I would not recommend this game. Spoilers ahead, but my main gripe is with the ending, which strangely seems to romanticize suicide. I also find it a little sad that the story seems to frame the fact that the main narrator didn't want children in a weirdly negative light.

O tema da memória é particularmente importante para mim e para este jogo também. Quem leu ao menos a descrição do jogo antes de comprá-lo sabe de antemão que a protagonista tem demência. O que o jogo proporciona são reminiscências reconstruídas a partir dos objetos na casa. Talvez a trilha sonora seja o que há de melhor. É o que gera tantas boas avaliações por aqui, a meu ver. O enredo, infelizmente, deixa a desejar. O jogo tem o mérito de criar algum tipo de compaixão no jogador, mas fica muito longe de apresentar alguma reviravolta ou acontecimento inesperado. A memória desbloqueada no fim pretende ser impactante, mas soa clichê. Nada me surpreendeu aqui e talvez nem seja justo esperar isso de um jogo de uma hora. Se estiver na promoção e você gostar de walking simulators curtos, pode valer a pena.
Para uma história que envolve memória (mas não demência), recomendo o livro Um Amor de Swann, de Marcel Proust. É parte de um livro maior chamado Em Busca do Tempo Perdido (À la recherche du temps perdu). Certamente tomará mais de uma hora para lê-lo, mas o enredo - que relaciona amor, ciúme e memória - vale o tempo.
Nossa trajetória é o que define quem somos. A memória de si é o que nos faz entender nosso lugar dentro do mundo. Somos frutos de escolhas próprias e alheias realizadas ao longo da vida. Este tema é um canhão e merece mais do que Before I Forget.

Before I Forget est très court, mais clairement marquant. C’est le genre de jeu que tu lances un peu par curiosité et que tu termines avec un petit nœud dans la gorge. Pas parce qu’il en fait trop mais justement parce qu’il reste simple et honnête du début à la fin.

L’histoire est vraiment très belle. Elle parle de mémoire, de perte, de choses que tout le monde peut comprendre, sans jamais être compliquée ou lourde. C’est raconté avec beaucoup de douceur et ça touche vite. En quelques minutes, le jeu arrive à faire passer des émotions que certains jeux n’arrivent même pas à transmettre en dix heures.

Visuellement, c’est simple, presque minimaliste mais ça colle parfaitement au propos. Les changements de couleurs, les objets qui apparaissent ou disparaissent, tout sert l’histoire. Rien n’est là pour faire joli, tout a un sens.

Le 100% est aussi super agréable à faire. Il est simple, sans prise de tête et surtout logique. Il suffit de prendre le temps d’observer, d’interagir un peu partout, et de vraiment s’impliquer. C’est un 100% que tu fais par envie, pas par obligation.

Before I Forget ne va pas plaire à tout le monde, surtout si tu cherches du gameplay ou de l’action. Mais si tu es ouvert à une expérience courte, humaine, et sincère, c’est clairement un jeu à faire.

C’est rapide, c’est touchant, et ça reste en tête bien plus longtemps que prévu.

Well, that was quite the experience.

The feeling of initial confusion as we wander an unfamiliar location eventually intersects the narrative, and we -- the player -- want nothing more than to help our character remember what we've learned.

This is powerful and polished (aside from a few brief grammatical slips). Walking Sim adventurers should definitely give this a shot.

The perspective of this game captures the confusion, curiosity, loss and overall complex range of emotions. Bringing to life what it may feel like to have this type of diagnosis. Going into the game I was not aware of the main character's plot. That made it even more heart wrenching. The simple point and click navigation makes it easy for all skill levels to enjoy.
The music adds to each moment relived with the emotions it evokes. The simplistic art style makes it calming. As things come into the water color showing the context and clarity in each moment. The unraveling of memories through music, photos, letters and various items as though a portal into time was really well done. This game evoked the complex emotions, putting the player in the shoes of someone in this situation.

