I just found this game really shallow... Below average puzzles, and awful controls. Story, music, and dialogues, miles below par.

Nostalgia strikes stronger each time I play this game. I wish they could bring Aura 2 to Steam as well ♥
Неплохой квест, цепляющий своей музыкой и атмосферой. Да и есть в этих старых играх - mystoподобных и phoenix vr - какая-то своя душа, к которой хочется прикоснуться еще спустя столько лет. И это чтото уже давно прошедшее, чего больше никогда не выйдет...
Как бы то ни было, в стиме только первая часть серии, второй в стиме нет, а третьей нет в принципе - поэтому после прохождения ощущение незавершенности все равно останется. Без прохождения играется не очень, как и все подобные игры, поэтому спокойно проходится за пару дождливых вечеров с чаем и руководством под рукой.
Однозначно стоит приобрести и пройти
If you enjoy early 2000 point & click adventures and this is on sale, just dive in. It's from an era which expected you to have a notepad and pen handy while you played, so it's a treasure from a dead era.
The negative reviews don't quite do Aura justice. It does have some rough edges, the story really is shallow, and there are a few moments which will make you say "why did they put this here?!". You will be sweeping your mouse around to find hotspots and fiddling around to find the travel markers.
But when Aura shines, it's really worth it. There's no moon logic. Sometimes you need to take a step back and view things a different way. Sometimes you need to look around for clues. Sometimes for items. Sometimes you missed something. But there is always a reasonable and satisfying answer to every puzzle.
Finally, some important, spoiler-free tips.
- The Esc key skips travel cutscenes (take your time and enjoy them, but after you've gone up and down the same staircase a few times, respect your time and skip them)
- Save often, after every puzzle or breakthrough. This is an old game: there are no autosaves, and there is at least one point where you may crash.
- When you're stuck, take a break from trying to break the puzzle and look around. There will be routes you overlooked and items you may have missed.
- Pace yourself. If you try to finish this in one sitting, you'll frustrate yourself and give up. Tomorrow you'll see something you didn't before.
- Take notes, play detective. Either get yourself a notepad and pen or use the Steam notepad in the shift-tab overlay. It's absolutely vital for some parts of the game to keep track of the solution you're building. You'll also have a fun document to read over again to see your thought process.
I'll leave you with just one experience I've had with Aura so far. At one point, I spent 10 minutes taking notes of how a machine was behaving, trying to figure out if it had any patterns. It looked random, no matter what I tried. Exhausted, I flicked through my notes to see if there was another puzzle I could solve to take a break. And there it was - a puzzle I had spent 15 minutes on the day before. Putting my notes together, I solved both of them instantly.

What a fun romp and escape to a mystical world. This is easily one of my favorites from a by gone era. It's easily a classic. The puzzles and worlds are awesome. Highly recommend if you aren't one of those people to fault it for it's limitations due to age.

Definitely a product of its time (that didn't always age well), but the aesthetic carries it.
Classic Myst-Style graphical adventure game! It's got immensely satisfying puzzles, moody music, and although the storyline is a bit silly it's still got a unique feel to the sweeping and dreamlike environments.
Amazing game with very interesting puzzles. The graphics & movement are way old fashioned. I experienced some trouble in moving around as some options would only be available/clickable, only if the cursor was on a specific place within surroundings, but that makes perfect sense if you consider the fact, that the game is quite old.. The puzzles are a bit difficult, certainly not suitable for everyone. I am an adventure game lover and some of them squeezed my brain for weeks. Again, considering its release time, it has a lot of cool-weird machines and fantastic mechanisms. I definitely recommend it, if someone likes adventure games and don't mind playing games from different era (with whatever that comes with)

Just a simple point and click adventure game, it's pretty good minus the very few pixel hunting parts. Puzzles are easy to follow for most of them, backdrops are nice. But last portion of the game isn't as good as beginning or middle parts. If you don't have much to play this should provide for an interesting pick.

