Cool classic Mario game :)
I must first preface that most aspects of this game are well done, I enjoy the look and style, the music is very good and my favorite aspect of the game, and there are good amount of hidden things to find and explore in levels, but unfortunately, my main issue lies in the slippery controls of the main character and that I find myself getting easily frustrated with the game and level design (particularly from World 3 and onward) to where I end up just trying to book it to the end of the levels to beat the game, not a good sign if that's how I end up playing this game that encourages exploration.
I can also acknowledge my patience certainly is lower then it was many years ago, but many aspects of levels starting on World 3 made this a frustrating game and in the end I became determined to at least beat it. In a way the developer kind of designed the game accurately like many retro titles of the past with getting frustrated at certain parts and dying over and over, and was still nice when I beat it, but if you enjoy exploring and finding secrets in a retro style game, you will likely enjoy it, however the time I had with this game is all I'll ever put into it.
Summary: I liked the game. I would recommend this game if you like casual mixed with don't get hit ever (if you play it normally not caring you can see the issues i point out and the favoring towards getting the black power-up over the rest and/or dying till it resets to black after losing it). Platforming was easy minus a few sections of some levels where being very precise was needed.
Story: I liked the story. Wasn't one of flashy lights and heartbreak. Which I liked. Also "8 -12 hours of story" in description. It is like 10 min at most. There are 8 -12 hours of platforming. No story in the platforming.
Graphics: I liked them. It gave a retro vibe. When I think retro I think pixel so it was a bit more modern retro for me. It's alright though.
Power ups: Oh boy the title of this game says "several" (a number greater than 2 or 3 but not by much by definition of several ) there are 3 power ups green, red, black and if you want to count shield we can but my point is there is no difference you get hit all those power ups no matter if you got a green lowest or black highest you lose them all. It doesn't knock you down a stage.
The one power up ( 3 stages: green, red, black) you get in the game was in my opinion very annoying. If you get hit you lose all 3 stages of it. I got hit a lot. I found you can just die and lose all your lives and restart the level with the power up (you had when you first started the level). So yeah I purposely died a lot as a result of getting hit. This black power-up makes the boss fights at the end of the world's easier and the levels easier.
Level Design: There was no repeating levels that I noticed (the layout). I will note levels do have lots of hidden locations. They are not worth going to. Literally they give you coins & one of the three power up and if you don't have max (black) you will get the power ups just speeding to the end. There are some very precise jumps that are quite difficult but other than that easy platforming.
Bosses:The Bosses repeated themselves. Now yes they did change up the color of the boss and the attacks it could do a little bit. It was still the same boss. They where moderately difficult but not super hard.
Controls: I often have trouble with platformers cause of the "sliding." In this game I wasn't sliding (yes controllers I know are not precise) but this one had a lot better handle on my character than in some platformers i have played. Or I got better at platformers. Just shoot and jump. Nothing special.
Achievement Hunter's: No achievement's sadly.

The game actually controls fairly well and is fun to play in that sense, but the whole thing is brought down by unhinged game design.
We're all familiar with limited lives in old platformers. You run out of lives and you start again, usually on the same level or at the beginning of the World that you're on. 8BitBoy throws that all out the window.
The game auto saves at the end of each level, and it's more of a save state than a proper game save. Let's say you get to the end of the stage with 2 extra lives and a great powerup. You die and lose your powerup. Now you die again and run out of lives, and get sent back to the save point- your 3 lives and power up are back!
Weird, but that doesn't sound bad, right? Now let's say you get to the end of a level with no extra lives and no powerups. The game saves. Now every time you lose a life, you have to go through the steps of reloading your save file and loading into the level- with one life and no Powerups.
So the solution here is clear, and not fun- if you die once, you lose the rest of your lives on purpose and start the level again with all your lives and powers- and keep doing this until you get a perfect run through the level and it's safe to save your file again.
8BitBoy is clearly a Mario clone, but it could have still been a pretty fun experience. I like that the fireball powerups work like the bouncing balls in Super Mario Land. And there's some creativity in the stage design. But the core mechanics of the game are too flawed for me to enjoy it.