不推荐游玩，故事老套，乏善可陈，纯粹的步行模拟器。通过点击物品回忆过去，点亮房屋的过程挺不错的，但是除此外整个故事展开没有带给人惊喜的设计。因为同为剧情导向的游戏，我想到了另一部游戏《历历在目（before your eyes）》，相比之下两者游玩时长相近，但故事性和情节展开好很多，推荐试试。

Ce jeu est vraiment génial, même parmi mes préférés.
Il a une manière de toucher droit au cœur avec des séquences inoubliables et un scénario extrêmement cohérent et bien ficelé, couplé avec une mise en scène pour le moins grandiose... dommage que ce jeu ait si peu de succès. On suit ici une femme atteinte de démence qui va devoir faire face à la terrible réalité en se remémorant toute sa vie pendant la durée de vie d'environ une heure de jeu en prenant son temps, avec des flashbacks parfaitement orchestrés et un rythme maîtrisé pour que l'on ne s'ennuie jamais. La bande originale est de bonne qualité même si un peu trop absente, mais ça contribue à l'ambiance oppressante de solitude qu'instaure peu à peu le jeu pour nous mener vers le grand final. La direction artistique est juste sublime, mi-cartoon mi-réalisme, ce qui rend le tout extrêmement agréable à voir.
Je conseille le jeu très fortement, vous ne serez probablement pas déçu(e).

Es un juego muy bien contado sobre la demencia y autoreconocimiento a partir de una historia que te puede hacer sentir vulnerable. La forma de narrar es perfecta en mi opinión donde se usa de forma magnifica la banda sonora, el colorido que aparece cuando interactuas con una carta/postal/objeto como una forma de recordar, y el uso de las pausas con elementos como sillas y usar la tetera como forma de pasar el tiempo.

Recomiendo jugarlo por segunda vez con el audio de los desarrolladores activado. Es una forma de aprender Game Design para aquellos que quieren entender por qué se decidió usar una narrativa sobre otra opción. Es una pena que no esté subtitulado para aquellos que no sean anglófonos para aquellos que necesiten el texto mientras lo escuchan.

If you are reading reviews to decide whether or not this is for you, it is critical to note this is designed to be played in one sitting, and takes about an hour... if you're not one who likes to explore, that is. I move slowly through most games, especially at first, so I was closer to 90 or 100 minutes. I'd gotten 6/10 achievements in that time. I refuse to check to see which I missed, because the structure of the game is such that, these would be spoilers I don't want, since I do intend to return to get the rest. I have ideas which choices may have given different achievements.

With the nuts and bolts in place, on to the actual review...

I have no idea how the creators of this game managed to create, so far above my expectations, an accurate depiction of neuro-degenerative disease involving memory loss. I did read all the credits to the end, so I know they did not do it alone, but that they were able to create this as they did is stunning.

I am notorious for trying to get games on the cheap, but the decision was made to pay full price, as I felt if it was done well, the creators would deserve the full retail cost, and I had funds to purchase it at full cost without "feeling" it. I now intend to gift it at full price to some folk who would have interest, because it is that good.

I am bothered I never got any notification about this game release through discovery queues, etc. in the gaming world, and also bothered I never heard of this game through other news channels not associated with game, but associated with Alzheimer's and neurological health. I stumbled upon it, nearly 5 years after its release, when I was scanning a list of Humble games, when the title caught my eye. More people who are curious about neuro-degenerative disease, whether they are "gamers" or not, need to know about this lovely wee game. It ought not have been 5 years after the fact I learn of this game. And there are only 157 reviews, which is travesty. I mean it.

I cried, rather a lot, during this game, and that is never something I want to be associated with my gaming. I did realise it may happen when I bought this, if only the game was done well.

The way they used lens focus, and colour, was powerful with regards to accurately representing aging and memory loss. Yes, I, myself, am in the earlier stages of a neuro-degenerative disease. The vast majority of health care professionals I encounter seem to be much less aware of how life changes, than the game developers.

Getting lost, without knowing it, and waking up in a different place was well-executed.

If you, or someone you know, is dealing with these conditions, and you want to know more how things can seem, or if you just need some affirmation of things starting to happen to you, this game does a remarkable and outstanding job communicating the condition.

Generally, I go for metroidvania, 4X, space games; despite my first "omg, games are becoming incredible!" moment being 1990, with The Secret of Monkey Island, before SoMI and especially *after* MI2, I quickly learnt p'n'c games are not for me, so I'm not judging this game from the perspective of a p'n'c'er. I judge it from the perspective of a person losing function, which is not fun, but a fact of life I must deal with, and this game was helpful in coming to terms with it, if only a wee bit, still an important bit.

I walk away from the game this first time, believing folk, who are also suffering neurological loss, *had* to have contributed to this. Treating/caring for folk, regardless how compassionate a carer or provider may be, one would not be able to so precisely capture certain nuances. The use of colour, again, was inspired, as was the overall animation and method of execution of that colour. Especially the colour causes me to believe that the devs had folk with neuro-degenerative conditions contributing to their knowledge base. Well done, devs!

