Good 'ol fashion breakout fun with an RPG fantasy coat of paint. Each level is challenging and atmospheric, yet not frustrating. It's a great way to kill time if you're short-on-time for gaming but still want to play something fun.

Tribute's first game and it shows. Has great art and a neat combination of a light RPG and a brickbreaker, but the physics are unreliable, the magic system is frustrating, levels are way too long, but penalize you for saving out early and the music loops are way too small and grate on you. It's OK on a deep sale, but that's about it.
I think this is the first game I bought on Steam, for some reason. It's serviceable, nothing great nothing awful.
I adore Happy Console Gamer’s YouTube channel, and recently he mentioned Wizorb as a game he’s had for years, never really talked about, but that he privately plays A LOT as sort of a time filler. So at $3, I had to buy and try it. :) As expected of Johnny’s recommendations: He’s spot on! Simple retro game graphics (not typically my thing, but I admit these are charming!). Takes something like Brick Breaker and adds a few very light RPG elements to the mix to make things more interesting (like spells!).
I’ve only played for an hour, but was having a lot of fun. It’s challenging though! If you’re easily frustrated by having to start a series of levels over from scratch, beware! But I am choosing to use this as sort of a time killer in between deciding which other games to play. From what I’ve seen so far, the price is incredibly fair for the content. Looks like loads to see and do!
Oh, and it works perfectly on a handheld device! I’m on a Lenovo Legion Go with Steam OS, so I’m positive it will also work great on Deck (which I also own).

Tribute Games pulls through when it comes to making retro styles with a convincing level of authenticity but modern concessions for fun. It might be a little [i]too[/i] old-school in some ways described below; I recommend with caveats.
Challenge level: Evaluations of the difficulty level are all over the place. There are at least two reasons for this: One is that the settings seem tuned to be arcade difficulty on digital controls (such as an arcade stick, D-pad, or arrow keys). This is not retuned in any way with mouse controls that let you whip the paddle around as quickly and precisely as you need to handle anything the game throws at you. The other is that your first run, where you are probably under the impression that the stakes are just completion, you will have an experience that [i]is[/i] slow-paced and boring. I suggest Hard difficulty (all it really seems to do is speed up the ball), mouse controls on paddle speed 3 (so any miss is all on you—you may need to unplug your controller), and coming in with a score-attack mindset. Still, the first time around, you will lack the Amulet that lets you “bomb” STG-style once per level, which is clearly an important tool for perfection / speedrunning.
Pacing issues: I estimate basic completion is about 4-6 hours, but it really depends on how good you are and what you want to accomplish here. On the plus side, this is built into the RPG conceit, where you have 3 different endings that are in keeping with your conduct. Back to the cautions, though, each map is pretty darn long, maybe 20-30 minutes; this is not ideal for an arcade game with save points (where you lose your score if you peace out in the middle); at 5 maps, 4 secret routes, it's multiple times the length of a typical arcade game clear even if you only go through once, going way past what the core gameplay would have sustained in its original environment. There are lots of unbreakable bricks that you have only limited tools to get around, even with magic (which I wish were more empowering here).
Musical issues: Soundtrack might be okay in a much shorter game, but here it grates because it’s too repetitive; you hear the same short track over and over throughout a map. Many of the tracks lacks timbral/textural variety (very important with chiptunes, as pure waves—which are not mandatory even on chips—are harsher to the ear and less interesting, causing listening fatigue faster; old games were often played on analog speakers that softened it up a bit); many are a little weak in one of the basic building blocks (melody, harmony, counterpoint, etc.). I don’t want to call it incompetent, so much as less than fit for purpose.
All in all, it’s a longer haul than you expect.

This game didn't work didn't work with my PS4 controller. That's bad. Playing with the keyboard is unpleasant and not fun. There's probably some way to make it work with my PS4 controller but the game isn't fun enough for me to care to figure out how to do so. I do care enough give it a bad review though :)
Un Arkanoid lleno de magia potagia.
Es que básicamente es eso, ir rompiendo bloques con la barra y la bola pero con el añadido de que la temática es de fantasía medieval y puedes utilizar hechizos para ayudarte. Todo con gráficos pixel art y paleta de colores que molan mucho al igual que la música acorde a este estilo.
Tiene un componente de "rol" tanto en sus misiones como en la mecánica de ir ganando oro para comprar en la tienda objetos que te dan habilidades (barra más larga, varias bolas, más potencia, efecto "pegamento", etc.) El oro también sirve para ayudar a reconstruir una aldea a sus habitantes, que es una de las diferentes quests secundarias que hay.
Hay un mapamundi por el que iremos viajando por diferentes zonas, bosque, mazmorras... hasta llegar al castillo. Al final de cada una de ellas hay un jefe final. Entre medias también hay fases de bonus "secretas" (algunas puertas solo se pueden abrir si tienes llaves)
Me ha gustado mucho el juego, lo recomiendo.

