Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this game. I generally enjoy the kind of mechanics it’s built around, but the overall game design falls short.

The first two hours were genuinely fun, but after that, the experience quickly became boring. I’m not even sure why I pushed myself to finish it. Visually, the game looks great - I really like this kind of style. Mechanics like time control, object swapping, and others are solid in isolation, but…

There are a lot of issues.

Level design can feel awkward. At times, it’s unclear where you’re supposed to go, and some puzzles become frustratingly unintuitive. You often don’t know whether you’re approaching a solution correctly or trying to reach a platform that isn’t even accessible.

Checkpoint placement is also inconsistent. Sometimes there are too many, and other times they’re spaced far apart in sections that are difficult to complete, which adds unnecessary frustration.

The controls are another problem. At first, they feel smooth and responsive, but later - when precise jumps over long distances are required - they start to feel off. The mid-air movement is especially strange: inertia feels acceptable, but the ability to stop instantly in the air feels unnatural and confusing.

Overall, you can give it a try, but be prepared for a lot of confusion during the playthrough.

Bon petit puzzle-platformer. J'ai beaucoup aimé les différentes méchaniques de manipulation d'environnement du jeu.
Le feeling du personnage qu'on dirige est aussi très satisfaisant.
J'ai apprécié la réalisation du jeu, bien que ça ne plaira pas a tout le monde.
Dans l'ensemble, un assez bon jeu.

Gostei do jogo, divertido, dá pra passar bem o tempo.
Mas também vejo que pode ter melhorias. Alguns níveis parecem meio sem propósito e ficam muito monótonos. Eu gostei muito dos poderes, mas com o poder de troca poderiam ter mais momentos criativos para usar. Outro ponto que deixou a desejar é que quando a gente finalmente consegue o poder de mudar a gravidade, ela dura somente um nível. E não tem nenhum desafio que faça a gente usar os 3 poderes ao mesmo tempo e pensar em estratégias.
Joguei somente o modo single player.

Bionic Bay had some really interesting ideas and some solid 2D platforming. The pixel art, while simple, has some really beautiful scenes. There’s a lot the game gets right but ultimately I think it falls a bit short. Narratively it reminded me of something like Limbo or Inside but I don’t think there was quite enough environmental storytelling to keep me engaged. And that’s a shame because I could see glimmers of a captivating sci fi story. There are a few data tablets the reveal bits and pieces but they are few and far between. But the meat of the game is the tight platforming combined with unique abilities. This is all well done but I think there is a pacing issue. The game goes a bit too long and probably could have benefitted from trimming back on some of the new stuff introduced in the late game and maybe focus on the earlier ideas. Overall I came away intrigued and I will certainly follow the dev to see what they come up with next.

J’ai vraiment accroché ce jeu. L’univers, la DA, c’est parfait.
Et pourtant il est dur. Voir punitif. On est pas au niveau d’un dark soul non plus. Mais je ne compte plus le nombre de fois où je suis mort à répétition dans le jeu. Et pourtant je l’ai bouclé.
Masochisme ? Peut être mais en tout cas j’ai tenu bon.
Par contre j’ai rien compris à l’histoire 😇
Largement jouable sur le steam deck sans forcer. Un Bon 12h de jeu (parce que je suis mauvais)
Par contre je n’irais pas tâter le mode en ligne / speedrun. Je connais mes limites

I'm glad it's over (particularly the final level),
This isn't the easiest puzzle platformer. For the most part, the amount of precision and retries needed is moderate, and the autosave points feel like they had to revisit it and improve them.

Performance-wise there was only one level with fast obstacles that are near-impossible when the frame rate is too low, so I played that at the minimum resolution.

I would recommend this game to my past self, but right now I don't feel like playing it all over again.

Cortito y sin relleno, como a mi me gusta.
Se mantiene fresco introduciendo mecánicas nuevas cada poco tiempo, y su control es muy gustoso.
Me gusta especialmente su uso de las fisicas. La mayoría de los puzles dependen de ello y todo tiene peso en este juego, y se siente como tal.
Incluso las muertes (y se muere mucho aquí) se sienten satisfactorias a menudo, cuando te aplasta una roca, o sales volando por una explosión, o incluso cuando calculas mal y te estampas contra el suelo.
Muy recomendable en resumen.

