I dont get the hype around this game, The problem might be me but the isometric geometry feels awkward to me, and combat ends up being mostly basic attacks while the fun spells sit on cooldown. Shops, upgrades, and progression all feel underwhelming, with nothinfg that really changes how you play. Huge potential, but wasted on dull design choices.

This game is fun at first when you are figuring it out, but after that the game has nothing to offer you My main gripe about this game is about the main bosses. They seem to have been designed solely to look cool with no consideration on how it feels to fight them. The battles start with the boss stringing together random attacks, then pausing to let the player hit them. This idea works well in many games, but it is implemented incredibly poorly in Wizard of Legend. This is because some sequences of attacks are straight up impossible to dodge. The game clearly intends the player to be able to dodge every attack. You can dodge each of the attacks if they are on their own, and there is an achievement to beat a boss hitless. It does not make sense sense to make undodgeable attacks, but the game did so.

The boss that caused me to write this review was Ice Queen Freiya. If you encounter her as the second boss or later, she gains access to a sweeping beam attack that hits everything in front of her. To dodge it, you must move behind her. This attack works well in isolation, but there was obviously no thought put into how to works with the rest of the fight. There are two separate situations in which this attack becomes undodgeable.

1. Freiya is in a corner
Your spells do knockback, so Freiya often gets knocked into a corner. If she does the beam attack while in the corner, then there is no way to get behind her and dodge the attack.
2. You are too far away
Freiya has several attacks that push away the player. She has two separate AOE that will push you towards the edge of the arena, and if she uses the beam attack after those, there is not enough time to get behind her.
The rest of the game seems to be designed to let you dodge everything if you are good enough, so it simply seems like an oversight to make this attack undodgeable.

While I believe that Frost Queen Freiya is the worst boss, the other bosses also have oversights. Flame Empress Zeal has a meteor attack that covers the entire arena. The problem is that the graphics of the meteors obscure your screen, making it extremely difficult to tell where you are, and if a meteor is going to hit you. Earth Lord Atlas and Wind Sovereign Shuu have homing attacks. These attacks take a long time to expire, and I have had them travel completely off the screen and do a 180 to hit me well after the boss was stunned. And all of the bosses have too small of a window of vulnerability. I find that if I hesitate for even a moment when the boss is vulnerable, I will miss the window and deal almost no damage to them. I believe that the player should be rewarded for surviving the boss attacks instead of constantly missing the window.

Overall, the game falls short on the bosses. They should be the main feature of any roguelike, but they are not enjoyable here. The only boss that I had fun fighting was Master Sura. The rest feel bad to fight against. I do not recommend this game with its bosses in their current form. I do not think I would enjoy those bosses unless the attacks are completely redesigned to not allow them to be unavoidable.

The only reason I can think of for everyone glazing this game is that they haven't played anything better. My first issue was that the geometry can be difficult to interpret, a wall can look like a floor etc. To be fair that's probably something you'd get used to, but I've never played a top down/isometric game where I've had this issue, even ones with similar graphic fidelity. The game looks fine other than that though.

I think probably the worst aspect of this game is the cooldowns. Some of the spells are fun to use, and the trailers make it look like you'll be slinging a bunch of different spells constantly but the reality is that you'll spend 90% of the game mashing basic attack because all your fun spells are on cooldown. So the basic moment to moment combat is pretty much Bioware level waiting for stuff to come off cooldown. Not fun at all.

Also the shops and bonuses are incredibly underwhelming and I found nothing that made any kind of real impact on my playstyle. There were no items or powerups that made me want to go back in for another run thinking I might find something interesting. Plus everything costs too much for when you actually encounter the stores, so you won't be able to afford anything initially, which is fine though because there's nothing worth buying. The progression system also doesn't seem very clear or fun to engage with, though I did experience very little of it, in the end I didn't finish each run feeling like my character had increased in power or progressed in any meaningful way. Like not even a little bit.

Overall there is a lot of potential here but it was squandered with cooldown based combat and a lack of any interesting powerups. Why would you make a game which boasts about all the different spells you can use, that are genuinely fun and interesting, but then design the combat around primarily using basic attack? Massive disapppointment.

The presentation of using combos to get through the dungeon is somewhat misleading, as spamming your abilities works, and combos against bosses in particular usually end up putting you in a bad position more times than not.

Yes, there's many different relics and combinations of items, but most of the spells presented in the game feel underwhelming and unsatisfying to land simply due to either the lack of impact or lackluster damage they present. The items and curses are either hit or miss, either they buff your run a tad bit, or they nerf badly.

