Being a Ghouls n Ghosts fan i actually really dig this game. It actually combines the best elements of the games in the series, I'd convey it as a mixed up "Super Ghouls and Goblins" if there was such a thing. The double jump is back, theres now three layers of armour and the third one is like a super max power up like in shoot em ups.
The only thing that would top this awesome game is ...if it was was a series game in the franchise.
I'd say I had the same enjoyment from it as the new Ghosts and Goblins game, and the pixel artwork with scanlines is better than that new G&G game.
Think Giana Sisters back on the C64 when Mario was rocking NES.

El Ghost and Goblins con una chica como protagonista y con mecánicas un poco menos pulidas. Lo disfruté bastante aunque es cierto que han metido como más objetos a recoger y magias y en la historia no queda como muy claro como funciona nada. Aún así, está entretenido y está bastante bien. A precio completo lo veo un poco pillado, esperaría a que bajase algo.

i have many hours into this game in offline mode, so dont let the low play time shown fool you. this is a very good game in my opinion. has proper arcade like gameplay even in story mode. its a nice break from the market demand for souls like combat that i hate so much. arcade mode also gives it tons of replayability. its like 2 games in one. its a solid 7/10 overall. support this developer because we need more games like this

Bueno, procedo a reseñar tras haber pasado tanto en modo Arcade como en modo Historia, porque sí, este tributo de Ghost n' Goblins protagonizado por la hija del desarrollador tiene dos formas de jugarle: La clasica a la que estamos acostumbrados y un estilo de exploracion con mejoras, quests secundarias y viajes rapidos donde vemos mas a fondo la trama (modo que tiene un endgame que no pienso farmear porque no tengo ganas)
Como dicen los comentarios, podes encontrar algunos errores (como algunas puertas en mazmorras donde te toma casi cualquier direccion como "arriba", lo cual, si, es bastante molesto) sin embargo es disfrutable y tiene su toque, su carisma y su [b][i]coso[/i][/b].
En cuanto al modo arcade, no tengo queja alguna, Encima tiene el modo "King Daddy" donde en lugar de usar a Madelyn, llevas al padre, torso desnudo, macho alfa, lomo plateado, pecho peludo, espadon de 3 metros que voltea todo, pero tenes rango limitado, parece que no hay powerups y la resurreccion cuesta mas (el sistema de vidas extra tambien es bastante curioso he de decir)
Lo recomiendo para cuando haya ofertas (visto desde el punto de vista de un argentino... que lo compro antes de noviembre de 2023)

Une réalisation graphique plutôt réussie.
On comprend bien l'intention artistique de rappeler l'esthétique des jeux d'antan. Ayant joué avec l'audio version 8 ou 16 bits, l'illusion d'un jeu rétro est quasi-parfaite sauf lors de certains passages où la musique orchestrale aux allures MIDI n'a pas été adaptée.

Une histoire bancale.
Qu'il est fort dommage d'axer l'introduction sur l'annonce d'une narration. Lorsqu'un grand-père s'apprête à raconter une histoire à sa petite-fille malade, on s'attend à davantage de péripéties que simplement un tapage de monstres pour un enjeu trop simpliste. Cette introduction maladroite créer une attente de la part du joueur qui reste sur sa faim... Après, le soucis du jeu est peut-être qu'il repose sur sa fin secrète techniquement inaccessible, impossible de le savoir !

Un système de collecte raté bloquant l'accès au jeu.
Un dernier niveau secret est annoncé. Cependant, celui-ci n'est accessible qu'après avoir collectionné toutes les poupées. Les quêtes résolues auprès des PNJ, les boss vaincus et les fantômes libérés, sont les seules sources de récompenses donnant l'impression d'obtenir un gain aléatoire, allant d'une précieuse poupée à de vulgaire pièces ou d'inutiles morceaux d'armures déjà abondants dans le jeu. Fort malheureusement, même après avoir tout résolu, trois poupées, ici et là, manquent à l'appel, condamnant ainsi l'accès à ce qui pouvait rendre le jeu intéressant, mais n'en fait qu'une frustration face au temps investi aveuglement dans la collecte de ces poupées.

4/10 - Un jeu qui aurait pu être prometteur mais trop frustrant puisque la mécanique sur laquelle il repose est clairement défaillante, d'autant plus que le bug semble avoir été identifié de nombreuses fois depuis un certains moment sans jamais avoir été rectifié... Dommage, c'est vraiment dommage ! Je ne recommande ce jeu que si vous accepter de faire l'expérience d'une aventure sans accomplissement et inaboutie.

A tentativa de fazer um jogo inspirado em Ghouls'n Ghosts é muito louvável, afinal é um excelente jogo que deixou muitos órfãos e a verdade é que se não fossem os desenvolvedores independentes, jamais veríamos jogos assim novamente.
Mas a verdade tem que ser dita, Battle Princess Madelyn, tem bons gráficos, boas animações e uma gameplay que até funciona, mas o level design é terrível, obrigando o jogador a fazer saltos sem nem ter ideia de onde pousar, inimigos super mau posicionados que irritam profundamente, e mesmo as plataformas que você pode ver, muitas vezes é uma tristeza de pular justamente por causa do posicionamento dos inimigos, inimigos esses que spawnam infinitamente, então nada de tempo pra calcular um pulo ou pensar numa estratégia. Enfim, boa tentativa, mas não recomento, senti que joguei dinheiro fora simplesmente porque queria reviver algo do passado!

Muy inspirado en los Ghouls ´N Ghosts con gráficos rollo 16 bits.

Tiene el clásico modo arcade con escenarios y bosses finales, pero también hay un modo historia en el que vas cumpliendo misiones que te encargan en los pueblos, recogiendo todo tipo de armas, subiendo el nivel de estas y consiguiendo nuevas armaduras mágicas, también hay coleccionables, un bestiario, etc.
En este segundo modo de juego existe cierta exploración ya que hay cuevas opcionales con ciertos jefes extra que te dan tesoros.

La dificultad es alta como en todo este tipo de juegos, el pixel art está bonito y la banda sonora es una de las cosas que más destacaría porque mola muchísimo.
Ojo, no está al nivel de otros títulos similares como el "Maldita Castilla" (ese es una obra de arte) pero igualmente merece mucho la pena.

Esta ha sido mi reseña y al que no le guste que le den. 7/10

Pour moi, c'est le digne successeur de ghouls n ghosts sur megadrive, on y retrouve la meme ambiance et le meme type de gameplay. Ce jeu est tout simplement sublime, les musiques, l'histoire, les graphismes, les effets visuels et l'ambiance sont magnifiques. Le mode histoire donne cependant une impression de jeu pas fini, comme si les créateurs du avaient du le finir rapidement. Le système de menu, la carte et le suivi de quetes sont mal faits. Cela n'enlève rien a la beauté du jeu, si vous connaissez et appreciez la série des ghosts n goblins, ghouls n ghosts, super ghouls n ghosts, ultimate ghouls n ghosts vous allez adorer ce jeu, c 'est un véritable chef d'oeuvre. A posséder absolument.

Das Spiel ist offensichtlich stark von Capcoms G&G Reihe inspiriert, sieht nur um einiges schicker aus und ist um einiges leichter. Grafik und Sound sind super atmosphärisch, die Steuerung geht gut von der Hand(mit Controller). Ja es gibt ein paar nervige Instant-Kills weil man nicht sieht was unter einem ist, störte mich aber nicht sonderlich, solche Todessprünge gab es in G&G im Duzend.

Мне игра понравилась, но рекомендовать Вам её конечно не буду, если только при 100% скидке.

И так плюсы:
1)Приятный ретрографоний;
2)Пет псина-призрак;
3)Локация Испания очень сильно выделяется на фоне остальных, а именно большим количеством повешаных, зомби-звери с кусками оторваной плоти, в общем какаято-взрослая локация;
4)Дедушка нашей принцессы русский;
5) Боссы, но только в плане рисовки.

Минусы:
1) Баги:
а)Можно провалиться в затекстурье (редко);
b)Может зависнуть диалог, не успев начаться, лечится перезапуском локи (редко);
c)Слез с лестницы, но лестница не слезла с тебя, т.е. анимация перемещения по лестнице осталась и ты тупо летаеш по локе без возможности атаковать, лечится взбиранием на лестницу, клин клином как говорится (нормально);
d)А вот шутейка с квэстами это ни в какие ворота, описания квэста не соответствует фактическому расположению цели, вытекающее из этого блуждание по всем локам бесит;
e)Тоже связанно с квэстами, добился секретной концовки только после 5го прохождения, действия идентичны, при выполнении одинакового количества квэстов NPC награждали меня разным количеством кукол что вылевалось в количество оных 48,49,47 при требуемых 50и штуках.
f)после очередного неудачного прохождения, запустил игру по новой и удивился что 3лвл брони и оружия мне оставили, баг или фича не понятно;
2)Боссы, нарисованны норм, но не держат в напряжении их мув сет состоит из 2х ударов, ну ок у Валькирии из 3х)) Самые скучные боссы в мире;
3)Это гребанный отскок на 2 метра назад, ЗАЧЕМ? Вас кусает маленькая летучая мышь, вы отскакиваете и умираете на шипах;
4) Не стоит игнорировать предупреждение для эпилептиков, Ваши глаза умрут, дрожание и вспышки на боссах заставят Вас плакать кровью (это единственное чем эти самые боссы могут Вас одолеть);
5) Зачем на локации Италия сделали буст звука шагов скулетов??? Теперь еще кровь пойдет из ушей, если закрыть глаза то можно понастальгировать о школьных временах в спортзале, где твои напарники выделываются поскрипывая новыми кроссовками.

