[b]Beyond a Steel Sky is a modernized sequel to Beneath a Steel Sky, I found it thoroughly enjoyable and knocked out my first run the weekend after I bought it.[/b]

[h3]Gameplay[/h3]
I don't usually play adventure games, so I don't think I'm going to be the best person to judge the gameplay. The hinting system is reasonable, and will nudge you in the right direction while still limiting itself to the most obvious information first. There was only one instance where I gave up and looked up a walkthrough ([spoiler]When extracting poetry to inspire the robot.[/spoiler]) I was really excited when I saw the hacking puzzles, but they ended up being more about moving variables around than any sort of complex behavior chains, which wasn't what I had hoped for. I had also run into occasional bits of collision jank, where I could get stuck in a spot or not be able to walk over something that seemed logical to me.

[h3]Story and Narrative[/h3]
Set 10 years after the original, Beyond a Steel Sky give you enough exposition to enjoy the story, while also providing enough references and continuity to really amplify the experience for those who have previously or just finished Beneath a Steel Sky. The story was touching and immersive, although the commentary and theming around AI seemed fairly standard. There was nothing that took me out of the game. [spoiler]Though I am slightly disappointed Savior Joey wasn't called Ken.[/spoiler]

[h3]Graphics[/h3]
Beyond a Steel Sky is stylized very cartoonishly, while still being very detailed. I have not played Borderlands but I've seen other people comparing the two games. The set and level design is some of the most iconic and beautiful that I've played recently.

However, character animations and NPCs were frequently stiffly animated or jittery, and would sometimes fall into the uncanny valley. It's closer to something I'd expect from the mid-2000s, not something I'd expect from a 2020 release.

[h3]Overall[/h3]
Beyond a Steel Sky is an occasionally flawed but at its' core thoroughly good game. If you have the patience, I'd recommend playing Beneath a Steel Sky first -- it's free and has plenty of walkthroughs to guide you through the more opaque design of 90s adventure games -- and if it piques your interest then Beyond a Steel Sky is absolutely worth getting, plus, you'll go in with a deeper understanding of the universe.

Like this game very much. Has a distinctive art style, a well curated game mechanism, wonderful voice acting, and a overall compelling, coherent story.

With the help of a build-in hints system the game guides you through the whole process, removing the drudgery of having to search for online walkthroughs, which would have mostly been the case with other point to click games. There were challenging puzzles in the game but most of them are appropriately designed and wouldn't disrupt the progression of the story. The cutscenes and soundtracks were also amazing and cinematic.

The personalities are alive and memorable, Joey, the servant robots, the kids and Orana. As I'm writing this review, my memories of their voices and appearances come rushing back. There is a lot of effort put into the character building . Loads of dialogue options to explore, even for those seemingly insignificant npcs. And they have memories! You get to unlock new dialogue options after you return to a previous scene.

The story itself is set in a soft-authoritarian society—not really dystopian, since there's still a genuine realm of individual freedom and normal human interactions. When you look around and talk with the NPCs, you realize they are still normal people with full humanity. Essentially, it's a technocracy built on soft managerialism, safetyism, and extreme risk aversion. It's about a failed attempt to address deep-rooted issues of meaning and happiness through technological means. It reminds me of something said by Thoreau that our inventions are but improved means to an unimproved end. That said, I do think the theme could have been explored in greater depth rather than being settled with drama and superficial debates.

I really, really wanted to like this game.

First of all: The artstyle and graphics are actually quite alright (if you like the visuals of games like borderlands, you will like this one), and some of the hacking mechanics are pretty fun. But I'm afraid that's it.

Everything about the characters, the plot and the overall idea is a complete mess. The way Foster is forced into the story (and Union City) feels incredibly lazy and forced, all the characters are incredibly one-dimensional, like walking cliches.

Most quests / puzzles are utterly mundane and boring, everything feels rushed and not really thought out. Characters transition suddenly and abruptly from "random NPC / supporting actor" to being friends or the nemesis of the protagonist without them ever having interacted in a way that would warrant this.

It's so sad I have to say this, but... stay away from this.

У этой игры какие-то приколы с сохранкой. Спецом перед диалогом засейвился, впоследствии из-за 1 ошибки решил загрузить ручное сохранение, а меня перенесло назад где-то на полчаса-час, притом что не было никаких багов-пролагов, а за это время много контента пришлось просматривать, в первый раз встречаю такое. Помимо этого, криворукий разраб естественно до конца не смог нормально отшлифовать тех состояния 4 анрила, на котором и была сделана игра, в результате чего имеются просадки аж на 30 фпс, мдаааа, всё как обычно.

