This is a fantastic roguelike with some truly unique and innovative mechanics that make it a novel standout in the genre. It simplifies a lot of the typical monotony of going through menus in favor of immediately equipping better equipment when you pick it up and auto selling inferior equipment to the merchant as well. The systems are very streamlined but at the same time every run feels completely different due to the different disguises giving totally different foundations for characters which will then be further differentiated by which grimoires you find for spells, the stat choices you make leveling up, which potions you find, etc.
Juggling human and vampire form is a genuine task, there are many benefits to staying a vamp like being physically superior, healing off of enemy blood (so combat leads directly to your heal condition), not needing to worry about the limited food resource, not having the vampires attack you in the hotel, etc.. but all the humans will attack you, your HP slowly drains if you don't have blood, sunlight will RUIN you (and the game has a day / night cycle with looots of windows in the hotel) and you lose all access to your spells (though vamps can get their own abilities).. this all adds up to a constant tug-o-war between human / vamp form I really like in practice. You're always wondering if you want to waste a soul elixir to turn back human or just trudge on further, or panicking because you don't have an elixir and it's almost daybreak.. there's a timer that always ticks down bringing you closer to vamping out so you can't stay human forever. I really like how they implemented this mechanic, balancing your time between both forms is very important to success in this game which makes GKH stand apart from other roguelikes just by itself.. but there's a lot of other cool stuff going on under the hood.
This isn't a super deep, complex roguelike that'll take you 500H just to beat once, but it has very engaging, fun and tactical gameplay with enough depth to keep it all together.. the gameplay loop of this one is probably one of the best I've seen in the genre and it always leaves you ready to start a new run when you die.. which you will be doing a LOT by the way as this game does not pull its punches. I'd give this one a solid 9.5/10, it's a phenomenal game.
An excellent, approachable roguelike that does not sacrifice dynamism or tactical depth. Not the largest variety, but what variety that is there combined with the many classes is enough to sustain many hours of fun.

I'm having fun exploring what's in different floors, the flavour of the game is pretty 'engaging' (lore, setting and how mechanics fall into those), feels like it's a combo or "puzzle" roguelike where you're collecting tools in order to get the run you need, that mystery there is fun for now.

Golden Krone Hotel es un excelente exponente del Roguelike tradicional, que sabe muy bien introducir a aquellos curiosos en el género, presentando un juego simple a primera vista, pero complejo, con una interfaz limpia, diferentes maneras de poder controlarlo, suficientes opciones para contentar tanto a novatos como asiduos y el contenido necesario para poder disfrutarse un puñado de horas. Si bien no es fácil, sigue siendo una fascinante puerta de entrada, no muy cara y que puede dar para muchos runs divertidísimas o para incluso poder completarlo de una sentada en una tarde si eres capaz de dominar sus sistemas.

Fantastic! You'll be in another world, a world that feels like the world of your 8th grade, but also inside of a Commodore Amiga.
Good game. Really cool mechanics, approachable controls, nice animations, varied levels.
The main unique mechanic is you turn into a vampire after X turns (or you can do it early if you want). You can change back with a common item. I like routing out when I want to be a vampire and when I want to be human, and I like how it changes up my playstyle as I go.
I love the item identification and I think it should be in every game.
I like how many areas there are, even though most of them are super deadly. The game is fairly short, which helps.
I totally suck at the game but I like it
This is a very pleasant and simple traditional roguelike. It takes many of its levels and enemies from other traditional roguelike classics, but adds interesting vampirism and daytime cycle mechanics to the formula, which give it a distinct character and individuality. Straightforward controls, no inventory management, no wands to worry about, best equipment autoequips, and the usual potion identifying minigame is much more manageable due to the game showing you three potion types that any particular unidentified potion could possibly be. Fun and easy to git gud at, at least on the normal difficulty. An easy recommendation, especially at its price.
Some negatives: the lorebooks, while numerous, are not very interesting; it is sometimes difficult to see items behind other items, for example, potions behind window panes along the bottom of the map; normal difficulty feels too easy after a few runs (i feel i could get long winstreaks pretty easily), while "despair" difficulty feels too hard (only won once after dozens of attempts) -- i wish there was something in-between; and despite there being a website that keeps track of all the high scores, including weeklies, getting a high score does not seem very fun: once you have a good enough character, you can seemingly grind for score forever.