Как хорошо всё начиналось - образцовый мистоид с рисунками-подсказками. Сложные головоломки и не у кого спросить совета. Отличная цветовая гамма, спокойная музыка. В общем, все условия для любителей подумать над очередной задачей.
Две трети игры авторы справлялись, но вдруг после разгадки тайны камертонов вы попадаете в низкопробную игрушку с квадратной трехмерной графикой и невменяемым сюжетом. Появляется масса персонажей с непонятными хотелками, появляется масса странных заданий от этих персонажей, а к концу игры откуда-то появляются статисты, которые вас убьют, если не туда свернете. Из мистоида игра превращается в боевичок со стрельбой.
Финал невнятен, необходимо играть во 2-ю часть. А 3-ю часть авторы так и не создали...
Итог: не докрутили игру и не докрутили проект в целом. 5 баллов за половину хорошего мистоида.
"Aura: Fate of the Ages" is an ancient game from 2004. It's a whopping 20 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try profit from abandonware.
This is basically a Myst ripoff, you do some first person adventuring by shifting between 360 degree "scenes", but with no real first person locomotion, just teleporting. Click around in each scene to solve the adventure game puzzles and solve the mysteries in the plot for the game, which is basically hard to differentiate from a Myst game, not only did they borrow the gameplay, they borrowed the esoteric Steampunkish theme. Highly derivative, to say the least.
On the upside, the game does feature customisable controls and resolution, so at least some of the basic, minimum requirements have been met. Unfortunately there's a number of other technical defects and shortcomings which contribute to the game being difficult to recommend to gamers.
The game only displays in 4:3 pillarboxed aspect ratio, due to the age of the game, it predates the 16:9 widescreen gaming standard established back in 2006. It's possible they're marketing this towards people using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game is being specifically marketed towards people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming. It's obviously not going to look right on a modern 16:9 gaming display. The game resolution caps out at 1200p... it'll never look right on a modern gaming panel, because it'll never run at your native display resolution. That's a fail.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?
"Aura: Fate of the Ages" is relatively expensive for an abandonware nostalgia gouge, at $5 USD, and it's not worth it. The game is just too old, hasn't been modernised. And as the old saying goes, you can't go home again. For comparison, the $5 asking price for this game could get you games like "DOOM", "Hellblade: Sensua's Sacrifice" or "Mad Max". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
This is one of those cases where the mixed reviews are wrong and give a false impression. I play every Myst style game I can find and this turned out to be one of the best.
The worlds and environments are beautiful, which is one of the things I like to see in a Myst style game. The puzzles in Aura are very good. What I liked in particular is that you always get a beautiful animation the moment you solve a puzzle. This felt very rewarding.
One downside of the game is that some (but not all) of the character animations look pretty bad. But that does not spoil how much fun it is to play this game.
I highly recommend Aura, Fate of the Ages for any Myst fan.

Очень и очень неплохой квест старой школы, сильно напоминающий франшизу "Myst". Есть и хороший сюжет, и не менее плохие головоломки. Многие из них завязаны на логическом мышлении. Да, местами может показаться какого чёрта?! Почему так?! Но когда начинаешь размышлять и понимать работу механизмов, всё встаёт на свои места. История и геймплей сводятся к тому, что вы оказываетесь в незнакомом мире с разнообразными механизмами, где вам и предстоит понять суть их работы, чтобы достигнуть своей конечной цели.
В общем, игра хорошая. Но с оговоркой. Хороша она для своего времени, а так же людей любящих подобные квесты. Думаю, что массовой аудитории она всё-таки не подойдёт. Те же, кто умудрён опытом в подобнымх играх, квест понравится. А тем, кто хочет приобщиться к такому геймплею, то эта игра хороший вариант, ибо тот же "Myst" в разы сложнее.

Lovely old style point and click adventure game. Puzzles/quests are nicely intricate (but not illogical). Good gameplay and artwork.

I bought this game eons ago during a sale and it's been sitting in my Steam library untouched ever since. As part of my 2023 resolution to play more and buy less, I thought I would finally give Aura: Fate of the Ages a go.
[b]NOTE:[/b] I'm not going to unfairly grade a 20-year-old game on its graphics quality.
However, through the various cut scenes in the game, both the animation of the characters and the dialogue are horrendous, even for the era. The writing could have and should have been better.
I think the game would have been MORE interesting had they taken the characters out and left more mystery to the world and the environment. The discovery of symbolism and patterns alongside other elements is pretty decent from a puzzle perspective, but the intermingling of sub-par storytelling and lackluster performances make this a difficult game to recommend.
Given there's no option to rate the game as "mixed", I'm giving Aura a thumbs-up based on the puzzles. But it's barely there given the deafening cry of a shoddy story layered on top.
Lets not compare Aura to similar titles like Myst, expecting intricate world plot or conspiracy. The cryptic peculiar nature of Aura's world is what make it charming and add to the adventure. It let you ponder into a dream like fantasy with most left to imagination, no fun in knowing all its secrets. It's what make a great spiritual adventure.
Pretty decent for a game this old. In fact, it's a lot better than many newer games. The graphics were a bit overdone, and the rendition of human forms is not up to today's standards, but they didn't have too many characters.
It could have used a help/hint feature, because it's not always clear what to do next, or that you're missing some obscure object that's crucial to advance, and some of the puzzles are obscure, but it was well worth the couple of bucks I paid for it.

