Love it!!
It wasn't great in 2014 and it hasn't gotten better with age. Much like Starbound, there's not much meat to the game - you're fighting the same three fights over and over and over again barely strung together with a few sentences of dialogue between each mission.
Add in terrible accuracy curves, clunky inventory management, and no experience gain - then you really have no reward for grinding through the story to reveal the next story segment. If the story was good, I would recommend the investment - but it's a fairly boilerplate "stranded in space, get to the cockpit" trope.
Although this game isn't as polished as their sequel Pathway, I still love it! :D There's something about this system of flat 2D strategy games I just love and this one delivers :) Looking forward to more Robotality/ChuckleFish games in the future! Fantastic work :D
Having a 70% + chance for any hit actually means 10% so be prepared to miss every single shot u take. Playing through this game sadly is pure misery which is sad, because i like the setting, the art and the idea of the gameplay in general. Every level in late game makes me want to rip my hair out, u try every level a thousand times, because its insane RNG completely in the favor of the AI. Im not joking when i say i just missed 6 80% shots in a row. I was thinking about writing this while playing the whole game but the last mission gave me the rest. NO SPOILER - the level is taking an insanely amount of time just to play through and when u start missing every shot in the middle of this level and die because of it, which means u have to restart and do everything over again, u just start asking urself why u put urself through is absolute torture of a game. Most frustrating game ive ever played and yes i played the dark souls games and probably other games that are considered worse than this lmfao.

Turn based strategy game with some charm but brutal lack of QoL features and excruciatingly tedious mechanics led me to shelve this.
If you're interested in the game due to the sci-fi theme, turn-based strategy gameplay, and pixel art, I think you'll be satisfied with the experience, as I was. The story piqued my curiosity and the characters had a bit of depth, and I enjoyed seeing things through to the end.
I found the shooting/hit probability to be totally fair, and enemies were bound by the same rules. If you equip characters properly and know how to use their special abilities, the battles are challenging (as they should be), but not frustrating (I only died once, and restarted a level once or twice).
The main drawback is that while everything is pretty good, nothing truly "stood out." I wish the game had either been shorter for what it was, or longer with more gameplay variety and story scenes added.
The core gameplay loop is engaging, but it would have been better if you could have interacted with more of the environment (like the classic exploding barrels, etc.), and there were more types of weapons for variety. It also would have been better if there was more dialog/story and "events" that deepened your emotional involvement.
Overall, I'm glad the game exists. If you have the time, like what you see in the trailer, and are up for a medium-high difficulty, you'll enjoy the game.
Gave it a shot. Could not get into it. Gameplay got very stale and boring. Just going through a level to realize where the enemies would ambush so I'd have to reset and be ready for it. Arbitrary difficulty. Not worth finishing for me.

Unfortunately I didn't enjoy it. Combat is fine, but walking around between ambushes is just so slow. You click to move your party, and they all walk across the screen. You can't do anything while they're walking - not check their inventory, not even pan the camera. Looting containers became a real slog, even before inventory management. I won't be completing it.
Honestly , wanted to like it. Seemed like an ok X-Com Clone, however it was quite boring even after only 3 hours. The one thing I really did not like , was it would break my display after playing and leave like a glitch to where I would have to put it in sleep mode and back to undo the error. Honestly, I don't hate it, but still don't wanna play .
As one of the fewer than 10% of players who have completed the main story AND stop the invasion, I feel I have the authority to present myself as an ambassador to this game and say that it was really hard.... like REALLY hard.... like an exasperating curve of exponential difficulty that's only palatable to a connoisseur of tactical turn-based gameplay and who revels in the glory of turning unwinnable situations into well earned challenges. You're gonna love it.

It's okay, but you're far better off with x-com or xenonauts, both of which offer superior mechanics, including stealth and ambush tactics. Halfway does things... eh, halfway. don't bother unless it's on a heavily discounted special.
The story is half-decent, I suppose, if rather minimalistic, but if you want story, shadowrun has better story, plus graphics, and gameplay, so...
I think he most irritating aspect is the accuracy system, which appears to be a fully random roll within a percentage system, which means that you could spend an hour hitting absolutely nothing even if every shot has an 80% or higher chance. Imagine missing with a shotgun at point-blank range, and everything else is even less accurate at all ranges. Yeah. Sniper rifle, explicitly designed for long range aimed shots? Haha, no, sucks to be you. Negative points for extra lazy implementation. Now, to be fair, the enemy is subject to the exact same mechanics, but it's not about fairness, its about gameplay, and it's just lackluster.
Look, props to an indie dev for the effort, but honestly, do better.

