Cursed to Golf looks great and plays fine, but it's just not fun.

The art direction is well done. It follows a cutesy approach with detailed and polished designs and animations. Menus and UI are all coherent but feel like they are missing a touch here and there. Some interactions with level elements are not as obvious or explained as they should be. Character design also looks really good.

Gameplay is subpar, I guess. I can't quite put my finger on what makes the game so unfun, but the main core of the gameplay, the golfing part with 3 different clubs to choose from and the power and spin mechanics, feels OK. The levels felt too cramped, with way too many things to interact with. The Ace Cards, which are powers that can be played at the start of any shot and have their own unique role, felt like an afterthought. They are impactful and important to the gameplay, but I did not enjoy their management and most appliances. There are also pins, which are active modifiers with little impact that should be more explored.

Tutorials drag on for way too long, and you can't escape them. You are forced to complete them before progressing. One of the main mechanics, spinning, is also only introduced after your first loss for some reason. The camera is bad but workable. Controls also felt off at certain times.

I don't know if I was expecting too much from a golf roguelike that looked this great, but I could not muster the will to play more than a couple of runs.

It's a good game that suffers from a bunch of problems. I beat the game in about four hours, then went back and beat it two more times to get all the achievements. I can confidently say that the game is fun but suffers from being either too hard and punishing due to poorly communicated mechanics or stupidly easy once you get the hang of it.

The tutorial is quite long and filled with fluff that isn't necessary at the start as most people are interested in getting straight into the golf gameplay. And once you're finally done and can actually play the game, the moment you inevitably lose, you are forced back into another tutorial to explain yet another mechanic instead of just doing it from the get-go.

And for all of this explaining, they skip over the most important mechanic, that being the Pins, which are the most overpowered thing in the game, enabling you to traverse most of the terrain and at times skip over half of the level. Most of the pins at the start are mediocre, but the shop eventually begins selling the Turn On Pins, which are basically the same as the Ace Cards but with infinite uses. It's such a game changer, yet the game doesn't bother explaining it at all. Once I understood it, I managed to go through the entire game, beating all the bosses in a single run. My tip would be to go through the first few holes, using your cards as you see fit and saving up money; whenever you could go to the shop, do so and immediately look for Turn On Pins, rerolling if there aren't any. The best ones are the ones that let you control your ball, like the U-turn, and those that let you skip over terrain, like the Drill Ball. And herein lies the problem: the turn-on pins are so strong, yet they are unexplained to the player, making the later levels seem impossible.

And this leads me to another problem: like all roguelites, RNG plays a factor into your runs; in this case, what pins the shop happens to have in stock, so if you happen to somehow manage to reach world three without a pin that grants mobility, you might as well restart the run. It's unlikely, with how many shops you run into, but the possibility is still there.

And finally, the biggest problem with the game is that it's very unbalanced; without the pins, the levels are borderline impossible without you expending all your ace cards just to get through one level, and with the pins, they become so easy it's boring.

Some more issues I have with the game:

-The final level has a bunch of cutscenes that constantly interrupt your flow, and on repeat playthroughs, you are made to watch the same cutscenes again, and only some of them are skippable while others you can only fast forward through.

-The unskippable final set piece before the end result screen

-Some bugs here and there, the worst one being a bug that caused the ball to not melt in lava, forcing me to hit it out, only for the lava to drag the ball down again, soft-locking me. Fortunately, I could just use the Mulligan card to get out, and if I ran out of those, I could just close the game from the Steam launcher, boot it up again, and be allowed to restart the level from the beginning.

Could be better but it's decent for what it . Get it on sale.

Cursed to Golf suffers from being an excellent idea to not good execution. 2D Golf game like Worms Golf gameplay plus roguelike should be a winner afterall.

CONTROLLER IS A MUST!

In the tutorial you see that you can speed up the text, which also skips too fast to the next line and you can miss important details.

