Not a bad game, just the story and writing style was not for me. I do like darker stories, and games were multiple play thoughts revile more lore. This game did the kinda repeat play through well, it didn't feel very repetitive, However, there is very few CGs and I was just not into the soundtrack for the game.
I won't recommend this to people that are new to VN's as the story starts off kinda dry but picks up me towards the end. It doesn't have much romance in to, didn't really feel like an otome game to me. (more VN story rich)
In all very mid VN only get if on sale, as some very dark themes.
Cafe 0 is an interesting story that made me think about certain things in life. Is it incredibly deep and complex? Not really, unless you're quite young or you haven't been exposed to a lot of media. It has its moments.
The CG and sprites were not really my taste: the two main characters Ethan and Nathan look and behave like they are 11 years old, Corliss looks disproportionate in the birthday CG. The true route endings felt like they couldn't really find a good way to end it. The great reveal of the plot when the villain explain how they've done it is kinda a joke. Everything is wrapped up a little too conveniently.
Overall the game will give you 6-7 hours of gameplay. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad game but I guess it's a game made with teenagers in mind. In the end, it didn't feel memorable in any way and I'm just eager to play something else.

ストーリはやるせなくてどうしようもないが、一筋の光を見出すようなもので、
決して明るいハッピーエンドという感じでもない。
やや偏った言い方をしてしまうと、「丁寧に作られた同人の乙女ゲーム」的な印象。
コミケ会場なら1900円は安いが、数多あるSteamのゲームとしてはやや高め。
Personally the game was not for me. I had high hopes when I bought it around 4 years ago as I had enjoyed the previous game. However, this was not how I felt towards this game. I felt like the whole plot had so much potential but it just did not deliver. Even from the get go I wasn't really enjoying the game and that feeling became stronger especially when the whole big reveal ended up being really lackluster. I saw that someone managed to play this game for 43 hours. I am unsure how since I have completed this whole game within a little over 4 hours.
My advice would be if you aren't enjoying the writing style etc within the first hour of gameplay I would just refund it.
Aunt Sophie 100% deserved sooooooooooooooooooooo much better.
I have literally sat here for those entire 5 hours because I was so enrapt in this game. It's beautiful and was definitely worth investing in. It's now 11:42pm though so I guess I should sleep. There's always tomorrow to try another route.

The character art was pretty amateurish, the music was bland, and the characters/plot felt really 1-dimensional. Overall I thought it was pretty boring and the payoff for the mystery/sitting through the story was lackluster.

Игра выглядит достойно. Приятная рисовка (практически без нареканий с моей стороны). Музыкальное сопровождение не впечатляет, но им неплохо оперируют. Отличная озвучка.
Повествование и история мне тоже очень понравились. В самом начале могли показаться слишком типичными, но потом быстро затягивают. Трогательная история с достаточно непривычной героиней - ответственной, спокойной, серьёзной (хотя не всё так просто). В целом можно сказать, что некоторые персонажи довольно стереотипны, но подача и сама история настолько увлекательны, что все герои кажутся на своём месте. Не плоские картонки, а люди со своими мыслями и желаниями.
Выборов мало. Они делят игру на ветки в самом начале, после чего это скорее кинетическая новелла. Несмотря на малый интерактив читать интересно.
Проходить эту игру можно без первой части. Они имеют общую идею (завязка и двигатель повествования), но в остальном связь ограничивается одной отсылкой.

Как я уже сказал, знание первой части влияет на ожидания от второй и может искажать впечатления.
Эта игра длиннее, но не выглядит затянутой. Романтики здесь в принципе нет, по крайней мере не в типичном виде. Здесь история о других видах любви. Так что в целом атмосфера этой игры значительно отличается от первой части. Разные героини имеют разные приоритеты и разные взгляды на ситуацию, в которой они оказались. Именно эти отличия в отношении добавляют живости. Нет чувства, что всё это уже было.
В любом случае не стоит ожидать здесь того же, что было в первой части. Это достойная игра, в которую стоит поиграть, но настроение слишком отличается, что может вылиться в некоторое разочарование по итогу. Первая игра задаёт планку, с которой вторая не всегда справляется, хотя и показывает достойный результат.

Первая часть казалась мне посредственной отомэ, пока я не дошёл до концовки, которая перевернула мои впечатления от игры и значительно улучшило моё мнение о ней. Здесь я ждал чего-то подобного. Но нет. Истинная концовка здесь скорее ставит точки над i вместо введения неожиданного сюжетного поворота (здесь все твисты достаточно предсказуемы). Что произошло на самом деле практически полностью можно додумать самим в ходе прохождения. Поэтому как детектив/мистика эта игра не вытягивает, а концовка выглядит слабее, чем в первой части, и просто в сравнении с остальной историей. Но если воспринимать это меньше как детектив, а больше как драму, то это достойная трагичная и очень трогательная история про людей, их чувства, мысли и желания.
The game is quite nice. I Likes how the story goes, like our waiter in this part, like the atmosphere. I cleared it in 2 days without any hurry, there was no need for a guide to help me clear all parts. So, for me, it is quite an easy one. It was fun to find out the endings and the truth on my own. I recommend this novel.

