Costume Quest 2 is a very interesting time travelling adventure that makes it a lot of fun to see characters from the past all grown up. One of the best improvements is that sprinting is now a universal ability so you no longer need to switch to a specific costume just to move quickly. The enemy variety feels a little better this time around and the special meter system is much more balanced than the previous game. Being able to use special moves every third turn was admittedly a little busted before so the change is welcome. The side quests are also more engaging now because they involve tasks like following claw marks to see where they lead. I also liked how enemies are grouped into monster, tech, and magic categories because it forces you to swap costumes to maximize your damage or improve your defense against certain types.

However I felt like the new combat system is a bit of a downgrade compared to the original. Instead of costumes having one of three unique attack sequences the combat is now entirely timing based regardless of which outfit you wear. It is also a shame that battle stamps were removed and replaced by cards that can only be used once every three battles. While some of these cards are pretty useful I found that most of them were not actually worth wasting a turn to activate. These changes make the moment to moment fighting feel a bit less distinct than it did in the first game.

Overall Costume Quest 2 is a charming sequel that improves on the exploration and world building of the series while offering a more balanced progression system. Although the changes to the combat mechanics and the replacement of battle stamps might feel like a step back for some fans the creative story and improved variety make it a worthy follow up for anyone who enjoyed the original.

A worthy successor to the first game. If you enjoyed it you'll enjoy this one as well. My only real complaint is the acheivement for having someone wear the candy corn costume for the whole game. The costume means the person cannot do anything. It doesn't make the game overly difficult - I imagine without it the game would have been quite easy. Nevertheless, I found it annoying to not be down a person. Granted it was my own choice to get the achievement. Overall though the story is entertaining, there's a decent enemy variety, it's lighthearted, fun, and needs more games in the series.

A good game that holds up well, and feels like a decent sequel with a fun story and good humor, but I definitely prefer the first game in almost every aspect. The combat in the first game was more engaging, because different costumes had different timing minigames during attacks that you had to pay attention to. In CQ2, every single attack is just "press E at the right time." It gets extremely monotonous after a while.

The costumes themselves are also kind of boring; up until very near the end of the game pretty much all the costumes are just human people. Superhero, clown, wizard, pharaoh, Thomas Jefferson, it's boring. The first game had a giant mech, a unicorn, a French fry monster, a jaguar, the key difference being you also got these costumes earlier in the game so you had more time to use them. The Solar System and Hot Dog costumes are really awesome in this game, but you can't get them until pretty much the very end which is unfortunate.

All in all I was very happy to get to play more Costume Quest and by no means is this a bad game, but it's just not as good as the first.

Charming and light hearted type of game. Not necessarily have to play the first game. The story is nice and short, especially well designed for a younger audience. Also perfect to play during the holidays, especially with the costume designs and story themes. However the combat while in the beginning were cool, since they decided to change it up from the first game, the fights take too long and are heavily repetitive. While the title screen is unique its a bit annoying after the first few times of starting up the game again. Would recommend buying when both games are on sale!
Works great on the steam deck. Achievement wise nothing crazy and only one will give you trouble (candy corn one). Easy to complete under 10 hours and that's with messing around

Not bad game, but I don't like most of new mechanic, it makes game not so comfortable for me. For instance it makes me using numbers 1,2,3 for using attack or other action during battle, furthermore it also make choosing foes or action more uncomfortable cause W and S using for choose a foe, A and D for choosing action. For me it is a problem. I like how devs improve graphics and don't use a lot of storage. In general I give it 7/10 good vibe, mid plot, and uncomfortable battle control.

Druhý Costume Quest se nese přesně v duchu jedničky - na hráče opět čeká humorné dobrodružství, několik kostýmů k objevení, které se poté na bitevním poli mění ve skutečnost a otevřený svět, se sem tam nějakou tou vedlejší aktivitou. Hra je o něco delší a větší, ale stále to jde celé dohrát vcelku rychle, což je opět plusem. Zase je to i velmi přístupné, i když tu je achievement, abyste celý titul dohráli s jedním oblekem, který neumí útočit, tudíž jsou aktivní jen dvě třetiny vašeho týmu. Ale i tak je to spíše "výzva" než výzva, protože je hra opět velmi přístupná a nováčci zde rozhodně neostrouhají. Pokud se vám líbil první díl, tak tenhle vás určitě nezklame.

Costume Quest 2, ilk oyunun sevimli tonunu korurken oynanış tarafında küçük ama yerinde geliştirmeler sunuyor. Cadılar Bayramı teması yine oyunun bel kemiği; kostümlerin tasarımları ve mizah dili hâlâ güçlü. Savaş sistemi ilk oyuna göre biraz daha akıcı ve dengeli, kostümler arası geçişlerin kolaylaşması tempoyu olumlu etkiliyor. Buna karşın temel yapı çok değişmediği için tekrar hissi tamamen ortadan kalkmış değil. Yine de kısa süresi ve sıcak atmosferi sayesinde keyifle oynanıyor.

