местных бобров или на то, как среди задников затесался сплошной JPEG леса и деревьев. Из особых приёмов Као может крутиться как шар и бить хвостом в воздухе круговой атакой. По мере прохождения нам начинают подбрасывать новые способы перемещения (геймплейные модификаторы) и способности, как, например, бросок орешка на дистанцию олимпийца. И чем дальше, тем чаще и разнообразнее становятся эти модификаторы, что хорошо работало бы, если бы они имели сносное управление и не ощущались как корявая поделка. Во второй половине игры появление каждого нового геймплейного элемента сопряжено с жгучей болью в заднице, и когда ты думаешь, что хуже подводных уровней по управляемости и техническому уродству уже не будет — тебя сажают на пеликана, грe`баное неуправляемое животное с ужасным откликом и невозможностью повернуться на месте, из-за чего ты постоянно падаешь.

Поймите меня правильно: сейчас эта игра едва ли заслуживает внимания и имеет лишь историческую ценность. Даже на момент выхода она ничем не выделялась, не вносила ничего нового и была максимально простым, детским проектом. Страшные модельки, безвкусная внешность главного героя (боксёрские трусы с перчатками? Ну ладно), ужасное управление и грубый платформинг, который плохо работает почти в каждом своём аспекте. Уровни на скейте сами по себе мусор, но они умудрились даже рельсовые сегменты похерить, а там в принципе надо нажимать лишь одну кнопку — но персонажа просто не подсоединяет к следующей рельсе после прыжка. Двойной прыжок оставляет игрока слишком долго в воздухе, что немного ломает тайминги некоторых платформ; как опция можно в прыжке ударить хвостом — ты удлинишь прыжок, без такой длительной задержки, однако это уже костыль для получения лучшей мобильности. Персонаж очень топорен, и при развороте на 360 градусов требует небольшой радиус, причём тут действует логика запоминания инпутов, а не действие «тут и сейчас», соответственно ты регулярно будешь катиться в неправильную сторону. Чаще всего у тебя есть контроль над камерой, хотя периодически его зачем-то забирают и уловить этот момент очень сложно и как следствие – ты улетаешь в пропасть или получаешь тычку от босса.

После смерти ты отправляешься на ближайшую КТ, но сохраняешь все собранные монетки и звёзды, что довольно спорный момент. С одной стороны, это значительно упрощает игру, но превращает её в череду накопительных попыток без какого-либо вызова, а иногда ты просто умираешь, дабы дособрать монетки по пути. Это сильно уродует игровой процесс и делает его не столь удовлетворительным. Спустя годы Kao the Kangaroo имеет неплохую картинку, ламповую атмосферу и приемлемую базовую механику, но из-за переизбытка недоработанных элементов, кривизна которых ближе к концу приключения только усиливается, игра вызвала у меня больше раздражения и разочарования — ну хотя бы платина изи.

Игра-легенда, покорившая мое сердце еще в далеком 2005-м году. Когда в стиме еще толком никто не сидел, все обменивались болванками и писали образы в Alcohol 120%. Эх, было же время...

Играем за кенгуренка-боксера Као. Я так понял, главным боссом является усатый браконьер с ружьем. По сюжету, он заточил в клетки друзей нашего кунгуренка - бобров, попугаев и черепах. Так вот, вам предстоит всех их спасти. А еще тут есть мужчины нелегкой судьбы (они выбрали вилку). Эдакий фейс-контроль. Вам придется отбашлять им пару сотен шекелей за вход на другую локацию. Вообще, на самом деле, эту игру я ставлю на один уровень с Ice Age 2 - Meltdown по степени уютности и позитива. Если у вас есть дети, можете им смело показать эту игру. Тут все по-доброму. Прошел за пару вечеров, чего и вам советую!

A competent platformer and a big improvement from the first game.

Kao's moveset noe has a double jump and a ground pound, punching and tail spinning feels better than before, the new boomerangs are a nice addition and the lack of a lives system makes the experience less frustrating.

Levels are still mostly corridors, but with some larger sections sprinkled here and there, Vehicles are back (and thank god they take multiple hits before breaking down) to provide some variety, along with a couple underwater sections.