Here we have a kind of mystery visual novel after one's death. Return 7 days before the heroine died and uncover more about what happened and about the characters.
The story itself is a little dark and tragic, especially before you start the true endings and found out all of the emotions. Yes, yes, you need to find your(the heroine) emotions. Because at the beginning of the story it looked like the heroine had none at all. Just like a living doll.
So, we have an old mansion in a remote location. The heroine is a new maid, who is now working for the two young masters.
Every day you need to try and find out a new hint so that you can see some memory of the past.
The mystery element is quite intriguing. I, personally, was not sure what had really happened until the very last moment. It's nice. It gave me a little bit of surprise.
And, I love the waiter in this part. For me, his character was the best in the game, but that IMHO.
Let's sum it up:
The "true routes" can be started after you experienced all of the emotions needed;
There are bad and good endings, as well as friendly/family ones;
The story uncovers bit by bit in every route;
There are achievements if you like such stuff in games;
The story has a dark and intriguing atmosphere;
The waiter - I love him so much. He was a great addition to the whole story with his character.
I didn't see any bugs or typos, which is nice;
All characters are fully voiced, even the Heroine;
The art style is likeable, IMHO.
In conclusion: It's not a difficult, atmospheric mystery visual novel. The plot is on a good level, uncovering pace is satisfying.
I recommend you to try it and decide for yourself. :)
Esse jogo é realmente interessante e intrigante, quase como a leitura de um livro, onde te instiga para descobrir mais sobre o passado e sobre a personagem, sempre fomentando para fazer escolhas diferentes, fazendo com que todas as rotas sejam obrigatórias caso queira entender a história completa, e diga-se de passagem, não é algo ruim e nem chato, na realidade, torna o jogo mais interessante ainda, pelas possibilidades e por fazer entendermos o todo e não apenas uma parte da história. Adorei e ´um dos melhores visual novels que já joguei desde que comecei a jogar esse estilo de jogo. O mais interessante é que ele literalmente não tem casais e nem nada do gênero, é uma estória que literalmente nos faz refletir, com mistérios a serem resolvidos, como em um bom livro. Fora que a trilha sonora é impecável e a dublagem é ótima. A única coisa que me incomodou foram os olhos do Edward e do Ethan, que parecem que tinham quatro olhos ao invés de dois (creio que na edição deixaram assim e não perceberam, então dá muita agonia ver isso *risos*). Fora isso, todo o resto supera esse ínfimo erro.
Espero que quem quiser jogar se divirta e se intrigue com a estória, bem elaborada e com pontos bem amarrados, sem deixar espaços para conjecturas ou furos.
It grew on me and I ended up loving it. It's not very long, it repeats but changes. It has heart.
This is not really a romantic story, so if you go into it expecting something like that you will probably be disappointed. Personally, I found the fact that the routes and overarching plot focused more on a platonic/familial kind of love to be refreshing. The game does get pretty dark in places, but nothing really gory or anything like that is depicted on-screen- bad things happen, but it's more about the tragedy of everything than the spectacle. The music was lovely and the art was good, even though I thought one of the main characters kind of had an awkward pose. I liked the fact that if use the default name for the main character, her name is voiced- I enjoy little details like that.
The mystery put forth in this visual novel is only ultimately solved by going through every route collecting all of the clues and then continuing to the True End- so this is a game where you need to play every route and not just one of them to get the full story out of it. I play a lot of these sorts of games, and I was actually surprised by some of the twists and turns. It took me around seven hours or so to read through everything, but I am a fast reader so keep that in mind. Without spoiling, though, I was satisfied by the True Ending and really enjoyed reading and finding out what was going on the whole way through, even if it got a little emotionally rough for me by the end. This game has a sad premise and at heart, it's still a tragedy- almost especially once you finally know the truth.
Roseverte is so good at making these games, I adore the Cafe 0 series. This game goes from good to amazing once you get to the true ending, like a lot of their games do.

