Still one of my favorite VR experiences. The scale, the atmosphere, the boss fights, all great. This felt like a dream come true for my inner child from the 90s, wondering what video games would be like in the future.
fun hoverboard grapple game
Late to the party, but even now, with the game being so old, it's still easily one of my top 3 VR experiences ever.
A game that can best be described by looking at the title.
"What is Jet Island?"
Well there's an Island. And you jet around on it.
Sarcasm aside, few games really do a good job of presenting scale like this. Jet Island is massive, you swing, surf, and uh..well jet across a massive terrain with a surprising amount of verticality. Unlockable powerups and modifiers are spread throughout the area as well as a few bosses and secrets to explore. There's also a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ huge worm flying around overhead that took me a bit to realize was the final boss. I thought it was just for show but nope, you've gotta jet your whole ass island up there too.
If Jet Island did anything poorly, it's the minimalist approach to everything meant it did not really describe -what- your goal actually is in the game. Even a pop up that said "Hey maybe check out those big red lights coming from the ground" would have been something. I actually put it down for a few weeks the first time I tried it, after 40 minutes of flopping around on a hoverboard I got frustrated and assumed I had bought another sandbox game. But no, there's actual stuff to do! The game just does a poor job of directing you to it.
So, Jet Island. If you have strong VR legs, or you're willing to put yourself to the test in a fast paced movement based VR game? This is the one. Love it.

Jet Island has game demo vibes and is over-priced. Nevertheless, I recommend it as it is the only game filling a certain niche.
What niche is that? Its the one where you combine the level design of Sonic (loops, corkscrews), Halo (the geometric structures) and 'babie's first terrain generator' (everything else) with hoverboards, jetpacks, grapple hooks, and a fear of heights.
The grapple is for changing direction. The jet packs are for gaining elevation and making adjustments to speed/direction. The hoverboard is to make everything impossible.
I may be skill/imagination limited, but the vast majority of the environment seems to have no function--the loops and ramps mostly seem to be the product of the idea of 'wouldn't it be cool if...' The result is game demo vibes.
The viewing distance is outrageously good and the performance is great. The worm in the sky is a marvel. The islands high in the sky are probably sick, but I'll never see them up close. The textures are blurrier than my uncorrected myopia and I'm legally blind.
I feel like the game would be boring for anyone lacking a crushing fear of heights or a fetish for minute angle calculations at 150 mph.
For me: it's a lot of fun but I can only play for 15 minutes at a time because every fall from a high place kills my heart a little.
My only real gripe with this game is that there isn't more of it.
This game often requires you to turn your head while looking up at extreme angles to be able to see where you need to get to. I felt I was at risk of straining or injuring my neck while playing this game. This is definitely only for people who have strong and flexible necks that they can twist and turn constantly without feeling uncomfortable.
Definitely in my top 3 VR games, the speed is one of the best in VR or flatscreen alike.
Although I did refund this game, this game is criminally underrated. Probably the best speed/traversal game u can get, and it does it very well. It has fantastic vibes too. Overall, it's worth a buy, u won't spend A LOT of time but it's a good game to relax and drift through the open world, and it's amazing to do that too.

The graphics might look a bit dated, but wow does it feel good to play.
The learning curve is there, but after some upgrades and practise you will put tarzan to shame.
When I came across my first boss it felt so huge! And to still be able to beat him felt mighty.

Fantastic! You really need your VR legs, but if you're comfortable with high-intensity VR games, absolutely give this a try. The sensations of zooming and swinging around the place are unmatched. It's a little ugly and a little janky, being a first-gen VR game, but don't let that stop you. Embrace the aesthetic, become one with your board, and zooooooooom!

Got my headset yesterday, got Jet Island last night, didn't boot it until the morning after, hungover to hell and back.
The effort of holding in the poop in my butt was counterbalanced perfectly by the effort it took not to fall over because it literally feels like you're standing on a plank of wood with a nail sticking out of it getting launched across the landscape through the air over an extremely narrow bridge while a giant robot dragon curlicues a thousand nautical miles overhead.
10/10, can't believe we evolved from monkeys, because this game makes me feel like a caveman.
I genuinely don't know how this isn't considered a VR classic. This is up there as one of my favorite VR titles. Even better in CO-OP. I wouldn't recommend it if you have a tendency to get motion sick in VR, but damn is it good if you can handle the movement.

Literally nothing else is like this game. FPS+Z in a first person VR is an amazing experience. There should be more games like this, but for game over 6yrs old at this point, nothing compares to the exhilaration of what i can best describe as: low poly futuristic snowboarding with wrist mounted jetpacks.
This is one of the coolest VR games ever made. I wish there was more.