Beating the bosses doesn't feel rewarding either, as the "final bosses" of an area feel like a pushover even at the higher stages of the dungeon. Beating them has no weight because they simply teleport and disappear once you beat them.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this game, each run played is either a hit or miss, Every combat encounter ends up with you easily clearing the enemies or getting stunlocked until death. But for it's price it's an okay way to pass the time. The game isn't for everyone, it isn't my taste after some reflection, so I'd still recommend trying it if you desire too. It was an okay game, forgettable, but okay for its price.

Harika bi roguelite , yüzlerce farklı büyü çeşidi var. Kıyafetlere hiç girmeyeceğim onlar zaten karakteri bambaşka oynamanıza olanak sağlıyor.

Bossların bir kere patternini çözdüğünüzde dodgelaması bile aşırı keyif veriyor gerisi tamamen kasılıp kombolarınızı güçlendirmeye kalıyor. Yani boss kesme fantezisinden 50-100-200 hitlik combo oluşturma fantezisine geçiyorsunuz.

Görünüm olarak da gayet güzel bi tarzı var ama bence ayırt edici özelliği moblar veya bosslar ile çarpışırken rahatlıkla büyüleri saldırıları görüp dodgelayabilmeniz. Aynı anda 10 tane büyü atarken bile ne olduğunu ayırt edebiliyorsunuz.

Haritalar gayet iyi bi stage i 5dk ya yakın sürede clearlayabiliyosunuz ki rahat dolanın diye transparan şekilde ve map açıkken hareket edebiliyorsunuz. Haritadaki kart , eşya satan shoplara uğrayıp eşya alabiliyorsunuz dolayısıyla run içinde de karakteri güçlendiriyorsunuz.

WoL2 çıkınca insanlar büyük beklentilerle aldı ama 2.si bu oyunun malesef çeyreği etmez güzel bi roguelite deneyimi yaşamak isterseniz kesinlikle oynayın.

Probably a great game. The grind isn't worth it, especially at early level. There was also no indication that you can't have more than one relic equipped at a time (so I wasted a ton of money thinking I was making a great build) and in some instances, cards have no description (so you go in blind when buying or trading).

There's a version of Wizard of Legend that's 97% positive on steam. That version has more story, more lore, and a bunch of roguelike design staples like dash i-frames, slower and weaker enemy hordes, and tankier but less powerful bosses, correcting most of the complaints you'll see in the negative reviews. But it's also a much worse game.

The goal of Wizard of Legend is to make you feel like a legitimate wizard fighting other legitimate wizards. It's a power fantasy where you start out pretty weak, with four base spells, and can be stunlocked into a curbstomp at any time by any basic enemy if you make a mistake. While frustrating and controversial, that's also what makes the highs and successes feel so good - once you get a build humming, once you understand attack and movement patterns, once you've got the muscle memory and aiming down, you become peak Avatar-state Aang, an unstoppable force of nature.

The depth and build combinations are insane, with literally hundreds of spells. There are a ton of difficulty/challenge mode options, a great Boss Rush mode, and extra powerful "dark spells" unlocked in a slow trickle as you master the game.

Wizard of Legend has a legitimately inspired and unique design ethos, and while that will absolutely not click at all with many people, I had a blast with it and highly recommend giving it a shot.

I might not have a ton of hours in this compared to the other rogue likes I have played, but this numbers in the ranks for best I have ever played. This is a roguelite that does not try to be anything other than roguelite about a legendary wizard. Once the meta-progression starts going, you can easily force wins every run, but that is also kind of the point. It allows you to take meta builds and dominate but it also gives you the tools to make almost anything work. You want to be the op mage, go for it. You want to be the high skill ultra no life perfect time dash shadow mage, do it. Everything is available, but you must place restrictions on yourself to keep it interesting. It also allows for all this play as you want freedom within the same basic systems, there are no ultra hard extra modifiers. The game offers incredibly strong core mechanics and then spells that dance around those mechanics, with gear that shoves stats in a direction (for the most part).

The magic is magical, the card system is great, the item system is great, the gear system is [strike]grindy[/strike] solid, the art is stylized, the animations flow into gameplay, the music is grand and epic but also magically fantasy. It all just works... except the multiplayer. I even found the story to be interesting and a really fun addition as a way to frame the game, but it is by no means a story game.

This is one of those slept on gems I tell my friends to go play. This is also on my list of games I would love to get all the achievements in, but probably will not.

