1) I like difficulty but I don't like when they obligate us to play first all the game in Normal to be able to acces to a higher one then, as it happens here. For this reason I prefer Mario Galaxy 2 than 1, or with Ocarina of Time, in 3DS, where we have to play a remake first in Normal level. Moreover, imo difficulty is an art, and provides meaning, so to keep up with the examples mentioned, Nintendo as has the challenge of adjusting it for all audiences not always achieved it satisfactory, since it is not necessary to simply increase life, resistance and damage of the enemies, if we want to give it depth, but this is another topic.
2) It happens to me with Pixel Art that sometimes promise more than they are finally. The game looks good though.
3) I prefer static games than dynamic ones. This one would be between both of them.

This is an incredibly challenging platformer. Heck, at times it's even straight up BS, with how much ♥♥♥♥ it throws at you at once, meanwhile you just have 1 heart left. When you start a level and when you respawn in a check point, you have 1 heart.
However, turning the tables, overcoming difficult situations and making progress felt incredible!
Even with all the frustration I went through, playing this game, I still highly recommend it, if you like difficult games and/or platformers. Because this is a unique game, with lots of effort put into it and soul.

[*]While the game is very tough, if you are up for the challenge, it gives you all the tools and moves to overcome it.
[*]Enemies kill each other, which you can use to your advantage.

[*]You get to shoot a musket, at the horrors standing in your path!
[*]The ending caught me off guard, even though it made a lot of sense. In a positive way.

With that said, this game has its flaws.

This is a very unique and incredibly challenging platformer, with striking visuals, great music and lots of secrets to discover. A true hidden gem.
A musketeer's quest to settle French family matters, that the Germans in Heidelberg and the surrounding area, had to pay for in flesh and blood. Which was used to turn their land into a hellscape.

Well this is a true hidden gem! Someday a big content creator will find this and make it famous - future cult classic for sure.
Setting a punishing action platformer in the era of Louis XIV is an inspired choice, because the imagery and costume of his court has a bizarre, decadent profanity which suits the atmosphere of this game perfectly. Some things in the game are truly revolting and disturbing, others have a brilliantly twisted sense of humour. From obese drunken women hurling things out of the windows of burning buildings to twisted fleshcraft monstrosities, the design is inspired.
The gameplay is something like a cross between Ghosts and Goblins, Castlevania, Abe's Odyssee and Super Meat Boy. The musketeer you control is very precise and acrobatic, with a rapier and musket on a bipod. He is also very fragile and so you have to practise the same small sections over and over until you can clear them perfectly in a gory, beautiful dance of death.
Challenge is decent, the difficulty is well balanced at a moderate but not insane level. Some of the later levels had me stuck for a while, but I got through the game in about five hours.
The soundtrack is amazing, too - lots of chilling, atmospheric synth music.
I highly recommend this game as a truly unique piece of work that's full of creativity and artistry, set in a perverse and twisted reimagining of a fascinating period in history.
And life's tragedy repeats unending.
This scratched my Musketeer itch, and it did so beautifully. Excellent OST and gameplay. Visuals are stunning, but at times, I find it hard to keep track of everything on screen because of how busy it can get. The one real complaint that I have is this: the Head of the Moon King. Its presence turns an already-difficult game and turns it into a nightmare of what felt like RNG or like I was being punished for even playing in the first place. I beat the game, and I loved doing it. However, I do not intend to beat it on hard mode, purely because the vindictive Head exists and hunts me down enough as it is. I am a Musketeer scholar and reenactor, so this game makes me giddy as can be. I love it, but I hate the Head. I died more times to IT in a single encounter than I did to the ACTUAL Moon King fight. 7.5/10, purely because of visual disorientation and because of the Head, who haunts me even now.
I wrote this with 35/40 achievements.
Pros:
- Good dark fantasy game (not much of a swordplay really).
- Not too hard even on hard mode but quite challenging.
- Good control & game-pad support.
- Beautiful animations.
- Quick respawn.
- Stage selection feature allow finding secrets a lot easier.
Cons:
- Have only 1 health upon re-spawn while surrounded by all sort of monsters will discourage casual players (Not me tho !).
- Some secrets loots are too well hidden and there isn't any hint (I have to hit all the walls just to check).
- Story is meh.
I would definitely recommend this if its on sale and you want to take a break from competitive gamings or simply burned out from MMORPGs farms.