Довольна необычная игра в жанре визуальной новеллы.
Ровное, неторопливое повествование со множеством флэш-бэков. Грустная, но очень красивая музыка. Милые, анимэшные персонажи. Выборы логичные, интуитивно понятные. И кажется, что это просто детективная история с налетом мистики, но есть одно но... Это история не о людях. Это история о том, что люди скрывают. Даже от самих себя.
Меня эта игра выжала (это конечно не Amnesia memories, где я истерически ревела, но все же).
Тяжелая. Грустная. Глубокая. Трогательная. Взрослая. Да, именно так. Главные герои подростки, а история взрослая.
Здесь нет хороших концовок (если тебе в самом начале говорят, что ты умер, довольно сложно ожидать хорошую концовку). Но все концовки каким-то образом помогают нам понять самих себя. Приоткрыть завесу на то, кто мы есть...
Я бы все же рекомендовала эту игру для более взрослой аудитории. Слишком уж она тяжелая, немного депрессивная. Английский простой, даже порой слишком простой. Но это и понятно. Правда всегда кратка и проста, ложь же требует много вычурных слов...
PS: Я уже скучаю по Noir - "хамоватому официанту", как его именует MC... Хотя, как по мне, он милый и заботливый, но редко это показывает...
incredibly interesting good story, I love it!
Although the art has improved greatly compared to the Drowned Mermaid it's not a good game. The story was filled with vague metaphors and writing which confused me. The characters didn't any depth, the backgrounds were boring and the music was bland. The endings were as vague as the metaphors, making me question what the heck actually happened.
The drowned mermaid was simple and effective in telling an interesting story. This game tried the same, but it got too vague in it's story-telling. I don't recommend this game. It's overpriced so get it while it's on sale if you do want to give it a shot.
The plot is engaging and arouse my curiosity about the truth of the mystery. Artwork is nice, but I prefer more anime-like, though. If the story is a bit longer, more details on each characters' story (I wonder why there's no detail in Heroine's backstory, like her history and family), it will be better. Overall, this is a good mystery VN
Alright, this game isn't much of a otome game but more of a VN. "Love" was only covered in one route which, I don't really mind that since I love mystery.
At first, I was very confused when I first played the first 2 routes. However, once I got the gist of things after playing 3-4 routes, my suspicion of who the culprit was became much clearer. 'The sleeping beast' as I thought, was the theme I had in mind like the anime 'Monster.' Basically, it's a story that covers human nature and I had great hopes for it.
Unfortunately, how the story played out was a little disappointing since "the incident" was so emphasised/dramaticised. To give credit though, the endings was pre good esp, true route 1.
Overall, the story: 7/10
Character: 7.5/10
Music: 8/10 (It matched each scene and the voice acting was also very fitting)
So, I'd say to give this a go if you are patient enough to go through 4 routes without much clue/hint. Give this game a go. If you're not interested with 14-15 year old kids as your main route/human nature & their psychology, this game is not for you. I bought this for sale for around $10 and I understand that with voice acting, it is quite a reasonable price. But, I'd say this storyline, the price should be reduced to around $5.Therefore I wouldn't recommend it for it's price.
Anyways, if you are interested in playing the game or have purchased the game, I'd advice you playing by this order:
1) Nathan Friendship route
2) Nathan Family route
3) Ethan Partner route
4) Ethan Couple route
5) True route

P.s. I actually quite liked Ethan's personality at the beginning. But, both his endings made me annoyed so, I preferred Nathan's endings. Nathan reminded me a lil of Ciel Phantomhive, a prideful noble who is kinda a tsun/a kiddo.

Es war wirklich Lustig wie unterschiedlich meine Meinung zu dem Spiel war aber erst einmal zudem was mir wirklich sehr Gefallen hat.
Die Musik! Diese ist wirklich schön, passend und auch auch die Japanischen Stimmen waren Unglaublich Emotional !
Der Zeichenstyle ist zwar nicht Unglaublich aber dennoch sind einige Bilder die man erst hinter her Freischaltet sehr gut gemacht!
Zu denn Dingen die mir eher nicht so gefielen war:
Leider war die Deutsch Übersetzungen an vielen Stellen nicht richtig Übersetzt oder sogar Fehlerhaft ( Da das Spiel Geld kostet finde ich das nicht sehr erfreulich...!)
Zur Story selbst muss sich sagen das leider sehr Langatming ist und man sich vieles schon denken kann was das ganze noch etwas nerviger macht erneut durchkauen zu müssen.
Die Jagt nach der schlafenden Bestie ist wirklich ein kreislauf...
Genau so sind die Entscheidungsmöglichkeit zu Anfang nicht gerade sehr groß...Da man nach zwei Entscheidungmöglichkeiten nur noch Lesen muss.
ABER!
Das ganze Lohnt sich sobald man die Wahre route Freigeschaltet hat, diese war so Emotional, spannend und zu Ende kann man wirklich eine sehr entscheidene Auswahl Treffen die mich wirklich sehr Geflasht hat.
Kurz gesagt das Spiel hat sich gegen Ende noch gerettet und mich damit von sich doch noch Überzeugen können.
Gerne würde wieder Cafe 0 Breteten ;D
Ich hoffe es kommen vielleicht weitere Spiele dazu raus!

