Delightful, quirky, dryly witty game where you play Simon, a less-than-scrupulous astrologer-♥♥♥-doctor in Elizabethan London. Your aim is to get your patients to like you and write you letters of recommendation but it's not always apparent whether you will get farther by being honest or being flattering with each of them. And either way, your treatments might not work. It's a fun send-up of the time period and knowing each character will come back keeps you wanting to play to see where their stories go.

It's making fun of old times in all possible manner - quackery, superstitions, feudalism, and all other manner of things. All that while navigating choices... however you want? Of course, there's a goal in all of that - but it's up to you to figure out what's the way to get there. Is it through science? Personal gain? Short-term pleasing your customers, or long-term consequences? It combines some real deduction pieces with social deduction, all in a less-than-standard ways of "science".
It's a simple game, focusing on narrative and comedy - and does those things well! Simplicity of gameplay is definitely carried by the storylines, and the on-point voice acting.

Great fast little game- playtime includes several hours of wandering away between cases. Admittedly it has a very specific approach- you're in the overlap of enjoying casual history, games that play with what a game can be, and everyone getting a theme song, you might also dig it!

This historical visual novel is a joy! The writing is ridiculously good; so witty and sophisticated. The research - it is set in Shakespeare's London - and the voice acting are also top-drawer, not to mention the hilarious choral songs. You play as Simon Forman, an astrologer-quack who does 'readings' for a fascinating cast of characters. The way the storytelling is wrapped around this main narrative mechanic is very clever. The choices you make, based on the readings you give, profoundly effect the lives of Forman's patients, for both good and ill (depending on your choices). A gem of a narrative game.

Una excelente comedia narrativa de ambientación histórica, por la que circulan varios personajes reales y ficticios de la Inglaterra de finales del siglo XVI y principios del XVII, la época de Shakespeare. El protagonista es Simon Forman, médico y astrólogo sin licencia, un peculiar personaje que existió realmente y que dejó cuantiosas notas escritas sobre sus pacientes y otros muchos temas, de valor incalculable para los historiadores que estudian la vida cotidiana de la época.
Y eso recrea el juego: los consultantes acuden al doctor Forman por problemas de salud, asuntos de negocios, líos amorosos... Es nuestra misión escuchar sus consultas y hacer lecturas astrológicas que les den respuesta. Escoger la respuesta más apropiada requiere de psicología, deducción y a veces un poco de suerte, y hay que encontrar un equilibrio entre decirle al consultante la verdad o lo que quiere oír. Entre asuntos cotidianos, también se van desarrollando los acontecimientos políticos de la época: guerras, conspiraciones, etc.
Las interpretaciones son absolutamente estelares, todos los actores que ponen voz a los personajes hacen un trabajo de 10. Dan vida a unos diálogos divertidos e ingeniosos, que fluyen entre la parodia, la ironía, la comedia de enredos y el ocasional momento dramático. La música también es exquisita, sobre todo los divertidos madrigales renacentistas que anuncian cada consulta, creando un leitmotiv para cada personaje. El apartado sonoro en general es impecable.
En comparación el apartado gráfico es básico, con gráficos 2D a modo de recortables de papel y animaciones muy limitadas, pero funciona, recuerda a un teatro de guiñoles.
El juego oficialmente está solo en inglés y es un inglés que puede ser complicado, ya que utiliza giros anticuados casi shakespearianos, haciéndolo poco accesible al público hispanohablante. ¡Hasta ahora! He pasado los últimos meses traduciéndolo al español y os aseguro que durante el proceso he aprendido más de lo que nunca quise saber sobre enfermedades venéreas del siglo XVI. I expected this to be nice and all but it "verily" surprised me – it may not be much gameplay-wise but with its historical details, its wittily fleshed out cast of characters, its clever social criticism and its brilliant dark humour I think this is a true gem of a game!
This is a very strange game. There's no action to it-- you're just choosing between different options in the advice you give various characters living in 1600's London. It has a quirky appeal, watching life unfold through a rather satirical lens, but probably only for those who enjoy odd facts about history and/or medicine.

Astrologaster is an amazing display of what bringing together historical research and game design can do. It's an engaging and genuinely funny story with very a very high production value. Being an astrology nerd helps but is not required.
Just make sure you don't go in expecting a choose-your-own-adventure type of game. This is for all intends and purposes a visual novel, and while you can choose between different diagnoses and predictions to the visitors that come to the good doctor for advise, this can for the most part only affect your character's relationship with them, not the overall flow of the story.
This game took me 5-6 hours to complete. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I loved the art, the historical context, and the many little funny parts included, as well as the challenge of figuring out the best readings for various characters and situations. Would definitely recommend for fans of the English Renaissance period.