Beside collecting coins necessary for progression, there are crystals and stars to collect: the former unlocks minigames in the hub world, while the latter improve Kao's abilities for every 50 you get, like gliding or a stronger tail spin.

One thing I didn't like were the high-speed sections, which are a bit annoying to control and get all the coins in since you're always facing the camera.

It's clearly made for a younger audience, but is still fun and a good time.

[i]I have since calmed down and have rewritten my review to be a lot more neutral. But even after thinking a lot about it, I myself did not have a good time playing this game.
It's not difficult at all, the levels are easy to navigate through and there is maybe two or three "secrets" when it comes to coins/crystals but it felt boring and frustrating.
But that is my personal experience, I can understand why people would love it who have nostalgia glasses on (I am like that myself when it comes to Crash Bandicoot) so make of this what you will :)

[h1] Kangurek Kao: Runda 2 mimo upływu lat, wciąż jest świetną platformówką. [/h1]

Muszę przyznać, że była to przyjemna odskocznia od dużych gier, tu po prostu przechodzisz poziomy i nie przejmujesz się statystykami, wyborami fabularnymi, czy zarządzaniem ekwipunkiem. Zrobienie 100% też nie stanowi problemu i robi się raczej naturalnie. Grę otrzymałem za darmo na jakiejś akcji Steama i dosyć długo czekała na odpowiedni moment w bibliotece.

[h2] P.S.: Wodne poziomy są okropne, ich największa zaleta jest taka, że nie ma ich za dużo :) [/h2]

*Gra ukończona w pełni na SteamDeck'u - oczywiście działa nienagannie, a niewielka rozdzielczość ekranu jest w tym przypadku na plus. Warto też zmienić schemat sterowania na ten ze społeczności bo oficjalny nie do końca działa. Muszę przyznać, że taka gierka na handheldzie przypomniała mi dawne czasy grania w platformówki na PSP - naprawdę świetna zabawa :)

Kao the Kangaroo, una aventura plataformera "clásica" del PS2

Para empezar, no tengo ni idea del porque reembolsé esto hace 5 años, no por que sea un juegazo, si no porque costó un misero dolar, andaba muy misio en aquel entonces parece.

Hablando ya del juego, como plataformero es divertido, al igual que Crash, BanjoKazooie, Spyro, comparte varias similitudes, frente a coleccionables y mecánicas. El diseño artístico del juego es bueno y disfrutable a pleno 2026 y lo que más me gustó fue que completar el 100% no es solo conseguir todo y ya, el juego también te recompensa por ir consiguiendo los coleccionables, sea con minijuegos o mejoras al personaje, lo último es mi favorito pues de la más versatilidad al juego. (Aunque con el giro bolita mejorada está muy fuerte)

Eso sí, tengo que resaltar algunos puntos no tan importantes pero que me han faltado, siendo es la banda sonora y la historia. La banda sonora para empezar se escucha excesivamente bajo, incluso con los efectos al 10% no se logra apreciar nada, además, la música suele fallar pero eso es por lo viejo que es el juego. Por otro lado, la historia es simple, pero rara, no es posible que un jefe te diga "¡Ja, ja, ja! No podrás vencerme, a no ser que dispares a mis téntaculos y luego me tires un torpedo", por último los dialogos son excesivamente lentos, es desesperante el silencio que se genera tras cada dialogo.

Esos errores se le pueden perdonar por ser un port del ps2 pero como juego plataformero lo recomiendo, es bueno, nostálgico y barato!

Spośród wszystkich legendarnych na polskim podwórku gier dzieciństwa, palców połamanych na platformowych [url=https://polish-abandonware.fandom.com/pl/wiki/Magiczna_Kula_Papatki]Papatkach[/url], mózgu powykręcanego na [url=https://zagrajwreksia.pl/]Reksiach[/url] i innych tego typu tytułach, Kangurek Kao ominął jakoś moje gamingowe doświadczenie, więc grę tę oceniam jako graczka po "pierwszym razie";
I muszę powiedzieć, że jak na pozycję 2003, gra w mojej ocenie bardzo dobrze się zestarzała i nadal bawi [i](i miejscami irytuje)[/i].