Özetle:
İlk oyunu sevenler için daha cilalı, tanıdık ama hâlâ eğlenceli bir devam oyunu.

Es divertido si no los comparas con el 1, pero si lo comparas con el 1 es inferior, o sea el sistema del combate del primero era mas simple pero funcionaba bien sin complicarte la vida haciendo cosas raras que tampoco es que sean dificiles las del 2, pero no aporta nada que digas, o mira que pedazo de innovacion en el sistema del combate.

En cuanto a las cartas, eran mejor los stickers por ser pasivos, perder un turno usando una carta y luego tener que esperar varios combates para volver a usarla acaba siendo aburrido, eso sin contar que al final acabas usando casi todo el juego las mismas cartas, en mi caso caramelos, experiencia y reseteo.

En cuanto los disfraces, meh, los del primero eran mas molones y tenian mas identidad, aqui metieron una chorra de mejora de trajes que no aporta nada real, solo un pequeño bonus de mejora y un cambio estetico.

En resumen, si hicieran el 3 como no usen las mecanicas del 1 seria un completa patata, eso sin contar que necesitamos un postgame, eso de matas al boss final y se acabo, pss, dejame seguir jugando y ponme algo para hacer luego leñe xD

Short game to play if your looking for a fun RPG turn based game. Not hard in the slightest even with having the candy corn as you're 2nd teammate for the whole game. Combat does get a little repetitive and the removal of battle stamps for creepy treat cards is not my favorite edition. I will say im a little biased as I played this game before the 1st, but if were talking technical wise, the 1st game has its better qualities. Despite this I loved this game and played through all of it in 1 day. If your looking for a fun turn based to take up some time this is your game!

This is my first impression review (after finishing the original costume quest): why "fix" something that wasn't broken?

graphics have "improved", though I already fully loved the classic look of the game.

story involves time travel, and there are lots of new mechanics.

The story feels more like a reboot.

Haven't played that much yet, I might change this review later. so far, kind of disappointed, but I still recommend.

they made the combat somehow worse, now you just have to press one button with the same simple timing event, the time events just holds your hands every. single. attack.

the art is slightly better i guess? and the story is decent

just like i said for the first game, if you're looking for a relaxing and cute RPG game i recommend buying this game on sale but if you're looking for an actual good RPG game you'll hate this game.

they also removed the battle stamps and the "hardcore" achievement isn't even hard, just time consuming, as if the battles weren't time consuming already.

honestly, costume quest 1 is better, if there'll EVER be a costume quest 3 please make it actually good.

the fact the characters don't heal after a fight is actually pointless, because when the characters are low health the first thing is in the player's mind is "oh! i need to heal rn!" so now you have to go back to the fountain AND THEN go where you need to go.

i like this game, it's decent even tho the fights (especially early game) might be slow as hell, but the game could be better.

the game is also not that long, and you can 100% it easily.

- While previous game have some varieties in term of combat such as buttons smashing, QTE, etc. This sequel focused solely on QTE, both for Offence and Defence.

- The sequel also introduced some inconveniences that slow down the game progress such as:
(1) Health system, whereas the previous game allow you to continue from battle to battle, this sequel required you to get to save point and heal/save or eat candies. Both of which slow down the gameplay since you need candies to buy upgrades and cards and the save point can be a bit far and you have to go back and forth everytime you done battling.
(2) Enemies class mitigate damages also slow down gameplay
(3) Creepy Cards system cooldown only when you battle combine with previous Health system is a bit annoying
(4) Power move cannot be save and can take a bit too long to generate

I love this game. It's short and sweet and I knew it complete. It's a great little turn based RPG, love the cast of characters, the villain, the superpowers in battles. [h1] After completing the game 100% with all Achievements I have decided to write a detailed review without spoilers. [/h1]
A few notes first:
1. I have completed this game three times now, before on Xbox twice and now Steam.
2. I played through the Steam version of this game on my Steamdeck.
3. I have not played the first game yet, despite owning it.

[h2] Intro: [/h2]
Costume Quest 2 is a Halloween RPG game that isn't trying to be anything crazy, just a simple short game;
In fact you could very easily complete the entirety of the game in a single day with all of the achievements.

[h2] Combat: [/h2]
The combat seems to take inspiration from Super Mario RPG in my opinion at least, however it can get very dull and repetitive early on.
You'll need to time the button presses of your attacks to deal more damage as well as timing blocks (Blocks are fairly easy to pull of)
You'll also have access to cards that you collect that have various effects such as healing, dealing damage, increasing XP or Candy (This game's money)
They're nothing too special in my honest opinion, you can easily complete the game without using a single card.