最好玩过跳跳乐这一类型游戏再买，并不适合所有人。前几个小时强调游戏机制和场景互动，后几个小时强调跳跳乐和背板。多数场景的存档点很宽松，但有个别场景让人红温（集中于冰雪）。
剧情我是一个字都没看懂，中间有几关黑白场景很有意思。游戏流程不长，原价慎入，打折还好。

A physics based puzzle platformer that seems to be made by an amateur. It starts quite good nonetheless, and I get the feeling that it tries to be another "Inside" (the game), but fails to reach the same level. The ragdoll physics when you let the protagonist crash down an incredible height (that he survives, mind you) delivers some giggles, but doesn't feel serious. Hence my word choice 'amateur'. As the game continues it gets more difficult in an annoying way only. I lost interest not too far in.

Tiene diversas mecánicas, la más usada en el juego, es mover objetos por intercambio de lugares, básicamente lo tocas, vas hasta donde lo queres ubicar, y te extrapolas con el objeto. Después tiene de todo, gravedad, lásers, morir aplastado, lásers, mover objetos, ya dije lásers?? morir congelado, triturado, hervido, quemado, destrozado, les falto ahogarlo ahora que lo pienso.... y cuando pensé "que raro no usaron la gran gravitatoria de caminar por el techo”, introducen una de rotar directamente el escenario a tu alrededor.

８～９割プレイしたところで、クリアを断念。
雰囲気ゲーとしてもアクションゲーとしてもNFM。LIMBOやINSIDEみたいなものを期待するとがっかりする。

要所要所で頭を使う個所や技術を要求してくる場所があるものの、「ただ歩いているだけ」というポイントが多いのがネック。雰囲気ゲーであれば、その「ただ歩いているだけ」の場所に「ここはどういう場所なのだろう？」「ここで何があったのだろう？」と考えたくなるようなものがあるとよいのだが、あまりそういう感じでもなかった。ギミックに沿ったオブジェばかりが点在していた印象しかない。

ギミック（プレイヤーのアクション）としては、物の入れ替え・時間を遅くする・重力操作の３つだが、重力操作ができるのは終盤。それまではひたすら物の入れ替えと時間を遅くするアクションで先に進んでいく……のだが、ギミックの割にマップがだらだらと長いので飽きる。長ければいいってもんじゃない……
一番合わないなと思った部分は、終盤の重力装置。画面をくるくる回して先に進むことになるのだが、そもそも先の画面が見えないので、どこに行けばいいのかがわからない。マップがあるわけでもないので、とにかく試行回数を重ねて道を見つけるしかないのだが、その「マップを回して新たな道を見つける」というコンセプトに面白さを見いだせなかったので、苦痛でしかなかった。自分の頭が固いだけかもしれないが……

ゲームの雰囲気かアクション部分、どちらも好きになれなかったので途中リタイア。よって、人に進めることもできない……

Bionic Bay is a pretty good game. Aesthetically it resembles Limbo, only it's actually pretty fun. There's some interesting mechanics and movement tech, and the puzzles are satisfying yet briskly paced even if the game does run a little bit long for what it is. It takes some brainpower to figure things out which makes it rewarding when you do, even if a couple puzzles might get you stuck from time to time. Wish it had more music though, and the excessive quantity of checkpoints meant that sections of levels didn't stick as much as I would have liked given the game kinda save scums for you.

Pretty solid, but needed some extra oomph to reach "must play" territory.

首先，游戏美术风格和关卡创意性是无可挑剔的，这两点必须承认。游戏的质量本身并不错，但关卡流程设计太折磨人，有很多地方甚至就是纯难为你，难度较高。导致经常会出现卡关很久的情况，玩到一半就开始厌烦了；后面的关卡创意也并没有弥补这点不足，因为新的技能也意味着就会有新的折磨你的方式，手残党不建议入手。

Astonishing artstyle and very atmospheric OST, fluid and fun gameplay with pretty unique gimmicks that are incorporated here and there. The story is fairly interesting, although the ending can get confusing. I really enjoyed and had tons of fun with the game, specially when getting blown up or smashed against surfaces, the physics reminded me of some motocross web games I used to play around 15 years ago with my brother.

看宣传片的跳跃和玩起来手感确实很轻盈，很飘逸，但有的时候人物的行动会有些诡异，有点你说东，他往西的那个感觉（当然也有可能是我手柄坏了），整体的操作感都很不错，谜题和关卡设计也是水准在线，但是有的关卡就有点纯粹难为人，或者说有些看运气，同一个操作，你上一次成功了，但你下一次不一定能成功得了，挫败感很强，让人怀疑，是不是自己操作有问题（当然也可能是手柄坏了），就是有一种，你知道这个操作不对，但是具体是哪不对，你不知道，得自己去反复尝试，而这种反复尝试相当消磨耐性，换个角度来想，这游戏不失为一种良好的耐性锻炼方式。