Poziomy są super, gra oferuje dużo różnorodnych doświadczeń i mechanik, począwszy od różnych rodzajów ataku, po bardzo zróżnicowane między sobą poziomy. Tu trochę parkoura, tam trochę wyścigu, sekwencje ucieczkowe, innymi słowy przygodówka pełną parą.
Są oczywiście elementy, które gorzej się zestarzały. Tryb celowania jest ciut toporny i nie zawsze łapie poprawnie przeciwników, punkty zapisu są ciut niewybaczające, kamera momentami buja gorzej, niż dziadek wiozący nas po wertepach na wsi; samo sterowanie czasami lepiej sobie tymczasowo podmienić, niż walczyć z wiatrakami i bezcelowo się wkurzać [i](tak, o ciebie chodzi, durny przycisku od celowania)[/i].
Cała sekcja poziomów w oceanie to jeden wielki koszmarek - począwszy od upiornego sterowania, po bardzo słaby projekt poziomów - na który polecam wyposażyć się w trochę więcej cierpliwości i meliskę pod ręką.

Moja jednoosobowa komisja pragnie także wręczyć statuetkę Dubbingu Roku 2003 Panu Zbigniewowi Konopka, który podkładał głos Żółwiowi [i](i Bobrowi także, ale to mniejsza)[/i]
Chociaż poziomy podwodne to jakaś tragedia, to jednak pieję jak kogut za każdym razem, gdy słyszę to pijane jojczenie żółwia xD

A fairly fun platformer with varied levels and pretty solid controls. Only complaints I can think of are that the camera can feel a bit wonky at times, and trying to collect everything can be a bother if you manage to get through an entire level and somehow miss a single coin or two. However, in the game's favor, everything you collect is kept even if you have to replay a level. Overall, not the best platformer out there, but still a nice treat to play through!

I'm sure this would be a fun game but the game doesn't recognize the directional pad on my controller, just the analog sticks. I prefer to move with the d-pad and assign any camera controls to the analog sticks. I know most people prefer to use the analog sticks to move, but I just don't and to not even have it as an option is a huge oversight in my view.

This is actually quite good platformer even now. Music and controls are nice and the story is okay, basic for platformers. Save your friends and beat the bad guys.

Boss fights are also great and they are quite hard actually. Collecting all the coins, stars and crystals is fun, but they don't have any purpose whatsoever. It would have been fun to have a shop in the hub world to buy some funky cosmetics or something. Controls and camera can be sometimes wonky and annoying, but they were fine most of the time.

I would have loved this when I was a kid, I used to play a lot of platformers like Croc, Rayman, Crash, Spyro.

Playing this now, I would say it's 6/10. <3

the gameplay is very fun and really simple yet fun combat, graphics are incredible for its time and able to please some peoples eyes in these times for its retro style. Audios are lovely and fun to lissen. The plot is the common rescue blank thing where you have to save your friends from the hunter, pretty basic but good enough. The levels are also fun and having a twist like you on one level you are running from a bear and the next one is your average platformer, and with this price i say that its a complete scam and the price should be higher (but i aint complaining)

Las hitboxes son malas, la mitad de veces que me morí fue porque me pegó algo invisible, los controles no están bien adaptados a pc, tiene mucho input lag, la historia y el doblaje de voz son pésimos, los niveles de agua son igual de divertidos que masticar tornillos y los bosses son excesivamente simples y repetitivos, completamente recomendado.

Edit: las "chase sequences" son horripilantes pq conduces en reversa sin poder ver donde tienes que ir, esto es incluso peor considerando el hecho de que es un juego de coleccionar y no puedes hacer backtracking, por lo que si se te pasó alguna moneda tienes que reiniciar todo el nivel para poder recogerla

Un jeu tout bonnement parfait.

Y ayant déjà joué dans les années 2000 sur CD-ROM, c'est avec joie que j'ai découvert son retour sur Steam ! Véritable retour en enfance avec un charme qui semble ne jamais s'être épuisé après toutes ces années.
Un gameplay coloré et fluide, accompagné de musiques entrainantes et d'un doublage français plein d'humour qu'on ne peut oublier. Les niveaux sont très variés avec parfois une difficulté qui donne du fil à retordre, si l'on prend en plus en compte les succès à déverrouiller.

