Initially, I found the full version of the game by browsing on f95. After playing for a while, I really liked the female and male protagonists and decided to purchase it. It indicates that the highest praise suggests that a positive ending does not necessarily require imprisonment. Additionally, I subscribed to the author's Patreon, but it seems that the author does not have plans to release new works.
Great visual novel. Unsettling, memorable, and thought-provoking.
It follows John, a high school student struggling with high-functioning depression, who meets Lizzie, a deeply disturbed girl obsessed with him. The story itself isn’t particularly complex, but it doesn’t need to be: it leans heavily on character writing and explores themes like psychology, boundaries, dependency, self-worth, morality, and inevitably, a touch of romance.
On a technical level, the production is fairly modest, but the writing is the real draw here. It’s a 3–4 hour experience, best picked up on sale or by anyone who wants to support the author.

A short yandere romance/thriller game. Has multiple routes with good and bad endings. Protagonist is relatable, and his beloved eventually becomes a great waifu, even if more on the mid tier yandere side at first.
Music seems to be public-domain only. Servicable enough, although I did wish there was a bit more variety.
Artstyle and drawings of the characters (and some of the enviroment) are pretty good, inlcuding the H-scenes you can see on the complete version of the game (free patch provided by the developer required).
Story is also pretty good and feels worth it to get the best ending. Do avoid getting a certain bad and depressing ending, though.

After quite harsh review of “It gets lonely in here”, it came time for this vision of lovesick character.
This game delivers much better story. The characters are well developed and offer deep backstory.
Their actions make sense and are realistic. The Yandere character is well written and feels like they were created with love. They are not just simply evil, there is much more to them. The game even offer the reason why the Yandere is the way they are and I think, that is really good especially because it makes sense! The protagonist of this story is not generic, boring type, that only is love interest of the Yandere, because they are the protagonist. They are actually well fleshed out and it makes sense, why someone would be interested in them. I really enjoyed the dynamic, that those two had between them. It was very fun and interesting. Outside of those two characters, the game offer intriguing side-plot, that is also well written and advanced. Plot of the story deserves rating 5/5
Visuals of the game are definitely the weakest part of the game. However, it doesn’t mean that they are bad. The sprites of characters are decent quality. Especially, worth attention are the scene graphics. They let the skill of the author shine. This all plays well, with the slightly old school feeling of the VN itself. (Like for example “The way we all go”)Rating 4/5 is fair for graphics.
Audio of the Game takes it to the next level. Background music really gets the reader into the mood of the story. They are fit perfectly to the scenes and work with them perfectly. Sound effects are well done and complement the novel. 5/5

Crimson Gray is a visual novel that manages to hit drama, thriller and romance genres at the same time. The story has us in the shoes of a college student named John who is suffering from depression. His life changes when he meets Lizzie, a sweet and quirky girl, but with some hidden obsessive and violent tendencies. In essence this is a yandere-style thriller romance story with choices, and all of these choices have consequences.
The story is fairly short and a single playthrough should take around 2 hours to complete. However, it is quite replayable because of its choice and consequence nature, and hence there are multiple endings which require different decisions from us throughout the game. In fact from what I noticed, even very early choices can have an impact.
There is a very interesting narrative style presented here. Our character John sees the world in grey tones as a side-effect of his medication and depressive state, and only Lizzie and his therapist are seen in colour. This is also complemented with the fact that there are only 3 named characters in this whole story - John, Lizzie, and Mrs Smythe (the therapist). Every other character is unnamed and instead is given tags such as "Classmate 1", "Lab Partner", "Pharmacist" and so on, which is a nice touch as it shows how John is hyperfocused on just those who are close to him and everyone else is unimportant and inconsequential to his life.
As mentioned already, the contrast between fully-coloured characters and grey-tone environments creates a nice visual style that fits the story and our main protagonist's outlook on the world. The art of the characters is brilliant. There are a few fixed poses and emotions, and they regularly change throughout each scene, which is a simple yet effective approach. And again as before, only Lizzie and Mrs Smythe have character artworks, and everyone else who is less important isn't even seen. Music also plays a big part in creating the emotions in each scene. There are only a few tracks really, but they fit each scene perfectly and kick in at the right time for maximum impact.
My only gripe with this VN actually is how ridiculously hard it is to get a true ending. Even though the game has other endings, they mainly come quite abruptly and the story doesn't feel complete with them (like the very first ending I got, albeit it was a very positive ending), which encourages you to want to get to the true ending to properly round up the whole story. But to get this true ending, you must've had done exactly the right decisions from the game's start that the game wanted you to do. I remember altering some of my decisions, which eventually did lead me towards what the game called "the right path", only to then give me a sudden game over. I don't really like it when games with story choices lead you down a drawn-out game over dead end, because it makes you feel like you've wasted your time. Gladly there is a skip feature in the game which you can use when repeating the same parts again. Ultimately I had to consult a walkthrough and follow it to a tee, without deviating at all before I could get this true ending. I would've preferred if there was more leeway in achieving it, and landing onto the right path would've been a sealed deal once you got there. Otherwise a VN with an engaging story such as this one turns more into a puzzle game where you push the story to the back and just begin trying every choice and wondering "what choice shall I change to get what the game wants me to do?"
That little gripe aside, I've enjoyed this story, and especially the character Lizzie. For a manic obsessive with violent tendencies, she's incredibly sweet and loyal like no other, and every interaction and conversation with her is engaging.
Recommending this VN to anyone who likes stories with choices that matter and romance with a character who is simultaneously unstable and alluring.

