通关了一次来留评论。地图走位这个系统有点半吊子了，并没有那么多策略空间（开图和移动还消耗资源，花钱买移动机会真能赚回来吗？才赚多少？）。战斗部分，随机性有些强又或者我有点菜，需要一个比较好的技能组合和装备配置才够强度，而且没有那种一旦成型就碾压的感觉，还是需要各种保血量，考虑到地图有陷阱和弹幕乱飞的同时人物移动性能不灵敏，地面有障碍，画面边缘还有遮挡，实在是爽不起来。

Didn't play a ton of this past finishing a run but I thought it was pretty fun with some unique build mechanics.
It's bad.
Extremely clunky characters, enemies, movements. This is like a flash game actually.
I thought after 50 hours I had played this game more than enough, that I had clearly overplayed it to the point of sillyness, and then yet for some reason I still went ahead and played it for like another 50 hours after that and now even beyond that I've still kept going and probably won't stop at this point.
So I guess Flamebreak one of those highly honoured games in my roster now, one where I don't really have anything more to learn or discover, but I still just boot it up anyway: like any old classic, knocking out a few hours for a bit of relaxation every so often is great, even if I never play it for many hours on end like I did when I first bought it. As with any game that has managed to make its way into my long-term roster in life of things I just periodically pick up fro a bit of fun, this game comes highly recommended from me.
It's a room-style rinse and repeat roguelite in the spirit of Gungeon or Isaac, with a StS style overworld exploration between the encounters + creeping shadow that strictly limits time. It's a very tight experience: all game play, no faff, and no confusion about where to go or what to do next. It's very stripped down but in a good way actually. There are some lore tidbits to enjoy if you like but they're skippable and I wasn't interested. The game play stands on its own just fine so the fact I never really had any interest in the lore was not a problem for me.

Flamebreak is a simple but well done game with a good challenge ahead and an achievements list 99% made to challenge you more than to assess your progress. It is not a rogue like though your death has zero effect on your character other than having to restart from zero. It is not an easy game but not too hard either. I play this only a few minutes here and there though, I'd be really surprised if I end up having clocked a hundred hours on this but it can go that far.
On discount nowadays you can get it under 3 euros so yea it is an easy recommendation if you like small but well done and challenging game. If feels like a flash or phone game though.
I bought this for 2$ CAD and that's what it's worth.
Incredibly repetitive and the items you buy don't really add anything to the play style.

One of my favorite games of all time, and for sure my favorite rogue-lite game
Combines classic RPG elements (making your stats like Attack damage, attack speed, skill power as high as possible) with consistently smooth rogue-lite gameplay.
So many combinations of different builds you can try out and pretty much anything works if you are good enough to play it. Getting those crazy builds where you have an insane amount of one stat isn't common enough to feel unrewarding, but attainable enough to make every run have the chance to get there.
Also, I was having issues launching the game for a while, and having tried everything I reached out to the support team at Nimbly games, and within the same day they put out a fix for me, super appreciated!

It got recommended to me via steam suggestions and I thought: "Well why not? Looks like fun"
Dumped 16 hours straight into the game the same day and 16 hours again on the next...
I blocked it afterwards, that ♥♥♥♥ is too damn addictive for me :D

So, although this is an old game and nobody will probably read this review, it's new to me and it is awesome.
I bought it after searching about for an ability based top down roguelite. There were bunches of recommendations around the interwebs, so I decided to pick it up.
It took some runs, some really close to popping off, before I finally won my first (right before writing this review). I was wickedly powerful, and it felt amazing. Since it was my first time facing the boss, I took quite a bit of damage, it was close. But, I managed to win out, and I let out a roar of triumph once I did. It was exhilarating.
TLDR: This is a great game with a wealth of impactful decisions to make and snappy ability infused combat. If any of that sounds remotely interesting, take it for a spin.
Each run goes across a sequence of maps. There are a bunch of different "tiles" you can visit from shops to minibosses, and also a few items that allow you to do special stuff on the overworld map, like teleport around or unveil secrets. The tactical nature of making your way across each map to the boss is pretty engaging, and it adds quite a bit to the experience.
The meat of the game is the combat. It can feel a bit slow at first, but once you get the hang of it, it feels great. Each run you get a race that provides your base stats and a skill, a basic weapon (melee and ranged), and two additional skills. The skills aren't just different colored fireballs either. There is a skill that lets your basic attacks build poison, and then you can proc it for big damage. Another stuns enemies, but also erases projectiles. You've got various teleports and movement skills, and I am slowly unlocking more. It gives a lot of variety, and it provides the moba-ish feeling I was looking for.
One of the most fun parts is powering up. You can upgrade skills, and then there are items. Basic items give a nice boost, but there are also sets that give even greater power. You have to collect three pieces between the Jeweler & Blacksmith, so you need to make smart choices in the overworld. Of course, there is also the bazaar, which can appear on the edge of the map, which will guarantee a set item (and also contains some extremely powerful items). There are also gods that you can curry favor with through items or Temples that appear on the map. These are also really powerful, but the temple levels can be tough because the temple itself effects the battle (until you kill it!).
There is just lots of depth here, and I think more roguelite type games should do the overworld like this. It's so much more engaging than the standard slay the spire style.