Very solid traditional rougelike. The OST is surprisingly nice too.
If I had to nitpick, the only issue I had is that it's extremely hard to get the spell you want from a grimoire (you get 3-5 choices) - it very rarely lets you upgrade the spells you already have. Especially for the casters that start with a certain spell.
For example, there's a class Bombardier that starts with the Bomb spell, however even after 12-15 grimoires at the end of the game, it never once let me upgrade the Bomb ability, and that kind of ruins the class you're supposed to be playing (since their special ability is tied to the Bomb spell).
Same with the class that starts with the Miasma spell, it never let me upgrade it. Seems almost like a bug. It seemed easier to upgrade a spell you learn during the run, but still very inconsistent.
When you do get to upgrade your spells, spellcasters are ridiculously powerful though.
Melee builds are more consistent in my experience, but for sure less OP.
Fun game.
One of my favorite roguelike games to keep coming back to. It has simple controls and is easy to get into. It has a lot of depth and replay ability. With all the different characters, floors, items makes each run new.
It is really enjoyable to play on the steam deck. It should be marked as fully Steam Deck Compatible.
Somewhat short, good amount of replayability, lots of charm. Excellent for the price, especially on sale. Gameplay is relatively simple compared to some roguelikes, especially traditional ones. Your character won't have 40 skills, 12 attributes, or hundreds of spells and magical items. However, the balancing act between human and vampire, the wide variety of enemies, and the straightforward gameplay is a lot of fun. In many roguelikes, the strategic gameplay is more important than the tactical, so mistakes in the long game can make the short game miserable. The focus here on the tactical(diversity of room types, surprises from enemies, terrain manipulation, and so on) is perfect for the intended playtime. Had a lot of fun with it, and the short&sweet nature of most runs contributed to that. I will say that a couple of gameplay elements weren't super clear, such as how sometimes drinking demon blood would give me an ability as a vampire, and sometimes it wouldn't. Especially when slurping it off the floor. Additionally, while most of the branches have a lot of character and good theming, a couple felt lackluster. Workshop and Mausoleum were a bit boring, but Hive, Baths, Gallery, Pharmacopoeia, and Grotto were all neat.
Overall one of the best games I've purchased for $2 this decade. Instant buy at that price if you find it at all intriguing. Well worth it at full price as well, especially if you have friends or family you want to introduce to the genre.

Okay so pretty much what all the positive reviews are saying here are true about this little unknown gem of a roguelike. It's very barebones by traditional roguelike metrics but in a really good way. Literally no busywork just gameplay. Very happy about this purchase. If your into roguelikes of the same genre getting this is a no brainer.

I started playing this game because people on reddit recommended it as a traditional roguelike for people who are either unfamiliar with the genre, or who find the demands of learning a trad roguelike to be offputting (me). This game is streamlined in a beautiful way and while I'm sure it leads to its own issues, it's a very pleasant experience. You can use just keyboard, just controller, just mouse, or a combination.
You don't need to micro-manage the items you pick up, the game manages them for you automatically. Reading bits of lore you pick up is purely optional. Engaging with the story is mostly done by talking to NPCs, which I largely skip but I like that A) the option is there for players who want to see more of the world and B) it's non-essential for players like me.
This is clearly the work of a developer who loves the genre, understands what makes it fun, and wants to provide the easiest entry possible. I've played 14 hours and I've gotten a few wins so far, all on Easy, but it is a difficult game even then. Its difficulty challenges your decision-making in a way that feels fair and rewarding. I can't remember feeling like I've lost a run due purely to luck, it has almost always been some sort of mistake or misunderstanding on my part.
I've encountered no bugs, everything just works. It's remarkably easy to get into and I would absolutely recommended it for anyone with an interest in this kind of game. If you're a hardcore traditional rougelike player, this game's systems may be less sophisticated than you're used to. That could be a deal-breaker for some but I still think, if you like the genre, this one is worth trying.