BaSS является сиквелом игры 1994 года, в которую я не играл, так что за встречающиеся отсылки не шарю, хотя в прохождении намекается на то, что надо бы это делать. Ну и наконец, судя по диалогам и проявленным интонациям в них, здесь отдает некоей левизной и токсичным ЭКСАЙТИНГОМ, ну вы знаете 2к20, новое поколение, все дела, а значит точно мимо меня.

Tough review to write, I know it's Charles Cecile from revolution software behind it, the legend that gave us broken sword, but the story in "Beyond a steel sky" is not enough captivating for me. It's a point and klick adventure game but "Beyond a steel sky" felt more like an interactive Watchdog dystopia. Too much problemsolving using the MINOS-hacker tool and very little of everything else.

Robert & Joey the droid, the splendid cutscenes aswell as the rather emotional story without ever shining kept this game atleast somewhat meaningful to finish.

If it's on sale give it ago i guess.

I liked the story, visuals, characters, and worldbuilding, but I felt the puzzles were incredibly unintuitive, and there was no auto sprint option, and the developers commentary cuts out when you get too far away means the game would probably be better experienced by watching a playthrough of it

Lo recomiendo a aquellos que en su día jugaron a la primera parte y les gustó. Esta es una segunda parte hecha con cariño, bonitos gráficos, escenarios cuidados, conservando sin embargo el espíritu cómico/dramático de la aventura click&point original.
No lo recomiendo sin embargo a aquellos que no conocen la primera parte o no les gustan las aventuras de este tipo dado que su historia se apoya en el argumento original. No creo que puedan apreciarla ni entenderla. A estos les recomiendo que busquen la primera y la jueguen en Scumm, ¡es una aventura estupenda!

Beyond a Steel Sky прямой сиквел классики 1994-го – Beneath a Steel Sky. Полностью трехмерная игра (сириусли?), точно как третья часть Broken Sword. Как оригинал – стильная и красочная. Буквально оживший комикс. И механики данная игра заимствует из прошлых наработок современности Revolution, совершенствуя их логику и удобство. Я проходил игру на геймпаде, и ощущения мои таковы. Что с клава-мышью – не имею представления. Так нажатием одной кнопки, Роберт Фостер – главный герой серии – может как и прежде что-либо прокомментировать, взаимодействовать с объектом напрямую или использовать тот в диалоге с персонажем. А если все варианты проговорены то всегда будет кнопка для завершения беседы*. Кроме этого Фостер обзавёлся новой механикой, которая мне показалась – спорной. Безусловно, "сканер" это новшество призванное разнообразить классическую формулу Point & Click. Но в какой-то момент игра словно превращается в "симулятор одного цикла". Мне так показалось. Задачки на логику клёвые, и в концепте Киберпанка по части реализации вполне уместны. Возможно эта новая фишка так сильно выделяется на фоне привычных правил адвенчур, поэтому и кажется что её супер-много. С другой стороны, под конец игры я забыл про существование этой главной фишки, затупил "в бесконечности".

Поначалу я размечтался и нафантазировал мол: "– Нифига себе! Это же какой огромной будет игра!". Но на деле она оказалась куда более камерной. Ввиду этой самой камерности и описаные ощущения от "сканера" не могут быть упрёком. Всё-таки амбиции, возможности и бюджеты – вещи взаимосвязанные. Beyond берёт историей; персонажами; ситуациями. Получая огромное удовольствие от процесса игры та словно мчит со скоростью локомотива, подкидывая новые задачки и двигая сюжет повествует о том, что же будет дальше. А история в сиквеле, подстать жанру, во всей красе. Steel Sky корнями всё ещё – квест, и это прекрасно! Финальная сцена точечно бьёт прямо в сердце заложенными мыслями\смыслами. Пусть те и очевидны – возможно.

Возможно, как самостоятельное произведение эта игра интересна и понятна, но я согласен с мнением других счастливчиков, побывавших за стенами Union-City: для понимания полной картины стоит вернуться в этот же город, образца 94-го года. Что я и сделал: Фостер там конечно ещё совсем [strike]ретро[/strike] молодой – пикселявый весь. На контрасте многие вещи в Beyond приобрели иной смысл. К тому же оригинальная игра бесплатна в Steam. Эх, ей бы ремастер, да с ачивками... Да и как бы я смотрел на Beyond a Steel Sky не пройдя первую игру? Вес и значимость некоторых "слов" я бы не прочувствовал так точно. Оригинал как ни крути – придаёт глубины ощущениям от приключения. И тем интереснее с иной перспективы познавать новую – изменившуюся утопию, находя в ней отголоски той, старой и мрачной антиутопии.