БАГИ и ОТСУТСТИЕ поддержки убили игру с потенциалом(((

Juego entretenido pero que puede engañar a simple vista. Visual y jugablemente es obvio que estamos ante un clon/tributo a Ghouls'N Ghosts / Ghosts'N Goblins. El juego se siente muy similar a dicha saga cuando te pones a los mandos. Sin embargo, este juego no es un plataformas clásico de pasar pantallas como sí lo era la saga de Capcom, sino que es una aventura plataformera con toques roleros y de avance no lineal, con cierto backtracking y muy muy muy (pero muy) similar al Castlevania 2 de NES.

Lo que vas a encontrar en Battle Princess Madelyn es un Castlevania 2 al que han cambiado la skin por un clon de Ghosts'N Goblins. Por tanto, deberemos ir recorriendo una decena de localizaciones separadas por pequeñas aldeas en las que nos irán dando misiones. Dichas misiones podrán ser opcionales o no para avanzar en el juego, y requerirán que visitemos las distintas zonas varias veces si queremos completarlo todo. Además, como en Castlevania 2, el juego tiene ligeros toques de RPG de forma que tendremos un buen puñado de armas y habilidades distintas que podemos seleccionar en cualquier momento una vez conseguidas, mejoras de armadura y potencia de ataque, un inventario con distintos objetos, etc. Todo ello, como digo, con el estilo visual y jugabilidad de la antigua saga de Capcom (aunque con una dificultad muy inferior).

Como nota adicional, si has jugado Maldita Castilla, decir que este título cuenta con todo un nivel dedicado al juego español (incluyendo la aparición de Don Ramiro!) que seguro te sacará una sonrisa. En definitiva, si te gustan títulos como Ghouls'N Ghosts y Maldita Castilla, creo que este juego te puede gustar también ya que captura muy bien su esencia a la vez que cambia el tipo de avance sustituyéndolo por el ya mencionado sistema de Castlevania 2.

Design in overall is beautiful, very beautiful indeed, and the soundtrack is great as well, but with so many technical flaws about unpolished mechanics, random visual effects that pollute the screen, bad graphics etc., this looks like it was the first game made from this dev. Couldn't enjoy playing it.

If you still want to give a chance because of the artistic aspects, which I understand completely, remember to test the available demo before spenting $20 on it (or a better price on discount during a sale, which I strongly suggest).

스팀 평가가 지나치게 낮길래 기대 안했는데, 뚜껑 열어보니 매우 잘 만들었고 그만큼 재미있었습니다. 비교대상이 불합리한 판정 때문에 보는 것만 재밌었던 짭마계촌 1호 저주받은 카스티야란 점에서 더더욱.

마계촌보다 암울한만큼 난이도도 거의 초대 마계촌 못지 않게, 혹은 그 이상으로 악랄했던 저주받은 카스티야에 비해 배틀 프린세스는 게임 분위기가 밝은만큼 난이도도 훨씬 쉽습니다. 개인적으로 런앤건 게임을 좋아해서 마계촌, 록맨, 메탈슬러그, 건스타 히어로즈 등을 많이 했었는데... 마계촌은 난이도가 너무 높고 마계촌풍의 적당한 중세풍 런앤건 게임이 없다고 생각하는데 이게 딱 제가 찾는 게임성에 부합하긴 하네요.

한번 피격당할 때 넉백이 크고 자칫 낙사하기 쉽다는 점은 마계촌의 단점을 그대로 답습하긴 합니다만, 대마계촌의 상하단 샷과 초마계촌의 이단점프에 록맨의 점프 조작감까지 전부 도입한 덕분에 진행은 훨씬 편리합니다. 보스들은 패턴화가 잘 되어 있지만 아무래도 패턴을 모르면 무조건 당할 수밖에 없으니 유튜브 공략영상을 참조하시는 게 좋을 것 같습니다. 특히 최종보스는 패턴 3개가 하나같이 단순하지만, 체력이 무식할 정도로 높아 손가락이 아픈데다 최종 페이즈에서 화면 흔들림이 매우 심하기 때문에 알고도 맞아야 하는 경우가 많아 피로감이 심한 편입니다. 패턴 하나 잘못 걸리면 바로 낙사해서 많은 체력이 소진되기도 하고.

마계촌 시리즈에 비하면 이 정도는 그나마 양반이긴 합니다만 아무래도 메탈슬러그나 록맨에 비하면 어려운 편인 건 사실. 솔직히 돌아온 마계촌이 PC용으로는 안 나왔기 때문에 하는 감도 있긴 합니다만, 그 마계촌 모딩 중 주인공을 미소녀 캐릭터로 TS시킨 그런 모드가 생각나는 게임이었습니다.

일단 이건 아케이드 모드 기준으로 평했구요, 스토리 모드같은 경우는 아직 전부 클리어하지 못했습니다. 스토리 모드같은 경우는 아케이드 모드에서 기본적으로 제공하는 기능들이 초반엔 하나둘씩 조건을 클리어해 해금해야 하는지라 난이도는 어려운데 지루하기까지 하긴 합니다. 아케이드모드에선 뿅뿅 진행하던 부분들이 좀 길게 늘어지는 편이라서요. 이 NPC 저 NPC들이 닥치고 던져주는 쓸데없는 퀘스트들이 참 거슬리기도 하구요. 다만 스토리 모드에선 아케이드 모드에 미등장한 몇몇 보스들이 더 출현하니 모든 컨텐츠를 즐기시려면 스토리모드도 해보시는 게 좋을 것 같긴 합니다.

그리고 스토리모드에선 록맨처럼 상황에 따라 무기 체인지가 가능하다는 스토리모드만의 이점이 있는데요. 그 덕분에 후반으로 가면 아케이드 모드에 비해선 좀 수월하지 않을까 그런 생각이 듭니다. 특히 최종보스같은 경우는 2페이즈에서 본체를 때리다보면 얻어맞을 때가 많아 회피에 집중하는 게 중요하니, 그만큼 본체 극딜 부담이 적은 한방 대미지가 높은 무기가 절실하기도 하구요. 한방 대미지 무기를 계속 고집하기엔 그런 무기들의 구린 판정 때문에 그 전까지 고생하는데, 록맨식 무기 체인지 기능 하나만으로 이게 한번에 다 해결되어 버리네요.

뭐 게임의 전반적인 단점도 몇개 발견하긴 했는데요. 마법이 주인공의 개 유령으로 멀리 있는 적을 공격하는 스킬 하나 뿐인데다, 마법을 한번 사용할수록 사실상의 체력 게이지나 다름없는 영혼 게이지가 닳는 부분도 조금 거슬렸습니다. 그렇다고 마법이 그렇게나 강한 것도 아니고. 물론 2스테이지부터 쭉 등장하는 매우 골치아픈 적인 해골궁수를 안전하게 한방에 처치 가능하다는 점은 분명 활용도가 괜찮은 편이긴 한데요. 마법 페널티도 적지 않으면서 단 한가지로 몰개성하고 위력도 뭐 그저 그래서 도중에 뭔가 좀 더 강한 마법같은 게 등장하지 않을까 기대해봤는데 끝까지 아무것도 없더군요. 그런 부분이 많이 아쉽네요. 스토리 모드에선 아직 그 마법도 못 열었습니다.

물론 마계촌 시리즈에서 패턴화만 잘 시켜놓으면 마법 하나 잘 써서 날로먹는 경우도 있고, 그러다 조금만 어긋나서 갑옷이 벗겨져버리면 답이 없어지는 문제는 있지만 그렇다고 이렇게까지 마법 기믹을 밟아야 하는 건가 좀 그런 생각이 듭니다.(기껏 완성시킨 황금갑옷이 벗겨지면 마법 못 쓰는 건 초마계촌까지 이야기고 그 이후 작품에서는 갑옷하고 마법이 따로 돌아가는 시스템으로 개선되었다고 알고 있습니다만... 어차피 마계촌 고인물들은 그 한대조차 맞지를 않으니 뭐 아무래도 좋은 일들이군요.)

그리고 기본 무기인 랜스가 너무 우수해서, 다른 무기가 그렇게 꼭 필요한가 잘 체감이 안 됩니다. 한번에 여러 적을 공격할 수 있고 벽 너머 적도 공격 가능한 채찍이라던가, 딱 봐도 마계촌처럼 한방 무기인 검, 뭔가 숨겨진 최강의 무기같은데 스테이지 진행에선 더럽게 구렸던 요술봉(근접무기)같은 근접무기들은 특정 상황에선 좋은데 그 이외 상황에서 너무 취약하구요. 강화되면 여러 방향으로 나가서 쓸만했던 단검같은 무난한 무기도 결국 후반엔 랜스에게 좀 밀려나는 감이 크네요. 기본 상태면 랜스보다 딱히 더 좋을 것도 없고. 횃불처럼 그냥 존재 자체가 지뢰인 무기가 없는 편이라 그게 그나마 다행입니다.

솔직히 게임 해보고 느끼는 건데, 평점이 왜 이렇게 부정적인가 거의 분탕 유저들의 평점 조작이 의심될 정도로 이해가 안 갑니다. 지금 낮은 평점 정말 많이 과장된 거니 그냥 믿고 게임 하셔도, 런앤건 매니아라면 어지간하면 후회 안하실 거라고 장담합니다. 사실 평점 낮은 것 때문에 빡쳐서 이거 그렇게 구린 게임 아니라고 설명충질 하느라 스크롤이 길어졌네요. 긴 설명 읽어주셔서 감사합니다.