Die Nostalgie packt uns und wir gehen runter in den Keller, um unsere Alte 8-Bit Konsole rauszukramen, dabei finden wir ein Spiel welches noch Neu aussieht und kein Label hat. Schnell bauen wir unsere Konsole an und packen das Spiel rein. Wir denke uns das es eventuell keine Gute Idee ist aber tun es trotzdem. [h1] Gameplay [/h1] Das Spiel erinnert sehr stark an Super Mario für den NES. Die Steuerung ist hier zwar etwas Fluffiger aber dennoch nicht Perfekt. Es gibt insgesamt 5 Welten mit jeweils 10 Level, wobei das Zehnte Level immer ein Boss Kampf ist. Man kann in jedem Level eine Spezielle Münze finden. Diese braucht man auch alle um das Wahre Ende des Spiels zu erreichen. Man kann verschieden Farbige Trauben einsammeln um damit zu schießen, wobei diese immer in der Reihenfolge Rot, Grün & Schwarz sind. Mit dem Roten schießen wir lediglich ein Geschoss, mit dem Grünen Zwei und mit dem Schwarzen 2 Feuerbälle. Zudem kann man auch einen Schild einsammeln der uns einen Zusätzlichen Treffer einstecken lässt. Es gibt einige sehr Frustrierende Level mit richtig Ätzenden Sprung Passagen. Man braucht schon eine recht Hohe Frustresistenz um das Spiel zu beenden. Musik ist ordentlich und die Retro Optik ist schön

I mean, not the worst out there, but the market is full of great 2D sidescrollers. You are better off looking elsewhere.

Крайне годный платформер, передающий привет из детства и отдающий дань уважения (и немножко множко копируя) легендарной «Super Mario Bros.». Яркая картинки, приятный саундтрек, тонны скрытых мест - всё это есть и вы всё это получит во время прохождения 5 разнообразных миров на пути к своей цели.
Но какой-же хороший платформер без минусов? Первый и самый главный - управление! Либо сразу же меняйте его на клавиатуре, либо играйте на геймпаде. Ну и копирка с приключений Марио, всё же, немного огорчает. Я долго не хотел признавать этого, но когда из блоко-кирпичика появилась "лиана" и начала расти вверх, я просто сдался. И не совсем понятно, почему после загрузки игры обнуляются очки?..
Не знаю, почему многие говорят о хардкорности - игра довольно-таки лёгкая и 99% всех смертей пришлось конкретно на забытый/лишний прыжок, а не из-за сложности. Ну да, конвейеры могут заставить вас напрячься, но к их появлению вы уже должы хорошо привыкнуть к управлению.
В целом - это отличный проект, определённо заслуживающий внимания. Конечно не на 12+ часов, но 4-5 часов чистой игры (без переигрываний) он вполне способен подарить.

Another Mario clone. Level design is ok. Sound is a bit glitchy and might irritate you after a while. Controls are responsive. Game lacks some kind of charm like introducing new things rather than being confined within the standard box. Still the gameplay is okay-ish because it's (NOT) Mario.

Um bom jogo plataforma muito inspirado em Super Mario World, tem até o poder de soltar bolinha de fogo, com versões melhoradas. Apesar disso consegue ser distinto e fazer merecer por si só.
Possui um bom level design, ao todo com 5 mundos e cerca de 50 fases. O jogo tem uma boa curva de dificuldade.
Recomendo fortemente jogar ele com controle.

Lot of love for the developer for the effort that they put into this game. This is a great first project and all the basics for a decent platformer are here. It's sad to see this is the only game released because this a great starting point for a gamedev career. The name 8BitBoy perfectly encapsulates this game. It's pretty basic, does a lot of familiar things that the old platforming pixel games do but in the end doesn't do anything groundbreaking or new in terms of design. It's not a bad game but its not good either. It's ok. Should you play it? Go ahead. Do I recommend it? No.