Your skills are called Ace cards, which none have a tutorial on how it really works. Sure it is a roguelike game, which you should experiment new items, the main issue is that comes with some skills that are not clear how it works or some have strange behavior. My main anger issues came with the card that allow you to redirect the ball in mid air, if you don't have a controller, this card becomes only half usable because you can only aim with the keyboard in 45º angles, which you should be able to aim with the mouse since you must use it during normal gameplay.

Which comes to my next issue, the check system. I had made a checkpoint couple holes before the third boss, because of the issue above, I would lose the match, since I did not wanted to wait until the boss sink the ball, I decided to abandon the hole, which I thought would make me go back to the checkpoint or ask what I wanted to do. The game just made me lose all progress. At this spot I rage quitted for a while.

Also at least the third boss seems a little unfair, both the first and second boss at least made a couple mistakes, the third just kept [spoiler]teleporting the ball around more than hitting it.[/spoiler] and not being able to use my cards the way it was supposed to, made me not happy at all.

It is strange that the F key is present at the HUD to zoom out a bit, but not E key to check the course and plan ahead. Also having the right mouse button to activated skills is really odd choice and made me miss some cards and shots.

I had a couple times a bug during the second course, the dunes/sands, that my ball was at the edge of a bunker and fairway and the game showed me a clear shot, but I hit the ball it hit the edge of the fairway and went backwards to the bunker. Do not remeber other bug happening.

Cursed to Golf is a good game, but way to frustrating to play and relax, and without a controller it is worse. If Steam had a neutral review, that is what I would give, but to make me rage quit in only 3h and two tries, it is a new record to me, so I am giving a thumbs down.

É um roguelike muito bom, com uma mecânica meio única voltada ao golfe. A arte é belíssima e os poucos diálogos que tem acabaram sendo engraçadinhos.
Achei que não teve muita rejogabilidade, uma vez que termina o buraco 18 (que não é tão complicado) não tem muito mais incentivo para continuar a jogar mais.

Pelas conquistas dá para perceber que muitas pessoas param de jogar logo depois dos dois tutoriais que tem, e não culpo, eles realmente são meio parados. Esse ritmo perdura no resto do jogo, mas faz sentido visto a dificuldade, é um jogo que acaba sendo bem punitivo se não conseguir montar uma build bem elaborada ou manusear suas cartas.

Em geral, acho que se estiver na promoção, e você gosta de de testar jogos um pouco diferentes, vale a pena!

A rouge lite that just ain't that fun.

Also having rng power ups be the deciding factor of the late game is not good when the runs take more than an hour. It made even worse when you can get a bug where chests just straight up don't give you cards.

Well done presentation and fantastic gameplay with variety of power up cards in limited supply to help you navigate what I consider 2D miniature golf courses with twists.

As others have noted, it can be very punishing and a loss means a restart... this can get time consuming. But stick with it and this can become a rewarding experience.

Others have complained about endless dialogue but everything seems skippable, so maybe those complaints are outdated

각 필드마다 랜덤한 필드가 펼쳐지며, 기본적으로 5번의 타수가 제공됩니다.
횡스크롤로 쭉 이어진 경우도 있고 층으로 구분되어서 아래 방향으로 진행하는 필드도 존재하죠.
벙커나 워터 등의 특수한 지역들도 존재하며 타수를 상승시켜주는 샷 우상과 특정 위치로 이동하는 텔레포터, 폭발하는 TNT 등의 특수한 요소들도 존재합니다.

필드에서 사용하는 골프채는 드라이버, 아이언, 웨지가 존재합니다.
종류에 따라 파워와 사용 용도가 다르기에 현재 위치와 목표 지점 등에 맞춰서 알맞은 친구를 선택해 사용해야 하죠.
참고로, 벙커에서는 웨지만 사용할 수 있습니다.

외에도, 에이스 카드가 존재하여 플레이 중에 사용할 수 있습니다.
타수를 상승시켜주는 카드도 있고, 짧은 시간 공을 조작할 수 있는 카드, 중간에 멈추는 카드, 이전 타로 회귀하는 카드 등 다양하게 존재하죠.
각 카드는 진행중에 획득할 수 있으며 소유한 카드만 사용이 가능하기에 적절한 시점에 맞춰서 사용하면 좋습니다.

