A very competent arcade racer with a wide selection of cars. While they had to get rid of the car branding for the champion edition, there's a mod that can bring the cars and liveries back to their licensed counterparts. It even has a free roaming mode for people who just want to drive around without worrying about other racers or hitting checkpoints.

an absolute old gold game. The graphics quite dont hold up to 2025 standards but still looks decent enough. the moddablity is whats keeping this game alive and its a good thing there are soo many mods for it. The AI is absolutely diabolical in this game, they cheat infact using extreme rubber banding and most races are 50 skills and 50 luck, either you wish you dont crash or you wish the opponent does. Beating the career is a total challenge. The driving physics are also very good as compared so many "modern games".

Długo się zastanawiałem nad zakupem, ze względu na brak promocji, brak polskiego i grafikę jak z czasów PS1. Ale nie żałuję. Ta grafika robi klimat. Excelente jogo. Muitos veículos, um modo carreira com muitas corridas e missões, uma dificuldade agradável, pistas legais e modo Joyride pra explorar os locais, ótima performance.

Pra quem tem mais experiência com jogos de corrida, recomendo desativar o Modo Arcade Plus, ele deixa todos os carros do jogo com tração nas 4 rodas, deixando o jogo muito arcade. Com ele desativado, dá pra brincar com carros de tração traseira e é preciso um pouco de cuidado com a aceleração nos carros mais rápidos do jogo em curvas e desníveis, mas claro tudo bem pouco, não deixa de ser um arcade completo.

E ainda tem suporte do Steam Workshop, um monte de carros, pistas e locais extras pra brincar.

[h1] NFS HOT PURSUIT 4 [/h1]

This game rightfully deserves to be considered one of the most unfairly underrated racing games of its time. It masterfully blends subtle difficulty tuning, letting you try both simulation-level challenges and pure arcade fun. There’s no deep storyline here, and the settings include Hawaii, Miami, and Germany. In terms of vibe, the game is very close to projects like Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 and its 2010 reimagining, though, of course, you shouldn’t expect tracks on the moon or around erupting volcanoes.

One of its biggest perks is the huge variety of cars. The garage has everything—from parodies of the Lancia Delta to sports cars reminiscent of McLaren, and the iconic racer-style cars that give off a Mafia 1 vibe. Even though this is a remaster and a slightly altered version of the 2005 original, and it doesn’t have official car licenses, the in-game "parodies" don’t feel tacky and at the same time don’t copy real cars exactly.

The damage system and how it looks were solid even for the 2005 original and still look great today. Of course, you won’t see engines catching fire or wheels flying off, but the visual deformations are impressive. The track variety is also a plus: while the game, aside from the main countries, really only has five full maps, and all races logically take place in different corners of these maps, the number of tracks is huge, and they never get boring even after many hours of play.

As for the physics, the cars actually feel like cars. Unlike, say, the "Crash Time" series, here you genuinely learn from your mistakes when you lose, figuring out how to take a turn properly or which shortcut to use, instead of blaming luck or misunderstanding the objectives (and yes, WR 2 - CE also has races with objectives, and for the most part, they’re not too easy).

Talking about the level tasks. All of them are mandatory (if you miss even one, your win won't count). And, even though you earn currency for extra moves on the track like cutting corners and drifting, they give you way too much, and there’s not much to spend it on (other than vinyls and wheels, there’s really nothing else to jazz up).

And, as usual, there are some quirks. The most noticeable one (though mostly neutral) is the AI behavior. Even on 'balanced' difficulty, opponents sometimes fake mistakes by just crashing into barriers. And some, when overtaking, might nudge you on purpose, which can easily spin your car 360 degrees, making any advantage from such 'accidents' disappear pretty quickly. On top of that, reverse gear doesn’t always work properly.

Another small glitch is linked to the "No Escape" event. Sometimes, when going through this event (for me, progress suddenly jumped from 73% to 100%), some bug or weird feature can happen — it’s not entirely clear which. But if you win this event, whose winning conditions aren’t always obvious and which can technically go on forever, your career can be considered fully completed, instantly unlocking all previously uncompleted levels.