I don't understand why this game isn't more popular. I think it's silly and fun and interesting. I've played through it multiple times (usually skipping the singing), but it was cool to see the different endings. The price is fair for what you get.

A funny visual novel style game where your astrological advice will determine how happy and trusting your patients are with your work. This is important because you need at least recommendations from 8 of them to cheat your way to a proper medical license. In my playthrough however, I came 5% short on the happiness meter for my 8th recommendation. What a load of fa la la la la la la la la la.

Nay, not only the Old English tongue but also behold the consequences of mine own decisions, which hath utterly captivated me, to the point that I did play through the whole game in but 7.5 hours on a single day!
It is truly a lovingly and historically wrought comedy about the life of the unlicensed doctor and astrologer, Master Simon Forman, set in the decades around the year of our Lord 1600.
The musical interludes are simply delightful, as is the accent of each soul that seeketh counsel.
Methinks the game hath also stirred in me a great curiosity to fathom more about the historical happenings in England during that time, so I shall verily delve deeper into English history (and also into the Old English phrases which I do absolutely cherish!).
I shall also peruse the link to the case summaries of Doctor Simon Forman, which remain preserved in their original handwritten manner in the Bodleian Library of Oxford.
This game is most heartily and unreservedly recommended!

I really enjoyed the humorous take on Shakespeare's London. Highly recommended if you just want of afternoon distraction with some goofiness sprinkled in there.
What delights my about Astrologaster is statement it makes about astrology as a whole. You are simulating someone who believes very deeply in the power of astrology, and when you come to terms with it as a player it's mostly hogwash. In fact, "Doctor" Forman often just uses the latest tidbit of information he's discovered from his previous conversations to provide insightful "readings" into the future of others. To boot, he somehow squeezes his way into bedding any female he can. Often manipulating them through his authority.
What a piece of work Simon Forman was, and what an absolutely gorgeous piece of art Astrologaster is to capture him.
this didn't feel like 4h. it felt longer. in the best way possible.
the voice acting is great, the songs work very well with the theme and the stories & characters are great fun.
definitely something you can play more than once, considering that there are probably different outcomes for different choices.
two things to consider:
you play one, continuous safe. so you can't go back and change any of your decision to see how it plays out; which means you will have to invest the full (aprox 4h) play time to go through the whole story again. I'd have loved to see some kind of chapter index that lets you replay from any point in the story.
the game needs you to click & drag the page to get to the next one. while it makes sense for the "pop up book" kind of art style, having an option to just click would make this game more accessible.
It was amusing at first. It quickly became repetitive and not amusing.

Этот факт хорошо зарыли в графике и механиках, но технически перед нами визуальная новелла. Причем не просто новелла, а симулятор свиданий, ведь мы только и делаем, что встречаемся с разными людьми и прокачиваем очки отношений.
Удивительное.
Представьте, что Форрест Гамп родился в золотой век Англии, эпоху Елизаветы I. Только зовут его Саймон Форман, и про него самого есть статья в англоязычной Википедии. Так же, как герой Тома Хэнкса, наш Саймон становится свидетелем множества исторических событий и общается с множеством реальных исторических личностей. Мы наблюдаем отрезок его жизни от лондонской чумы (1592) по тот самый Пороховой заговор (1606), целых 14 лет! И все это время он, живя в Ламбете, пригороде тогдашнего Лондона, пытается получить лицензию доктора медицины и астрологии. И на фоне некто Уильям Ш. пишет и ставит пьесы, Уолтер Рэли ищет Эльдорадо, англикане щемят католиков, а граф Эссекса гоняет испанцев. Разве что разгром Непобедимой Армады (1588) воткнули неисторично.
Плюсы.
- Это не только симулятор свиданий, это еще детективная новелла. Отчасти это медицинский детектив а-ля "Доктор Хаус", и знание болезней и симптомов реально поможет игроку; отчасти - исторический детектив, тут уже пригодится знание эпохи. Но стоит помнить, что река истории с трудом меняет свое русло, поэтому каких-то кардинальных изменений не будет.
- Но на одном знании не выедешь. Поскольку приходится набивать очки репутации, периодически нужно льстить, врать и пользоваться инсайдерской информацией ради рекомендаций. События консультаций очень мощно переплетаются между собой, и наш герой, как уж, должен выжить в столкновении интересов множества людей. Особенно цинизм героя (и игрока) чувствуется, когда до вожделенной рекомендации остался один рывок, и ты врешь с три короба клиенту, а потом идешь смотреть, как его казнят в Тауэре.
- Английский! Он здесь не просто сложный, он шекспировский! Но для понимания контекста и решений плюс-минус достаточно опыта обычных англоязычных новелл. Вдобавок все чудесно озвучено, а каждый визит посетителя сопровождает хор. Хор!
- Знание других языков мне тоже пригодилось. Например, испанского ("caramba que quema!") и латыни (посмотрите название самой популярной ачивки). А еще протагонист употребляет таинственное слово "pogrom", которое войдет в британский лексикон лет через триста.
- У игры отличный посыл: воля звезд настолько противоречива, что ее можно толковать, как душе угодно.
Минусы.
- Совсем по мелочам: игра немного затянута; в одном месте перепутали реплику персонажа.
Как понять, что прошел отличную историческую игру? Следующие два часа ты сидишь в Вкикпедии, чтобы узнать, как все было на самом деле.

