While I really like the idea behind this game and the way it plays. The main problem that I have is the performance being so horrible. If you're able to see my PC specs in the new steam reviews then you'll wonder is it that someone with these specs is having a hard time hitting 30 FPS in singleplayer on lowest settings. The UI honestly feels bad once you're in game, and the gunplay feels worse. Currently, the in game tutorials aren't that good so once you do them and then jump into either singleplayer match (the reason why your FPS sucks because everything is singlecore) or multiplayer (the only way to get above 30FPS) you'll still be confused by some stuff. The game still stutters quite a bit, and I'm not sure how that happens when this is such an old game. I really wanted to like this game, as it on paper has everything that I've wanted in a combined arms FPS game for the last decade. I do like some of the classes, vehicles, and weapons as they're cool along with the war budget feature (kind of annoying but interesting). The game might need another decade like Star Citizen before it's ready to be played (or maybe never also like Star Citizen).

Best sci-fi combined arms game nobody has heard of. The on ground combat is like battlefield, then the space combat is like the classic battlefront games done MUCH better (no offense battlefront 2, everyone still loves you).

The ground combat combined arms gameplay done with the 64 player format makes you forget you aren't playing battlefield very quickly, the maps aren't empty either (looking at you 2042), and there's an obvious ton of effort put into the maps by the developers. The ONLY complaint I can think about is the questionable progression system, where you start the game with everything available to you, but in order to equip more of the best gear you need to level up one of three XP paths in order to get more supply points (just because you can equip the best armor doesn't mean you can equip the best weapons or gear with that armor, good luck killing AIA with your bare hands).

The space combat has very little to complain about, if anything. Being able to punch a big enough hole into a ship, then fly into that hole with a dropship to create a spawn point so you can then destroy the ship from the inside out is ridiculously fun, even more fun when you destroy the core and you have a 1 minute timer to escape the ship before it explodes with everyone in it, fighting your way to the hangar is something you only see in singleplayer campaign settings. The space missions also translate into ground combat from time to time, which is a nice touch (albeit not planetside ground combat, just on stations and asteroids, still, you can only expect so much).

The fact that this game has not been made more popular is criminal. And while the devs are still pumping out updates with a 1.0 release on the way, it's an absolute shame knowing that this game could have had so much more if it were more widely known.

Not that I think this takes away from the game at all, but one thing I frequently think about, as it is why I found this game at all, is Dust 514 on the old PS3, connected to the EVE universe where battles had a tangible impact on the overall EVE universe. This game does have a barebones faction system, the ULA vs the AIA, and it would be really cool if this game got more publicity than it did if they had some kind of overarching galaxy status determined by what faction the player chose to support out of game (obviously you can't always control what faction you get if the server is full in game). This does seem impractical given the lack of support the game has gotten but I am writing that out for everyone who passed this game up, we could have had a real one here, its your fault. Love you devs.

The AI kinda sucks ass with zero sense of self-preservation and no balance. This review will be quite unorganized like the game. It's just not fun. Kinda just a confusing mess. There's a lot of different moving parts. The AI will run at you in large groups, in a straight line, and will run through heavy suppressive fire without a care in the world, and only humans count for balance. Nothing is explained, not even readying up for matches. If there's a single human more on one team, the opposing team gets a huge -20% respawn time reduction, making the bot swarm even worse. The UI feels so cluttered. By default you become squad leader, and again, squad commands are not obvious or explained, so you handicap your team. Little to no progress has been made for over a decade it feels like. Vehicle controls feel AWFUL and they feel very sluggish and bad, especially fighters. This game tries to copy SWBF2 for space combat, but it doesn't take its fun controls for some (awful) reason