Да, в планах выбивания всех достижений у меня произошло недопонимание с ачивкой: "Двуличность". Дело в том, что в игре предусмотрено на выбор три профиля для новой игры, (Настройки\Игра\Профиль игрока) но Достижение засчитывает условия прохождения в рамках Одного профиля. Не зная того, я заново прошёл игру выполнив иные условия в профиле №2 и получил – фигу. Разрешил данный "парадокс" путём копирования и переименования сохранения. Например: из "Player2_ManualSave9" в "Player1_ManualSave(вставить любую цифру кроме = 10 в моём случае, т.к. это номер нужной мне сохранки из первого прохождения)". По итогу в первом профиле стало два разных "сохранения в ручную" с цифрами "9" и "10" соответственно. После просмотра нужной кат-сцены в каждом из сохранений, игра таки выдала достижение. Главное соблюсти требования для разблокировки и выполнять в рамках одного про.. Надеюсь, кому нужна эта инфа, тот мою мысль понял :|

И раз уж о странностях, то почему в диалогах можно промотать строчки но нельзя пропустить кат-сцены? Не, они правда стильно поставлены; за ними интересно наблюдать, но почему их нельзя пропустить? Понимаю, что во время кат-сцен происходят подгрузки, но серьезно? В 20-ом году выпуска, эта игра требует много времени на это дело? С другой стороны кат-сцены явно на движке игры, быть может поэтому.. В остальном мне всё понравилось.

Cool mais n'ayant pas connu les opus précédents (s'il y en a plusieurs), je ne peux pas dire que c'est le meilleur jeu de l'année.

C'est une chouette intrigue avec un gameplay très simpliste et une histoire en ligne droite. Si vous êtes d'aventure à aller tout explorer avant d'aller à la "quête", bah faudra refaire tout ce que vous avez vu avant pour passer à l'étape suivante sinon l'option de dialogue ne se débloque pas.

C'est une bonne histoire mais ce n'est pas non plus transcendant.

If you have played the first game, you'll notice that the game mentions a lot of things about the events from that occasion. Even though it does some recap on what happened, you'll miss a lot if you didn't play it first. I found that the story has a small change from what I remembered, though, or maybe there were some off-screen events that happened in between the games. In any case, you can see the resemblance in the plot to the first game. It starts following the same concept, although it ends up going in a different direction.

The game sure has a lot of dialogues. I found them to be too much, especially considering that they mostly explain what you need to do. You need to choose the same option 2 or more times just to exhaust all of the dialogues. It doesn't feel rewarding and boring.

That being said, the main story kept me engaged. They flesh out the worldbuilding so well in the first game, and that makes the sequel much more interesting. There are many new characters introduced who matter to the story—it's easy to get attached to them.

The story itself touches on an interesting issue. There are cases where ideology clashes, and I think that both sides have their own good and bad. I know that the evil side tries to do things too extreme, but it's easy to know why they went in that direction if you consider their background. The conflict feels real and makes the characters more relatable.

Despite the modern look, [i]Beyond a Steel Sky[/i] is still a point-and-click adventure game at its core. Change the point-and-click element to an explorative 3D world with some cutscenes in between, and you'll get what this game has to offer. After each cutscene ends, you'll end up in a location with several people to talk to. You need to figure out what to do to progress the game, and most of the time, the objective can be too vague to figure out. Luckily, the people in the area will give you a hint on what to do if you talk to them.

The game still uses a comic book-style representation in the prologue. However, unlike the first game, it tries to improve it by a ton. There are some parallax layers added to make the scene feel more alive than a slideshow, and instead of removing the dialogue bubbles and narration boxes, it still kept them in the animation. The game even goes so far as to keep these narration boxes in the subtitle whenever the main character is voicing out his thinking process.

As an adventure game, I like that the game shows all interactable objects within the area. You can approach them to interact with it, although sometimes, you need to approach them from a certain angle for it to work. There was one puzzle that required you to do this quickly, and it's easy to fail. Luckily, it doesn't take long to redo the puzzles.

There are also some instant deaths in the game, but the game is designed not to waste your time. It will auto-save before that occasion, and even if it doesn't, you'll respawn right before that event happens. And yes, the game has an auto-save that triggers after every few minutes.

[b]Puzzles[/b]
Despite the improvement from the first game, there are some cases where the puzzles can be too vague. I'm glad that puzzles are mostly limited to one location now, but the puzzles in this game mostly rely on the "hacking" mechanic, where you need to check the logic of all IOT devices in the area and change their logic. However, since you can only change a small part of it and the devices tend to be mobile, there are times when you need to wait for a long time to observe what to do or simply wait until a certain device comes to your location. That's not counting the fact that you need to know what you are doing to solve them first.

I liked the virtual puzzles, though. Just like the first game, there are cases where you are going to a virtual space inside your brain, where you manifest as an avatar. The area is really beautiful inside, and the puzzles are more self-contained. Moreover, the puzzle where you use some programs to break the system is simpler and feels more fun. I wish there are more of these puzzles.

