Poor squire dreams to attend and conquer kingdom jousting tournament. By being poor, he can't afford a horse. Unicycle happens to be close enough, so the epic journey may begin! Use your controller, or keyboard to balance the clumsy, but fully functional one-wheeler unicycle. Thrust with your sharpened lance, when encountering threats from local mythical monsters. Понравилась рисовка, и геймплей мне такой нравится, люблю игры типо трайлс и гравитидефайнд.
Не понравилось расположение чекпойнтов слишком люто это все. Музыка тоже на мозги капает.
Еще чисто личная придирка, это то что нет нормальной вертикальной обложке для библиотеки, я конечно сам ее сделал, но осадочек остался. Рекомендую всем любителям хардкора)

Developers had a great idea and the game has potential when it comes to unique concepts. On paper this feels like another fun game for all the masochists out there. But unfortunately, unlike other similar games, this one missed a mark for me and it falls completely flat. At places it tries to be quirky and funny but it just doesn't really land. Some mechanics are completely unnecessary and make the game random and not fun at all (girl throwing potatoes). But the worst part are the janky controls. Again, unlike other games from this genre, some controls just don't feel consistent at all which is a huge problem when you try to make an already hard game. Sometimes you get yeeted across half the map and sometimes you cannot jump over a pothole. These janky controls become especially annoying when you interact with moving objects where it was either overlooked or just straight up made to be annoying but if you hit a moving fish from the side you literally lose all ability to control your character and he just randomly swings around until you inevitably hit something and die. Interactions with the floating fish also feel a bit weird at times.
But not everything is all that bad. Visuals are really unique and look pretty good. Although some controls feel random you can generally control your character pretty well and with a bit of time (the learning curve is not that crazy) you can get fairly good. That becomes clear especially when you almost finish the game and return to the first levels. Other than that I don't really recommend this game. There are plenty other similar games that feel way more rewarding and fun.

Balancelot is one of those awful mobile-esque games where the game content itself is irrelevant, because the game revolves completely around wrestling with a deliberately awkward control scheme. These games never go well and Balancelot is no exception to the rule here.. it's not fun to play, on purpose, and gamers generally shun this kind of game because of that. They certainly succeeded in making an un-fun game.

The theme is medieval unicycles, which is also a terrible idea, so at least there's symmetry with the overall game concept. It doesn't actually model the physics of unicycles, though, you just move left or right and this of course makes you topple, so you use the arrow keys to adjust your balance, and that, right there, is 100% of the game. Wake up, I know it's boring, but I'm serious, because they actually want to get paid for dumping this on Steam.

It's a Nintendo Switch game, of course, although I think this would have gone on better on the app stores... the gameplay itself is shallower than Angry Birds, so you can see why as a PC gamer this kind of thing just comes across as valueless. Heck, this could even be a browser/flash game... it has all the same low quality.

On the upside, the game does feature customisable controls and resolution, so at least some of the basic, minimum requirements have been met. Unfortunately there's a number of other technical defects and shortcomings which contribute to the game being difficult to recommend to gamers.

The game is comprised of somewhat mediocre hand drawn 2D illustrations instead of professional looking 3D game assets. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget to arrange someone who can create graphical assets properly, or lack of talent. Regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is very low, beneath what PC gamers have come to expect in this era of cutting edge photorealistic 3D graphics. At least it's not pixel "art", but if you're looking for contemporary, immersive visuals, this game is a fail.

While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals.

Because this is designed for handheld/portable gaming appliances, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the low power handheld gaming appliances that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate compromises and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was a second thought for the mobile game developers. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for low power handhelds forces upon a game. While this might run well on a Steam Deck, we must remember the vast majority of gamers here are gaming on PC.

This looks and feels like a mobile app, but I wasn't able to find it on the app stores. Maybe it was removed, maybe it was rejected by Apple and Google (they do have more rigorous quality standards than Valve does for Steam, after all).

Regardless, for all intents and purposes Balancelot might as well be a mobile app, it has the same limitations and dumbed down qualities. It's impossible to recommend such a game to PC gamers. We don't spend all this money building gaming rigs so we can pretend they're iPhones and play games that might as well be mobile apps.

These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.

Balancelot didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for reaching a new "Personal Best Time", trivial to get, but less than 17 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game.

The game never really caught on with the millions of gamers on Steam, with a very low peak player count close to launch, and then just a handful of players launching this game every couple of days. This is undoubtedly caused by factors such as those raised in this review. It's always helpful with buying decisions to consider how popular and successful the product is, and unfortunately while this did accumulate a few participation trophy reviews, overall, people just aren't using it.

So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?

Balancelot has the far too high price of around $8 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam. Because this is the kind of game you can just play for free on mobile phones, it's impossible to recommend anyone should pay money for the same experience on Steam. For comparison, the $8 asking price for this game could get you games like "Dishonored", "Don't Starve Together" or "Euro Truck Simulator 2". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.

Really enjoyable awkward control sim. Controls feels great and the levels are varied and well made. My only real complaint is the difficulty curve is all over the place, but the game is a solid recommend regardless!