横スクロールのアクションゲーム、このゲームには主に2つのモードがあって、一つはひたすらにモンスターをなぎ倒し進み続けるアーケードモード、もう一つはそれに探索の要素を付け加えたストーリーモードだ。

このゲームのアーケードモードについてはモンスターが固く、自分と同じ軸に急にモンスターが湧くという以外に表す言葉は持ってないが、ストーリーモードはそれに下方向への視界が非常に悪いという要素も加わる、アーケードモードはその視界の悪さが命取りになることはストーリーモードより少ないが、ストーリーモードについては別である、縦穴を見つけるたびにマップを凝視し底がどうなっているのか確認する必要がある、確認を怠り飛び降りようものなら針山にその屍をさらすことになるだろう。

ストーリーモードについては他にも気になる部分があり、これは自分のパソコンのスペックが低いからなのかもしれないがワープ先を決めるレスポンスがとんでもなく悪く、かつワープの位置が絶妙にクソな位置にあるのが多少、いや、かなり気にかかる、これはストーリーモード特有の探索パート(主に子供の捜索や金稼ぎ)で同じところをぐるぐる回るために数百回ワープを使うからである。

良い部分ももちろんあり、中盤にロシアやらスペインなどにも冒険に行くのだが雰囲気にグラフィックがマッチしているのだ(地域によって似たような雑魚でもグラフィックが違う(もちろん固い))グラフィックだけでなくBGMもとても雰囲気に合っておりかつ豪華なものになっていて、ピコッとしたアーケードとオーケストラの二種類から選ぶことができる。

個人的にはアーケードモードは敵の硬さ、ストーリーは視界、ワープ、終盤までの武器の使い分けの無意味さなどもあり、楽しいゲームなのだが人に勧められるかと聞かれたら、まあそんなわけがないんだよな。

生で買うと結構値が張るので買うとしたらセール時かな？
セールを待つなんて楽なもんだろ。

Great game, the controls are a little stiff but if you're familiar with the games it is based on then it makes sense. Honestly, I found the game got a bit too easy towards the end once you upgrade the weapons and armour, but the challenge is pretty good throughout most of the game.

As old school gamer I still play retro style games but this one is done quite bad.

Its clearly inspired (I would say more replicating some elements and implemeting the original concept quite badly) to Ghouls&Ghost series and Black Tiger(another great game mid 80s from capcom).

The level design its probably one of the worst I ever seen in a game (I played and still play games from 80/90s) and while playing I was asking myself what is the point of having a ladder here or a platform there which takes nowhere, overall design is confusing forcing the player to stop and think.... where do I go now, not having much choice you just jump and hope for the best that there is a platform or something that wont make you die(ghoul and ghost is a bit more linear and Black Tiger have arrows telling you where to go!). Enemy placement is quite bad too not really thinking how to make the level a bit challenging and rewarding. Another thing... what is the point of collecting gold if there are no shop where you can purchase upgrades? Black Tiger the idea of collecting coins was for the player to buy upgrades! Someone might say the coins are for collecting points... well be a bit more creative and put something else(like statues, orbs, medallions just to mention few examples).

Some graphics elements are very confusing too which some times creates confusion of what are elements that the player can interact with and the background like for example some ladders or platform are part of the backdrop.
The graphics is nice and the animations are good(total rip off of these old games I mentioned.) I like the music too and the option to switch between orchestrated and chip tune.

This could have been a fantastic game but for reason mentioned above its mediocre at best.

The game offer 2 option Arcade and Story mode but I will keep it short here. Story mode confusing not sure where to go and what to do I played a little and its clear that player is forced to repeat several time the level.

Arcade seems best option but due to level design make the game bad. Another annoying thing is the fact that arcade mode you cannot save the progress and forcing you to finish the game in one sitting.

While in the past this was understandable for several reasons (for example technical because memory was expensive at that time) there is no excuse in these day not have a memory dump of the progress, you cannot really expect people to be keep the game open or having them chained to a chair.

When I purchased the game I knew it was a mixed bag of different action platform game but I believed that the devs actually but some thoughts in the design not just implementing very badly concept(which its clear that are not fully understood from the level designer) that made the old classics great.

Overall I think the devs should re-look at the game and fix a few things(but looking at the release date I dont think the devs will go back and re-design the levels). It is a shame because this could have been a great game!

I leave it for now, $20 buck are not the end of the world I am just a little disappointed, perhaps if the devs are planning to create a sequel I hope they would put more energy in the level design.

Please note the above is not to offend anybody its just my opinion about the game, I would advise not to clone or copy things from old game but just to take inspiration and make things better.

Thank you for the game and I feel that the devs did put some care in it. Its just the level design is really bad :( please fix it!

This is a really good game. It has tight controls and good game play. It has everything I liked about Ghosts & Ghouls and adds a few things to keep it interesting. I feel like the arcade mode is a lot more fun than the story mode.

The only thing I don't like about the game so far is the "leaps of faith" that were needed. These don't detract from the game too much though.

夜中に急に超魔界村がやりたくなってセール中な事もあり開発してしまいました。
調整が必要な超魔界村オマージュ作品。かなりおしい。

[h1]辛口アクションというよりヘルスはあるのでボコボコ被弾しながらクリアしてください的な要素。[/h1]

アーケードモードのプロローグくらいスキップさせてくれてもいいと思うし、
敵の出現の仕方も調整したほうがいいし、武器の消える速さも周りの雑魚を片付けてる間に消えたりする代わりに
ドロップ率が高めでアーマーでさえ雑魚から4連続くらいドロップする。武器も鎧も必要以上にドロップします。
当たり判定の基準も直感的に理解できず、特にボス戦は体当たり的検証が必須で攻撃モーション以外はボスの体に当たり判定が無かったり。
被弾し、ノックバックで穴に落ちて死亡してもその穴の目の前で復活したり
細かい調整を省く代わりにヘルスを増やしましたから許して的な中途半端さが
少なくとも超魔界村を意識してプレイしてしまった私には特にモヤモヤが大きくプレイを続行する気になれませんでした。
せめて実績のアイコンくらいドッドアートで作っていてくれていればやる気はでたかもしれない。

ストーリーモードは”Shantae: Half-Genie Hero”ライクでスキル取ってから前のステージに戻る的な村人のお使い形式で報酬を得たりして買い物したりする的なフォーマット。
そう、[h1]グラや挙動が超魔界村をオマージュしたシャンティをやりたい人にはすごくお勧めします！[/h1]

私には文字がでかくてぼやけて読みにくいフォントにタラタラ長いどうでもいい会話とどうでもいいストーリーをスパっとスキップできないのは苦痛でした。返品。

I don't usually like to leave indie games bad reviews especially when you can tell that the devs made something they were clearly proud of. Super Ghouls and ghosts is one of my favourite games from my childhood and Battle Princess Madelyn is a huge tribute to that game.
The graphics are bright and colourful and it looks exactly like a SNES game. The controls are pretty precise and attacking enemies feels good but there's just something a bit off about it. An hour in to the game i'm already forced to take leaps of faith because there's no way to pan the camera so i jump and land on an enemy or straight in to a spike pit.
There's side missions where you have to find certain items for NPC's but there's no decent way to track those missions. The game doesn't show the location of those NPC's is so you have to back track through whole levels searching like an idiot.
Sometimes it's tricky to tell if something is a platform you can jump on or if it's just part of the background and there also seems to be missing sound effects for explosions and other things making the game feel a bit unfinished.

I really wanted to like this game and maybe some of those issues will be fixed with updates but i'm getting a refund while i still have the chance because i can't see myself sinking hours in to this.

Oh boy, this really needs a lot of work before it's playable. Controls are good, aesthetics are nice (although I never liked this lighting over 2d visuals garbo), music is decent. But this game is 101 Newbie Mistakes of level design. I don't hate it, but you gotta see it to believe it. The way it is now, it can be taught in game design school. How many basic mistakes can you spot, kids? Damn.

Mediocre at best.
I love platforming/action games, but this is the very first in the genre I've dropped and neverintend to finish. Everything (level design, gameplay mechanics, story, sounds, graphics) is badly designed in it. The only exception is the health system, it is just poorly implemented: while the concept and the armor/recharge mechanics is great, after a hit you'll fly away. While flying, you can't grab/jump on anything, and thanks to the level design you'll most likely land in a spiketrap or bottomless pit, which is instant death. The biggest problem is that you can only attack in front of you and directly above you, while the enemies can come from all direction (even from below you). Levelling up your dagger ONCE solves this problem greatly, since it will throw 3 daggers in 3 directions, but if you upgrade it once more, it actually loses this ability. You've read right, the game actually gives you a penalty with the 'upgrade'. Still, its fine until you assemble the stitchbot, but then came the most frustrating skeleton enemy ever: they are everywhere, takes insane amounts of attack, and has a REALLY annoying sound effect you will constantly hear in 2 screen radius. Oh and the enemies will constantly respawn. Even right where you stand, without warning. On the last note: the map is barely usable, and the points of interest will never disappear from it. I've played many free flash platformers way better than this ♥♥♥♥.

La verdad esperaba mas de este juego, algo mas llamativo algo que me atraiga, pero nah..es un juego estilo metroidvania "el peor que jugue este año" tiene muchos bug..por ejemplo un momento estas disparando y la eprsonaje deja de lanzar una lanza, enemigos que te salen del culo "y eso no es la dificultad, osea matas a uno y de golpe es como que revivie y te toca" personajes npc que te piden cosas ..no entiendo por que hay dinero o monedas en el juego si no puedes comprar nada..al igual que "orbes de armaduras o armas" yo al menos no encontre en que gastar eso..y el arte es muy lindo "al menos las cinematicas si son buenas2 pero solo eso, ni su musica es muy buena..una pena, menos mal no compre esto a precio completo.