The game starts out rather brisk, but then forces arbitrary difficulty spikes that I feel were not justified given the level of writing.
At about 4 hours in, I found myself thinking "Gosh, I hope this ends soon."
Then the central sci-fi plot device was revealed. As of 2025 its a very, very tired sci-fi cliche. I just stopped playing.
I'm giving this a thumbs up but I didn't finish this game and I don't know that I'd care to play it again.
It is a turn-based tactical shooter which is really neat. I like the simplicity of the game and the narrative is engaging. Managing your squad is not burdensome and you can get into the game quickly. However, the big negative for me is that it is unforgiving. There are wave after wave of enemies coming at you and they seem to hit more often than your squad does, regardless of cover or the % chance of hitting. The number of shots that I missed that said I had 80+% chance of hitting was ridiculous and very demotivating. For someone who doesn't mind the grind of doing a level over and over until you unlock the formula for success, go ahead, but I don't think its geared towards someone wanting a more casual experience.

Actually this is a pretty easy, entertaining, good-looking, and overall solid turn-based game.
So, if you've not played these type games, Halfway is a good entry point. If you like strategy and want to give a try, it doesn't disappoint. But, if you've plenty of hours in turn-based games, maybe this one might fall short.
Nice little XCOM clone, yet MUCH less tactical deepness. No heights, no skilltrees. All your teammembers have exactly 2 individual skills, and that's it. No further leveling up or anything. The missions are very short and very plentiful, but always the same: explore a small level, kill all enemies. In later levels, also defend against several waves of enemies. Those missions can be very unfair at times. No saving during missions.
I recommend this at discount, NOT at full price. Shardpunk or Mutant Year Zero are way better. However, this game is not bad.

I watched the credits — and... there's no credits for sound! 😆 What a shame, ha. The audio design is actually decent! Mildly captivating story, too. Visuals, I liked the style, old-school — and you have to *earn* the nice-looking rooms mid-campaign, how about that. Gameplay wise, well, very much classic tactical shooter a-la XCOM. Gamepad support could be better. But heck, is a 10-year old game, and the world is on fire, so who am I to complain to, right? 😂

this just dragged on for too long.
the plot gave up, after a certain number of missions they just stop updated the npc dialog between non major missions. most of the missions are just combat going between a-b there is no story point for this it just adds fights. the story itself feels like an afterthought and makes no sense. there is no explanation you're just somewhere else. this may or may not be someone else's problem now. overall you seem worse off than you started at the end
the combat gave up, later into the game they introduce armored enemies. the counter to this is ... nothing, fights just last 3x as long for no reason now. weapons reach their ceiling at this point. they have one melee weapon in the (late)game and its also a gun likely due to coding limitations..
got this as a free from a friend who received it in a bundle and wasn't interested, its a basic lil tactical game but just drop it in a couple of hours when you get bored, what you see is what you get and it gets no better at the end

- Not showing numbers on health and shield bars or even the enemies names makes difficult to figure out if you are gonna be able to face them or you are gonna die , but i wanna thing that is part of the story where the characters don't know anything

Muy trabajado a nivel pixelart y con muchas variantes, este junto con Path Way me parecen de los mejores juegos que han salido estos ultimos años. Really want to be able to recommend this but repetitive boring music and infuriating Xcom-esque BS where your unit ever hit anything and enemies hit you from across the map will make this too annoying after a while.

Al frente de esta política expansionista se encuentra la “Global Space Agency” (GSA). Desde hace un tiempo están desapareciendo naves en el hiperespacio, sin dejar rastro ni señal evidente. La historia se centra en la nave Goliath, presuntamente desaparecida. Nosotros formamos parte de la tripulación de la nave, liderados por el capitán Morten Lannis. Incomunicados y desesperados, deberemos hacer frente a la gran amenaza que ha abordado la nave, buscando la manera de restablecer las comunicaciones y salir con vida de esta grave situación.