I like how the story heavily encourages on exploring the different options. There are choices that may lead to the same outcome, but there's always a minor difference. Sometimes you might get the ending where [spoiler]John lives happily with Lizzie, but she's still a heavy hazard. You could get the same ending, but a minor difference is Lizzie mellows out and experiences these tendencies infrequently.[/spoiler] There's also some small variations of the sex scenes such as Lizzie and John engaging behind stalls at a fair or at an empty hall of mirrors. The vast amount of choices that give minor differences in dialogue is great to see as any information helps us figure out Lizzie's past or finding out pharmaceutical wrongdoings, or lead to murder. I also enjoy how color is important both visually and storytelling. [spoiler] The good ends bring color to John's world, meanwhile the KoiTec route brings overwhelming darkness.[/spoiler]

I like the characters. There's only just three important ones, but that's all you really need. For a different visual novel, I'd probably complain about the lack of characters, but it works well here. To John, they are simply nameless. They are just something in his daily life, but not something notable. His world is full of despair and most do not matter to him, except Mrs. Smythe and Lizzie. Lizzie is mysterious, she tends to keep her past hidden and her home is suspicious. She has a dangerous loyalty to John and I like how it first started as a slow burn then exceeds into impatient desire. She also deems other females as competitation that may take John away from her. Mrs. Smythe is also mysterious as we see her as our counselor, but she tends to be impatient at times. [spoiler] Mrs. Smythe is also dangerous, as we are a guinea pig to her. Depending on your choices, you are also bait to trap Lizzie. To her, you were just her work. You were a necessity for KoiTec and its desires.[/spoiler]

The art by Redd Art (Reddverse) is great. I like the softness of the characters and it adds to Lizzie's cute demeanor, but Redd also does an excellent job on the violent scenes. Lizzie has different poses, facial expressions, and a different outfit. The same goes for Anne Smythe. The CG art is wonderful and displays the complicated synergy between John and Lizzie, along with the sex scenes showing their passionate intimacy.

It's fine for the first half, but after a specific event ([spoiler]Lizzie kidnaps you and locks you in her basement[/spoiler], things do feel quickly paced depending on what you do. The bad ends are paced perfectly, however the affectionate route where [spoiler]Lizzie DOES NOT encounter a murderous psychopath[/spoiler] feels quickly done and they swiftly run off. The route where she does encounter an enemy, I deem as perfectly balanced.

Of course art is costly, I understand and appreciate what's already in, but more pose variations for Lizzie and Smythe would add a lot more to the experience. There's a good amount of CG art as well, but some art for the violent scenes would help the experience too. Examples such as the fairground murder, KoiTec lab assault, or Lizzie's sorrow for if John dies.

An entertaining story with lots of information that yearns to be found. The pacing can be quick depending on the route, but overall a fine read.

I remembered this game on a whim, I had seen a play through of the game 6 years ago and fell in love with Lizzie (metaphorically) and bought this game and its counterpart Dusk and Dawn and 100% the game. I love this game with all my heart and I am so glad I remembered it and got to play it myself!
A well written yandere romance story dealing with themes of suppressed emotions and overbearing emotions.
Recommended if you like romance, highly recommended if you like yanderes.