La reco sera timide pour ce Battle Princess Madelyn, malheureusement capable du meilleur comme du pire... Mais dans la mesure où ses nombreuses qualités font que j'y retourne personnellement avec beaucoup de plaisir, difficile de ne pas lui mettre un pouce bleu (surtout soldé à 4€)...

Au 1er contact, j'ai été assez déçue par tout un tas de petits détails agaçants.
-Déjà, les ennemis qui apparaissent directement SUR le joueur, ainsi qu'aux points d’atterrissage des sauts, et ce, dès le tout début du jeu : hyper pénible.
-Impossibilité de regarder en bas : pour savoir sur quoi vous allez atterrir (ce qui rend le passage de plateforme en Espagne particulièrement gonflant), obligation de regarder la carte donc.
-Or cette map est médiocre et s'avère vite lourdingue à consulter (Start + bas + bas + zoom), alors qu'une touche appelant directement la carte en plein écran aurait été carrément utile sur un des deux boutons de façade inutilisés.
-Parfois, le level design est vraiment à la ramasse, non pas sur le plan esthétique, mais sur le plan de sa construction inutilement alambiquée, voire mal pensée.
-Un trousseau magique est sensé clignoter devant des portes ouvrables. Or il clignote parfois devant des portes déjà ouvertes, mais PAS devant des portes fermées.
-Si le mode histoire est à mon goût beaucoup trop bavard pour pas grand chose, je ne m'acharnerai pas trop là dessus, puisque c'est le principe même d'un mode story d'essayer d'intégrer un scénario (même si ici ce n'est clairement pas le point fort du jeu).
-Quêtes secondaires fedex hyper redondantes et sans réel intérêt : retrouver les objets perdus des PNJ genre "j'ai perdu ma cuiller, mon chapeau, ou la perruque de mon chien" ou encore "les ch'tis n'enfans égarés" : on tombe sur un gamin dans un niveau, et il faudra juste dégommer un certain nombre d'ennemis autour de lui pour le sauver.
Le vrai défi est de valider ces quêtes en retrouvant QUI a demandé QUOI à travers la multitude de niveaux, puisque rien n'est indiqué. (Le journal de quêtes étant aussi médiocrement réalisé que la carte).

-Pièges parfois illisibles, particulièrement dans les niveaux aquatiques où les algues mortelles étrangement ternes semblent vraiment faire partie de l'arrière-plan du décor...
-Un seul emplacement de save
-Environ 45 secondes d'écrans & animations souvent stériles au lancement : longuet pour ce genre de jeu. [i](pop-up à valider, avertissement divers dans des typos tour à tour crades et illisibles, ou qui n'affichent pas certains caractères, animations de logo ou de titre inzappables et inutilement longues, artwork superflu avec juste "appuyer sur X" avant d'arriver sur un SECOND menu... En fait c'est triste à dire mais à elle seule, cette intro bancale pleine de coquilles et maladresses pourtant évidentes résume assez bien toute l'ergonomie du jeu.)[/i]
-Upgrader les armes au lvl.3 est désavantageux je trouve, puisqu'on perd la particularité très serviable de lancer les couteaux 3 par 3 du lvl.2, et tout ça pour écoper d'un doublon de la lance sans réel intérêt...
-Les textes dans les bulles de dialogues des PNJs défilent trop lentement, et sans le moindre bruitage sensé évoquer une "voix" comme c'était pourtant l'usage dans les 90's (Zelda: A Link to the Past, ou même récemment Céleste). De plus, il manque parfois la fin de certaines phrases, le texte étant impossible à scroller.

-Je conclurai mes reproches avec un truc que j'ai trouvé super lourd et qui m'a fait perdre beaucoup de temps : L'inventaire comptabilise combien vous avez de "clés de boss" et de "clés normales".
Ce qu'il ne dit pas, c'est qu'une clé de boss n'ouvre pas n'importe quelle porte de boss.
Or une des clés de boss nécessaires à l'avancée de la quête principale se trouve sur une quête secondaire apparemment anecdotique, et il est donc facile de passer complètement à côté.
Je me suis donc retrouvée avec DEUX clés de boss stockées dans l'inventaire, devant une porte de boss qui refusait de s'ouvrir sans que je comprenne pourquoi.
J'ai recommencé le niveau encore et encore, fouiné aux alentours, relancé le jeu etc. Finalement, croyant à un bug bloquant, j'ai entièrement recommencé le jeu depuis le début et me suis retrouvée coincée exactement au même endroit, avant de trouver par hasard la clé en récompense d'une de ces multiples quêtes secondaires de sauvetage de gamin...
Donc ça, je trouve que c'est typiquement le genre de choix de design de quête obscurs à revoir ou au moins EXPLIQUER pour ce type de jeu, car je pense que pas mal de gens auraient carrément lâché l'affaire devant ce genre de truc.

Après, j'aurai probablement abandonné moi aussi si je n'avais pas trouvé le jeu aussi addictif!
Car en fait, malgré sa pléthore de défauts assez irritants, j'aime beaucoup Battle Princess Madelyn qui est à mes yeux le meilleur Ghouls'n Ghosts-like qui soit!
Si j'osais, j'affirmerais même que je le préfère à l'original, et ce pour une raison très simple : il a su retirer toute l'essence qui faisait le charme du jeu de Capcom, a réussi à restituer son gameplay simple et hyper fonctionnel, tout en rendant le jeu ENFIN abordable en terme de difficulté! Et ce dernier point est à mon sens un de ses plus gros atouts.

Je trouve que l'ambiance est absolument parfaite, tant sur le plan esthétique que musical! Sur ces points purement cosmétiques et sonores, Battle Princess Madelyn surpasse même carrément son modèle il me semble, avec des décors certes rétros, mais beaux, colorés et variés, très réussis et parfaitement dans l'esprit Ghouls'n Ghosts.
Le gameplay de G&G est également impeccablement restitué (dommage que cette histoire de spawn d'ennemis sur le perso gâche un peu tout ça).
-La quête du forgeron donnera soudainement une utilité à la multitude de pièces et de fragments d'armes et armures qu'on ramasse en permanence sans trop savoir pourquoi, puisqu'il pourra upgrader armes et armure jusqu'au level 3.
-Au passage, la main squelette qui indique la direction d'un item de quête à proximité est plutôt sympa et pratique. Bien pensé.
-L'exploration est assez bien récompensée par de petits items à collectionner, et le jeu cache pas mal de passages secrets.
-Des Boss sympas relèvent légèrement le challenge, sans jamais être insurmontables.
Et lorsque j'ai recommencé le jeu à cause de cette histoire de clé que je prenais pour un bug, j'ai tout rushé en 3h pour revenir au même point, alors que ça m'en avait pris 8 la première fois... Simplement parce qu'une fois qu'on sait à peu près où aller et qu'on est à l'aise avec le pattern des Boss, tout s’enchaîne impeccablement et avec plaisir. Bizarrement, j'ai beaucoup plus apprécié mon second run que le premier... ce qui m'a donné l'occasion de m'attaquer un peu au mode "arcade", qui s'avère plus exigeant, mais aussi plus proche de l'expérience Ghouls'n Ghosts originelle dans ses règles et sa construction. Et ce mode offre donc une excellente rejouabilité à mon avis.

En tout cas, soldé à environ 4€ c'est plus qu'honnête si vous appréciez le genre.
À ce tarif, je ne regrette clairement pas mon achat.

Pour conclure, ce jeu semble avoir eu un développement assez chaotique, puisque depuis ses débuts en early, il a beaucoup évolué, mais (à mon sens), pas toujours dans les bonnes directions.
Certaines modifications étaient non seulement inutiles, mais même malvenues, surtout au vu du nombre hallucinant de choses plus importantes à corriger et qui ne l'ont pas été... (Par exemple, les typos de texte ont changé au moins 3 fois, et celle en place aujourd'hui est moins belle et moins propre que la précédente)...
C'est vraiment dommage que Battle Princess Madelyn n'ait pas bénéficié d'une meilleure finition, car même si les tares qu'il conserve ne suffisent (heureusement) pas à complètement le pourrir, la sensation de petit gâchis regrettable se ressent quand même nettement.

หลังจากเล่นไป 15 ชั่วโมง ค่อนข้างโอเครเลย เสียเวลากับการ Story mode ทำให้ Arcade Mode ไม่ไปไหน จุดที่ชอบ Level Design ทำออกมาได้ดีเกินคาด ถึงแม้กราฟิกจะเป็นสไตล์ Pixel มีแสง เงา เงาสะท้าน จัดเต็ม ศัตรูออกแบบมาแต่ละฉากไม่ซ้ำกัน แต่อาจจะมีบางตัวที่นำมาใช้รวมกันหลายๆ ฉาก
จุดที่ติน่าจะเป็น Boss ภายในเกมที่ออกแบบมาได้สวย แต่ง่ายเกินไป รูปแบบการโจมตีเดิมๆ จับทางได้ไม่ยาก Boss บางตัวเห็นการโจมตี 2-3 ครั้งก็จับทางได้ล่ะ

จริงส่วนตัวคิดว่าราคาที่ลดแล้วไม่ถึงร้อย มี 2 โหมดให้เล่น คุ้มค่ามากๆ ครับ

BPM is really a good funny game a great omage to the G'N'G serie.
But it's not without problems, the biggest one is the inability to look up and down, this REALLY is an issue in later levels like Russia where some pits are traps other are the right way, but there's no telling is just blind falls.
We must agree though that the difficulty is not NEARLY as high as the G'N'G games(it's pretty easy IMO) thanks to the really good jump controls(In the GNG games the jump SUCK you now it's true...this is what make those games even more hard let's be honest here)
The graphic is really well made altough some times there's a little bit of confusion in the tiles and patterns: sometimes you can jump down...sometimes you can't, sometimes the projectiles can through sometimes they can't...a problem also of the hit detection that need to be a little more polish.
Not a big variety of enemies(especially underwater), but they're pretty good overall.
The audio is great, the soundtrack is amazing...but i think the sound effects needs a little more variety.
But YEAH afterall is a really fun game that need to be polished a little bit more to be a great game.