That said, World Racing 2 - Champion Edition shows that old games can be carefully preserved and improved over time, not just milked for all they’ve got. With achievements, Steam Cloud, and Steam Workshop support added, this version of the game is a solid choice among older racing titles.

Rage Bait of a racing game. Costed me around 2 dollars, a controller and my sanity to finish this game, and it was worth it. The good old progression system and a decent fun racing game with variation in tracks, cars and game modes.

The bad side is the sometimes unpredictable handling, especially on keyboard (since my controller died) and the AI have some crazy speed, so you need to take advantage of cuts and nitro(when available) to get past those pesky AI.

Another big issue is that you need to WIN every race at least upto the "No escape" mission to ensure that you can unlock the next races as otherwise the percentage of completion does not go up (a really stupid game design).

And the traffic cars are just absolute cinema, they seem to multiply on the last lap so that you hit them and crash. like bruh why you wanna crash me, crash the AI dummy.

Either way, its a fun game to play with some rage moments. Have fun :)

Возвращать старые гонки в продажу - дело благородное, даже если сама игра при этом не из топов жанра. WR2 как раз такая. Есть смешные ошибки перевода с немецкого на английский, есть странная сложность (иногда честная, иногда нет), есть очень дешёво звучащая музыка, есть баги с подсчётом процента прохождения карьеры. Ещё и по дороге растерялись все лицензии на автомобили. 20 лет назад WR2 не перевернула мир, но за сам факт её добавления сюда всё равно спасибо.

You can tell that this is a game made by people who love racing games themselves, it's balanced so that it never feels trivial, but also not impossible, the variation of race types, car types and so on is incredible. Collision physics could be better, but that doesn't get in the way of enjoying the game, because it gives you reason to avoid collisions, and AI cars usually aren't that aggressive. People new to racing games who like to feel successful without putting in a lot of effort might wanna steer clear of this, it can be rather frustrating under these conditions.

Alright, so World Racing 2 - a game I never heard of until fairly recently when it got released in 2022. It's been on my radar sitting on my wishlist unsure of when I'll actually pick it up. I wasn't exactly eager given that I did try one of the other ports for another one of their games, Have a N.I.C.E. Day, but it barely worked on modern machines because it was so old. The game was too N.I.C.H.E. to have any community patches to fix it either. I was worried that World Racing 2 would suffer the same fate. But, $4 on today's sale, why not give it a shot. And I'm glad I did.

I've seen some sentiments from users here that accuse the game of having a good review score because nostalgia does the heavy lifting. Common criticisms are the strict progression system, the AI cheating, and the cars not feeling all that good too drive especially with drifting.

Well, as someone who has no ties to the game's history, allow me to drop a truth nuke:

You are bad. You suck at racing games.

I was a pleasantly surprised by this game's physics. On the surface, it seems like nothing more than a silly little arcade racer, but there is a surprising amount of sim DNA. There's depth to the uniqueness of how every car feels. You actually have to know how to properly brake, hit apexes, how to throw the car's weight around, and how to properly drift the car all for the sake of maintaining momentum. As a car autist I felt right at home. The AI does offer a fair bit of challenge which people who aren't good at racing games will definitely find way too difficult. But if you're a racing game veteran like myself, they'll offer you a fair bit of a fight but they're totally beatable.

I haven't put much time outside of the beginning tracks in the career mode, but there seems to a good amount of variety in the event types. The sense of speed is really good. And it's honestly just a good game overall.

Visually, I'm also impressed with this game, but I'm also not sure if this due to an upgrade with this version or this is how the game always looked. Either way, this is strangely a very pretty game for being so old. There's a ton of beautiful landscapes and vistas, good traffic density, and a lot of nice little details on the map that really makes the worlds you race in feel alive and lived in. The track layouts are good and offer up a ton of variety even in the curated closed circuit events the game throws you in.

