For anyone about to call me names, just know that I have beaten this game and gotten the no deaths achievement on two other consoles with far less issue; I've earned the right to complain. This version has no way to X out before the game counts your loss, meaning if you want the achievement for no deaths, you have to do a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Iron Man run. Here's my stance on why that sucks: it isn't about making it through the game with no deaths, it's about making it through the game without a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ save system. ♥♥♥♥ that ♥♥♥♥. Stop counting my deaths against me and let me f**king save. I can't make it through the harder levels in the latter half unless I can trial & error my way through that. The fact you see fit to punish the necessary trial & error is what earns you my hatred. Stop forcing me to have to erase my file and start over and let me f**king save. It's a platformer, not a 9-5 job, it should not require the same stress reserved for brain surgery.

While I do think Gunman Clive 2 is overall an improvement from the first game, it's not without its quirks. Gunman Clive 2 has a more grand adventure than the first game; while the first game was mostly a western setting minus the final world, this is more of a globe-trotting adventure, starting in the Wild West and then ending up in places like Russia, Australia, Japan, South America, China, etc. The variety in settings definitely allowed for more creative level design as well. There is also more of a variety of music in this game, and the music selection in this game is quite good. It plays just like the first game, retaining its solid platforming controls. Where this game ends up slacking a bit is in some of the extra characters you can play as. Gunman Clive plays great and Mrs. Johnson (like Clive but with a SMB2 Peach hover) plays good as well. The problem is with the other two playable characters. The final character (who I won't specify for spoiler sake) doesn't have it too bad, but the main gimmick of that mode is not being able to attack but having better mobility. Not being able to attack is a problem in vehicle stages and, while the better mobility is actually usually more of a boon, it can be kind of a bane in areas with wonky gravity mechanics. The character to definitely get the worst of it is Chieftain Bob. If Gunman Clive is Mega Man, Chieftain Bob is Zero. He goes around with a low range melee spear, though the spear does do double damage. Bob's low range not only is a problem in the vehicle stages like with the final character (basically not being able to hit the vehicles most of the time due to your poor range) but there are segments of the game and even entire boss fights that become insufferable due to your lack of range. Also, for some reason, they didn't think to give Bob power-ups like they did Clive and Johnson. Chieftain Bob is definitely a low point of the game, which is a shame since I actually really like the idea of him conceptually. Overall, a pretty solid game with a couple minor quirks that I would recommend to any fan of side scrolling platformers like Mega Man and Contra, especially if they were fans of the first game.

[review notes: I beat the game with all 4 characters on Hard Mode. Each individual playthrough is about 2 hrs long; I left the game idle a bit]

Gunman Clive 2 is a worthy sequel to the first in basically every way. The first thing you'll notice is that the artstyle and color scheme are ratcheted up a notch; you can tell the developers were clearly emboldened by the response to the first game's style and were even more stylistic this time. Set pieces and environments are bolder and more creative: no longer just a Western, this game has you traversing the entire world and even outer space by the end. Gameplay is more varied too, with more stages this time as well as more non-platforming stages, which spice up the fun.

The game hits a nice sweetspot in difficulty, though it might be a tad bit too easy. As this is a trial and error platformer, once you know what lies ahead, you'll do better and better.

Boss battles are simple, standard video game bosses (except the final boss, which is far more inventive, albeit a bit too easy. Nearly impossible to die to that guy). Most of the platforming gives you extremely generous windows, and as with Gunman Clive 1, there's nothing particularly innovative here. The soundtrack is a bit bland I'd say; the art is the centerpiece. The story and vibes might as well not matter, but I still enjoyed the whimsy of it.

Doing only one playthrough is so short that I recommend running the other characters to really get value out of the experience. Yes, it's nearly the same, but each character adds a nice wrinkle that makes them worth doing. The Duck / pacifist mode makes a return, which is really fun, but Chieftan Bob, a melee character, was actually my most fun playthrough I'd say. There are many situations which are easy with one of the gun-toting characters, but require entirely unique solutions for Bob. Pretty cool.

