Calling this a horror hunting simulator is pretty accurate. You’re not sprinting from setpiece to setpiece of you’re tracking, listening, watching, and waiting, and that pacing actually fits the mood really well when it clicks.

Saving costs mana, which is both a blessing and a curse. It forces you to think carefully about when to lock in your progress, and that constant “do I save now or push farther?” tension keeps you on your toes.

The main enemies, the wolf, the tree, and the witch are genuinely unsettling. Planning traps and trying to outsmart them adds a nice cat‑and‑mouse layer to the game.

Most of the basic enemies are only slightly scary and very cheap. Spiders are the worst offenders—they rush you, bite fast, and can kill you before you really have a chance to react. Once they’re on you, it’s hard to escape, and that gets old quickly.

Outside of the big threats, there really isn’t much variety. After a while, you’ve seen everything the game can throw at you, and it leans on the same few enemy types over and over.

There isn’t a lot of guidance, so you’ll spend a lot of time wandering around unsure if you’re doing what the game actually wants. That can be good for atmosphere, but also frustrating when you just want some sense of direction.

I’ll go easy on it because I got it for free, but even then, Witch Hunt is definitely a slow burn. It demands patience and tolerance for repetition, but once you get the hang of it, there *is* some fun to be had. It’s flawed, no question, yet if you’re into methodical horror and don’t mind rough edges, it can scratch a very specific itch.

Just finished the game, it's nothing super spectacular or anything, but for what you get? It's actually very impressive! I'm currently invested in obtaining all achievements in the game, I suffered through the first ten hours to get Atheist, I'm hoping the Crucifix and Watcher Totem will make my life a little easier as I aim for the more difficult goals, avoiding the whisperers like the plague, and trying not to die throughout the entire playthrough, so that will be interesting, but a good way to knock out four achievements in one go.
I doubt the dev will work on this game further, though if he ever is interested in making improvements, here are somethings I'd love to see:
1.) Side Quests would be awesome, the closest thing we get to this is the Bounty Hunter license that grant coin for dead monsters, which is cool but I was kinda hoping for something a little more. I don't care if they're generic fetch quests, though investigations would be interesting, throwing in a puzzle or two wouldn't be the worst idea, if done correctly.
2.) Additional POIs would be nice, the map isn't huge but it's pretty big for what we get, though it was reasonably cluttered. It did feel pretty empty, lacking points of interest.
3.) Base Building? Okay, so if the POI idea is not good, we should put a lot of that empty space in the wilderness to use, would have liked to have built a small homestead and defended it against monsters, might have been a fun little nod toward tower defense. ^^
4.) Lockpicking, there's more inaccessible doors inside the town than I care to count, would have been nice to get inside and loot them for useable resources.
5.) Heroics, I mean I feel like my actions against the forces of evil should have perhaps inspired more people to return to the town. I'd like to see that my actions have a positive affect in the world, more than just what we see in the ending.
6.) Dialogue, let's add some options with various characters in the town, information is power and I had questions that were never answered!
This game is a superstar. It's been followed up by Skinwalker Hunt, that I think is okay but lacks the aura and the charm this game has. Seriously, Witch Hunt is an absolute gem.

Witch Hunt is a very good game. You have to know this is hunting game with horror elements.
It is not an easy game at all. you will learn through your mistakes. Very good sound design, the positional audio is on point. Horror elements are strong but the repetitive nature of the game deminishes the horror effect after a while. Going out and hunting over and over again on a smallish semi open map can get boring if you are not into hunting games.
Exploration is almost always rewarded.
All in all a very good hunting game with strong horror elements. Not my cup of tea but I can't see any major flaws here.

Na początku jest klimat i gra trzyma w napięciu, ale szybko to mija po poznaniu mało różniących się od siebie potworów (jest ich około 5–6), słabych lokacji im dalej tym gorzej nudniej i bardziej irytująco.
[spoiler] Przy spotkaniu pierwszej bestii ze skinem lykana potwór nie atakuje gracza, tylko ucieka dopiero wtedy, gdy zostanie zaatakowany. Ucieka nawet przez pół mapy, dzięki czemu szuka się go zbyt długo. [/spoiler]

Здесь каждый босс по-настоящему уникален, а мир динамично меняется после каждой победы над ними, что создает ощущение прогресса. Это не просто «пугалка», а полноценное выживание на огромной, мрачной и очень запоминающейся локации. Тот редкий пример, когда атмосфера страха идеально сочетается с драйвом настоящей охоты.
Однозначно рекомендую всем, кто ценит в хоррорах не только скримеры, но и геймплейную глубину

Graficos retro y sencillos pero con una gran ambientación. Tiene un apartado sonoro que te hace poner los pelos de punta. Y la premisa es sencilla pero cumple.
Recomendado si buscas algo de terror y supervivencia.
for a simple game it just feels good to play, its very challenging and finally beating it feels like beating a dark souls boss. Could a few things be a little better yes but it is still a good game.