Also, as far as the port goes, this is a great port. Works right out of the box, has borderless full screen, ultrawide support, high frame rates don't break anything, it's just a very well done re-release. Outside of the game no longer being real world cars due to licensing expirations, it can easily be restored with mods. The game has steam workshop integration too which is always a nice bonus. Controller support is also flawless even using other controllers that aren't Xbox related so long as you use Steam's input.

Overall, if you're looking for a challenging racer, or even something that resembles your childhood, this game is 100% worth the price of admission, especially if it's on sale for $4.

[b]Questa in realtà è una re-release dell'omonimo gioco lanciato nel lontano 2005, questa volta però sotto il nome di "Champion Edition", l'unica differenza è che le auto sono state sostituite con modelli non su licenza dato che gli sviluppatori non disponevano più dei diritti dei marchi. Inoltre ora il gioco è più stabile e non avrà il problema di DRM che il gioco originale invece soffriva, e che ha causato problemi ai PC di molte persone.
Parlando del gioco in se è molto semplice a livello concettuale: hai diversi campionati, vinci le gare, completa gli obiettivi, ecc. Vincendo gare guadagnerete anche soldi che serviranno per comprare nuove macchine e piste dove poter gareggiare in modalità personalizzata, e sarà anche possibile personalizzare la vernice, le aerografie e le ruote di quasi ogni veicolo.
Purtroppo a livello pratico il gioco risulta essere non poco impegnativo dato sia dall'inconsistenza dell'IA che già dall'inizio non ci andrà molto leggera e sia dal fatto che il sistema di guida non è terribile ma ha molte sbavature, specialmente il freno che ho particolarmente odiato dato che le macchine in questo gioco tendono a slittare molto specialmente se premerete il freno appieno invece che dolcemente.
Questo gioco potrebbe piacervi se state cercando qualcosa di più lineare e non troppo complesso senza il solito open world pieno di attività secondarie. A me personalmente non ha fatto impazzire, il gioco ha non pochi difetti, però lo reputo comunque un buon passatempo.[/b]

After completing career mode on 100 percent, I can finally write this review. This review is about 100 percent simulation driving setting!

So, I will start with the complaints about difficulty. I am not saying the game is not difficult, it is, but in a good way. Where in new racing games do you find this need to get better, learn the car and track and master the physics to get gold or complete the missions? No script, just you racing the world :)
Of course you could notice the rubber-banding, but when you catch up, or your opponents do, they can give you a really hard time and so can you, it happened to me few times on some tracks I knew well the AI couldnt catch up from first lap of the race.

Then the physics, which dissapointed me a bit on the start of the carreer, when you drive cars with FWD and not much power, cars felt too much like on rails. Then with driving other, RWD, AWD cars you could really feel the physics of MBWR, which was perfect for me and I did not understood why the changed it like that. Of course I understood that MBWR was more like a sim racer, but WR2 needed to Evolve, and with racing much faster than in MBWR, you need to keep the cars also on the road, so thats why they cannot slide so easily. I also drove some cars modded into the game, and they felt much more like in MBWR, so that just confirmed my thoughts.

The gear ratios of the cars and the way their physics are set, sometimes dont make sense - a 500 HP 5.0 litre with 550 Nm does not need 3 gears to reach 100 KPH! Especially a racing versions of the cars, which in reality would need 1-2 gears to reach 100 KPH. The game is just wasting the power of the cars, and I noticed this a lot on other models too. Sometimes a 200 HP car feels much faster than those racing verisons which is funny :D. On the other way, some too long gear ratios kill also the power output on some cars. One more thing is the automatic shifting which is horrible, it really lets the engine go to the redline, then shifts up, you turn or go uphill, suddenly shifts down, then realizes the RPM is too low so shifts back down when the engine just would go even from lower RPMs if its higher cubature like 5.0. So I played the game only on manual transmission.