Notes: Pretty fun awkward control sim platformer. The mechanics aren't that difficult but the character control is just strange enough to make it a feel like a fresh experience. There is definitely some jank with the physics and that makes the game slightly more frustrating than it otherwise should be at times, but overall it's a fun playthrough. My biggest complaint is that the final level when going for the deathless achievement is pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Herausfordernd, motivierend und gut gemacht. Grafik, Gameplay und Sound auch stimmig. Macht richtig Spaß! Wer Trials mochte wird hierbei auch Spaß haben.

You enjoy pain, I get it. But this game is so damn difficult that there is BDSM type of problem if you'd tell somebody to buy it. I'm that guy. I only recommend this game because; (1) I got it with spare change and (2) if I ever finish this it is going to be glorious. Plus, it's not a bad game (looks good, controls are good) but the difficulty is something out of this world.

If "Getting Over It" has taught me anything it's that sometimes the game is not the level but rather the controls. The platforms and enemies are simple; it's learning how to control the unicycle that is the actual game. How do I get forward momentum? How do I jump forwards/backwards? How do I duck under an apple on a rope? Oh, when a platform moves, my unicycle stays in place?

All things little things build up in your muscle memory until you stop looking at the game with an expectation of IRL physics. Then the game becomes... Well I put it my "short fun" steam folder. It's like how I use to treat flash games in the early 2000s.

This game is really, really, REALLY, difficult, so don't be fooled by the cute graphics and the "I look like a fun mobile game" aspect of it. If you like self-torture, you'll love this game. Level 1-1 is like the last level in Geometry Dash without the cool music. I don't want to give it a thumbs down without playing it a little further, but man, it's not fun when it's this frustrating. There is a demo so by all means DO try it before buying it (you'll know what the game is truly about). You'll probably a love it or hate it. I got it for free so I can't complain, but it's not for me. It's not bad, but I don't think I'll play more than the first levels.

Let it be known, there are probably multiple unicycle, jousting, medieval-themed, balancing, side-scrolling games out there, and this one takes the honey cake.

There are spaces for companies to advertise in this game, which I think is awesome; however, I also think if they get advertisers, they should reduce the price of the game during that time period. Seems like a solid trade-off, that fits the model of in-game advertising.

Side-scrolling combat, sort of. You're a jousting wannabe, but you can't afford a horse, so you and your lance are on a unicycle. You have left and right control for tilt, and left and right control for wheel movement; you need to keep yourself balanced by compensating for movement with tilt as you roll your way over varying terrain.

...I didn't get very far.

I see another review is titled, "Challenging game for masochists." I don't think this is my preferred slap-and-tickle.

I am not especially great at hard platformer games but this one had just the write amount of difficulty to be challenging. I died hundreds of times, but there are checkpoints quite often and when I went back to the beginning after almost finishing the game, it was rewarding to see how much I improved.

I got this via a bundle, not sure I'd buy it as a standalone game, but it was definitely worth it for me this way.

You play a man who's gotten so widely drunk that he decided that he'd go combat his imaginary creatures. It sounds fun in theory, but in practice it's horrible done. You die every few seconds and the checkpoints are far too far apart. Every time you think that you've made some progress you inevitably pushed onto your back so that the game can tell you to do it all over again. If you find being shoved down over and over again fun, then this game might be for you.

Okay, okay: I got this in a humble bundle and thought I'd try it for giggles. But after some expected frustration - I've dibbled a bit in CWOP and 'getting over it with Kenneth Foddy' - I found myself genuinely enjoying myself. It's hard and takes about a gazzilion deaths to even make it to the next checkpoint, but there is some method to the madness. And when you finally overcome the obstacle, it feels like an accomplishment rather than the seemingly randomness of the earlier mentioned games.

I wouldn't go so far as calling it a great game. But for my buck, I can't say I'm dissatisfied at all. Of course the checkpoints and the gameplay mechanics (that lance prevents from falling over but hinders a lot as well...AND it's a weapon!) are good additions.
About the only major disadvantage is IMHO the music. It's forgettable at best but got on my nerves after some time. As for the gameplay...check the videos and decide for yourself whether this might be your thing...

I get it--it's like QWOP, or Getting Over It, intentionally awful control scheme makes fumbling through the frustration the point of the experience. But even if you can manage to balance the stupid man's stupid wheel, he waves around that janky f**king lance seemingly at random, adding another level of frustration-for-frustration's sake for no reason other than to aggravate the player. I hate this, and I pretty heavily dislike whoever decided to make this into a game and charge money for it.

[b]Daleko příjemnější zážitek, by byl kdyby vám nejošklivější žena na světě, dělala anální penetraci a u toho vám ještě říkala jak moc se jí to líbí, protože i to by bylo příjemnější než hrát tuhle mr*ku, která vás penetruje více než byste jen chtěli. [/b]

V této hře dokážete prohrát proti mnoha věcem, ale nejčastěji to ale bude: šnek, díra, obří dřevěná kláda, jablko, jablko na provaze, váše zasrané kopí nebo dokonce 6ti nohý zmutovaný kozel.