Great, fast, shoot, fun.
This is one of the easiest games to get drawn into and is what VR is made for. The freedom to go anywhere, to see ominous creatures or gigantic floating islands when you first jump in and then slowly unlock the ability to go further and challenge more is top-shelf. As mentioned, you get stronger and more capable as the game progresses but none of this game felt like a grind - its a game where if it took more then 2 minutes to log into another account to load my save game versus start over, i have still started over - the gameplay and the process are tons of fun. The motion may take some getting used to if you are new to VR but its worth it.
Play this game. It gets very fun traversing the large map after a few upgrades

If you have a VR headset, and you have solid VR legs, this game is a must-have. Even years after release, it's still one of the best VR titles I've played, which truly utilizes the VR hardware and technology, and pushes the limits of what a VR gaming experience should be like.
The game is about movement. It's about speed. It's about riding your friction-less hoverboard across a huge, handcrafted landscape, blasting off massive jumps, using your rocket hands to fly through the air at 300mph, and exploring cool secrets hidden throughout the world. Games are about gameplay, and this game understands fun gameplay with VR technology.
And it feels GOOD. The controls feel right. The use of VR feels natural, intentional. Like this game was truly made for the VR technology.
Spend some time building up your VR tolerance, and then give this a try. So cool.
I have about 500 hours playing VR games, and this is the only one that I've remembered because of how fun and engaging the experience is. For me it captured the feeling of wonder experienced in older games, and I hope it does the same for you.
Seems simple. Very NOT. You can get lost (and I do mean lost) in this incredible world for hours, even though there's honestly not much here.
And then I found out the underside is a world unto its own. Then all those floating isles. I've barely scratched the surface.
I really wish you could control the board by leaning to simulate a surf/snow board though. That would take the controls to a whole other level of fluid.
If you have VR and still not play this masterpiece than you should try it right away!
It's thrilling, fun and easy learn but it'll takes some time to master all of the mechanics.

Through the years of dusting off my VR and going through my library, Jet Island stands the test of time and remains as one of my favorite VR games to play.
The movement may take a minute to get used to, but once you get it down it's hard not to get sucked into this game. The landscape you traverse on your hover board provides both challenging parkour elements and puzzles that never overstay their welcome. The goal of Jet Island is clear and concise. Explore the island, take down bosses, acquire upgrades for your abilities and gear, and lastly take down that giant glaring worm in the sky. Jet Island also has modifiers scattered about the map that you can collect, that have added some replay value and another reason to jump back in from time to time. Online Co-op is also present, and is the icing on the cake.
In terms of motion sickness, that will always vary from person to person. However I found that because Jet Island keeps you on the hoverboard, I was able to immerse myself deeper into the game and it's movement, compared to something like Phasmaphobia which never fails to make me sick within a few minutes. I can easily get an hour or two session into Jet Island, before I felt the need to take a break.
While Jet Island is not particularly a long game, it warrants it's price based on the unique experience it provides and rewarding gameplay through it's stellar movement mechanics. It's honestly hard not to have fun playing a game where you feel like a fusion between the Silver Surfer and Spider-Man, equipped with rocket gloves.
A must buy, and a staple to anyone's VR library.
This is by far the best VR game that for people not interested in talking or killing other players. The goals are made clear though you have to put a little effort if you've never played. 10/10 I have a insane love for this game.

Open-world, hover-board traversal, with alien environmental(geographic) puzzles, akimbo grapple guns(not since PANG!), and an optional "boss rush" gameplay structure.
I believe I've played this game twice for about 30 minutes each session, about 5 years ago. Haven't touched this game since. However, those sessions were some of my most memorable moments I've experienced in VR(I've played a decent amount of VR from tech demos to Half-life: ALYX).
The software is more akin to a playground than a "game". While there is an underlying structure and loose goals to the exploration(there are mysterious boss type creatures to defeat), you could probably spend hours in this world just experimenting and mastering the hover-board and double-grapple mechanics.
Jet Island is literally an AWEsome experience.

J'ai toujours rêvé de jouer à ce jeu, dès que je l'ai découvert en 2018. Je n'avais pas de casque VR à l'époque et j'étais malade comme un chien dans les transports.
Puis j'ai eu un Quest 2, puis un Quest 3. Ça n'a pas loupé, le moindre jeu avec du déplacement me rendait malade (genre même HL Alyx !). Mais à force de jouer à des petits jeux de temps en temps, le motion sickness est parti.
Aujourd'hui, j'ai décidé d'essayer Jet Island. Et quelle claque !! Ces sensations, cette vitesse dans un monde vaste, le contrôle que l'on a de son perso. Wow! L'attente en valait vraiment la peine ! Et 0 motion sickness ! Moi, le type qui est malade au bout de 10 min en voiture sur une route lambda de la Corrèze.
C'est génial !
Donc, vous avez un Quest 2-3, vous voulez jouer sans fil, et vous êtes intolérant à toute forme de transport ? Restez !
Prenez "Virtual Desktop" sur le Meta Store, jouer à des jeux peu exigeants de temps en temps et vous pourrez pleinement profiter de Jet Island dans d'excellentes conditions, sans nausée :) !

This game has been extremeley fun, like a vr spiderman with attack on titan. It felt sooo good to down the monolithic monters you are put up against, flying about super fast. 100% would recommend.