I hate how some puzzles require you to do a certain action before the steps can be registered, though. There was one puzzle where you needed to get information about a person. However, in order to register that information, you need to obtain other information first, even though you can find it before that other information is obtained. Moreover, the information was basic enough and didn't require other information to make sense of. This forces me to interact with everything far too many times since the game won't let me proceed without that information being registered to the game.

Some puzzles can be solved in two different ways. The game will show different cutscenes depending on how you finish it, altering the story a bit. However, the cutscenes that were shown during these events tend not to flow smoothly; it's as if the game expects you to finish it in a certain way. Nevertheless, it only impacts a minor part of the story and won't affect the ending.

[b]Length and Difficulty[/b]
I finished the game in 10.1h. There is one achievement where you need to finish a puzzle with different choices, forcing you to replay the game. You can reload from an earlier save, but you still need to play a great chunk of the game since the choice happens in the beginning, with the achievement granted near the end. That being said, the game can be finished quite quickly when you know everything and don't talk to everyone. Interacting with people will give you a lot of information about the city and the characters, though, so you'll miss a lot if you don't do it. Difficulty-wise, it's easier to finish compared to the first game, although you will still need to think to solve the puzzles, especially since you need to take moving devices into account most of the time, which can be easily overlooked.

[i]Beyond a Steel Sky[/i] is a nice improvement from the first game. It tries to fix the issues from the first game and add modern touches to it. The detailed worldbuilding in the first game also makes this game more fleshed out and enjoyable. There are still some minor annoyances that the game has, but it's still good enough. If you enjoy the first game or simply just want to play a story-heavy game, buy it on a sale.

Wir sind auf einer Suche nach einem "Stalker" - einem Kind das anscheinend von einem "Fahrzeug" mit Beinen entführt wurde?
Was ist hier eigentlich los?

Dann läuft man durch eine Wüste, die an Texas oder Australien erinnert, und sieht eine junge Frau, die mit einem Gerät irgendwas an einer Leiche herumfummelt, die Frau rennt davon.
Was ist hier eigentlich los?

Am Anfang muss man den Weg in die Stadt finden, dabei begegnet man unter anderem einem Kind im Superheldenkostüm, das ein Nudelsieb auf dem Kopf trägt, man schlägt sich mit Formalien wie der Beschaffung einer Bürger-ID herum und verscheucht aggressive Kakadus.

Wenn man es in die Stadt geschafft hat, wirkt diese viel zu freundlich, zu perfekt.
Man erfährt, dass dieser Singapur mäßige Stadtstaat eine Art Social Credit System betreibt und sieht Statuen eines gewissen Joey, welcher als "Retter" gehuldigt wird.
Doch irgendetwas stimmt nicht.
Steckt hinter dem vermeintlichen Utopia in Wahrheit eine Tyrannei?

Ich mag den Humor, der unter anderem aus dem fehlenden sozialen Gespür der Androiden entsteht.
Ich finde die Androiden hier sind besser geschrieben als die Androiden aus Detroit: Become Human, da letztere zu menschlich wirken.
Wer mal KI-Chatsbots wie ChatGPT oder Grok benutzt hat, dem werden viele Dialoge in diesem Spiel bekannt vorkommen.

Man kann in diesem Spiel Geräte "hacken", wobei das Hacking daraus besteht, dass man in einer Art vereinfachtem UML-Aktivitätsdiagramm , welches die Betriebslogik eines Gerätes abbildet, bestimmte Elemente verschiebt.

Die NPCs haben manchmal leichte Schwierigkeiten, die richtigen Laufwege zu finden, vor allem wenn etwas im Weg steht.
Manchmal ist es (zumindest mit meinem Controller) schwierig, die Hotspots anzusteuern, obwohl ich direkt davor stehe.
Charaktere laufen oft weg, während ich versuche, im Interaktionsmenü eine Option auszuwählen.
Wäre besser gewesen wenn diese wie in anderen Adventures stehen bleiben, während man mit ihnen interagiert.