To steering - on keyboard under 100 KPH is too sharp and really doesnt let you build up speed, because the tires under 100 KPH grips so much. I tried to lower the steering input speed with the deadzone setting, but it does nothing. I played the original WR2 on steering wheel and you could really nicely eliminate this and drive faster.

Other than that the environment and tracks are really nice and technical, with much elevations, which change the cars behavior when pushing it to the limit which only adds up to the nice physics of Synetic :)

I would be very happy to see the sequel to this great game and see the further evolution of Synetics very unique and nice physics model. But that will most likely not happen, so we must really appreciete this gem among racing games and its modding possibilities which add completely new dimension playing it.

delicious game. synetic are a top 5 original driving model developer. highly recommended to fans of need for speed up to hot pursuit 2 or the flatout and burnout series. arcade racing with an excellent legacy. imagine if stainless of carmaggeddon fame tried a little harder. even without workshop support and modernizing the game with recent patches and updates it would be entirely worth it, all that stuff is just an incredible bonus. playing for a bit to have a good frame of reference for the alarm for cobra 11 \ crashtime series. I wish more of the games were available on steam but oh well. they had to gut this one pretty hard of all the licensed cars and that was probably a pain. worth it though to retain control and distribution of an incredible product.

Ich hatte damals als Kind leider nur World Racing 1 gehabt und wusste gar nicht das es einen zweiten Teil gab aber nun konnte ich dies nachholen. Trotz das das Game einige Jahre auf dem Buckel hat macht es mir dennoch sehr viel Spaß

Ich würde mir sogar wünschen das es irgendwann hier auch den ersten Teil geben würde

It's still fun today :) When World Racing 3? Honestly this is the only racing game that I ever really had fun with, thanks to the wide variety of cars, mods, fun drifting, beautiful maps, fun to race against a friend, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ AI that makes it quite challenging as it is as dumb as it is unfair. It's also one of those games from a time in which 3D worlds started looking quite good - and which was complete, no DLCs, no massive patching etc. It holds up today if you know what you expect. Too bad there was never a successor.

Gra jest niegrywalna przez niebotyczny poziom trudności przeciwników. Niektóre wyścigi można powtarzać po kilka razy ( w najlepszym wypadku). Grafika jest rzeczywiście poprawiona względem oryginału. Pojazdy straciły licencję a muzyka dalej trzyma poziom.

This is a kinda Eurojank racer that is a sequel to Mercedes Benz World Racing (and was originally MBWR2 before the re-release that removed the licensed trademarks.) It's a goofy but charming game, with physics that are hard to describe but don't feel bad at all. It plays out in a career mode that is comprised of a variety of vehicle-specific challenges, with not as many standard races as I'd like. There's not car customization either, aside from choosing colors/rims.

However, as soon as I found out the game has Steam Workshop support, I all but forgot about the career mode. The content already on the workshop is a goldmine. Tons of custom cars, and a lot of fantastic tracks. Some of my favorites are ported tracks from Porsche Unleashed. Even Atlantica from NFS3 is on there and they play great in this game. Be sure to grab the tracks from MBWR 1 like Alps too. Even on custom tracks and with custom cars, you still earn currency to unlock content, so it feels well integrated into the game. If you like the sound of sandbox racing with custom cars and tracks and BeamNG or Assetto are stale for you, I'd definitely recommend WR2.

[h2]While in a lot of aspects World Racing 2 CE is a massive improvement over the original game, there are still a lot of areas in which the game shows its age.[/h2]

[h3]Positives:[/h3]
WR2CE undoes the biggest error the original game made by restoring the handling model from Synetic's previous game: Mercedes-Benz World Racing. It's not fully there compared directly to MBWR but it's a lot closer and light years ahead of the awful handling introduced in the original WR2.

It looks good. I personally like the era that this game is from, for visuals: Games still looking like games and not trying to be reality. Of course in this regard it looks dated, but then I think modern games mostly look like they're all running on the same engine.

You can add your own music to the game. It's not user-friendly though as there's no full MP3 support. You have to convert your music files first into WMA format before the game will recognise them. Some MP3's work as I found one or two did for some reason, but the majority will come out sounding like elongated static in-game. For an easy life it's better to convert all the songs you want into 192kb WMA's.