Excellent game, high difficulty, really nervous, lots of combo of arcana available, with a very fluid system that allow any arcana to be upgraded in an unique way and all standart arcana to be also wielded as Signature arcana (unlike the sequel....)
There's also a lot of starting reliques and arcana to unlock, different outfit for different playstyle, cursed relics, Combo/assembling relics, and overall a lot to do during the trials themself .

Its good, but it definitely feels like the game is more about maintaining control than anything else.
There's big flashy spells, there's cursed artifacts that double your damage, but it all means nothing if a group of enemies get you stun locked in back to back hits - its even worse when you're on a small platform and you keep getting pushed off and infinitely stun-locked.
The easiest control spells were the summon spells. Get two of those in your hand and you can just cast them before entering a room to make sure the enemies are never ganging up on you. The spell that gives you enhanced attack speed is also fairly useful, and the whirlwind to sweep enemies together into a group where you can set up combos or just throw them down a pit makes short work of the game.

Once you can reliably dominate the random encounters, the game is quickly beaten. Bosses are a little too predictable, and I don't think I've ever died to a boss. Died to mobs tons of times. Bosses are weak.

I have been playing this game on and off for years. Since when it originally launched to the final update. Finally got all the achievements and I can definitely say I recommend this game. It's a fun rougelike you can hop into every once and a while to try a new run. There isn't really a storyline to follow outside of become a Wizard of Legend and try to get home. Gameplay is the big thing that matters. There are five different dungeons type to roam around with an elemental boss at the end. Rooms are randomized so you might have one that tricks you up a bit (that one fire room with the flames in the middle gets me) and there are a few enemy varieties to keep you on your toes. Spells are quick and snappy so spell chaining is a lot of fun. Add to all the relics and cursed relics to the mix and you have a lot of build variety in the game.

I can highly recommend this game if you are a fan of roguelikes. The local co-op is a fun time to if someone is physically there or connecting to your computer.

The movement in this game feels perplexingly poorly designed, but maybe I'm just trash.

When you continually move for a short uninterrupted period, your character starts to run. This is fine for backtracking or exploring a level, but it's so detrimental for more advanced traversal or combat. When you have to dash over a gap, you'll walk towards the gap and press spacebar on the precipice of the gap. If, however, your character starts running, you might just walk off as it completely messes with your timing.
In combat, it's also super annoying, as the run animation has a truly disgusting number of lag frames if you stop moving (skidding to a halt). So far as I am aware, you cannot do anything during these frames. This is obviously problematic for combat, but it makes general movement feel awful too.

The game has a dash (as mentioned previously), which is fine some of the time and absolutely worthless ~25%-33% of the time. Similar to the shade cloak in Hollow Knight (if you're familiar), every fourth or so dash (on a cooldown) gets a special attack associated with it. If it just did damage, it would be fine. Instead, it acts as a strong wind attack, meaning it moves enemies. With you. When you dash. So if you decide to try to dash away from an enemy (you know, to dodge their attacks), the enemy just gets pulled along with you! So you don't even dodge the attack!
If it was something that happened on every dash, I'd just have to accept that it's part of the games intended challenge - but I don't think it's supposed to be, which makes it all the more frustrating.

These two issues are preventing me from really being able to enjoy this game, so if you've read this far and are a big fan or otherwise have any advice for me, please comment! I'd like to know if I'm doing it all wrong or if this is just the way it is.

Came back to the game after many years because I'm in the middle of replaying everything I lost interest in/getting achievements, and unfortunately remembered why I lost interest in the game :( Its very pretty, the boss designs are COOL and the execution of the mechanics feel quite nice for the first few hours, however after you get used to the novelty it quickly starts to feel very empty and makes you feel think "...whats the point of dying over and over again"

The main gripe I have (call me a storyenjoyer) is the lack of any starting motivator/plot. The tutorial demonstrates a very nice way to incorporate learning mechanics with some lore to get you invested into progressing further, however it sorta drops off completely from there. The premise of you getting suddenly transported out of a modern day museum by a long inactivated relic because you were 'chosen' to participate in the mystical times-gone-by chaos trials gets absolutely brushed aside, everyone including yourself just goes 'ah yes business as usual'. Theres pretty much no interactivity outside of basic 'NPC' empty chatter, not even any acknowledgement from the bosses that you're here from the future (maybe the final boss does but I don't feel motivated to find out tbh). When you die, there is no new developments and it just feels like you've been purposefully dragged out into the foreign past with little fanfare and then left completely alone without your friends or family with no one caring whether you're there or not. Your character doesn't even care or get freaked out by this (dang couldn't be me) and you kinda think, why not just have the game set IN the time of the wizard trials instead of this isekai business if no one is going to acknowledge it? I dunno, just these little things erode away at the neat situation that has been painted and takes you out of it.