CAFE 0 ~The Sleeping Beast~ is a mystery visual novel where you play as a young maid named [INSERT NAME HERE] who has to uncover the truth behind her death over the course of 7 days (though, technically the game's really 6 days, since she always dies on the 7th day). This'll be a pretty short review, but a TL;DR is at the end for those who just want a quick answer.
The gameplay is simple, but at the same time, I have mixed feelings on it. You pick choices at the start of the game that are pretty obviously telegraphed to be for developing relationships between one of the two characters, and then you make appropriate choices that allow you to become closer to the character over the course of the route. The game takes a Yoko Taro-esque route of "getting one ending, doing some parts over, and getting the next ending", but rather than it be just a select part or just an ending that hops off of another ending, you have to replay the whole game over again. Of course, the skip feature makes text you already read not much of a problem and the game isn't extremely long (I clocked in just under 5 hours), but I still found it a bit tedious.
The overall plot is pretty interesting, and I had some real "wow" moments once I put the pieces together, but the gameplay mechanic of replaying the game over and over to unlock the truth + some clunky dialogue bits can really confuse the player. As example, with the first route I had finished, I had absolutely no idea what just happened, and toward the end of the game, it took a bit of repition to understand some key plot points. I could see these as points where many players might just stop playing/give up. I really advise that you push through these slumps, because I did have a fun time with the story at the end of the day.
Soundtrack and all art are pretty great, and very atmospheric. The characters of the game are pretty easy to figure out just by looking at them, but they're still plenty enjoyable. If you're not a fan of the "European noble house near village" kind of setting/played one too many Fire Emblem games, however, this may feel pretty generic to you.
TL;DR:
[b]Would I recommend you play this game?[/b] Yes.
[b]Would I recommend you play all of this game?[/b] As the entire plot comes together only when you've finished the true route, it's nearly mandatory you play all of the game. (To get an even fuller experience, I also recommend saving during the final set of choices of the true route.)
[b]Does this game offer a lot of content?[/b] A good amount. Not too much, but not too little. The bit of repeating dialogue can be a bit annoying, but new things are still learned in each playthrough.
[b]Is this game hard?[/b] It's rather easy to play since the choices are so obvious, but, at least for me, it was a bit tricky to wrap my head around the actual mystery of the game- the true route really helps you out here.
[b]Should I buy this game at full price?[/b] A sale would probably be your best bet. $20 feels a little much for a game of tis calliber, but half price is about right, and what I paid.
I rate this game an 8/10.

A disappointment. I found the first Cafe 0 very flawed but I enjoyed the premise. I am glad I got this on sale but $10 was still too much. Before I start I will say that some will enjoy this, though I felt cheated. If you enjoy long conversations about growing feelings and building trust you may enjoy this game. I do come from a horror game background where I expect something more explosive (expecially when 'THE INCIDENT' is shoved in my face) but if that's not what matters to you it coudl work.
I LOVE houses and buildings with a secret, a dark secret that must over time be discovered. How intriguing does the 'Sleeping Beast' sound? The house of Fata Morgana utterly swept me away. I will just say that the secret is not worth the huge amount of effort you must slog through to get there. Four routes to enter the true route and find the truth, and I was utterly exhausted and bored, so a poor outcome awas a major disappointment. It involved a reveal that I guessed almost immediately and not much else. Also, the 'drowned mermaid' has subltle parallels with the Little Mermaid so I was expecting a 'Beauty and the Beast' parallels. They're not there. Everything but the Cafe 0 elements are have a non supernatural explanation.
This is not an otome game but you can romance one of the characters. Your character appears about 20- possible older in anime years where girls are always super youthful- and the two boys you interact with are 14. I think you are supposed to be younger, but it did make me uncomfortable. Are they supposed to be considered attractive? I am older and don't mind romancing a young man as a young woman, but there seemed to be too much of an age gap. But that is only one of the routes.
The real problem is that the two boys are not very interesting. They are said to be 'opposites' but at their core they are very similar. They are closed up with few memories or experiences, largely due to age and inexperience. The conversations with them are trite philosophical or emotional exchanges- you can form a partnership, friendship, family relation, or love, and all of these are talked about but only shown a little. The interactions are echoed with flashbacks from Sophie's aunt which have the potential to be interesting, but end up lacking as well. I liked Sophie and Eva and they deserved better.
The one thing I will say is that I changed my mind about the main character. I rolled my eyes at her perfect subservience but realized that was the mask of a cold woman who warmed up over time. I thought that her awakening self was done well. The drawings were lovely, the sound effects well done, and good music- this was a professional product compared to the first Cafe 0. The translation is also very good.
I hope these games will stop using the 'true ending' as bait. Let the player solve the mystery at their own pace, and to their peril.
The game is absolutely delightful! The start may seem slow and boring at first, but the longer I played the more I came to love the story. I didn't expect to cry even. I recommend this game to anyone who'd love to read a beautifully written story.