至于剧情，中规中矩，基本上你看完所有科学家的留言，玩到结局，你就应该能知道这剧情讲了个啥了，总而言之，这游戏剧情就是个添头，别太在意，如果你想知道剧情，我可以一句话把剧情剧透完：[spoiler] 你从头到尾都没有离开过实验室 [/spoiler]

another indie gold. It's a difficult game, it doesn't underestimate you. Luckily, i like it hard, rough and painful. :^)

I've first known Juhana Myllys' work with Badland over 10 years ago and fell in love with the art right then and there, and i found out about Bionic Bay while searching for more of his work after buying the badland art book in a bundle.
Bionic Bay is hard and can be frustrating if you're not used to difficult platformers, and that's okay. I really enjoyed it even when i was a little frustrated and had to step away for a bit before coming back to try again. The art is what really sold me, admittedly.
I do thing the game could benefit from better optimization, but it's nothing serious. It could have just been my computer throwing tantrums before i upgraded it.

I loved this game at first. The physics, combined with the mechanics, punchy controls, and a bit of chaos, made the platforming incredibly satisfying. The atmosphere—carried by the excellent sound design—strongly reminded me of playing Half-Life for the first time, and it completely drew me in.

I genuinely enjoyed many of the early levels. The puzzles were satisfying, and even though there was some trial and error, it felt fair and rewarding. I was even telling my colleagues how awesome Bionic Bay was and how I didn’t understand the negative reviews.

But then it happened.

About two-thirds of the way through, the game takes a sharp turn. Suddenly, it’s one frustrating “puzzle” after another—and they all follow the same pattern. It usually starts with a brutally precise obstacle course filled with random elements. That alone is hard enough. But at the end, you’re almost always greeted with an obstacle that feels unclear or unintuitive.

Progress often depends on discovering some obscure “trick.” If you don’t figure it out immediately, you’re forced to replay the entire frustrating sequence just to experiment with another idea. Over and over again. It stops feeling challenging and starts feeling punishing.

By the time I fully realized this shift, I felt too close to the end to quit—or at least I thought I was, as it kept getting worse. The only reason I finished the game was out of stubbornness. I wanted the personal achievement… and the ability to write this review and move on.

TL;DR:
This game has a serious identity problem. It starts as a fantastic, atmospheric platformer with unique mechanics and satisfying gameplay. Then it turns into a frustrating, trial-and-error-heavy mess built around punishing design choices.

В целом игра понравилась, хотя и в какой-то момент задушнило преоделение нескольких головоломных сегментов с ооочень большим количеством попыток...
Физика, рисовка уровней и звуковое сопровождение и в целом атмосфера выше всяких похвал.
Во время прохождения ловил сильные вайбы Badland, Limbo и Inside, что тоже очень хорошо.

геймплей - почти никакой, быстро наскучил

бесит! не сразу понял что именно, но попробовал разобраться:

игра на первый взгляд крайне простая, ну бегай прыгай в нужные места и в общем-то все
поэтому думаешь: ща пробегусь куда надо и все путем будет. желанию носиться и скакать как сумасшедший потакает бодрая подвижность персонажа - очень быстрый и прыгучий, и этим хочется пользоваться. но нельзя. чтобы проходить локации нужно меееедленно, шаг за шагом каждый прыжок вымереть....ждать....смотреть....выбирать тайминги. и это противоречие подвижности и требуемой медлительности раздражает.
к этому добавялется, что смерти крайне случайны - дохера всего летает во все стороны по почти случайным траекториям и контролировать все это не представляется возможным, вот и дохнешь каждый раз от непонятно откуда прилетевшей хрени.
а ты вообще хотел весело мчаться и скакать аки козлик, а игра тебя раз за разом наказывает за твое такое желание рандомным подзатыльником. выбесило.

по сути геймплей похож на кнют андеграунд - тоже прыгай куда надо и все. но там было круто тем, что перед тем как действовать надо было решить небольшую головоломку: понять куда и как прыгать, какая последовательность. тут же все понятно за первую секунду, начинаешь сразу делать на скоростях и конечно же умираешь от какой-то неожиданности. к тому же там были большие просторы где можно было вдоволь поноситься и кайфануть от своей подвижности. плюс карта огромная, которую можно было интересно изучать. тут же просто иди вправо...иди вправо.. надо в кнют вернуться..