I think almost everything about this game is perfect for the first hunt. The atmosphere, sound design, gameplay mechanics, etc. Resources are limited and the game manages to be rather frightening. The creature itself will sneak up on you at very high speeds and all the other ghouls and ghosts will give you a hard time as well.
I think where the game starts to come apart is the second monster you hunt. It has a ton of health, shoots extremely long-ranged projectiles, and you are constantly being chased by another entity the whole time, who will kill you if it touches you. I think it would work pretty well if the target monster itself had less health.
I won't spoil any further, but the remaining hunts have similar problems that fail to capture what the first hunt did. Overall, I very much enjoyed the game and would love to see similar games in the future.

Sobresaliente en su ambientación y sin abusar de los "jump scare", me parece una compra más que recomendable por los 5 euros que me ha costado en la rebajas de invierno. Un juego que ha hecho que vuelva a jugar en PC después de estar siempre con consola. Tiene su mérito

What made this unique from other "hunt the thing!" games to me was the gothic 18th century setting which it nails very effectively. The atmosphere is thick and keeps you on your toes. The map is really interesting to explore and feels rewarding to discover locations, giving a genuine sense of progression.
I see alot of influence from Sleepy Hollow 1999 and The VVitch 2015, which are films I both love, possibly adding to the reason I enjoyed this so much.
Even tho this game is technically inferior to Skinwalker Hunt, the reason I find it soo much more appealing is purely the atmosphere and setting. Perhaps the dev doesn't want to repeat himself by making a sequel which I can understand, however I cannot understate how much potential this game has for a sequel. This is one of the few games I went out of my was to get all the achievements for!

Мрачные леса, заброшенный город, туманы, дожди и зловещее озёро — всё это создаёт картину пугающей и завораживающей красоты.
Чёткого сюжета здесь нет: вы просто оказываетесь в городе Белвилль, окружённом лесом, кишащим чудовищами. В вашем арсенале — различное оружие, навыки и отмычки для вскрытия сундуков. Поиск разбросанных по карте сокровищ — занятие азартное, хотя найти всё без помощи онлайн-карты практически нереально.
Есть и заметные минусы. Графика, даже с учётом стараний разработчиков по эффектам, в 2025 году выглядит устаревшей. Но главный недостаток — это работа со звуком. По идее, звуки должны помогать в ориентации и обнаружении угроз, но на практике это не работает. Лай зомби-собаки может доноситься несколько минут, хотя самой собаки рядом нет, а когда враг уже бежит на вас, зачастую не слышно вообще ничего.
Боссы, к сожалению, не блещут оригинальностью и представляют собой просто «бочки с здоровьем» с парой уникальных атак. Изначальный азарт от исследования карты после нескольких заходов тоже угасает.
Вердикт: Несмотря на все недостатки, Witch Hunt остаётся культовой игрой для ценителей хорроров «старой школы». Это тот случай, когда уникальная атмосфера перевешивает технические несовершенства. Рекомендую как минимум поиграть пару часов, если вы готовы мириться с её архаичностью.