С одной стороны, игру хочется похвалить - оформление, геймплей и концепция в духе "прям как в Myst", очень много видеовставок, загадочная техномагия. Головоломки - детализированные, разнообразные и весьма логичные, часто многоуровневые, особенно в первой локации. Красивые и детализированные фоны, для своего времени, разумеется.
С другой стороны - посредственный и ленивый сюжет, в котором фигурирует злой злодей и тупой ГГ - самый наглядный пример, это когда он [spoiler] просто так выпускает подозрительного персонажа из тюрьмы, ведь тот вежливо попросил его выпустить[/spoiler]. В последней трети игра очень провисает - третий мир, который посещает герой, сделан уже не так хорошо, как первые два. Головоломки зачастую теряют логику и причинно-следственные связи, особенно это заметно в локации "детских пещер" и локации "амазонок". [spoiler] Не, ну вы серьезно? Набрать воду в маленький листик, найденный в другой локации, для полива засохшик колючек? Почему бы в той локации не положить ведро, черпак или другую емкость для воды? Я уйму времени потратил в поисках предмета, в который можно набрать воды, а это оказался гребаный маленький лист размером меньше ладони, который еще хрен найдешь, если не знаешь, где искать. [/spoiler] Плюс, неоднозначное звуковое сопровождение, когда на любой локации рандомно проигрываются всякие звуковые сэмплы, вроде рева животных или всяких магических эффектов, что иногда очень сбивает - загадка с барабанами тому пример. Но отличные первые две трети игры с лихвой окупают неудачную последнюю локацию.
В целом - игра нормальная, особенно для своего времени. Твердые 7 баллов из 10.
This game is a bit of a mixed bag ... So, I can recommend it, but only with some reservations.
The art style doesn't seem consistent, but overall, the game world looks interesting and sometimes even really beautiful. Navigation can be a bit tricky sometimes, even requiring some pixel hunting here and there. The music is a bit random and the sound effects are sometimes quite ... bizarre. The game play is mostly linear and uses npc's tfor advancement. As for the puzzles : there were some that I really enjoyed, and there were many that I found quite frustrating (I misunderstood the clue, or I had simply no idea what to do).
I also had some problems playing this game on Windows 10, where mouse clicks either didn't register, or registered as multiple clicks.
This game is for hardened puzzle solvers, just like me. I had a blast. Brilliant game :)
[i]Aura[/i] may fall well short of the [i]Myst[/i] series that it strives to emulate, but ends up as a reasonable bargain-bin knock-off. The puzzles will likely not stymie you for any appreciable time, but they're still challenging enough to not be insulting. It's not a game for the connoisseurs, or the particularly choosy; [i]Aura[/i] is a game for those who burn through Myst-like games quickly and always need another to feed their addiction -- it's quite serviceable for that purpose.

jde o hru typu Myst. Tedy chozeni v mystickem svete po predrenderovanych drahach a reseni slozitych logickych hadanek obvykle zahrnujicich nejake obri stroje nebo konstrukce.
hadanky se mi zpocatku libily. jejich obtiznost byla vyssi a timpadem taky spokojenost po jejich vyreseni byla vetsi. dal jsem si dokonce dobrovolnou challenge, ze hru dohraju bez napovedy.

A funky old adventure game in an interesting and off-beat world that may owe something to the original Myst game. The setting is kind of like the mountaintops of Switzerland, and all the characters but the protagonist are rather stodgy, taciturn men who tell our hero what he must do and give him one or two clues, but it's up to him to figure out how to work the machinery. The interaction is somewhat odd, and character development is minimal, but I'm glad some attempt was made to populate this snowbound land with at least a few souls other than the protagonist. There are many puzzles that advance the story; I can't think of any that seemed extraneous or inappropriate. Quite a number of these would be hard to figure out without a walkthrough. As presented on Steam, the game is played in some kind of DOS environment, where there is no access to screenshots among other things. It runs reasonably smoothly, but I found it consistently tricky to open the inventory when a device was needed or if I had to consult the diary. Still it has given me many pleasant and puzzling hours of play.

Sehr cooles Spiel, kommt schon sehr nah an die "Myst" Serie dran. Manche Rätsel sind mit Lösung noch schwer zu knacken. Wunderschöne Landschaften und sehr viele Details. Die Steuerung ist etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig. Der 360° Rundrumblick ist aber fantastisch.

The depth and difficulty of the puzzles are very awkward.
One of the guides says its a bit like opening your front door by revolving the plant pots on the house next door.

Perfectly serviceable "Myst III: Exile" clone. While the story and voice acting are sub-par, the graphics are quite good. A lot of puzzles feel like they're just there for the puzzle's sake, but they are mostly logical.
If you catch this on a sale for a couple of bucks, it's not bad.

- It has weirdishly ciringy soundtrack but i didnt mind it, it was kinda calming me, but ik that some people wont like it.
-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ animations can be exausting, but after 7 h i found out you can skip them with an ESC.
-There are puzzles that acctualydo not make any sense, and can be terrifyingly boring to solve.
- Looking for some items can be so stupid that i cant explain you. Creators put some items in the most tiny spaces and map can be hugee.
This game isn't for anybody. Just for the lovers of the puzzles, and nostalgic people of course. But in the end i am satisfied and mad that ther is no second part on steam.