反乌托邦的3D冒险惊悚类游戏，前作是1994年发售的[i]Beneath a Steel Sky[/i]（有Steam版，免费的），年代太久远了没动力玩，但有关前作的剧情基本都在开场的漫画和游戏流程中的对话补齐了一些信息，所以没玩过前作不影响本作的剧情理解

本作整体来说平平无奇吧——游戏是纯解谜游戏，整个流程下来严格来说仅有两场硬时限环节（限时生死局，时间一到就Game Over），且没有任何战斗或QTE相关的内容。玩家主要依靠前期获得的黑客工具骇入Union City的各种设施进行解谜，是本作的核心玩法，不过大多数谜题就只是将系统模块调换来调换去而已，感觉有点浪费这么好的玩法了

演出效果不尽人意，基本都是站桩对话，部分角色配音有点生硬棒读，对于世界观的展开也感觉大多数也是走马观花。比如男主在公寓遇见的女孩Raquel，她那一开始犹如人格切换似的刻画跟后面最后一次遇到她时举止正常，引导宾客去往VIP区的形象，中间只用了一个……Aspiration SPA来解释？尽管玩到后面我们能得知Aspiration SPA指的是[spoiler]用来洗脑Union City居民以及从GAP抓来的孩子，将他们苦痛记忆替换成开心记忆的装置[/spoiler]，但她为何会分裂出不同的人格，后面为何又变得如此正常，游戏没有讲明。而这个Aspiration SPA光从剧情的刻画上[spoiler]除了强行脱离装置是致命性的，游戏也没有说明这些装置究竟副作用出在哪里，男主从头到尾在寻找的Milo离开装置后生龙活虎，除了对虚假记忆不适以外毫无其他不良反应[/spoiler]；对于最终BOSS的行为动机就更是不知所云了，他因为[spoiler]男主10年跟他说的“要让所有人都幸福”的指令[/spoiler]就抓走了GAP的小孩子……？我天，反正我是没理清楚为何出于这个动机仅仅是去单独抓小孩而非所有人

最后对于这个乌托邦城市的讨论也是翻来覆去老生常谈的内容：什么信用系统不但没有实现人人平等，反倒成了攀比的资本，磨灭他人成就感的工具；极具个性化的推送内容保证让每个人都幸福，却杀死了他们的自由意志；高墙挡住了城外的未知威胁，不是让城内居民更安全，而是深化了他们对城外的恐惧；机器人负责人类的一切生活起居事务，与其说让人类享受荣华富贵，反倒让他们好吃懒做，balabala

最后就是自己带着孩子回归故里，留下一地鸡毛，一座行政系统被颠覆，亟需重建的城市

额额，行吧，这个故事实在是缺乏一些代入感

Dieser späte Nachfolger von "Beneath a Steel Sky" (1994) hat mich überzeugt. Während der Vorgänger in der Story noch in die Zeit der 2D-Pixel-Adventures (ohne CD) fiel, kommt dieser "Nachfolger" mit kompletter 3D-Engine (Unity). Und die Umsetzung ist wesentlich gelungener als bei Broken Sword 3 oder 4: es gibt nicht nur moderne Grafik, sondern auch die Puzzles verwenden kreativ die neuen Möglichkeiten. Zudem ist es auch kein teilweise uninspirierter Wiederaufguss wie Broken Sword 5.
Bei den Figuren treten viele alte Bekannte wieder auf. Aber auch für Neueinsteiger, die das Cyberpunk-Setting mögen, kann ich den Titel empfehlen. Im Sale kann man da nicht viel falsch machen.

The game starts off strong: good music, a cool world, and the hacking mechanic is actually fun.
I've really enjoyed the first few hours, but as I played more, the cracks started to show.

I won't even go on the technical issues, like choices not being properly taken into account (e.g. you chose one badge, or one poem and it's another one being "used"). Or the few times your character acts like he has just learned an information that was already stated twice.

No, that I can live with.

However, characters go from cold and distant to suddenly caring about things they had no interest in before.
Strangers suddenly act like long time friends.
It feels forced and doesn’t make sense.
The story starts to feel rushed, and you can tell the writing is all over the place.

I can’t emphasize enough how much I grew to despise the last few hours of the game.

Honestly, I'm feeling disappointed and a bit angry.
Forget about this game, just play the original one.

I finished Beyond a Steel Sky entirely on Steam Deck, and it was one of the most memorable gaming experiences I’ve had in years.

A Great Game. Would definitely recommend.
The comic art style can take some getting used to, but after a while it complements the quaint style of the whole game. while it is short, it feels like it was infinitely longer, and there is never a bad moment in the whole cinematic experience!
Note that I haven't played any of the other games, just assumed it's in medias res, and you pick up the pieces.

Dass klassische Adventures nicht tot sind, beweist eindrucksvoll Beyond a Steel Sky.

Es war eine so schöne Idylle, als Foster mit seinen Freunden zum Angeln aufbrach, aber jäh wurde die Idylle unterbrochen und Milo, ein kleiner Junge, entführt. Ehrensache für Foster, dass er sich aufmacht, den entführten Milo zu retten. Sein Weg führt ihn durch das Ödland zurück nach Union City. Irgendwie spüren wir in der Magengegend, dass hier auch nicht alles so ist, wie es scheint.