Enteresan bir oyun. Başta sıkıcı ve çok eski tarz kalitesiz bir oyun gibi hissettirse de ilerledikçe o kadar da olmadığını anladığım bir çeşit avcılık, korku, gerilim ve açık dünya oyunu.
Gotik bir teması var ve bütün oyuna hakim. Eski tarz oynanışıyla birinci şahıstan oyunu takip ediyorsunuz. Bir kasabaya Van Helsing misali yaratık avcısı olarak geliyorsunuz ve sizden belirli bir canavarı avlamanız isteniyor (Boss canavar). Oyun açık dünya olduğu gibi oldukça zorlu bir oyun. Herhangi bir düşmanın bir iki vuruşuyla ölebiliyorsunuz. Cephaneniz ve diğer envanteriniz çok çok sınırlı olmakla birlikte doğru yerde kullanmanızı da gerektiriyor. Dolayısıyla nerede ne yapacağınızı önceden iyi planlamalısınız.
Gizemli kasabada ve çevresinde çok çeşitli küçük canavarlarla karşılaşabiliyorsunuz. Bunların şeytan, vampir, zombi, doğal yaratık (örümcek,kurt..) vb. türleri oluyor. Oyunda haritanızı da siz bulmalısınız. Özel küçük yetenekleriniz olan buffları da kasabada başka bir tüccardan ediniyor ve gelişebiliyorsunuz. Büyük avınız gerçekten oldukça güçlü bir boss yaratık oluşturuyor ve haritada sürekli olarak hareket halinde oluyor. Belirli bir mana puanı karşılığında yeteneğinizi elde ederseniz onun bakış açısıyla bir süreliğine onu izleyebiliyorsunuz. Yolda karşınıza şeytan türünde varlıklar çıktığında size radyoaktivite benzeri bir hasar uygulamaya başlıyorlar ve sizden çok daha hızlı hareket edebiliyorlar dolayısıyla onu engelleyecek haç vb. türü eşyaları almadıysanız ve kullanmazsanız kesinlikle ölüyorsunuz.
Haritada yön bulmak için kendi becerilerinizi ve arazi okuma yeteneklerinizi kullanmalısınız çünkü haritada sizin yerinizi göstermediği gibi haritayı da oyun direkt olarak size vermiyor. A small indie developer took a basic concept we all know: hunting
Alright. But. We don’t get assault rifles, bolt actions, none of that. Musket and flintlock. That’s all you get.
There is some hints or clues and stuff you can buy from the shop but this game is cruel.
It is like a silent dagger that hurts. No free bees. No assistance. You. A monster. A rifle. And a forest. A change of pace in horror games that I’m addicted to. Not insanely difficult. Just requires patience. Good timing. And sharp thinking. 9/10
Although super difficult, Witch Hunt has so much going for it, I can overlook the frustrating number of times I've been killed.
This game started out great. It's super moody and immersive as you're exploring the map and getting upgrades/figuring things out. Once you have to start hunting the bosses though, this game becomes a complete slog and ruins all the fun you're having. It's so infuriating and frustrating running around trying to find the bosses that it saps any tension or immersion. And then the bosses are such bullet sponges it will take you hours to kill them and keep finding them over and over after they run away each time you do a little bit of damage. Then the dev had to piss us off even more by removing the only fast travel marker and one of the save stations at the very end.
Just infuriating decision-making that completely ruined what was a good game for me. You will spend hours and about 80% of your playtime just running around the map over and over hoping you can find the boss you're looking for. I got all the way to the very end and said screw it, I'm not wasting my time anymore.

There's something special about tree shadows being cast on the ground by the moonlit sky. I spend hours wandering the night time woods with my musket and am loving every second of it. From the semi-jump-scares to the monster itself, it really does place you in the woods with a heightened sense of danger while keeping the wonder open for exploration and item discovery. Best played in the dark in hours no one else is awake ;) Give it a go!

For the cost, a very well-made game. Great atmosphere, while avoiding every pitfall of lesser titles, (like generic/unavoidable jump-scares).
It felt to me like if S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and a Witcher-theme met somewhere in the 17th century. The developer deserves the recognition, and in my view, should be given the support to develop greater titles along this line/theme.

I really like it. Like other hunting games, you'll be wandering around a lot tracking the monsters. But the atmosphere is good and the game mechanics are solid.
saying cheesy lines like "I can feel evil in the air, The witch is close" while playing, because this game is just that immersive and atmospheric. the world itself isn't large, but its densely packed with secrets, even in the small, seemingly safe town of Bellvile there's plenty of discoveries to be made.
What sets Witch Hunt apart from many of the modern horror games is its lack of hand holding, you're given an objective, thrown into the dark forest, and left to figure everything out on your own.
that being said, this game isn't perfect, animations and NPC models do feel outdated, but rest of the game more than makes up for those flaws.

Steam's refusal to give any option other than "yes" or "no" is maddening and needs to be corrected. Case in point: this game. Anyway...
Long before mankind invented even so much as the humble bow, we were already hunters. How did we prevail over larger, faster beasts without decent ranged weaponry, you ask? Simple, stubborn persistence. We literally just followed gazelles or whatever around until they dropped from sheer exhaustion. Sound like fun? Great, you'll love this one. If not, save yourself the tedium and move along. See, the game bills itself as "challenging," and that you should not "expect a walk in the park." I would argue that you should expect little else, and that the challenge is almost entirely to your patience. That said, there is an undeniable thrill to finally, FINALLY catching up to your target and getting to land a shot on them. Given the very few (and expensive) means you have to actually track your victim, that'll probably happen once every half-hour or so. While this does make this game perhaps the most accurate hunting sim ever made, brief bursts of action followed by long periods of boredom doesn't appeal to everybody. I think had the most fun just wandering around exploring the map, ignoring the hunt entirely.
So, do I recommend it? Kinda. I like that it exists (I love the idea of having to fight monsters with garbage-ass old weapons), and it does a lot right (good sound design, in particular. Use headphones), but when the vast majority of my time is spent on just...nothing, it's hard to justify. You can rescue a dog though, so that's cool.