This was so much fun! It is for a history buff, or at least someone who is interested in history. Great voice acting, singing, so much humor! The choices matter, history be damned, being right doesn't always help.

The style, art, voice acting are superb.
However they forgot to include a “game”.
The only input the player has is making choices where the player has no ability to predict the outcome.
You could make random choices and end up with a better result than your playthrough.
Perhaps the developers were trying to make a statement about the uselessness of Astrology, but it doesn’t make for an interesting experience.
I prefer game where I can use my mind to gain an edge.

Astrologaster pro mě byl překvapením. Hru samu o sobě bych si nejspíše nekoupila, ale byla součástí balíčku a nakonec jsem ráda, že jsem měla možnost si ji zahrát. Je rozhodně originální, zejména soundtrackem a svým humorem. Ze začátku mě dost bavilo představování pacientů a pacientek a "listování" příběhem, ale po čase to už trochu unavovalo a dialogy občas byly dlouhé a nechtěly se mi proklikávat až do konce, možná proto, že jsem se o postavách nedozvěděla dostatek informací pro diagnózy, a tak to čtení z hvězd bylo spíš věštění z křišťálové koule (ale možná to byl účel?). Nebo možná proto, že některé výrazy ve staré angličtině/nebo lékařské (?) jsem neznala a nepamatovala jsem si je, když byly potřeba (při zkouškách doktora). Hra je to každopádně chytrá, ukazuje danou dobu bez příkras, poukazuje na intriky a zákulisní hry, tak jak to mám ráda v kvalitních historických filmech.

Learned more about history than after nine years of school
This game was an absolute gem. The music was immaculate, the story line very entertaining, and the graphics simple yet adorable. More than well worth the money.

不管是每一幕开始前的阿卡贝拉还是Forman和客人的对话，都非常的舞台剧。
立体书的艺术风格和这种舞台剧的感觉也结合的很好！（就是场景单一，到后面就有些单调了）
我玩的时候有太多搞笑的心路历程了，但是写出来都难免要剧透。

Allen太太前来寻求帮助，表示最近颁布了居民必须每周日去教堂做礼拜的法令，而她作为一个虔诚的天主教徒，不愿意去参加新教的仪式。缺席了数周后已经引起了邻里的不满，邻居扬言要举报她。
[spoiler] Allen：如果我不去做礼拜，我将会遭受谴责。可如果我去了，我的灵魂将会下地狱！
我：你面临着违法法律的危险，这是不可轻视的，可能会威胁到你和你丈夫的生活。你应该去参加每周日的礼拜。

A chunderingly good game.
对占星和中世纪风格很感兴趣购入的。本作占星确实有点见人说人话见鬼说鬼话的感觉（？）很真实。但是主要是英语文本确实有点难（词汇方面），没玩下去去看了实况。看到后面只是在感叹每个人物社会关系都好混乱，因为对历史不太了解所以大部分感觉是在听八卦。

This is a choices matter story set up like you're reading a pop-up book. The game is fully voice-acted with musical comedy stanzas beautifully sung in between each guest you see. You make many choices mostly based on your comprehension skills, vibes, and the tongue-in-cheek concept that astrology is "just telling people what they want to hear." But be careful, just because someone wants something to happen doesn't mean it should, or will.
It's wild to remember that large swaths of people way back then really did believe some of these silly things. This fact makes Astrologaster even better. This is probably the smartest and funniest game I've played all year.
A genuine work of art. Funny, genuinely witty, gorgeous, and it manages it all without constraining the player (it feels very interactive and reactive to player choice).
An interesting interactive narrative that successfully moves the player along a storyline from start to finish, as the audience continues along the path of the astrologer to discover if the doomed doctor escapes execution. Characters come and go providing the background for the astrologer's story and engaging the audience, who want to find out how their story ends as well. More movement could have been provided to make the game less static. But all in all, a nice read. Rated 7 out of 10.