Визуально очень напомнила две части Mysterious Journey: диковинная флора, непонятные устройства. Боялась, что по сложности загадок будет примерно то же самое, но эта игра в целом достаточно понятная, лично мне позволила отдохнуть. Начало сбивает с толку: сразу закидывают на крупную локацию с кучей всего. Но громоздкие и сложные по виду механизмы на деле управляются легко, один включает другой. Главное не пропускать активные точки и сопоставлять разные устройства друг с другом (для чего даются подсказки в виде картинок в журнале). Сложности были, да и не у всех загадок я поняла логику, решила скорее методом тыка. Зато предметов не очень много - если не понятно что куда ставить, так же быстро решается подбором.
Сюжет для меня не близок, это скорее абстракция про некого "ученика чародея" и кольца власти, которые нужно защитить. Так что не особо интересно что и почему - просто шла и решала головоломку. Перемещение - мышкой от 1-го лица, через смену экранов, с возможностью вращения на 360 гр. Есть некоторое кол-во катсцен, неплохое (хоть и не запоминающееся), музыкальное сопровождение на фоне (для разных локаций своё). Английский в целом понятный, я думаю, если можете осилить английское описание к игре в Стиме - разберетесь и в самой игре, читать записки там не потребуется (только начальную), будет лишь некоторое кол-во диалогов, да названия предметов (мне они почти не пригодились).
Из технических сложностей: нельзя отрегулировать чувствительность мыши, а она сильная, на мой взгляд. Настроек у игры вообще минимум. На Windows 10 понадобилось включить в компонентах "DirectPlay", т.к. игра старая и без него не запускалась. И еще всю игру у меня глюк с вызовом/закрытием инвентаря (жмешь ПКМ - он появляется и тут же пропадает. Или наоборот - не получается его закрыть). Приходилось закликивать ПКМ и елозить мышкой. Неудобно, но терпимо.
Сыграла бы во вторую часть, но что-то в Стиме её нет, жаль. А так, игра на любителя, за 30 рублей можно попробовать, если древних квестов не чураетесь (я урвала за 24).
Apenas jugue 10 minutos, pero no pude mas, puzzles sin sentido desde el principio, sin pistas, sin personajes, audiovisualmente mal envejecido, la historia es una mierda, y no se puede poner ni a 1080p, no te puedes mover por el escenario, solo controlas el puntero del raton y de una manera bastante tosca para mi gusto, solo lo recomendaria a fanaticos de los point&click basados en puzzles.
Slow as hell and the puzzles are irritating. Old school point and click, you move around the map a frame at a time which is a pain when you need to move between rooms. I swear that of the 3 hours of game play at least 2 hours is just clicking and waiting for it to move forward an inch.

Sometimes, I feel the need for a FP adventure game fix, and I look at my library and there it "always" stood near the top, Aura: Fate of the Ages. No clue when I got it anymore, but it's there. And I'd sigh and go again, start over for the 3rd, 4th time. And it would hook me. Now, the story is vague and simplistic, not to use harsher words, depicting an abstract techno-magical pocket-plane heavy world that these 90s/00s Mystoids oh so dearly loved.
The characters are, of course, wooden and unrelatable, with "acting" on such a level that the credits mentioning "voice *talent*" gave me a chuckle. It's the atmosphere and the puzzles. The graphics, while grainy, are depicting an interesting setting here and there - when not lost in randomness (or not being character animations) - but it's the music that creates the atmosphere, maybe the best part of the game, and the puzzles come next. There is logic in that abstraction, most end up having a good amount of sense, and the in-built hints, while not serving everything on a plate, indeed do help. Far from the bottom of the barrel.
But then I'd get stuck. I'd get how things should go but something would be missing. Why can't I do that? I mean, it's there. Where is the item I'm clearly missing? Do I need to go pixel hunting around? So, I'd give up, not caring enough to click each and every single part of the screen that looks clickable... I armed myself with patience today, just to get rid of it, and plowed through it. Ending up with 11 hours, realistically 6 more than needed, at most. And honestly, that's blown up by the "tricks" made to put some meat on a relatively skinny game. I mean, the game tasks you to pick up a leaf. A single leaf, a particular leaf in a forestish area at one point. And no, it doesn't really make any sense in any way and is not hinted in any way by anything. Trying to do everything, revisit everything, click on everything is the way to go. Most of the time.
I'd enjoyed it at periods, some puzzles giving a nice sense of achievement, but I was also angry at it and its design decisions at periods. Overall, I can't recommend it in all honesty. If there was a "meh" button, I'd pick that one - 60ish/100 really. If you're into the genre, a completist, sure, why not, you can find worse (and if you are, you've seen some catastrophes, but this isn't). But there are so many better ones I reckon, that at this point, you can go without it.
Никогда не понимал данную концепцию игры: игрока выбрасывают на локацию с кучей бредовых механизмов-головоломок разбросанных в разных местах и заставляют тупить. Запустишь методом научного тыка какой-нибудь механизм - где-то, что-то открылось - иди броди дальше, ищи, что ты там открыл. Это очень нудно и неинтересно, тем более, что толкового сюжета тут нету, в начале просто показывают очередной бредовый ролик про древних, которые спрятали супер бупер устройство с супер бупер силой. Учитывая, что игра устарела и тут неудобная система передвижений и зверский пиксель хантинг, то можно ещё дольше тупить, из-за того, что просто не заметил активную зону или какой-либо предмет и желание играть в это пропадает насовсем.
This game is... somewhat cringe. There's no cohesive storyline, a bunch of names thrown all over the place, which made me lose interest quite quickly. The puzzles are generally simple, but the way the machines work is odd and nonsensical: it almost seems like the developers had fun designing complex machines just for the sake of it, possibly (probably) trying to emulate the feeling of the Myst games, which this game looks extremely like a clone of. The oddest choice here was adding badly rendered characters with awful voice acting which were absolutely avoidable (if you can't do it properly, don't do it at all). It wasn't a bad experience overall, but it made me physically cringe.

