Story mode isn't so bad on the easiest difficulty, thanks to free keys that keep the run alive (waiting a minute for each one sucks, though). Every zone has some mechanic to it that keeps the experience interesting - beating the zones are the few highlight moments you get here. Once you beat the game, it's also possible to grind the final boss for a decent amount of soul stones, which help a ton with any future runs.
Everything else, however, feels very rough around the edges - the story is bland, the sound and music volumes are way too loud and it's very easy to glitch out the game. The mouse inputs don't work most of the time, small mistakes can quickly ruin your progress and grinding soul stones is very boring.
Maze mode is RNG hell; find sword, shield, upgrades, a key and kill a boss. However, sometimes there's no sword, sometimes there's no key and in the final zone, the boss has a 50% chance of being literally unkillable. You can be 10 minutes into a run before realizing that the run was un-winnable from the start, which feels very stupid.
If you're a completionist, you'll need to do some grinding here (a couple story mode runs, some speedrun attempts and 50 maze mode clears), which imo is ok for a bit, but frustrating once the novelty wears off.

I wasn't expecting much but I'm actually enjoying it. What seems like simple gameplay on the surface gives you lots of options to play with. Which doors to unlock, which monsters to battle, risk vs reward. Great strategy-lite rougelike-lite. (I hate labels and categorization)

It took me a little while to "get it" but it's more fun than you might expect. It's a sort of rogue-lite puzzle game in a sense. Sometimes it's a little unfair with the randomness, hence the rogue-lite aspect, but that's part of the fun.

首先故事模式不该用ROUG模式而是固定地图，运气差了剑盾前面一堆怪，运气好开个门直接就是剑盾变成运气游戏了不是魔塔。
其次复活石莫名其妙，初见杀BOSS然后复活石直接在上一个BOSS处复活，十层直接白打，而且不知道有BUG还是什么原因，复活石复活后武器直接出BUG这个地图的剑盾会变成上一个地图的剑盾，直接低几十点属性。还有一个BUG，用飞行魔杖的时候总是层数抽搐。
原版魔塔很多东西是能在前面遇到情报的，这个魔塔很多初见杀，初见杀完了后面给你个情报说怎么解。而且原版魔塔打不过就只会走不动而不是上去死了，然后复活，很容易误操作。撤回系统也是约等于无，没有战斗加速的设置，每打一个得手动点加速，音量没法调只能开或者关，总而言之，是一个不够现代化，勉强及格的魔塔作品。

Gameplay: 6/10
A solid implementation of TotS' gameplay, the movement is fluid and responsive, sometimes to its disadvantage as you can accidentally walk into a door and use up a key. The game is procedurally generated, in theory providing infinite replayability, but in practice the random nature of the game works at odds with the puzzle-based nature of managing your health. Moreover, the boss battles in the game are ripped wholesale from the original, with the occasional difference. This does result in an instance where one boss is far more difficult due to the mage replacement moves out of position such that you cannot kill the boss. In addition, the game has a very basic settings menu that does not allow changing the volume of the very loud music and sound effects.
Sound Design: 5/10
As mentioned before, there's not much way to alter the volume inside of the game, I had to manually adjust it outside of the game to compensate. The sound effects aren't much to write home about.
Level Design: 0/10
This is where the game suffers the most. It's randomized, that means you could get unlucky and effectively get softlocked because you didn't figure out the most optimal path through an area. Worse, dying results you either restarting, or respawning at the previously defeated boss with the rooms regenerated. TotS had static levels with carefully curated encounters, where trial and error could allow a player to make progress even if they restart from scratch.

What story there is consists of an excuse plot, much like the original. There's not much here to keep you engaged.
Overall: 4/10
Even discounted, it's not a game I particularly care about. It feels like bad attempt at turning a puzzle game into a roguelike without understanding how the original works.

Way too many bugs! The game has a system to buy items using souls you get from defeating previous bosses yet you will encounter gamebreaking bugs for creative uses.
If you attempt to bypass the red door on 10th floor using any wall-destroying or teleport item it will get stuck there and you won't be to fight the skeleton king or able to progress to the next floor!