In diesem side-scrolling, 2D-Action-Game kämpfen wir als tapferer Musketier mit Degen und gemäß der Berufsbezeichnung dazugehörender Muskete gegen Dämonen und sonstige Grauen. Die Grafik wird in sehr netter Pixelgrafik präsentiert und auch der Sound gefällt. Weniger schön ist es, dass ich die Controllersteuerung nicht ans Laufen bekommen habe, aber die alternative Maus und Tastatur funktionierte auch ganz gut. Wir laufen also von links nach rechts und bekämpfen Zombies, feindliche Musketenschützen, Dämonen und vieles mehr. Dabei kommt der Muskete eine besondere taktische Bedeutung zu, denn wir können hier nicht beliebig wild durch die Gegen ballern, sondern müssen, wie sich das gehört, die Muskete auch nach jedem Schuss langwierig nachladen (Frontlader und so). Das bringt eine frische Prise ins Spiel. Unser Degen steht uns natürlich immer zur Verfügung, hinzu kommen gelegentlich auch spezielle Waffen, wie ein Schild, was feindliche Schüsse zurückwirft, eine Axt oder eine Pistole (die müssen wir seltsamerweise nicht nach jedem Schuss nachladen). Was ganz spaßig beginnt, mündet aber leider bald in große Ernüchterung. Zu zufällig kommen mir die Bewegungen der Gegner vor, zu ungenau das Trefferverhalten und getopt wird es dann noch durch sehr spärliche Speicherpunkte. Da stirbt man schon mal nach einem langen Weg einen zufälligen Tod, weil man gegen den Gegner gar nichts machen konnte (so ein Ochsenschädelgesicht mit Klingen um sich herum, der sich auf einen draufstürzt und im Nu alle drei Leben nimmt). Also wieder das Level von vorn, mit der Zeit und dem gefühlt hundertsten zufälligen Tod wird es dann einfach irgendwann langeweilig. Wer side-scrolling mit Schwert mag, sollte sich mal "Prince of Persia" anschauen und wer das "Mantel und Degen"-Setting gut findet, hat bestimmt Spaß mit "En Garde!".

Great castlevania style game, the action gets pretty chaotic as the levels progress, but then you start realizing its not about you simply killing all the enemies head-on, but by planning your movement, many of them kill themselves of in spectacular fashion; when the flow hits you, combined with the excellent music score, you really have to love this crazy piece of art. The boss fights are also interesting and varied, the best one being the general Tilly in my opinion, for the overall mood and setup(though the final boss is also a great one, there is something about the musical change when the Tilly fight starts that gets me).
Really fun and dark game. I like it.

Challenging game, a fun and refreshingly different take on the classic metroidvania genre. The developers definitely did their due diligence regarding musket dynamics etc.

I recently played "Heidelberg 1693" on Steam and overall, I would give it a thumbs up. The concept of the game is unique and I appreciate the effort that went into creating a historical simulation like this.
However, there were a couple of issues that detracted from my enjoyment of the game. Firstly, the character controls were somewhat imprecise and it was difficult to maneuver my character accurately. This led to some frustration during gameplay as I struggled to complete tasks and objectives.
Additionally, the difficulty of the game seemed somewhat unregulated. Some tasks were quite easy while others were nearly impossible, leading to a disjointed and uneven gameplay experience. Sometimes the screen is full of deadly enemies and projectiles, that interact with each other or even teleport and it gets really too much to process and thus you die a lot of times with a frustrative effect rather than an educative effect.
Despite these issues, I would still recommend "Heidelberg 1693" to others, especially if you are interested in historical simulations. However, it's worth noting that there are some rough edges that may detract from the overall experience.
I would recommend the devs to closely study character controls of Blasephemous.

First be aware that this is a difficult game. I finished it with just over 500 player deaths (something the game helpfully and/or cheekily keeps track of for you) in about a seven or eight hour first playthrough. It requires total precision and often memorization of how to survive some longer routes. Think challenge levels for Mario maker style. So right away, this will be a turn off for some; if you hate repeating sections over and over (and over) then this is definitely not the game for you. If you find yourself frustrated by repeated deaths, steer clear.
Will those caveats out of the way, this is a really wonderful game. The first thing you'll notice are the aesthetics: pixel art that perfectly walks the line between comical and horrific, while still being totally clear and readable. A fantastic supernatural historical setting, which I appreciate enormously. The zombies, drunks, demons, and various other horrors you will encounter are lovingly made and really set the mood, while the backgrounds keep you grounded. There are some truly inspired designs and concepts among the enemies and levels, and make it worth the difficulty to see what is next. Sound is fine, with a few positive stand outs here and there.
The (crucial) counterpoint to the above mentioned difficulty is that the controls feel completely precise, I never felt like any death was the fault of the game or how it handled. This is too often overlooked in 2D games, and is an entirely necessary component of a difficult game. The game can be as hard as you like, so long as it is fair, and this one succeeds. The slow to reload but powerful musket is a nice gameplay element, and adds a feeling of tactical decision making.
As to the story, I didn't really understand what was happening or what led to all this madness, just that the King of France sent me to kill the Moon King, but narrative isn't as important as just how evocative the setting is. It felt true to some of the apocalyptic fantasies of the age, to the point it almost feels like playing through an Hieronymus Bosch painting. If there were miniatures of the characters in this game, I would buy and paint them all.
All told, I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who thinks it may look interesting, with the strong warning that it is quite difficult and can be frustrating. It can certainly be beaten with enough time, but expect to repeat some parts many, many times. Really looking forward to what this (two person?) team makes next.
This game really makes you feel like you're in Europe
This game is extremely hard, my father entered the room and thought I was playing Contra like we did when I was younger. Couldn't help but agree with him, so many things on the screen to pay attention to! Overall, I've had a pleasant experience with this game, but I should warn that the game can feel a little bit clunky from time to time. Outside of that, pretty fun, if the developer can just make the controls a little bit better, I am pretty sure a sequel of this game could sell well.