Given the name of the game is witch hunt it was truly a interesting pick in the bosses. U wouldnt expect the devils kin to be looking like a leviathan from subnautica XD. All these negative reviews where only whining about 2 things. Difficulty and Graphics. To first of wich i can only say skill issue and second of wich stop being so fussy. Games dont need next level graphics to be good. The fact that there was no option to turn down the volume really helped the horror themed athmosphere of the game. The random enemy noises combined with that really kept u on your toes. It also greatly helped the ambience wich was very well executed and always made a little unsettled. It was also great having to learn about secrets and easter eggs all by urself with curiosity. As IGP already said in his playthrough. I wouldve loved to see more of it in the form of potential new levels, maps or bosses.
So all in all theres not really anything to dislike about this unless your a really fussy person. Would definetly recommand.

Very straight forward, very fun indie game.
It's a rare game that has classic indie game charm while also having well thought out mechanics and more than serviceable graphics and performance.
It's hard. But not BS. You are rewarded for playing smart and careful. I bought the game after having most of the mechanics and gameplay spoiled and I still got my butt WHOOPED multiple times. Has plenty of secrets and events you can easily miss. Considering how generally unknown this game is, you're likely to accidentally stumble across details you won't find on a steam or reddit forum. Compared to other $10 indie games, the things to discover is above average, but I couldn't see myself ever replaying this after completing it.
Whether or not you should buy depends on how much you enjoy the concept of being a witch hunter. Again, it's simple, and ~5 hours of no-nonsense entertainment is well worth the 10 buck pricetag.

Almost a master class in atmosphere, brought down by a terribly obnoxious sound. There is some really well done map design, visual story telling and horror elements, but there is a lot of padding making this often feeling like a walking sim with some combat that feels brute forced and cheap & tedious bosses makes this a 'mixed' for me.
The 'heart beat' that plays when enemies are within 500 feet (more like 500 yards?) is intended to produce anxiety, but fails and produces nausea in me instead, game needed to be muted for me with some House Jazz. Shame because the ambiance was so delicious. The distance radius could have been a lot smaller.
I really enjoyed the 1-shot tactical game play and the challenge of reloading under pressure. The witch encounter itself is worth a lot of praise, but the rest of the bosses are just monotonous. The final boss is not worth it and not satisfying to defeat, just plain tedious, cheap and you have to repeat 3 times? Other bosses were just tedious, mostly just running around to find them, shoot them once, and then having to track them down again... many many times. Boss HP is padding, nothing more. Seeing the Tree boss [i]running[/i] down the road, was very unexpected.
Game would be a lot better if it's length was 3-4 hours, but the padding is very obvious. This game would be a great Halloween game for streamers and otherwise highly recommend to anyone needing to scratch their 'gothic horror' itch but probably a pass for some of those looking for a deeper experience.
Campy horror hunting game with a ton of atmosphere and spooks to keep your cheeks tight

105 минут бегал за сраным оборотнем в итоге когда у него хп осталось на 1 выстрел он меня просто загрыз когда я при перезарядке не смог поменять оружие. в итоге откатило на сохранение где у него 60% примерно здоровья из-за того что я ману тратил на поиск этой сраной собаки . потрясающе.

This is a brutal, challenging game. No forgiveness. However, something is enticing about it. It is an Indie game.
You play a witch hunter, tracking down various demons, zombies, and a central monster that has been causing deaths outside the proper and central town. Upgrades are available, but you must search long and hard for money/treasure. Money is scarce in the game, making you choose carefully the vendor items such as silver mullets, etc.
The atmosphere of this game is downright creepy. It appears to be winter as there are no leaves on the trees. You never know what is hidden right around the corner, causing you to react to strange sounds and murky visuals.
There is no music in the game, only creepy sound effects from the various creatures,/
The weapons you have are an old musket rifle, a handgun, and a saber-like sword.
While I don't recommend the game to just anybody, I do recommend it if you like puzzling FPS games that you can play late at night. :-)

this game is a masterclass in doing a lot with a little. Every aspect of play only ever adds to the feel of the environment and its aesthetic. Paired with really fun gunplay/combat, and a gameplay cycle that is fresh with every night it never fails to keep me at the edge of my seat and loving every second of it.
Replaying it every October, 10/10