Un vrai bonheur de voir une si belle licence qui continue à vivre à travers le temps.
Kao 2 est un intemporel à absolument découvrir.

[PL] Jakimś cudem pominąłem tą grę, w dzieciństwie. Co było trochę szkodą. Kangurek Kao: Runda 2, jest dużo lepsza niż pierwsza część. Widać w niej bardziej inspirację Rayman 2, aniżeli w jedynce, która bardziej przypominała mi gorszego Crash the Bandicoot.

Grafika jest bardzo ładna, oczywiście przedawniona, ale w stylizowanej grze to nie przeszkadza. Przynajmniej mi.

Muzyka i Dźwięki są dobre, nic specjalnego.

Sterowanie jest dobre, przynajmniej klawiaturą. Próbują grać kontrolerem, zauważyłem że ruch jest dziwny, gdzie przy próbie obrotu Kao, podczas ruchu, on zaczął chodzić na chwilę, by szybko powrócić do biegu, mimo tego, iż miałem drążek zawsze przechylony tak samo daleko.

Fabuła jest prosta, w końcu Kangurek Kao jest bardziej serią gier dla małych dzieci. Przez co też podkład głosowy jest tej jakości, typowej dla gier lub bajek dla dzieci.

Projekt poziomów był w większości dobry. Chociaż wszystkie poziomy gdzie się zjeżdżało, jechało czymś, lub uciekało przed czymś, mniej mi się podobały. Ale dalej te poziomy były dużo lepsze niż w pierwszym Kangurku Kao.

Walki z boss'ami też zostały wykonane dużo lepiej. Trochę za proste, ale przynajmniej bez kiepsko zrobionych mechanik, jak w jedynce.

W grze są dostępne mini gry, ale nie ma żadnych nagród za wygranie ich, są po prostu opcjonalnymi dodatkami do rozgrywki.

Ogólnie polecam tą grę. Jest krótka ale dobra.

[EN] I somehow skipped this game, in my childhood. Which was a bit of a pity. Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2 is much better than the first one. I could tell it had more of a Rayman 2 inspiration, than the first game, which for me, looked like a worse Crash the Bandicoot.

Graphics are very pretty, obviously outdated. But in stylized game, it does not matter, At least for me.

Music and souns are fine. Nothing special.

Controls are good, at least on keyboard. When I tried to play with a controller, I noticed a weird thing with movement. When I tried to turn Kao, while moving, he started walking for a while, to then quickly start running again, even though I was tilting the stick always the same amount.

Story is simple. At last, Kao the Kangaroo is a series of games, made mainly for kids. So the voice acting is also of the quality, that can be heard in other games and shows for smaller children.

The design of levels was mostly good. Although I wasn't so much of a fan of sliding, driving and chase levels. But they were still much better, than in the first Kao the Kangaroo.

Boss fights were also made much better. A bit too easy, but at least without badly made mechanics, like in the first game.

There are minigames available in the game, but there are no rewards for winning them. They're just there as some addition to the gameplay.

Generally, I can recommend this game. It's short, but good.

I love 3D, PS2 era platformers, but this one just doesn't cut it. This game is miles better then the first one. However there are still huge problems with the game. The biggest problem is the way the developers have made most of the maps. One word would be unpolished. You can end a climbing part of a map and at the end the developers have placed a shooting type of enemy that knocks you down. At the running/gliding maps where you just move the layout is almost always infuriating rather then fun. The jumps are often made so that you loose several times by default. You have infinite lives so the death doesn't matter. However the developers didn't ask themselves if it really is fun to restart a section of a map several times.

The whole game has many passages where the developers have favored strange difficulty spikes and punishing instant death traps/jumps that apparently takes priority over "fun".