This game has unbelievable potential; The array and variety of interesting and fun weapons, all available from the start, ensure that the player may fulfill any of a variety of roles that suit their fancy any given time. I quite enjoy the Plasma rifle and the repeating 30mm Cannon! The leveling system is rewarding, allowing budget increases to loadouts in three categories, which further increases customization options. The customization options themselves are extensive, with the changes that the player may make to their weapons, vehicles and gear often being quite palpable. The maps are not only visually amazing, but also well designed and fleshed out with details that fit perfectly into gameplay experience. The bots are humanlike and make for satisfying opponents to slay, and when multiple humans are on the same team against bots, the bot team's respawn rate increases. I quite enjoy this in the sense that the game can be played as a sort of tactical co-op bot slaying shooter fest. It absolutely flabbergasts me that this game does not have more active players, and if you are reading this, THIS GAME IS WORTH EVERY PENNY.
In a gaming industry oversaturated with soulless gray slop, Angels Fall First sits humbly as a hidden, beautifully polished gem in the rough, just waiting to be discovered and adored. This game has an abundance of heart and soul. I have not seen one single microtransaction. I have not been offered a single pay-to-win mechanic. There is no subscription, no outside service to join. Just a shooter that's easy to pick up, feels good to play, with cool sci-fi weapons and engaging, nuanced gameplay. To the Devs, I salute you, and I thank you for making this game. Keep at it, and don't give up. This game is already amazing and worth the money at the time of review. I sincerely look forward to seeing what it will become in the future, and I will do anything I can to help this game grow.

Pretty good AI, ranking system and unique commander system. New Beta 1.0 version is shaping up to be pretty good. Support a non aaa slop indie labor of love.

Highly underrated game, the combined arms aspect of ship and infantry, aswell as the simple but effective vehicle and infantry modes are very intresting. The combat. altough chaotic is fun, and with the amount of weapon options to test out, also stays fun. The game itself looks great visually, with a style wich reminds me a bit of the homeworld series (a good thing). Overall i highly reccomend this game, and it pains me to see it having so few active players

Devs, if you're reading this, I'm begging you, for the love of everything, make this game free-to-play and just add some cosmetic microtransactions. (never thought I'd ever utter these words.) Or do a free weekend and send keys to streamers for promotion. Anything.

Just please, do *something* that will bring players into this game. No, you don't need another 10 years of early access. Just release it, please.

This is an amazing multiplayer game, that has no players. And hasn't "fully" released for more than a decade. Maps are huge, full of variety, with amazing design. Gameplay has basically everything you want in a big scale sci-fi shooter, there's nothing BF 2142, Planetside and SW Battlefront 2 has that this game doesn't. (This game has even more, even.) Gunplay and graphics have obviously aged a lot though, it feels like a game from 2011 (which it more or less technically is)

I've known about this game for a long time but I didn't want to play with bots. Finally gave in and played a bit. These types of games are not enjoyable with bots, unfortunately. I just find myself saying "I wish I could play this with actual players"

For an older game this is pretty dam good. Tons of ship, weapons, player types, customizations, maps, etc. And decent graphics and bots. Plus, it's cheap, and I like supporting these guys.
I remeber using artwork made by Stranglet in the eraly 2000's as desktop wallpaper. That was before this was even a game. The concepts looked good. And then life happned and it fell off my radar. Now here I am 20+ years later.

I haven't played this game since 2016, but I just saw it in my library.

As of 2016, it was an awesome space fighting game. Like if classic star wars battlefront got an awesome sequel. You want to board a capital space ship, kill your way through with your buddies, and sacrifice yourself to blow up the reactor core? You can do that! You want to fight off enemy fighters and drop ships by nimbly weaving around and through a complex megastructure? You go Anakin Skywalker!

What about mechanical depth? It's moderately deep across the board. A bit more than Battlefield but less than something like Arma or Squad. Some of the game modes are mechanically more complex, but not hard to grasp. Ignore all the reviews with less than about 8 hours. They didn't play long enough to learn any of the mechanics.

I've always thought that the biggest problem with this game is marketing. It seems like it was made by guys who are good at and love making games, but don't have a knack for marketing. I'm going to try to get back into this game now that I have friends who would like it. After almost 10 years of development, I'm sure it's even better.

To the dev reading these reviews. It's blind leading the blind, but maybe you would benefit from giving out copies to mid to low tier twitch streamers? Maybe have a big event that you invite all of them and do whatever it is you do to mobilize your community to help showcase the game.
You could also try to get on one of the weird promotional steam sales or and offer a free weekend? You have a gem, but no one knows you do.

This seemed like exactly the kind of game I was after - chasing the Battlefront 2003 vibe.
However, the games engine, or something, make it simply unplayable.