A fun traditional roguelike that isn't afraid to twist some conventions to make a fresh and tight game. Great pixel art and theme, and who doesn't love vampires?
You can tell the dev understands exactly what makes roguelikes good. Accessible and fun, meant to be a "coffee break" game. It gets incredibly cheap on sale, worth picking up.
It's a good roguelike and well polished by a developer who is obviously a solid student of game design, but regrettably I think it's just a little bit too short and lacking in depth to be satisfying for me as a "traditional" roguelike, speaking as a longtime fan of the genre. I understand this was no doubt an intentional design choice, but I must say I found myself missing the epic adventure part of rogueliking while playing Golden Krone Hotel even as I was very much enjoying not having my ass kicked quite so frequently as would be normal. You may find yourself missing this a little bit too if you are a fan of the oldschool. It's a title that's more approachable for a new generation and a new era, for better and for worse.
The part that's better is the fact that it really is supremely approachable. The part that's worse is the reality that while you might be deluded into believing you've had a special little world generated for you in Golden Krone Hotel (as is one of the principle charms of the genre), the reality is that you are having an experience very much similar to many other players before you, the procedural generation is not quite deep enough for the principle game play experience to truly vary. To me it feels kinda roguelite minus the meta progression somehow, rather than a trad roguelike. If you are looking for a modern roguelike experience with a low barrier to entry, this will scratch the itch, but I don't think it's going to carve out a legendary space in anyone's lifetime gaming history like say the effort of getting into ADOM or ToME.
So it's worth a look for fans of the genre, people interested but having a hard time "getting" it, and for students of game design. Doubtful it will take the place of one of the majors in the play rosters of long-term fans, but I also don't think there's anything wrong with that. Not every experience has to be one for a lifetime, and I think it's just the reality that this is more one of those titles that you play for a while and it's great fun but the inevitable depth trade offs surrounding a low barrier to entry also mean it doesn't quite have the secret sauce for the truly legendary moments that the more brutal and unapproachable titles do (nor, in very much a good way, the same frustrations). Definitely worth the price.

Great traditional roguelike. I only played it for some hours, but I really enjoy it.
Interesting mechanics, easy controls, graphics and sound are great too.
Fight vampires or be a vampire. Probably both. A roguelike in the truest turn-based sense, you ascend the steps of the Golden Krone, encountering various creatures, ne'er-do-wells, and other treasure hunters. Coolest thing about being vampire: lopping up blood pools to heal. Coolest thing about the sun: it casts rays through the stained glass that move as the day progresses, killing vampires dumb enough to be overtaken by it (sometimes that's you). Coolest thing about potions: they're unidentified at first, but you're a dabbling alchemist so you have some idea what a potion COULD do (either heal me or explode, screw it I'm drinking it). Coolest thing about the magic system: Only humans can cast spells, and often you can choose between learning a new spell, improving an existing spell, or just gaining mana. Coolest thing about the map: it's not linear, you can dead end up a tower or find the stairs to the sewer. Underrated gem if you're a roguephile.

GKH is GKHREAT! Traditional roguelikes have a notorious design philosophy of being almost intentionally obtuse and hard to get into. I think the dev here has made a lot of great steps to make a classic genre more accessible and provide an interesting twist on the formula with flip-flopping between human and vampire forms. There's a lot of other great game design ideas in here as well for decision making on what spells to use, guns to have loaded, which branches of the castle to visit, and how much sunlight you want to expose to burn your enemies.
There's a reason why GKH is often listed as a top game for getting people into the grid-based, turn-based traditional roguelike genre. It's probably one of the best gateway games to things like Brogue, Cogmind, or Tales of Maj'eyal!
10/10 would throw myself into the maelstrom again
Golden Krone Hotel is the first pared down traditional roguelike I've really enjoyed. Despite being a bit simple compared to something like DCSS, it's grabbed me just as hard. Lots of smart decisions. I imagine it would be a fantastic introduction to the genre.
Most of these roguelikes don't do enough for me, and Krone Hotel is no exception.
Had much more fun with Dungeons of Dredmore, Tales of Maj'eyal, Castle of the Winds, Dungeonmans, Rogue Fable 3

The good rougelike
For years I've vaguely wanted to get into traditional roguelikes but couldn't find one that was accessible enough to be playable without an unpalatable amount of upfront learning, but still mechanically deep enough to be interesting. Then I found this game, and it hits the sweet spot! Having now won the game a few times on easy, I've switched up to normal, but i'm very grateful for the on-ramp. If you're in a predicament like i was, this is the game for you!