Brick breaker with nice presentation and 16-bit visuals. A bit of exploration, dialogs and RPG elements. Use spells like fireball or wind gust to destroy blocks. Stage is complete when all destructible blocks are gone. Music and sounds are crunchy and have this 16-bit feeling. Overall not bad brick breaker game.
PS: Make sure to add "-windowed" to launch options if game doesn't work.

"Trash. Avoid," says the handwritten entry on Wizorb in my gaming journal, and that's the kindest way I can describe it without reaching for obscenities. (Why do I keep a handwritten gaming journal? Well, why don't you?)
Sure, the graphics are cute — who wouldn't be endeared with the blue wolf fursonas and stacks of demented one-eyed slimes — but the game is offensively tepid, with so little challenge and variety that you can see your time a-wasting every moment you spend staring at the ball as it bounces off the platform... sorry, the (enlargeable) magic wand on a quest to save four kidnapped children. Any allusions to V. Nabokov's [i]The Enchanter[/i] are strictly in your head.
Think you'd start on Hard just to up the ante? Think again — every level vomits extra lives at a neurotic pace. If Wizorb has a game over screen, it's reserved only for the most dedicated of the upper limb amputees and quadriplegics. The ball is slow even when maxed out, the power-ups are non-existent, and the only joy you'll experience is when the game drip-feeds you a mana potion so that you could shoot another two bricks with fireballs before going back to the grind. And guess what — not all levels even have a mana potion. Sometimes, it's just you, the droning, sleep-inducing soundtrack that mistakenly passes for music, and the click-click of the bounces, echoing ad nauseum, for 5 worlds, 12 levels and a sterile boss each, until you've paid your penance and hit the cathartic ALT + F4.
Wizorb is not the worst breakout I've ever played — that honour goes to EGA Walls, a scanty DOS arkanoid from 1989, but you'd think that the 20 years of game design would somehow reflect on the genre. Right now, with just two button presses, I can launch Tronic by Webfoot in DOSBox, go through its 50 levels in one session, enjoy them from start to finish, and have infinitely more fun than at any point of playing Wizorb. No magic to be found in this one.
Very creative brick breaker game and really fun to play. It has it flaws but its worth playing for the price. Short and sweet. Took me about 4 hours to beat.

i really wanted to like this game. i really do. but between the high amount of levels needed to progress to the next world, measly starting lives and continues, its just a pain to carry on playing. i kept on playing solely for the 2d pixel art charm, but even that is not enough. and why for the love of god, does the game not let me keep the gold i've obtained halfway through the level? i just want to repair the shop in the village and see what good it does to me? perhaps an extra starting life? like i said, i really want to like this game, but i feel so damn frustrated thinking about it.
You are a wizard, but in the very first few levels game won't give you any magic. Way too many things to break: levels takes forever to finish. Very few lives and you lose everything, needing to redo all over again.
I never thought about self harm before playing this game. Now, it's all I think about.
Reviewers saying going for 100% achievements is "a satisfying journey" are either completely disconnected from reality or all out masochists.
The entire game is extremely tedious. I am NOT being hyperbolic. I literally zone out and start thinking about random ♥♥♥♥ while watching the ball bounce back and forth endlessly on the screen as it proceeds to hit absolutely nothing.
I wait and wait and wait for it to finally break the bounce pattern, return to my paddle, and pray to Gaia that it will hit the one block that's in the worst possible spot (and if you're out of magic you're SOL, just have to wait for slow regen to finally force the issue).
There are 5 worlds. 13 Levels per world. That's 65 levels of mind numbing tedium. If you want to 100% the game, you gotta play those soul crushingly boring levels an INSANE number of times. The music is so SLOW it makes you want to pass out. It's like 10 BPM.
If you love life, if you value living and all it has to offer, then don't play this game.
It has changed me. I look at razors differently now. Thinking about them puts me at ease. Don't be like me.