不是，大家都能正常通关吗，为什么我第一次追逐战怎么跑都跑不过，中间没失误也没蹭到墙导致减速呀。而且我后面开ce齿轮试了下，开0.5倍数，角色速度明显慢于boss，追逐战刚开始跑直线没几秒就被boss抓住了，开2倍速角色速度就比boss快一点，boss怎么也追不上我，但我反应不过来跳陷阱，就好像人物速度会随着游戏速度而变化，但boss速度不变一样，这也太奇怪了。（鉴于是老游戏，我怀疑和帧数有关）

反正我是没法正常打通关了，而且短短半小时玩下来游戏有明显设计滞后问题。比如摇杆控制视角：①灵敏度没法调②上下移动默认反转没法改变（摇杆朝上，视角往相反方向飘）③左右视角微调，系统会往相反方向修正（往左转10°，系统自动往回调几度，看起来卡卡的）
手感僵硬，而且成就有好几个无伤成就，想想就折磨。剧情几乎没有，不过好在文本简单，小学生也能看明白，没中文不影响游玩。

So, fun fact, I actually beat this game before beating the first Kao game. However, I had to play this game like three or four times and take notes because I forgot how much stuff was in this game. So right now, I’m going to get this review over and done with and decide whether or not I like this game more than “Kao’s 1 or 3.”

Presentation

The presentation, in my opinion, is pretty good. However, there are some aspects that I was a bit mixed on. First, let’s start off with the good. Out of all the character designs in “Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2,” I kind of liked Kao’s design the most. I know in my “Kao 3” review I said I liked Kao’s design from the very first game more, but I do like his design here as well. I appreciate that he kind of looks like SNES’s Lil’ Mac from “Super Punch-Out!!” with the blue shorts and green shoes. Kao also has some funny and entertaining idle animations that will surely get a smile out of you. Kao’s English voice actor does a good job, but from my perspective, I found his voice acting a little inconsistent in some instances.

Speaking of voice acting, I found that most of the game’s voice acting to be mediocre at best and bad at worst. I don’t know what happened with the voice direction, but again, from my perspective, the voice acting felt bad. I also need to talk about the audio mixing because I noticed some weird quirks. Now I actually liked the soundtrack in this game, even though I found the boss music to be repetitive. However, while playing the first level after escaping the pirate ship, I noticed that the music either played really quietly or barely played at all. In “Kao 3,” I wished to see more enemy variety, and “Round 2” manages to accomplish that with pirates, enemy bees/wasps, gnomes with hammers, etc. I also failed to mention this but in “Kao 3,” the game’s language was primarily Polish dubbed with English subtitles in the re-release. It might have been my eyes playing tricks on me, but I thought the English dialogue might have been mistranslated because “Kao 3” looked like it had some grammar errors. Anyway, let’s move on before I talk about “Kao 3” too much.

Gameplay

If you have played “Round 2’s” predecessor, you’d probably know that Kao’s moveset in “Kao 1” was cumbersome to understand. However, the developers decided to look at the mistakes made in the first game and refine his moveset in “Round 2.” You now have a three-hit combo like what you see in SM64. You also have the tail attack (which can also function as an extra jump), a double jump, and boomerangs. The heart, which also functions as a health meter has been replaced with a standard-looking health bar. There is also no “lives” system like in the first game, thank goodness. Despite the fact that Kao’s moveset has been refined in “Round 2,” I found this game’s combat to be the weakest part of this game. Speaking of combat, if you hold down the right bumper button on your gamepad (which I highly recommend if you are playing this game on PC), Kao will strafe from side-to-side, and when you press the north/throw button, you can throw boomerangs at not just normal enemies, but also ones who shoot projectiles. I know Nitro Rad has already drawn comparisons between this game and “Rayman 2: The Great Escape,” but the way Kao strafes just reminds me of “Rayman 2’s” combat. I know I have complained about combat in platformers but at least “Rayman 2’s” combat was less common and was much better than “Round 2’s.”