游戏角色的动作，除了基本的左右移动和跳跃，就只有翻滚和飞扑，而且这两个动作也整合到了一个键上，可以说相当的简洁，实际体验也有一点高速的爽快感，这个底子做的没问题。
这个游戏的美术算是核心，非常精细的像素画风，因为贴图分辨率很高，甚至都让人有些看不出来，再加上角色在整个屏幕里的占比很小，游戏里的实体有一种巨物感，整个场景给人一种十分壮观的感觉。但是这种美术风格也有缺点，例如很难分清画面里的哪些东西是陷阱，容易看不到关键的开关，难以区分背景和实体，可以说视觉效果对游玩也产生了障碍，不过我认为利大于弊。
此游戏关卡的设计思路：低容错，严格卡位，但是提供丰富存档点。说实话，就算没有前两点，这游戏也必须放置大量存档点，因为实在是太容易莫名其妙的死亡了，如果是一个非操作因素的死亡导致进度回溯到很久以前，有多难受就不必多说了。
再说点边角料，游戏里有很多地方，空间比较狭窄，角色会经常触发抓边的动作，这些部分玩起来很卡手，让人有些烦躁；中期的一些关卡新增了一个类似星球重力的机制，操作逻辑很差劲，这部分的体验也比较糟糕。
游戏的整体体验还不错，但是玩法的重复度略高了，机制引入的速度过慢，主动切换重力的能力只在最后一关出现，太浪费，还是说再用这个多做几关做不出来？应该不可能。

A great two-hour concept bloated into an exhausting eight-hour slog.

The opening is excellent. The movements and mechanics are fast and clever, the physics-driven puzzles have momentum, and the art direction sells the biomechanical decay. Then the game stalls. Levels stretch far beyond their depth, and meaningful ideas arrive too late, when fatigue has already set in.

Deaths are frequent and often feel punitive rather than instructive. The game leans heavily on sudden hazards, poor telegraphing, and “gotcha” traps instead of teaching mastery. That’s not challenging; that’s just bad game design.

It’s a shame, because Bionic Bay looks stunning and hints at a compelling sci-fi mystery that never materializes into narrative substance. I quit at level 15 out of 23—not out of challenge, but out of boredom.

Bionic Bay, c’est un puzzle-platformer sci-fi en 2D où tu incarnes un scientifique paumé dans un monde biomécanique.
Le jeu mise très fort sur sa DA pixel art + éclairages, et sur des mécaniques “physique”. Et clairement : c’est de la gueule, dès la première minute.

Tu avances dans des niveaux remplis de pièges, tu lis l’environnement, tu testes, tu meurs, tu recommences, et tu passes.
Le plaisir vient surtout des idées de gameplay (swap + physique + parfois gravité), qui créent des situations vraiment rafraîchissantes. Et quand le jeu enchaîne ses bonnes idées, t’es en mode “ok, c’est malin”.

I really liked this game! Obviously looks amazing. Starts out easy, plenty of checkpoints and builds up to a lot more challenging towards the end. I really liked the last couple of levels, interesting game mechanics. Took me about 9 hours to complete. I bought the game on sale and it's definitely worth it.

I really loved this game. It took me around 8 hours to beat all the levels, and I was never disappointed. I’ve played most of the major platformers since Super Mario Bros, and this one felt really refreshing. The last time I was this positively surprised by a platformer was when Celeste was released. Before that, it was Super Meat Boy.

What I love about Bionic Bay:

- Challenging, but never too difficult
- The new gameplay mechanics you discover as you progress are introduced at the right moment. It gives a great rhythm to the progression, and some of the “puzzles” are really brilliant
- There is fall damage, but it makes sense since most of the time you progress through the levels by going down
- The atmosphere of the game (graphics, sounds, and music) is excellent
- The abilities you unlock throughout the game are limited, but their combinations often give you multiple ways to solve puzzles.

Great game. If you like plateformers and you're curious about fresh mechanics, go for it

Science has once again dug too deep and we find ourselves teleported from the measurable familiarity of our lab to yet another Strange Alien World. Don’t forget your crowbar. Bionic Bay is a puzzle platformer clearly in conversation with the atmospheric likes of Inside and Somerville, but not content with simply ‘going right’, has you clambering and tumbling every which way through a labyrinthine liminal space of discarded alien tech. Unfortunately its gravity defying hijinks leave you very little to ground yourself.

Your unnamed scientist can build up a surprising amount of speed and propulsion as you leap across cavernous voids and you’re soon ricocheting through the megastructural House of Leaves like a human pinball with nothing but a pile of mystery goo to catch your fall. There is a fantastic momentum to bounding, tumbling and ragdolling through the world and a good dose of comedy in its wobbly physics and untimely deaths. But for a game about science the platforming doesn't feel particularly precise, more often relying on faith or the brute force of luck that you’ll land where you need to. Save points are rarely more than a screen away, though judging from the number of disturbingly familiar corpses scattering the facility I’m left to wonder if it’s the same me on each attempt.

