Good story, but I felt it would've been better as a VN. The minigames you have during the talks aren't quite long or engaging enough to cover the dialogue, so I got pretty fidgety toward the tail-end of the scenes. I also think free-roam isn't the best choice for the narrative, because all the starting scenes can feel disjointed and don't necessarily build off from one another. Since the implications of the arrangement are given from the first scene, it's really important to have the player be invested in those first couple of scenes -- but since we know the ending, a lot of that investment and tension gets lost.
I think the achievement system isn't great. For a narrative that's supposed to be very final, it feels weird to go back and redo scenes with different choices for achievements.
The writing and idea were good -- it becomes very clear what the farmer's MO is and the way he conducts himself in his own issues. I liked the phone calls best, since it was a good look into how people outside of the arrangement view him. However, I didn't feel like this being a game made it better than if it was a short film.

Knowing what's to come and doing what you can while you still can, encapsulates the vibes of the game.
Story - You play as a man who is tired of his job and wants out but you get a visit from a familiar face which is where the story goes from there. Unraveling the mysteries and feelings of a small cast of characters. It's pretty slow-paced but to a tense dramatic effect. Short story so you'll either like that short trip or not.
Gameplay - Quite simple but it gets the narrative job done. Lots of walking but every now and then, you'll be doing a small task that is an interaction mechanic. There's also plenty of fun quirky detail and gameplay interactions that can deviate from the game's golden path. I did 100% the game so it's quite easy to get them.
Art/Music - The art style is quite nice. Though the artistic composition of scenes is where the beauty lives. Music, unfortunately, don't remember much of it but there is a record player for some tracks.
Summary: Game is quite good and it's short enough to get through if you are scratching a itch for something small. It's one of those games you can also just be in-game and stare at the world with mellow feelings. Just contemplating what life is, just like the main character.

This game is fantastic. It has the feeling of a really well acted play in a small blackbox/community theater: small, tightly paced, intimate, and emotional. It does some really fun things with gameplay that add a lot to the story that are really interesting. Also, I cried a few times, which is a mark of high quality for me when it comes to art. 9/10, definitely recommend.
Sometimes you just want a good quiet tragedy to sit with, and this is it. The choices can enhance the flavor of the tragedy, but cannot deter it. I'm still thinking about the scene with the chestnut tree. It's not very long, and very worth your time.

I am a farmer and I have regrets. So I’m gonna tell this gangster I’m done feeding my pigs with his victims [spoiler] so he can end my life [/spoiler]. Spoilers, I guess? But that’s really what this boils down to. The premise is interesting, but the dialogue was meandering. There are some interactive bits, but they’re kinda dull, and when you’re just looking at a guy (or listening to a guy) talking for a good chunk of time so it’s already dull. It’s a video game, but it really didn’t take advantage of the medium in the way it could. I don’t really feel like I stepped into the farmer’s shoes in any meaningful ways because the gameplay was fleeting and mediocre, sandwiched between the overly long dialogue sequences. If this were a film, it would be even more dull, I suspect. And what was it trying to say? Is it meant to be a study on one man’s regrets and how he hopes to make up for that by… [spoiler] getting shot? [/spoiler] I’m not opposed to “walking simulators” or slow-paced games, and I am usually an empath (I cry in movies and games all the time), but I really bounced hard off this game.

This is less a game and more an interactive story, Its only about an hour long and i got this game in a bundle so good deal but stand alone at full price? I'm not so sure its worth that but overall enjoyable
For the game's opening and the first round of chores around the farm and the interactions with the hitman, I was expecting to kinda come away from this the same way I come away from a lot of art - understanding and respecting it on an intellectual level, but not really affected all that much emotionally. This is also a game that I went in with the knowledge that it was made under tight constraints, and I adjusted my expectations accordingly.
Then I got to the two phone calls you make.
This is the first time in my adult life that a game has made me cry.

Good acting and dialogue. I played this game on acid and it made me think about my childhood, family and mortality to the degree that weeks later I'm still thinking about it. It can be finished in a single sitting but it'll sit with you for much longer.
I've played much more polished games with better stories, and they were all cheaper. $18 for what?
Mediocre visuals and a story. This may be enough on most cases but i don't see anything special about this game. Yeah, the story might be good, but the storytelling isn't. The only good thing I can say about the game is the voice acting.
Don't spend money on this "game" unless it's in a Humble Bundle or something similar.