Quando uscì lo trovai affascinante, ma il tempo passa per tutti e questo gioco non è più davvero all'altezza di essere giocato. Tra l'altro non mi funziona nemmeno: lagga da morire, tanto da non essere giocabile. Non so nemmeno perché ce l'ho in libreria, forse l'ho beccato in qualche bundle. Comunque non stateci a buttare soldi non vale nemmeno 99 cent.
I always thought I was a hardcore point n' click adventure fan, but Aura made me understand I might not be. Tedious, non-sensical, boring, repetitive, unintuitive - that's how I'd describe this game. They show you some kinda intro which explains nothing, stuff like who you are or where or why - not needed. Then they shove you into some magical world where you have to begin some kinda journey. Again - why? As somebody here excellently pointed out, why should I care what's happening in this game if I have zero clues about what's going on and have to think very hard to even begin to understand anything?
So the story isn't really Aura's strongest point. Instead it's very puzzle-heavy, but they make even less sense, especially since only a small portion of them have any clues on how to solve them. And even they are of little help. The others you have to either spend a very long time to solve, save time and look them up on the Internet or if you're lucky, brute-force them. But what's fun about that? What's more, those puzzles are very weird, with alien-like designs and sometimes so intricate and demanding they become tiresome to solve. And there's just so many of them! Also, god forbid you make a pause of a week or two with Aura, because when I did that and came back I couldn't remember anything at all as to what I'd been doing up to that point in the game or what I was supposed to do at that time. I guess it speaks for itself how forgettable Aura is. So unless you're a mastermind who solves anything in an instant or have days to spare with nothing better to do or keep a walkthrough handy, I think you're gonna bore yourself to death here.
TLDR: Honestly not great. Some absurd puzzle solutions. Only play if you're a die-hard Myst fan and need your fix.
Aura: Fate of the Ages is an early 2000's first-person adventure game, much in the style of Myst and Riven. However, a lot of issues prevent this game from reaching Myst's level:
CONS:
-The voice acting pretty bad, as are character models/animations. It's hard to care at all about the story.
-What even is going on in this story? Who am I? Who are these people? Why should I care?
-Tons of moon logic puzzles near the end of the game. A lot of puzzles rely on you staying put in one world to solve them, then it does a 180 and has you backtrack to find necessary items in other worlds. I wouldn't have figured out half this stuff on my own without a hint website.
-A lot of puzzles aren't intuitive at all, and you'll be clicking blindly a lot hoping you'll find whatever mechanism to make a machine work.
-Random sound effects coming from nowhere while you're working on a puzzle. Why is there a sudden snarl from behind you? Random whooshing air noises? Random machine noises when there's no machines around?
PROS:
-The first half of the game is actually pretty decent. The puzzles are challenging but reach sensible solutions.
-Music is OK, but definitely shows its MIDI age.
-Graphics aren't bad, but are also showing their age. All character art is pretty lousy.
Grab it only on sale (~$5) and if you're a Myst nerd who wants to see more content in that style.

It's a very old game, so the design is based on a system that makes it very annoying, and almost frustrating, to play.
I've lost my old save game, and I'm not actually finding the game compelling enough to continue playing it much further...

Had a hard time deciding if I recommend this game. Decided YES but it leaves you at the end feeling cheated. Easy to get through with no help but has no plot what so ever. If you like to play puzzle click and walk games with no story line, you may find this interesting. Wouldn't pay more then $10 for it. Like some of these games , leaves you wondering what to do with no clues. Some games are completed via chance. To each their own but I didn't care for it and never play it again but someone may find it interesting?
I couldn't beat the game because the tuning fork puzzle doesn't make any sound on my system so I became stuck. Besides that I would not recommend the game because of the lackluster story, terrible voice acting, and unnecessarily complex puzzles. The game also has a bad habit of simply hiding important things from you. Almost as soon as I started I had to switch to using a walkthrough. Where I got stuck was in the first room of the game there are a series of small machines you interact with. When you select the first machine you can simply move left or right to move between it's neighbors. Except one. This is what threw me. One machine is you have to back out and THEN select it. This is so completely broken even the walkthrough mentions it is easy to miss. The game is full of examples like this. This is also one of the few games where the author of the walkthrough writes about how grateful they are that they will never have to touch/explain/see a certain puzzle again. That is how bad this game is.
Its control designs are outdated for an adventure game - you can't ask for clues in case you missed picking up an item here or there - so I had to resort to using a walkthrough. I actually quite enjoyed it after that and was torn on whether or not I should recommend it. The ending settled it for me.