Great Pixel graphics, good soundtrack, RPG elements are a nice twist. Great price to scratch that nostalgic itch. A bit challenging but nothing too hard. actually quite fun.
Not without flaws, but Wizorb is a fun time if you manage your expectations. It's NOT an RPG although there is a neutral town where you can give NPCs money to fix up buildings providing some benefits to you. Personally I'm a big fan of the visual style and music, though they might not be for everyone.
Challenging as hell, and the ball gets going pretty fast which can make the screen feel a little claustrophobic. For the price, there's a lot of fun here.
El juego de primeras se ve divertido porque parece que es como una especie de aventura donde para proseguir tienes que jugar al clásico de los "marcianitos". Pero nada que ver, todo se basa en que tu entras a un nivel y tienes que pasarte 12 pantallas seguidas con 3 vidas y si pierdes a empezar de nuevo. Se supone que tienes que reconstruir el pueblo con lo que obtienes de los niveles pero solo te sirve para darte bonificaciones para los propios niveles osea que no es demasiado divertido.

И вот именно в мане кроется проблема. Будь у неё самовосстановление или существовал бы какой-то КД на скиллы, всё заиграло бы другими красками. Любителям арканоидов - мимо.
I'd recommend it for €1.50 if you want an easy breakout clone with some minimal stuff from RPG games. Game would be better with more and better execution of RPG elements. The wind magic ability was pretty useless too. But enjoyment was found here.
this is a clone of breakout, a game that's been boring since the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 80's. however this may progress, it starts in such uninteresting fashion that I can't be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to find out more. this boasts "over 60 levels", but the first 8 are the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ level. so who cares
The only 2012 game I know that you need to change your monitor resolution to 1280x1024 to be able to run.
Also, the game actually can be played with a mouse, you only need to unplug the joystick from the USB.
I love the pixel artstyle, the elder character, the concept of the gameplay, but the technical problems I mentioned cancel everything else.
A "Brick-Breaker" style of game with an added Rogue-like RPG element to it, alongside some spellcasting.
It's a quick game, about 3 hours it takes to fully beat it, but it's one of the best games I've played, and the story of the game is beautiful.
Do you love seeing your ball bounce around endlessly while you wait for it to actually hit something that's breakable?
Rhetorical question because if you said yes then watching paint dry does it for you as well so I wouldn't recommend the game either way.

I was not expecting to like this game as much as I did, but it was a very nice surprise. I bought it as a Tribute Games' fan that wanted to try their whole repertoire and soon found myself addicted to this game. While simple, the game is ingenious in the way it works around the usual shortcomings of the brick breaker/breakout/arkanoid subgenre. You have 2 "magic abilities" with 2 variations (one being normal and the other being precision based upon pressing a button at the moment of contact) for a total of 4 skills: a straight fireball, engulfing the ball in flames so it goes through multiple bricks, a wind gust to change the balls' trajectory and a specific power that allows you to control the trajectory manually for a few seconds. I never played anything but the hardcore difficulty so I can't speak for the normal difficulty balance, but I thought it was pretty well balanced given the abilities you have up until late game. There are online leaderboards but I honestly don't understand the scores presented at the top, they feel like they were done by cheating. I would appreciate the option to pick every stage individually instead of having to repeat the whole stage/world in order to get to where I want. Bosses were a nice inclusion. Achievements are all pretty interesting other than the grind one (get 50k gold which is just a time sink, could be improved by having a gold multiplier for not dying instead of the "IMMORTAL" bonus, would make it far less tedious and still encourage skill play). There is an unlockable "SUPER ATTACK" that you can use once in every stage and the process of unlocking it was fun, it is very useful tro make grinding much easier later as it can really cut the time you need to spend on a stage AND reset the ball/throw once used.
All in all, I can clearly see this was a game made with a defined scope to jump into the XNA boom of early XBLA days. It is my favorite Arkanoid game on steam, right beside Strikey Sisters (which I also recommend). Would love competitive play to be more incentivized, but the game pretty much nails everything it set out to do. Highly recommended, just don't expect more than what it is.
Usualy, I hate this kind of game but Wizorb managed to hook me until its end.
Probably because, unlike the other games in this genre, here I CAN send the ball (almost) where I want and the magic is really helpful.
I see only two small flaws :
- the music quickly gets annoying
- the final boss is way too difficult; I lost 15 lives against it when the other bosses took at most 3 lives
Wizorb is a good imitator of Arkanoid. There are a handful of spells, such as an upward fireball attack, the ability to manually place the ball on the field, and a gust of wind that can shift movement left or right, to name a few. As helpful as these are, you only have a limited amount of energy and can’t always fall back on using them
A game with some old school fun and difficulty! Very much an easy to learn, hard to master type game, especially in regards to going for some of the achievements. I tended to find there was nothing that really needed grinding coins for (outside of a specific achievement item) and all power ups could be saved and preserved with careful play. A fun romp!