Gunman Clive 2 is a tried and true platformer that's rock solid in the mechanics it borrows from other games. There's nothing new here, but it's just good solid fun. Worth playing for sure, and a very worthy sequel. I haven't played the rest of Horberg's other games, but I'll be honest ... just clicking on the Steam pages for them makes me feel like they're nowhere near this quality? Like, how are these all even made by the same guy? I'd love to be wrong but part of me wonders: why not just make a Gunman Clive 3? This series deserves to make a return; he really did something special here.

When you launch the game you'll get the following message: "One or more shaders failed to compile. Continue anyway?"
If you click Yes, the first 2 levels look normal, the 3rd one is blurry and has graphics missing such as platforms, making it impossible to beat. It seems to be a "new" error.

A really nice and entertaining game! A great improvement from the frist Gunman Clive, with lots of new enemies, obstacles, mechanics and ambiences, but with the same delightful essence!

Comments after finishing the game: it manages to be, indeed, a lot better than its predecessor! This game is a fun travel around the world with interesting mechanics, smooth gameplay, pleasant visuals and challenging boss fights!

Bertil Hörberg certanly is a man of great vision and imagination. An authentic artist!

Well, in my opinion this game is modest but it is inspired by the best, as well as bringing in icons from the 80s, and it executes everything in a more than satisfactory manner.

Shigeru Miyamoto once said video games are not art. I could imagine why was he saying that but I rather used to disagree. However I can understand him here. I would like to vindicate video games as "toy" to have fun.
In fact, when I started liking video games they "weren't" art.

So, here's supposedly how the meeting went: "hey, we just released our first game and we put in some of the worst possible mechanics in all of video gaming stolen from the 8 bit and 16 bit eras of video games, so now what?" The reply came "let's add even more of the worst possible mechanics to put inside of a video game!" In this aspect, this game clearly surpasses its original but it is in the worst possible way.

From the few minutes I played, I can confidently state that now we have AI enemies that read your inputs and react, even if it makes no sense, like one enemy jumped because I jumped when he was completely safe from me and any possible bullets I can fire. Furthermore, there were some annoying pixel-perfect jumps in the first game but there were like three. Three total. In the first couple of levels, this game already had like five and that's when I decided I've had enough of this game. No, I didn't beat it. I have no patience for something that's designed to be stupid to play.

Improves everything about the first game! A fun, short, and fairly decent challenge! Has 4 characters that play quite differently that make going back to replay a lot of fun. I only have a couple gripes like the circular gravity sections not feeling great but it's a great game nonetheless.
Also don't start with chieftain bob, do one of the other two first.

Where the ♥♥♥♥ to start?

The first Gunman Clive is a fun, albeit short, sidescroller adventure shoot’em up game. It was challenging, but it was engaging and fun, above all else, it had different difficulty settings that were all in all, for the most part, well balanced.

This sequel, has more characters, more gameplay diversity, and even a richer colour pallet, but at its core, the philosophies of the game design have changed and sadly, they have changed for the worse…

The game is relentlessly difficult and around halfway through, as soon as I got to a level where you’re on rails on top of a panda running away from a buzzsaw, after dying more than 30 times, I just decided to call it quits, it wasn’t… Frustrating perse, like it wasn’t so much that it angered me, as much as that it got tiresome and annoying after a while, and as such, I just didn’t really felt like playing it any longer, eventually, it felt like a waste of time, it’s a shame too because the difficulty settings don’t do anything for that level (really makes you think why have difficulty settings at that point), it’s as if the developers deliberately wanted to artificially prolong the duration of the game by lengthening it with an absurd amount of difficulty that isn’t balanced, nor is it fair; as such, the game turns into a tedious exercise in patience.

Even the new character isn’t that good, it just seems as if an alternate difficulty mode given that he doesn’t have a ranged attack, just an spear that can get enemies at short range…

The game is good, the art style is wonderful, the new character is also a fine addition. The levels are alright, the music is even better, and the enemy variety is even bigger.
I do feel like that there should be checkpoints for these somewhat bigger and harder levels, also it's sad that there are fewer weapons now to pick up. I know the other ones weren't that different, but I see it as a downgrade. For some reason tho, my pc runs this game very unstably, doesn't feel like 60fps
I do love these gimmick levels tho, it was a real surprise.