Living proof that VR doesn't have to be phot--- uhh any degree of realistic to be fun. in this you play as a hookshot weilding, jetpack launching, thing on a frictionless hoverboard soaring through a low poly alien landscape.
when you're close to the ground it feels fast, insanely so but your never close to the ground, you're soaring through obstacle courses, swinging under flying islands and chasing down massive low poly bosses.
you should play this It's a simple concept executed well and it's a very different experience and by far the best VR mobility game I've ever played.
it's not trying to be the be all and end all of gaming but the mobility is so good you don't care.
it's twenty nine dollarydoos at the time of posting and worth every single one of them.
Despite having come out in 2018, this game still has the most advanced locomotion I've seen in a VR game. Super fun movement and a great sense of scale.

After you get used to the movement after 5 or 10 minutes super fun game, incredibly impressive that as far as I know this is a one man dev game including the pretty nice music. Movement is very fast fluid and unique feeling, the 4 bosses have a incredible sense of scale to them while still involving the core game play loop. The world while big is pretty fun to get around since so much of its is unique not flat geometry and objects on it have ramps and structures everywhere to boost and hoverboard ride on. Overall really fantastic VR game glad to see it at overwhelmingly positive now. Dev teased a bit of their next game which looks awesome if its still being made now!

This game is such an incredible experience. Definitely one of the most epic games I have played in sense of scale and speed. I had a smile on my face the whole time and couldn't stop saying "Oh. My. God." Fantastic game.

Probably the best Spider Man game, the best rocket-powered Shadow of the Colossus, the best Sonic game. You're your own worst enemy, or rather, your lust for speed is. The game isn't exactly difficult; if you were to go slower, it would be easy. I suspect a boardless run is possible, dragging your butt on the ground across the entire game, but that would be downright torture to consider.

Im not finished with the game yet, but disregarding the price tag, I'd recommend it.
It's cool vr game with nothing else like it and a coop mode to boot.
but the game DOES seems pretty short in comparison to it's price. Yet i'd still recommend it if you can afford it during a sale since I doubt that's an experience you will ever be able to get elsewhere.
Albeit a short experience, it's absolutely a great game, especially if you need to develop VR legs. It's great to just explore, and it's equally great to experience the fights the game has to offer. It's a blast to show people coming over how this game handles as well, with its simplicity and with how barebones it is. I'd want way more of the likes of this game.

After you get used to the in game movement and stop having standing balance issues this game is awesome. The graphics may look cheap but the movement mechanics and the amount of things to do is really good. Chaining slides is very satisfying.

The mix of a friction-less hoverboard, grappling hooks and rocket hands is absolutely phenomenal in this absolutely massive island!
This game absolutely follows my belief the gameplay and mechanics come first always. This game has beautiful amounts of freedom, a large yet rich environment that isn't completely overwhelming, and some of the best feeling movement mechanics I have ever felt. I have almost fallen over so many times playing this game.
One of the best VR games for me PERIOD. You'll sometimes clip through walls but it is very easy to quickly get back in. The atmosphere and sound design and visual design and gameplay are all very beautiful, and the physics simulation is very fun! Most of the enjoyment is in the awe and fun of it all, as the "story" progression is short, but there are a lot of modifiers that you find around the map that make a 100% lengthy in a good way! And those same modifiers can spice things up when put into use :3 Have fun!!!

The immense sense of scale this game portrays is both beautiful and terrifying.
One of the best games I've played on VR. Amazing feeling of movement, speed and scale. Movement is fun to master and bosses are really cool. Great music too. Only downsides are the visuals and (I think?) it's badly optimised, but neither bothered me much at all because everything else was so amazing. 10/10, this kind of experience can be done only in VR, and I'm so glad it exists. More games like this please.
graphics are simplistic, id liken it to early-xbox/ps1 graphics but in VR (which, personally? i just love stylistically, but thats a personal thought)
gameplay is great, the grapple is awesome to use, as are the board, jets, and pistol- the controls are a little clunky/convoluted though, will definitely take getting used to.
story...? there probably is one, but you're gonna be too focused flying around to pay much attention to it.

The game is ugly, the controls are hard to grasp, it's super buggy and there is probably less than 8h of content (I'm at 32% after 1h30). If VR can make you sick, this game definitely will.
I still recommend it, the sense of scale is really good and the gameplay feels great and is rewarding (once you start understanding the controls).
Gliding at high speed on huge monsters to defeat them just feels great.
This game is a fun game. it's reminiscent of the days of ugly games that were actually fun to play. I have introduced multiple friends to this game, and every single one liked it as much as I did.

This game is really really fun. Probably easy to get sick, but one of the best games in VR.
I thought this game would be perfect for someone like me, someone who doesn't get motion sick easily. I really wanted to give this game a chance but the constant clipping through walls and floors at high speed did it in for me. This is kind of an issue when the game advertises itself as being able to go as fast as you want to. The game's fun, don't get me wrong but, it's hard to look over this major issue.
Maybe I'll try it again in the future but until this is fixed, I cannot recommend this game.