先不说这不是个乙女游戏，光是游戏的cg和场景就有点一言难尽，可能资金都去了配音吧（不过配音还不错）。立绘还不错，但是CG有点崩，尤其是女主的，跟立绘有点差别。还有一些小暧昧小甜头的事件，居然没有cg的！！！！！！！！！而且故事内容比较短，这个价钱就算夏促都不值得购买！！！有这个钱还不如购买别的游戏……
至于内容，真特么……没有好结局……
在你以为可以攻略其中一个可爱的美少年的时候，作者却狠狠地打了你一脸，不仅如此每个结局ed后还给你一个补刀。终于好不容易有个恋爱点的路线，没想到是be+有补刀就算了，特么的真结局线还给你鞭尸……
搞不懂作者在想什么，我知道你很有想法，但是，这个故事讲得好失败……悬疑这一点的确很勾人，然而真相就那么一回事，虎头蛇尾……【重点是居然不能攻略两个可爱的小天使。。。。简直难受。】说到底这一切的错都是那该死出轨！！！！该死的渣男！！！！

First of all I want to say is I love the art and the characters. They all have a own past and story. The heroine is a sweet but sensetive girl and she suit the story very well. I love the endings some of them are a bit sad. But I enjoyed it!

For those who could read Chinese, 我认为这个游戏绝不值这个价格和需要花费在全通它获取真相的时间！游戏的背景图片真的非常尴尬，令人出戏的尴尬。故事也很神奇，我玩到真相线整个人如鲠在喉，因为真的没想到一堆变态大杂烩最后居然炖出了日式鸡汤。
变态也请变态得彻底一点！！好几次我都很激动觉得“哦哦哦熟悉的日本变态故事的味道我好兴奋啊“，接着下一秒要么就给你轻描淡写一笔带过要么就当场打脸。真的，专心写写变态的爱憎挣扎不是很好吗，为什么否定他们的确是拥有太过庞大的情绪这个事实，而用”你不过是在逃避而已”这种让人犯呕的鸡汤来结尾。好可惜，真的好可惜。
……不过编剧有的地方我真的挺欣赏的，但是笔力太太太不够了。荒废了九个小时拿到真相成就以后，我终于明白为啥虽然全是好评但评论这么少了。

I have to say I am deeply disappointed.
I like the OST, the sprites and the game design. However, I just cannot ignore the fact that something is missing in this story.
Many reviews say that the characters in this game are complex, and the story is full of pain and melancoly...though in my opinion, this might be what the creators intended to achieve, but not what the real game actually shows. I can feel the effort the creators put to shape the complexity of each character, but the outcome is just shallow and awkward.
Yes I DO feel creators are trying. They show me the skeleton of a gorgeous beauty, but stop giving it a life. Can there be anything more disapponting than this? I could sense the morbid yet enchanting personality some characters possess, but there is no further detail to depict it. The text is just like "You know what, this character has this trait, this is all you need to know. I won't give you any further description about how this trait affecting their actions".
Why just show a treasure in a few sentences and then cover it up? Why not show more details of the weaknesses of each character, to make the drama caused by them more acceptable than affected?
And the last point is, everyone is somehow selfish. Selfishness is the reason behind every individual's every action, so if someone behaves totally different from others, there must be
something motivating them other than simply selfishness. This word is not panacea for everything. Its existence cannot deny that some characters in this story are truly HENTAI. If you try to justify HENTAI using a normal logic, it will only humiliate them.
Please don't show me a Japanese "you are just being selfish" chiche after giving me so many possibilities of a good story about love crime.
As a person who has read a tons of visual novels, I won't say this game is totally bad; it is just not worth the price. I'd rather save the money to buy games like Soulslayer and House in Fata Morgana.
I didn't read the tags as usual (lol) so I didn't realise this wasn't an otome like the previous Cafe 0 so no romantic focus, it's more of a philosophical and mysterious kind of story :3
It's an improvement overall compared to The Drowned Mermaid in all aspects from art to character and story.
Definitly recommend if you like VNs in general :D
This game absolutely blew my socks off! The contrasts between The Sleeping Beast and The Drowned Mermaid are phenomenal, as this game is much longer with more endings and CGs, as well more plot twists than I can count on my fingers. I recommend this to anyone who likes vns, it's a must have.