Short passable side scrolling action game with a lot of mostly dull platforming but a nice unique art style that looks really good in its few on rail shooting segments. Loses the western theme fast to have you fighting ninja, on top of dinosaurs, on sinking ships, and in areas with shifting gravity. Basically a better version of the first game.

A 2D platformer + shooter where you might right (and up) to get to the end of a level without dying. The controls are fine but aiming backwards if finicky especially when you’re at the edge of a small platform. The levels are challenging enough and the additional characters get harder so it’s fun to go through the levels with them (especially once you get a feel for the levels). It’s not amazing or anything and the level themes and art direction in the first game was much better. Get it on sale if you want something to blow through. It’s fine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Платформер с приятной графикой, разнообразным геймплеем и кучей коротких, но интересных уровней. Вторая часть стала еще интереснее и насыщеннее. Сюжета по прежнему нет, но вот локаций по которым мы будем путешествовать вдоволь - нам придется путешествовать по всему земному шару. Каждая локация это новый антураж и тематика страны куда мы попадаем, например в Китае мы будем кататься на панде... Персонажи остались все старые - ковбой, девка, утка (после прохождения игры) и добавился новый герой - индеец. Уровни также постоянно удивляют чем-то новым, вот мы бежим по пустыне и тут вдруг в пещере, а потом сражаемся с роботом, уничтожаем тиранозавра, летим на птеродактиле и т.п. Очень порадовало исправление управления, а также крутые версии боссов. На последнего босса я потратил 2 часа при сложности Normal. Что уж говорить о сложностях выше и это настоящий вызов для любителей трудных достижений. Однозначно рекомендую и очень был бы рад увидеть третью часть игры когда нибудь.

Sequel to the first, gameplay looks exactly the same. The story however is different, and the setting of the story is much more intense than the first, and a bit more difficult as well. Which is what I like, a sequel thats actually harder than the previous. Theres a bit more characters you can play from, if you are up for a single playthrough then its short. Still, its a nice game to play if you like platforming.

手書き感あるグラフィックが良く、絶妙な難易度で進んでいける横スクロールアクションです。
死亡しても瞬時にリトライできるのであまりストレスを感じさせない作りになっていると感じた。
前作の「Gunman Clive」と比べ、今作はジャングルや日本のような世界観もあり、3Dシューティング要素も盛り込まれている。
実績解除しようとすると結構なやりこみが必要になるのも面白いと思った。
1ステージが短く、全クリにも1時間ほどでサクッとできるのでおすすめです。

У разработчика этой игры есть чувство меры и этого сильного не хватает большей части индиделов.
На каждом уровне игра дает какие-то новые механики и комбинирует их друг с другом, но при этом чувствует, когда механика начинает надоедать и идёт дальше. Рекомендуется начинающим разработчикам и вообще людям, интересующимся геймдизайном.
Если с точки зрения просто поиграть - то два часа разнообразного платформинга с хорошей музыкой. Четыре персонажа и задротные ачивки на нодамаг и спидран. Сюжета нет.

This game is soo frustratingly difficult, and to such an extend where it's no logner fun to play. Instead of skill the difficulty is mostly based on random chance. I mean siriously there are some parts of the game where the chances of you not getting a hit are like maybe 5 %, and the worst of all the game knows about it, because it gives you a full health just so you can make it througt that part. Also many of the new mechanics are really jakny and the flying and horse ridding controls are just terrible. in general this game is just not well designed at all, even the colour scheme makes no sense. To sum it up : After I finished playing the original Gunman Clive I totally loved it and knew that I would play it many more times again (which I did), but now that i finished Gunman Clive 2 I totally hate this game and never want to play it again !!!

Unrelentingly charming from beginning to end. Manages to combine a sense of nostalgia for the games of your youth, while adding brand new ideas that were all but impossible on those machines you played in your younger days.

It's also tremendously varied for a game of its length.

Can be a little frustrating at times. On certain levels and boss mobs I had to turn the game off and come back to it after a few minutes cooldown.

Over-all a great expansion of the idea's, graphics and gameplay of the original.