Досить непоганий платформер, який багато чого позичив у зрозуміло якої гри. Але годі вам, майже всі платформи надихались цими двома вусатими сантехніками.
Але на відміну від італійських пенсіонерів, наш герой потрапив у казковий і трохи дурнуватий світ монеток та магічних грибів не через принцесу-не-з-того-замку, а через свою кризу середніх років.
Саме так, історія починається з того що наш дядько вже давно виріс, але йому все не те, та все не так. Тому він вирішив трохи понастольгувати знайшовши на горищі свою стару 8-бітну Master System. Але поруч з цим сакральним артефактом дитинства наш герой знайшов картридж без наклейки, якого він ніколи раніше не бачив, ну і звичайно ж захотів його спробувать. І, ясна річ, що це була не проста гра, А ДИЯВОЛЬСКІЙ ПОРТАЛ У ПЕКЛО з 56 непроходимими рівнями який затягнув бідолаху прямо всередину картріджка. І тепер щоб вибратись з цієї магічної приставки, та попити пивка перед сном як зазвичай, старому доведеться промучитись від 8 до 12 годин реального ігрового часу, щоб пройти цей несподіваний прикол.
Гра вцілому хороша, особливо радує левел дизайн, він тут дійсно продуманий. 8-бітний мужик вміє бігати, стрибати та кидитась різного виду чи то кульками, чи то ягодами — не розбереш. Заважати спокійно ї*ашитись головою об цеглу, щоб вибити трохи собі монет, йому будуть різного виду пташки, жучки та для рифми павучки. А от боси тут тільки пташки.
Гра вийшла у 2014 році, і на фоні всіх копієчних платформерів які за*рали Steam в останні років 8 виглядає дуже пристойно. Розробник дійсно запарився з кількістю рівнів, секретів, а також керуванням та графічним оформленням не забуваючи про якість цього всього добра.

Um tanto desafiador, deu trabalho de chegar ao fim, mas meio que você chega ao fim mas não chega, tá ligado? ksksksk o cara diz que você deveria ter pegado todos os numseique. Tilaská com essas poha de pegar tudo. Negóçé chegar no fim e acabou, poha. O controle do personagem parece que tá controlando a mim, negócio pesado do curisco, daqueles que você tem que pressionar o botão de pular milisegundos antes porque tem um lagzinho que por muitas vezes você falha no pulo por causa disto. Enfim, tem joguinho deste estilo que é maior e mais empolgante por menos dinheiros. E nem te dá conquistazinha.

Ein spaßiges Spiel, dass ich Retro- wie Jump 'n Run-Freunden empfehlen würde.
Etwas mehr als 5 Stunden habe ich für einen Durchgang gebraucht, wobei mir noch einige der Münzen fehlen.
Das Erforschen der Level gefiel mir gut. Hier und da empfand ich die Kollisionsabfrage als zweifelhaft. Nichtsdestotrotz nahm es für mich keine frustrierenden Ausmaße an. Den Schwierigkeitsgrad schätze ich als moderat ein. Wer nicht ganz neu im Genre ist, sollte gut klar kommen.
Generell hätte ich mir ein vielfältigeres Gegnerdesign sowie einen spannenderen letzten Endboss gewünscht. Durch den geringen Preis sind das aber Kritikpunkte, über die ich hinwegsehen kann.