Astrologaster follows a doctor who uses astrology to diagnose and treat his patients. The goal is to earn letters of recommendation. I enjoyed it! I suggest buying it during a sale! ヽ(•‿•)ノ ❀
This is such a funny and fun interactive fiction game. The characters are very well done and the voice acting is excellent. The art looks like a pop up story book and the music is excellent and fits perfectly. If you like highbrow artsy Shakespeare type stuff, this is a fun experience.
If Shakespeare (who features in this!) was a video game; a bit snobby, "highbrow", artsy-fartsy blah, an interesting interactive museum exhibit maybe, but not much of a game. Clearly made with love but unless you have a keen interest in a very specific period of history maybe it's not for you, as it wasn't for me.

This game is a hidden gem! The humor is sharp, the characters are wonderfully eccentric, and the story is full of clever twists. Playing as an astrologer trying to diagnose patients based on the stars is such a fun and refreshing concept. The art style is gorgeous, and the voice acting is top-notch, making the entire experience feel like a whimsical stage play. If you enjoy narrative-driven games with a lot of humor, Astrologaster is a must-play!

Юмор британский - с неожиданно жестокими «панчлайнами», дорога к которым была выстлана вашими благими намерениями. Пациенты тоже один краше другого: например, жена богача, который шлёт ей из Америки испорченные продукты и галлюциногены, а она потом на званых ужинах позорится. Визиты сопровождаются прекрасными песнопениями с ржачными текстами.
Чтобы поставить правильный диагноз, нужно внимательно читать субтитры и дедуцировать, но отыгрывать квалифицированного врача необязательно. Некоторые посетители настолько глубоко погрузились в свой воображаемый мир, что на правду обидятся, поэтому им можно просто поддакивать и придумывать новые приключения. Этично ли это? Ну так ведь Саймона и дипломированные медики за своего не считают, поэтому с него взятки гладки. Took me 5.7 hours to play a full round. I'll have to say I enjoyed it even I'm not familiar with W.S. and his works. An enjoyable and fun game that you can read like a short story when you're bored.
I love this little gem of a game. Its writing is really funny, the mechanics are good and I love the musical part of this as well, which is rare. There isn't really anything like this that I can think of. The replayability is surprisingly good too, the jokes are good enough that I don't tire of them. I play this about once a year when I feel like it. If you love good writing and laughing every minute or so, this is for you.

É difícil avaliar Astrologaster, o jogo não me agradou de início mas foi crescendo em mim, porém, após certo ponto tive a sensação de que a história se estendeu demais. O que tenho certeza é de que foi uma experiência única com boa ambientação e respeito com o contexto histórico até onde vai o meu saber.
Um ponto negartivo que considero importante é que eu não senti a leitura astral sendo aplicada no jogo e nem o menor esforço de introduzi-la ao jogador, era apenas um meio de mascarar decisões arbitrárias que seriam feitas para o avanço da história.
Eu não entendo absolutamente nada sobre astrologia e a má aplicação dela neste jogo me fez querer mais distância ainda, então entendo que o jogo falhou em sua proposta principal, mesmo não sendo ruim.

A hilarious retelling of some of Simon Forman's life and practice. I wish this game were more successful, it is fully and brilliantly voice-acted, has a distinct art style and is smart in its' portrayal of the events from the Elizabethan age.

A thoughtful game with a pleasingly put together UI that makes the utmost of the visual novel style. Also links to actual codices from Simon, if you haven't had enough of him by the end. Which I most certainly had and was pleased to depart from his cringeing sycophantism. It was very uncomfortable to endure his perpetual begging for credentials for hours on end. Historically accurate, of course and likely toned down so it can't be faulted. It's possible to get all achievements on a single play-through, if you play slowly and carefully first time round. After this example of a good science history VN I am deeply craving for a visual novel about Newton VS Leibniz to tell the untold tale of discovery. The single-room setting of the VN would be appropriate as it is well known that Newton rarely left his lab under any circumstances.

Laugh out loud funny, with numerous amusing story lines and wacky, memorable characters.
Endured a cardiac passion during an over-exertion within the bedchambers which caused an imbalance of black bile within my system, resulting in a vicious upward chundering and an uncontrollable purging out of my tender fundament during the gameplay of this historical masterpiece based on the OG occultist and astrologer, Simon Forman.