The career mode is lengthy and features a variety of events on-road and off-road that allow you to try out the majority of the cars in the game.

[h3]Negatives:[/h3]
Firstly the player car has no mass whatsoever. It's mildly frustrating when an AI opponent exploits this by coming up alongside you and nudges you off the track. It's downright annoying when you collide with a traffic car and catapult backwards adopting all of the traffics inertia with none of yours featuring in the equation.

The "driver discipline" rating is utter nonsense deeming any kind of opponent contact as "unfair" even if you weren't the instigator. This is then compounded with you also getting a "severe driving error" penalty for any resulting crash/spin from the contact that wasn't your fault. You'll also lose points for cutting corners even though the whole reason you're cutting the corners is to avoid traffic/opponent contact. I found it was the lesser of two evils to ruthlessly cut the tracks if it avoided potentially costly collisions. Nevertheless the whole system is broken.

Likewise the drifting system is flawed with it calling long-controlled slides that maintain your velocity merely "good slides". And then full-sideways skids that lose the majority of your speed and then snap straight "fantastic slides". If you're buying the game just for the drifting then it's not worth it. It doesn't know what good drifting is and it's a racing game first and foremost.

Unfortunately there's a whole heap of catch-up in races. If you've been taken out by the AI on lap 2 then it means you can still win the race, even if it makes no sense. But on the flipside of this is that you can be driving fast and flawlessly yet still be caught and overtaken by half the field all of a sudden despite you all being in the same car. In fact I got the distinct impression throughout my play time that the opponents cars were faster than mine: They always had a little extra on straights.

The lack of official licenses for the cars may irk some people. Frankly I didn't care, you can tell what the majority of the cars are supposed to be even if they look a little different. There are mods which will restore the licensed content but these do not then have the modernised car models as they're ripped from the original release. Personally I'd rather have better-looking unofficial cars. Having said that, a couple of them I haven't a clue at what they used to be and they're really ugly!

All of the car engines sound like cement mixers or kitchen appliances; there isn't an interesting tone amongst them. The real Alfa 8c is one of the best-sounding cars you'll hear; in this game it sounds like a Kenwood food mixer. It's a similar story for all of the other interesting cars.

The on-car viewpoints are both set too low. I get it for the bumper-cam as it's a bumper-cam. However it's pretty useless being so close to the road in a game that requires you to be able to see beyond the next hump in the road. The hood-cam is also too low and has the added issue of the cars' hood taking up 33% of the screen. As a result, until you know the tracks the only practical views are the external ones. Not good if you're looking for some immersion.

The OSD is not independently scaleable so if you're using a modern resolution then all the dials and track map are tiny: You have to glance a long way away from where you're heading in order to see the information. This is particularly problematic as you have to have the map on to know when there's traffic coming up.

The control configurator doesn't recognise all the buttons of controllers attached. It won't let you remap the default modern trigger controls for Accel/Brake and so you have to use the Steam controller remapper to have things the way you like them; and that itself has its own issues.

[h3]Verdict:[/h3]
Even though there are way more negatives than positives, WR2CE is still a good game. If you can get over the fact that you'll usually need to restart races half a dozen times thanks to nothing that you did wrong, then you'll have a good time.
It's a challenge for sure as all the physics, mass, OSD and traffic issues collude to make the game artificially hard. But it is satisfying to finally conquer a race after countless failed attempts: This despite knowing that you're going to have your patience tested similarly in the next round of the career.

Thanks to the licensing issues, there's a distinct lack of old racing games on Steam and even though World Racing 2 Champion Edition isn't a great one, it's still worth playing. Just expect to have your patience tested.

I have years of experience in racing games, but I can't even get past the "tutorial" missions for this game because of how difficult the AI is.

Even playing Forza Horizon on Unbeatable Difficulty feels more fair and doable. I rarely dole out refunds, but I had no choice but to do so for this.