Wizorb could have been good, but there's nothing really rewarding in this game. A few upgrades that aren't really good and frustrating levels where blocks can't be broken just made me give up. I don't recommend this game.

Даже первое достижение по победе оборотня досталось сущим мучением. Стоит сказать, что в каждой местности нужно пройти до босса 12 однотипных уровней по выбиванию блоков. Иногда попадаются уровни с настолько милипусенькими блоками, что хоть кидай пульты об стену, но не поможет. Шарик летит дюже медленно и порой с непредсказумой траекторией. Дальше шарик начинает постепенно ускоряться и отбивается от врагов в любую случайную сторону.
В общем, даже вводного босса хватило, чтобы отправить игру куда подальше. Также нужно оказывается копить монетки, чтобы помогать сельским жителям. А дают эти монетки по одной штуке за блок и их ещё поймать нужно. Иногда монетки вообще не выпадают. Также здесь есть какая-то примитивная магия, для которой нужна мана. Это стрельба и ветром помогать менять направление шарика. Если стрельба ещё помогает, то вот ветер порой только вредит. До сих пор непонятно, как задавать направление этого ветра.
Ну и для понимания игрового процесса не помешало бы добавить русский перевод, а то порой даже непонятно было в плане механик и первая попытка просто ушла в никуда. Была мысль, что уровень сохраняется при выходе в хаб. Но там всё сбросилось к первому.
В общем, туфтовая игра. Есть вариации арканоида явно получше. И не такие вусмерть пиксельные. Какой-то дед тут ещё алколоидный с красным большим носом.

It's not. Well, it starts fine but it quickly becomes SUPER tedious to play and every level feels annoying to beat.

I love this game! It's worth a replay every once and again. I'd give it a 8/10. There are some aspects that can be frustrating.
I remember playing this a fair bit a while back and liking it. I enjoy these Breakout-style games, after all, and adding new elements to spice it up is a great way to expand on the idea. But it had been a good while since I started it up, and I decided to give it more attention.
And then I realized why I had taken such a long break. The game is tedious. While the game does give you some tools to help clear levels and break tricky blocks, after a while, they become fairly useless as the levels are simply packed with unbreakable blocks and enemies that can sometimes end up stuck in places where you can't hit them. In the end, it's just frustrating to wait for the all to line up just right to snake its way into a narrow passage, hit one block, then bounce back out and leave you fumbling with it to try and repeat the move a dozen or more times. And that's just one part of the screen, so prepare to do that for the next ten minutes.
If your fireball spell could actually pass through unbreakable blocks or hurt enemies that block attacks from certain angles, it might not be so bad. Unfortunately, it becomes completely useless most of the time. Another spell redirects the ball, but that's also pretty impotent as well. It doesn't give a big nudge to the ball's direction, so it's mostly just to help a "close enough" shot line up, and the issue of having so many tunnels and chambers where the ball just bounces right back out after one block breaks means that you aren't gonna get a lot out of that spell. It feels like these spells would have worked better with unlimited uses and a cooldown timer instead of a mana pool that runs dry after only a handful of uses.
It's a shame. This game has a great sense of style, great music, and a great concept, but it fumbles in making the gameplay more enjoyable than the games it draws inspiration from. At $3, it seems like it couldn't possibly be that bad, but for how boring it is, it still feels like you could use that money in a better way.
I didn't think a brick breaker game with simple RPG elements would work but it did. It's not perfect, as other people have said but I got it on sale and enjoyed the time I spent playing it. The boss fights were fun.

Wizorb is an Arkanoid-style arcade game with some fun twists.
Besides the classic ball-and-paddle action, there are some spells you can cast to alter the gameplay.
The graphics are simple but very good looking 16 bit style.
The music is catchy but the instruments can be a bit grating at times. Reminds me of some Game Boy Color music.
Sadly some level design is problematic, the ball can loop around for a full minute and more.
A fast forward button or baseline magic regeneration could mitigate this.
The skeleton enemies in the final world also tend to get stuck in corner sometimes, making them invincible for a time.
The final boss is incredibly easy to beat if you stock up on mana.
Otherwise, it's a quite boring and long uphill battle if you start the fight without mana.
All in all, this was a fun game, with some smears, but it doesn't overstay its welcome (I finished the game in about 4 hours).
Given the very cheap price, this could be an excellent time killer to play on the Steam Deck.