Al encontrarnos con algún enemigo pasaremos al modo de combate. Es aquí donde empieza la estrategia por turnos. El escenario se divide en casillas, esencial para calcular los movimientos, buscar coberturas y medir el alcance de las armas y habilidades. Al pulsar sobre un personaje se desplegará un árbol de acciones y habilidades, la barra de salud y armadura. Los enemigos mostrarán su correspondiente salud/armadura y un porcentaje, correspondiente a la probabilidad de acierto en caso de atacarles. Como en otros juegos del género, dispondremos de puntos de acción (AP), que nos informan del número de acciones que podemos hacer o la distancia que podremos recorrer durante el combate. Cada personaje contará con un set de habilidades únicas, unos atributos (vida, agilidad y puntería), así como una mayor predisposición para emplear determinadas armas y equipo, por lo que será esencial valorar la equipación de cada uno. A partir de aquí los combate se irán resolviendo por turnos entre aliados y enemigos, hasta acabar con todos ellos o caer en combate.

Halfway me ha sorprendido gratamente, sobre todo porque no tenía mucha información de él cuando lo jugué y me pareció excelente. Tendremos multitud de armas, equipamiento, sets de habilidades y personajes que descubrir, así como dominar el componente estratégico. La trama de ciencia ficción resulta bastante interesante, dando un par de giros que llaman la atención. Si disponemos de algo de experiencia en el género veremos que hace uso de muchos elementos clásicos, siendo sencillo familiarizarnos rápido con la jugabilidad. El apartado gráfico está bien cuidado, con un pixel art bien hecho. Completar el juego al 100% me ha llevado unas 18 horas y lo cierto es que he disfrutado mucho jugándolo.

There's a lot to talk about here. The game was alright, I've been seeing that it's a copy from another game. It's turn based but unfair, half the time your shots miss. The game crashes a lot, unsure if it's the game itself or the windows update, a lot of games from what I could tell have been crashing from it.
The fairness is so poor. I was originally going to mod the game but I came across the files instead, oh the joy. I spent roughly an hour i'd say going in there and changing everything. I made all the enemies take 1 hits from punches and from bullets. I didn't cheat, I just modified everything. Best part is I didn't waste so much time and energy.
It takes roughly 11-15 hours to complete this game, unless you miss the "cake" achievement, then that's another 11-15 hours of the grind. The game was interesting but after the first 2 hours it gets so repetitive and the store feels shallow, I feel like the story development was spot on in the beginning but middle towards the end made no sense. I won't spoil the end but audio was, silence isn't the way to go.
I don't even remember buying the game, it's been sitting in my steam library for about 2 years I think. I didn't want to play it but I decided to. I'm glad I 100% the game and beat it.
3/10 For a crappy story and repetitive unfair game play and the crashes.