ダッシュをすると慣性が付きやすく、空中制御が難しい。それなのにマリオのブロックの1/2スケールの小さな足場をジャンプして乗り継いで行くステージ構成が終始ある為、うんざりしてくる。左側に移動する際のカメラの追跡が遅すぎる。ボス戦でやられると、毎回20秒近くのボスとの対峙イベントシーンを見せられるのでテンポが悪い。一応最後まではクリアしましたが、真のエンディングに必要な隠しコイン50枚を探すのは諦めました。

Golpe baixo criticar um jogo de 2014 pela qualidade, ainda mais indie. Mas é impossível de eu recomendar qualquer um jogar esse jogo nos dias atuais, procure outra coisa melhor para passar seu tempo.
O pilar do jogo é ser sustentado pelo fator nostalgia da década de 80-90, se retira isso, você tem um jogo que não soube pegar do melhor dos jogos do passado e melhorar a fórmula, é só uma iteração básica da mesma fórmula, e não é nem uma iteração boa.
O jogo sofre muito dos controles não precisos, da repetição de inimigos, onde os bosses são os piores (literalmente o mesmo mudando 1 coisa), e zero motivação de descobrir o jogo.
O jogo se vende pela exploração, mas primeiro que existe um tempo limite para ficar na fase (que faz o menor sentido se você quer que o jogador explore a fase), segundo que é muito fácil você morrer nesse jogo, seja por você cair num poço que não viu ou o controle desobedecer e você escorregar para a água e morrer instantaneamente, e por último, que a recompensa por explorar é o nada, porque você só recebe mais do mesmo que recebe jogando normal, não existe um fator surpresa ou mesmo motivador para explorar, no fim do jogo você quer chegar no fim da fase o mais rápido possível para acabar logo.
This game isn't that great. The platforming doesn't feel precise enough. the character that you play as seems to slip and slide when landing on a platform after a jump.
Also, if you miss a power-up from a previous level, you will be at a significant disadvantage in later levels and not all levels seem to have power-ups.

[b]8BitBoy™[/b] uses pixelated visuals. Despite the different worlds, I found them to look similar, as if they were just palette-swapped. Not that I'm complaining, though. Visuals are never something that you need to care about in a platformer game. As long as you can tell who is who, it works, and the game does a good job at that.

There is a bit of story at the beginning and the end, but I found the cutscene before the ending to be weird since it came out of nowhere. The story itself is a nice addition to the game, although you can still enjoy the game without it.

As I said before, there are 50 levels in total, separated into 5 worlds. Each world has 10 levels, including 1 boss fight at the end of it. Levels are in similar difficulty - some might be harder than others, but powerups and shortcuts are available to make it easier.
There are 4 powerups in total, which usually will drop if you break a block with a plus sign in it. The powerup usually comes in the same order: shield > 1 fireball > 2 fireballs > 3 fireballs. The shield allows you to take 1 damage from the enemy before dying, and the fireballs give you a means to attack the enemies from afar.

You can attack most enemies by jumping on top of them, but it can be risky. You'll die if you get hit, and you have to start the level from scratch, reducing your life in the process. If your life goes down to zero, you can load your last save and continue like nothing happened. While it was a nice feature, I found having a lot of lives to be useless since you can just load your save and keep your powerups that way.
Somehow, I can't seem to be in control of the character. I think it mainly happens because of the controls, which somehow make the character slide a bit to the left and right whenever you move him, making him feel "sticky". This was made worse in the third world where you have to slide in blocks of ice; it can be hard to control your character, especially when you jump, since the character will move far depending on how long you have been running on the platform before jumping. This makes it tricky to do jumps when you only have 1 or 2 tiles beneath your feet before jumping since you might not even move the character.

Secret areas and shortcuts are hidden throughout the levels. Most of them are obvious, others are not. They are usually invisible walls housing either extra coins, a special coin for the extra ending, or a shortcut. The shortcuts can teleport you to several levels ahead of you, allowing you to finish the game faster in the process. I liked this shortcut feature since it allows me to focus on the end game content, which is collecting the extra coins hidden beneath all levels for the extra ending.
Sadly, the game is not for people who like to take their time on the levels. Each level is timed, and you have to start the level from scratch if you are not fast enough. As someone who likes to explore every nook and cranny in a level before moving on, this affects me greatly. Sometimes, you won't have enough time to explore the whole area while other times, the game won't let you explore everything because it blocks access to the previous areas. Moreover, the game doesn't seem to care about collecting the coins at all. It only focuses on how fast you finish the level, taking that into account for the score calculation once you finish each level.