-Mosquete esse que depois que atira leva um tempo pra recarregar.
-Recarregar é uma coisa triste pois você precisa esperar um tempinho.
-Tempinho esse que você acaba ficando parado, vulnerável a qualquer tipo de ataque.
-Ataque esse que você poderia ser evitado se tivesse um botão de parar de recarregar.
-Vocês não tem idéias da quantidade de vezes que morri recarregando o mosquete.
-Alem do mais, precisavam colocar uma mira da arma pra quem usasse controle também. Eu vi que tem no mouse um ponteiro e achei ele muito útil.
-O personagem anda todo desengonçado, acho que é por causa que ele anda com a mão na cintura. Não se os mosqueteiros andavam assim, mas não precisava fazer igual. Parece que ele ta num desfile de moda.
-E animação de morte é bizarra, às vezes ele começa a rodopiar. Isso confunde porque você acha que ainda tá vivo.
-Algumas animações de inimigos e chefes são bem duras, no chefe porco dá pra se notar.
-Por falar em inimigo, quem teve a maravilhosa idéia de colocar crânios flutuantes OP que ficam te seguindo, invocando fantasminhas, teleportando quando acertados, demoram pra morrer ou, pior, criar uma barreira de espadas que ficam rodopiando ele.
-Às vezes a fase é tão cheia de inimigas e caminho que deixa o jogo bem amador.
-Gostei do mapa e a forma que o jogo não é linear, cheio de segredo para cortar caminho. Da pra pular 90% do jogo se encontrar uma passagem secreta no começo.
-Algumas músicas são ok...
-O jogo tem alguns finais secretos e um modo difícil. O jogo não conseguiu me prender pra eu querer encontrar essas conquistas...que pelo visto, até agora, não tem nada online que te ajude.
-Sobre a dificuldade, bom é dificil. Mas não chega a ser injusto.
-Algumas partes ficou sim faltando alguns checkpoints. Os esgotos é um notável exemplo disso, pois a fase é entupida de bicho e sem nenhum checkpoint.

Very fun game, quick respawns, works on the Steam deck. One minor dislike, the checkpoints are sometimes surrounded by enemies where if you respawn you'll have 1 heart and 9 enemies around you trapping you in five respawns before breaking out. Actually having finished the game screw that Moonman stupid resurrecting the enemies and flying across from offscene. Nothing way cooler than getting killed and respawning because an non-dodgeable attack
I really wanted to like this game, but the amount of frustration I've gone through trying to beat this makes it seriously not worth it.
Look, I know: There are old platformers that are quite hard. However, I'd like to imagine that those games don't have controls that seem to go against you. I've gotten quite frustrated over hard games before, but Heidelberg 1693 is one of the few to actually make me stop playing. Having insanely crowded encounters and, in some cases, an overpowered floating head with a ton of health moving unpredictably around the level while surrounded by blades, meaning it's an incredibly likely insta-death for you, just isn't a fun kind of challenge if you ask me. I do love the setting this game takes place in, as well as the overall presentation.
So Heidelberg 1693 is a game with awesome presentation, but also constant difficulty coupled with slippery controls. If you have a lot of patience, I do suggest getting this game. Otherwise, I think you'll be fine.

Brutal alt history arcade platformer that plays kind of like a bizarro mix of Prince of Persia & Ghosts 'n Goblins. The single shot musket keeps things dicy! Over the top and highly recommended.