Consigliato? Nì, diciamo che è un sì con un bel po' di remore.
Ma andiamo per gradi. Cos'è Halfway? Uno gioco strategico a turni dove si controlla una squadra di persone che si trova, suo malgrado, in un incubo di [i]Pandorum[/i] memoria, con una spruzzatina di Event Horizon, ovvero in un'astronave dove il personale si trasforma in mutanti assettati di sangue, e loro devono trovare un sistema per sopravvivere mettendo fine a tutto. Come dite? È una roba vista e rivista? Ebbene sì, ci avete visto giusto, diciamo che la trama non è esattamente il punto di forza di questo gioco. Però giocarlo mentre si guarda sul secondo monitor Event Horizon (da noi chiamato "Punto di non ritorno" - per chi legge Ortolani, Uottefak ha colpito anche qui XD ) gli dà quel tocco in più, personalmente ve lo consiglio.
Il gameplay, a sua volta, è molto classico. Ogni personaggio ha 2 punti azione, che può utilizzare per muoversi, sparare, utilizzare abilità e altre cose del genere. Ognuno di essi ha abilità specifiche ben precise e, nonostante la personalizzazione sia minima (si possono trovare degli stimpak che aumentano le statistiche, ma non c'è una progressione con livelli, alberi delle abilità e via discorrendo), ha ruoli ben specifici: Samuel e Jenna sono cecchini, Linda è una sorta di tank, Thirteen è un picchiatore melee, ecc.. Negli ambienti ci sono ripari che offrono più o meno protezione (usando il classico sistema di X-Com del mezzo scudo / scudo pieno), e di particolare qui c'è lo scudo, che funziona come Borderlands: quando un colpo va a segno, prima toglie lo scudo, quindi i punti vita, e lo scudo, dopo un tot di tempo, si ricarica in automatico. Il gioco è estremamente lineare, ma ci sono alcune missioni secondarie (molto poche, sette di numero se non erro), il party è limitato ad un massimo di quattro membri e, in alcune missioni, alcuni personaggi sono obbligatori. Alla fine di ogni missione si torna al campo base, dove è possibile parlare con i propri commilitoni, gestire l'inventario e riciclare qualsiasi cosa non sia più necessaria per acquistare nuovi rifornimenti.
Teoricamente, non c'è nulla di eclatante, ma di base è fatto bene: il gameplay funziona, graficamente ha un'ottima pixel art, i personaggi hanno una caratterizzazione decente (anche se alcuni punti rimangono, non so se volontariamente, aperti su di loro). E allora perché non lo raccomando pienamente? Perché ha dei GROSSI problemi. In primis, le percentuali di colpire, e di essere colpiti. Ho visto alcuni che postano le immagini di X-Com 2, con la soldatessa che, pur avendo l'arma appiccicata al viso di un alieno, ha solo il 65% di colpire. No, qui è MOLTO peggio. Qui voi vi ritrovate a mancare con il 93% due colpi DI FILA. Si vede che le probabilità non sono quelle scritte, ma sono molto più basse: questo gioco mi ha fatto sclerare male, con interi turni buttati via dove nessun mio personaggio, con percentuali sopra il 60%, riusciva a colpire. E i nemici vi colpiscono quasi sempre, anche sotto la massima copertura, tanto che in alcune missioni bisogna tentare di essere un minimo mobili per tentare di far rigenerare gli scudi. Inoltre, è bilanciato malissimo: le "short range", che dovrebbero essere armi che fanno molto male in quanto hanno range limitato, in realtà spesso fanno addirittura meno danno delle altre, tanto che diventano rapidamente completamente inutili. Le armature sono sballate, ci sono dei nemici che sono puri e semplici "HP sponge" che ti fanno passare la voglia di giocare: non c'è strategia, solo fastidio nell'incontrarli. Svariate arene sono progettate male, senza ripari, in completa balia di palate di nemici che non vi sovrastano solo perché l'IA passa dall'essere troppo intelligente all'essere completamente idiota. E il livello finale... oltre ad essere fatto veramente male - ha forse una delle arene peggio progettate e mal fatte che abbia mai visto in uno strategico - è proprio concepito male. E, rullo di tamburi, la prima volta che ho ammazzato il boss finale (ci sarebbe da parlarne, ma evito spoiler), mi è CRASHATO il gioco: credo di aver tirato tante di quelle bestemmie che al Vaticano devono aver avvertito delle scosse telluriche.
Quindi lo consiglio: nì, perché se si è consci dei problemi è comunque divertente da giocare, ma specie quando supererete la metà del gioco, se siete tipi che si arrabbiano facilmente, fatevi una tisana rilassante prima. XD

At first, the turn-based strategy seemed overly simple: not a lot of options of what you can do, and a lot of waiting around or shifting of teammates before you can finally land a shot (which is solely probability, stats, and somewhat location-based). However, once you pick up more teammates along the way, the options of what you can do and the overall strategies you choose to implement open up a little, and the battles crank up the difficulty quite a bit as the game progresses. Still a bit frustrating when some of your best strategies can feel easily outmatched by the probabilities of shots landed falling more in the enemies' favor, but overall enjoyable and fun. Also, love the background music and story.
Halfway is a nice short pixel tactical RPG. Loved the concept, the simplicity, the feel and the storyline. Would love some more tactical weapon/utility choices late game. Also the open ending without resolution is killing me.
I'm interested in the setting, the plot, but the gameplay itself... For such gameplay developers should be executed in gas chambers.