Super charming, streamlined traditional roguelike with a lot of really fun mechanics and a vampire theme great for spooky season. I think this game would be great for roguelite fans who are curious to dip their toes into a more traditional experience, the streamlining makes it way less overwhelming than most well-known roguelikes.
An absolute bargain when it goes on sale, but definitely worth the normal asking price.
Bought this game back in early 2020 but kinda forgot about it, the game's title is a little weird and it doesnt really tell you much about what the game is really about.
Glad I started it, it was fun!
The game in typical roguelike fashion has randomly generated rooms and permadeath but dont worry too much, from start to finish, a run would take you around an hour, 3 hours if you want to explore everything and take your time (game is turned based, nothing happens until you move or act), You can try and speedrun it under 15 minutes, heck, there is an achievement to finish a run in 20m! its doable once you know where to go, what to avoid and what to use.
I like pixel graphics and this game was lovely, sound effects were top notch and the music was very atmospheric and delightfully spooky-fun.
The game's gimmick was very offputting at first, you have certain number of turns as a human until you eventually turn into a vampire and your whole playstyle has to adapt and change! At first I was very frustrated because I didnt know how to turn back but the game is generous about giving you those soul elixir potions that allow you to stay or turn back human, so dont worry too much. Besides, being a vampire is super strong too once you get used to hit and run tactics while licking blood off the floor! haha!
As for achievements, most achievements can be done in easy mode, which is easy but still needs a day or two to master the game's mechanics. Despair mode is really tough though.
Anyway, Golden Krone Hotel might have a weird videogame name but it still very cool turn-based permadeath, coffebreak runs game!

This game rocks and it's a crime it isn't getting more attention! It's a perfectly sized mini roguelike that can be played in an hour or two that's suitably crunchy and tactical without taking tens of hours to learn. Think DoomRL in terms of size and scope.
You are a vampire returning to the hotel owned by Fane, the boss vampire who originally turned your PC into a vampire. There's nine main levels plus multiple side branches — kind of like Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup compressed into a 90 minute experience. You can transform back and forth between vampire and human over the course of the run, and there's a cool "faction" system where humans will mostly leave you alone when you are human, other vamps are friendly when you are in vamp mode.
As a human, there's an upgradable sword and revolver and a magic system with up to four spells available at a time. In vampire mode you lose the finesse to use weapons and cast spells, but you have a powerful natural claw attack, and regenerate health from enemies that bleed. There's also demon blood which gives vampires spell like abilities which cost HP instead of mana.
Art style is fun and atmospheric and awesome chiptune soundtrack. There's a lot I like about this game!

This game rules. As someone who's never played a Roguelike before, I found it initially challenging but playable. Once you understand the enemies, bosses, and game mechanics the "Easy" difficulty becomes Easy. Then "Normal" becomes pretty reasonable, and eventually you're playing "Despair" and dying 100+ times just to get all the achievements. It was the funnest frustration I've had this year.
I have to say, Golden Krone Hotel quickly become my go-to for a coffee-break roguelike. Despite being a 100% traditional roguelike, it manages to stay accessible and enjoyable in short play sessions.
One of the things that really sets this game apart is the variety of classes and strategies available to the player, all of which are further enhanced by the unique mechanic of switching between human and vampire forms when required. I highly recommend Golden Krone Hotel for anyone interested in roguelikes and roguelites. It strikes the perfect balance between accessibility and depth, making it a great choice for both newcomers and veterans of the genre.
Really a great game - very enjoyable. I haven't yet beat it, but am getting the hang of it. I purchased it because I read that it's a good introduction to the world of roguelikes, and this seems to be the case. Highly recommended!

I know traditional roguelikes are kinda niche, but this one looks like a perfect gateway drug. I strongly recommend trying free Hello Rogue on itchio if you're up to discover the roots of the genre or Jupiter Hell if you want 3d roguleike, but if this pixel-art vibe sparks joy in you — just get Golden Krone Hotel, you won't regret. Maybe try easy mode if dying in tutorial seems too brutal to you ) gg
A fun traditional roguelike, with plenty of "disguises" (the classes of this game) for many different starts. The game sees you going through multiple floors to confront the boss vampire at the top of a tower, requiring you to acquire rings from bosses on the side paths to reach the final floor. The layout of maps is randomized, aside of a few special exceptions, along with randomized spell books and potions adding to replayability.
You can play focused on melee or spells, with a gun being a ranged attack limited by bullets to complement either playstyle. The unique mechanic for this game is the character is a vampire, and can only remain human while drinking Soul Elixirs (one of the randomized potions, although a common one). Humans can read books for either stat increases or new spells but need to eat, while vampire form can hit harder and see in the dark, but can't use spells, and slowly loses health, regaining health by drinking blood that drops from your enemies. Human Npcs are friendly with the player in human form, and vamps with a player in vamp form.
Overall, there's some fun balancing with the human and vampire forms, and melee or spells are viable, or even both if you found enough stat books. It's not too hard to become overpowered in the end game, and there is a side area that leads to limitless floors. I would recommend to anyone wanting to try a chill roguelike to either relax to if you are a veteran of the genre, or learn this kind of game if you are a newbie.
Fun little indie traditional roguelike based around a vampire gimmick, only a few hours in but I've got a normal difficulty victory under my belt and I am really enjoying this game! It fills a nice niche as a "coffee break" roguelike with a reasonably short playtime.
A lot of the good roguelikes on steam with QOL features and good UX seem to be huge sandbox roguelikes, so it's nice to see someone spend so much effort on bringing a shorter traditional roguelike to life with a lot of attention to detail on that front.
The Steam Deck interface & experience is excellent right out of the box as well!
Lookin' forward to putting more runs in on this one.