Cons: This game is H A R D. So difficult that it's offputting. If you lose and you can't continue, you lose all your progression, i assume. I say assume as I never made it past the the first world.
Breakout but as a wizard who can cast spells sounds cool, and it's wasted on this game. The breakout aspect is tedious as the levels are filled with indestructible objects that have to thread the needle to get around. The wizard powers are kind of cool, except that due to the aforementioned indestructible objects several of them are useless, and then you can only cast a handful of spells before you're out and have to wait for mana drops which are sorta rare, so you don't even really get to use your wizard powers.
There's a town that you need to rebuild. Except rebuilding it basically gives you nothing and there's no reason to do it as what you get are easily acquirable by just playing the game regularly. Just wasted potential all around.

If you like Breakout clones, this is an okay way to spend a rainy afternoon. Otherwise, give this a pass. There's a lot of wasted potential and design space.
Relaxing and enjoyable take on an old classic.
It's OK, but waaay overstays its welcome.
1. Every area consists of 12 levels + boss all back to back. You can save and quit, but it's a lot to get through a world. This is also probably to prevent farming money that you use to rebuilt a village and buy upgrades. All upgrades are temporary and mostly not worth it besides extra lives.
2. You get magic to help, but it seems like the devs then worked to nerf your magic at every turn. Levels are filled with indestructible blocks to keep your fireballs from working. Late stage enemies are immune to attacks from the front. Your wind and wing powers are limited, and magic power isn't available enough.
3. Items drop from blocks which is how you get money and mana, but you have to catch them while keeping an eye on the ball. All too often you have to let them fall off screen to save the ball.
4. It becomes a slog in late stages when indestructible blocks keep you out for dozens of bounces, until you finally get behind them and break a block or two before it comes back down. Every so often after not hitting a block for a long chain (too long) you get a bit of mana back.
5. You can speed up your paddle with a button, but it only works on the D-pad of my x-box controller, not the stick.
It's cute, but boring. Good idea, poor execution.
Fixes: Take away the fireball and make almost all blocks destructible. Or, add lots more blocks and mana and let the player go nuts. Forget about keys and dropped items, just give stuff as it appears.
Have individual levels or shorter runs of levels. Maybe challenge levels can be repeated to farm gold, or just have the town rebuild based on milestones.

Not a great deal of level variety. The magic mechanics are almost useless with how hard they are to use effectively. The game has the same problem that many of these games have where the level is designed in such a way that you are left with one or two final blocks that take ages to clear.

A fun simple breakout-like game that is worth its cost if you like these types of games. Be careful of one of the achievements BEFORE you buy anything in the town.

Если к стилю и ретрографике 90-ых отношусь нормально, то вот музыка режет слух - она ужасна, композиции во время игры повторяется и её надоедает слушать, уменьшил громкость музыки до 5 что бы слегка было слышно на фоне. Сама игра затягивающе-скучная, это крайне медленный, ленивый и монотонный арканоид. Уровни проходятся долго, кирпичи выбиваются вяло. Главная фишка любого арканоида - бонусы которых должно быть много и задача которых разбавлять монотонность геймплея и убыстрение выбивания кирпичей на уровне, что бы игра не превращалась в удручающее выбивание нескольких оставшихся блоков - здесь всего этого нет. Вместо этого вам дают два заклинания на левую и правую кнопки мыши, лимит использования которых ограничен маной, которую ещё не так легко восполнить, и остальные пассивные бонусы в магазине за выпадаемые монеты, в который так же ещё надо выцелить мячом и попасть на определённых уровнях. В общем основное время будете только долбить планкой по мячу туда-сюда, крайне скучное занятие в блеклой цветовой гамме.
Отдельно от самого арканоида имеется локация разрушенная деревня в которой можно скудно в одно предложение поговорить с npc и пожертвовать им добытые монеты. Такое себе отдельное от геймплея приключение.
По итогу: крайне плохо реализованный арканоид. Я в первой половине 2000-ысячных играл в более интересные арканоиды, покупал на cd-сборниках от triada, так там и графика красивая была, и бонусы интересные, и от русских разработчиков.