-Gunfights when you are hited from a miles away but you missed in point blank (I suspect that the same rеtаrdеd script is used here as in the new X-coms when the game hits you with a ruler on the hands for playing well and cheating the chances of being hit) .
-Simply rеtаrdеd game scripts, due to which your softest fighter stands hugging with a pair of enemies after a scripted scene, or 3(!!!) out of 4 fighters are locked for you to choose from and you end up with a maximum of two normal fighters...
-Further from the first mission, you are suffocated by the number of enemies, which is mathematically impossible to digest.
-Each character has only one active and one passive skill...
-Absolute rudimentary tactical element... In a tactical RPG...
-Fixed leveling of characters from 5 special items that can be used by 1 character... But you can find one that will raise only one characteristic, and you can also find one that will raise two... And you have already fed 5 of first to the character...
Unfortunately, this game came out right after the remake of the X-Com series by Firaxis and absorbed its worst features... If the developers made a different tactical system, it could well be a good game...

-Типова дегенеративна система покрокового бою як у нових Х-ком від Фіраксіс у два екшн поінти.
-Перестрілки коли в тебе влучають з кілометра, а ти в притул промахуєшся(підозрюю що тут той самий обісцяний скрипт як і в нових Х-ком коли гра тебе б'є лінійкою по руках за те що ти добре граєш і підкуручує шанси на влучання).
-Просто рагульні скрипти через які твій найм'якіший боєць стоїть у притул до пари мобів після скриптової сцени, або 3(!!!) з 4 бійців у тебе залочені для вибору і ти в результаті максимум із двома нормальними бійцями...
-З первної міссії тебе душать кількістю ворогів котру математично переварити неможливо.
-В кожного персонажа лише одна активна і одна пасивна навичка...
-Абсолютна рудиментарність тактичного елементу... У тактичній РПГ...

Halfway es un juego bonito y con una banda sonora estupenda, que no sabe hacer bien nada de lo que se propone. Toda la mecánica SRPG del juego es un absoluto despropósito de principio a fin. Parafraseándome en El Píxel Ilustre: Halfway tiene una mecánica vaga y muy poco trabajada. Vale que los personajes no ganen experiencia y por tanto no suban de nivel, que las mejoras de atributos estén capadas y termines desperdiciando la mayoría de ellas, pero lo que no vale es que en un SRPG ambientado EN EL INTERIOR DE UNA NAVE ESPACIAL, la mejor arma SIEMPRE sea el rifle de francotirador. Para más inri, las escopetas —de nuevo, en un SRPG ambientado en interiores— son virtualmente inútiles. En fin, una pena.
Very fun turn based, tactical RPG. Characters felt real unique. Story was cool overall, and I hope the creators are planning on a sequel. I'll definitely buy it. Music score is amazing; very Blade Runner.
When the game tells you it's better played at a lower resolution, do it. The game feels pretty laggy if you set it to your monitor's native resolution, and it's more snappy and just more enjoyable played as a retro game. I played it at 1280x720(16:9).
I do have some small complaints: The HUD should have more information, like shields and turns. Inventory space feels too limited, and requires too much micro management, especially when resupplying at base, which I think is why so many people that own this game never finished it. And the difficulty scaling felt a bit off (too easy early and too hard late). I think mods could fix these issues.
But overall, if you enjoy tactical RPGs, definitely give this one a buy. It doesn't have the depth of X-Com or even Hard West. But it's fun for it's 12 hours of gameplay. Im not sure about replayability. I'll update the review when I attempt it. It would all depend if weapons and armor gave much better stats. The normal difficulty was already quite challenging towards the end.
I really wanted to love the game. I really did. I like the premise, the storytelling, the early missions. However, later missions showcase all the flaws of this game. Abysmal RNG (be prepared to miss most of your point-blank and 70/80% shots), scaling up enemies beyond ridiculous values of HP and shield (not to mention the number of enemies in the last mission), NO OVERWATCH (I mean, really, what is it, the 1980s?!)... I could go on like this.
All in all, buy this one only when it's in the bargain bin (below $5), and do not expect to finish it.