Did you ever play Ghouls 'n Goblins? Do you wish that game wasn't a quarter-crunchering masterpiece of misery? This game is Ghouls n' Goblins without the quarter-crunching misery. And therefore plausible to actually finish.
For those unfamiliar with Ghouls n' Goblins, this means it's a very hard side-scrolling run-and-gun platformer with tons of unlockables, secret areas, shortcuts, and ridiculous enemies. Fortunately, a checkpoint system means that trial and error is possible and no lives system means that you can brute force your way through the game. There is an arcade scoring system for those who want to finesse their way through. I couldn't. Maybe you can.
The game looks amazing,beautifull art but,the fps when playing it on any graphics dont seem to change,and it lags a lot,i really hope this game gets optimization options on future,when i first joined i only could make to the first checkpoint cause of the immense lag,but this game surely is worth the money if you have a good pc
Style is pretty cool and the story seems fascinating, but the game is super clunky. Enemies are extremely erratic with their behaviors to the point where I can either fight them on even footing or just get hit immediately on spawn. Speaking of which, you only start with one health which means the moment I do get hit at my spawn point I then have the luxury of spawning back with the off chance that I will once again die two steps from spawn. So when all this happens and the game page says
"Timing your actions is critical to success in this game, as a correctly timed jump or attack can be the difference between glorious victory and shameful defeat. Furthermore, studying and understanding your enemies will be of utter importance"
then these words start to feel empty and meaningless. When I bought this game I fully expected a challenge but not one that felt like it was it was going to be up to a coin toss each run. I truly wanted to like this game but with how controls tie together and bad/inconsistent enemy behavior I'll have to sit this one out. Hopefully any future projects will be an improvement over this and I wish the devs good luck.
I'm going to preface this with a disclaimer: while I am giving the game a negative review, I do not DISLIKE the game. In fact I like it quite a bit, and think it has a lot of good things going for it. However, at the end of the day, I feel the flaws significantly interfere with my making an honest recommendation for the game to others. With that said, to go into detail:
This game styles itself off the old-school, pre-Symphony of the Night Castlevanias, specifically Super Castlevania 4. The creators have said so as much. Both in terms of gameplay and aesthetic, this is a game about tight platforming, difficult enemy encounters and a gothic horror locale. Or at least, it tries to be. Aesthetics wise I'll voice no complaint, save perhaps for the fact the music is pretty forgettable droning synth stuff, but visually the game is a gorgeous pixel art display of grotesque horrors set in the European Enlightenment.
Mechanically though, I have problems. First is the controls - which I will preface, I know the creators have said they are working on adding controller support for directional pads, but at current this has not yet been implemented. Control sticks for 2D movement is never the most precise feeling, and Heidelberg seems fit to demand some fairly precise bit of it despite that, with Prince of Persia-esque ledge climbing thrown into the mix as well. This results in a very frustrating experience where the controls do not respond as you need, which is not good when faced with the sheer chaos of the games combat (more on that in a moment). Pressing either the attack or jump button while in mid-air will give you a bit of extra air time with an aerial attack, but because the slightest nudges on the stick result in the character slipping accordingly, can result in doing unintended attack hops when trying to jump off a ledge. By pressing up on the stick, you can grab ledges overhead to pull up on, but the animation makes no indication of this being the case unless you succeed, and because ledges are often much higher than you can actually jump physically, this makes several platforming sections deceptive and unintuitive. Moreover, combined with the slippery stick movements mentioned before, and you'll often struggle to align with a ledge correctly to pull yourself up on it, and if you nudge the stick while grabbing onto the ledge, your character will let go and fall back down, often into whatever chaotic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is going on beneath you with the enemies. The directional pad update needs to come as soon as possible, and the jumping animations need to be modified to show when you are actually able to pull up on a ledge or not.
Nextly is the combat. The game does have some fascinatingly excellent core conceit gimmicks I really like, namely what the creators call the Philosophy of Causality. Everything can affect everything in this game, so enemies take friendly fire and will absolutely destroy themselves in their bloodlust to try and get to you, and this can have unexpected consequences you have to adapt to in order to survive. In theory, I love this. In practice, it's a pain in the ass and creates a good deal of good old "fake difficulty" on account of a handful of external factors. The first of which is the slippery controls as mentioned before. Trying to do a precise platform climb to get to a special item, which in itslef is already difficult due to the poor control feel and feedback of the jumping, is made all the more frustrating when enemy chain reactions cause flying projectiles and the like to knock you away.