Back in 2005 or 6 I had ps2 and owned World Racing 1: mercedez benz. The game was super advanced for its time. Good music, realistic cars and locations. Not the biggest car fan but there were some games I really loved.
I never played the WR 2 but the nostalgia hit me. Thank you for bringing this game here for modern pc.
If you by any chance can get the 1st one, even without the licensed cars, I'm in! <3

PS - it is worth mention that by playing the game you unlock new maps and cars.
Cars can't be customized, but you can free road on unlocked maps and explore them in full for whoever time you want.
The game is old, but the areas look and feel alive.

AI has faster cars than you (even though you all drive the same rust-buckets) and rubberbanding more than in Forza Horizon 5. You will have a very bad time if you want to actually play career and progress in races. Also "save operation failed" and unable to save any settings for some reason.

After reading that "This won't work on Windows 11" I was apprehensive about buying the game. But, hey , I am pleasantly surprised. I enjoy playing both arcade and sim, but so far I've only played the arcade version. There's been no problem using a WIFI Xbox controller alongside some keyboard assists. The graphics are cool and the damage and the obstacles and damage are realistic enough. This game goes to my favourites.

Only played a few races but I'm writing this review to say the game works perfectly on Steam Deck. Just make sure to change the controls to gamepad from the options after you make a profile.

I love early 00s racing games and the few races I did do are pretty fun. It also looks really good for its time with all the graphics options maxed out (AA wasn't on by default)

The AI in this game is absolute terrible; they're always driving at high-speeds and hardly brake. They're godlike and impossible to beat unless you abuse dirty tactics like taking shortcuts and herding them into a crash. Even then, it's still difficult to win. One little mistake can ruin your race, so you better make sure not to crash at all or you will never be able to catch up. Every race in career mode is like this!

Sometimes you need to earn extra win conditions like raking enough drift points and/or having an average speed, while the same demands are not imposed on other racers. This makes the game absolutely not fun. If you're not into perfectionism and unfair races, look somewhere else.

As a nostalgic person, an achievement hunter and a racing enthusiast I'm gonna finish the game. But I can't see the value of this re-release. I'm halfway through the campaign and have yet to encounter anything that deserves the additional title of 'champion edition'. It's the same game from 2006 released for steam with achievements for all I can tell.

- The rubber banding of the AI isn't the worst out there, but I find it to be annoying in every racing game nonetheless.
- the Career Ranking system has never made much sense to me and it feels pretty cheap. There's also some 'tips' in loading screens that seem misleading
- The worst thing: the keyboard controls. No matter how quick you tap, steering with keyboard automatically loses you speed. Handling the cars becomes increasingly difficult with KB, some cars feel almost as if they're refusing to be properly controlled at all. Meanwhile the AI is cruising with the perfect lines through corners catching up to you. The Career event "seagull classics I" makes this painfully obvious. Unless the AI crashes by itself there's basically no way to win that race unless you cut corners and/or play unfair.
- Edit & Fun Fact: The Mission "No Escape" is broken so that if you actually lap your opponents the game will just take the time difference of the lapped 2nd who drove 2 instead of 3 laps and take that as your lead for the next race.

TL;DR: Could be a worthwhile buy at a sale for nostalgic people, but I don't see any value in here for newcomers.

Classic arcade racing game with fun handling, a damage model, well designed maps & exotic cars.

