A visual novel about a young adult living through several key moments in her life, as she tries to remember important details about her past.
Two years ago in the autumn of 2043, a mysterious figure known as "The Shadow Reaper" tore through the island nation of Calloway City before suddenly vanishing, taking 24 USSA Peacekeepers with him. Almost a year later in the summer of 2044, the Shadow Reaper struck again, this time causing a whopping 32 members of the Calloway City senate to fall into a coma. It is now the summer of 2045. Two years have passed since the Shadow Reaper claimed his first victim. His methods were never discovered, and neither could the available evidence point to any one suspect. With the investigation hitting a standstill, the case has all but gone cold. Our protagonist has been called down to the police station to testify about the Shadow Reaper, but her memory of the last two years is worryingly hazy. Can she recall enough details about the case, and her life, before both escape her?

Dear Game Maker,
This game showed a lot of heart. You can clearly tell the love that was put into it. The characters were unique and the gameplay was fun... when I got to play the game. The dialogue was entirely too long and created a lot of dull moments. The main story was fine and the plot specific character interactions were good but there was so much filler. If each play through could be reduced to about 3 hours instead of 5 you have something good on your hands. The music was great and added a lot to the experience. It really set the mood. But in the end, the boss fights were my favorite part. Each one showed a different gameplay type that kept things fresh and made each one a challenge. All the different mini games in each battle were fun to learn on the fly with the pressure of the battle behind you.
First of all I want to say I love, love, love the artwork. It's full of surprises and loaded with color. I bought this game a while ago and really enjoyed playing through it. It has really fun and quirky artwork and motion graphics, and a beautiful soundtrack including original music by Bell Kalengar.
The story is a dive into people's minds as they continue to exist in a state of unreason, it's thoughtful and explores some esoteric ideas. I enjoyed the unravelling the mystery as well as the music and graphics.
The characters designs are colorful and unique, and as I progressed through the story, I realized that it has many layers of meaning and messages, which go from the seemingly superficial to the deeply philosophical.
World Without Reason is set in a dystopian unreasonable system, and touches upon currently relevant issues of equity and inclusion as the backdrop while exploring how people behave under the pressure of an unreasonable world.
The underlying theme explores how a system of selective oppression and a group of people's feelings and actions of superiority adversely affect those they oppress, and then in turn how the response of the oppressed affects the oppressors. It's a cycle that can only end when both sides can come together and see each other as human beings worthy of life, freedom and respect.
There was a nice balance of plot and character development, which I appreciate in a visual story. The conversations are meaningful, even if it's not immediately apparent, and I loved the partial voice acting, which gave the characters even more life.
The story has a complex plot, is non-linear, and has multiple branching paths and alternate endings which gave me the freedom to explore the consequences of my various decisions. Those consequences also made me think about the deeper messages in the story when I was able to get through a few of them.
There is also a subtle darkly comical element in some of the artwork and dialogue.
You play as Miss Audacity, a girl grappling with fragmented memories, racing against time to piece together her past and uncover the mystery of the elusive “Shadow Reaper.”
I definitely recommend making good use of the timeline map and the glossary, which helped me keep track of things as I was going along through the intricate plot.
If you appreciate visual novels that blend thoughtful storytelling with fun and unique artwork and music, I highly recommend giving World Without Reason a try. It offers a lot of eye candy, and an emotional journey, one that made me reflect on how we treat one another, friendship, second chances, and the choices that define us.
This game is wonderful with amazing unique art and backgrounds, great atmospheric music, and voice acting, excellent writing, and a wonderful time travel mind bending RPGmaker adventure game like feel to it.
I recommend this highly at the price it is offered especially since you can fail minigames and keep going! There are a lot of features to this game and it is quite long for the price. It has almost otome like elements in a way but this is more of an adventure thriller game. Any RPGamker horror game will give you similar vibes to this one and I love them especially the ones that are visual novels too! VG Person, BBBirthday is extremely similar to this in some ways so I suggest to go play that ones next if you haven't. Be warned this game is amazing, lighthearted, and realistic and that one is traumatizing but it's about sisters and has mini games and a similar story!