I think this game had so much potential, but fatal writing flaws turn it into a cliche yandere VN.
The premise of playing as someone suffering from mental issues and dealing with a stalker could become something really interesting, but it falls flat. The plot about the medication drags it down and is overall extremely unnecessary. A story about two people who feed off of each other's instability and desperation would be so nuanced and interesting but the author barely scratches the surface. Instead, choosing to have an 'evil cooperation' plot.
My biggest gripe is with the writing of the LI. She's extremely stereotypical in how she talks/acts. There's barely anything new or interesting about her background and personality. She just runs as the typical obsessed girl with typical obsessive dialogue. It wasn't nearly dark enough. For a psychological thriller, I never even felt slightly disturbed. Everything felt flat. The game is clearly supposed to have some kind of comment on mental health, based on the MC's depression and how that's handled. But she feels like some kind of romanticized/sexualized 'crazy girl that's obsessed with you.' That's fine if you want to write a porn game that's a feel good fantasy for lonely men, but for something that wants to have depth it's incredibly disappointing to see depression be handled with much more care than whatever the love interest has going on (bpd? pychosis? aspd?)
Some other negatives are:
- the music was sometimes far too intense for what was going on
- writing/dialogue felt very flat and unrealistic.
- the mc just gets medication, no proper prescription needed?
- the world being grey concept is very good, but hardly explored. It would be interesting for things to become more gray when the MC's mental state is worse
- classmates are almost hilariously mean, didn't feel like real bullying at all
I'd be very curious to see what else the author could make, as there's definitely potential here. But, for Crimson Gray I'd recommend against buying it.
I liked it, but I got stuck at getting the true ending so I had to use a walkthrough.
It would benefit from having less endings in my opinion, but I'm saying that as someone who prefers a more kinetic experience with visual novels.

At first glance, the artstyle, main menu and simple writing style were unimpressive, but I was curious about the dark psychological themes and the mysterious girl with a hint of insanity. However, gradually, I found myself hooked into a vivid, eventful story with great pacing, branching interactive narrative that delivers a strong message and a hot, needy yandere girlfriend to multiply the enjoyment!
You can tell the love and care that has been put into this game by how well the visual novel elements complement each other, creating an impressively polished experience in spite of its surface shortcomings.
The short playthrough duration plays perfectly into the branching narrative, throughoutly exploring how your interactions with the heroine affect the outcome of your relationship all the while revealing her complex and delicate character. Besides the multitude of endings, there's a jaw dropping amount of dialogue variations based on your choices. Add the realistic illustration of mental illness, the dark secrets surrounding the girl and an incredibly handy dialogue skip function capable of clearing the game in a matter of seconds, and you'll find yourself replaying it, exploring all the "what ifs", uncovering every mystery and revealing more facets of Lizzie,
And - hopefully - understanding the depths of both characters' struggles, the healing power of love, and the strength that their bond is capable of possessing.

7GBP for about 2 hours. Story is very good and a lot of different endings, re-playable in the future too. A picture driven game with reading and making decisions which HIGHLY change the outcome of the next scene. Have not played story games like this before however i must say it was extremely enjoyable, not worth 7 for two hours for most im sure, however i do not regret buying it. Every scene is extremely enjoyable and has you at the edge the whole time deciding on what to do. Not a single scene where i was bored, looked boring from the pictures and i was going to originally refund it shot up with the story line and a cool atmosphere to it.
I hate decision games which do not let me make specific decisions based on what i think however the choices here were detailed and you can most definitely get the good ending the first time with the right choices.

Really, really love this game! Bought the game I think about a week ago and that same night I almost completed all endings because I was so hooked. I came back today and actually completed all the endings and achievements with a full gallery! I had to look up a guide for help with some endings because I just kept going in circles and getting the same endings, but I realized it was small choices that really affected certain outcomes! I like that because it shows how detail-oriented the devs and writers were! The game takes a nice spin on the Yandere trope with actual lore for the characters and the world, making the story interesting. If you like games with multiple endings, short and sweet play time, but have meaningful and interesting stories try Crimson Gray out; I really recommend it! Also! Wonderful art and amazing writing; the game gives a few, fun twists that had me gasping and taking a second to react lmao

Okay, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game. Um. Wow. I did not expect a game about about a yandere set in the 90s to be so real.
Without spoiling, I will say, this is a game about love between the mentally ill. About not only being accepted for your entire self, but being *loved* for your entire self. As someone who's mentally ill and has loved ones who are mentally ill, this hit so hard. People often think that when you romantically love a mentally ill person, including their "quirks" or symptoms, you're somehow fetishizing their disorder, but this game shows how it's so much more than that.
If you play this game, be CERTAIN to get the true ending at least once; there's a spoilers-minimal guide you can follow (I recommend doing so only after getting an ending or two first, though), and the true ending not only explains so much, it shows these two how they're meant to be. Honest, and so, so in love.
It's not for everyone, but it's valuable in so many ways; the deconstruction of yanderes/other "I can fix them" type tropes, the examination of mental health, the giant middle finger it gives the pharmaceutical industry (which is SO based of it), the realities of love between young people, and probably more; what this game will mean to you will probably depend on who you are. For example, if you're a writer interested in diverse, unsanitized depictions of mental health, this game is a fantastic case study.
100/10 for me. A game that isn't for everyone, but is desperately needed for at least some people.