Auh Weiha, was ist aus einem der besten Fun Racer aller Zeiten geworden? Alle Fahrzeuge mit einem "Wr" Icon und Phantasie Namen verschandelt! Nix ist, mit dem STEAM Workshop Zugriff auf Mods. Ist im Game gar nicht vorgesehen. Was soll das? Immerhin unterstützt das Game jetzt WQHD und läuft butterweich, wärend die original CD von Anno Tobak lediglich Full HD unterstützt. Sicher, die - für damalige Möglichkeiten - super Grafik lockt heutzutage niemand mehr hinterm Ofen vor. Was WR2 ausmacht, sind die vielen Fahrzeuge, die teilweise auf die 10tel Sekunde ausgefeilten Strecken und Gegner, die eben nicht wie an der Perlenschnur gezogen fahren, sondern drängeln und schieben wo´s nur geht, auch Fehler machen und das alles mitten im Verkehr. Es ist nicht nur fahren und gewinnen, es gibt viele verschiedene Renn Modi, die spannender nicht sein könnten. Auch der Gema freie Soundtrack fetzt immer noch wie am 1. Tag! Wem nach sauspannendem Rennen die Finger zittern, der weiss, wovon ich rede. Ausser bei dem letzten großen Rennen gegen elfundneunzigzweiunddreissig Streifenhörnchen in NfS-Most Wanted 1 ist mir sowas bei keinem anderen Rennspiel passiert- und ich kenne sie alle. Gegen das geniale Gameplay, die direkte Steuerung in Verbindung mit dem treibenden Soundtrack und dem fordernden Schwierigkeitsgrad von WR2 sind die letzten NfS Teile nur noch kalter Kaffee. Wer sich mit der angestaubten Grafik - die auch Heute noch butterweich läuft - anfreunden kann, bekommt eines der besten Rennspiele ever für kleine Gage...

круговые гонки по 3 минуты на круг - пф, вперед.
полоска траэктории, бордюры-помощники на поворотах - пф, не тот год. побеждает самый хитрый.
модель повреждения! нитро!
ассортимент авто конечно не форза, но моё почтение.
невероятная свобода выбора маршрута в офроуд заездах, привет дакар.
вагон фпс, ультраширокоформат, адаптивный fov, привет мои 240гц монитор и конечно же ваха спейс маринес два.

This is such a nostalgia trip.

The physics is so perfectly arcade, in a good way. And the fact that the AI is so streamlined on the racing line is really cool to see from this old game, even though they are a bit broken in some races.

It's by far not perfect, but it's a gem.

Yet its extreme challenge is super fun and after finishing it, I felt true relief.
There are tons of cars and quite a lot of maps as well, the driving physics are great, typical Synetic quality.
All in all a great, but hard game!

World Racing 2 takes me back. I played all the various different demos back in the day, finding the handling a little bit strange at first but somehow digging the package - as "cheap" as it may have felt in certain aspects, you could absolutely feel the developers love the world of cars, and made engaging races on street, off-road and everything they thought of. I had to buy the full game eventually and, indeed, I wasted a lot of hours on that too - pretty sure I went to the end of the campaign then, despite some rubberbanding issues and an extremely inconsistent difficulty in the campaign.

This remaster is, for better or worse, what the original game was with slight upgrades. It runs fine on modern systems with great performance, though it doesn't seem to natively recognize my Xbox Series X|S controller. Still, I used to play this on a keyboard back in the day, and I find the unusual handling of this game to work rather well with it to this day, despite not having played it for what, 18 years? The rubberbanding issues and the inconsequential difficulty remain, and the game's menus and general presentation remain as "cheap" as they were back in the day, but boy: this is a fun racer.ù

It's hard to even put into words what exactly works so well. The handling is strange, yet satisfying - there's a proper damage model, there's a very well-made slipstream, drifts are tough but rewarding, and the game (optionally) shows you cool replays when you do a nice drift, jump or something cool in general. It's nice how the game also actively rewards playing fair, doing clean overtakes, not cutting and more - albeit, this becomes somewhat tough at times with the way the opponents just rubberband the hell out of each race, so having a 6 second lead coming into the final lap means NOTHING.

Another key aspect of World Racing 2, and of this remaster, is the sheer variety of events. The vast campaign has you do time trials, standard 3-5 lap races, test drives, elimination races, open world checkpoint hunts and so much more, in different biomes, with or without traffic, on the roads or purely offroad, all with a huge variety of vehicles that indeed behave differently.