I may also be a victim of skill issue, but theres very little sense of progression either:
- the spells you get feel very similar just with different graphics (at least to my unskilled eye)
- you lose health all too easy without a feeling that you can make a comeback
- it almost punishes you for exploring beyond the bare minimum/trying to go fast in typical roguelike fashion (because again, theres almost no feeling of progression in dying)
- hooooh boy some of the group spam attacks where you get infinitely stunlocked (freeze spirit is the only thing that saved me my beloved) and lose 80% of your health esp in bosses (maybe I got a tough hand with experiencing the lightning twins first on my revisit) where its just whole screen flashing and you have no idea whats happening and then you're back in the lobby without any clue how to counter it
- I think to myself, "maybe I just need to grind for currency to buy a better relic in the starting area!", but it seems you can only bring one in which almost defeats the purpose of grinding for future runs and grinding in a trial often leads to hastening the end of your run.

In saying this, I'm sure the game is just victim to a steep learning curve which is totally fine! However the combination of the two above makes it really challenging to maintain interest to invest time into getting past the skill hurdle to where I'm sure it may fix the above criticisms. Its a really interesting concept and fun for a few hours, but beyond that, isn't really my thing I suppose! Passing on my hope to everyone who enjoyed the game that the second game improves upon the first!

i remember playing the demo for this game years ago. The demo consists of a museum-like level where you're shown the basics of the game, it was full of dialogues and lore. The level itself was nice as well. So when this game came out i was expecting something with a rich story, like most games have, and with thought out worlds and maps. The roguelike-randomly-generated levels aren't bad per se, but it gets old pretty fast, not to mention they don't really have a purpose, or make any sense. So yeah, 99% of the game is just you collecting new spells, managing health, defeating enemies and bosses, dying, starting over, buying an upgrade, and so on.

No dialogues.
No memorable characters.
No story.
No memorable environment, just purposeless rooms with enemies inside.
NOTHING.

this is why this game failed me. There is no reason to play this game, you're better off playing hades or any other roguelike. Just look at the binding of isaac: it's not like that game has that much of a story or character, yet it interacts way more with the player, every item and location sticks with you.

The game is still getting updates today, but let me tell you, nobody cares if you add more trinkets or more spells. The game is missing core game aspects. This game needs purpose.

side note: the boss battles are well designed, at least.

People look at me funny when I say it but this is the best roguelike I have ever played.
I know you have 200 hours in Hades but I like my successes more skill based than time based.

11/10 but I have yet to beat the secret boss phase so I may be a complete and utter fraud.

Anyway uhhh I don't have anything much to say it's a good game go get it if you're looking for some Avatar-ish (the anime one, not the blue peep one), spell-slinging beat-em-up kind of game. If you doubt me (you should, there's no reason to believe everything a stranger says on the internet), look up A Raccoon (@ARaccoon) on YouTube for some good game clips.

But I digress. There's a lot of spells to test out, many (fun) combos to try, yada yada. Gets a bit grindy at the beginning (as do all roguelikes) but when you have many spells unlocked, the replayability is endless.

Also I totally did not forget to review this game years ago back when I first played it and got addicted to it.

Не понимаю, откуда 90% положительных отзывов... У врагов нет никакой очереди атаки, каждый сам по себе, из-за чего 5-10 врагов на экране на вас одновременно все накидуются, разбирайтесь с этой толпой как хотите.

Станлоки от врагов - это вообще что? Ситуации, когда вас закрывают в комнатке 1x1 метр с двадцатью слизнями - здесь норма; поймаете тычку - попадёте в станлок, смотрите мультик как вас несколько секунд пинают, остаётесь без 60% здоровья (а прожать рывок в процессе вы не могли, потому что станлок). Враги ближнего боя тупо прут на игрока в лоб, а когда подойдут достаточно близко - с минимальной задержкой бьют, никакого намёка на интеллект/тактику/разнообразие ситуаций.

Рывок не даёт неуязвимости (хотя, есть предметы, что дают рывку неуязвимость), что в совокупности с прямолинейными атаками у боссов и врагов задаёт мету - бегать по кругу, прожимать кнопочки, по мере их отката.

Почти все ваши заклинания могут перебить, а само заклинание уйдёт на полный откат. Слили так ульту - "ну, не повезло". Хотя, есть предмет, который не даёт прервать заклинания...

Отзыв пожалуй, оставлю негативным. Хотя есть предмет, который это исправляет [spoiler](Нормальная игра, называется)[/spoiler]. Закрывать базовые предметы для качества жизи за предметами - ну это же просто неприятно!