Unlike “Kao 1,” “Round 2” feels like a collect-a-thon like “Rayman 2.” However, instead of yellow lums and cages, you collect coins/ducats, purple crystals, and stars. One of the best parts about this game is that you don’t need to collect everything to beat the game. All you need is 3000 ducats to beat the game. As for the crystals, they’re only used for unlocking bonus levels/mini-games. The five mini-games are jumping rope, creating a path for Kao, shooting balloon cannons, pelican racing enemies, and baseball. To be honest, I was not the biggest fan of these mini-games, and as far as I know, I did not unlock anything for playing these. Funny enough, I looked up a video that showed all the mini-games and there is actually an exploit where you have to carefully jump on one of the ledges in the “Dark Docks,” the game’s hub world, and jump through the window of the area that requires 250 crystals. If you wonder what the stars do, you can think of them as like EXP or manly points from the “SpongeBob Movie” game. If you collect 50 stars at a time, you can improve the efficiency of one of Kao’s abilities, like having a shockwave for Kao’s butt-bounce. Before moving on, I need to talk about this game’s movement. Kao does move faster than in “Kao 1” but when you double jump, it kills your momentum. Your improved tail-attack also kills your momentum if you only jump once.

The snowboard and boat sections are back but thankfully; these only happen once. However, I hated snowboarding in “Kao 1,” still hate it now. Thank goodness you don’t die instantly if you crash into things. The developers also decided to only have the boat section as a mini-game to get 1000 ducats, so I’ll give them credit for that. They also bring the speed hopping power-up back for when you have to outrun hazards, like in “Crash Bandicoot.” This is probably going to sound meaningless, but I need to talk about this. In the “Kao” games it is implied that Kao can’t swim in water, like with SpongeBob, Crash, Sonic, and even Sly Cooper. Sure, you can also say that Luigi once said he can’t swim, but that was in the anime, “The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach!” However, in “Hostile Reef,” he can swim? I don’t know, I don’t know what the heck is going on here. Anyway, there are some secret areas you can find to get extra ducats, crystals, and stars.

Throughout my time playing this game, the performance was stable overall. I hardly encountered any frame rate dips, and I had a good time.

Final Verdict

So, now that I finally made a review on “Round 2,” do I like this game more than “Kao 1” and “Kao 3?” Well, yes I do, but there were some gameplay ideas that I was not a fan of. However, I do not hate Kao, the character, or the “Kao” series. I once said in my “Kao 3” review that I do believe that Tate Multimedia does have some talented developers. If there is one thing “Round 2” has taught me, it’s that these games do have the potential to be great games and they can be greater than the sum of their parts. However, with careful planning, the “Kao” series can be something special. Despite my gripes with “Round 2,” I genuinely enjoyed it the more I played. Well, with three classic “Kao” games finished, all that’s left is the “Kao Reboot” or “Kao the Kangaroo 2022.” So, let’s see what this kangaroo’s reboot game has in store for us.

하, 플레이하기 전에 가이드에 있는 [b]치트 코드[/b]를 보고 '아, 이 게임 치트 있으니 도전과제 따기 쉽겠네?' 라고 생각한 내가 어리석었다. 분명 '코인 개수'랑 '보스 한 대도 안 맞고 격파' 도전과제는 치트를 활용하면 쉽고 빠르게 달성 가능하다. 근데 그게 무슨 대수란 말인가. 빌어먹을 '스테이지에 존재하는 모든 코인, 크리스탈, 별을 획득하라(전체 스테이지)' 도전과제를 결국엔 직접 처음부터 해야 하는데 말이야. 명심하자, 모든 스테이지의 수집품을 저절로 다 채우는 치트는 없다. 진심, 두 눈 존‏‎‏‎‏‎‏‎나 크게 뜨고, 카메라 수동으로 이리저리 돌려가면서 하나하나씩 수집품 먹어나가야 된다. 시‏‎‏‎‏‎‏‎발, 만약에 스테이지 끝났는데 결과창에서 [i]〔119/120〕[/i] 이렇게 뜬다? 얄짤 없이 그 스테이지 처음부터 해야 된다. 게다가 어디서 놓쳤는지도 확실히 모른다는 그 막막함이란··· 후, 이 '모든 수집품 모으기' 도전과제만 없었어도 엄지 무조건 치켜세웠을텐데 말이야.

I got this game when it was free, I think it was a promotion they were doing or something. I didn't know anything about this series so it was my first time experiencing it, uploaded my first playthrough on YouTube and honestly its pretty good. I went and played the rest of the series after this and I think it is the best the series has to offer. Yes, I'm saying its better than the recent reboot as well. Not that the other games are bad (except maybe 3), just that I had the most fun playing this one.