Boss fights are too boring. All of them look the same with a little tweak to make them look unique to their world. Each of them has a unique attack, but they still share one attack pattern. This makes the bosses to be too predictable and easy to finish.
[b]Length and Difficulty[/b]
I finished the game in 3.6h, using all the shortcuts that I could find to finish the game faster. Afterward, I continued with the game and collected all special coins in each level to unlock the extra ending.
The game isn't difficult, although the control can give those who are new to platformers an issue. There are 2 difficulty modes: the easier one allows you to save right after you finish each level, while the harder one only allows saving if you collect the special coin. I played in the easier difficulty. Some parts of the game gave me trouble, but it's nothing too difficult. The only difficult part of the game is to match your jump timing with a cannonball that was thrown at you, which only happens a few times.

[b]8BitBoy™[/b] is a platformer meant for speed. As someone who liked to collect all coins before finishing a level, it gave me a bit of trouble. Moreover, the controls can cause some issues; I never felt in control of the character. However, despite all the issues, I still find it to be a decent game. The powerups and shortcuts make the game to be easier and more manageable, and the game length is just right. Moreover, it's very cheap at a sale, making it a good choice for those who enjoy platformers and want to play one at a cheap price.

there are a lot of mechanics in this game that just don't make sense. i ended up with 6 lives after winning a bonus game. when i got a game over and reloaded, i went back to 3 lives. even though i originally started the level and the game autosaved with me having 6. but if you start a new level with only one life and get a game over, you'll reload with the one life you started the level with. that's pretty absurd. hitboxes are all over the place, controls can be unresponsive sometimes. saved power ups sometimes disappear when you try to use them. enemy patterns can be unfair. world 3 boss can be glitchy, i could not jump on it but i died when it charged me.
only positive things i can say is i kinda like world 4's futuristic aesthetic and the soundtrack is decent.

Хороший платформер, напоминающий по геймплею Super Mario. По сюжету, мы играем за мужчину 32-ух лет, который был был не особо довольный своей жизнью, и решил так скажем, вспомнить былое, потому тогда были приятные для него времена, где он днями на прольет играл в игры, и было беззаботное время, и поиграть в одну из своих игр на старой приставке, вспомнить те чувства или ощущения, когда даже хотел стать разработчиком в один день и тоже делать игры. По итогу находит картридж без надписи БУБУМ БАБАХ, и мы оказываемся каким-то чудом в игре. Игра относительно не сложная по началу, все также как и у Марио, есть миры, уровни, и сложность идет по нарастанию, приятная графика и анимации. Если кто хочет вспомнить Марио, или резко захотелось поиграть в платформер/копию Марио, то сыграть можно, или же скачать эмулятор. Но покупать бы я не стал если честно, я не помню как она оказалась в моей библиотеке, скорее всего где-то ключ был, и решил сейчас только попробовать поиграть. Если и покупать, то только на скидках.