It feels like a game built for speed-running and shaving off incremental segments of time. My understanding is its online multiplayer mode is focused on exactly that. As a single player experience however this unfortunately leaves little time to slow down and enjoy the environs, which are stunningly rendered, industrial detritus silhouetted by light and fog fit for a goth rave. I regularly brought my gymnastics to a halt to soak it in, but after a while it all starts to blur together, with little sense of theme to each area or cohesion tying them together. There’s few points of reference to mark your journey beyond a gradual shift of the mood lighting's hue. Furthermore the design often gets in the way of gameplay, interactable elements regularly cluttered together with those in the foreground and background. The various types of laser encountered are so subtly differentiated by colour that I had to rely on trial and error to see if I’d be vaporized or harmlessy bounced towards my objective.

Navigating those lasers, both friendly and frosty is one of the key ways the game provides puzzles. You’re served up a handful of sciency gadgets over your journey, from the ability to switch yourself with an item to slowing down time. But there were very few obstacles that gave me any real pause, and even then mostly because I couldn’t differentiate the objective switch from the rest of the environment. Most are reduced to the manual labor of moving boxes out of the way with the humbling reminder that the excitement of Science is only possible with the execution of repetitive tasks and tests

Bionic Bay has strong bones, but little connective tissue. For a game about the joy of momentum it has little sense of pacing. Its roller coaster of momentary thrills blur together, fading from memory like a clone in a laser-beam (the burny kind). Like looking at your own hand through a microscope there are moments of wonder but take a step back and it’s a rather familiar body.

I'll say recommend but really I am middle of the road with it. If you like puzzle solving and platforming combined then this game will be some solid fun for you. If your idea of a fun platformer is good movement that really lets you hit a flow state and maintain momentum as you go through the level then this game is not for you. It will constantly slow you down with little transition segments as you traverse the level, think moving screens in Celeste but you have to do a little bit of platforming through a tight space with no danger, it's just a transition.

The powers are interesting somewhat but don't really grip me either. My only truely infuriating gripe was that for me personally sometimes the beautiful background made it confusing on what was foreground you can run on or background you have to ignore. The game is still good at guiding you through a level but it was a good double digits of times I jumped to my death and went ah they wanted me to stop and look for this platform. So basically be ready to stop and look for your next path often cuz if you're impatient and like to move too fast you'll dive off the edge like I did constantly, at least respawns weren't too bad usually.

Seguí el desarrollo de este juego en Twitter por meses, hasta teniendo la chance de interactuar con el artista detrás del maravilloso pixel art, y comentar respecto a ciertas decisiones sobre la paleta de colores a elegir. Sumado a eso, también jugué previamente BADLAND 2, otro juego de Juhana que comparte un estilo similar a Bionic Bay: complejos industriales abandonados que amagan a parecer humanos, pero contienen suficientes elementos extraños para denotar que no son de nuestro planeta. La mezcla de elementos orgánicos y mecánicos que Juhana crea para sus entornos es sencillamente impresionante. Cada nuevo escenario me quitaba el aliento, y me tomaba unos segundos para apreciarlo antes de avanzar el nivel. Así es como descubrí que el juego hace algo muy interesante, que es progresar su paleta de colores desde tonos cálidos hacía tonos fríos a medida que se avanza por los diferentes niveles. Esta progresión a su vez está atada a los cambios en mecánicas y dificultad del juego, lo cual genera una harmonía ludonarrativa que es hermosa de experimentar.
El gameplay es muy entretenido, con buenas mecánicas de movilidad que permiten enfrentar los puzzles cómodamente, y dan lugar a poder experimentar con las diferentes mecánicas que el juego introduce de a poco. De principio a fin disfrute el descubrir por mi cuenta como superar cada nuevo obstáculo, y aquí también es donde brilla el diseño de nivel de Juhana: salvo por un puzzle muy puntual, el entorno hace un trabajo perfecto de emular un espacio orgánico, y a su vez, niveles que te dejan claro hacia donde avanzar.
Es un juego muy sólido, quizá no revolucionario para el genero, pero que utiliza sus fortalezas muy bien, y que vale la pena completar. Posiblemente actualice esta reseña si llego a intentar platinarlo, pero luego de mi primer playthrough, me encuentro muy satisfecho de haberlo experimentado.

I played through the whole game and i have to say, i am unfortunately mildly disappointed.