Die gezeichnete Grafik dieses Adventures ist wirklich klasse und die sehr gute deutsche Sprachausgabe (auch alle Texte sind in Deutsch) trägt zur dicken Atmosphäre bei. Gesteuert wird hier wahlweise per Maus und Tastatur oder Gamepad, beide Varianten gehen hervorragend. Im Kern ist es aber tatsächlich ein ganz klassisches Point & Click-Adventure im besten Sinne. Wir laufen also durch die Gegend, reden mit Personen, lösen Rätsel (die allesamt logisch sind) und versuchen hinter das Geheimnis zu kommen. Für Adventure-Freunde, die nicht davor zurückschrecken, viel zu reden, ist das eine wahre Perle.

I have no sentimental attachment to Beneath a Steel Sky, since I only played it this week for the first time. But as a new player, I have to say I enjoyed the experience and would generally recommend it.

It’s a fun, modern point-and-click adventure. While I found it fairly easy, I actually prefer that over puzzles that make no sense and force you to interact with every object on the screen until you randomly stumble on the “solution” that no reasonable person would call intuitive.

The story is decent. There are funny moments and a few dull ones, but overall it feels very kid-friendly, aside from a handful of comments that younger kids probably won’t understand and teenagers will likely find amusing. That isn’t a bad thing, though. Part of me believes the ending makes total sense and that someone genuinely planned it out when making the original.

It’s also short and doesn’t overstay its welcome. I left the game AFK a few times, so my recorded playtime isn’t accurate.

I am rather conflicted about this one. Let me start by saying that all in all, it is an enjoyable game. But some things rubbed me off about it.

Positive:
-It looks good for the most part. The cel shading works great. I say for the most part because some of the face meshes are just...weird.
-It does scratch that BASS itch.
-I did not encounter any bugs whatsoever while playing it.
-There's a lot of easter eggs/references to a lot of computer, pop and nerd culture stuff from the 90s in it.
-Its humor works far more often than not.

Neutral:
-The puzzles are very logical BUT, in my opinion, too simplistic. Some may like this but personally I would appreciate it some more nuance into them.
-It's not a point and click adventure game, it's an attempted modernization of the genre. While it works, the game would probably would have been better if it had went along with its origins.

Negative:
-The story... is unfortunately 2000% predictable, right down to the twists.
-It is rather short. No TOO short, but judging from the point and click adventure genre that this comes from, I was expecting about double it's size.
-Some aspects of the story are allover the place and some others demonstrate a bit of, cognitive dissonance from the writers, in lack of a better way to put it. What the story tries to pass as philosophy, manages to contradict itself.
-This one is my personal gripe, I do not like one bit how they treated Joey in the story. I won't spoil anything but it seems to me that the writers really tried to ride a hype train.
-Music is entirely forgettable.
-Movement and targeting system, especially when it comes to moving targets such as characters and droids, is a bit clunky.

Bottom line is, it is a fun game so I am still recommending it. But it could be much better if it had tried to work on the old recipe instead of modernizing and if it had tried to avoid really overdone cliches with the story and questionably moralistic armchair philosophy.

If you've ever played Beneath a Steel Sky, or love science fiction, this is the game for you. It has humor, heroism, and heart. It does have it's flaws(awkward camera angles, difficulty in selecting certain objects) but these can be overlooked for the story itself, which is the absolute most important thing in a game.

Это неплохая игра с крайне многообещающим началом и все более разочаровывающая к ее концу.

Только сев за нее, я был приятно впечатлен тем, как нетипично она преподносит себя и стремится игроку дать взаимодействие со своим окружением. Хорошие, грамотные диалоги; впечатляющий мир вокруг; многообещающая завязка; нестандартные и в меру сложные головоломки. Первые часы дали мне надежду на то, что вот, умеют еще делать игры в стиле старой школы - с чувством, с толком, с расстановкой!

И в целом все так и шло, но чем дальше, тем больше я понимал, что у игры два бича - постановка и пазлы, ставшие далее просто невыносимыми. Первая - картонная, абсурдная и нелепая. Вторые - настолько неочевидные, что я вспомнил про давно забытое слово "солюшн", за которым примерно во второй половине игры и полез, чтобы не тратить впустую время в очередной попытке понять, чего же от меня хочет игра.

Не было бы сих темных пятен, было бы прекрасно. А так - выше среднего.

Но хочется в первую очередь похвалить команду разработчиков за старания. Они действительно сделали крепкую, нетипичную для них игру в полностью трехмерном окружении. В первую очередь она радует своим сценарием и придуманным постапокалиптическим миром. Это у них вышло здорово. И это вполне достойное продолжение первой части: контрастирующее с ней, а не пытающее ей вторить и потакать. За это им и спасибо!