Instantly love it - my new favourite game
A charming rogue-like that never lets you down. The skill system is amazing, so many skills and so much variety. Back-stabbing dwarven rogue, mad attack cow, meteor hurling faerie, this game has it all. Items are not a hassle but fun to collect and clever planning pays off. Some of the graphics might give the wrong impression of a cheap mobile game at first glance. But after a while I have grown to like them a lot and the folk music adds to the atmosphere.

I just realised I mentioned Flamebreak in two reviews for other games, but I never wrote one for it while I have 90 hours of gaming time on it over several years. Shameful.
For me, this game is incredibly good and satisfying, but also very hard, and it's roguelike, not roguelite. The unlocks that you get between runs don't really make your gaming experience easier, just more interesting as there are new possibilities of gameplay : new classes, new skills, new items, etc.
So if you're not afraid of difficulty, give Flamebreak a try, it's amazingly good, one of the best roguelikes around, in my honest opinion.

I had a great time playing this. Very nice indie game.
If you like games where learning enemy attack patterns is a key part of progression, you'll probably like this game. Flamebreak does a good job of giving you visual cues as to what is coming your way once you've played it enough. Part of the fun is unlocking new characters, abilities, items and discovering the OP synergies between them.
Some of the downsides of the game are its dated presentation and RNG. The graphics don't look crisp on modern 4K displays, but it doesn't look to bad in windowed mode. The RNG is my only real frustration in the game because sometimes you will get difficult terrain with no room to move on boss fights that require you to move a lot. There is an amazing item that lets you warp anywhere, but you need RNG to get that too.
Overall, this game seems well worth the money if you like this kind of genre. It's not the best one of these ever made, but for the price, it's many hours of fun.
boring enemy types, enemy scaling makes it feel like you never get more damage and it uses that horrible traversal system with "something" chasing you as you progress so you can never take your time. People compare this to isaac and I want whatever they're smoking

One of the best roguelites no one ever heard of. Tons of content with lots of fun challenges & unlocks to complete yourself, and no real sense of grind. Art and animation is a bit lacking for 2016 but the gameplay is up there with the best of em.

It's been 7 years and I still come back to this game regularly.
It might not be the prettiest game out there but the gameplay is really fun and varied.
You often get completely different builds and outcomes, but it gets extremely tough later on, even more so when trying to get all the achievements.
It has the most interesting polytheistic system for gods and shrines I've ever seen in a game, letting you fight the god who you have the least amount of favor with, while being blessed by the god you protected the most shrines.
We need Chinese!!!

Fun cheap roguelite that I like though there are many other great options in this genre, I can't fault this game for not being able to serve the same feel. Even if I don't see myself putting hundreds of hours in this game, I still respect what this game tries to achieve and is able to offer. I treat it the same way I do Downwell, I like the game, bought it, and never thought of it as a regretful purchase.

This game does an excellent job of distilling the best parts of the Rogue...like? Lite? Ish? genre down to a simple but fun experience. If you think Binding of Isaac has too many cutscenes, or that Rogue Legacy has too many menus, then you won't have that problem here.
Both the overworld decisions, and the battlemap gameplay are very good. The game also makes it easy to jump into and out of a run, and the mechanics are deeper than they appear. It's possible to get very good at Flamebreak if you put some time into it, and that experience is very rewarding. The game is not a MOBA, but it borrows the best parts of MOBA build-making and integrates them in a very satisfying way.

Great rogue-lite with plenty of replayability through various combinations of starting build and item sets available.
Learning how to fight different enemies is key, like many other games. However, learning how to navigate the overworld and put together a build that functions well, especially in Nightmare (essentially an optional NG+ for a run), can take a bit of learning.
The developer made some YouTube videos that really help learn some strategy. Daily Missions allow everyone to compete with the same seed, and allowing people to push beyond "win a run" to "win a run quickly"

The constant change of heroes, and the long list of different weapons and skills keeps this games replayability very high.
Later in the game you really have to stay on your toes. I'm usually able to stay very calm but this game actually raised my heart rate in the more challenging levels. I'm impressed. Worth every penny. 10/10

This is a pretty decent action rogue-like. It has a good amount of content and the builds you can work towards are diverse. I like this kind of top-down gameplay where you have to dodge shots and position yourself so you don't get cornered.