최종적으로 홀인을 하게 되면 해당 필드를 완료하고 다음 지역으로 향할 수 있습니다.
독특하게 로그라이크와 유사하게 필드와 필드 사이에 다른 행선지들이 존재하여 이용할 수 있죠.
돈이나 카드를 획득할 수 있는 지역도 있고, 이터니티 상점에 방문하여 다양한 상품들의 구매도 가능합니다.
특수한 효과를 활성화해주는 핀이나 에이스 카드 등을 구매하거나 다음 라운드를 위해 카드 보관, 의상 변경이 가능하죠.

저주받은 필드에서 일정 간격으로 발생하는 저주를 극복해야하는 경우도 존재하고, 지역의 마지막 필드에 위치한 보스와의 경쟁을 진행하기도 합니다.

This game deserves better reviews than it has. I agree it is very difficult at first, until you get better and start learning how to use the abilities properly. Once you master the abilities, you will find it too easy. It was enjoyable for me to go from getting absolutely crushed to completely dominating the game. Overall I found it addictive and fun.

the game has a somewhat low user score on steam, and i dont get it, its perfectly good for what it is, a 2D Sidescroller Roguelite Golf game, that is a mouthful, but you can picture the concept in your head

my only issues with it, is that the tutorial is too long, a VERY important mechanic is only introduced AFTER you lose your first run, which is baffing, the game itself recognizes the mechanic is extremely important but waits too long to introduce it, the camera is not the best, but i dont think its as bad as the other reviews say, and some of the mechanics and course obstacles feel a bit "gotcha" like, you are meant to fall for em the first time

but overall, its fun, it has great graphics, good music and lots of golf puns, i personally recommend it

Woah, I literally never post any reviews, but this game is definitely something else. The graphics and the whole idea, powers and stuff are incredible... but everything else is HORRENDOUS. From menus, to never ending dialogues and tutorials, controls in the menus (you fast forward dialogues with space bar, something important pops up and you instantly skip it because its the same keybind), level design, camera, balance, frustrating and unfair mechanics... ALL. Feels like the devs didn't play a single hour of their game, because it's not even fun to play most of the time.

It's a really interesting idea but its executed in a really, really poor way. I was literally in the 17th hole and I don't even wanna keep playing to finish the game... and I hardly ever drop a game. Really shows why only 20% of the players have beaten the FIRST boss.

Don't buy it, it's extremely cheap at sale but there are ton of way better games to spend your time on.

i see the potential with this game, but dang dude. it has you do a round of golf as the tutorial ((well two actually...), half way through I decide I want to start it over to figure it out. NOPE, theres no restart you just gotta keep pushing through, so i hit all my balls to fail. WELP when you fail it just pushes you straight to round one congratulations you got it all figured out! So, I go to abandon round one thinking ok i'll start the tutorial over again, NOPE! I abandoned round one and now I'm on round two! So, I close the game, open it up again, maybe there's a menu to go to the tutorial... ROUND THREE!!!! Jesus Christ! Just let me start the tutorial over while I'm in the tutorial! I've played for 30 minutes and I'm so annoyed I wrote my first review ever.

I want to like this game, don't punish me for just trying to learn how to play it.

The music is decent pretty good and the premise is ok. Like other reviewers, I found the game to be punishing to the point of undermining any fun to be had.

It's not just "test your mettle" punishing-- which appeals to many (but not all) gamers, to be sure. It's a lot of, "Oh! That's what that does!" in a game with very little opportunity to practice or redo anything. So, if you like exploratory runs in rogue(like/lite)s that require you to invest a ton of time in failure to learn a solid win process-- and even then find yourself navigating arbitrariness-- then this game might appeal to you.