What a dystopian story. Humanity is controlled by state authorities in order to make everyone happy. Welcome to the present. The 3D graphics do a good job of capturing the style of Marvel comics. It fits very well.
For me, it's a real masterpiece and highly recommended for all adventure game lovers.
The overall difficulty level is easy.

Somehow I bought this game years ago I only played it for 14 minutes. But last weekend I started it randomly, and couldn't stop playing.

The science fiction world and the concepts introduced are very solid - way better designed than most sci-fi content we get these days. The art, the environmental design, the sounds and especially the voice acting are incredibly well executed! I felt really engaged with the game, and the entire setting was believable, the characters and dialogues were rich and intelligent.

It's rare these days to hear actually funny and entertaining dialogue and voice acting, so I appreciated a lot!

On the negative side, I think the ending felt really rushed, and the neat, logical and intelligent nature of the game fell apart at the last "boss fight", since those dialogues arguably made little rational sense. On a high level, they were revolving around meaningful and deep subjects, but the execution was pretty weak, and the puzzles also felt sloppy.

Also, given how great the environmental design and atmosphere of the game was, it kind of hurts to realize how short it was, and how few environments I was able to visit. When I was playing I hoped that perhaps I'll manage to increase my QDos level and visit the lower part of the city as well, or that with time I'll gain access to a lot more areas in general. Overall it makes you feel that the game introduced a lot of great sci-fi concepts and foundations, but then it didn't realize these with actual game mechanics.

Of course, it is understandable that a small studio didn't have the budget for a much grander game, and this game already offers very high production values. I would be definitely interested in sequels or even good quality DLCs; it's sad that the audience is not broader, since it would make it more viable to realize further productions.

Overall I would definitely recommend it! Especially for people who like to play memorable games and like to complete them (are the so many incompletable/perpetual games these days that try to rob you of all of your free time).

Beyond a Steel Sky é em um universo cyberpunk totalmente original e cheio de personalidade. É um jogo diferente da maioria, com um charme próprio e com certeza especial. Não é o melhor jogo de todos, mas tem algo único que faz valer a experiência.

A história é interessante do início ao fim, com um bom ritmo e personagens cativantes. Alguns puzzles podem ser um pouco chatos, eu admito, mas o jogo é muito mais do que isso, é sobre o mundo que ele cria e as ideias que ele apresenta.

Union City é uma cidade fascinante e totalmente diferente. Eles conseguiram construir um universo moral e social invertido, onde os de “baixo” vivem na riqueza e felicidade, e os de “cima” estão cercados de miséria e decadência. É um conceito genial, e a cidade praticamente se torna um personagem, contando sua própria história através de cada detalhe visual e comportamento dos habitantes.

Além disso, o jogo levanta várias questões éticas e morais, tudo dentro de uma atmosfera leve e com aquele humor sarcástico característico da Revolution Software.

Sim, a história tem seus clichês, mas o universo é tão original e cheio de ideias criativas que vale muito a pena dar uma chance, especialmente se estiver em promoção.

No fim das contas, é um jogo com muito potencial, e mesmo que nem tudo seja perfeito, ele brilha pelo mundo, pela narrativa e pelo coração que carrega.

Honestly, it's close to on par with the original game.

The original I feel had a better story and atmosphere, but the puzzle logic in this game feels a whole let better. Puzzles were not that hard to solve once you find all the random hacking points that lead to the solution. No moon logic puzzles, everything makes great sense once you work it out.

It's not very long as most adventure games are not, but it really felt like it could have been longer, like there could have been a whole extra act or two in the game to really flesh it out. That's easily the biggest issue I have with it, and why I suggest getting it on sale.

오픈월드같이 보여도 답지는 정해져있음(디스코엘리시움 생각했다면 ㄴㄴ)
스토리도 뭐 그럭저럭 볼만함
중간에 막히는 부분있을 수 있고 버그 있긴한데 친절한 저장슬롯을 잘 이용한다면 무리없을수도
해킹 시스템이라는게 어차피 제한이 있기때문에 일단 이걸 바꿔볼까 하면 들어맞는 경우가 있음
배경+해킹시스템부분+완성된 스토리는 좋았기때문에 추천(linc space안의 퍼즐은 쉽고 새롭지않음)

If you're a fan of adventure games this is great. Loved the art style, humor, writing, and voice acting.

The hint system helps keep things moving when you get stuck for too long and might otherwise feel frustrated.

And it plays very well on the steam deck right out of the box.

Looking forward to replaying it with the commentary turned on.

It's worth the full price, but at the current 80% off it's a steal.