Po grafické stránce žádný zázrak, ale i přesto ta jednoduchá grafika má něco do sebe a naprosto nic jí neschází. Příběh je psán v low budget cutscénách, kteréž animace mi připomínají jako kdybych to dělal já na základní škole v PowerPointu, ale i tak jsou občas i celkově dosti pěkné. Hudbě bych naprosto nic nevytkl, k tomuhle typu hry, co dokázali vývojáři vymyslet, nemůže být více otravnější a naprosto tak perfektní hudba!

Věc která vás bude ale nejvíce mrdat do prdele, bude vaše zkurvené kolečko nebo-li vaše zkurvená kryplkára, samozřejmně, mohli jste si najít někde po cestě na ten turnaj koně, ale proč to dělat lehký, když můžete zažít tolik OPRAVDOVÉ zábavy kdy vám hra řekne, tak hele ty debílku teď jedeš na jednom kolečku, tak drž balance ty jedna zkurvená píčo.

Krom občasného rage, pár rozbitejch mezerníků a občasného se zasmání s kamarády je tato hra naprosto perfektní.

I enjoyed the base game quite a bit. It can be frustrating (which is kind of the point) but I did one level a day and the game was really enjoyable. I must say however that the free DLC released for Halloween isn't very fun. The upside stick floor mechanics were over-the-top frustrating for me. What formally felt like a game of extreme skill played more like a game of chance with the DLC. Then again, it is free.

Seriously guys, QWOP and "Getting over it with bennett foddy" weren't enough ?
At least it's separated in levels with checkpoints.
I once failed so hard in "Getting over it" that I lost 3 hours of progress. With a total of 6 hours playtime...

Negative reviews about the controls in a game DESIGNED to have frustrating controls are childish.

That being said, the game is in the "rage inducing" category. one small mistep and your done for, and the controls are very sensitive.

This kind of game is not for me, but for the folks that either like to be mad, or like a hard challenge, then this is the game for you. I will recommend it for those types of people.

For me this game is a nope.

The controls are not what i would call good. they need better key placement.
The Balancing act you do in this game just drives me crazy.
Just in the first level to pass i died way to many times trying to learn this game...

Music is ok for like the first 5 minutes then it just bores you to death...

As one other reviewer said this is a masochist challenge kind of game.

Balancelot is another entry in the "bad controls" genre and unfortunately, does little to separate itself from the pack. It has fairly standard platforming and physics, as well as decent level design. The levels are usually very challenging but don't feel impossible. The platforming tends to feel random, due to the lance being extremely difficult to control. Oftentimes you will get it caught on a box and end up dying, simply because the lance happened to point downward. The enemies feel tacked on and aren't very interesting. Overall, the game doesn't have any huge positives or negatives. Fans of the genre will probably enjoy it quite a bit, so for that, I recommend it. For anyone who isn't a fan of the genre, this style of game has been done before and done better.

Computer was well above minimum specs but still had issues with input lag and frame slow downs. This took the game and its overly sensitive controls from tedious to unplayable. Did not see any option to rebind inputs which would have not helped with the input lag, but would have gotten my hands out of the awful claw you have to make to play this game

Ты не пройдёшь! (с) Самая хардкорная игра в моей жизни. А я-то еще горжусь хожу, что в свое время прошёл полностью Эластоманию. :) Оказывается Elasto Mania это так, казуальщина для домохозяек по сравнению с сабжем. Со сложностью они конечно, мягко скажем, переусердствовали. Многие уже дальше водных уровней не пройдут, а это еще даже не половина игры, у большинства же не хватит терпения и усидчивости даже до них дойти. Я уже молчу о том, что там будет дальше, дальше игра уже требует прохождения в стиле спидрана на грани невозможного, иначе либо скорости не хватит, чтобы допрыгнуть через препятствия, либо шальной камень успеет прилететь в голову и т.д.. Посему строго на любителя, хотя поугарать на начальных этапах можно и всем. Так-то сама идея, игра хорошая, с очень интересной и уникальной механикой, но вот сложность ради сложности не позволяет ее рекомендовать всем как например ту же "Trials Evolution", но для геймеров-мазохистов она вне конкуренции! :))

Balancelot is a game where you have to control a man (or a frog) on a unicycle - balancing him left/right while simultaneously moving and platforming your way through each level. I've not played a game like this before, and always shied away from these "gimmick" style games - however I can say this game has truly left an impression on me. The controls are great, the levels are really well designed and varied, the game lets you do so many wonky jumps and movements that allow you to make your own paths. It's extremely satisfying to see yourself start off failing miserably for 15 minutes on the easiest level of the game, and then being so familiar with the way the character moves , the physics and the controls that you can beat the last level (which is quite hard) and revisit the previous levels and crush them.

I would highly recommend this game to anyone who likes platformers. Balancelot puts a great spin on the genre and delivers an exciting experience.