For others, I'd say give it a miss even on sale.

melhor jogo rogue-like que conheço, pode até ser difícil, mas ainda assim, não tira o mérito de que as musicas e a gameplay são muito boas além de que todos os personagens (bosses e personagem principal) passam um bom carisma.
eu tinha pirateado esse jogo faz muito tempo, eu comprei ele agora que tenho condições e minhas opiniões em relação ao jogo só melhoraram.

The novelty of a 2D golf game makes this fun at first sight but this novelty wears off extremely fast. The limited vision makes the driver incredibly unfun to use. Apart from that, you never have enough strokes to make it to the hole so you always rely on good ace card drops which is an insanely unfun gimmick.

bueno, ya que es todo lo que puedo decir del juego, voy a dejar aqui una receta de tacos de asada :D
Ingredientes
Taco de asada
½ aguacate
½ cebolla
1 taza cerveza
1 pieza arrachera
1 manojo pequeño de cilantro picado finamente
1 cda. aceite de oliva
1 limón
sal
½ cda. pimienta
1 cda. orégano
1 cda. ajo en polvo
tortillas de maíz
Elaboración paso a paso
Preparación
En un bol pon medio aguacate cortado en cubos, media cebolla picada, cilantro, dos cucharadas de aceite de oliva, el jugo de un limón, sal a gusto y mezcla todos los ingredientes. Reserva.

En otro bol agrega una cucharada de sal, una cucharada de orégano, una cucharada de ajo en polvo, media cucharada de pimienta y una lata de cerveza. Mezcla todos los ingredientes e incorpora una pieza de arrachera.

Tapa bien con papel film y deja dentro de la nevera por dos horas. Cada 30 minutos dale vuelta a la carne para que el sabor llegue a todos los lados igual.

Cocina en una parrilla la arrachera por tres a cuatro minutos de cada lado.

Deja reposar la carne y córtala en tiritas.

Rellena con dos cucharadas de la carne asada. Cierra y tuesta por ambos lados.

Disfruta tu taco de asada y acompaña con el aguacate y las salsas que gustes.
En la misma parrilla, unos minutos antes de que la arrechera está lista, pon las tortillas a calentar 10 segundos por cada lado.

1 year after the release of Golf Club Nostalgia, here comes a 2D game of golf with an arcade gameplay, different obstacles and roguelike elements. While Golf Club Nostalgia was nice, smooth and polished, this one is rough and not as fun and interesting. The difficulty balancing is poor, as oftentimes you won't have enough shots to reach the par. The way the game manages the map combined with an ineffective zoom doesn't help. Only for fans of the genre, but I suspect even they will be unhappy.

Recomendadisimo. Un juego muy divertido, bonito, largo y MUY DESAFIANTE (no sé si hay algo que lo rompa vilmente, pero si no lo hay, ojito con las 3 últimas rondas...). Sé que la idea es el estilo rogue, pero me sobra bastante. Hubiera preferido un juego de superar las misiones sin más, porque entre la dificultad y tener que volver a empezar una y otra vez... Pero es un juego rozando el sobresaliente para mi. Sorpresa en lo que llevo del año.

Você joga golfe com muitas reviravoltas e habilidades diferentes em um ambiente 2d. É um jogo desonesto, então você sempre começa do começo, se você falhou, mas os chefes você só tem que bater uma vez e eles vão lhe dar poderes permanentes.

Você estará usando cartas para se dar habilidades, desde voar um pouco, até ter várias tentativas para um tiro, ou vários tiros enquanto estiver no ar para alcançar lugares completamente novos! Mesmo cavando através de paredes e chão, ou faseando obstáculos com as cartas certas, torna este jogo muito satisfatório uma vez que você pular metade de um curso com eles!

Diz nas tags que é um jogo difícil, mas não acho que seja esse o caso. É justo. Você precisa de um pouco de tempo para realmente descobrir os truques e como cada powerup funciona, mas uma vez que você conseguiu isso, o jogo não é tão difícil. Eu cheguei até o final na minha 3a tentativa já.