Even with lowered settings and trying to mess with the INI the UI blur is horrible. No matter what I tried I could not get UI elements to stop jittering around my screen, and firing made everything 10x worse.

Maybe if this game was ported to another engine, or the devs took a long time to work out the kinks it would be good, but given its 10 years old in Early Access I assume it is either abadonware, or a solo dev unlikely to be able to fix the engine issues.

Its a massive shame too, because this seemed to fulfil the long-endurance AI battles I remember enjoying so much on my PS2 as a kid.

If you don't mind the blurriness and jittering of the UI I am sure its fine, but for me its a non-starter.

It's a really cool game, I'm not sure why it never took off. If I had to guess, I'd say it's the lack of tutorials or clear instruction on how to play.

Neat that it still gets updates, though. The bots are pretty good, so playing solo is still fun.

It has everything: Halo isc combat, starwars-isc themes, the kind of microtransaction free cosmetic customization i would KILL to see more of, and autistic levels of loadout customization!

The devs say that they got old making this game.
I got old watching them do it.
I stumbled across this game in the mid oughts when they were doing their thing behind a cool webpage, no steam. I kept my eye on it without buying it because I'm a sp strategy gamer with a thing for scifi, so was my bag adjacent. Watched them for what has turned into 20 odd years as they stuck with it. I just bought the game, not because I'll enjoy it (it's still not my thing) but because these devs deserve it. This kind of dedication is hard to find in the world, let alone in game development, and I wanted to, finally, give them my monetary appreciation for their long journey. It's not much, but it seemed the best way to let them know that they have impressed at least one old school gamer.

A video game that blends Battlefield 2142, with Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (classic), this by far the best combined arms game to exist.

Although the aesthetics may draw some people away, but the Gameplay says otherwise, with deep customization for Infantry, Ground Vehicles, Aircraft, Space Fighter and even customization for the Big Ships.

Each game mode has it's own maps. It's really worth you time playing this game, and you can also play locally both with LAN and offiline with bots.

I have FULL confidence that if even a little bit of marketing is done for this game, it'll hit the FPS scene like Silksong. I managed to coordinate enough dudes to have a full squad of players among the whole AI team, and we had a blast with the npc difficulty maxed out. It was a breath of fresh air lined up next to damn near every other title out rn.

Single player is still a lot of fun. Public servers run well, each map has a different set of objectives with an awesome mashup between Infantry/Vehicle/Space Ship combat.

Angels Fall First is what i'd describe as the Battlefront 3 we never got.

It's a sci-fi, large scale combined arms shooter, with a mix of infantry combat, ground and air vehicle combat and space dogfighting and ship boarding.

As a multiplayer shooter, it's servers are kiiiiiinda dead, but I think there's pick-up games here and there.

However, it has very solid and fun singleplayer computer bot games, akin to Battlefront 2.

Technically still in Early Access, but it's pretty much a fully fledged title.

At first, it can be kinda confusing to get into, with the many somewhat poorly designed menus and the complex loadout system (Albeit, it's not that bad once you figure it out)

Unfortunately, on the bad side of the coin, this game looks and feels quite old, and it basically is. It's essentially a 2009 game, that's been built upon for several years and was originally a mod for Unreal Tournament 3. As such, it also still is on the long out of date Unreal Engine 3.
As such, this game is filled with tech debt from 10+ years ago and might as well a lost Mechanicus artifact that has been rediscovered by the Mechanicus, who no longer have any clue how the hell it works. It performs pretty badly for it's visuals due to some questionable optimization choices, ESPECIALLY in space battles.

Space battles I tend to get sub 40 frames in on a BEEFY rig made to run modern games at high FPS 1440p.

That is to say, as a relic of a bygone era, there is not much like it out there any more and as such, I generally recommend it.

this would be THE battlefront killer if it had any players, but even if you play with bots you'll find a decade of smooth polish for game that has seamless infantry, tank, and starship action.

both factions seem generic but really, have style, the combat is like quake on the ground and unique in the stars, with the ability to board ships of all sizes, all of which have full interiors

i played this game seven years ago, thought it was a bit janky but good, and I play it now to find something comparable to any AAA game with a full orchestral score

recommend, either for bot lobbies or to play with your friends + bots, for 18 dollars this is a steal

Ill keep it short and simple

Around 90% of the time i have zero clue what is going on. The other 10% is me dying or just shooting at the bots. The game is very wide in what it offers class wise. But i have ZERO clue what is best for what. Ground combat is actually neat but the game runs and is optimized poorly and DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THE VIDEOS. If you want a game to bot stomp this is fine. But if you are getting it. Just get it on sale.