Por lo general, casi cualquier heredero de las plataformas 2D de Mario ha aportado su granito de arena ofreciendo velocidad (Sonic) o mejorando la exploración (Wario Land) e incluso cambiando un poquito el género generando otros, como los metroidvania, incluso cambiando el diseño artístico o la historia, algo... pero nunca he visto esto... 8BitBoy se presenta como una copia bastante descarada de Mario que no intenta innovar en nada y cuando lo intenta, se queda a medio gas. Para no parecer tan copia, los power ups de este juego hacen que BitBoy dispare una bola, cada vez más fuerte, rebota más, más daño y ya. No te da nada nuevo, no te da uno para volar, ni para correr más rápido ni nada, simplemente eso... dispara bolas, fin. El diseño de niveles es regulero, a veces no sabes por donde ir, otras te lo deja muy claro y otras... hace que se note mucho más lo malo que son los controles. Hay una cosa en desarrollo de videojuegos llamado "coyote jump" que este juego parece no tener y que hace que las plataformas tan ajustadas sean difíciles no por ti, sino por no estar bien implementada esta mecánica. Por lo demás, el juego en sí es aburrido, no tiene más, no hay nada que te incite a seguir jugando, no hay historia si quiera que te motive, no hay un claro objetivo ni siquiera hay una seña de progresión, además que los niveles se acaban haciendo repetitivos y bastante sosos.
Sí, es cierto, cuesta 1€, pero es que ni gratis lo jugaría, y mira que he intentado veces pasármelo, pero es que ni ganas tengo de volver a jugarlo.
I've always loved playing platformers, so it's only natural that I'd feel compelled to give this one a try. Now, I wouldn't dare to say that this is an overly ambitious title
You assume the role of this guy who seems to be feeling somewhat disappointed about his life, and by some unknown reason is suddenly sucked inside his Master System (I couldn't let to remember about the plotline from "The Cheetahmen")
This title has a classic premise where you need to travel across 5 different worlds, each one with 9 different levels and a boss. You can attack the enemies either by jumping on them or by getting yourself some grapes power-up, which can be upgraded 3 different times and which allows you to fire projectiles. There is also a shield that lets you take an extra shot, and then again, if you are hit once you lose your projectile attack and you have to start all over again
The game also has a score and lives system, nonetheless, I didn't really care about it; instead of worrying myself about collecting one-ups and making as much points as possible, I'd simply restart the game whenever I'd die, just so I could get to reload my save file and still keep the power-ups intact. Another thing that helped me to develop such strategy is the lack of check-points. Now, I'm not really saying that the levels are that long, then again, there're some parts that can be really annoying and it feels a bit frustrating having to start all over from the beginning
Another thing that I'd like to mention is that whenever you collect 100 coins, there's this RNG roll which adds a random power-up that you can get to use in the future. While this idea doesn't seem so bad, what makes me feel mad is if you have a really good item in there and collected enough coins for another item, it usually gets overwritten by something worse (kinda like breaking "Mario Kart's special item law")
Overall, there're no achievements or trading cards, so you don't really need to stress yourself about such things. Just think about some casual experience that can help you kill some time while you're listening to some music or podcasts

I think it's a decent game for Super Mario brothers fans. But it is not really a stand-alone project. I dropped it.
Pros.:
- Similar to Mario mechanics.
- Some novelties like upgrade of weapons, saves, etc.
- Easter eggs.
- Also, warp zones + special coins.
Cons.:
- Design. Sometimes you just fall where you are not supposed to.
- The idea of saves is awful. It should have been more flexible.
- Why cannot just start over from the checkpoint with all those lives and weapons?
fun and challenging little side scrolling platformer. not perfect, the controls feel a bit slidey and sometimes it felt like an input didnt register. however, these problems didnt ruin the game. stages are compact and fun to explore and it never feels unfair. not sure if the '8-12' hours of story mentioned on the store page is true though, its a fairly short game. fun for the price. flawed but charming