I am officially in love with CAFE 0 series.I am very impress of the variety of choice leads to different tales that is being told, when I say different, it was very different! Some of the visual novels they re-use a scence after few sentece after a choice (so when i want different ending, skipping was like a fast tract) But this really got different story and path after the choice were made. It was surprising at first, but I am very pleased.
The first one I played was a bit surprising, but this one i have already prepared my heart to play it. And I would say it as what I expected, or maybe I should say exceed my expectation. It was easy to play and I enjoyed the story very much.
It seems that improved the voice acting, though there was a bit of awkwardness, but I am glad they had an effort to improve it.
If there is another series, I would deffinitley go for it. They stories are very interesting that I am excited what stories they'll have next.
I am not a good judge for arts because I bought this purley because of the story. But the BGM are actually very nice. They put alot of efforts on them. It suits the timing and I dont think there was a time I thought it was awkward.

I love the art, sound track, voice acting, and story. Solving the 15 year old mystery of disappearances in the villa, and how it relates to the MC's own death, was super interesting and engaging. I loved getting to know each of the characters' past, trauma, and experiences.
This game definitely does justice to the first game. I really hope there will be more Cafe 0 games in the future.
Definitely a visual novel worth playing! At first I wasn't sure but I soon became addicted to the storyline and played it until I had unlocked every achievement. A very well thought out plot with deep, emotive themes. Loved it, thank you.

This second title of the CAFE 0 series from roseVeRte feature a different female protagonist Corliss Green who took up employment as a servant maid for the Ashford villa while searching for her lost aunt Sophie Evans ends up at Cafe 0. With the Cafe 0 waiter Noir, Corliss is sent back to the living to uncover pieces of her past, discover more about herself and the mystery surrounding the Ashford family and eventually find peace in her journey after death which is unavoidable and will always occur within 7 days at the time of returning back to the living world. At the Ashford villa, Corliss is introduced to two members of the Ashford family Ethan Ashford and Nathan Ashford and the family butler Barclay. As Corliss attempts to find out more about her past through each character, she will return to Cafe 0 and back to the living again, reliving the same 7 days prior to her death with additional hints and past memories before eventually choosing an ending without returning to Cafe 0 in a tale of mystery, intrigue, subterfuge, fertility, love, honour, jealousy, duty, loyalty, superstition, witch-hunting, betrayal and vengeance.
The game has plenty of save slots to allow different gameplay and dialogue choices to be made during the game, with a different coloured heart(black, blue, green or red) or gold gear popup icon to reach a different storyline branch and the option to skip and fast-forward any part of the game. Soundtracks and overall game presentation are good after factoring in theme song with vocals. Recommended when game with theme song and soundtrack DLC are at discount or in bundle offer as it takes less than 10 hours to unlock all past memories, reach all endings and unlock all CGs and achievements.