A neat little rogue-like
Fun little game :) definitely not as hard or balanced as Isaac, Hades, Dead Cells and other similar games of the genre but it works as a change of pace. I also enjoy the little Warcraft 3 custom maps and Dota references.
Definitely worth the sale price.

I'm surprised to see so many really positive reviews about this game and so few negative ones. It's not a good sign when you don't even like the opening cutscene. But, I thought, maybe the gameplay is still good. That's when I found that controller support was completely broken. It seemed like the two sticks were swapped, and in addition to that, they were reversed so that up/down was right/left and vice versa. I did a little googling and it seems like people have been having this issue since 2015 -- another bad sign. The game itself is playable with kbm, but I didn't find it very engaging. I felt like combat should have been faster paced, and more varied.

Having fun so far. Early thoughts below.
Best things:
A good combo of moves feels really powerful, you can chain together attacks.
It's quick to play but also deep enough that I can stick with it for a few deaths.
The story interludes (poems and art) are well done and enjoyable.
Downsides:
Scenery on the edge of the map is sometimes in the foreground and can hide your character or foes.
The classes don't seem to make too much difference aside from visuals and a special move.
Personal note:
I love the art in the little cutscenes and feel very blah about the actual game art, Man oh man would I love it if the game art looked more like the cutscene art. The smooth and colorful mobile style art just doesnt feel anywhere near as cool.

If you have more than one screen setup i don´t recommend this game.
You will constantly fight the mouse pointer from not going over to your other screen.
I cant understand why devs dont think that people in this day of age has more than one screen connected to their computer. Its too bad because game is fun.
But im not going to disconnect all my other screens just to play this.
If there will be a patch addressing this then i will change my opinion.
(I have tried windowed mode fullscreen and fullscreen windowed )

This game is incredible.
This game was a nice surprise. It is easier than most roguelikes I tried, but there is enough variety of skills and items, and the game mechanics have enough depth so that I'm constantly learning and finding the runs interesting.
One thing about this game, is that most item sets are actually good and have interesting effects. And even if you have a run where they don't fit your character, you'll probably be able to adapt and spend the resources in other ways.
My biggest complains are that after good first impressions and until you get a little better and unlock things it gets a bit repetitive, and that the collision with obstacles feels kind of unreliable.
Very addictive roguelike...not super customizable, but a lot of play styles possible. Not really a game I can compare it with. Worth trying when on sale.

Had to come back to edit this review.
I initially became a little bored at about the 5 hour point, but something called me back to play a little more. Now I'm up to 30+ hours. I have become quite charmed with this game.
I didn't quite grasp that this game was not meant to be "beaten" but instead you're meant to play it over and again and be willing to use all the various classes and skills that get randomly offered to you. I initially hated the fact that I couldn't make my own starting character and had to choose from the 3 the game randomly produced - but I've come to appreciate that aspect because it forces me to discover the different mechanics, builds and skills.
This is a very well-made game. I guess my only real complaint is the graphics. I don't know why but I just don't like the style. But now that I've played the game and achieved various wins and Achievements I've come to tolerate them, and I would say that you should not judge the game based on the corny graphics - mechanically the game is rich and pleasurable to play and discover, and it is those aspects that are vastly more important than a stylistic preference.

One of the best games on steam!
I was looking for a Rogue like game like this for months and finally i found it.
It is a great yet challennging game with 4 fun abilities which you can either get premade or select yourself in custom mode.
it's a great game to hop into for a while and clap some ass.
Not bad?
But like. Don't expect it to be the next bindings of isaac.
I dunno how many hours I got into it.
But expect to at least get that many hours of enjoyment out of it.
So if you can grab it in sale and want to burn that amount of hours, I recommend it.

If you like Hack n' Slashs but don't like grinding for hours on end to develop your build fully, then this game is perfect for you. A full run is an hour run at most and you get to experience all the joy of having a build click, if you make the appropriate choices. The game play is very much a blend of light bullet-hell and Hack n' Slash, with some strategic overworld navigation thrown in. I play on ubuntu with a gamepad, and I must say the game is extremely well optimized and is simply a joy to play.
This game is very solid gameplay-wise, there are a ton of different possible combinations between races, weapons, skills and items that makes for an almost unlimited replayability value.
Boss encounters are interesting and the fog mechanic makes sure you don't waste time between levels.
It has an easier start compared to other more brutal roguelites, but ramps up in difficulty pretty well.
The story is told through beautiful and well narrated poems.
Excellent roguelite, a must-have for fans of the genre.
A great game for a couple dozen hours of fun. The arsenal of weapons and abilities results in vastly different playstyles, although the limited pool of enemies, and the very limited amount of differences between each zone are unfortunate.