Adios is not that good but also not that bad of an indie game. It's a very short walking sim where you get to walk through the life of a farmer. The design is charming and works well for the game. Voice acting is passable at best but it's surprising to see any voice acting in a indie like this.
Some achievements were not straight forward unless you look for a guide. At least we can select chapters easily after finishing the game. It's an easy game to 100%.

Short narrative experience focused on dialogue. You walk around a house and do a handful of simple activities, but mostly this is a monologue that touches on all sorts of topics. The voice acting is great.
At the beginning I thought it was about a man trying to get clean from illegal activities, hence the title Adios. Then he tells stories: about a rich kid in high school living up on the mountain, about Nam and how a supposed hero now shovels ♥♥♥♥, about hobbies and the passing of his wife, about dogs are all good and goes to dog heaven... Eventually he makes phone calls revealing how his beloved wife died. That part hit me hard - the sorrow was hidden deep, it came through powerfully. ♥♥♥♥ Alzheimer’s.
I’m lucky that I don’t have anyone close to this disease, but I once saw a short video: an elderly couple, the husband with Alzheimer’s. The conversation started as “Who are you?” “I’m your wife.” “Why don’t I know you?” “You’re confused.” “How can you prove you’re my wife?” “Then why am I in your bed?” “But I don’t know you. Who are you?” “I’m your wife.” And it loops, heartbreakingly.
In the game, the man sent his wife to a home, an old people’s home I guess, and she wasn't cared for well. I don’t judge, I can’t, the terrible thing about Alzheimer’s and other illnesses is that everyone suffers, not just the patient. I only hope that families affected find more patience and less pain.
During the game you also play horseshoes, feed the horse, care for a rare breed of American pigs, milk sheep and go fishing... Eventually when dinner and shotgun are on the table, it’s time to say adios. I ran into a bug here: I was holding dinner and it glitched through the table. I was focused on the bug when the game ended with a gunshot. I thought this is about [spoiler]suicide but no, it's murder[/spoiler].
Neat game, sharing real-life experience and emotion. I went for 100% achievements, I only do this for good games. This is a work of art in video game form. Kudos to the Dev!

Adios is a short point-and-click/walking simulator game that focuses on a former mobster-♥♥♥-pig farmer and hitman who have competing goals. The game is primarily focused on dialogue/narrative, so your enjoyment of the game is likely to be highly dependent on how much you like the story. I found it interesting, though slow, and some of the actions were unclear (the last scene took me like 10 minutes and a walkthrough video to realize [spoiler]you needed to interact with a separate table than the one you are directly looking at in the scene.[/spoiler] Combined with some iffy bindings, this led to frustration. The voice acting is really great.

Don't let my playtime fool you, I accidentally kept the game open while distracted.
There's about maybe an hour of story here. Nothing crazy to the interactive parts. It's more of a visual novel than anything.
I got it through the Indie Horror bundle and feel like it was totally worth it for an interesting little story. Not so sure about that $17.99 original price though. Don't think I'd pay that much unless there was more to the game/story.
This type of story telling would feel more appropriate outside of gaming. It's just a bit too slow and not engaging enough to be a game. Much of the time spent "playing" is listening to dialogue back and forth. If you are more into the story itself it could be worth it.

I said the experience. This is not really 'a game'. This is a railroaded linear experience visual novel that makes you do certain very easy things to progress/facilitate the story.
It is very short. It is well voice acted. The story is good but it's good in a youtube shorts kind of way. Without spoiling anything, you're put into a very compelling story with much assumed having gone on and referred to.
So that to me was an interesting experience, and one I enjoyed and was worth the $10
Story is simple but well written. While I would appreciate an alternative ending, I also like that the game is more like a visual novel. It has a defined end and there is a common theme. It can be beaten in under an hour.