Не, я понимаю, что у такой боёвки есь свои ценители (по наблюдению, обычно дотеры, где механики кайта крипов похожи), но мне такая боёвка несла только раздражение, отвращение и просто оставила неприятные ощущения.

Перед этой игрой, я проходил Spelunky, что сам по себе сложнее, проходится на 100% гораздо дольше, и челленджа наваливает побольше. И в Spelunky я мог играть по 8ч/день спокойно, где каждый забег я начинал, в надежде отыграться, и пройти игру наконец. В Wizard of Legend я еле еле наигрывал часа по 3 за полностью свободный день, я после забега только и хотел, чтобы это просто кончилось... Впечатления после такими же и остались: Spelunky я всем советую, а Wizard of Legend - только если написанное выше вас не останавливает.

Лучше поиграйте в Curse of the Dead gods, Enter the Gungeon, Nuclear Throne или что-нибудь совсем другое, но не в это...

I've enjoyed this game for quite a while. I can always re-download it and play it back easily, just like muscle memory. I haven't played part II and I will say, I most likely never will because it's just not like this. This one just slaps.

Customization and synergy is a big deal- so take your time and find out what you like.

Niestety nie mogę polecić tej gry.
Wiele gier traktuje od początku gracza jakby już
miał za sobą kilkanascie godzin rozgrywki.
Sterowanie za pomocą myszki czy pada jest trudne na początku.
Mając aż 6 zaklęć do dyspozycji wydawałoby się, że walka to formalnosć.

Nic podobnego

Zamykają cię w klatce i nawalają wrogów do srodka.
Jeszcze do tego zaklecia mają odnowienie.
Więc jedyna taktyka to ciągłe uciekanie aż naładują się zaklęcia.
Mechanika leży.
Poziomy ładne ale podobne i z czasem brak jakiejkolwiek nowosci.
Główna linia zabawy czyli eliminacja wrogów jest frustrująca
ze względu na multum zaklęć które ciężko używać.

Porada dla wielu twórców gier jest następująca.
Wprowadzajcie gracza do swojego uniwersum stopniowo.
Najczęsciej jest jednak tak, że na początku jest bardzo trudno
i gra frustruje zanim się grę polubi.
Tutaj zabrakło wczesnych poziomów na dużych mapach z 1-2 wrogami.
Ta gra to szybka nawalanka z mechanikami bazującymi na
ograniczaniu ci ruchów połączeniu z chaosem na ekranie.

Absolutely loved it, super fun combo crafting, intense/fun bosses, fun game loop, cool builds with the relics. Just get this game and completely ignore WoL 2.
It's much closer to a pure roguelike than most bc despite unlocking new spells and relics there is a hard cap on how many you choose to start with per run, though you still unlock other benefits like outfits and different but usually better spells
Oh yea it's one of 4 games I've completed all the achievements for on steam.

The combat is fun, lots of magic mixes you can use. Plays great with a controller. But the grind is abhorrent. Even on successful runs you might get a menial amount of crystals.

Such a pleasant surprise as I expected another Hades clone but this is far more a classic dungeon crawler with a light dusting of rogue-like.

It is incredibly addictive with a fantastic reward loop unlocking new spells and mixing up your loadout.

Especially addicting when binging Black clover at the same time!

The game design is perhaps a bit too simplistic. There is a lack of permanent progression and while randomization is core to rogue like the shops in the trials cannot be refreshed and is accessible once per floor, so there is hardly any chance you can build into something interesting.

This is one of the best roguelikes I have ever played. Be a wizard. Also I think this is one probably better blind ran. There is an exploit however, where if you quit to the menu the shop will refresh, IDK why you would, but it could be useful.

I really love this game, if any of my friends ask my opinion about it they'll only hear me singing praises about its game design. Everything about it from the music, to the combat, to even the actual layout of the levels is. FREAKING. AWESOME.

It has so much replayability if I wasn't a lazy bum my hours would be in the triple digits long ago.

Edit: I am proud to say that I have finished everything that the game has to offer. Not just 100%ing on steam, no. This is one of the only games in which I decided to be a completionist, not stopping at collecting all spells, relics and robes, but completing both the trials and the "speedrun" mode, beating Sura's third phase, and getting to see the insignia of legend's cosmetic.

I've beaten it so thoroughly that the game no longer has a checklist of stuff to do, it has become akin to a sandbox now, and so my runs from now on will definitely involve experimenting with spell combos and trying to find the greatest dopamine farms (tracer barrage my beloved) and synergies.