I wont spoil or anything, but the difficulty is a bit unnecessary, the camera movements could definitely be worked on. (looking through the community page, it looked like they added a buncha QoL ONLY in advanced settings, and dont mention that anywhere)

The lore is immensely sporadic and a tad bit confusing with the ending being pretty disappointing. [spoiler]I don't actually know if this is spoilers or not, but the way the ended things was IMMENSELY open-discussion. It genuinely could be like, 8 or 9 different things.[spoiler]

The level design is AMAZING at first, 10/10. However, if you don't get like, 10 deaths or less per entire section (loading screen thingy), it'll quickly start becoming tedious. the powers are spread out evenly, kind of? [spoiler]They make you switch between characters having X power, then having Y power for a bit which isn't that bad imo, it's just a lil tedious.[spoiler]

The graphics and potential for structures are amazing, but music is kinda sporadic and non-noticeable.

I would still say you should try it out, and if you don't like it, then that's your opinion and you can refund it before 2 hours

I first played this a long time ago in a Next Fest. The Demo was *mega* long and I ended up stopping because I really liked it and thought I was playing a big chunk of the game. I ended up putting it on my wishlist and carrying on. When it released in November I bought it, and I've been playing it on and off over Christmas and finally finished it today.

What a wild ride of a game. At first, the movement is floaty and strange, but something about it reminded me of an old 360-era game that was one of my favourite platformers ever. N+. I don't usually like to rate games relative to other games, but when a game reminds you of N+, Portal, Super Meatboy *and* Limbo, it's worth at least noting.

Bionic Bay is a puzzle platformer with heavy physics based elements that starts out with simply mastering movement, and progresses on to altering gravity itself. It's difficulty can be frustrating at times, but it's never unclear what you're supposed to be doing. It's just a matter of executing your jumps and rolls right. It has that souls-like element of being doomed to repeat your fate if you don't learn from your deaths. It also has a pretty cool online mod that isn't typical for this kind of game. This gives the game a lot of replayability if you're the competitive platformer type, and I couldn't help but think that the specific gameplay and movement of this game would lend itself really well to speedrunning.

If I had to be super nit-picky, sometimes the background elements blur with the foreground and it makes it difficult to know which way you can go at some points. It has no collectible elements or secrets that I spotted, and as much as I loved the end, I'm not really sure what it was about. The narrative could be a bit better communicated to the player. Having said that, the game's perceived negatives for me are nothing more than slight negatives in an overall fantastic quality game for it's price point.

A great puzzle platformer that's a pretty cool first finish of 2026!

I don't think I hated a game more than this game in the last 5 years.
I do suck at games, so maybe it's me. But since the developers were trying to get an 'best game I suck at' award, I guess they were intentionally shooting for a difficult game.
Something that I find a baffling design decision, they made a platformer game with interesting movement mechanics and a cool look, but instead it is completely defined by its absurd trial and error difficulty.
It's also a very long game, so they did not have to pad it for length or something. The length is also a weird thing, because I clicked through a video walkthrough after I gave up, and it seems they don't add any new mechanics after the first two hours.

美术和场景很惊艳，但越玩越坐牢。
越往后越没啥意思，至少我玩了十几关就是这个感觉，一直没有新能力没啥正反馈。
9月发售的丝之歌都没这个牢，人家boss战，遭遇战和跳跳乐至少一大半有实质奖励。
游戏中解密性部分的占比一直减小，能力并不能帮助你创意性地过关，而且没有捷径，过关策略基本只有一条，这点和动物井根本比不了。
与此同时跳跳乐部分却越来越多，越往后往后越吃反应能力，由于人物性能不变，有的地方可能要卡挺长时间。
最惊喜的地方可能就是换人物的那关，可以减缓时间和大力拳很有意思，可惜玩到现在也就只有一关。

I really loved the platforming in this.

For a few of the sections, I had to retry quite a few times (especially the rotation levels at the end), but I found myself getting into a flow and just zooming through some of it.

I felt bizarrely calm through all of it, and never had a rage quit. Just quiet determination to get to the next section.

[h3] Story [/h3]

There were about 6-10 (can't remember) story moments where some text is shown on screen next to a hologram of the person the text relates to.

It was way too small to read, and with Steam+LB1 zoom on Steam Deck, the typeface was still way to gnarly to comfortably read.

The bits I could read didn't mean anything to me, and the text dumps were too few and far between to be cohesive (I play a bit every few days, so tend to forget things).

So, if you're looking for Inside/LIMBO -esque environmental storytelling, you won't find it here.

[h3] Audio [/h3]

I can't remember the music. There was one upbeat track towards the end which makes it memorable by virtue of being more upbeat than the others. SFX felt a bit unbalanced/unmastered (some loud booms), but was otherwise great.