Old school roguelikes are a genre I dabble in, but since buying Golden Krone, it's rendered all its competitors obsolete. Golden Krone solves my biggest complaint of roguelikes in that it usually takes hours to get to any interesting decision making. The risk/reward + resource management gameplay creates a lot of tough choices in the 1-2 hour playtime (for a full run). Tons of classes all play differently, and best of all, the dev keeps updating the game.
It was the best roguelike 2 years ago, and it's even better now.

Simple and often cheap fun with original features that give it depth.
Honestly pretty delightful little rogue-like. The vampire/human transition mechanic is good. Probably the best coffee-break rogue-like of this sort I've played since DoomRL was fresh and new. Easy is actually going to be easy for people that have some experience with similar games. It would be an excellent introduction to the style for people that haven't gotten into this sort of thing yet.
Steam Deck Support is basically perfect, and this is a great style of game for the deck.

Golden Krone Hotel is a wonderful roguelike with great music, depth, lore, mechanics, secrets, and some variety in character build. There arent any deep skill branches or inventory management, as the game automatically equips upgrades and sells off extra equipment. There is a large variety of skills, abilities, and character types though and they are pretty fun and interesting. I keep coming back to this game now and then over the last 7 years (Steam doesnt have my actual play time correct) and I must say the Dev keeps providing awesome content updates, QoL improvements, etc. This game is worth the full retail price, but at $2 during this Winter sale, no-brainer. Underrated gem!

A brilliant game that everyone should play. Deserves a still-higher rating than it's currently sitting at here. It is *not* as easy or simplistic as detractors make it out to be. It's an immersive small roguelike with excellent atmosphere.

Quick to get into, fairly simple to understand even for those new to roguelikes, fun vampire/human-dynamics that you can be very creative and strategic with, hard but like... not too-too hard. A great game! Get it!

このゲームでは時間経過で人間から吸血鬼に、逆に薬を使って人間に戻ったりしながら戦うことになる。
人間の状態だと吸血鬼が敵対し、その逆も同じ。
ラスボスを倒すために、中ボスを倒してリングを集めないといけないのだが、
吸血鬼もしくは人間じゃないと戦えないボスや時間を条件で戦えるボスなど、いろいろバリエーションがあって面白かった。
敵の行動も着ている衣装で予測できたりと細かい配慮ができていてストレスフリーで楽しめた。
Vを押せば敵の情報を見ることができる。(使う魔法や弱点、ヒントなど)
初見の敵はVで調べれば、ある程度理不尽な死を回避できるため、
こまめに調べたほうが吉。
Fun coffee break roguelike. Has enough depth and strategy to be fun and keep me engaged. Has an interesting system of switching between human and vampire forms, with potions and spells adding additional depth.
Good handful of classes that aren't hugely different from one another, but different enough makes doing another run with a new character interesting enough.
I'm still new to roguelikes in general but this seems like a great entry, I enjoyed the time I've played it so far and I can see continuing to try to beat the game with different classes.
Plus you can play the whole game comfortably on a controller! Something I have wished I could do with other roguelikes I have played.