Você pode definitivamente cometer muitos erros, mas se o seu momento é bom, já que você pode apenas tentar novamente encontrar a quantidade certa de energia para cada tiro, essa é a única coisa que você realmente precisa. Bom timing.

A música também é ótima e eu adoro o pixelartstyle!

Você pode argumentar que o jogo não permite que você veja longe o suficiente para tiros de longa distância às vezes, mas como você pode mover a câmera antes de tomar o seu tiro e verificar o que está vindo depois disso primeiro, você só vai precisar reagir uma vez que você disparou o seu tiro e desacelerar a sua bola, ou dar-lhe um pouco de impulso. Ele adiciona um pouco à dificuldade e o jogo dá-lhe tantas ferramentas para vencê-lo, que não deve ser um grande problema realmente.

Fiquei agradavelmente surpreendido com isso. Muito único!

I had a really good time playing this game. I love rougelikes and I was looking for a golf game and was pleasantly surprised how cool this mix was.
I had also seen some recent reviews saying this game was way too difficult and almost didn’t buy it because of that. But in my experience, I felt like game was pretty simple. I lost to the first boss probably 4 or 5 times and the game clicked for me and I ended up beating the game after my first win on the first boss.

I don’t think I’d pay $20 bucks but it was definitely worth the $3 I ended up paying lol.

Buying this game at a heavy sale at $2 might influence my opinion a bit, but a lot of you are just downright wrong when you say this game is hard. It's challenging, yes, but it's not punishing if you take what the game gives you and work around it's rules. This has been a joy to play for short bursts on my steam deck. I made it up to the third boss on my first run. Great humor, art style, the ace cards are fun and you quickly learn which ones you want in your deck before a hole.

The music is quite relaxing, but damn its hard, to much for just a casual "roguelike" Day. I wanted to play this to balance out my 60+ RPGs and Story as well as combat heavy games. But here i am crunching away, can't even beat the first boss after 3 hours. I dont recommend this to anyone that wants to chill, its pure grind and hard to learn mechanics.

I love it! everything from style to music to animations are perfect. Not sure about how much you're going to come back and play it but it's great. On sale it's an absolute gem for a good couple hours of playtime. Definitely going to keep playing this through the halloween weeks

Второй босс меня сделал когда я на середине поля был. Может для фанатов таких игр это и весело, но мне перепроходить все с самого начала не очень улыбалось.

The idea and aesthetic are good. But my God is everything biased against you that just makes it frustrating and not fun that you will be ALT+F4ing more than starting another run. Look at the achievement globals only 20% have actually beaten the 1st boss and 13% have even beaten the front 9 holes. If they would of actually listened to feedback and balanced the game we would very much have a gem here, but instead they abandoned it. Only worth it if you can grab it in some bundle or a deep deep sale.

Eita jogo difícil do carai, sorte que no final da run tu tem muitas cartas de poder (sim, o jogo tem cartinha com poderes), mas eu só zerei pq tava com um item roubado q me fez cortar o caminho pra vários buracos (tinha como ativar uma bola q furava o chão sempre q eu quisesse hehe) ....

Gimmick wears off EXTREMELY fast. There's a reason why golf games aren't typically 2D horizontal affairs: it's not fun. The other mechanics ultimately cannot fix a fundamentally flawed premise.

I recommend this game but know this will frustrate you & make it feel like the game is cheating. I got it on sale for $4 and that is the only reason its worth it. This game does a lot right for a fun take on a golf game but it does so much that is difficult to be difficult it such an unfun way. If you don't get the manual stick power up. Good luck. If you don't get smash golden idols good luck. This game felt more satisfying to turn off then beat.

This was a fun little game! I can totally recommend this!

You play golf with lots of twists and different abilities in a 2d setting. It is a roguelike game, so you always start from the beginning, if you've failed, but the bosses you only gotta beat once and they'll give you permanent powers.

You'll be using cards to give yourself abilities, from flying a bit, to having multiple tries for a shot, or multiple shots while in the air to reach completely new places! Even digging through walls and ground, or phasing through obstacles with the right cards, makes this game very satisfying once you skip half a course with them!