Looking for a simple game that wouldn't be too distracting, I looked at my platformer list, as I have so many titles in that category. Going with the first one there, I decided to install 8BitBoy (8BB). Looking at the overall score on Steam, it's just above 70%, which used to be my threshold for whether I wanted a game or not. However, the overall score for English-only reviews drops just below 70%. When I noticed that, my enthusiasm dipped, but it shouldn't be too time-consuming or difficult to play and review, so I decided to just go for it.
[h1]Gameplay[/h1]
Nintendo releasing Mario Maker was probably one of the smartest things they could have done. They've received so much criticism for not being more creative or diverse in their 2D Mario platformers, but even with a good tool kit, making engaging levels isn't that easy. In theory you just place ground tiles, gaps, power-ups, coins, and enemies. Once you reach a certain size and checklist of those features, you've got a good platforming level, right? If only it were that easy.
My reason for bringing this up is that 8BB has some of the same style as an older Mario game, but didn't make levels that were fun to play. A big part of my issue came from the controls, yet with how quickly I could get to the end of a stage if I didn't find secrets, I realized how lackluster the level design was. For a 2D platformer, that's the meat and potatoes of your game, because boring levels makes for a game that's not worth playing.
[h1]Controls[/h1]
It didn't take long before I started hating this game, and it all boils down to the controls and game feel. When you get power-ups, they allow you to shoot projectiles, which is the same button you'll hold down in order to run. This worked perfectly well in Super Mario Bros., and should work here too. However, even when I'd be holding the button down to run, sometimes my jumps would be much less powerful than I expected. Jumping has a floaty feeling that's not enjoyable anyways, but running and jumping only increases this issue further. I'd die from falling into a pit due to a botched jump, knowing that shouldn't have happened.
[h1]Story[/h1]
For the most part, I'm content with my life, as all my needs are met and I have a good job. That doesn't mean I haven't made choices I regret, so when the introduction outlined a man in his thirties with no good job prospects, I could empathize. I've worked some lousy jobs before, and can't predict what the future will hold for me. It jumps the rails pretty quickly once he finds a mysterious game cartridge, in a set-up that reminds me of creepy pastas. Not sure I've ever wanted to be transported into a video game, but if my life were in worse shape, that might be the ultimate escapism I'd long for.
[h1]Visuals[/h1]
There's no point in even pretending like much of this game isn't derivative of the Mario series. Birds and bugs were just swapped in as a replacement for goombas and koopas. Even the upraised fist from the character's jump animation, since that's how Mario breaks blocks, is a direct reference. However, the size and scale of the characters and enemies, especially with the puny blocks, makes me think of a Sega Genesis game, Kid Chameleon. The proportions seem closer to that design than how the Mario games look, although Super Mario Land does have the tiny blocks. Overall, I don't love the game's appearance, but at least it's not a strain on the eyes.
[h1]Sound Design[/h1]
The music that plays during a boss battle is horrific. It screeches and squawks, which I guess matches the bird motif, but it's so unpleasant to listen to. Outside of those tracks, the rest of the music is perfectly fine. By contrast it sounds like a chorus of angels. With certain decisions made in this game, I can't help but wonder if somebody giving the developer feedback made terrible suggestions he took seriously or if he self-sabotaged for some reason. Otherwise, the music being this bad makes no sense to me.

🌟 If someone were to finish the game, the pep talk ending is kind of nice.
🌟 Fruits are no worse a power-up choice than mushrooms and flowers.
[h1]Cons[/h1]
❌ Having three power-ups to upgrade your projectiles is largely pointless. Basic enemies won't be what hurts or kills you, as long as you have a projectile. It'll be blind jumps and instant-death traps. I'm pretty sure these were put in to deal with the boss fights, which are minor variants of the first one.
❌ For a game that wants you to explore so much, it's really counter-productive to have a timer, let alone one so tight.
❌ I don't really like the trajectory of the projectiles. The way they ricochet off walls seems inconsistent or random.
[h1]Tips[/h1]
🔍 If you really wanted to get the true ending, just look up a guide for where the hidden coins are located. Otherwise, looking for secrets isn't a good use of your time.
🔍 Be really positive the jump you're attempting will be the right distance before committing.
[h1]Final Thoughts[/h1]
At first, I was trying to find secret areas, but before long I realized how little fun 8BB was. Each stage has a hidden coin, yet with hidden blocks and fake walls also leading to other rewards like coins or power-ups, you can spend time locating something you weren't hoping to find. Jamming so many little rewards on top of more worthwhile ones within all the stages makes it feel like a waste of time.
Ultimately, why do I want to blindly jump around looking for invisible blocks, when I know most of them will just give me what's already in abundance in the stage anyways? Not when I can ignore all those distractions, book it for the end, and clear a stage in a minute or less. Assuming the controls don't screw me out of a jump. If I wanted the true end that would be the wrong tack to take, but I'm not playing through a game with controls this sloppy. I don't recommend 8BB.