- looks nice.

cons:
- enemy placement is awful
- hitboxes are a joke, specially with bosses (and specially yours).
- the map is useless
- every single animation is exagerated to the point that is irritating
- loooooots of backtraking.
- there is no way to look ahead in any direccion, so lots of leap of faiths
- hard to tell what is background and what is the ground/platform.

The game is blatantly unpolished.

You can tell that whoever did the visuals had some love for the game but the ones who came up with the all other elements of gameplay design wanted to finish it as soon as possible.

The result is a game that is repetitive and boring. I wanted to at least finish it but I just didn't care enough and stopped close to the end. Not because it's hard (It's very easy in fact, especially in contrast with G&G) but because I can't stand all the blind backtracking.

當初在遊戲九館試玩後，覺得不錯，所以在秋季特賣的時候入手，昨天大概花兩個半小時破了街機模式

本作的劇情，簡單說就是個公主拯救親人的故事

遊戲性上，本作玩起來很像魔界村，有鎧甲、兩段跳和魔法（召喚獸？）的設定，攻擊可以往上下左右攻擊
升級後的鎧甲也會順便把武器升級，而魔法雖然只是攻擊畫面上的特定敵人，但是可以透過累積殺敵數來增加魔法使用次數
以我目前只破了街機模式來說，有看過三種不同的鎧甲，武器則是看過大劍、小刀、長矛、盾牌、斧頭和魔法杖，遊戲還算好玩

不過遊戲有幾個小缺點：
1、有時候會分不出來畫面上的物件是背景畫面還是可以踩踏的平台
2、雖然說有鎧甲及不同武器的設定，但是遊戲的中後段不太容易撿到鎧甲或是其他武器，導致我有很長的時間都是拿魔法杖，最後打王的時候不小心換到大劍，就也只能用大劍打王（也有可能是遊戲製作者怕玩家過不了，而固定武器？）
3、遊戲的BGM稍微普通了點
4、關卡的難度不一，有的關卡很容易，有的難度明顯提升
5、每關BOSS的行動模式太固定，除了最後一關的BOSS以外，幾乎看一兩次就可以穩定攻略

整體來說，遊戲還算不錯，不算太難，若是對魔界村類型遊戲有興趣的玩家可以試試看

補充一下故事模式的心得
故事模式變成類銀和戰士惡魔城的模式
主要是透過探索地圖，解相關的任務，來打倒該地區的BOSS
武器及鎧甲可以透過升級來提升威力及防禦力（防禦次數？）
雖然任務的提示多半只有說明在哪個地區，但是因為有提供地圖，找起來應該不會太吃力
比較大的問題應該是有些支線任務沒解，主線會進行不下去（會沒有新的地圖）

整體的難度不高，尤其是武器鎧甲升級後，打BOSS根本就是虐菜
想要挑戰的玩家，或許可以透過不升級武器或鎧甲來增加難度

Me fastidia ponerle una crítica negativa a un juego con un aspecto gráfico tan bien cuidado, pero es que no hay manera.

Por un lado, el juego ofrece dos modos (Arcade e Historia), sin indicar cuál es el "correcto", imagino que ambos lo sean.

El modo historia es, bueno, un desastre. Ya de base, un Ghosts n Goblins de mundo abierto da bastante miedito, por tener que hacer backtracking por niveles de elevada dificultad una y otra vez, buscando lo que nos falta, pero es que además el juego no informa correctamente de ello. Tras una hora intentando encontrar por donde seguir tras llegar al tercer pueblo, no fui capaz a encontrar el camino. Imagino que me falte una llave, que vete a saber donde está, que abre alguna puerta, que vete a saber donde está. Si el objetivo estuviese bien indicado, no tendría mucho problema en reandar el camino (no son tan largos), pero no es el caso.

El modo arcade está mejor, siendo más fiel a los juegos originales (pero más difícil que el modo historia).

El manejo en general es preciso, y el combate es correcto, pero con tres problemas MUY importantes.

1- Verticalidad: El plataformeo tiene partes con bastante verticalidad, pero la cámara no se presta a ello. En muchas ocasiones hay que hacer "saltos de fe" por no ver lo que hay debajo, y en muchas ocasiones (pero no todas), lo que nos espera es la muerte.

2- Arqueros: Un enemigo muy común son los arqueros, que nos disparan flechas al vernos. El problema es que estos proyectiles son muy rápidos y los arqueros apenas tienen tiempo de preparación, es decir, que hay que estar muy atentos (o saber dónde salen) para no ser golpeados. Y en un juego donde ser golpeado implica salir volando, con altas probabilidades de caer en un precipicio o algún otro peligro mortal, es algo muy frustrante.

3- Objetos: De forma similar a GnG, en el modo arcade este juego tiene items en forma de armas y armaduras. El problema es que la única forma de conseguirlos es de un enemigo específico (un goblin que lleva un saco). Este enemigo sólo sale en las primeras pantallas, y después en el jefe final. Esto significa que la segunda mitad del modo Arcade nos la pasaremos con el último arma que hubiésemos encontrado (que las hay regulares), y sin ver nunca más las armaduras que dan más vida y mejores ataques.

Al final, Battle Princess Madelyn homenajea al Ghosts n Goblins correctamente, con guiños divertidos y con protagonista femenino, pero falla en tonterías que deberían ser fácilmente solucionables, y que hacen que la experiencia sea de todo menos divertida. Una pena.

Llevo poco jugado pero me está encantando, muy al estilo de Super Ghouls N Ghosts de SNES y con una dificultad similar.

Buena banda sonora, buen diseño tanto de enemigos como de niveles y personajes.

Diversos modos entre los que están ARCADE (Lo que viene siendo las recreativas de toda la vida) y un modo historia en el que además de ir avanzando vas mejorando el personaje, desbloqueando habilidades y cumpliendo misiones que te van pidiendo.

Si encima tienes un mando arcade como en las recreativas es una delicia.

100% Recomendado.

Un bue juego al estilo de los viejos juegos de arcadias, es dificil pero justo comparandolo con la dificultad de los Ghouls and Goblins del NES y SNES.
Tiene algunos detalles que falta por pulir a la presentación y aparecen algunos glitchs con los Sprites, pero nada que distraiga mucho del juego, mi mayor problema es que los jefes son muy faciles, solo tienen como 3 patrones de ataques, y los convierte en una tarea muy tediosa en especial si quieres solo usar las armas sin mejoras.

La genesi di Battle Princess Madelyn è di quelle in grado di raccogliere migliaia di visualizzazioni sui social. Christopher Obritsch, programmatore semiamatoriale ed evidente appassionato di retro-gaming, stava giocando a Ghouls 'n Ghosts sul televisore di casa quando la figlia Madelyn rimase incantata dal primo mostro, la famigerata Statue of Terror, tanto da chiedere al padre di ripetere il livello più volte. Meravigliato da tanto coinvolgimento, Chris decise di creare un gioco che ricalcasse le medesime meccaniche del platform di Capcom e che avesse come protagonista la sua adorata primogenita. L'esperienza non gli mancava, infatti il suo curriculum annovera, nel 2014, il misconosciuto Insanity's Blade, altro platform retrò; a boccheggiare erano invece le finanze. Per portare avanti la sua idea istituì una campagna su Kickstarter che andò molto bene e raggiunse, infatti, circa il quadruplo rispetto ai 60.000 dollari canadesi richiesti. Il progetto Battle Princess Madelyn dopo aver spiccato il volo è ora pronto, in tutta la sua gloriosa bassa definizione per PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One e Switch (mentre le versioni per Vita e Wii U dovrebbero arrivare nel 2019).

Prima di iniziare la recensione è doveroso fare un passo indietro, in particolare nel 1985 quando uscì per cabinati Ghosts 'n Goblins, un platform prodotto da Capcom che venne successivamente convertito per una moltitudine di piattaforme tra cui ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 a Atari ST. Il seguito, il sopraccitato Ghouls 'n Ghosts (1988), conobbe un notevole successo commerciale tanto da dare vita a uno spin-off per Game Boy (Gargoyle's Quest, 1990) e a un apprezzatissimo Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts per Super Nintendo nel 1991. In questa saga il giocatore prende il controllo del cavaliere Arthur e deve muoversi tra livelli popolati da scheletri, zombie e numerosi altri tipi di mostri, per salvare la principessa Prin Prin e il suo regno dalle zampone del perfido Lucifero. La serie prosegue tra alti e bassi sino a una decina d'anni fa, quando uscirono due episodi di Gold Knights per iOS, ma ormai il mondo si era evoluto e l'appeal dei titoli bidimensionali era completamente scemato.

Battle Princess Madelyn parte da un punto di vista un po' diverso (del resto la protagonista, nonostante le perplessità della piccola Maddy, è una ragazza), ma alla fine il compito è lo stesso: sconfiggere un perfido mago malvagio che ha rapito la famiglia della principessa e ne ha ucciso il cane Fritz, che si era lanciato in difesa dei padroni. Se siete prossimi alla quarantina le meccaniche di gioco non dovrebbero affatto stupirvi e anzi, vi sembrerà di aver reinserito la cartuccia nello SNES. Madelyn inizia protetta da una semplice vestaglia e con la sola possibilità di fare piccoli salti; è armata di una lancia adatta a malapena a far fuori qualche pianta carnivora o qualche scheletro ed è accompagnata dalla guardia del corpo. Dopo un quarto d'ora passato a saltare e a "blastare" (ve lo eravate dimenticato, dite la verità) nemici si entra nella sala del primo boss, uno scheletrone tutto sommato abbastanza facile.