Well it seems cool, I was sucked into the intro but I realized pretty quickly its not for me. For one thing I like point and click to mean mouse only. If this wasnt 3d the camera wouldnt make me vaguely ill, plus I just like to play with coffee in my other hand! Why not make use of middle click for looking around and use mouse for walking? Sigh. Its not just this game of course Ive returned many that made me ill. I would recommend the game for those that dont care about such things, the first one is free here on steam too.

This a a create adventure game. Almost all puzzles are logical and though not being too easy they are certainly not to hard. I used the built-in hint system 3 times (one time could have been avoided if I payed more attention how a certain tool should be used, the second was a hard to find hot-spot and the third time something that seemed illogical to me (a part of the fireworks puzzle). The city is beautiful and very detailed. The game is a good length too. Looking at steam I played it for 24 hours. Note because the puzzles are logical you don't spent hours on them (which is of course a good thing). This is an adventure done right. Highly recommended.

Beautiful game. Soundtrack is okay with some inspired moments.

But the game is just so boring! It starts out fine, but it just falls flat. Any nostalgia is purely reliant on the fact that you probably don’t remember much of the first game, because there are a few glaring inconsistencies.

But the scenery really is stunning and I almost would recommend it based solely on that.

Its a great game. Mostly story and walking. Couple of puzzles here and there but not heavy on those.
The story is great and so is the world. Decent graphics too. There is an issue where during cutscenes people run into you and the people you are talking to. Voice acting is great too but here and there you can hear a different mic was used for the same character. It sounds different but its not bad. Overall a great game

평균작 하는 중편 SF 소설 보는 느낌. 요즘 문법의 게임이 아니라 정말 전통 포인트 클리커 어드벤처 게임 하는 느낌을 받았으나 세계관의 설정이 설득력이 조금 떨어지는 느낌이 들며 종막에 가서는 용두사미 느낌이 들 수 도있다. 또한 세세한 설정은 1편의 기반을 두고 있기 때문에 살짝 찾아봐야 하는 점도 있다. 그래도 추천하는건 오랜만에 뇌빼고 쭉쭉 진행하는 게임을 한 것 같아서 좋았다.

마지막 가서 든 생각은 "코딩을 할때 섬세하게 짜자"

Довольно неожиданное продолжение "Beneath the Steel Sky" 1994-го с переходом в 3d и попыткой осовременить геймплей. На первый взгляд, звучит как набор стоп-сигналов (особенно после попытки Revolution в WASD в третьем "Broken Sword") , но на деле вышло всё довольно годно.

Сюжетный само-оммаж (очередное похищение, очередная диктатура в городе) разбавлен продуманным лором, хорошей юмористической составляющей и умелой вставкой отсылок, где и старичку приятно, и новичка, не игравшего в оригинал, введут в курс дела. Роберт Фостер заметно повзрослел как персонаж (действие игры происходит спустя 10 лет после событий первой части), Джоуи всё такой же любитель поострить на тему собственной важности и нелепых человеков. В конечно счёте, здесь отличная сатирическая составляющая про (анти)утопию массового потребления с заходом на территорию "The Outer Worlds", причём местами Revolution Software берёт планку повыше.

Геймплейно имеем point'n'click квест с переводом движения на WASD-колёса и отсутствием необходимости сочетать вещи в инвентаре - что нашёл, то и применил. Из нововведений добавилась система для взлома логики местной техники. Меняем порядок алгоритма действий внутри одного / нескольких оборудований - и вуаля, вот уже перед героем открываются все двери, голографический прожектор выдаёт информацию, стащенную с местного билборда, а автомат с газировкой вызывает охрану вместо выдачи заветного напитка. К сожалению, алгоритмы по большей части достаточно просты, и идеи явно не хватило задач для раскрытия. С другой стороны, хотя "BaSS" и не отличается сложностью, он не превращает геймплей в спинномозговую активность и всё ещё выдерживает линию между квестом и просто интерактивной составляющей (привет Pendulo Studios).

Визуально - довольно приятное 3d: не новенько, но многие знакомые вещи и локации адаптированы с любовью к оригиналу (особенно в этом плане порадовало виртуальное пространство), неплохая анимация, достойно выполненные катсцены на движке (комикс-слайдшоу в начале - опять же дань оригиналу). Музыка хорошо дополняет происходящее, а новый набор актёров не пасует перед озвучиванием оригинала. По тех. части есть явный недостаток с движением болванчиков - уж очень часто любят они сталкиваться с героем, что особенно заметно в ходе диалогов. В остальном всё довольно гладко.

Revolution Software провела хорошую работу над сиквелом, который подойдёт как любителям первой части, так и просто квестовым мимокрокодилам. Конечно, без определённых упрощений не обошлось, но Чарльз Сесил с командой в очередной раз доказывают, что порох в пороховницах у них ещё остался. К покупке рекомендую.