Really loved this Visual Novel!
At first, I didn't think that the art style was really my type, but then I saw the CGs, and I really loved them! They were very good and unique!
The music is great!! Along with the awesome grey atmosphere of the game, it really boosts the experience.
And now the story... I very much enjoyed it! The story is interesting, but the best part is the character of Lizzie, AND the MC. They're both great characters. Firstly, the MC has very bad problems, but he has common sense and is actually smart! But, beside him, Lizzie is a great character as well. Usually Yandere characters are hit or miss, but the author hit the nail on the hit with Lizzie.
The only somewhat bad thing is that there are too many choices, and they all need to be in perfect sync to unlock the different paths, so it's pretty hard to do it without following a guide.

Crimson Grey is an unexpected gem of a game that i did not think would be as emotionally powerful as it was. i first came to this game for the yandere tag but i stayed for the incredibly powerful story of 2 broken people coming together and helping each other be a better person (and maybe commit less murders).
as for negatives i don't really have any, the mechanics are intuitive and make it so you can only skip the text you already read plus it doesn't allow you to skip new text makes the game feel a lot less like a maze to try to get all the endings. the length of the game doesn't overstay its welcome either as you need about 2,5 hours for each "campaign" i felt completely satisfied by the end of the game.
Crimson grey is a great game that if it got a sequel i would a 100% come back to experience these characters and their struggles and triumphs. a truly great game that blows every other visual novel out of the water. 9/10

The tone is all over the place. Like in some spots it tries to be serious about mental health, and present the Yandere trope in a believable way to compliment that.
[spoiler]Then the next second there's a subplot about an evil corporation and the meds they give to people, its like wtf.
Apparently the heroine (Lizzie's) mother was given meds from said evil corporation during pregnancy, and thats why she's a Yandere for some reason.[/spoiler]
[spoiler]Out of nowhere they also introduce a side plot that lasts literally 1 or 2 scenes; Lizzies mother had a friend who took the same meds during pregnancy, and her daughter kills another student while the protagonist is on a date with Lizzie, and she just knows all the details somehow. This never gets mentioned again.[/spoiler]
[spoiler]The worst part is, in the true ending the main character (who is like both a player insert and real character) and Lizzie both get captured, the therapist the protag sees is the villain apparently.
So our main character injects Lizzie with some serum he stole from the therapist, she suddenly becomes John Wick, kills the therapist and guards. After that, they escape, timeskip, they're together happily ever after. The end.[/spoiler]
I'd give it like a 5/10. Its not the literal worst VN ever, but the worst I've played so far.

Prime Yandere VN. It gets the craziness of the girl right while also giving her her own proper personality and a good backstory all around. The main character is well thought out as well, I enjoyed how his relationship and thoughts developed, although in a somewhat fitting way we don't really get to know about his own background as intimately as Lizzie's. I enjoyed the genuine difficulty in trying to formulate the right choices to get certain scenes, assuming you aren't just skipping through it all. Either way the choices and their outcomes are logical and satisfying. My only possible complaint would be the main antagonist being a bit obvious.

Buen juego, no se lo recomendaría a alguien que no le gusten las novelas visuales pero al que le gusten es muy recomendado, cada acción altera los resultados por más pequeña que sea, la historia está muy bien hecha en cada ligero cambio por las acciones del jugador. El desarrollo de los personajes no es forzado y se siente muy genuino.

В этой игре ужасно всё: визуал из пеинта; музыка кевина маклеода, от которой идёт кровь из ушей; персонажи, которые ничем не цепляют, и кроме как желания размазать их по стенке (благо, в игре есть выборы подобного плана) ничего не возникает при виде них.
Я понятия не имею, кому это может ТАК запасть в душу, когда есть куда качественнее, и главное, интереснее игры подобного плана.

Requires multiple play throughs to actually complete and get a "good end". Interesting take on a obsession (it is not pictured like that in the game - there is a backstory to find out). Not easy to figure out what choices need to be made and when and their impact is often delayed.
Wanted to be murdered but ended up having a happy life.

There is really not much to add since everything pretty much have been said by previous users. Great soundtrack, good atmosphere, and even better feel to it as you replay it hoping to get all the endings.