Znaczne lepszy od jedynki.
Rozgrywka to solidny oldskulowy platformer.
Poziomy są zróżnicowane, a do tego jest sporo unikalnych i bardzo ciekawych mechanik, jak jazda na pandzie, modyfikujące grawitacje miejsca. Walki z bossami są bardzo ciekawe i przyjemne. Małym minusem poziomów jest fakt, że do przejścia wymagają zapamiętania niektórych sekwencji ponieważ nie wszystko da się ominąć za pomocą refleksu.
Przeciwnicy są zróżnicowani i wpisują się w motyw poziomów.
Negatywnie wypadają pseudo 3D poziomy na szynach (a'la Starfox). Sterowanie w nich jest niezbyt czytelne i bardziej frustrują niż bawią.
Grafika jest bardzo kolorowa i ładna.
Muzyka wpada w ucho, zwłaszcza podczas walk z bossami.

I described the first game as, "Megaman, as a western, except for boss weapons. Fantastic music!" And in true Megaman tradition, the next game is much the same, and a little bit better. Beating the game was enough for me, but if you consider yourself a pro, there's opportunities for speedrunners or beating the game under different circumstances with different characters.(which the first game also allowed you to do)

Gunman Clive 2 continues the zany nature of the original with more creative, well-designed levels and gameplay. I highly recommend it, as well as the original, if you're a fan of Mega Man-style platformers.

The game packs a lot of variety in locations, enemies and gameplay mechanics. Compared to the original, it's more colorful, it has an even better soundtrack, and the levels are expertly paced to throw new and clever gameplay ideas at you constantly. Not a single screen is wasted and everything feels meticulously planned.

I really have nothing negative to say about it. This is a textbook example of a great platformer.

Gunman Clive 2 is one of the best Tactial shooter this game is for the fact that the look of the game is beatuiful and how the game plays some or more then the time is weapons and how great some of the weapons were in the patches but it is a real fun game of you want to get scared or killing this game is for you but. of you don't like that then leave but i leave you with this get busy killing or get busy dying.

This is better than the first one in every single way.

The physics are more polished, the level design is even more creative (shockingly so), the enemies are more weird and challenging, the variety in the different areas is impressive, the bosses are even better, and the music is a huge improvement.

There are new gameplay styles to deal with, new uses for old mechanics, and new colors to pop out of the screen. Even if you own the 3DS version, this is worth it just for the graphical improvements from that version.

It's well-made, it's fun, it's got good music, it's got a panda, and it's three bucks. Buy it. Awesome job, Mr. Horberg!

Чувствуется некая легкомысленность. Как будто игра сделана не до конца. Тем не менее, первые впечатления очень хорошие.
Рандома почти нет. Можно и нужно выучить расположение врагов и платформ и уже потом можно будет играть в полную меру.
Также, некоторые уровни показались нелогичными... Но это не помешало мне наиграться вдоволь.

Superou o primeiro. Continua com o mesmo gameplay, porém esse aqui é mais difícil (tanto as fases quanto os bosses), mais longo e maior variedade de inimigos e fases. E ainda tem mais um personagem jogável que só ataca [i]melee[/i], que talvez seja até mais difícil que o [b]Duck Mode[/b], ainda não testei para dizer.

Concluindo: É um ótimo jogo de plataforma que você tem que jogar, principalmente se você curtiu o primeiro jogo.

Tight controls, four playable characters, unique art style. For the price, this is a really solid game. I'm surprised that there are so few reviews for this one compared to the original (which is also excellent). Unfortunately, it seems like a lot of people have missed this gem. I would highly recommend Gunman Clive 2, especially for fans of 2D platformers.

Ein Sidescroller Western Action Game im Stile von MegaMan und Co.

Einzelspieler:

Man spielt wieder entweder einen Cowboy Clive, eine Lady, eine Ente oder einen Indianer. Der Cowboy Clive hat eine Standard Steuerung, die Lady kann alles was Clive kann aber kann nach einem Sprung noch etwas Schweben und die Ente hat keine Waffen und kann Fliegen bzw. flattern, was der Indianer kann weis ich nicht..