El juego tiene buenas mecánicas, los controles se sienten “bien” y la música es buena, pero los niveles son pobres, los enemigos repetitivos y se notan como forzados. Los Power up también se notan repetidos, tanto el verde, rojo y negro hacen básicamente lo mismo. Entre niveles demora un montón cargando (imagino que a propósito, para darle ese “aspecto” retro, pero recordemos que en los videojuegos de cartucho la carga era instantánea)
Jogo entrega o que promete.

It's definitely not better than Mario or other classics from the 80s and 90s.
-The soundtracks are forgettable.
-The level design is horrible and also forgettable. It's full of Death Traps, and a difficulty line that goes up and down.
-Quantity is not quality, but the developer literally focused exclusivily in 'Quantity'. There's just too much levels...
-The game itself misses charisma, it just looks generic as hell.
-The gameplay is sloppy, and feels out of place.
Well, atleast the developer tried, but It simply is not better than Mario or other classics from the SNES/NES or Genesis.
This game was the bee's knees. I've had it for yeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaars just wasting away in my library with little play, as younger me, admittedly, couldn't handle the difficulty. Well I came back and I am glad I did! Sure, it had tight jumps and some things were more random, but I feel that that just added to the fresh and exhilarating feel of exploring and mastering the levels. I am not typically a guy that 100% games after the mainline is beaten, but man I just wanted more. Rasmus, thank you for this game, and please continue zooming after your passion, as I'll be raring and ready for the next challenge to come.

Really wish there was a middle option between yes and no. This isn't a bad game, but it does nothing to stand out from the million other Mario clones that have come out since the dawn of Super Mario Bros.

É um indie 2D de plataforma com uma história bem bobinha (consiste em um adulto desempregado que encontra um cartucho de videogame no porão de casa, que o transporta pra dentro de um universo em 8 bits).
As referências a clássicos como Super Mario, Alex Kidd e Sonic e outros games de época são bem evidentes, mas ainda assim, o jogo em si acaba sendo inferior em comparação aos mesmos. Os gráficos e a pixel art geral estão legais, embora eu tenha achado os bichinhos mais caprichados que o próprio protagonista. As músicas e efeitos sonoros são bem nostálgicos, induzindo aos jogos oldschool. Já a dificuldade, achei tanto balanceada quanto frustrante em alguns momentos. É bem relativo, mas eu precisei de várias tentativas pra conseguir passar algumas fases.
Apesar de ter variações de power-ups, caminhos alternativos, segredos em algumas fases e 5 mundos (o primeiro se passando em bosques, o segundo em um deserto, o terceiro na neve, o quarto em uma cidade futurista e o quinto em um mundo pós-apocalíptico), esse jogo se torna muito repetitivo. Os mundos são desnecessariamente longos e o level design não estimula a progressão entre as fases. Outro ponto negativo são os bosses finais, que se tratam de variações do mesmo monstro e possuem uma hitbox absurda.
Mesmo assim, é um bom passa-tempo... quem gosta de games com uma pegada retrô com certeza vai encontrar bons momentos com esse joguinho.
I wouldn't ever recommend paying money for this game, but if you got it for free like I did and don't have any better 2D platformers in your backlog to play, this one is perfectly serviceable. It's a very obvious and very stiff 2D Mario ripoff, but my little brother and I had enough fun playing through it back when I was in college and couldn't afford better games.

I'm old enough to remember playing these type of games on my 8-bit computer back in the day. While the design is generic and predictable (like most of them, I might add), the graphics match the style of the period, reminding me that you don't need great graphics to make a good game. When all is said and done, it is a good homage to a time long gone.