A really great mix of genres that could have been a fun experience. Unfortunately it's not fun because you're constantly the subject of cheap irritations that artificially inflate the difficulty. Playing this game you have to assume that the game's rules only apply to you and not your enemies.
They can spawn in and immediately get a full round of attacks.
Fog of war works one way so they always know where you are.
The game can can tell what angle of fire each space gives them before they move, you can't.
The accuracy of weapons is wildly erratic and cover rarely seems to do much for you.
You are always outnumbered even though you deal less damage than your enemies.
The simple art style, game design, and compact size of the game are really great upsides, but the frustration of actually playing it makes it more infuriating and tedious than it is fun.
It's fun but when you lose you have to start the whole level again which means you just wasted 20 minutes. Also, the story gets mighty boring and it has resolution problems designed to be played on smaller screens.
If you're not willing to be ruthlessly efficient in your tactics, even to the point of engaging in some very boring strategies when both you and your enemy have a secure position and don't want to make a move (or can't, if your opponents are immobile), this game might be difficult to enjoy. I've seen numerous claims that the statistics in this game are inaccurately-represented, though to the best of my ability, everything seems completely legitimate. The tactical situations presented will allow you to mess up, and quite badly at that — learning and identifying what stats you want for which characters, making use of consumables and unique character abilities intelligently, and having an overall gameplan when heading into combat are all going to help make this a more enjoyable experience.
With all of that said, although the tactics and resource management are the biggest highlights here, the soundtrack and characterization are great. The story isn't technically amazing, but it kept me interested through to the end. Honestly, the characters and atmosphere are good enough that I would give this game a recommendation to someone who enjoys tactics games/SRPGs but wouldn't normally play a game this obtuse or difficult...though I would give this a hard pass if you're not into tactics or survival games dedicated to resource management (in a Resident Evil 4 sense) at all. There are SRPGs that can cross the boundary and have a wider appeal, but this isn't one of them.
After 10 years of having this game sit in my steam pile I decided to give it a playthrough.
A tentative yes for a bare bones turn based game. The depth of the RPG elements is rather shallow and could have used more polish. Some of the weapon's percentages don't make sense and there's only one real build for the sniper guy to make him viable. I wish I could have had more slots to use all the characters in a mission. Bumping the max squad to six instead of four would be better.
The art style is good and the characters are distinct so they don't blend together. The story itself is decent enough but I feel it too could have had more polish. It left me wanting more.
Overall its a maybe buy at full price. you'll get at least one playthrough for your money. Impulse buy on sale if this kind of game is your jam.
Really good XCOM-style tactical game. Highly enjoyed it. Decent writing too. The game is challenging, but not too difficult if you play right. I managed to beat it without realizing that you could take aim before shooting. Cleared the game Ork-style. If you enjoy games like XCOM, definitely take a stab at this.
Halfway is a tactical squad turn-based game with [b]no RPG elements[/b]. I do not know why this game is tagged with RPG, but you do not manage any stats or any character role throughout the game. The closest quality comparison is X-COM. Quality is unfortunately not present with this title.
You are woken up on some kind of ship capable of FTL, abandoned with some episodic dimensional failures. Think Event Horizon without the actual horror. From the beginning, the game progression is a linear path with few optional levels to play onboard the ship. On your way to the end, you need to wake up more squad members, pick up all resources you find and try to manage keeping up with single clickable sentences posing as a story, that you can not skip. The amount of motivation to go to the end is very low.
The biggest problem in Halfway is the actual game mechanics. Guns are useless. You can stand at point blank from your target and you'll miss, all the time. As soon as you realize this, you'll equip your entire squad with either short range shotgun like weaponry or very long range sniping rifles. But here's the kicker, it makes no difference. The game seems to be rigged. I was so perfect with this tactic that at some point, the game wiped out my party on a single turret. No matter how much damage I did to it, it would just down all my squad.
You're left on an abandoned ship, but for some reason, there's a shop selling you equipment for credits gained by recycling useless junk. Fortunately the game doesn't swamp you in useless junk. Unfortunately, the scheme doesn't work as the guns not working guarantees that you always have to buy tons of ammo. Your squad only has 2 action points per round, which means you rarely do anything involving more than one type of action per round. The amount of strategy is simplified far too much and as a tactical game, it just doesn't work.
Bottom line is this another poorly made tactical game, which relies far too much on completely broken combat resolution. I wouldn't mind restarting levels on failing the tactics to complete them, that's not what is happening. The failures are unfair and childish. The overall quality, testing, presentation is not recommendable, skip it.
Boring turn based combat. Bad script. Skip it.