This is defo no Warhammer, no Dead Cells, no Galactic Civilisations or Crusader Kings, absolutely not Dead Souls or Elden Ring, but this is one of the very best games I have ever played in my life. I've been highly annoyed by many "simulators" in my time, and as technology improves, the ability to create rubbish simulators outstrips, imo, the ability to create quality, realistic simulators. This game deals with a sensitive subject, for which I have lived experience, and I loved it.

PS Almost forgot (as I would): A game such as this often might cause me motion sickness.
Heartbreaking and highly unexpected disappointments include Teardown and Spirit of the North, which, for me, are completely unplayable. There are several others, but I'm especially sad about those two.
Happily, I had zero issues with motion sickness in this game. I don't know if that makes it safe for all, but I was able to play "Before I Forget," comfortably, from beginning to end, without taking any special measures. Prolly also why I almost forgot to mention it, it being not a problem at all.

Jogar Before I Forget foi como entrar num cantinho silencioso da mente de alguém querido. Acompanhamos a Sunita, uma mulher com demência precoce, tentando se lembrar de quem é e das coisas importantes da sua vida. É tudo muito delicado — desde os objetos espalhados pela casa até as memórias que vão surgindo aos poucos, como se estivéssemos folheando um álbum de fotos antigo.

A cada passo, a história dela e do Dylan vai se revelando de forma suave, cheia de amor e saudade. O jogo é curtinho, mas toca o coração de um jeito muito especial. Me fez parar, respirar fundo e pensar com carinho sobre como a memória é preciosa.

É uma experiência simples, mas cheia de sentimento — quase como um abraço em forma de jogo. 💙

"Before I Forget" is a story-rich, first-person exploration game from 3-Fold Game, it is moving, and atmospheric, it examines the emotional impact of dementia. You play as Sunita - a woman living with early onset dementia. As you wander from room to room, you discover mysterious objects, each holding a fleeting, fragmented memory. You examine faded postcards, scribbled notes, photographs, and more to uncover Sunita’s past, piece together her life-story, and understand her present.
The Artstyle was amazing and i liked the music and sounds. The Voice was nice aswell.
You also can get achievements for specific actions or passing story pints.
It took me around 1.8 hours to finish the game. I paid 1,64€ for the game on Sale.
It was fun so try it out!

Exploramos sus días lentamente, a veces sin darnos cuenta de que algunos ya van pasando, mientras descubrimos su vida, quién es y qué la inspira. Y no sólo nosotros, los jugadores, descubrimos cada una de esas piezas, Sunita también lo hace. It's not a bad game. It's an above average, but predictable story based walking simulator. The story made sense and I was able to pick up on the ending easily. Docking points for the random sensitivity and movement speed changes that were unnecessary and annoying. There's about an hour of playtime and I wouldn't say it's worth the $8 full price, but it's not awful if you get it on sale. It's also extremely easy to 100% if that's what you're looking for.

A beautiful walking simulator, depicting a thoughtful story of a woman who is struggling with a form of dementia, and trying to put the pieces back in recalling her history. The art style is beautiful, the voice acting is amazing, and it reads as an interesting and affirming message for those suffering with the condition, and for their loved ones. It is a relatively short game, with a few different achievements, though I don't know if I would likely play it again to collect them all. That says more for its subject matter than for its execution of that subject, which it does well.

Honestly, I've never made a review for a game before. But I just felt I had to for this game. I was literally bawling like a baby. Learning more about Suni and how much sense her responses make as someone player who isn't familiar with her world (which is a stand-in for "having forgotten where things are")- it was brilliant. I also feel ~1 hour was about the perfect play time. Thank you for this experience.

It's not mechanically complex. It's not narratively that surprising or deep. It is, though, a short but well formed little story about love and loss of various kinds, the kind of story that has not always translated well to games until the medium has 'grown up' over the last decade or so. It does speak to universal realities that are hard to fully understand when young and no easier to accept when not and makes for a genuinely emotional experience through having to confront these as the character. Not everyone - certainly not the steretypical 'gamer' - will warm to this, but as an example to prove that games can be as mature and poignant as other media forms, this is a gine place to start.

This game is wonderful. This is the first time in so long i have actually been emerced into a game. The story may be a bit wonky. But that is what helps the game's flow. I normally try to skip cutscenes. But i could'nt i just sat there and listend. Even when the credits started i just sat and listed to the piano playing. Im so mesmoriesed by this game.

3-Fold Games is a new British studio composed of two women, and Before I Forget is their first game. It’s a first person narrative exploration game. Yet it’s much more than just a game. It’s a social commentary on love, loss and exploring how to deal with getting old. Before I Forget will take you through an emotional journey of your own.