Pretty good game if you're into the Puzzle-Adventure genre. Has a few minor problems here and there, but nothing too bad. Definitely worth its price. Hopefully the sequel is added to Steam one day...
First of all, I like the visuals a lot. The game uses rendered backgrounds to the extent that it seems like playing through late 90's cutscenes in first person, as it manages to merge rendered films with gameplay almost seamlessly. I don't know how common those techniques were at the time apart from the usual use of rendered backgrounds, but it impressed me here.
The music overall is also nice. It sometimes sounds awfully synthetic, but it's alright for the time. But I don't understand the occasional random out-of-place sound effect that unintentionally scared me to death.
The puzzles were mostly fine throughout the first half, and went stupidly downhill from there. It came to a point where I was honestly fed up with their logic and just resided to a walkthrough.
The smallest inconveniences being that some indicators don't make it very obvious what to do with them, but can be solved by trying random items on them. But puzzles should NEVER be designed in a way that you gotta need an item from an entirely different location, which is just lying on the ground in some random spot. Plus, some solutions make no sense, some clues are downright misleading, some riddles are even introduced and left open-ended with no resolution at all.
The game is also very scarce with indications of what you did wrong in the first place, and is also very inconsistent with what you can or can't do. Some spots simply refuse an unfitting item, some riddles can be easily screw up, some can just be solved by trial and error. For some solutions you even have to re-enter a room to see its effect.
The direction here feels like a mess. I've experienced much, much worse puzzles in other games, but it is still disappointing.
Also for some reason my computer heats up to frying temperatures while playing this game. I don't know what causes it, but I don't have this with more demanding and recent games.

FPS系の操作で例えれば、Vで前進しF6で後退、PとCで左右移動、EnterでジャンプDelで攻撃、マウスサポートは無くキーバインドは一切行えない状態のゲームを想像してもらえば分かりやすいだろうか、奇特な操作性をウリにしているならともかくとして一般的にはゲーム以前の問題であり操作性一つでク○ゲーにもなる
ゲームプレイを妨げることのない操作性を如何にして実装するかその重要性を全く考えていないユーザビリティの低いゲームがあまりにも多いことが残念でならない
I got this game as part of my Humble Bundle.
It's a fun little puzzle game with very little instructions, but if you pay attention most of the puzzles do make sense. The graphics are horrible and the storyline is very flat, but it's an enjoyable easy enough puzzle game that requires you to think outside the box a bit. If you want like 6 hours of solid puzzle gameplay and don't mind really old graphics this is the game for you.

Ein schon etwas älteres Spiel, aber mir, als riesen "Myst" Fan, hat es sehr gut gefallen.
This game is 14 years old (in 2018) so my expectations weren't that high regarding the quality of the graphics. I still expected to be able to enjoy playing "Aura: Fate of Ages" since I believe I would still enjoy playing the original "Myst", despite its legacy graphics and age. I immensely enjoyed playing "Myst" back in the day and like adventure/puzzle games a lot, so my dissatisfaction with "Aura: Fate of the Ages" does not stem from not being held by the hand or hard puzzles.
One big problem with "Aura: Fate of Ages" is that the story is not motivating at all. It is presented in a fragmented manner leaving many unanswered gaps. For some reason, characters in the game help you but only to a very limited extent, leaving you to figure out the hard parts yourself. Why? There is nothing in the game that suggests that you are subjected to a test of skills, or similar.
Another problem is the game's interaction design. I don't mind a click-and-transport style -- it can actually be more efficient to quickly zap through areas instead of having to walk through them in real time -- but the navigational control is frustrating. The target click areas are sometimes insanely small and in non-intuitive locations. Instead of being able to click at a door in the distance, for instance, one has to click away from it first then back again, etc.
Also, sadly, there are some hidden items which require one to have a full 360° view around one's location with respect to two axes (left/right & up/down). There aren't many such locations but because they do exist, one basically has to do a full scan at every location. This is not fun and puts a lot of onus on the player just because of a very small number of locations where this is required.
Sometimes one runs into puzzles which are operational but not yet relevant. The problem is that one receives no indication about such not-yet-relevant puzzles, meaning that one can easily spend a considerable amount of time trying to get a response out of a puzzle, only to discover later that it was't quite time yet to interact with this particular puzzle.
Many puzzles don't make much real world sense. There are very elaborate contraptions that only serve a very narrow purpose; one lever has multiple effects in a way one would never expect from a real lever, etc. Not all, but many of the puzzles were not organically integrated into a plausible world. In one instance, one has to use an item for a purpose that it is totally unsuitable for and on top of that, the item is hidden in a world where it is incredibly hard to spot. I believe 90% of players would get stuck here without using a guide and as soon as one has to resort to such means, I feel that the game has failed as one isn't able to maintain a sense of immersion anymore.
I didn't find the graphics to be too bad; ironically, the pre-rendered animations look worse than the normal game play, when maxing out the game's resolution (1600x1200). I did suffer from an interface problem, though, which made the right mouse button unreliable. This made accessing inventory items, and in particular leaving the inventory mode, a frustrating experience at times. At least the game ran under Windows 10 once I found a page that explained that one has to run it in "Windows XP SP3" compatibility mode.
I didn't find the soundtrack to be a strong part of the game. The worst aspect of the sound design was that the ambient sounds sometimes included sound events such as someone knocking or a sound effect that appeared to signify that something important has happened, yet these sound effects are all randomly generated. This can be distracting, but worse, misleading when playing with a puzzle and believing one made some kind of breakthrough when in reality just a random sound was played.
I don't want to be unfair to older games, but I don't think the problems with "Aura: Fate of Ages" are caused by its age. If a modern game, with modern graphics, had the same issues, I would not like them either. Overall, I'd say only hardcore puzzlers who want to cover as many puzzle games as possible should engage with "Aura: Fate of Ages". It has some very decent puzzles after all, if only they were integrated in a plausible world and accessible with a better interaction design.
Absolutely loved this game as a kid! Played it through like 5 times. A few years ago I saw it on steam and decided to give it a go again. It wasn't as brilliant as I remembered it, but I still liked it.