ну начнём с плюсов:
приятная пиксельная графика, приятные персонажи и довольно классные диалоги между ними которые красят эпизоды между перестрелками
это неоспаримые плюсы.
а теперь минусы:
нескалируемый интерфейс выше hd, что неприятно но не критично
дальше идёт удобство инвентаря, о котором никто не задумывался, места явно хватает для отображения инвентаря всех персонажей, но вместо этого появляется малюююсенький экранчик в котром надо выцелить предмет и передать его нужному персонажу из под менюшки
ну и наконец баланс оружия
я всё понимаю
я далеко не лучший игрок в стратегии что в пошаговые что в реальном времени
но даже я понимаю, что когда у вас толпами валятся враги, которых нужно ковырять по 5-6 ходов ВСЕМ сквадом и которые 2-3 выстрелами сносят пол хлебала - это неправильно
единственное валидное оружие ближе к концу игры - снайперская винтовка, всё остальное бьёт слишком слабо и слишком близко
НУ и не стоит забывать святой рандом при прострелах 5 промахов подряд при шансе в 90-80% это святое
про разброс самого урона я уже молчу
Очень жаль, но утопив 10 часов в игру, которая сначала очаровала своими пероснажими и сеттингом а также сюжетом, могу разве что кинуть её в ящик незаконченными но интересными играми, ибо играть при таких условиях физически больно

If the Devs can sort out a fuller range of resolutions for monitors, allow for zoom in/have the game use the entire screen in full screen, also a much larger UI they could have themselves a keeper, unfortunately...I'm gonna refund
Resolution issues are annoying. Its 2024, please adjust for double monitor setups. I do not want to play in a little box on my high res monitor nor do I want to have exclusive fullscreen which breaks my second monitor.

If you like a small adventure that requires you be at least competent and tactful while at least being able to go through a linear story that kinda plays out character development, then Halfway is for you. It's a story about how crew becomes separated from the rest of reality for briefs moment of time while being lost and sent adrift into deep space. As you go along throughout the ship, you gather more individuals that can fight for you and switch them out for each mission. It's not an easy quest but it certainly will give you a challenge enough to justify the small cost of money you spent.

Really only one glaring flaw. The game is not fun. It's a solid work overall, but just boring to play. There's very little in the way to strategy to employ, it's mostly just an RNG slog of trading potshots to clear out enemies, and there's basically no combat options beyond move and shoot, shoot and move, or shoot better. There's a handful of grenades and a character with a shield removal debuff, but other than that... nada. I just couldn't finish it after weeks of picking it up just to put it down after one mission. Game is just that boring.

I only played through about 5 missions, but the game is dull. Point blank shot only has 68% hit rate lmao, sniper does not seem to work: always has 33% hit rate regardless of distance to target, better equip another shotgun on your sniper and get him close enough to get that 68% hit rate.

Game was very fun and gripping, idk what other reviews are complaining about tbh.
I finally finished the game today after having this collect dust in my library for a very long time. Can't even remember when I actually bought it.
The story was really engaging that I kept trying to find time to complete it. This game isn't without it's flaws, so I will breakdown what I enjoyed and what I didn't.
Pros:
- Engaging story
- Combat was fun (and frustrating)
- Each character has their own unique combat abilities
- Love the graphics, always have a soft spot for pixel graphics.
- Soundtrack is good
Cons:
- Some enemies needs some re-balancing. The accuracy for some of the mobs is just ridiculous. I watch them single out and bully one character and land one shot after another with succession until they are completely down and proceeds to do the same to another. (doubt that will happen now since this game is more than a decade old now). It is almost always that 4 characters, so I am not entirely sure if they were programmed to be that way.
- RNG is a big factor on your characters accuracy (this is coming from having seen my characters miss shot after shot despite having more than 70% accuracy and some over 80%) with their aiming stat at 8 (+1).
- Not being able to revive downed team mates is another frustrating element for me. Once downed, they occupy the square until end of combat. This means if that's the only spot with cover on that side of the map, none for your other characters can utilize that spot until the combat ends.
- The final stage was especially frustrating as you have to "walk" a long period of time before you are in range for combat. So if you're unlucky, by the time you reach the boss, you might already have 4 downed members (the boss is actively shooting you while you get there).
- Inventory management. I'm okay with this but can be frustrating as there is only one character that can carry more than 8 items. So if you're using a gun that eats ammo (and only has 3 ammo), you need to manage it well or have another character carry more ammo for her.
- Wished there was more weapon/armor choices. You will find the same armor with upgraded stats (e.g. Tank Armor I and then II). Would love to see that there was an option to upgrade the weapons with parts or add on (+aiming/+ammo capacity).
-Controller support was abysmal but still usable. So if you're playing this on your steam deck-to-go, have a mouse ready, keyboard would be great but not a necessity. Some buttons have dual functions so you might inevitably activate/cancel/finish your turn without meaning to do so.
Some of the limitations does make the game more challenging, but some of it makes it more frustrating.
I will update this if I have anything else to add, but I would love to see a continuation of this if possible.
TL;DR: 7/10. Solid game, combat is fun but also frustrating. Controller support is janky but still playable.

