I have a love/hate relationship with this game. It’s a very funny concept for a video game, and considering that the genre didn’t really exist at the time of creation, it gets a lot of things right. The map design is varied and often fits thematically, with some fun references I highly doubt they got the licensing for and a complementary visual style. When it’s working properly, it’s a good time.
The problem is when it’s not working properly. The physics jank, which admittedly is quite fun at first, very quickly becomes very tedious; I would even go as far as to say detestable. Every chair in the game will fling you across the map just for bumping into it, and elevators likewise have a fifty-fifty chance of just launching anything on them ten feet in the air. Furthermore, trying to neatly stack crates and barrels in these tiny designated areas while the crates and barrels are constantly moving is one of the most INFURIATING things I’ve ever experienced in my twenty-something years of gaming, and it’s almost impossible to stack barrels more than two high without the physics going absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and just making them all jump around knocking eachother over. Core Sample in particular took me an additional TWO HOURS to complete after I’d finished cleaning because I’d stack three or four rows of boxes only to find that the back row had somehow shifted and was now toppling all the ones in front of it, causing me to start over again. This was the first thing that’s caused me to ragequit a game since I stopped playing Siege almost a decade ago, but of course Alt+F4 doesn’t actually work in this game, so I had to angrily navigate the menu to quit out instead of just hitting a hotkey.
Physics aside, the game also has a plethora of smaller issues; stupid things like not actually being able to jump high enough to get on the scissorlift half the time and the ability to save whenever you want without the ability to load from anywhere but the main menu. The game allows you to incinerate any and every object you can find, including those required for achievement progression, often with no way of respawning them other than cleaning the entire level again from scratch. The devs hardcoded it this way to prevent “cheating”, and this is probably fine in mutiplayer, but as a solo player, some of the maps can take three or four hours to complete, one in particular lasting well over seven. Combine that with a bunch of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ miscellaneous achievements locked behind a rudimentarily assembled story or hidden away in the corners of these massive maps, many of which are buggy and refuse to pop no matter what, and a mechanic that wipes your office if you get fired more than once, and you’ve just created a fifty-hour hell for any completionists out there. There are also various mechanics which go completely unexplained, such as the throw button I didn’t even know existed until I accidentally fat-fingered it eighty hours in, and I like the malfunction mechanic, but I wish it was based on entity count rather than just RNG.
On top of all that, the performance was absolutely abysmal the entire time I was playing. The game never went above 40fps despite my setup being well over the recommended specs, and on the more intricate maps, it would sit under 30fps with intermittent freezing. That said, I did upgrade my GPU halfway through my playthrough which fixed the framerate issue, but it shouldn’t take a 30-series GPU to run this game at 1080p60, and even after the upgrade, I was still getting intermittent framedrops. Thinking about it now, this could potentially be due to the game using an outdated PhysX engine, but I’m not knowledgable enough on the subject to confirm that.
As a closing remark, whoever made the Penumbra level needs to be shot, and anyone who enjoys it should be institutionalised.

Organism transfers via blood which was transferred accidentally via alien lifeforms unearthed in the ice in Sector G. Later in the same day it was noticed that the alien organisms gained matter after being thawed despite being dead, potentially an early indication of cellular organisms active in the dead host's.

Meditative. Sometimes can be relaxing once you wish to turn your brain off. If you aim to have fun with friends - it's also possible, but once you've went through all the maps there kinda isnt anything new to do. Overall great for killing time over the course of couple weeks.

Even though this game is old, I still find this game to be relaxing and fun over time. Yes it is very frustrating at first since I didn't know how to properly complete a level but I learned along the way while watching some tips and tricks online (hats off to William Strife for his guide). I wish there was some shop where we could buy upgrades to our equipment and having the ability to relocate the bin and bucket generator, as well the incinerator. Even with all those, I get to still have fun in some way although it is understandable if some people don't find this game to be comforting and more on stressful instead.

es muy buen juego la verdad. tiene graficos bastantes buenos, pesa poco, y aunque tenga modo speedrun, es un juego realmente hecho para tomarlo con calma, si tu luego quieres retarte a ti mismo para hacerlo en el menor tiempo posible, es cosa tuya, pero yo siento eso, q el jugeo está hecho para tomarlo con calma. a pesar de que tenga workshop, tiene muuuchos mapas oficiales y todos son bastantes variados, unos mas grandes que otros. si quieres relajarte limpiando en un juego en lugar de hacerlo en la vida real, este es tu juego.

Doesn’t bother to give you any tutorial or even basic instructions. It just tosses you in and expects you to figure everything out, so nah… refund.
I’m not asking for some huge, detailed tutorial but at least explain the absolute basics. A little guidance would go a long way. I’m not wasting my time with devs that are too lazy to teach the core loop.

Bob the janitor is a mysterious character that provides a small amount of continuity and narrative underpinning to the Viscera Cleanup Detail universe. The player never directly encounters Bob, but instead learns about him and his activities through notes he leaves behind, often months after the notes had been written. Notes are always written on paper documents rather than electronic documents.
Notes can be found in several levels in Viscera Cleanup Detail, usually hidden in dark or otherwise out-of-view corners. Each note is dated, establishing a timeline of the events they describe, and the texts allow the player to follow Bob's trail as he seeks refuge from the authorities.
There is currently no apparent connection between Bob and the events that have unfolded in any particular level, although from the dates it can be concluded that Bob has passed through to each area approximately six months prior to when the player is sent to clean the level.

This game isn't for everyone, but it's a fun way to waste your time and it's really satisfying when you complete a level. There's tons of easter eggs, details, and parts of the game that are easily missed that show how much love was put into this game. 10/10 would clean again

O jogo tem mais de 10 anos e ainda sim consegue te entreter com mapas variados, uma gameplay que por mais que seja bugada tem um charme único, uma física que é extremamente engraçada e irritante.
È um mar de emoções que vai te deixar preso por horas sem você nem perceber.
Alguns podem dizer que não envelheceu bem mas pessoalmente eu recomendo (principalmente as DLCS, elas são surpreendentemente boas).