[i]CAFE 0 ~The Sleeping Beast~[/i] is RoseVeRte's latest visual novel and the second game in CAFE 0 series so far. Comparing this newest installation to the previous one, it should be an obvious conclusion that RoseVeRte came a long way in five years and acquired a significant achievement in producing [i]CAFE 0 ~The Sleeping Beast~[/i]. Following the same concept in a different story, this sequel presents a similar supernatural mystery with astonishing depth this time.
Our protagonist and the one to find her way to the strange CAFE 0 after her death is Corliss Green now. She is a young girl who has been working as a maid in the Ashford Mansion, residing on countryside near a village, for a week before her death. Apparently, Corliss came to the village to find her aunt Sophie Evans to fulfill her mother’s dying wish, who was missing for 15 years now and was offered a position as a maid by the household butler of Ashfords, Mr. Barclay. Being the stoic, apathetic woman she was, Corliss accepted the position without a thought since she had nothing else to do around. Apparently, she was always better at following someone else’s orders rather than deciding for her own. When she ends up at the cafe, she is greeted by Noir - another waiter equal in rudeness to Sui, yet less creepier, much scarier I'd say - and informed that she is to relive the last 7 days of her life before choosing a new destination for her afterlife. Oblivious and somewhat insentient to the events of her past and the true story of her aunt's disappearance at first, Corliss is forcefully sent back by Noir. Now she is expected to make choices, relive the week and discover her true self by learning certain emotions. While doing so she will also collect various information concerning the past and the current inhabitant of the mansion to shed some light to the case of the Sleeping Beast.
The narrative quality and the event flow in the game are spectacularly good. All characters are fleshed out, with layered personalities, traumas, expectations, personal needs and distinct attitudes. It has been a delight to watch different characters in different probabilities and interactions. I'll state this directly: there are no stereotypes in this game. Every single one of the characters involved are presented with depth, nature and demeanor worthy of a Victorian novel. The whole idea of living through the same time interval affected by different choices and results is a beautifully used narrative tool here. This way, developer also manages to gather all different playthroughs into a single story, establishing a neat narrative consistency, which is a rarely achieved feat in this genre. Watching Corliss to discover about different emotions and grow as a character was a sorrowful delight. The mystery itself and the whole setting is a deeply melancholic one, so if you'd prefer cheerier stories, this might not be your cup of tea. Be warned about probable heartbreak and disturbing insight into human nature. But I know that I appreciated it all.
Did someone said artwork? Well, CGs are not various, but the ones that we are presented with are top-notch. I know I'd love to see Ethan, Nathan and Corliss in more CG artworks but hey, I'm not complaining. Compared to the previous installation, [i]CAFE 0 ~The Sleeping Beast~[/i] displays a magnificent growth in artwork department. Also, the game soundtrack prepared by Yuang Chen and performed by The Seycara Orchestra is a complete delight, fitting for a glorious anime OVA even.
Gameplay itself is somewhere between a choice option VN and a kinetic VN since the choices that we have here around are not various, yet their results reinvent the storyline so massively, you don't get to be bored of reading it. For the first three days, you'll have some choice options, which will effectively make you end up in one of the 4 paths. After that point, you'll just sit back and watch the path itself unfold. In each of these paths, you'll be collecting "hints" through your conversations with the inhabitants of the house. At the end of the day, Noir will use that hint to show you a fragment of the events concerning your aunt 15 years ago. After completing all 4 playthroughs and starting a new game, you'll get the opportunity to play the "true path" to solve the mystery of your death and the mystery of the Sleeping Beast once and for all.
Would I recommend it? That is a definite "YES" coming from me. What we have here is a visual novel well-done with all its mechanics, artwork, narrative functions and setting development. Go ahead. This will be a impressive journey!

It's been really interesting so far!
I just finished this intriguing mystery novel. If you are into a twisted tale filled with all kinds of emotions which will leave you surprised, and interested for more than I suggest you give this game a try. This was a well thought out and original story. You start to enjoy the characters and you learn a lot about their past and how that past shaped them up to be into complicated people. Everyone in the game has secrets to hide from each other which leads to a lot of tension between everyone. It's like everyone is against each other or so you think. Don't miss out and get the game.
This is definitely Roseverte's best game so far, and I will tell you why.
First of all, I'd like to say this visual novel isn't really an otome game; rather, it's a mystery game heavily focused on love. But what is love? Love is not only romantic, there are different types of love (such as family love, frienship love, etc) and THIS is what I'm talking about. Cafe 0 ~The Sleeping Beast~ is a game about love.
You play as Corliss, a maid hired to work for the Ashfords, a noble family living in a modest village. Unfortunately, Corliss is dead by the start of the game and arrives at Cafe 0, a place where "lost souls" gather when they don't know where to go after death (it reminded me of a sort of limbo). Here, she meets the grouchy waiter Noir, who tells her he'll send her 7 days prior to her death so that she can find out why she died...or could there also be something more? Of course there is, it's a mystery game after all ;D
The game has a total of 5 routes; 4 of them are for the Ashford twins (2 for Nathan and 2 for Ethan) and the remaining one is the true route, which is unlocked after you finish the other 4. Personally, I recommend this order of playthrough:
1) Nathan Family route
2) Nathan Friendship route
3) Ethan Couple route
4) Ethan Partner route
5) True route
Wait, what? Couple? Is this an otome? Well, although there is a route focused on romantic love, remember what I mentioned at the beginning of this review: Cafe 0 is a game about different types of love. Corliss is, how should we put it? A doll-like person, she's not what some people would describe as a 'kuudere'; rather, she's empty and only does as she's told. It's thanks to her interactions with the twins that she'll discover different feelings along the way (or along the routes haha) and, therefore, grow as a person and find herself.
Some may think Corliss could be boring because she "doesn't feel anything" but NO, ladies and gentlemen, Corliss is a GREAT heroine who will also make you laugh several times due to her bluntness and, as she starts developing different types of feelings, she'll warm your heart. Then, of course, how can we forget the twins? Nathan, the tsundere yet kind boy and Ethan, the cheerful yet mysterious boy. I don't want to spoil anything because it's really a much better experience if you found out for yourself just how charming and loveable these 2 are.
There are also other characters which will make an appearance in the past; this is due to Noir's power, but only when you find a HINT. Another reason why I recommend to play Nathan's routes first is not only because they have the least spoilers, but also because the game gradually gets darker and darker...and I'll leave it at that.
So, to conclude, what are this game's pros and cons?
Pros:
-Beautiful art and GUI
-Excellent OST (the developer is thinking of selling it, yay!)
-Great story with lots of mystery and twists, but also heartwarming and funny moments
-Great dialogue
-There are very little repeated conversations, and they actually function as a sort of bookmark to the story
-Amazing characters (especially Corliss and the twins)
-Incredible japanese voice acting
-If you leave the default name 'Corliss', the characters will call her by her name <3 (like in certain otome games)
-You can easily go to the menu with just a right click on the mouse
Cons:
-The descriptions are not as good as the dialogue; many words such as "suddenly" are repeated plus there are certain phrases which are too commonplace (for example, the typical 'tears rolled down my cheeks')
-This is not really a con but the birthday scene only changes on the true route, which is ok but I would have liked to see a little more variation of this scene on the other routes as well
-This is just personal preference so you can ignore it if you don't agree but, having played a wide variety of visual novels, I've really grown accustomed to skip buttons being on the textbox. It's true that some of them are quite big and, therefore, cover a bit of the screen, but I've seen many visual novels (particularly otome games) where the skip button was small and convenient
So, in the end, do I recommend this game? Of course I recommend it! It's a must play!