Man läuft von links nach rechts und schiesst die Gegner aber auftauchen, ab und zu lassen die Gegner dann neue Waffen und Energie fallen um sich aufzubessern. Nach einer gewissen Anzahl an Leveln erwartet einen dann ein Boss um die nächsten Level freizuschalteten. Es gibt neue Level Spezialwelten wo man Reiten, fliegen uvm. Machen muss, leider Steuern die sich am schlechtesten. Es wurden im auch teilweise neue Elemente im zweiten Teil eingebracht wie das man an gewisse Oberflächen dran gesaugt wird und man 360° umlaufen kann. Leider ist das soetwas von schlimm zu Steuern das es wirklich nervt.

Die Grafik und das Design ist wirklich sehr passen zum Western Spiel.

Die Musik ist ganz OK, zum Anfang sehr passen aber manchmal wirkt es sehr unpassend.

Die Steuerung Ok, der Charakter steuert sich sehr schwammig was es nicht gerade einfacher macht.

Fazit:

Ich war schon vom ersten Teil nicht so begeistert aber für Fans denke ich ist es schon einen Blick wert. Der Schwierigkeitsgrad ist ganz gut gewählt, aber auf Normal bin ich gut durchgekommen. Es hat schon sehr abwechslungsreich Level aber zum Ende wird es wirklich etwas nervig und teilweise passt es einfach gar nicht rein (wie an Wänden und Decken laufen). Es ist schon eine gute Fortsetzung die aber hätte besser sein können, leider ist es wieder wie in Teil 1 auch das hier auch immer Glück im Spiel sein muss um gut durchzukommen, den die Gegner Dropen nur selten Waffen

Es ist sicherlich für MegaMan Fans eher was als wie für mich der MegaMan nie grossartig gespielt hat. Mit Clive braucht man circa 1 Stunde also circa 3 Stunden mit allen Charakteren was ganz OK ist. Wer also auf so etwas steht wird hier sicherlich seinen Spass haben, aber für mich war es nichts.

Totally awesome. Better than the first (which is also great). It's a very well-rounded platformer with a healthy mix of enemies and obstacles. Gameplay is not too long and not too short. The difficulty settings and varying attack styles of the different characters give it a nice amount of replay value. It's the right amount of challenging for something to enjoy - not excrutiatingly difficult but not too easy.

My new favorite game. The animation - especially in the dinosaur world - is awesome.

Clive is back pour une aventure en mode plus plus plus. Plus de niveaux, plus de personnages jouables et plus d’ennemis. La difficulté a été revue à la hausse et les boss ne se laissent plus faire si facilement. Deux fois plus long que son prédécesseur et également doté d’une bonne rejouabilité, Gunman Clive 2 propose un voyage fantasque entre Far West, monts enneigés et terres préhistoriques oubliées. Tous les éléments de gameplay du premier sont de retour, et certaines nouveautés bien senties font leurs apparitions (séquences en véhicule en simili-mode 7 ou à dos d’animal, gravité circulaire, etc).

Le chef indien, nouveau personnage jouable, dispose d’une seule attaque au corps-à-corps et d’un saut mieux maitrisé - deux éléments qui apportent au gameplay fraicheur et nouveauté.

Le second opus de la franchise ne révolutionne rien mais confirme avec talent les acquis du premier et se permet même d’aller plus loin. Doté d’une animation toujours au top, d’une bande-son plus étudiée et d’une longévité accrue, le titre est un hommage réussi aux productions de l’ère 8/16bits. Vivement la suite.

Con gli indie piattaforma è sempre un terno al lotto: a volte si prendono certe fregature incredibili, altre volte si assiste a uno scopiazzamento generale, mentre poche volte arriva al miracolo. Gunman Clive 2 non è sicuramente il miracolo, così come non lo era il suo predecessore, ma per quanto abbia notato e segnato su un taccuino tutti quegli elementi che, di fatto, sono dei simpatici tributi al passato, continuo a provare un profondo affetto per i prodotti del buon Bertil Hörberg.

Anche perché il secondo capitolo del simpatico pistolero è perfettamente in linea con quanto già visto nel primo episodio (di cui vi abbiamo già parlato con piacere): destreggiandosi tra salti e scalinate, il buon Gunman Clive dovrà far fuori nemici e avversità per giungere alla fine del suo tragitto. Se però nel primo capitolo il nostro compito era salvare la bella Ms Johnson, adesso sia il nostro cowboy sia la bella figliola saranno da subito disponibili per affrontare i 23 quadri della campagna di base, con l’aggiunta di un nuovo terzo personaggio: il capo indiano.