It says on the tags that its a difficult game, but I do not think that is the case. It is fair. You need a bit of time to actually figure out the gimmicks and how each powerup works, but once you got that, the game isn't thaaaat hard. I got all the way to the end on my 3rd try already.

You can definitely make a lot of mistakes, but if your timing is good, since you can just retry to find the right amount of power for each shot, thats the only thing you really need. Good timing.

The music is also great and I love the pixelartstyle!

You may argue that the game doesn't let you see far enough for long distance shots sometimes, but as you can move the cam before you take your shot and check whats coming after that first, you'll only need to react once you've fired your shot and slow down your ball, or give it a little boost. It adds a bit to the difficulty and the game gives you so many tools to beat it, that it shouldn't be a big problem really.

I was pleasantly surprised by it. Very unique!

The core gameplay is great if u like golfing games.
Couple of bugs which are really annoying like bugged empty shops or just being unable to swing. These have been reported months ago, but still not fixed. The lackluster roguelike mechanics don't really excite the roguelike/roguelite addict in me.
Overall not worth the pricetag.

Esse é um jogo de golfe totalmente diferente de todos os outros que já joguei, nesse é como se fosse um roguelike misturado com a sistemática de dungeons onde você precisa navegar pelo mapa até encontrar a saída. Além disso é importante saber que esse jogo não é fácil, principalmente no modo "Classic" que eleva o nível de dificuldade e só recomendo jogar após terminar a campanha principal para entender as mecânicas do jogo.

Pontos Positivos:
- Estilo único de gameplay e diferente dos outros jogos.
- Inúmeras maneiras de jogar os mesmos mapas com base nas ace cards disponíveis.
- Trilha sonora e estilo de jogo muito bons.
- Sistema de "Pins" muito interessante, permite iniciar cada round com "Buffs" diferentes.

Pontos Negativos:
- De vez em quando ocorrem alguns bugs principalmente no modo Classic que impede de usar as ace cards.
- Fator "Replay" não muito bom, após zerar os dois modos praticamente fez 100%.
- Fator RNG dos comandos, tanto a força como o ângulo da tacada ficam se movendo para o jogador tentar acertar o timing correto, mas isso não é uma mecânica de "habilidade" mas sim sorte, portanto o ângulo poderia ser igual outros jogos que permite o jogador definir.

Em resumo, esse jogo tem a proposta de ser difícil misturando elementos de roguelike, rpg/dungeon e puzzle, as ace cards e pins são os maiores aliados do jogador, permitindo deixar o jogo mais fácil ou mais dificil, além de permitir diversos estilos de gameplay.

No geral é um bom jogo e vale a pena experimentar se for alguém que gosta muito de jogos de golf e quer um desafio diferente do padrão. Quem avaliou negativamente com menos de 1/2h de jogo com certeza foi rage quit depois de perder alguns rounds kkk

Some of the main game mechanics have been designed completely in reverse, like choosing power of the shot before picking the angle of the shot, which makes the game so annoying and frustrating to play.

You constantly go back and fourth, having to re-pick the club, redo the power gauge, only to then see the new angles possible with the new club, and if that was wrong, you have to redo it all again, for absolutely no reason except bad game design.

And why do I need to hit a button and enter a weird and completely pointless camera mode before I can fully scroll around the camera to even see the course and obstacles in front of me and where my ball might land..? Unfathomable.

Also, the tutorial is not a tutorial but a story intro, and when presented as a tutorial, which constantly takes away the control and just ignores whatever strokes you do, it makes the process completely frustrating and you just end up wishing you had skipped it all, learning nothing while missing the story beats.

And while the tutorial teaches you almost nothing, introductions to new power-ups are non-existent, and often leads to certain game overs just because you had no idea how to use them and trying them leads to ruined shots and ruined runs (and more even frustration).

I like the art style and love the setup, so I hope the team gets to take another try at this, but right now I cannot play this without getting a stroke (hah).