In Golden Krone hotel you play as a vampire. You can change between vampire and human forms using either soul elixirs (vampire->human) or blood (human->vampire). Each form has its advantages and disadvantages - as a human, you can use magical skills and equipment and can regenerate health, but must consume food. As a vampire, you cannot cast spells or use equipment but you have significantly stronger melee skills and can regain health by hitting enemies and drinking their blood.
You must collect rings of power which then unlocks the final boss. The rings of power are guarded by mini-bosses in branches, some of which you can only kill in either vampire or human modes. This creates an interesting challenge and so you have to be conscious of how powerful you are in both forms.
In each run you will get a branch dedicated to the provision of food. I like this as it guarantees that you'll have enough food to complete a run, yet also ensures that you only have access to the food by making progress through the levels.
There's a good variety of spells that you can learn. There's utility spells such as levitation, which allows you to reach potions and equipment otherwise unreachable. There's many damage spells such as firestorm, which does fire damage to all surrounding tiles, a spell which creates water tiles, which you can then turn to ice to do damage, a poison ranged spell and many more. I liked that your character can only have 4 spells and that you are only given a limited selection of spells each time you're offered one, so you need to think about how you want your character build to work given the choices at the time.
There are many potions you can pick up. Some are very powerful like Big Form. Some are positive depending on context e.g. a summon creatures potion is negative, but could be positive if you have the Charm spell or if you are a vampire and need blood. Potions need to be identified via consuming or via an identification scroll (called a 'primer'), but unlike other roguelikes where you must identify everything, all potions are randomly grouped into threes and the game will automatically identify potions that can be deduced from what's left. This reduces the tedium that some people experience with identification systems.
The tile graphics are beautiful and have a pixel retro appeal. The music tracks are well done and fit the vampiric theme. The sound effects are the weakest aspect of the audio visuals but they do the job and do complement the pixel retro graphics. The user interface for the most part is very clean and easy to use. The only slightly awkward part is for viewing enemy abilities and resistances - you need to hit the V key then move a cursor on top of an enemy and then hit enter (update - the developer mentioned that you can just right click - certainly easier!). Other than that, all other actions are easy to perform.
Golden Krone Hotel is a pretty forgiving, fun and perhaps relaxing roguelike to play versus its peers. It certainly does help if you kill vampires via light and flames, but it also doesn't stop you from just stabbing stuff to death with your sword. You can finish a game in one or two hours once you've learnt all that it has to offer. I recommend the game to people who enjoy roguelikes - it's not the most complicated roguelike out there but it has many skills and spells to play around with, the asthetics are very nice, the human->vampire system works well and the game is a lot of fun.
Classic rogue to it's core, Golden Krone Hotel pulls no punches. All you have is your character, your knowledge, and what you find along the way.
Battle or embrace vampirism as you find your way through a towering complex of branching paths filled with various people, monsters, and bosses.
Throughout the game you will find many vampires and humans alike. Communicate with your kind, but you must hunt the other or find yourself hunted.
It's a great game in terms of mechanics, but playthroughs are just a little bit too long. It needs a few more quality of life improvements to reduce micromanagement.
I love stuff with vampires and gothic literature in general, so I decided to give it a try. And yes, you see that right, I played 36 hours. This game is amazing and the fun absolutely never stops. And that last update made me appreciate it even more - the creator constantly adds new stuff, you'll never grow bored. If you are into old-school roguelikes, this game is a treat to have, because it works exactly like them but the learning curve isn't as steep. Not to mention the atmosphere - my gothic loving heart I talked about ealier is so pleased it's not even possible to describe. The soundtrack is otherwordly, the sprites and portraits are simple but effective.
I might be seriously addicted to this game but here goes my honest opinion. Try it.

Nice little roguelike. Focuses on a subset of standard roguelike mechanics - spellcasting, potion identification and ammo management - rather than going for the full package, and then adds one new thing, namely managing your transformations into a vampire and back (plus the associated sunlight mechanic). Runs are short, even a winning one might only take you an hour or so. Even "Easy" mode provides a good challenge as you're learning the game but I'm sure I'll want to switch to Normal soon enough. (I did manage one winning run on Easy within my first couple of days of playing).

It's a fun, simple little roguelike with the whole "vampire" twist done quite well. Switching back and forth, dodging light, going through areas with different creatures hostile... It adds a little bit of extra fun to a solidly-executed game.

GKH is more than just a "coffee break" rogue-like, but it's also something you can mostly understand after a few runs. (But understanding doesn't mean it's easy.)
And there is a lot going on... especially the fact that you slowly transform from human into vampire, and when that happens, half the stuff in the world gets flipped on its head (you want to avoid the light, other humans become your enemies, can't use your gun or spells). I also like how there are a lot of branches, and you have to do some, but you also have some choice about which ones. Very friendly interface for a "true" roguelike. Recommended!
Hmmm, it's not a bad game, but it is a really *short* one. I beat it for the first time in about an hour total.