People are waaaay to hard on this game. It's only 5 bucks, has many hours and hours of game play and it's enjoyable. It isn't good as Myst {what game is???} It's well worth the price and is very enjoyable, take notes. :)

TLDR: Planescape derivative plot and art style. Walk clicker with Myst-like impossible to complete puzzles without a hintbook. Appeal is limited.
I like the tone, the exploration is fun, but getting stuck constantly and having to refer to a solution is not all that entertaining. The walk clicker interface is not too disorienting thanks to well designed landmarks and pathways. I might hold on to this on a temporary basis in case I want to play it in team with someone reading me what to do. But this game is ultimately doomed to be removed as its design language and philosophy is from an age of gaming that has come and gone and the entertainment value simply isnt there anymore.
I watched a Lets Play and the plot is very cheesy. You are the chosen one. You solve a ton of very obscure cryptic puzzles where you match pictures to hints or sometimes really confusing dials and knobs and machines. It is nice to see them come to life but not cool enough to go through the hassle.
Without a hint system, or the ability to walk around, this is neither walking simulator or hidden object and is sort of a primitive VR. Where you blink from spot to spot and can look 360 degrees. This way of doing games has long since fallen out of fashion and this kind of adventure games are not longer being made as a result. I can see why. Removing for declutter
I keep having my game crash at the area just in front of the cottage when going outside to solve puzzles. I have no idea what to do there, as no parts of this puzzle light up. After looking at it for maybe 15 seconds, the game crashes every time. I'm not sure I can advance past the first part without completing this puzzle and not sure how to fix the game repearedly crashing? Bummer, because point and click puzzles like this are my jam...
The backstory exposition at the start did nothing to invest me or really give the game any meaning, and it all ends on a cliffhanger anyway so whatever story there is is basically for nothing. Meanwhile I fought on through the puzzles OR more importantly fought with the controls trying to move between the puzzles, because apparently the obvious way to move between two points isn't a straight line but by changing direction multiple times whilst moving through numerous other points in between (I felt that this got even worse towards the end of the game?).
I also ran foul of a couple of bugs: One where the game crashed when I tried to delete a save file via the menu, and another where I accidentally managed to get an item before I'd solved the pre-requisite puzzles. The latter left me solving puzzles not knowing that the whole reason for solving them was already in my inventory! When I reached the end of the puzzles and got nothing for it I just kept looking for something I'd missed, and needed a walkthrough to tell me that I'd actually done what I needed to do and could just move on to the next part of the game. -_-
Really I lost interest in the game partway through, and it's only for the sake of completionism that I got to the end. NOT a recommendation.

Aura: Fate of the Ages / Aura: Tor zur Ewigkeit ist ein klassisches 2D-Adventure im Stil von Myst. Ähnlich aufgebaut mit hochgerenderten 2D Bildern die den Anschein von 3D vermitteln und gefüllt mir weitgehend kryptischen Schalter-und Kombinationsrätsel. Der Spieler folgt einer etwas kruden Story mit mehr Logiklöchern als ein Käse aus Tilsit. Alles in allem nur für Fans von Myst und ähnlichen Adventures geeignet.

This game came out in 2004, so I am a little disapointed by all the negative reviews because, for its time and genre, Aura is a great game. It is definately is a Myst- like game in that you do have to use your mind to think outside the box... the environments are beautiful... and you have no clue what to do at first. Is it easier than Myst... a little, the clues are a bit more obvious, and the puzzles not quite as hard. But if you have never played this type of game before, it is difficult. Is it as good as Myst? Not by a long shot, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good game. Myst set the bar VERY high, and for its time Aura is one of the better clones that I have played.
For an older game, I highly recommend Aura for fans of this genre. And I have had no problems running it on my Windows 10 gaming rig.