This game can be summed up in one word. FRUSTRATING.

I couldn't even finish my second match because the game was so frustrating to play. Things from terrible Bloom on weapons, incompetent vehicle AI, to truly head scratching game design leaves this game to be such a frustrating experience.

- Bloom on weapons is EGREGIOUS. Games should reward you leading your shots well and good aiming but not this game. Bloom will make sure if you're not barrel stuffing the enemy, have fun watching your shots go all over the place, rarely hitting your target.

- Lack of ammo. This game is so bad at giving you ammo to fight with. Every life I had was the constant problem of having barely any ammo to fight with. About 90% of my lives ended with me running around with a knife because of how pathetic an amount of ammo you are given for all your weapons.

- Health/Ammo packs are LIMITED! What brain dead dev thought this was ok? Why on earth would you limit players to only being able to put down three health/ammo packs before not being able to put down anymore? This is incredibly stupid and this right here almost made me quit within the first 5 minutes of playing this game when I quickly found this out. Absolutely brain dead game design. It quickly got to the point just like in my previous ammo comment that I was FORCED to run around with just a knife because I wasn't around any teammates to give me ammo, and I was either out of the "ammo" to place down more health/ammo packs or naturally with a class that didn't have them. So, so stupid.

- Giving commands is impossible. My only squadmate (was never in a full squad for some reason) kept spamming me to give them orders but anytime I opened the map to do so, it's like the game ignored what I was doing. I kept clicking on him and nothing happened. Pressing the C key to issue orders was bare bones and terribly done. I can't just look at an objective and tell him to go there. It's really poorly done here.

- Creating a class is a joke. You have to balance THREE DIFFERENT BARS. Something like combat level, support level, and something else. Adding/changing anything to your class effects these 3 bars, making it an absolute infuriating experience just trying to customize your class. Really terrible game design. Again, it's like the devs of this game tried to make such simple things as frustrating as possible.

- AI in vehicles are dumb. Brain dead. During the second game before I quit in frustration, the AI got stuck in spawn with all our vehicles. If they somehow made it out, they got stuck somewhere or would just drive into a bocx and keep flooring the gas, not smart enough to just back up. It seems the pathing of the AI is terrible and it doesn't help that the area that they spawned in on the map I was playing was so unnecessarily tight and small that made getting out of the area a pain, even for me.

- Turrets are insanely over powered. You can drop small turrets in this game and they will kill you in about a second. It's ridiculous. I can fight someone and they can hit me with every bullet and I'll die in about twice the time it takes for a dumb little turret to kill me. Game is obviously not balanced and I don't have the stomach to keep playing to find out what other garbage is unbalanced.

- Random fast traveling on the map(?) I was in a mech after calling it in and I clicked some random icon on the map and all the sudden I was somewhere else on the map and lost my mech? Why on Earth is this even a thing? Why is there no notification/confirmation about what's going to happen and if I am ok with it happening? Again, another brain dead mechanic that is unnecessary and frustrating with no good explanation.

- Game never telling me what the two gamemodes were. When I first loaded the game into the horrible UI, I kept looking for any information on what Incursion and Territories were, the two gamemodes in this game and couldn't find anything. No simple little tool-tip to explain what the gamemodes were like. It wasn't until finding what Incursion was IN A LOADING SCREEN is what I learned what Incursion was. Basic information like this not present is an incredible and lazy oversight by the devs.

Like I said earlier, I couldn't even finish my second match due to all the frustrating and poor game decisions the devs made with this game. From the awful AI, lack of ammo, etc, I couldn't stomach anymore. Game is not worth your time.

So I've purchased this back in Feb 2018. I haven't played it a lot but have recently picked it back up and been mostly playing on a solo. It's an older engine so things are bit clunkier than you would get from a modern game but this would have been a great game released sooner than today. That I think is the absolute worst I have to say.