You'll also need to collect Costumes that not only change your attack and special attack in battle but also effect the environment outside of battle, kinda like a Metroidvania in a sense where you unlock a power and you can travel somewhere new, even in previously explored areas.

And lastly, there are "Elements/Types/Affinities" that each enemy will have, as well as your own Costumes
Those would be: Monster, Magic, and Tech
None of them beat each other, instead every enemy and Costume will have a weakness to one of those three whilst also having a resistance/advantage attacking against one of those three;
If you attack an enemy you have a weakness to, you'll obviously deal less damage too.

[h2] Bonus Note: [/h2]
Oh, and also there's an Achievement for finishing the game while keeping someone with the Candy Corn costume in your team the entire game, as in you have to bring the Candy Corn costume to every battle (You start the game with it)
It's a funny costume but it gets old quick.

[h2] Steamdeck Section: [/h2]
Unfortunately despite being "Verified" on Steamdeck the game doesn't come without it's [b][i] issues [/i][/b]

1. The triggers do not work at all, you may notice pressing the right analog stick acts as the Left Trigger.
I have a simple workaround for you;
Go into Steam input and change your Left Trigger to Down on the Directional/Cross pad,
And change your Right Trigger to Up on the Directional/Cross pad,
Then go into Costume Quest 2's keybind menu and set the Sprint to Down on the Directional/Cross pad
And Change Costume to Up on the Directional/Cross pad
Sprint should automatically be LT, and Change Costume should automatically be RT
That's the first issue solved.

2. You may notice when trying to buy from Shady (The shopkeeper goblin dude) that the game spams the A button which will buy whatever is selected.
My workaround is usually to spam A myself because it can cancel out the A spam and you'll see the screen that asks if you'd like to confirm your purchase, hit B and then you're good to browse.
Another workaround could be going into Steam Input and changing your A button to Spacebar;
I haven't tested it myself, but it might just fix that issue for you.

3.Cloud Saves do not work for Steamdeck because your Steamdeck saves data in:

Whereas a Windows PC stores the data in:

Combat in this game gets super repetitive and boring and it honestly takes forever especially since they removed the battle stamps (from the first game) and replaced them with creepy treat cards that take a turn every time you use them. Which sucks because it makes it almost not worth it to use the cards in battle, but if you don't, the fights take too long and if you do use the cards the fights still take too long LMFAO

The game is still fun though, I just wish they kept the combat from the first game T-T i miss the battle stamps

Not recommended specifically for Steam Deck users. (If Steam says my play time is less than hour, that's not true. Playing games offline on Steam Deck messes with recorded play time) While the game is verified and it does run well, I encountered several bugs, particularly in the controls. For starters, the game doesn't detect controller triggers at all on Steam Deck. Pressing LT is needed to change costumes in the game, and not even Steam input or connecting another controller fixes this. I was able to get around this issue by changing the in-game button mapping to LB, but if you want to use the triggers at all, you're out of luck. Then sometimes when starting up the game, it decides to just spam the B button without pressing it, making it impossible to start up your save file, forcing me to exit and restart the game. Finally, when buying stuff in-game, the game will sometimes spam the A button, so if you're not careful, you could end up unintentionally spending all your candy. Strangely, I didn't have this problem when connected to a TV. I did play the whole game on Steam Deck, but it was such a clunky experience that I don't think this should be Steam Deck Verified.

A true gem of a game, I can not talk highly enough about this game. The story continues from the first but it is not necessary to have played in order to understand what is happening in this game. I like the art style, it is very visually pleasing, as well as the dialog being funny. The turn based combat is interactive enough to never get boring for me. A great single player game that I highly recommend for everyone to play. I played this game many times on Xbox and I liked it so much I got it for pc just to play it again.

This game definitely has things it's done better and worse than the first game. However, I don't think the cons are enough for me to not recommend this game.
Costume Quest is a really special game to me, having grown up playing through the first and second ones nearly every year during Halloween season. The replay value, in my opinion, is endless. With such engaging and fun characters going on wacky adventures and tons of collectible items and secrets hidden everywhere, there's something to get out of each playthrough.
One thing I do think this game did worse than the first is the battle mechanics. I just think the different moves required for different attacks was really fun and kept you aware of everything happening. The attacks get a bit repetitive in this one, but I would say the costume upgrades and "perfect attack" moves make up for this.
Just don't take the game too seriously and it's a blast. Really wish more people talked about these games.

This is a good sequel to Costume Quest, and while there are a few changes and improvements, it manages to keep all the things that made the first game enjoyable.

If you've not played the first this game is basically a turn based combat RPG where the kids you control equip halloween costumes in battle. The story in this game involves a time travel and is pretty fun.