Este point and click me rompió la cabeza durante mucho tiempo de principio a fin.
A pesar de su temática y largas situaciones de conversaciones la verdad que lo disfrute mucho
de principio a fin. Los puntos donde uno como jugador se ve más abrumado es en los puzzles, aquí es donde la dificultad se hace presente y el ingenio de cada uno sale a flote. Cada uno está pensado para hacernos pensar, analizar y conectar elementos para seguir adelante, pero además logra una conexión coherente con la historia y propone situación bastante interesantes.
La historia se mantiene sobre una linea recta la cual nos mantiene activos y con varias intrigas pero como una simple excusa para continuar por lo cual termina siendo algo en segundo plano en muchos momentos y aunque la historia es interesante en ciertos momentos se pierde y da demasiadas vueltas con la excusa de ponernos un nuevo enigma delante. Lo que nos acompaña de manera correcta siempre es la música, de esas que cuando terminas el juego querés buscar para tener de fondo mientras navegas en internet.
El juego es recomendable pero solo para aquellos que disfruten de este tipo de aventuras con mucha intrigante, acertijos y inteligentes puzzles.

If you have a life-threatening need for a puzzle game, and this is available to you for free, sure, take it. The game is a passable myst-alike for a while, though the puzzles aren't communicated as well as they can be. By the third world, it has devolved into little more than a hidden-object point-and-click, and often you need to complete pointless conversations before you can even attempt puzzles.
The acting is sub-par at its best, and cringe-worthy at worst, with what little plot is explained seeming to be a simple macguffin search with no real purpose. The ending is utterly unsatisfying, though the cutscenes are often very prettily animated.
If you want an old, myst-alike, but are usually better with point-and-click adventures, this may work for you, but it's not a worthwhile purchase under any circumstances.

Hru doporučuji všem příznivcům hádanek. Svým zpracováním se podobá legendární hře Myst. Různá věky, hádanky s indiciemi v jejich okolí. Zpracování hry nelze nic vytknout.

Legenda říká, že ten kdo spojí prsteny s artefakty paralelních světů, získá velkou moc a nesmrtelnost. Hlavní hrdina má za úkol je najít a ochránit před zlosynem.

[h1]JAK SE HRAJE[/h1]
Hra "AURA: OSUD VĚKŮ" se ukládá pouze ručně v hlavním menu hry. V jednom věku je možné "zemřít" ale hra se vrátí před chybný krok a hráč může pokračovat tam, kde skončil. Pro vyřešení některých hádanek je nejprve nutné najít indicie v okolí. Na začátku hry je to např. v okolí domu. Hádanky jsou spíše obtížné až těžké a nápovědy k nim nejsou textové, takže je potřeba pouze logika (nebo návod ☺). Sebrané předměty se z inventáře používají na aktivní oblasti. Kombinování v inventáři se nedělá. V inventáři je také kniha, do které se zakreslují některé nalezené nápovědy. Nutno podotknout, že některé věci lze provést, až na ně přijde řada. To se týká i možnosti někam jít (např. až vás osoba vyzve). Pokud nevíte jak dál, tak je také dobré promluvit si s někým v okolí. Prostředí je předrenderované s pohybujícími se objekty a pohyb je po skocích. Někdy se také přehraje animace přesunu. Hra je také plná animací při řešení hádanek.
[h1]CHYBY VE HŘE[/h1]
Staly se mi jen dvě zvláštní věci, které nijak neovlivnily hru. Obě byly ve Věku dětí. Pět zářících rohů bylo umístěno, ale nesprávně. Po opuštění věku a návratu zpět byly všechny stále umístěny a navíc jeden z nich byl i v inventáři. Zvonkohra se mi podařila sebrat, ačkoliv měla jít až po vyřešení celého věku.

Oyun aşırı yavaş ilerliyor ve bu nedenle her geçen saniye daha sıkıcı oluyor. Herhangi bir aksiyon olmadığı için oyun takrar içine alamıyor ve kopmaya sebep oluyor.

1st person point and click.. adventure, fantasy, Sci-fi type game..
It's not completely my kind of game but it has it’s good points.. For starter’s the amazing graphics.. I found myself looking around at all of it in awe!
Nice non-irritating somewhat soothing soundtrack.. (Except for an oddly placed barking dog)
The storyline in itself is simple.. Get from point A to point B looking for someone..
To do this, you as the (Main Character) travel by airship and enter different worlds putting things together on the way.
The puzzles ran hot and cold. Some were just thinkable when other’s and a lot for me; were extremely difficult to impossible!
Cons:
It has so much frustrating time wasted trying to find a hot spot or even an exit cursor!
The main character whom you play wasn’t interesting at all and in fact came across as just dumb!
My biggest beef! I played it way to long for the entire ending to just jump to the credits!!!
I had to watch the actual ending cut scene on you tube! Grrrrrrrr,,,
In a nutshell.. If you like a time taker, fantasy, graphics galore and some very challenging puzzle’s you’ll have fun!
It was OK; could have been better. The sound/music wasn't the best chosen at times, but ok, so what. The visuals were 'usually' ok but, at times, were totally confusing. The puzzles, for the most part, made logical sense and were fun to solve. Others, however, let's just say, not so much. No reason to go into each mess that was created by the programmers but let's just say that you will probably be going to a walk-through from time to time. With that said, it was still entertaining. It won't be remembered or talked about much but it entertained me for 16 hours and it was only 5 bucks.
It's well worth the ride if you have nothing better on your plate.