Wizorb is an uninspired brick breaker, Breakout/Arkanoid clone that does almost everything wrong. The level design is horrible since most of the stuff you're supposed to break is placed behind unbreakable objects and on the top of that, there are way too many tiny blocks and your magic powers don't really help in these difficult situations. You have a fireball ability that you can cast at command, a wind ability to slightly manipulate the ball's direction, a magma orb ability that annihilates everything in its way except unbreakable blocks but it's hard to use or get it right, control ability to give the ball a pair of wings and control it for a few seconds, and finally, a teleport ability that you can use before throwing the ball. You have a magic bar that depletes as you use these abilities and thankfully, game is generous enough to give you resources so, it's not a complete nightmare.
Boss fights are fine up until the very last boss. You have to defeat its minions to gather enough mana to cast fireballs on him since it's the only way to inflict some damage and as you can guess, it becomes a tedious task real quick. Story doesn't make any sense either. Apparently you're a wizard who can transform into a wand and fight off enemies using a ball? That's impractical and kind of dumb. I don't even want to mention how bad achievements are. There's one that requires you to grind up to 50k coins and you can't save them unless you complete a world. Considering there are 13 levels in each world and the game's repetitive by nature, you're in for a treat.
If I had to think one positive aspects about Wizorb, it would be the art style. It's beautiful but everything else is literally horrendous. I mean, my expectations were low due to Tribute Games' signature under it but boy oh boy... they never fail to impress. They have the potential to develop great games and they kind of succeeded that with Shredder's Revenge but even that one is not that great. However, I shouldn't be too harsh on them since this is one of their first games. It doesn't change the fact that it's a bad game, though. Seriously, stay away from this game. There are much better brick breakers out there.

Well, who hasn't had the opportunity to play Arkanoid before? Hmm... Perhaps not that exact title, but it wouldn't be surprising if there were other releases based on this same kind of game
Over the years, this formula has received a few upgrades, but the basic premise remains the same: Control the platform below with sideways movements, with the main purpose to destroy all the targets above while doing your best to prevent the ball from dropping off the bottom
It's a simple concept, but as you add more elements to the equation, things can become more complex. Like dealing with moving targets or even facing targets that try to retaliate... Well, I suppose it's to be expected
Wizorb doesn't attempt to reinvent the wheel, but it certainly utilizes its own elements effectively. It offers retro-style visuals and sounds, a simple story mode to keep you more engaged, in-game shops to purchase items, different map themes, and even challenging bosses to defeat. You can also find power-up items along the way that can provide you some vital aid in your quest
Overall, I assume that there's not really much to write about other than that. if you enjoy casual games, I am confident that this will be a great addition to your gaming library
Perfect of the Deck. It felt great for what it was going for. It's not perfect, sometimes you lose because of the design, and not because of your lack of skills, but other than that it's fun, while being cheap.

Super Breakout meets SNES RPG aesthetic (without the RPG mechanics). Very cutesy, at the same time genuinely challenging and charming. It's not enough to get me to play the whole game "just because", but definitely worth the time burn.

retro pixel arknoid but with a cute fantasy story about a mage haha is a neat idea and the gameplay feels fun and smooth
I wanted to stop playing after 15 solid minutes of gameplay, so I opened the menu, hoping to return to the village. It told me that all progress in the world would be lost if I stopped now (level 1-06), so I clicked on cancel, but left-clicking was understood as consent, not accepting what I was hovering over like every other menu in the game, so it quit to the menu and I lost all progress in the game. This is unacceptable UI design.

Wizorb is a simple game to describe. It's a Breakout clone that offers no innovation to the classic formula, what you see is what you get.
That being said, the "no innovation" part is not necessarily a bad thing, especially in this genre. I have tried a couple of "revolutionary" Breakout clones but when the "revolution" is just constant flashes and special effects that make the game indecipherable, maybe that wasn't such a good idea ? Here the action is clear and readable, and the game looks pretty good giving a Playstation 1 vibe.
To complement the classic gameplay, you get 4 spells to affect the ball trajectory that consume magic, which you get from certain blocks. Other blocks can drop money, that you use in shops to get other classic upgrades like triple ball or magnet racket. It all works well and nothing feels out of place.
The game consists of roughly 70 levels, 6 bosses and a town to rebuild as a way to spend your money. A first playthrough will probably take you 3 to 4 hours.
That's a little short and more levels would habe been welcome, but you can always go for harder difficulties, completion, or achievements.
Wizorb is a good little game that doesn't look to improve on a formula that works by adding unnecessary elements and presents well. Add to that the fact that Breakout clones aren't really trendy nowadays, so your options are limited. To the question "Is it a good game ?", the best answer would probably be "It's fine". A fine [b] 6[/b].
It's basically just breakout without much added.