This game is better than The Drowned Mermaid in that there is not as much repeated conversations. There are hints in every day and it is very interesting to see them fall into place with your suspicions confirmed. If I were to play this game alone, I might not have realised it's by an indie game developer.
The plot, characters are really good, a lot better than the Drowned Mermaid, and most of the OST really suits the atmosphere of the situation. The characters were also portrayed well with the great voice acting.
Again, my praise for this game could be because I did not expect to see such quality from an indie group - especially in the character voices and the design. In my opinion, I am extremely glad to have bought it so I can replay it.

This is my first time writing a review, so sorry in advance if this is really one sided opinion. Remember this is only my personal opinion!
I have found most of roseVeRte's games verry appealing so far and this game haven't disapointed me thus far. I don't have much that this review is based on cause I have only played Nathan's friend route, the demo an a few thing I saw the the developer write on Twitter and Tumblr so I write based on that for now, but I might change this review later on. So far I find the characters appealing in both the personality the writer have given them and the art/ character designs itself. I like how the MC is kind of like a doll in the beginning, but changes after interacting more with the other characters. Nathan's is so cute with his blushy faces. (almost tsundere if anything)ヽ(＊>∇<)ﾉ Not going to say more about Nathan's, cause it might be spoilers, but you can really see both the MC and Nathan's development as you play. I found the friend ending a bit sad and i was almost in tears near the end. (/ д； ) It deffinitely tuched my heart in a sad but good way. That's might be given cause one of themes of the game is death. I find the writing great, but it looks like roseVeRte decided to focus more on the mystery in it self rather then the interactions with the characters. It isn't a bad thing if you came for the mystery and it still got a few great interactions despite that! The game also have a bit of comedy or funny senes or interactions. This game is not exacly an Otoge, but it got Otome or romance elements even though that's not the focus. I also like the fact that a bit of the truth behind the mystery is hinted in in every route so you can guess what is to come and kind of colled pices and put them together and you also get 3 truth ends that i have yet to play. But this game makes one stay curious in my opinion and want to play to find out what happens next and is so long that you have to wait too long to get the pices together and might lose interest along the way. So i find it good that it's not long considering that. I personaly like short or not too long VN's because of that reson. The voice actors did a great jobb with the voice acting and i simpely loved the soundtracks it fit well with the situations. So I'm personaly verry satisfied with the game thus far and don't have complaints or anything negativ too say so far. So I want to give this game and the developer and cast a big thumbs up. (*＾-’) 乃
It might not be long and some people might find the game expensive word count wise, but quality wise the game is deffinitely worth it and you should definitely give it a try. The game is not a tragedy exactely, but if you want something that can tuch or mess your feelings depending on haw emotional you are i would recomend this ride of feels lol (*＾∀ﾟ)ъ. But with all jokes aside I would recommend the game to thouse of you that like mystery, VN, Otoge, something that's not too long, want to play something different for a change of peace or if you would like to play something that can touch your feelings. If it's important for you that this is an complete otoge this might not be for you and both girls and guys should try this cause it does not look like it's targeting a specific gender specific even though some people might argu that it's for girls. And if yor not sure if you want to play it or not you can always try the demo first and see for yourself if it catces your interest, but the developer did say that the demo is short to leave out spoilers so you might not get enough impressions to decide if you want to give it a try but I hope It does. Too bad it's not longer, but I can understad more or less why the roseVeRte decided to do so. Leaving this aside I can't wait to play the rest of the game~ (•̀ᴗ•́)و ̑̑