A walking simulator about a farmer who wants to quit working with the mafia.
The game is only about 75 minutes long, with basically no gameplay except walking and talking. It could have just as easily been a short film. However, for being so short it was very emotionally impactful.
That should hopefully be enough information to tell you if you'd enjoy the game, without giving an spoilers. For my part, I really enjoyed it. These sort of games are exactly why I love walking simulators so much.
Here's the thing. Grab a camera, find two people, go outside and make a short film.
You can't make a short film? Well, then write a short story about this premise. As a game "Adios" is terrible. There's nothing to do here. Nothing to gain from the "interactive" experience.
And the base price for the game is 14,99?? Are you serious?
Adios is mostly a walking simulator where a story plays out within a day, you jump from one scene to the next and you have about three sections in between where you need to do tasks/mini-games in order to continue with the story. During those sections you are free to explore a bit, like around the farm or inside the house.
The story is quite strong when things pick up. The voice acting is fantastic, everyone feels authentic and they give a natural performance. The graphics are quite beautiful, there are small little touches and the farm feels alive. Just because of that, I liked exploring the areas only to mess around and try to find some funny achievements. The game is excellent with giving you the tools to backtrack for the achievements you might have missed. There is chapter select and you can reset scenes to quickly pick a different choice. I didn’t encounter any bugs and the performance was fine in 165fps (my monitor’s native resolution).
I normally quite enjoy walking simulators but I disliked the way Adios did it early in the game. There are many sections where you’re basically not allowed to move or do much while you get lots of story dump that you don’t care about so early. I understand the relevance but those sections should have been better paced with more gameplay in between. Later on in the game, you will get better pacing with more gameplay sections and the story gets better even when you already know the outcome. Lastly, I was shocked when I checked the price on Steam. It costs €15 for what amounts to about an hour story and the rest is getting the achievements for a total of 2.3 hours. I would have been pissed off if I paid that much for it, I luckily got it with a bundle.
Adios is a hard game to review. For starters, it’s one of those walking simulators that remind you you’re not playing a game for a long part of it. That’s a sign of bad game design to me. Other walking simulators mask this better or they have enough gameplay sections to remind you they’re still games. Still, if you like a well presented story and you’re the patient/experimental type, the game can still be worth it. But not at the price that is being asked. Get it only when it’s on a deep sale or when it’s part of a bundle.

I would give it more so a 6/10 instead of a don't recommend, but that is not possible.
The voice acting was pretty good, the charming cartoon style also quite nice, even if sometimes a bit dull.
Which I didn't like was the quite typical indie game control scheme feeling I got, felt cheap.
And I just couldn't immerse myself into the story with that little time where I and the protagonist got no connection whatever and the outcome was already clear.
Still thanks for providing something new and fresh to the table. Bet if it got more fleshed out and real gameplay to it attached, it could have been even better.

But man im kinda glad I did play it. I thought it was just a silly little game of someone leaving the mob and going out to live his own life and leaving everything to his friend.
Little did I know I was wrong. That ending threw me for a loop.
The amount of emotion that I felt was truly not something I felt in a long time.
The build.up was nice but dear god the amount of dialogue was near a snoozefest but made since with the ending.
It was a great game, just not for the $17 price tag they are currently offering.
If you are into walking simulators, maybe this is for you.

Barely a game as most reviews point out, just a short story presented with minimal gameplay elements. Most of what you can experience in-game can also be experienced by watching someone else play. However I would still recommend playing as the atmosphere and small details do add up to something greater.

This game is pretty bittersweet, it's like drinking a cup of your favorite tea or coffee on a cold day and reminiscing on all the tough times you had but also what you learned. Adios tells a story about a pig farmer and his friend talking about his life together. The writing feels authentic and very well done, I could read a book by this guy. The characters are enjoyable to listen to and you get a sense of how they feel and who they are by the end. I think this story isn't really all about one man and his struggle but more about life and how sometimes hard decisions are made. That being said it's a short go, about 2 maybe 3 hours long with very little replayability, but it's a nice story. I'd give adios an 8.5/10 and say it's worth about 5 bucks (for the shortness alone). I'm just as bad playing horseshoes in this game as I am in real life.

A short, but emotional story that really pulled me in. I haven't played a game with this type of plot which was my biggest pull. I really liked the main character's voice and his stern, yet laid back manner. My only complaint was having some issues with the ending, maybe a small bug caused either my food to mess up or not register that I was waiting at the table for the cutscene.

A short interactive story without much actual gameplay. It’s more of an experience, and it’s definitely something that can be a hit or miss depending on what you’re into. I found the conversations to be genuinely well written, well acted, and most importantly, believable! It’s absolutely not for anyone who doesn’t enjoy a slow burn, but if you do, there’s something here worth your time.
If you built a whole universe out. Completely detailed and thoroughly considered to the most minute intricacy. Then theoretically you could take the smallest sliver of that world and present it. And not even a particularly important sliver. A tiny corner where dust has collected and no one really looks at or cares about.
If your vision is clear enough. And your writting is strong enough. Just that sliver alone can convey and infer the rest of the world it was cut out from.
This game is proof of that concept. Games do not need to be long. Have graphics that make your PC cry. It doesn't need the most engaging mechanics. Hell, the game can be short enough to not even have a gameplay loop. If you have mastered writting to this degree. The game can be good.