With that said the older engine means it will run on older hardware and make it more accessible to newer players not on the latest and greatest. This game clearly focusing heavily on team play and not individual valor. The space game is not much different that was has been previously released on the Unreal Engine in the past. The customization however is robust. I recommend giving it a try but it has a bit of steep curve to learn so expect to die often even in solo play.

This game has a lot of potential but I gather it's a small team that has real jobs as well so I bet there time has been hampered. They still have an active Discord community to this day as of 20 July 2025. Just not a lot of people playing actively on the servers. I prefer not to engage in PVP myself anymore so I'm not on there but I don't mind COOP with friends when possible on anything. It's worth a look at the very least. I still enjoy it myself but I've only got like 20+ hours.

Its the game I always wanted to play as a kid.
Its a bit like Star Wars Battlefront 2, but you can fly e v e r y ship.

The Space combat is fast and fun.

The gunplay is interesting, there are many loadout combinations and a ton of customization options,
but there is no real crowd control options, so fights can feel a bit odd at times.
The bots are a mixed blessing but overall do their job pretty well.
It still feels like a very good Unreal Tournament mod, so I guess thats a matter of preference.

This game is a ton of fun, even for just a few matches in the evening on a work day.

Got this game as a gift and I must say, It was fun for a while even with offline bots.

It's a shame that multiplayer is devoided of players to play with, considering this is the closest to a Planetside 2(never played it) type gameplay that I really want to play, until I've heard about the hacker problem that still remains unresolved.

Still despite all that, I'd recommend this game and hope the devs are still working on the game.

The game's light pollution is too severe, and the environmental lighting generated by firing cannot be turned off in the settings. The game does not have Chinese characters and has a large amount of text, which looks particularly cumbersome. Okay, this game is awesome, that's the gist of it, but I'll recount a story showing just how awesome it is.
So, i was going for the Leapfrogging through Space Achievement, I chose a map where there were vehicles and even gunships.
There was some guy in an LAV camping the objective. I only had a knife.
That didn't stop me.
I ran up to the LAV and started wailing on the driver, soon enough, he dies, and the objective is safe.
I teabag the bastard, and immediately explode into tiny little bits because of a mech.
I love this game. 8/10

HUD is a is an absolute mess. The particle effects look nice and make for intense scenes but they also obliterate situational awareness. The space combat sections exemplify how bad the radar is. And the game doesn't have any tutorials for the more nuanced unit like the capital ships or heavy land unit. You could make the argument that the bot support makes up for it but the game 86s that notion by singling you out whenever you spawn in said unit. In other words the game will outright punish you for not knowing how to use a certain unit and will not teach you how it works either. Simply put, unless you started playing during the early stages of early access, you're going to need someone to teach how to play. If you can't find someone to teach you or you're anti-social then go play Battlefield. I got it for the Summer Sale and I wish I didn't.

Back in the good old days, there was this amazing game, Section 9, which had a futuristic settings, with Starcraft 2 like marines duking it out on battlefields with armored vehicles. Somehow, Angel Fall First, feels like this game, except they decided to go a notch above by having an amazing gaming package with:

1. Two game modes (Incursion (similar to Rush from Battlefield series) and Territories (the regular battlefield experience).
2. Two type of settings (Ground Battles, and Space Battles).
3. Amazing weapons
4. Amazing variety of ground vehicles from little buggy, little apcs, little tanks. and one type of air vehicle (choppa-like) for ground battle and there's even a battle suit/mech thingy as if it was inspired by that one from Avatar (that movie with blue space monkeys).
5. A great variety of vehicles (little fighter, little bomber, not so little frigates)

And it has working and challenging bots.

TLDR:
It's Section 9 with battlefront and battlefield elements.
Good variety of maps, weapons and vehicles.
Functional bots.
Decently Price.

Verdict: Buy it.