Tutto questo accade selezionando lo story mode: è quello probabilmente più interessante perché è arricchito di quest secondarie date da personaggi non giocanti il cui completamento viene ricompensato con dei gadget; c'è inoltre un fabbro che può potenziare le armi di Maddy. In questa variante ci sono degli influssi da metroidvania: alcune zone inizialmente non sono accessibili, ma solo dopo aver ottenuto apposite abilità o chiavi. In aggiunta, la difficoltà è più bassa rispetto alla versione arcade che presenta dei livelli più "compressi" da completare semplicemente proseguendo dalla sinistra verso la destra dello schermo. Qui la principessa parte subito senza limitazioni e incontra nemici più numerosi e ostici.

Coordinazione ed esplorazione sono le due chiavi di lettura ogni platform che si rispetti, e Battle Princess Madelyn non fa eccezione. La principessa può essere "toccata" una sola volta dai mostri, e in quel caso viene respinta e per qualche istante resta invulnerabile; un ulteriore contatto però le fa perdere una delle quattro vite con cui si comincia il gioco. Una volta azzerato il contatore si riparte dall'ultimo checkpoint avendo però preservato gli eventuali oggetti che si sono raccolti precedentemente (nella modalità storia). Il livello di sfida è elevato a causa di un continuo respawn dei nemici e di salti da eseguire al millimetro per riuscire a raggiungere con successo la piattaforma adiacente. I movimenti sono resi ancor più complicati dalla presenza di trappole e trabocchetti che richiedono ottimi riflessi e una notevole padronanza delle proprie reazioni. Inoltre, spesso e volentieri, si muore solo per cercare di scoprire la struttura del livello, dove naturalmente abbondano passaggi segreti e zone che si riescono a raggiungere con la rigida pratica del trial and error. C'è una buona varietà di mostri, ciascuno col proprio comportamento e livello di salute: alcuni attaccano dal basso, altri da posizioni più elevate, altri ancora compaiono alle spalle del giocatore. L'apice si raggiunge nello scontro con i boss finali che, come nella migliore tradizione, si possono sconfiggere solo conoscendone il punto debole. Per farli fuori Madelyn può affidarsi ad armi man mano più potenti e a un'armatura che si impreziosisce nella prosecuzione della storia, oltre ovviamente che del cane Fritzy, che può essere sguinzagliato come fosse una mossa speciale. Nello story mode si può scegliere quale strumenti offensivi usare, cambiandoli anche durante il combattimento, mentre nella modalità arcade si può impugnare solo un'arma alla volta.

Se fosse uscito nel '92 il titolo di Casual Bit Games sarebbe stato una killer application per le console a 16 bit, ma anche oggi riesce a fare la sua sporca figura. Certo, bisogna scendere a patti con una pixel art che risulta sanguinosa soprattutto sui monitor 2K e UHD (in questi casi consigliamo di giocarlo in finestra, magari a 1280x720), ma che è impreziosita da una serie di effetti che all'epoca sarebbero stati difficilmente implementabili, come i riflessi sull'acqua, gli alberi che si muovono, la pioggia che imperversa. I fondali sono stati realizzati con grande attenzione per i dettagli e anche i nemici sono ottimamente caratterizzati. L'impianto audio è di ottima fattura: merita una menzione in particolare la colonna sonora, che è possibile attivare sia in modalità orchestrale sia in stile midi. La longevità è valida: lo story mode vi terrà impegnati per almeno una decina di ore, ma preparatevi a momenti di frustrazione legati soprattutto al sistema di controllo e a un livello di difficoltà inconsueto per gli standard attuali. Noi abbiamo usato il joypad di Xbox 360 per Windows, ma l'ideale sarebbe avere quello dello Super Nintendo o del Mega Drive.

Si buscas un juego como Ghost'n Goblins con una heroína, pues, ya tienen una mejor idea de lo que el juego te ofrece... por lo que te puede gustar mucho o te puede frustrar mucho, debido a su dificultad.

Este juego te ofrece un modo Arcade de plataformas en 2D, con bellos gráficos a la antigua.
Tiene también el modo Historia, que se juega como un Metroidvania, pero con algunas limitaciones.

Es un buen juego aunque no cualquier persona lo puede disfrutar, están advertidos.

Antes de nada, debo dejar claro que toda esta reseña es para el modo Arcade, ya que es el único modo que he jugado, y lo he hecho hasta completarlo con un "crédito".

He leído muchas opiniones diciendo que el juego es demasiado difícil, que es muy frustrante, y que está mal diseñado. Pero, sinceramente, no estoy de acuerdo. El modo Arcade es difícil, sí, pero no creo para nada que sea más difícil que la mayoría de los arcades del género. Dominarlo requiere práctica, paciencia, habilidad y memorización, pero una vez que lo dominas es una auténtica delicia jugarlo. En algunas ocasiones es verdad que puede llegar a ser algo frustrante cuando aún no lo dominas, especialmente porque al recibir un golpe es muy fácil caerse de la plataforma en la que estés y morir irremediablemente. Pero eso con la práctica se termina evitando en la mayoría de las ocasiones. En definitiva, un juego al más puro estilo arcade, incluida su dificultad, que a mi modo de ver es la perfecta.

Técnicamente, pues qué decir... el juego es ESPECTACULAR. Los gráficos son sencillamente preciosos, la música muy buena, y los efectos de sonido también. Desde luego no se puede pedir más en este aspecto.

Como aspectos negativos:
- Cuando tienes que saltar a un nivel que está más abajo de donde te encuentras, la cámara se mantiene demasiado arriba y como resultado no ves dónde vas a caer. Esto sucede en dos o tres ocasiones a lo largo del juego, pero podría haberse evitado este inconveniente, la verdad.
- Al principio puede resultar un poco lioso el hecho de que no se sabe a veces muy bien cuáles son las plataformas sólidas y cuáles no. Pero es algo que con un poco de práctica se soluciona pronto.
- También es un poco lioso al principio el cambio de arma, ya que no se ven muy bien cuando están en el suelo y a veces te encuentras con que de repente has cogido una que no vale para nada. Por suerte puedes volver a coger la que tenías antes, ya que al coger un arma se suelta la que se tenga en ese momento, y permanecerá en el suelo unos segundos antes de desaparecer.

En fin, que si te gustan los juegos arcades de plataformas, y especialmente del estilo Ghosts'n Goblins / Ghost'n Ghosts, pues no lo dudes más, hazte con este juego porque te va a encantar. TOTALMENTE RECOMENDABLE. Eso sí, si eres el típico niñato que sólo juega a juegos 3D y al que los arcades le parecen una porquería y muy difíciles, pues entonces pasa de este juego y dedícate al Minecraft o mier-das similares. No sabrías apreciar un juego como éste...

This game is absolutely excellent! As a huge Ghouls n Ghosts fan (and Ghosts n Goblins by proxy) this really lives up to its inspiration and even surpasses it in some ways. I've actually found this a bit more challenging than the GnG games, but I think that's because I've had so much practice with those over the years. I'm just used to everything they throw at me. I haven't played this enough to learn every little thing. I've got low hours on this on Steam, but that's because I play it more on the Switch. If you like this style of game, I can highly recommend this.

影響を受けた「魔界村」や「ブラックドラゴン」が好きでアーケードモードを目当てに購入し、アーケードモードをクリアした時点のレビューです。
ゲームのアーティスティックな部分、グラフィックや音楽は素晴らしいものでしたがそれ以外のステージの設計や視界などゲームに必要なものはまるでだめな作品と感じました。

まずゲームのルールから雑で、残機がないかわりに敵を倒した際に得られる霊魂のようなゲージを消費して復活します。
このゲージは溜め攻撃を使う際にも消費し、一種のメガクラッシュのようなものなのですがメガクラッシュとは比較にならないほど性能がわるくリスクに対するリターンを適切に設定できていません。

また、すべての敵が霊魂を落とすため敵は危険な存在でありながら残機を回復させるためのリソースでもあるわけですが、そうであるがために後半ステージでは難易度を上げるためか即死トラップに落とすために敵がわずかに配置されるという形になっていきます。

武器と鎧に関してはザコ敵が無限湧きする場所でランダムに入手できるのですが、上記の残機リソースとの兼ね合いか中盤ステージ以降無限湧きポイントがなくなり、武器の変更や鎧の獲得が可能なシーンもなくなります。

次にステージデザインも単調で、危険な足場やギミックの向こう岸に弓兵が配置されていてその間に有象無象が出てくる、それの繰り返しになっています。
序盤のステージこそ魔界村やブラックドラゴンを彷彿とさせるべく似せてありますが後半は穴、棘、弓です。

ステージの問題点を続けると、上下に幅のある場面では下側にカメラを移す方法が用意されていないため初めての飛び降りにリスクを背負わされます。
そういった場所ではカメラはキャラクターに追随するのですが、カメラの移動がキャラクターの移動速度と同じなのでジャンプするだけでそれなりの速さで画面が揺れることになります。

武器は種類が多くパワーアップで性能も変化しますが、敵の配置が減っていくうえにだいたい全部横に高速で攻撃できるタイプなので何を選んでも大して変わらない。

以上の理由でゲーム部分が面白く感じられないためアーケードモードを期待するアーケードゲーム好きにはおすすめしません。
特に影響を受けているであろうタイトルをやり込んだ人には物足りない作品であることは間違いないと思います。

80분 정도 플레이 해 봤는데, 일단.. 재미가 없습니다.

