I really enjoyed the game and got most endings with a few friends I streamed for. It was really fun to experience the beautiful scenery with the perfect soundtrack. It made me feel things and think about stuff, the vibes were great, I liked it. I didn't like the RNG ending with the moon tho, but that's fine.
But thumbs down nonetheless, pls fix this and comment if u want, I will change this review instantly.

Such a dreamy experience that tackles many themes to great effect. All of the ending cutscenes were beautiful, and I was a big fan of the writing and the secrets to be found.

Might be (probably is) my favourite game of all time. The story is incredible, the graphics feel nostalgic, and the music is stunning. If you haven't played this game then you truly are missing out. It's so relaxing and fascinating. I do wish the devs made another game styled like this one.

J’apprécie énormément les immersives sims ou les puzzle games qui laissent au joueur une vraie liberté de réflexion et d’action. Cependant, Fatum Betula appartient clairement à une catégorie plus radicale. Sans guide, j’aurais sans doute abandonné après quelques heures, en passant à côté de la moitié du contenu tant tout est dissimulé de manière vicieuse.
La majorité des lieux, des interactions et des fins alternatives sont cachés derrière des textures trompeuses ou des enchaînements d’actions si improbables qu’ils évoquent une combinaison gagnante du loto. C’est regrettable, car intrinsèquement, Fatum Betula est une œuvre étrange et singulière. Son esthétique volontairement brute et son atmosphère dérangeante suffisent à intriguer et à maintenir l’attention. Il s’en dégage une sensation d’inconnu permanent, un malaise qui donne envie d’en percer les mystères.
C’est en cela qu’il est difficile d’en donner un avis tranché, sans aide extérieure, je serais probablement passé à côté d’une grande partie de l’expérience. Le jeu récompense une curiosité spéciale, mais au risque de décourager ceux qui n’acceptent pas de tâtonner longuement.
Néanmoins, si comme moi vous aimez sortir des sentiers battus et vivre des expériences courtes, atypiques et profondément singulières, laissez-vous tenter. Fatum Betula n’est pas un jeu confortable, c’est une curiosité spéciale qui mérite un peu d’être explorée.

El juego es extremadamente extraño pero a su vez es genuinamente interesante y contiene lo que yo interpreto es una escritura muy densa y simbolica con un monton de mensajes sociales y filosoficos. Si le tengo que sacar algo malo es que el personaje camina muy lento (se puede sprintar pero aun asi) y repetir la partida para sacar otro final o hacer cosas como tener que editar a partida par conseguir algun lo gro o final es un poco coñazo pero por lo demas esta bastante bien.

Very short game, about two hours of content give or take, but it is priced accordingly and has some very cool ideas, the whole idea of getting liquids via adventure puzzles and secrets to get endings is interesting and I feel a little underdeveloped, some sections and endings are quite trippy too, and the final "secret" ending is... well it´s quite something all right. I enjoyed the ps1 trippy graphics and discovering hidden secrets and ways to get different endings, I also like the save system that "forces" you to rely only on 4 save slots to try different combinations and puzzle solutions, overall a very nice enjoyable game.

Where it's weird, I've seen weirder, and the overall... narrative, doesn't ever really deliver on the promise of quality you get from the atmosphere created by an initial blind playthrough. And that atmosphere is eventually undermined by that narrative being underserved, but the game is short and quirky enough to be worth a purchase during a sale.

Questo gioco è semplicemente fantastico e oltre al fatto della grafica stile anni 90' e anche le atmosfere che funzionano alla perfezione (e adoro tutto ciò, addirittura da darmi un senso di nostalgia verso qualcosa che non so), Fatum Betula mi ha fatto riflettere sulla vita e sulla finzione, sul futuro e sulla morte... Sembra una cosa stupida ma questo gioco ha davvero un sacco di potenziale e di significato, meriterebbe molto più successo, o forse va bene così, magari non tutti ne hanno bisogno, ma io ne ho avuto.

Lethe shouldn't have an echo, that's the whole point of forgetting. The river is endless but we are not. What if this wasn't the case though? What if your existence could become impossible? Would you then push the envelope off the fringes of the sweet hereafter or would you poison the future when boredom starts to sting a little too much? Atlas was forced to carry the sky for eternity. Just imagine how bored he is right now. He wasn't given a choice though.

You start the game with a system in balance desperate to be thrown off balance. How will you do it? And why?
I noticed that Fatum Betula is tagged as horror but that is not true, except if the definition of horror is stretched so thin to encompass eeriness, an uneasy feeling or existential dread. Personally, I would describe Fatum Betula as an exploration game, relying heavily on its atmosphere and dream-like quality to narrate a story which is simultaneously simple and convoluted. This last part is perhaps the most brilliant thing that Fatum Betula has to offer, mostly because of its thematology. Of course, the PSX era aesthetics and an amazing soundtrack both allow the story to take root and give form to its fleshy bark and low-polygon, bony branches. The typical 3D pixelated look of similar indie games is employed by Fatum Betula as well, and it made me appreciate once again the term [i]low-poly art[/i]. Bryce Bucher, the game's creator, brought the game to life by depicting incandescently its small world and the characters that it consists. Ok, a certain cat-looking raccoon is a peculiar inclusion but jokes aside, I found that everything was designed with a befitting sense for the scope of Fatum Betula's story.
The music serves an amazing role into bringing this dream-like atmosphere to life. Like a mantle that rests upon the shoulders in perfect symmetry, it envelops Fatum Betula's story. A fitting soundtrack for the game's world: even when it appears to be soothing, it remains suspenseful and at times it turns sinisterly disturbing, mirroring the ambiguity of a dream and the dissonance of the nightmare.