It is strange that game didn't have his own fame since it is still a good game . This game combine perfectly the scifi vibe for piloting warships and Interceptors alongside bombers and Gunship and yet still allow operation on Ground akin to a Battlefield except far much more better . Недооценённая игра, содержащая в себе кучу интересных механик и возможностей. Создатели игры напрямую указывали, что вдохновлялись режимом Assault из Unreal Tournament-а, и это заметно.
Интересное:
- Куча-куча всяких разных пушек от пистолетиков до плазменных снайперок
- В целом довольно глубокая система экипировки персонажа, техники, самолётов, космических кораблей
- Разнообразие техники от обычных багги до сверхтяжёлых крейсеров на космических миссиях
- На вышеупомянутых космо-миссиях есть возможность абордажа кораблей.
- Ничего не надо открывать, вся экипировка доступна с самого начала игры, так что экспериментировать можно бесконечно.
Минусы:
- Для своей картинки очень посредственная производительность даже на серверах, где все просчёты идут не на вашем компьютере. Но в целом играбельно даже на средненьких компьютерах с железом десятилетней давности.
- Мёртвый онлайн. Несмотря на 24/7 наличие официальных серверов (Сервера бывают неофициальные и вообще играть можно просто с ботами в соло), игроки приходят и уходят, что не приводит к появлению критической массы игроков для поднятия стабильного онлайна. Со стабильным онлайном игра ультра весёлая, что было доказано хрен знает сколько лет назад, когда игра случайно попала на главную страницу стима.
- Достаточно умные боты чтобы не заскучать без игроков.

I am looking forward to the release of 1.0 , when people will (re) discover this fantastic game. I have been playing more regularly since the latest major update and let me tell you - This is a briliant achievement on the Unreal Engine 3, and gets more fun the more time you put into it (the huge array odf weapons, vehicles and options can be disorienting at first).

While multiplayer servers are mostly dormant as of yet, the NPCs are surprisingly adept and provide lots of challenge (both enemy and your team is capable) the territories game type is great but the incursion types (objective based assaults written around a story setting) are the best.

Angels Fall First has lots of personality and I dare to say even though its graphical engine has one or two generations wide gap between its contemporary peers, art direction is still one of the best I have seen in this kind of sci fi combined arms game.

Sure not perfect as it is early acces when I write it, but there are lots to praise here.
The maps are unique locations with exciting design and nice fine details, map flow is great, the CQC land warfare works well, your kit is highly modular and upgradable. Weapons and vehicles are also well thought out. Music is great and honestly the game surprises me with its features time and time again, especially in the incursion game type. Boarding an enemy station or spaceship while the space battle is raging outside never gets old!

Hats of for the indie devs, I really hope people will rediscover Angels Fall First and its rich lore, locations, its exciting spin on combined arms warfare.

Unironically one of the most refreshing experiences I've had for a shooter in literal years, the best way to describe this game is if Star Wars Battlefront and Halo ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and had a baby that came out riding a skateboard blasting Green Day. If you are sick of modern shooter slop in any way this is the game for you . The only real downside being a very small player base but this is heavily mitigated by the god tier bots.

To be honest, I don't remember how I found it, maybe it was Steam's recommendation. The visuals reminds me very much of Titanfall, and the gameplay is from SW Battlefront and Battlefield BC2. It totally feels like a game of that time (including graphics), in a good way. Many people are unhappy with this, but for me it adds to the atmosphere. A game with huge potential and possibilities. There is one thing tho, almost no one knows about it and a little more than 10 people can play a day. However, you can still play alone against AI, which is no worse and actually well-programmed. Unfortunately, I couldn't play it for too long, since the classic Battlefront is unusual for me, and the UI here is honestly a bit confusing. As soon as you launch it first, you immediately get a menu with a server search or creating it, without tutorials or at least some explaining of the interface parameters. After watching a couple of reviews (of which there aren't many), I decided that I won't make a refund and will give this game a chance some day later, especially since the devs are going to leave the early access, making it 1.0. Perhaps this will be a good chance for more people to know about it. It has to. But please, make localization for other languages in the future, including Russian! It does really need it. Nevertheless, I really want to believe that you will not abandon your work after so many years of development and actually bring AFF to its deserved place in the charts.

Not to be recommended is a good game from a technical point of view. But the last 4 players who still play it actively destroy you with spwan camping.
In my 90 minutes I have never been killed so often by the same player at the spawn.

Grab 2 or 3 and try it but i dont recommend it to play alone