You play as Sunita, a woman suffering from early onset dementia. Through your exploration you start to rediscover fragments of your past. You wake up and start exploring your apartment which feels unfamiliar to you. You’re trying to remember, but the memories are elusive. You can’t even remember why you can’t remember. The truth is there just at the edge of your mind, but you just can’t quite get to it. You’re getting anxious. What if you forgot everything that shaped you. Are you still yourself? You’re scared of losing your identity. If only your husband Dylan were here. You have no idea where he is or when he’s coming back, without him you are frightened. If you could only find him, everything would get back to normal.

Before I forget is an experience in and of itself. The gameplay is all about what you discover while rummaging through your apartment. It leaves it up to the player to untangle Sunita’s life through investigation, and that’s what makes the game so charming. This game truly makes you feel like you are an old woman trying to reclaim her life. In the very first scene, everything is initially out of focus until you finally find your glasses. As soon as you put these on, the whole room reveals itself. The creators have succeeded at setting an anxiety ridden atmosphere, and making you feel the exact emotions our protagonist would go through. After the opening scene, you walk around your home scrutinizing everything in a new light. You find pictures and notes scattered around. Everything seem new to you, but as you pick up the different pictures your memories come flooding back. These memories appear in the form of cut scenes that bring you back in time. The notes though… you don’t remember seeing these ever before. Where do they come from, and why are they laying all around your apartment? That is only one of the mystery you will have to solve.

Before I forget is visually beautiful. What I loved about the artwork is that the developers have used colors to represent Sunita’s emotional state. It starts with a nice pastel color scheme, and changes as you play. As an example, in a scene where Sunita is very upset, the artwork switches to angry reds, and dark grays. It helps to make it an all-around immersive experience. The soundtrack is also used in concert with the artwork to make the player feel what Sunita is going through: the confusion, anxiety, fear, and then finally understanding.

Before I Forget is an extremely short game. If you really take your time to examine every piece of information and listen to every cut scene in its entirety, then it should take you about an hour to complete. Yet despite its short duration, it’s a deep and captivating experience. The developers have managed to create a game that actually drops you into the reality of an aging woman seeing all her memories slip away. It’s a touching and at time stressful experience. You’ll go through a whole array of emotions. Before I Forget is a compelling first entry from the young team at 3-Fold Games. I recommend it to anyone who likes thought provoking games that leave you emotionally changed.

44 minutes - that's all I needed to experience this touching short story, and it worked like a charm. Explaining it would be an insult to those wanting to experience the game themselves.

Beautiful game, and a tearjerker. Symbolisms and visual metaphors shape the puzzling situation a person with Alzheimer's gets through, and they become deeper the closer you are to the end.

I think this game is not for everyone, for it can affect those having a loved one with Alzheimer's (or not), but unless you're overly sensitive, I do recommend it.

Before I Forget is a really touching story game about a woman with dementia and her lovestory that she rediscovers.
You walk through a desaurated flat and can interact with certain items that return the color to nearby surroundings. I can't possibly say whether Sunita's dementia is portrayed authentically or not as I have never spent a lot of time with a person with this illness. But I really felt her confusion, pain and anger at herself and the world.

I really liked the experience of this game but i don't think it's a must play. Especially when the game costs 6 bucks and only has about an hour of playtime.

This was something else. Don't expect this game to be fun or anything. Actually it is pretty sad, and kind of a love story too.

I would have to applaud the devs for the artistic style and music.

On the subject of Alzheimer/Dementia, I am not to sure about it all.But then again I am no doctor in that area so....

I would recommend, please keep in mind that it is a short game.

Befor I forgot ist ein schönes Spiel. Es bringt einen wirklich zum Nachdenken, was könnte alles passieren, wenn man älter wird. Viele ältere Menschen leiden an Demenz und das ist eine schwere Aufgabe für die Angehörigen. Der selbst Demenzkranke merkt es am Anfang nicht, aber wenn es zur Erkenntnis kommt, fühlt sich derjenige ganz schön schlecht, einsam und hilflos. Solche Menschen brauchen definitiv Hilfe von Freunden und Familie. Aber dieser kurze Einblick war trotzdem schön und traurig dazu. Große Empfehlung von meiner Seite aus

Well I just finished this beautiful story of a game and I think just like 5-10 minutes before the end I got some dust in both of my eyes that just made my eyes water so much and so so sniffly.