게임을 해보면 갑옷 상태에서 1대 맞으면 잠옷 상태가 되고, 2대 맞으면 쓰러져서 죽는데, 이걸 3번 죽으면, 스테이지 처음에서 시작합니다. 무조건 6대 맞으면 그 장소에서 다시 시작이라 난이도 자체는 관대하다고 볼 수 있지만.. 문제는 6대 맞으면 게임오버라는 기준을 전제로 모든 맵이 구성되어 있어서, 긴장감이 별로 없어요. 죽어가면서 통과하면 그만이기 때문에 공략하는 재미가 없습니다. 필드는 물론이고 보스전도 그렇습니다.

적을 잡으면 돈이랑 보석을 모을수 있는데, 이걸 아이템으로 바꿀만한 상점이 부재합니다. (초반부 2~3군데만 진행해서 발견 못한 걸수도 있지만.. 만약에 뒤에도 없다면 이건 심각한 문제임.) 상점이 없다는건, 게임의 동기가 되는 요소가 부족하다는 이야기도 됩니다.

물론 수집 요소로 왕궁의 주인공 방에 가면 인형 콜렉션들이 있긴 하지만, 이것도 돈이나 아이템으로 교환이 아니라 특수한 조건을 만족시키는 것이라 가뜩이나 긴장감 없는 게임에서 귀찮음을 유발합니다.

그리고 쓸데없는 대화가 너무 많습니다. NPC와의 대화는 빠짐없이 해야 메인 이벤트가 진행되고, 서브 이벤트도 진행하려면, 메뉴에 있는 퀘스트 설명을 일일이 읽어야 되는데다 그걸 하기 위해 맵을 뱅뱅 돌도록 만들어 놓아서 많이 수고롭습니다.

여러가지 요소가 게임을 굉장히 지루하고 루즈하게 만듭니다.
마계촌처럼 액션에 중점을 둔 게임이었으면 괜찮은 게임일수도 있었을텐데..

이걸 끝까지 플레이 하느니, 마계촌 콜렉션을 사서 즐기는게 더 나을거 같습니다.

Battle princess madelyn is a fantasy action game, just for the soundtrack you already must have this game, the music is amazing in this game, reminds me the good times I had listening "undertale" musics, that game is so good I can easy place by the side of my favorite fantasy action game, that is definitely not "volgarr", hmm I have played some more, it have some flaws, main menu animation is unskipable and the loot in the game are all rng based, which means the game can be unbalanced some times, because some of the armor and weapons have different values to damage and range, there is also story mode, that I have played once, and it is a complete different game with quests and interative npcs.

Этакий Ghost'n'goblins с исследованием. Вот только исследование тут явно лишнее, ибо нагоняет тоску. Сайд квесты ужасные: найди предмет, найди пропавшего мальчика/товарища. И можно было бы на эти квесты забить, если бы не одно НО: за один из них дают ключ к сюжетному боссу! Крайне идиотское решение.
Кроме того некоторые задания, видать, сломаны: что-то может неправильно отображаться в списке квестов, что-то вообще непонятно как работает (для примера: после прохождения игры у меня остался квест на убийство доп. босса, вот только этот квест принимать никто не хочет; зато есть НПС, который говорит, что я так и не нашёл его товарища, хотя в списке заданий у меня такого нет!)
Итог: графика норм, музыка хорошая, геймплей совсем скучный (во всяком случае в режиме истории, аркадный запускать уже нет желания).

Очень перемудренные уровни. Длинные, пустые, с пустыми ответвлениями, с бесполезными срезками. И это сегодня ещё карта есть, а как раньше люди ориентировались, не представляю. Да, ещё тут секретные стены, в которых лежат предметы для сайдквестов. Некоторые помечены, некоторые нет.
Вся эта прелесть перегружена совершенно идиотской механикой ключей, которые нужно вымаливать у статуй, чтобы открыть дверь. Иногда они не работают. Ну и ещё сайдквесты есть, с отвратительными описаниями, когда даже непонятно, кто и в какой деревне попросил тебя найти очередного мальчика. В награду обычно дают куклы, которые совершенно бесполезны.
К чему это всё меня привело? Я не могу открыть дверь к сюжетному боссу, хотя ключ босса из статуи я выбил. На форумах пишут, что это не тот ключ, что нужен специальный ключ, который выдаст охранник за спасение мальчика в пещерах. Я не особо понимаю, зачем тогда собирать ключи для боссов в одну стопку, если для каждой двери нужен свой, и почему за эти идиотские сайды дают сюжетные предметы, ну ладно. Прикол в том, что мальчика я спас до того, как получить квест, и по новой этот мальчик не появляется, так что теорию проверить не получится.
На этом всё.
Визуальный стиль очень приятный, взят из Гхостс-н-гоблинс, множество отсылок. Игра при этом гораздо [strike]проще[/strike] дружелюбнее.
Если бы авторы не выеживались, пытаясь воткнуть открытый мир в игру, где он не нужен, был бы очень приятный платформер.
Пока что он сделан не туда, и если авторам не хватит яиц выкинуть карты и весь этот приоткрытый мир на помойку и перерисовать всю игру - играть в неё не рекомендую.

I never could beat Super GnG, so I thought this would be too hard for me, but I gave it a chance and it feels pretty fair. I do like that I can keep respawning as long as I kill monsters. The backstory behind the creation of this game is what really drew me in though, kick some butt Maddi!

一款2D横卷像素游戏，应该是讲述了一个作死的公主为了狗命讨伐大魔王的故事。
先说下缺点，小怪重复出现，就4页的背包杂乱，缺少新手引导教程，A是切换武器，S我看不懂是干嘛的，X是攻击，Z是跳跃，上下左右
一不小心点开制作者名单就呵呵了 esc键没用只能一直点z键耐心观看完一堆英文名字。。。糟心地图很大那些图标根本看不清楚很容易迷路，感叹号npc会重复对话，接了任务不知道如何查看，伤害机制不完善人物没有具体的生命值好像被打两下就没一条命

优点，难度适中，剧情丰富，怪物种类繁多（一开始的图鉴都是些什么鬼东西），隐藏门，游戏拥有故事模式和街机模式，打斗动作设计还算可以，只要灵力没用完前就不会真正的死亡

总之不能接受像素画风和杂乱大地图的手残勿入，有点类似于盐与避难所的画风，但又没那个游戏那么复杂那么好

补充一下我花了10个小时左右玩完（去年买的游戏今年才玩。。。）
国内根本没有一个人能完整的打完故事模式 b站找不到相关完整视频只有街机模式
以下是剧透内容：

[spoiler]一共10个关卡前面5个是一周目后面四个是二周目最终boss是最后一个隐藏关卡
boss一共有骷髅怪蜘蛛（二段跳的鞋子）双子巫师野猪树妖大螃蟹恶心蜘蛛（分别对应跃空机器人3个碎片，即二周目的时空机材料）大花猫邪恶男爵（剧情boss，送的）僵尸首领兔子博士（四个图分别对应四个灵魂符石）

三个隐藏boss（麦田地，俄罗斯高低山庄左侧，意大利上方）三个蜘蛛，对应的是三个不同的武器

最终boss 前三个小boss分别是骷髅怪大螃蟹树妖
本体是魔王和恶毒的女人 [/spoiler]

这款游戏的怪根本不难打，反而机关比怪厉害多了。还有就是难在NPC的支线寻找任务，你接了任务后，你会发现他们会要你去你探索过的地方，再找一次他们的同伴，奖励可能是钱或者收集品，如果你没有接受任务那任务npc就不会出现

缺点：1 npc支线任务没有再次暗示，npc的话只会说一次，如果你没有完成他们只会说你找到我的xxx了吗，没有别的tips，我真怀疑这是一款记忆游戏
2 绝望崖有bug，主线完成后再也不能坐船去右边，我收集就差最后一个玩偶了，我能去的地方都去过了，唯有绝望崖的右方没去，因为船不能过去，主线npc杰克没有二次反应
3 跳跳乐设定太为极限，不能失误，一旦失误你就得重新跳，一经碰撞你如果没有着地就是幽灵状态，不能操作
4 西班牙那个跳跳乐没有tips。我一开始坚信是需要学习三段跳。我个人翻遍国内网页和视频没有一个提及。最后还是在youtube找到的利用你在西班牙暗道找到的武器踩着幽灵二次跳跃（绝了）

优点：加入了三个修改（无限魔力，？，神装赠送）然后后期的npc好多送武器的，根本不用去找铁匠升级锻造装备

加入了简体中文和窗口设定

总结，难度适中，但是关卡偏少，建议打折的时候买。还有希望赶紧修复绝望崖的杰克无法渡船bug。好让我100%收集（就差一个收集品真的是气死人）

장점은 조작감과 그래픽
나머지는 모두 나가리 입니다.
인코딩이 잘못된상태로 발매라도 한듯, 소리가 비어도 너무 비어있어서 안타까울따름.
아케이드 모드는 트레일러에서 짐작했던대로 마계촌 스타일의 게임인데, 돈받고 파는 마계촌 스타일 게임중 역대 최고로 몰입이 안되는 게임입니다. 마계촌 찾는 사람이면 몸쪽 꽉찬 돌직구와 변화구가 사정없이 몰아치는 그 느낌을 기대할텐데, 그런거 없습니다.
스토리 모드는 마계촌과 메트로이드를 섞어보려는 시도를 한것같은데, 이게 아마도 이 게임이 가지는 의의일거같네요. 예상밖의 물건이라 스토리 모드는 천천히 즐겨보고 판단하겠으나, 현재로선 야 이거 사라 하고 추천하지 않겠습니다.