I wanted to love it - History! Medicine! Comedy! Astrology! - but found the gameplay to be so repetitive that it became boring rather quickly. There were some funny jokes and references to modern culture in the writing, and the musical interludes were beautifully done, but it was otherwise monotonous. I gave up around three hours when I reached the first (?) [spoiler] trial [/spoiler] scene, and while I can imagine that maybe things change after that, I'm just not interested enough to find out.
The game is truly unusual and unique. Playing it feels like seeing a musical play, it's full of good humour, fun, ridiculous characters and a lot of good-hearted songs.
The dialogue is funny and well written, and the gameplay is not too repetitive since the game is short and focuses more on the story.
If you like history, then there's even more reasons to believe why you'll enjoy the game, since major events are often referenced, and you can base your prophecies upon them.
As a history lover and an avid story games player, I truly enjoyed playing Astrologaster.
I don't see any reason why not to try the game, it's unique and funny, it's cheap, and it's short so you're not really committing to anything. Go give it a try!

Se você curte Astrologia, é um jogo bem interessante. É mais indicado pra quem já estudou e entende o significado de planetas, signos e casas. Não tem legenda em português, portanto você tem que se sentir confortável lendo inglês.
a short (~5h) comedy game set in Shakespearean times, presented cleverly like a pop-up book. we follow a doctor who relies on astrology to treat people, among them actual historical figures, and solve issues of personal and national importance. you have to make a choice - tell the truth or what someone wants to hear? and bear the consequences? either way, it's funny and completely worth your time.
and it's voiced by the Halsin's voice actor in Baldur's Gate 3 Dave Jones??? I didn't even notice and now I have to replay it...

Dolar üzerinden hesap yapıp siz değer mi değmez mi düşünün: 4-5 saat, tek oyunda %100 başarım mümkün. Oyun bitirme oranınızı yükseltmek için oynayabileceğiniz bir oyun. Bunun dışında tekrar tekrar oynayayım da eğleneyim denecek bir şeyi yok bence, zaten her karakter için ideal bir hikaye var, onu tamamlayınca oyun da en ideal haliyle tamamlanıyor.

Masterpiece. It's short, but it's brilliant and absolutely hilarious. The singers that they brought on for the project really gave it the necessary atmosphere, which is a fantastic blend of Monty Python and some solid Shakespearean sex jokes. 11/10

as a doctor(ish) in 16th-century england, you managed to come up with a remedy for the plague, by way of the most scientific method of all: consulting the stars. strike while the iron is hot, as they say, so might as well cure or otherwise assist ailing querents by [b]making deductions and decisions and mayhap learn something about history in a roundabout way[/b]. they'll keep coming back even if you misjudge everything, but as an unlicensed do-gooder, your other goal is to [b]get a medical license if possible[/b] based on querent feedback, so try to make an effort.
[b]only autosaves without any indication[/b], the weakest aspect of any game, especially one with so many choices. there are [b]more than a dozen characters with intertwined lives, each with about 6 cases[/b]. I already blundered the initial consultation with the second one, of course, and seeing as it's [b]about 6 hours[/b], it's not exactly a quick second or third run-through to see alternative, if not necessarily more fruitful, outcomes. still better than 10-hour telltale offerings with unskippable everything. also, negative outcomes aren't necessarily bad and vice versa.
looking at the save file, [b]autosaves happen constantly[/b] and a case is a bit of dialog followed by a decision, so while not ideal, it's just about forgivable. you need 8 letters of recommendation for the license, which I miraculously managed. I was more curious about providing (and hearing) alternative advice but couldn't be bothered to click through everything else again.
[b]stellar laugh-out-loud writing, gorgeous pop-up book visuals, fantastic voice acting and singing narration.[/b] separate volumes, subtitles, a couple of resolutions and windowed mode make up the sparse settings, unnecessarily divided into multiple screens but available anytime. [b]pausable and skippable dialog[/b], very considerate and rare, so why in ♥♥♥♥'s name would you have [b]unskippable credits[/b]? click it in the main menu, get locked out of doing anything for a while, alt+f4. also, the save gets deleted after completing the game but the only way is forward, so not much point in keeping it.
for once, [b]style didn't completely overshadow substance and functionality[/b], like in many other cases, though again, manual saves and multiple save slots, people. there are also a bunch of minor bugs, glitches and typos left. regardless, it's a [b]delightful game absolutely worth experiencing[/b], maybe even more than once.