All joking aside, the story is so moving. So beautiful and sad all at the same time. It is a story that we may have heard before with slight differences or different endings but there was something about this one that just cracked open my feelings box and made me feel vulnerable and made me feel empathy towards the character. I felt her feelings as she traveled across her memories and emotions.

That in itself is a sign of great storytelling and of a great voice-actor.

Absolutely recommend this experience but word of advice, there is 99% chance of dust in your eyes by the end of it.

It's an important title, using a simple, albeit interesting, gameplay style and visuals in order to explain to the player what it may feel like when struggling with Alzheimer's disease. I definitely recommend it, especially because it's not expensive, and it feels like especially today it's important to support fresh ideas like this one. Even more so when they bring a mission with them.
Having said that, the game suffers from poor voice acting and a predictable story. I know it may seem like they are not the point of the game, however, they definitely don't help the immersion. I expected the same emotional shock I had when playing Last Day of June by Ovosonico, but ultimately all I can say is it's an interesting but not fully-accomplished idea.

The game was fairly good. I'd recommend it, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to tell others to play it. It presents a deeply emotional and real experience that many people suffer through; however, its presentation can seem a bit clunky and tacky at times. There is a slight air of melodrama to it which takes away from the realism that we might expect. The visuals are well done and creatively implemented (only appearing once the memory is re-established. I wish the transitions were slightly faster however. The inability to skip dialogue you have already heard, or the time it takes to put back an object for example are far too slow.

Overall, a cute, sad, and enjoyable experience. One in which adds to the indie developer walking simulator genre. I love seeing more games in this genre trying something new. Also, shout out to having an Indian protagonist, that is very rare to see.

场景大多由简单的多面体和贴图构成，反倒更加契合故事的主题。
主角近乎忘却了一切。忘记了自己是谁，自己在哪里，自己要干什么，明明刚刚才回忆起来的事情，转瞬间马上就忘记了。
明明家里全都是和爱人在一起生活的痕迹，自己却除了爱人的名字和喜欢弹钢琴外什么也想不起来。
但一直都能记起来的，是共撑一把伞的雨天，和那段告白的对话。

整体而言谈不上很新鲜，但表现形式确实还是相当细致的。
音乐的话，声效给人感觉印象深刻。前期背景的白噪音，以及处处充满的细节声响，都是给人以一种相当孤独的感觉的声效。
配音确实相当入戏，可以说沉浸感八成来自这里。但要是在最后，女主的声音能逐渐老去，我想戏剧张力会爆棚。

总体而言是温馨而引人回味的故事。喜欢这类故事的可以考虑入手。

天文神话的异域色彩和温带海洋性气候带来的阴郁氛围给这个游戏增添了光彩，回忆在屋内晕染色彩的交互其实也很有温度
但是剧情有点普通，工业悲剧的感觉
不过对患者视角展现还算有趣，流程很短五脏俱全也不错了

提醒一下这个游戏难拿的两个成就，一个是阅读所有的贺卡（信件），一个是收集所有乐谱。基本保证不漏点可交互物件就能拿全，尤其注意放机票的纸箱子那里的乐谱有点容易忽略

Ein sehr sehr schön gestaltetes Spiel, welches zum Nachdenken einlädt. Demenz ist ja ein Thema über das man in jungen Jahren eher weniger nachdenkt und noch weniger kann man sich vorstellen wie es sich anfühlen muss Demenz zu haben, doch dieses Spiel hat es tatsächlich geschafft, dass man sich für einen Augenblick sehr verloren und doch zuhause fühlt.
Die Geschichte an sich ist ein bisschen traurig und hinterlässt einen nachdenklich.
Mit ca. 1-2 std. Spielzeit würde ich es jedem empfehlen.
Sehr schöne Musik, schöne Atmosphäre und einfaches Spielprinzip.
Trotzdem würde ich dieses Spiel nicht spielen wenn man grade traurig ist oder durch das Thema Demenz belastet wird.

So I bought this game shortly after my mother was diagnosed with dementia. I understood what was going on with her medically, but I didn't understand what she was experiencing on a personal level.

I figured it was a long shot finding a game that captured what she was going through but then I found Before I Forget. I played this game from start to finish in one session and I was in tears by the end of it. I can't explain what I felt seeing how the story played out for the main character other than confusion, fear, sadness, moments of happiness, and then back again to sadness when I remembered this is what my mom is going through right now.

I've played many games that seriously tug at your heartstrings but nothing like this! I would recommend this game to anyone who is even slightly curious about the illness and especially if they have a loved one going through this, just with a forewarning that it's going to hurt. But at least you'll also have understanding.