EDIT - devs added two new modes - A boss rush mode, and a " daddy" mode -

First off, I wanna say this is a damn good Super Ghouls and Ghosts homage, one of the best I've seen since the SNES classic came out of arcades.
The graphics are crisp and clean ( with optional CRT filter )
There's two soundtracks for those interested ( arcade, and orchestra )
And, two modes : Story Mode, and Arcade. * Plus Boss Rush, and Daddy Mode *

If you want Super G&G action - play Arcade - you start off with the double jump, enemies with sacks drop new weps, and armor upgrades ( which, just like G&G improve your weapons ) You play through each level, and then a boss.
Unlimited continues - but no save feature - so you need to hunker down and complete the whole thing in one sitting. A bit of a slog, the levels can be tedious and the bosses can be difficult to stop.

The Story mode is completely different, with you starting off with only a spear, regular armor, and nothing else.
You earn new weps from completing sidequests, kneeling at statues and ghosts, and other assorted means.
You don't lose your weps in story mode, you can cycle through them whenever, so no getting upset you grabbed the torch ~
You also gain magical abilities for your doggy ghost, of which you can also toggle between a few of them.
I did not see any different magic attacks in Arcade mode, you just get the one, it seems.

There's a meter in the top right to let you know how much magic power you have, it refills upon killing enemies - and if you die, your dog will revive you with basic armor on for a chunk of the magic meter. You can also use the magic as attacks - so you need to find a good balance if you wanna get revived.

The bosses were pretty good, in Arcade mode you can steam roll em fast if you get the right gear ( and starting with double jump makes things quicker, too )
In Story mode, the first boss was actually a bit harder, since you can't hit it by double jumping. Nice balance, imo.

The devs also went out of their way to replace the hard-to-read font in the game, and it is 150% better now, even with CRT filter on, you can clearly read everything. That's the only thing that was keeping me from playing Story mode, as the text takes up a good portion of your playtime - and being able to read it is kinda helpful, lol.

Loving this game, especially after the improvements to it.
Given how much content the game offers across the two modes, the price is more than worth it.

Highly recommended to anyone that enjoyed super ghouls and ghosts, or just enjoys good arcade platformers with fun boss fights and level designs.
( when I said it takes from SG&G I meant it, stage 3 is literally a ghost pirate ship )

I originally played this on the Switch which was awesome. Just downloaded for Steam to test out the new updates and it's phenomenal. The visuals are mesmerizing, the array of monsters and their attacks are spot on, this game is everything you didn't even know you needed in your life. Not to even mention the music, it's just outstanding. Don't wait, get it! I absolutely recommend it.

“Divertido y desafiante” pueden ser los adjetivos que mejor definen la experiencia que ofrece Battle Princess Madelyn. Juegos como este son los ideales para introducir a las nuevas generaciones a los videojuegos de otras épocas, dada a su belleza visual y excelencia en los controles. Es posible que los desarrolladores hagan futuras actualizaciones para agregarle contenido, pulir ciertas aristas que están algo rugosas y darle una diferencia más sustancial entre los dos modos. Se puede saborear la posibilidad de romper el joystick o el teclado al no poder pasar cierta parte, pero la satisfacción de hacerlo es la mejor recompensa.

i beta tested this game, and now buying the full piece is like completing a set to me. this Game is AWESOME. i can't understand the reviews here that complain about it, this is the perfect homage to the original hard-mode games like ghosts and goblins. seriously, don't pass this game up there is some awesome gaming to be had here, and if you're a completionist like me, and a secret hunter, this game is for you. so far i've had happy accidents finding the super armor, and the different weapons. the dev's of this game are epic as well, and i had a great time conversing with them during beta because they listened to each and every suggestion i personally had, and considering them to great fruition. thanks again to the Devs for bringing in us beta testers, and thank you for releasing an epic game!

This is a retro style game that is an ode to the classic Ghouls ‘n Ghosts. They did a great job of re-creating the feel of that Genesis classic. However, In this game you play as a girl warrior princess instead of king arthur in the Capcom classic.

You can make the game look more retro with some of the graphics options as well as the music too. Both are well done. The combat in this game is really fun, the bosses are difficult and you feel like you accomplished something when you defeat them.

The game is very difficult, so some people might be turned off by that, but I feel that is how retro games were back then and so when I see a challenging modern classic like this, I just remember playing games on SNES and Genesis and dying 176 times in a row and coming back at it and say "Yes this game is a true successor to the classics."

说一下我迄今为止发现的BUG：
1.从高处跳下后会有概率保持跳跃动作不变，此时无法进行任何攻击，解决方法是爬上梯子改变模型动作。
2.海底关第一次下沉向左边走找宝珠的地方有两个海绵只要靠近就会无限吐泡泡，如果攻击宝珠后向右跑得太快可能会被箱子带上去，此时再想回去打宝珠的话，恭喜你，你会发现两个狂射的海绵体堵住了你的去路。
3.背对螃蟹门口引诱美人鱼攻击，带着硬直进入BOSS房会卡无敌帧。
4.从黑猫BOSS房出来后第一个雪人会有概率不间断吐雪球，你就会发现一大串雪球像冰糖葫芦一样像你滚来，但问题不是很严重，因为吐到一定程度会停下。
5.德国森林里有的小怪刷新点会时不时的无限刷怪，不间断连续刷新的那种，你能想象那种看着一群垃圾骷髅向你涌来还不能不砍，如果不砍就会铺得满地都是的那种情景么？
6.重点来了，这是我到现在进度遇到的最恶心也是最无解的问题，而且是之前从未出现过的：不能切界面！！！！！
这个问题只出现在我进度打到进入德国森林之后，一旦最小化界面游戏立刻就崩溃，最恶心人的是还关不掉，无论是管理员权限还是任务管理器都TM关不掉！而且甚至会遮挡我的鼠标！只能重启！这种情况在我打之前篇章时完全没有过，就发生在我先进入了西班牙，打了一半又退回了德国森林之后。

我甚至都没通关就遇到了这么多的恶性BUG，制作团队真的有用心测试过么？这种程度怎么能被称为《魔界村》精神续作？知道《信使》吗，那才叫ACT界的标杆制作，真正配称为《忍龙》精神续作。然而这游戏卖得跟《信使》一个价钱，质量却完全比不上。

另外关卡做得这么长倒无所谓，但为什么连个指路的小地图都没有，就是各种摸路走，支线任务也完全没有任务提示，什么任务接了什么任务没接，接过的任务去哪找完全就是两眼一抹黑，难道还要我在接任务时自己做笔记吗？

Whole lot of love and family tributes here so I'll start off with the bad before I get into the good.

Story mode has you work for your double jump (not immediately available), so the first boss isn't exactly obvious to know when the legs hurt you or are safe to walk into (clue wait for sword attack). Sometimes you'll have to leap of faith too given things aren't always clear.

Also, the pray needs you to crouch for 3-4 seconds before a possible reaction happens from a grave/statue. It also takes some time for the title screen to load in that it's a block and it slowly breaks into the title.

Now with the good: I do like how this tributes things very well, from the "Grampy" RIP and the fact the daughter character, Madelyn was a tribute by the father. Fritz, the pet dog's ghost, who helps you by extra lives (with an MP system so you have to be careful) as well as the fact that you die without having to restart a level is very helpful as you can get stuck sometimes.

I also like cycling weapons and this auto saves very well, though you have only 1 save. Gameplay is similar to Ghosts 'n Goblins but a lot more forgiving given you save/respawn right before a boss when you die (you respawn mid-battle with a cool lightning effect that can kill minions) and run out of lives.

1，绝望崖杰克帮你升起帆船过河，这里你不能死，死了船就没了你再也过去不河，杰克也不会再理你

2，农田区救小孩的任务不刷怪只能重启，这个根本就没法全收集了。

说完BUG说下建议

1，任务指引能否明确？
2，能不能加个地图？，在大地图根本就容易迷路，然后有的怪贼恶心，一下就把你弄死又要重新来。

总之致敬魔界村嘛，这个游戏还是不错的，总体来说还是给予好评，希望越做越好.

This is a tentative recommendation. It's a promising game that suffered from flaws which have largely been resolved. I mainly played the story mode, so take this as a review of that specifically.

Let's start with the good: Excellent pixel graphics on par with the mid-late SNES era. The devs cite Ghouls n' Ghosts as an inspiration, and it's littered with similarities.

The story is a by-the-numbers Hero's Journey about a warrior princess who has to save her family, kill the monsters plaguing her kingdom, and avenge the death of her dog. There's a strong family theme, and a dark-saccharine tone throughout the story mode in which NPCs often die, but always either return as a ghost or inhabit a new vessel, with the most prominent example being the heroine's own dog, whose ghost follows her everywhere and persistently makes himself useful.

The controls are tight, and you're able to make precise jumps and movements to platform and avoid enemies and projectiles without any mechanical hiccups getting in the way. There's nothing to complain about in that regard.

The bad: All major issues with this game stem from one source, which is the camera, relative to the size and layout of stages. Oftentimes there just isn't enough information on your screen to know what's going on, especially when you need to advance downward, which is often required. The camera will never change its fixed orientation of keeping the protagonist in the horizontal center near the bottom of the screen. This, coupled with the design of many stages results in many instances of 'leap of faith' gameplay and tediously wearing down enemies beneath you because your projectiles vanish as soon as they reach the edge of the screen. Granted this close zoom enables the player to better absorb the nice-looking 2D sprites and environments, but an option to zoom the camera out, shift its orientation to the player character, or even an Odin Sphere-style simplified map with the edge of the screen no longer being an impenetrable barrier through which no projectile may pass would improve gameplay immensely.

In conclusion: Flawed, but definitely worth a playthrough, especially if 2D eye candy is your thing. The gameplay is difficult and fun, and you'll get many hours out of its different modes and New Game+ feature.