[h3] Art style [/h3]

The art style conveys that the world is large and rough around the edges, and cares nothing about you.

The world is bleak, and there's mostly enough contrast so you know where the platforms and routes are, but once or twice I didn't quite know which way to go.

[h3] Aesthetic [/h3]

Bionic Bay doesn't have that Inside/LIMBO feel to it. There's no real instilled fear, but more of a continuous question about where you are and WTF you're supposed to be finding out about this world.

Instead, here lazers and guided missiles might seek you out, which feels less personal than a security guard standing right next to you to verify if you're just one of the mind-controlled ones.

I think the fear aspect could have been elevated a bit by introducing a living thing that chases you. E.g. a mechanical spider which chases you at the end exit runs of every level, and then showing scenes where similar spiders are spinning webs around other humans like you, etc

[h3] Conclusion [/h3]

BB is more of a precision platformer (not as tight as Celeste, but perhaps slightly more floaty), and is more for the speedrunners than those looking for a story. That said, I really loved the game and had great fun completing it over various short evenings.

Bionic Bay: Swap Trails is definitely a hidden gem among recent indie pixel puzzle games. It creates new tricks with a single "swap" mechanic, making you toggle between frustration from being stuck and joy from sudden enlightenment—addictive enough to keep you playing for hours. Without complicated plot buildup, it drags you into a mysterious bio-mechanical world purely with exquisite visuals and creative gameplay.
The core "swap" ability grows on you the more you play. Simply put, you can switch places with objects and shadows in the scene. Combined with gravity reversal and time dilation skills, it opens up endless puzzle-solving ideas. For example, swap with a box to trigger mechanisms, reverse gravity to bypass lasers, or slow down time to connect swaps and dodge deadly traps—every success brings a great sense of accomplishment.

The hand-crafted pixel art is another highlight. Rusty mechanical gears, glowing holographic projections—every detail exudes texture. Paired with an electronic industrial soundtrack, the immersion is top-tier. The difficulty progresses steadily: practice skills in the early stages, and combine multiple abilities to calculate time differences later. While getting stuck is annoying, the well-placed checkpoints make retries stress-free.

Its only flaws are the weak plot (left entirely to players' imagination) and some precise jumps that are unfriendly to clumsy players. Jueguito plataformero bastante ameno con puzzles diferentes. El poder jugar con la gravedad o con diferentes elementos de tu entorno lo hacen bastante divertido.

Además, el ir como loco por algunas zonas y ver cómo el bicho se dobla de diferentes formas o las posibles formas en las que puedes morir, hace que en algunos momentos te puedas echar unas risas.

在重力球上行动的逻辑简直是一坨屎，想跑一圈得wasd轮着按一圈，更屎的是要按的键是根据角色在球上的相对位置判断的，最要命的是有很多球本身就是在运动的，这一秒按d是向右跑，下一秒就变下落了，在不同球跳跃后直接蹲着不动被激光嗞，要么冲向深渊、跑反方向，吐了；

各种各样的炸弹也怪的很，冒红光的、纯黑的、长角的、方的、齿轮的、融入背景板的，总有你非得踩踩才知道这玩意会爆的炸弹，炸弹就固定个外形冒个红光得了，起码得有个明显特征吧？做一堆千奇百怪的，路遇一个没见过的爆了，挫败感强。甚至同一个重力球上能有冒红光和不冒两种炸弹？？？

冰冻大章，随机弹弹球的搞人小设计太多。那几个嗞冰机器人+转轮关，开关一点关联的样子都没有，提示也不提示，时停拉开关还没效果，拉了开关关卡破坏还是随机的，就试错去吧，等着roll出一个爆干净的一次，冰冻大章的解谜设计基本都这样，给随机完了。下落死线也是捉摸不透的，有的地方飞很远都不死，有的地方掉一点就死。

单人通关了，捏猫猫的，全程谜语人一直在渲染一直大的要来了！大的要来了！结果通关最后给了个：站在故障机器人中指上看狗头的结尾。。。环境叙事也基本上没有，闹麻了。我说买了既浪费了时间又浪费了钱，心情还更差了，玩玩demo得了。