DungeonUp is a free to play Adobe Flash/AIR browser game that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a fully fledged PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy web developers, because they want your money for a free browser game. Charging money for something that's free? Yes, this is a scam.
And a bad one. It's a lazy 2D retro pixel trashware "dungeon crawler" themed game, like a really dumbed down version of Rogue/Hack, but with worse graphics somehow (I'd rather be looking at ASCII instead of yet more pixelcrap). But what should we expect from a free browser game? Not a price tag, that's for sure.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts.
Comically, the game was written in Adobe Flash/AIR (I'm not making this up). Talk about not using the right tools for the job. Might as well try to bake a cake with a screwdriver. The extremely poor choice of game engine here is a major contributing factor to the defects with the game.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?
Once more we see greedy devs trying to scam PC gamers. On Steam, this is $5 USD, but it's free to play on the web.
For comparison, the $5 asking price for this game could get you games like "Metro 2033", "Sleeping Dogs" or "The Witcher 2". So buy any of those on sale, and if you still want to play this, you can play it for free in your web browser.
Web developers must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay a premium for a free browser game just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers. Because this can be played free elsewhere, and because of the other defects, it's impossible to recommend.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

Fun for an hour. Eventually 100% tedious and a pain in the ass.
What really convinced me this game is a waste of time: there's a boss who is literally impossible unless you get lucky enough for a hint guy to spawn (he doesn't always spawn). He gives a very specific set of instructions which are the only way to kill the boss. Without prior knowledge or the hint guy, this is impossible. So then you die, lose a revive currency (extremely important), and have to redo an hour of the game. Or the entire game if you're out of gems. This boss is a total failure of a mechanic when the hint guy isn't even always findable.
I was looking past typos, terrible story, tedious backtracking, being screwed out of currency because I spent it all on an item that was on the next floor, and more... but the above was the kicker. Up to that point, the game was extremely okay. Okay enough to feel worth a few hours, but not afterwards.
I almost recommend trying due to the extremely low price, but the above is such a yikes I quit completely on the spot.

The fact that being defeated in boss level sends you back to last spawn point is fairly dumb (specifically the puzzle at level 15). Re-grinding 1-2 hours of progress does not provide much more new experiences, if any

A simple and addictive rouguelike RPG. Unfortunately, it doesn't have much depth and you'll probably be able to finish it in several hours. Most notable feature - it doesn't require a graphics card, so you can play it when your RTX 4090 burns out :)

This game is a light RPG, puzzle, and adventure mix. Your stats are basic—money, health, attack, and defense—and there are magic items to collect. The puzzle aspect mainly revolves around strategic key usage (unless you’re on easy mode), and the adventure element lets you talk to NPCs who give clues about upcoming challenges.
However, missing a clue about a boss cost me over an hour of progress, which was frustrating. The medium difficulty is challenging enough to be motivating, but after the setback, I wasn’t eager to replay it all, even though the levels regenerate. There’s also a maze mode where you have limited resources and limited visibility of the level, adding to the difficulty.
I’d recommend this game for its concept and fun mechanics. If you don’t make the same mistake I did (engaging a boss without proper knowledge), it’s a solid experience. Considering its price, I can’t thumbs down it. Recommended!
Was ist DungeonUp? Ein Rogue-like RPG welches sehr viel wert auf Taktik und Planung legt, denn hier kommt es nicht darauf an wie gut Ihr in dem Spiel seid sondern welche Gegner Ihr wann besiegt oder wann Ihr einen Heiltrank holt bzw. eine Waffe verstärkt. Dieses andere Gameplay was man vielleicht mit einer Mischung aus Taktikshooter und Autokartenspiel (da Ihr meist Werte vergleicht) beschreiben kann ist etwas frisches neues im Einheitbrei der Rogue-likes und RPGs. Auch zu erwähnen wäre da noch die Schwierigkeit da es selbst auf dem leichtesten Schwierigkeitsgrad oft sehr knifflig ist und Ihr nicht wie in anderen Spielen einfach durch jedes Level laufen könnnt. Vielleicht sollte noch erwähnt werden das Ihr euch wie in einem Strategiespiel jeweils in Vierecken bewegt aber nicht nur eine bestimmte Anzahl an Schritten gehen dürft, die Gegner bewegen sich ausser in Bosskämpfen bzw. wenn Ihr bestimmte Gegner angreift nicht in andere Richtungen. Zum Ende bleibt zu sagen das DungeonUp ein Strategie Rougue-like RPG ist welcher jeder mal ausprobiert haben sollte das es wirklich ein gelungener Mix dieser Genres ist, Daumen hoch.

Fans of puzzle games like Adventures of Lolo will likely enjoy this game. The developer throws around Rogue-like a lot in describing it, but it has much more in common with single room puzzle games like Chips Challenge or Lolo than anything in that genre. There's secret blocks and some randomly generated elements to keep the game fresh in case you ever decide to pick it up a second time.
Very fun so far and pretty cheap!

I did not think there would be anything to this game, but I found myself playing it much longer than I thought. The play is simple, but you can't go throwing open every door. You need to do a bit of planning.

It's cute and a great concept, but you get soft-locked if you enter the boss room and can't beat them. Finding this out after four hours... not great.