In the end, the main reason I recommend World Racing 2 is because there really aren't racers like this. It's certainly not without flaws, but the atypical handling, the very unique events and hell, even the way you have to outplay the "cheating" AI makes for a completely unique experience in the world of racing games. The devs went on to make a lot of Crash Time games later on, and while they are very fun on their own, I don't think they come close to the ambition and style World Racing 2 offered all those years ago.

If I were to shortly describe this game it would be :

Insane Laziness with Crippling incompetence

- Remove difficulty slider. Why? because without the idiotic AI the game is barebones.
- Graphics from PS2 era on a 2006 game that was RE-RELEASED.
- Music? You mean that generic loops ♥♥♥♥ made by unknown people?
- Car sounds from PS1 era

The only redeeming "quality" of this game is, as always is with junk games, the community who created content that developers were too incompetent to do.

Germany should really stick to work, not making videogames.

Since all of the reviews say that the Career mode is danged near impossible because of the rubberbanding, I began the game using the AmEx cheat. I went into casual mode and bought a Hawaiian track and a car.

I started the race and went out into a early lead, but missed a hairpin turn. My car flew off the track, sailed off a cliff, smashed head-on into a bridge, and sank to the bottom of the bay, where it landed upside-down.

Would drown again. 10/10

TIP: Use the AmEx cheat. Purchase the Westfield Eleven (snazzy rims optional). Buy the figure 8 track ("Crashtime"). Drift like crazy, have fun, make piles of money.

The AI in career mode is trash and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, it rubberbands like crazy (same as in the original release, not the remaster's fault).

However, the driving is fun and the amount of vehicles and tracks to choose from in free mode is quite something. I'm a bit biased because I played this when I was little, but I still think it's fair for me to say it's an enjoyable game and definitely worth 10€ (or 5 if you're buying it on 50% discount like it is at the time of me writing this review).

World Racing 2 has been published back in 2005, the champion edition is a remastered version of it. The game looks decent, has some older textures in it, but overall I dig this look, although occasionally the game screen freezes for a short time on the highest graphics. Soundtrack is also pretty nice, controls are pretty easy and works really well on controller. The campaign is surprisingly interesting and mixes well it's mission. Difficulty is another question: on occasions the game is fair, but in later missions the player has to find shortcuts and get better at driving, since the AI is on point with it's inputs. Not impossible to beat, but it can make player sweat. However, this game's strongest point is the multiplayer: if you can get others with you and you have most tracks and cars to play with, you can have some fun and good racing with the game, and I didn't even mentioned the still alive modding community in World Racing 2, in which you can add tracks and cars to the game. It's crazy to see that this game after this many years has a strong community behind it.

However World Racing 2 is not without flaws. Even though the physics is decent enough in the game it still has that "old game jankiness" in it, which the player has to get used to it. The game don't have a story, so you are only resorted to the constant racing, which usually would make me bored of the game but I enjoyed, but I'm sure there are others who would find this bland.

But probably which was a bit annoying to me, is the exploitable mission. There is one mission called 'No Escape', where the AI is not really strong and you get a pretty handy rally car. In this event you can keep playing the second part of the mission until you get a specific amount of drift points, you are under the damage limit and you are in first with more than a tenth. However, if you would start lap the AI, this head start gets buggy and the AI won't start for minutes. At one point I lapped the cars by 2 laps and I got completely stuck, they didn't budged for 4 hours. I had to restart the whole mission and with that somehow I got 100% completion in the game and I was able to play the last mission, when I still had a lot to go. I don't know how this happened, but it was weird and completely broke the progression, even though I was able to finish the game sooner.

This last example is an extreme one to mention, but even though I do think this game can be fun in single player, but if you need a game for a friend group and you like racing, give a try with World Racing in Remote Play Together. I can definitely recommend it to buy, but get it around 6€.

World Racing 2 is a very fun racing game to pass the time. Driving physics are good enough. It's sort of a simcade leaning towards arcade. The tracks are very unique and fun drive through just to free roam. Good list of cars and workshop support. Deformation physics are also nice. Overall a good game for the price.