More frustrating though is the ever-present appearance of the game's antagonist, the Moon King, who appears in many stages as a disembodied floating skull (similar to Castlevania's own Medusa Heads) and stalks you throughout. His design is to resurrect enemies that you have killed but not destroyed the bodies of (which is largely only doable with your musket or explosive subweapons), thus keeping pressure on you - but if he is attacked, he will spawn aggressive, homing skulls to attack you (so, more Medusa Heads) as well as immediately change position. This happens EVEN WHEN STRUCK BY OTHER ENEMIES. It is entirely possible to have the Moon King be struck by a stray enemy, spawn skulls to attack you, then teleport away only to be struck by more attacks because he teleports into the line of fire and thus spawns MORE skulls. When struck enough in a row he will surround himself with spinning blades to prevent you from attacking him - which CAN be helpful for you as it can harm enemies too, but more often than not he's just going to entrap you against a wall or prevent you from avoiding other enemies as he blocks your way. It is absolutely maddening to have an otherwise perfectly fine attempt at a level immediately go south and need to start over because this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ get poked by a stray musket shot that wasn't even your own and thus decided to come buzzsaw you into a corner while you try and deal with some dangerous, high-HP enemy. I like the conceit of the Moon King encouraging you to obliterate enemies or else he'll brng them back, but his countermeasures intended to keep the player from trivializing him by attacking him away from enemy corpses does not play nice with the chaos of the game's free-for-all combat.
Then, lastly, really, the game just feels unfair on purpose with regards to many enemy patterns. Despite owing its inspiration to Castlevania, the game is significantly less fine tuned than it. The aforementioned Medusa Head-like skull enemies don't pursue you on a fixed pattern that can be learned, they can go off screen and them ambush you from another side. Enemies have anticipation frames for projectile attacks that happen way too quickly and are far too subtle to make out at times, primarily the dagger-throwing sorts. There's a level where cannonballs rain down from the sky and where they land is absolutely random without any sort of forewarning, and their explosions send shrapnel flying outward which while on consistent trajectory arcs, are still ridiculously hard to avoid because of the cannonballs themselves not having any pattern to their landings. Bosses tend to have extremely erratic behavior patterns that makes learning their attacks tiresome and overcoming them rather luck-based as they absolutely can and will fall into cycles of spamming the same attacks over and over without pause. Lastly, the respawning is just tiresome - you can increase your maximum health by rescuing damsels, but if you die you lose all that extra health - and you respawn back with only ONE (out of three). There are unlimited continues and no lives, but I would rather have limited lives and lose my extra health on a game over and have to start the whole stage over with full than try and bang my head against some of these checkpoints with only one point of health until I get lucky. Moreover, enemies are active as soon as you load in on a checkpoint or otherwise, and it is entirely possible to spawn in and get killed almost immediately afterwards because of this. It also makes trying to assess a situation before retrying frustrating as well, because most of the time as soon as you respawn in you have to start DEALING with SOMETHING coming after you.
I get this is meant to be a hard game. It's inspired by the legacy of some of the hardest around. I love classic Castlevania, especially the game Heidelberg names as its most direct inspiration (which is my favorite Castlevania, imo the best of the traditional action Castlevanias, and the one I've played and beaten the most). However, this is not how a game should honor a legacy of difficult action arcade games. There is a lot to like here - good aesthetic, atmosphere, level design and secret exits - but until the challenge is better tuned, I can not in good faith recommend this game, and it pains me to have to say that. I hope the devs continue to polish and patch the game so one day I can.
Hard but fair arcade-style game with gruesome visuals. It's not amazing or anything, but pretty fun and unique. I like it.
I'm only a few minutes in, but I'm pretty in love with this game already. Works pretty well with Microsoft Surface Go 2. Plays well with 3rd party keyboard and mouse. Using graphics settings to "simple." I've seen a couple reviews here that says the controls feel a little slightly off, mainly referring to using the double jump. At times it does feel a bit of a gamble on how exactly a double jump will be performed, It's really kind of about finding the rhythm, i'll use a technical term here; Janky. If you can forgive the jankiness of the double jump and not being able to aim the gun higher than a 45 degree angle...It works. Seriously though, if you like old school, Castlevania, Ghosts'n'Goblins, (I'd even say) Contra NES, goth/horror theme, side scroll, GET THIS GAME NOW. It's on sale. If i'm comparing apples to oranges, I'm having more fun playing this than I did playing Little Nightmares.
On another note while just briefly playing, What is kind of cool and forgiving about the game is that enemies actually destroy each other, so you can use a well placed jump and time a projectile to hit another enemy. Other enemies simply just walk into each other and go at it. I have not played this all the way through, i just started it but i'm already excited about whats coming.