My main criticisms for this game are pretty much the same as the first which is that its a bit easy and the battles start to get a bit repetitive towards the end. But as its not a very long game anyway that isn't really a big problem.

Overall if you enjoyed the first game you'll more than likely enjoy this sequel and if you've not played either I think its worth picking up both.

Ich habe keine direkten Vergleich zum ersten Teil vor mir, weil es zu lange her ist, wo ich ihn gespielt habe.
Aber was aufgefallen ist, ist das Kampfsystem, was etwas geändert wurde, die Kämpfe dauern auch etwas länger. Aber fällt nicht negativ aus. Da der Rest einen guten Ausgleich ergibt. Der Rest besteht aus Orte zu erkundigen, Aufgaben und Nebenaufgaben zu erfüllen. Es gibt auch einige Kostümteile zu finden, schöne sind dabei, die im Kampf auch gut aussehen. Und Spezialangriffe haben, die entweder aus Angriff, Heilung oder Verteidigungsfähigkeiten bestehen. Die Story ist vom Grunde her einfach, aber hier völlig ausreichend und passend. Die Steuerung mit einem Controller ist zu empfehlen, geht einfacher von der Hand. Die Spielzeit ist genau richtig, wenn man alles erledigt und nicht nur von Hauptaufgabe zu Hauptaufgabe rennt. ca. 7 Stunden sind drin. Wenn man alle Errungenschaften erreichen möchte, dann kommen noch etwas Zeit hinzu. Zusammenfasst ein schönes Abenteuer Game.

I was playing Costume Quest 1 at the release and absolutely loved it, but never came around to play the sequel.
Being close to Halloween, I decide to finally pick up Costume Quest 2 to play it on my new Steam Deck oled... and I was in for a treat. It's just as good as CQ1.
Such a wonderful atmosphere, fun gameplay and charming story. I loved it from start to finish.

Now I just hope we'll get Costume Quest 3. I want more.

This is an amazing Sequel to the first game and the DLC. The combat update was amazing it makes the battles feel a lot smoother. The cards are also so much fun to use vs the stamps from the original game. Playing with the candy corn costume made the game play a lot more interesting. Much like the first game, Costume Quest 2 is fun and cute! The story's just as interesting, and the villain is pretty neat! All of the new characters were entertaining, and it was fun to see some from the first game show up again. The new costumes are pretty cool, though a couple of them are kinda meh. The fighting mechanics have been improved upon, which is appreciated, as it makes the fights more interesting, though they're still rather repetitive. I'm not a big fan of replacing the stamps with the Creepy Treats cards, as I felt they weren't as useful and didn't use them very often. They can come in handy, but again, most of the time, I didn't find much of a reason to use them, especially the ones that don't heal your party members. All in all, though, it's a solid game and a fun play, especially for Halloween!

Hello friends,

Today I will review the game Costume Quest 2. This is a direct sequel to the game Costume Quest 1, so if players want to find out what happens because of that story, start with the first game as the storyline is a directly goes into this game at the start.

The second game in the series upgrades the battle system with new costumes, new moves, and cards you can use in fights to get a upper hand on enemies. The storyline is also very good. As stated above, it directly continues from the first game after the Grubbins on Ice dlc. Without spoiling too much, the story has to do with fighting a dentist who becomes the overlord of the world in the future and you must fight him to get Halloween back. One of the best Quality of Life changes is that they added maps in the game to help with navigation of area's and to show where to heal on fountains. There are no maps in CS1, but this really makes the second game shine, with many other QOL changes too. There are even side quests, specific cards to find, and even a secret costume to find. All of this makes the second game better really than the first game, in this author's opinion. Anyways, here are my PROS and CONS list:

PROS:

- A direct story continuation from the first Costume Quest, which is also available on steam.
- New costumes to fight enemies.
- Quality of Life changes to make the game better from the first game.
- Side quests and even a secret costume.
- A good for children game about Halloween.
- Works on windows 11 operating system.
- Works with controllers. I used a Zen Pro switch controller.

CONS:

- The buttons shown on the game may not match newer controller button mapped out.
- The cartoony graphics may not be liked by everyone.
- Some of the achievements are hard to get and may requiring replaying the whole game to get them. Technically, this is my second time playing this game and i got the harder achievements this time.

Do I recommend this game? Yes, I found this game very fun. The rpg mechanics and the story both shine in this direct sequel. Improvements in graphics, quality of life upgrades, and newer costumes made this game a fun time to play. This game is also perfect for young children. Many people have posted they want a third game in this series, but according to the developers, they have no interest at this time to make any new games in this IP. That is sad, as this was a enjoyable play, for me it was quite good. Again, make sure to play the original game first as the stories are connected to each other, and if you play this game right after that one, it will make more sense.