Halfway è un gioco che, nonostante non sia certo un capolavoro, fa bene il suo lavoro. Diverte, pone sfide non semplici da superare e racconta una storia che, sebbene sia secondaria ai fini del gioco e non sia raccontata nel modo più originale di sempre, è sicuramente piacevole da ascoltare; è una buona alternativa a titoli magari più completi come Shardpunk: Verminfall, considerando anche che Halfway si trova spesso in offerta a prezzi stracciati.

Technically well executed, and charming, but not *that* fun or engaging. Certainly not worth full price. Maybe try it out when it is massively discounted.

No i cant. I really wanted to love this, even something a little different for me and i hated this. I just cant, the people with negative reviews i saw had same things i did. The hit chance is awful when you have 50% to hit and you miss every time you attack thats ridiculous. Combat is tedious and the with the hit rate makes it waaaaaaaaaaaay worse. Really wanted to like this game but i dont think it even plays something its idk a clunky feel? i could have got past some of that but i cant with this game. i got this for free from my brother on my birthday.

Great pixel art, excellent atmosphere BUT the turn based tactical combat is awful. The chance to hit % for enemies in weapon range and out of cover are ridiculously low. There is very little tactical information provided by the UI making the outcome of each turn even more random. I love the XCOM genre but this just wasn't fun.

Yeah no. Not for me. I was hoping for a game that was something like XCom, or maybe Shadowrun Returns -style combat. This has some of the gameplay with some pretty frustrating design choices that made it far less fun. Like ammo. I ran out of ammo pretty quickly and realized that inventory restrictions meant ammo scarcity was going to be a thing throughout this game. There's enough frustrations in the gameplay to add ammo conservation on top of it.
I enjoyed this game a lot! The story was basic, but engaging. I really liked the gameplay, though I will say the UI was a little clunky (I wish the hotkeys were clearer). But overall, I highly recommend it if you are looking for a fun, short, turn-based strategy game.

Nice short play love the old school Contra vibes but like I guess a Contra Tactics? yea love it.
It has charm and atmosphere, but the tedious combat, monotonous levels, negligible strategy required, and lack of a meaningful sense of progression made Halfway a DNF for me.
This is more of an informational first impressions review:
The gameplay is almost identical to XCOM. It has the same half-cover/full-cover system, it tells you probabilities that your attacks will hit, it has 2-actions-per-character. It has one big difference: Ammunition management. You characters can and will run out of ammo during a fight. You'll need to find more during the battle, or have your squadmates share their magazines.
The second thing that stands out is the enemy A.I. is stellar. It felt like I was playing against a real person. It tries to win. Legitimately the best A.I. of this genre I've seen. Do not expect this game to feel easy.
The story probably gets going later in the game, but in the first hour it's virtually nonexistent.
XCOM did a better job of hooking me in with its polish and story. Go play that first. But if you've already played that and want more, I think this is going to be one of the best alternatives.
Was never ever a fan of turn based fighting in these games, but man this game turned me on to it. I really dig the look and story. It looks pretty easy but its not. challenging enough but not too tough that you wont enjoy it. Exploring is fun and the effects are sweet. The music/score is on point as well, puts you in a atmospheric vibe. Man for the price everyone who likes this genre should definitely cop this game.
its nice to play a little one and done 15-20 hour turn based strategy game. this game is not the most amazing game ever but it was fun from beginning to end. Just solid simple game mechanics with a simple scifi story to go with it. for the price i can defiantly recommend, my only question is will their be a sequel?
Fun at first but as you go on the enemies become unfun to fight. The AI could use some improvement as it becomes to challenging to be fun. Challenging in a frustrating way not challenging in a fun way. Did not finish the game as this became too annoying for me to want to deal with.