A very fun, simple side-scrolling indie platformer. It's reminiscent of Blasphemous with its artistic, dark, pseudo-history horror atmosphere, but it's *NOT* a MetroidVania type game--there's no exploration, leveling up, gaining equipment, upgrading weapons or crafting. Instead, the gameplay is more simplistic & linear, like Guns, Gore, and Cannoli 2. The game is fun to play, well designed, and consistently entertaining. I definitely would recommend, however, I wouldn't cop it unless it's on sale.

Сюжетная линия довольно таки интересная, и весьма неплохо то,что по мере продвижения процесс прохождения игры сильно усложняется. Также большим достоинством являются яркие запоминающиеся боссы, это и Иван Вильгельм который сросся с деревом, и свинорожий ландснехт закошмаривший немецкие поселки, а также восставший из мертвых прославленный полководец 30-летней войны Тилли, и Король Луны превративший Гейдельберг в Ад на Земле. Игра однозначно рекомендуется любителям старых жанров.
Honestly an extremely fun game. Unfortunately outside of the presentation and gameplay there isn't a lot of meat on the bones, an average playthrough should take 3 hours and potentially even less if you're not looking for unique weapons or secret level. I wouldn't complain about this if the game was even a few dollars cheaper, for a game with such a high level of presentation but such a short playtime and price tag its hard to recommend at full price. However, if you get it even on a light sale it is definitely worth it. Standout mechanics for me were certainly the firearm diversity, hidden rooms and just standout art direction which feels just truly unique.
Cleveres Design was ich bislang gesehen habe. Die Musketen müssen strategisch eingesetzt werden, Gegner greifen sich teilweise gegenseitig an. Es hat ein bisschen was von gefährlicheren Spielen wie Dark Souls, aber bleibt trotzdem ein Arcade Spiel. Da ich selbst Gamedesigner bin, gefallen mir solche besonderen Ideen umso mehr.
Heutzutage haben es Indies wirklich sehr schwer Aufmerksamkeit zu erregen. So ein Titel wäre vor einigen Jahren noch mega viel verkauft worden und jetzt hat es gerade mal ein paar wenige Reviews. (Davon kann keiner leben ) So ein Spiel darf nicht so wenig Reviews haben, es ist wirklich spielenswert!
The creators and some of the reviews of seen compare this little hidden gem to Super Castlevania 4, and it's not entirely unwarranted, aesthetically, but it almost feels more like a Ghosts and Goblins entry. Regardless, it's a fun, gory romp, and it's probably worth your time.
There are some issues with dropping frame rates, but those issues seem to crop up during extended sessions with lots of deaths. Most of them can be mitigated by playing on windowed mode.
Found an easteregg if you would call it that in the heiligenberg level. After the pit with the faces on the wall near the end, you can grab the ledge of the brick building and climb it to mario style pass all the enemies in the level to the end. The only thing is the game doesnt let you complete the level, however cool that you can get up there to begin with. Love this game I even made a warhammer mini off it. check the artwork for me and throw a like!
I am sincerely disgusted by the gameplay and what the game offers in combat, weird patters for bosses, bad game design, weird movement, STARTING WITH ONE HP! Why is that a thing!?
I hope some updates will be added, and by updates i mean SERIOUS updates!
I understand the feeling of making a game but making a game with a good lore is interesting, but put all the efforts in the lore is making abandon ship for the gameplay.
Unity isn't nice for a game like this, i really like the concept of this game but i hope some changes will make me change my review.
Please devs, do something for your game.

王多打幾次就能摸清攻擊模式
整體而言我覺得不算好遊戲，有些老街機還比這款好玩
主打猎奇向，敌人是各种变异怪胎，但好像除了这个就没什么亮点了。
手感算流畅，但关卡设计很普通，一味展示血腥反而不够猎奇。
Boss设计很平庸，无规则的乱冲乱跳，打起来不好玩也不刺激。
概括就是想做成恶心版魔界村，但魔界村本体就是个渣游戏，于是这个游戏起点就低了，所以天花板很明显。
闲得蛋疼可以尝试。

悪い点があるとするなら
・二段ジャンプが特殊。ジャンプ後に攻撃で二段目が発生するので少し使い勝手が悪い。
・コントローラだとマスケット銃の照準が操作しにくい
・レイピアの攻撃範囲は見た目より狭く慣れが必要