The game has amazing voice acting, really good. That, combined with the beautiful art style, make this short little story very enjoyable. Personally I also enjoyed the story, only wishing it was longer. And I really like that they have a <Scene Select> option after finishing the game to go back and complete everything.
And that's about it. The game is quite short and there's not much in terms "gameplay". Besides walking around and some very small side activities, it's just dialogue through which you're getting more context about what's going on.
I'm giving it a positive review overall only because I got it as part of a bundle. Otherwise I don't think I'd recommend it at the full price.

I will preface this review by stating that I got this from a humble bundle, I did not pay for this directly. As well as that this 'game' is closer to an interactive story than a game, id call it an experience.
So, overall I think this game is alright. its not the best, but its certainly not as bad as some people are saying. Yeah, a lot of the story puts you in positions where you cant really do anything but listen. Like after grabbing the manure to spread it out, you kinda just stand around the wheelbarrow waiting and listening to the conversation going on. A lot of times, the game sets you up to doing something while you listen, and then you are doing something for 10 seconds, followed by just listening for 5 minutes. Its a bit of a shame, since the small minigames couldve made it a bit more of an interactive experience rather than just a listening exercise. And even then, most minigames were kinda boring. The most interesting bit was the fishing minigame, which only let me catch 3 fish.
The choices you make arent all that impactful, at most it just decides what you will listen to more. You cant really mess up or say something wrong. sometimes you get "thoughts" which are there to imply that he wants to say something else, but cant. Overall, its just alright.
The artstyle is pretty good, the humans look a bit weird, but most of the farm looks fine and I dont really mind it.
The story is the highlight of this, as it is a sad story that you are involved in. But due to the lack of gameplay its kinda like listening to an audiobook. Which is fine if you go into this game like an experience instead of a real game, but i get why people are disappointed.
Now, the game itself took me 1.3 hours to 100%. I got this game on humble, but for the price of 15 euro's... that is VERY steep. I would most likely give this game a negative review on the price alone if I didnt get it from humble.
Anyway, I can recommend it if you can get it for cheap, under 5 euro's would be fine. The story is alright and as long as you go into this with the idea of "Im here to listen to a story" you should be fine.
Couldn't complete the fishing mini game no matter what I did. If that bar is supposed to show anything, maybe use some colors to indicate the current state. Doesn't help that you manually have to turn on subtitles inside the menu (which I found out 30 minutes into the game) and the sound balance is so bad that you barely even hear their voices sometimes. Wouldn't be that bad if it wasn't the game's main gameplay: listening to dialogue. The writing is decent and the voice acting too but those things just killed my enjoyment of the game. Also that price is insane. Got it from a bundle, otherwise I'd be even more disappointed now.
You're paying how much for an hour of lazy, cliche dialogue between a proto†ypical old man farmer with regrets he can never make up for and another somewhat interested but largely disaffected conversation partner. Like being stuck in a cutscene you're forced to sit through without being able to move but for an hour, and the game does its best to keep you from doing anything. Really a shame because there was a lot of care and detail put into the farm and home that ultimately add up to nothing. And to charge that amount for something so meager is inexcuseable.
Astounding the positive reviews for what isn't even a game. Genuine suggestion, just watch it on youtube and save yourself almost 20 bucks because you're not getting anything else out of this.

I can see what they were trying to capture here, but there's something missing. I was bored out of my mind at the beginning of the game. The game picked up around the chestnut scene, i saw the potential and actually started paying attention. The voice acting was amazing. I got really into the game towards the end, then the ending hit and ruined the whole experience, it felt rushed and like something else was supposed to be there. Wouldn't recommend.

This was a nice surprise, got it in a horror bundle, but it's much more of a Coen-brothers style thriller than horror. It's a slow burn walking sim, focused on dialogue and story with some minigames, the description of the game tells you everything you need to know. Pretty good voice acting and writing that was both mundane and filled with a slight and growing dread to what feels like the inevitable conclusion. The graphics however was not the best, it was a bit jarring that your friend doesn't look really nearly as old as the story say he is, but that's a minor issue. 15€ seams a bit steep for what is here, just barely an hour and then a bit more to pick up the rest of the achievements, but it's well worth a playthrough if you get it at a discount at least. (or if you read this within a week, the bundle at Humble, it has several games i reviewd recently.)
Note for 100%, there is a chapter selector after you finish the game, it should give you no trouble getting 100% as long as you know what you need to do. One of them broke for me and softlocked the game, but it fixed itself after a restart.
Short, well voice acted with a deeply melancholic narrative. Ended up playing all paths/interactions.
I don’t know if I’d recommend it at full price tho.
it’s quite steep for such a short game with a couple of flaws: No option to add subtitles. Easy softlocks if you outrun the dude or hop fences into the next scene (thankfully there’s a restart button in the menu).
IMO this game would work way better as an interactive VN.
Short and well voice-acted story about the final moments of a man's life.
There's something about how mundane your tasks are, how they're given a different light with the context of your oncoming death.
I find it hard to decide if the protagonist is a good person. It's easy to say you're sorry for all your wrongs, when you won't have to live with them much longer.