A game that is eerie in its comfort. I went into this game expecting jumpscares and terrifying ambience, but got very little of that. No jumpscares, no real terrifying ambience; instead, I got a world that just felt off at all times. For example, [spoiler]a church that houses a powerful birch tree and an unsettling guardian, a riverbank that marks the final resting place of a lone fisherman, turning into a nightmare realm when you sleep in his former bed. A perpetually dark hub world that a "beast" lives in. It's unsettling, but not scary. In fact, the only place that I felt scared in, as a tiny little easily-scared pissbaby, was the Suburbia map. A seemingly never-ending street that copies its lone house, whose only inhabitant is a mother and their son, mutually exclusive to be together, both listening to the same uncomfortable TV programme. A lab in the middle of the road whose occupant dies as soon as you try to enter his area, leaving his diary logs to watch his descent.[/spoiler]
And yet, despite this eerie atmosphere that I decided to brave in the dark, home alone, I felt a slight sense of comfort in it. It wasn't scary, nor was it cosy; just comfortable. The type of feeling you get on your last day of school when the setting sunlight hits the windows, and you realise that you're going to miss this when it ends. But it has to, and you'll have to move on, but that doesn't mean you can't take those memories with you, because they'll forever be a part of you. Even if one day, you forget the names and faces, if I forget it's "Fatum Betula" and not "Fatum Bela", I'll always know I once had this. I hope one day I can come back to this with a fresh mind and experience this comfort again.

Impecable PSX era vibe, the athmosphere is nailed perfectly, absolutely recommended if you love retro games.
Don't expect any complex story tho, there is no main story and the messages on the "serious" endings are quite simple, blunt and lack subtletly, but the low poly autumn forest is beautiful so who cares.

Every now and again I randomly think about this game and how special it is, over a year after I finished it. Also I constantly refer to quotes and screenshots from this masterpiece, from endings to random NPC one-liners. Just a beautiful experience all around - from visuals and atmosphere to writing and story, it just stayed with me like few games do.

The 'story' is pretty boring stuff but I like the visual presentations and that kept me intrigued enough to finish all endings (using a guide of course). The best part of this game was the secret ending.

Game is beyond beautiful and retains an atmosphere that kept me hooked for the remainder of my attempt to fully complete the game. Beyond the lovely art style, I always love these cryptic and surreal messages given throughout the game, they're less about the actual game and more about personal interpretation.
Despite that though, the whole game wraps up nicely in such a weird way, there wasn't a real satisfactory ending, the experience simply just stopped. Loved my time on the game, I can see myself go backing for the environment and the ethereal soundtrack the game offers,

This game has many lovely things going for it, I highly recommend you play it or gift it to a friend who'd appreciate it.
Beautiful and at times ominous environments, interesting NPCs, trance-like music, and it is very much worth exploring all eleven endings and possible achievements. The game will make you smile, scratch your head, raise your brows, and sit in silence with thoughts, or at least in my experience!
This game is for creative minds, psychological horror/PSX fans, philosophy enjoyers, and those who seek out indie gems.

oh!, this game is so great, now i wish for a Fatum Betula 2, that were a sanbox. Naturally this game reminded me some old games, but particularly one called Tenchu 2, because i played that a lot, and for the atmosphere, not on the action part dought. But in that game you could create your own maps... so i just imagine that Fatum Betula could be made like a sandbox, with those lovely diagonal sprites.

Recuerdo haber probado este juego en una coleccion de haunted demodisc y fue uno de los juegos que mas llamaron mi atención, sabe aprovechar muy bien ese arte tipo ps1, sus entornos oníricos a veces son tétricos, melancólicos, simplemente extraños, acompañado con su sountrack ambiental es un mar de emociones la primera vez que exploras el entorno, el juego te incentiva a observar y moverte por su mundo por la propia curiosidad que genera saber que puedes encontrar mas allá de la oscuridad y la niebla del mapa.
Ahora un poco mas sobre el gameplay el juego es sencillo solo caminas en su mundo en busca de sustancias que después vas a tener que usar en el rio del árbol del inicio para conseguir los finales, el como conseguir las sustancias es lo que le da un factor puzzle donde además hay que tomar muy en cuenta el sistema de guardado, la mayor parte de los finales se puede conseguir por tu cuenta mientras caigas dentro de la curiosidad de su mundo y es lo que recomiendo, pero llega un punto donde vas a terminar usando una guia debido a la existencia de eventos aletorios o situaciones absurdas y poco intuitivas, aunque tomando en cuenta todo lo abstracto que es el juego no se que tanto caiga como un defecto y parte de los finales no me parecen la gran cosa luego si se pasan de pretenciosos los hijos de la vrga, pero en su conjunto es una experiencia muy grata si eres fan de los juegos "raros"

Нам дали побродить по сну с температурой 40, и всем это понравилось. Ретро-стилистика, классный саундтрек и тарантиновские диалоги создают очень цепляющую атмосферу.
Это тот случай, когда хочется сунуть нос в каждый пиксель, собрать все концовки, поговорить со всеми нпс, а потом заставить играть друга, чтобы он тоже мог убить енотокота семь раз подряд и услышать, что попадёт в ад.
Вот что получается, когда разработчики вспоминают, что у них есть свобода воли, и понимают фразу "угадай, что выкину" с максимальной серьезностью. Мое уважение.