Heidelberg 1693 est un die & retry au concept simplissime et fonctionnel, qui n'évoluera quasiment pas du début à la fin.
Vous aurez dès le départ accès à un double saut et aux deux attaques du jeu : une à la rapière, l'autre au mousquet.
Ce dernier a des munitions limitées et nécessite d'être rechargé à chaque tir, ce qui vous immobilisera et vulnérabilisera quelques instants.
Quelques mécaniques bien pensées contribuent à donner une vraie identité au jeu, comme les ennemis pouvant parfois être ressuscités par d'autres, ce qui pousse à ne pas rester statique et à avancer relativement vite (sachant que les ennemis tués par le mousquet ne pourront pas réapparaître).
Le friendly-fire entre ennemis est également un aspect très sympa, intéressant et fun à exploiter!
Les checkpoints sont plutôt nombreux et bien placés, divisant les niveaux en petites sections recelant généralement une difficulté spécifique à surmonter.
C'est surtout son design artistique qui m'avait attirée vers ce titre, et de ce côté là, je n'ai pas été déçue : la réalisation esthétique est impeccable, le pixel art et les ambiances sonores sont vraiment maîtrisés, ce qui donne une excellente atmosphère au jeu ! C'est à mon sens son plus gros point fort.
Ce qui m'amène à évoquer aussi ses points faibles, et il y en a malheureusement quelques uns à mentionner...
- J'ai personnellement trouvé le jeu mal optimisé et beaucoup trop gourmand. (i7 – GTX1060).
Pour vous donner une idée, même configuré en 1900x600 fenêtré et au niveau graphique le plus bas, Heidelberg 1693 fait DAVANTAGE chauffer ma GPU et mon CPU que "Resident Evil Village" ou "The Shore". Et j'estime que c'est un problème.
- Ensuite, la difficulté est assez mal dosée, avec des pics assez rageants qui nécessiteront de trop nombreuses tentatives, parfois suivis de niveaux entiers traversées d'affilée au tout premier essai sans la moindre encombre.
- Si je n'ai aucun problème avec le fait que le jeu propose extrêmement peu de possibilités d'actions, il me semble en revanche qu'elles sont perfectibles.
La petite latence quand on atterrit avant de pouvoir ressauter est trop longue, la visée au mousquet est limitée à un angle parfois frustrant, les sauts et les accroches aux parois manquent un poil de précision, et mis à part le cœur de vie supplémentaire et la bouclier, la poignée de bonus trop discrets sont vraiment très oubliables...
- Et à propos de précision, c'est typiquement le type de jeu auquel j'aurais eu envie de jouer à la croix directionnelle plutôt qu'au stick analogique, or c'est désagréablement impossible.
- Certains ennemis ont des scripts d'attaques trop imprévisibles – chose qui n'est jamais bienvenue dans ce type de jeu. (Tirs à 3 projos en ellipses aléatoires, mines qui tombent du ciel, tirs qui passent à travers les couverts de façon imprédictible...)
- Je n'ai jamais compris comment on peut imaginer que c'est une bonne idée pour un Die & Retry de faire redémarrer la musiques du début à chaque mort... Laissez tourner entièrement TOUTE la boucle musicale du niveau bоrdel !
- Comme de coutume, le pop-up unity qui sert de menu d'options graphiques est pourri, et se permettra en plus de ne prendre vos choix en compte qu'au bout de plusieurs tentatives.
- Et puisqu'on parle d'options, je regrette l'absence de niveau de difficulté. Vous passerez obligatoirement par l'unique mode normal, jusqu'à débloquer un mode Hard en terminant le jeu.
Or j'aurai apprécié de jouer en facile juste pour me balader, car le jeu est assez dur – chose naturellement intrinsèque au genre bien sur.
Il m'aura fallu environ 4h pour en voir le bout, ce qui me semble un peu léger mais pas non plus malhonnête pour un jeu vendu 12,5€.
L’existence de chemins alternatifs étaye son potentiel de rejouabilité (déjà bon à la base).
Au final, je le conseille uniquement sous réserve que vous ayez bien pris connaissance de ses spécificités et de ses problèmes, car je pense qu'il risque de ne pas forcément plaire à tout le monde, y compris à ceux qui d'habitude aiment ce genre.
Interessting 'Horror' sidescroller game. Similar to Ghosts 'n Goblins and Castlevania. It's hard,but not unbeatable and makes fun to play.