Great little story. Someone else commented that it was "guilt made manifest", and I agree. It gave me a lot to think about, and let me do pondering upon the inevitable and acceptance. Great story, DO NOT BUY AT FULL PRICE. $18 is way too high. If its part of a bundle or on sale, you won't be disappointed at all.
It's a walking sim, so you're here almost entirely for the story. The story itself is very nice and thoughtful, though a little shallow. Maybe I'm expecting too much out of it. I teared up at a few points.
Beautiful stylized environment, really good voice acting!, good writing. I wish the story went a little deeper in its dialogue options, but, for what it is, it's good.
Dunno that it's $18 good, but definitely good as part of a bundle, or on sale, or something like that.

Adios takes you on a short, gripping tale of a pig farmer who wishes to cut ties with the mob, fully aware of the consequences of doing so.
The game isn’t visually impressive, the soundtrack is minimal, and the whole experience is rather short. However, it more than makes up for it all with a fantastic story and brilliant voice acting. You, as the pig farmer, spend the day with your mob contact, doing activities like milking goats, shooting skeets, and fixing a car. I won’t say much more about the story, as it is absolutely the primary reason for picking up Adios, but know that it's worth the asking price. I have heard it being compared to a Coen brothers movie in game form, and after finishing the game I have a hard time disagreeing with that. The voice acting is superb as well, with the whole cast giving an excellent performance.
In short, I would strongly recommend Adios if you are looking for a strong narrative experience, and don’t mind gameplay taking a back seat.
Game keeps crashing on me, UE 4 system crash, constant regardless of setting, unplayable, which is sad because i was looking forward to it.
I'm a sucker for a "sit here and listen" type game when it's done well. Adios tells a tale of leaving the mob through the eyes of a pig farmer, one who lent his livestock to body disposal. Mistakes were made, regrets have been regrut, and a man starts to reckon with his legacy and what truly matters. When that happens, sometimes you've just gotta say *title drop*.
If you're gonna tell me to shut up and listen, then one thing is paramount: good voice acting. And Adios has it! Both the farmer and hitman are voiced with excellency, and have a believable back-and-forth chemistry that draws you in with even the most mundane conversations. Why the hell do I care about this guy's vending machine repair hobby? Because you made it sound all nice and purdy-like.
Coming second to vocals is visuals. I'm stuck here listening to you, but what are you showing me to sell me on it? The art style in Adios is a cel-shaded and cartoon-y representation of a Midwest farm. And it plays. I have no complaints about the vibe as a whole, but unfortunately it does fall apart in some places. For instance, when a character is talking, their mouth isn't working in tandem with their voice, it's more reminiscent of Pac-Man, where it will simply open and close. And even then, it will open, the whole sentence is played, and then it closes. Not a dealbreaker, but in a game like this, it becomes very obvious very quickly, and does throw off some of the immersion.
Ignoring the minor hiccups with a little bit of mental fortitude, I had a good time going through the game. At several turns, you have a choice in the dialogue, so it keeps you as an active participant rather than solely an observer. You may notice that some dialogue options are greyed out, and when you attempt to speak them, are met with a "Hmm" or "Mm" instead from the farmer. What I guessed to be a representation of how sometimes you think something but can't bring yourself to say it was confirmed by the developer, which I found really cool. They stated all dialogue options are the farmer's thoughts, so even if you don't say something distasteful, the farmer was still thinking it. He's not a paragon of virtue, but he tries.
All told, you're looking at about an hour of shooting the ♥♥♥♥ with your old buddy and coming to terms with what needs to be done, one way or the other. It was a fun narrative setting, and in the short time I spent with it, I was able to empathize with both parties. Sometimes we can all use a reminder of what it looks like to try to be better, and something like Adios is as good of an example as any.
That said, I got this game for essentially a buck or two in a bundle. At a price tag of almost $20, I can't recommend it. On a sale for $5 or so, maaaybe $10 if you're feeling generous, sure, go for it, but the asking price for such little content is pretty egregious.

This game has good voice acting, an alright story and not much else. Maybe for a few dollars it'd be worth the price, but at 18 it's way too overpriced