Contrairement à ce qu'on pourrait croire au premier regard, Bionic Bay n'est pas un nouveau limbo-like narrative platformer. Il a bien un DA très remarquable, un lore obscur et beaucoup de narration environnementale, mais ils s'agit bien d'un platformer physiqué mixé avec un puzzle platformer.
La physique un peu cassé propose un moveset de base très agréable (le dash jump là), et provoque des moments parfois rigolo, parfois frustrant. Le problème à mon avis, c'est que ce moveset assez cool est finalement assez peu mis à contribution. A la place, les passages compliqués devront plutôt être "resolus" à la manière d'un puzzle platformer, en utilisant les différentes mécaniques environnementale que le jeu nous donnera au fur et à mesure. Et les mécaniques sont plutôt cools, bien trouvées, et bien utilisées, mais j'aurais préféré avoir plus de passage de pur parkour à base de dash et et de sauts.
L'autre soucis pour moi a été la difficulté des derniers niveaux, qui peuvent être très frustrants notamment parce que la physique cassée et un peu imprécise, et aussi parce que certains passage sont très dépendant de la RNG.
Bionic Bay reste un jeu très beau, en général agréable à jouer, mais plutôt réservé à ceux qui aiment un bon défi de platforming.

Повадились тут все сравнивать дизайн игры с играми от Playdead. Очень во многом похожи, не спорю, но почему никто не говорит, что на деле дизайн игры - это буквально Badland от Frogmind (ныне HypeHype)! За то немногое время, что успел наиграть, впечатления от Bionic Bay чисто положительные. Художественный дизайн наиприятнейший, управление отзывчивое, а механики интересные. Взял игру на распродаже, но и за полный ценник игра определённо достойна покупки.

This game is a whole nothing burger, from the outside it may have a nice aesthetic and atmosphere, but in reality the game has nothing interesting to offer.

The gameplay is basically a glorified rage game you would play on a browser in early 2010s. Just a bunch of bombs, lasers, rockets, any trap you can think of in this kind of games. There are a lot of unfair traps and also being physics based makes everything more random and unpredictable by nature. And not to mention how loud the explosions are, which forced me to reduce the volume of the sounds to 10% because I nearly had a heart attacks a few times, and it doesn't help that the game has almost no music at all so it's silent most of the time until BOOM.

The ocassional lore bits are pointless and the game is constantly teasing you making you think something cool is about to happen, but nope just continue beating more and more levels and nothing happens until you reach the very end, [spoiler]with a very dumb reveal in my opinion, which is basically that you got shrinked. There is something about aliens and the big egg at the beginning, but the game doesn't elaborate further in those things, they are just briefly mentioned a few times and that's it.[/spoiler]

Lo digo sin problemas: Bionic Bay ha sido una de las grandísimas sorpresas y mejores juegos que he probado este 2025. La parte artística es que es sublime, pero es que la parte jugable es una puñetera locura de plataformas y física. Y "locura" es la palabra. En una aventura de plataformas y física, que puede recordar al Prince of Persia de Mechner, Another World de Chahi y el Flashback de Cuisset, metamos anfetamitas, esteroides, mucha agilidad y un juego desmedido con las físicas. En ese precioso y tremendamente perturbador mundo biomecánico empezaremos saltando y rebotando como si fuéramos de goma, para que nuestros poderes y manipulaciones físicas vayan creciendo. Objetos y materia, gravedad, el tiempo... Preparaos para unos últimos niveles DELIRANTES, que nos enloquecerán y cabrearán, con un final que... Bionic Bay se queda corto para las palabras.

引导弱，初见容易迷路
道中跑酷设计千篇一律，重力关卡有点少，根本没玩爽
没头没尾的剧情和一些小关bgm如果去掉，反而更有沉浸感

以上三点算是堪堪及格，食之无味弃之可惜

Golly, I know I am not the most skilled gamer but this one stretched me to the gills for 27 hours. Chapters 19-23 probably took 80% of that time to get through them and but for walkthroughs I would still be stuck in there somewhere. That said, I really enjoyed the innovative mechanics of these puzzles, using the physics of gravity, time distortion, dimensions and teleporting to mix it up. Not really sure what a dog's snout at the end meant but the story was a sidelight for me. I was just trying to survive these "Twilight Zone-like" environments....though I died a thousand deaths in every level after #19.

Гордон Фримен в главной роли в Limbo или Inside. Звучит как знатная коллаборация, коей и является Bionic Bay.

Научный эксперимент идет не по плану, пыщ-пыщ, и вот в живых остался один (один ли?) ученый-физик, который должен скакать сквозь мегаструктуры с враждебными ловушками и паззлами. В игре несколько механик, как то замедление времени, телепортация и переменная гравитация. Плюс разгон, перекаты и контроль в воздухе. В итоге, когда наш Фримен понимает, как пройти дальше, игра уже заходит на территорию Super Meat Boy: главгероя что-то перемалывает, или он замораживается, или его взрывает ракетой... При этом чекпоинты идут через каждые три метра, благодаря чему цена ошибки крайне мала (это уже мне напоминает подход моей любимой Hotline Miami).