This game is a worthy successor to Splatterhouse 3. The graphic atmosphere is interesting. The handling is easy.

First and foremost, I don't understand why there's not more games with black powder weapons; they can be presented as potent as all hell and punishing if your aim is absolute garbage. The gameplay with that concept alone writes itself.
Secondly, why isn't there more period horror? The aesthetic for this game is simply outstanding and I love, love, LOVE the mood the game presents--it's dark and bleak but it doesn't take itself too seriously and isn't afraid to have a little fun ala gallows humor in the enemy animations and types.
And the soundtrack--I wasn't expecting to really enjoy that so much, more often than not a soundtrack becomes back ground noise for me the but dark synth and hints of harpsichord elevate the whole experience. That was seriously a hell of a surprise.
Gameplay wise, it's basically a very good Castlevania clone--though we're talking pre Symphony of the Night here so it's not about back tracking though there's plenty to explore in each level. Animations are great, the shooting feels really fantastic and since the character can mantel platforming is quite simple.
However, there in lies a small flaw to all of this and it lies in one major factor; this game doesn't play so great with a controller and for a lot of people who play platforming games, that's likely going to be a big negative. Weirdly enough though? It plays...incredibly good with the keyboard, if not flat out great.
But if you've absolutely NEED to play this game with a controller? You may wish to pass--it's not very responsive (and I tried two separate controllers for this) and not allowing the D pad to move is incredibly restraining; coupled with the fact that aiming your musket becomes a serious hassle at times.
However, if you're fine with KB&M, you're in for a really great, gory time!
독일 인디게임 회사에서개발한 하이델베르크 1693은 계승전쟁 이후 황폐해진 하이델베르크에 가상의 인물인 문킹이 사악한 마법으로 시체를 소생하고 나라를 혼란에 빠트리면서 태양왕 루이 14세가 머스켓티어에게 문킹을 사살하라는 명령을 내리고 주인공인 머스켓티어가 임무를 수행 하러 가는 내용 입니다. 역사적인 전쟁이나 인물에 가상인물과 공포를 덧댄 게임으로 호러나 기괴한걸 좋아하는 분들은 분명 좋아할만한 (저를 포함) 요소들과 분위기가 많이 있습니다.
몹들은 칼로 죽일수도 있지만 총으로 죽이면 시체가 폭발(?) 해서 완전히 죽습니다. 그런데 머스켓은 쏘고나면 상당히 오랜 시간 공들여서 장전을 해야 하고 무쌍 찍을라고 총쐈다간 다음 사격 전에 죽는 일도 허다 합니다. 어려운 게임을 그나마 쉽게 만든건 목숨이 없어서 계속 다시 시작 할 수 있다는 점입니다. 자꾸 죽으니까 어차피 목숨이 필요없다고 느꼈을 지도 모르겠습니다.
그리고 몹들은 봅들끼리도 싸우고 서로 죽이기도 합니다. 근거리 몹 뒤에 머스켓 쏘는 몹이 있다면 근거리 몹을 고기방패로 잘 활용 할 수도 있습니다. 그럼 점수도 더 많이 받죠!
주인공의 모션이 좀 과도하고 오바스러운 경향이 있어서 코미디가 섞인 게임인줄알았는데 게그요소는 1도 없고 음침하고 기괴한 분위기를 아주 잘 살렸습니다. 그건 음악도 한몫을 하는거 같습니다.
결국 몹들 사이에서 얼마나 잘 때리고 머스켓을 잘 쏘고 내가 안전한곳에서 얼마나 좋은 타이밍에 재장전을 해 놓느냐가 이 게임의 주된 액션 포인트 입니다. 그다음엔 근거리 몹으로 원거리 몹의 공격을 막고 빠른 시간에 원거리몹을 처리하는 일과 다루기엔 장사없으니 재빠르게 튀는일들이 일어나지요. 볼륨이 큰 게임은 아니어서 가성비를 따진다면 실망하실 분들도 있을꺼 같지만, 불편한 머스켓을쏘는 특이한 주인공과 나를포함 보이는건 다 죽이는 몹들 덕분에 음산한 느낌도 더 잘 어울리고 조작도 더 몰입해서 하게 되었습니다.
일반적인 호러보다 좀더 신기하고 기괴한컨셉을 좋아하신다면 분명 추천드릴만한 게임이고, 악마성이나 블래스퍼머스 같은 메트로 베니아는 아니고 마계촌에 더 가까운 게임 입니다.
Nice Castlevania-esque action platformer with an interesting shooting mechanic.
This game has amazing graphics. The art-design for the levels suitably reflects the time-period in which the game takes place. There is a interesting aspect in the game in which enemies kill other enemies, either directly or indirectly. The walking undead will attack enemy musketeers and enemies can shoot other soldiers if you make them line up their shot then jump out of the way.
This game is awesome, it looks good and plays good. The difficulty is just right, it doesn't ramp up too quickly. Enemies can friendly fire so there are many moments where you can just strategically position yourself and let them tear each other up instead of having to do the dirty work yourself. Replayability is good too since there are alternate paths you can take. I wholeheartedly recommend this game.
I never really thought I would go back to my roots. A dark basement with a 12 pack of Tab soda and a copy of Ghost n Goblins that my cousin rented for me from the store because my parents said I couldn't get it. But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game got pretty close.
The game managed to keep a solid difficulty throughout my playthrough with only a few times where things were either too hard or too easy. Enemies tend to bullet hell you with a lot of projectiles but the dev added in friendly fire and that will add a new layer to gameplay where instead of just trying to find the right moment to dodge and attack there are also a lot of opportunities to line up a situation where one enemy will kill another allowing you to progress with less hassle. Some of the maps you will be going through will simply be walking from one side to the other without a whole lot of challenge but when there is a challenge there is A LOT of challenge. I was pretty disappointed by the map where you could fly a renaissance flying machine that was shown in the trailer. It only lasts about 2 minutes and has no real challenge to it.
Most of the enemies are relatively basic and aside from that fact are still well done. You have everything you expect to see in a side-scrolling horror such as skeletons and zombies with more unique enemies sprinkled in. All of these enemies have pretty normal side scroller attacks like throwing projectiles in a certain way or walking towards the player at different speeds. The only real variation is the amount of health they have but there is one enemy that stands out and is pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying. There is an enemy skull that you find the origins later that will follow you throughout the game that is probably the most obnoxious part of the combat. It spawns in random spaces and uses random abilities (I think there is a pattern but I couldn't really figure it out) and normally this wouldn't be a problem but the two situations where it becomes a nuisance is when the skull spawns outside of the screens borders and launches projectiles that you won't see coming, heat seek on the player, and can really screw up a situation and the second situation is where the skull will spawn using an AoE ability in an area that you need to go or right on top of you. If you are out of ammo or get caught in the AoE you will be almost instantly killed.
The weapons do leave a lot to be desired. Most of the secondary weapons are pretty damn useless or at the very best situational. You have weird things like putting a shield on a balloon, or putting a weird multishot thing on a balloon, or getting a heat seeking skull that doesn't really seem to work well. I never really used a whole lot of the optional weapons and as for that matter never really used the musket a whole lot. Range combat in general is pretty slow and clunky, it works great in certain situations but for the most part you're going to be dodging and weaving with your rapier.
The artwork is pretty damn amazing in this game, the story line is not. There isn't a lot I can say about the art work. It's crisp, clean, and fits well into every setting. All of the enemies and attacks look exactly as they should. The story on the other hand is kind of confusing. It's mostly told through cutscenes after you beat a boss or progress to a certain point in the game. You can get the general gist of the story but might be a little confused about the details until the end of the game.
I'm always hesitant to buy any indie horror game over 10$ because 90% of the time they have no story, no originality, and no heart. But this game breaks the mold on not only the gothic style but also the horror and side scrolling genre. Easily a solid 8/10.