Com’è facile immaginare, i tre personaggi avranno un sistema di gioco peculiare, dal più classico cowboy che spara da lontano, alla signorina che ricalca fedelmente la buona Princess Peach con dei salti “plananti”, fino al pellerossa armato di lancia che, invece, si darà al combattimento corpo a corpo. Una soluzione sicuramente da apprezzare rispetto al primo episodio, in cui assistiamo a una modifica tecnica dell’approccio alle singole sfide che dovremo affrontare. In fondo, come dicevo, i quadri non hanno particolari caratteristiche per i quali ci ricorderemo di Gunman Clive 2, ma l’idea di ambientare il percorso dei nostri eroi dalla west coast americana fino allo spazio ha permesso a Hörberg Productions di personalizzare le singole location con elementi molto simpatici. Fra tutti, spiccano sicuramente i livelli a cavallo di dinosauri o marchingegni vari, i quali trasformeranno questo carinissimo platform in un arcade di volo (con grande citazione di StarFox), o ancora un Tetris “in terza persona”, o più semplicemente un rimando ben più ovvio a capolavori indipendenti quali VVVVVVVV.

Probabilmente non il gioco più originale dell’anno, ma la cura e l’amore messi dallo sviluppatore rendono Gunman Clive 2 un gioiellino che difficilmente potrà deludervi. Basti pensare anche alla ricercatezza grafica del tratto a matita, ora perfino a colori. Bello da vedere e soprattutto reso in maniera davvero molto piacevole nonostante l’ovvia semplicità. Per di più, il gioco è accompagnato da una colonna sonora bellissima, a tema e sempre incalzante, tanto che non sarebbe affatto male poterla sentire anche al di fuori del contesto ludico. Insomma, rispetto al primo episodio, è indubbio come Gunman Clive 2 ne sia a tutti gli effetti un’ottima evoluzione ideologica e di sviluppo, in particolare grazie all’attenzione verso un game design semplice, ma sempre coinciso, diretto. Un plauso va anche al bellissimo lavoro compiuto per gli scontri contro i boss: sempre più grossi e sempre più cattivi, la scalata che vi porterà ad affrontare il cattivone finale è simpatica e, nonostante i pattern facili da identificare, il livello di sfida assicura un impegno via via maggiore per poter essere completato.

A chiudere tutto abbiamo, come sempre, la modalità papero, in cui controlleremo un anatroccolo disarmato che dovrà affrontare tutti i vari livelli senza colpire o farsi colpire i nemici. Un giochillo di fatto, che non si discosta affatto dalla sua semplice richiesta di soli 3 euro per essere acquistato su Steam. Non vi durerà più di un’ora, un’ora e mezza, ma se volete supportare questo simpatico e visionario sviluppatore indipendente, sappiate che il poco tempo speso su Gunman Clive 2 non sarà sicuramente deludente.
Ho cavalcato uno pterodattilo e affrontato la segreta seta dei paperi assassini grazie a un codice gentilmente offerto dagli sviluppatori.

CONSIGLIATO A
Chi non l'ha ancora giocato su 3DS, chi ha apprezzato il primo capitolo, chi cerca un gioco piattaforma semplice ma stiloso, chi vuole un giochino che dura poco, ma che sa regalare quell'oretta e mezza di divertimento old school che ogni tanto serve.

Chi cerca un gioco con grafica all'ultimo grido, chi vuole un gioco piattaforma con enigmi ambientali, terza dimensione e compagnia bella.

总体来说就是猫里奥加一条命的合金弹头，刚上手难度偏高，但关卡毫无随机性可言，熟能生巧而已。关卡设计思路独树一帜，包括俄罗斯方块的出现让人耳目一新，然而并没有什么用。

难度比起1代上升了不知道多少个level，真的好难。
才打到第二个Boss，每一关就都会死好多次（手残慎入，不得不服……）。
比起1代内容丰富了不少，可玩性强了很多。
添加的新元素常常让人眼前一亮，可以看出作者是真的很用心，是非常完美的续作。
